This week we take a break from our Genesis Series as Mike Keeping, a member at Elim Crawley & retired Elim pastor, preaches.
In this part of our origins series, we explore the garden in Eden. After forming the human, Adam, God plants a garden. The prominent references are to two trees and four rivers. Adam is placed in the garden to serve & keep it. But this is more than just being a good garden. But he is not to do this alone. God forms him, women. And they have a priestly role of serving a sacred place that God has planted & from which God's blessing flow.
In the third part of our origins series, Pastor Jamie beings to explore the second of two creation accounts. We see a change of language, how God creates & the order, as this account focuses on the forming of humanity. This passage reveals God as personal & relational. He is hands-on as He forms the man from dust & breathes the breath of life into him. So humanity is unique among the other creation. Made from creation but alive by God's breath. And this historical Adam is the federal head, an archetype, a representative of all humans. What is true of Adam is true of all. All humans are made by God. And all humans are affected by Adam.
In the second part of our origins series Pastor Jamie explores the first of two creation accounts. This creation account focuses on the whole cosmos. That God is the one who creates everything. But Genesis 1 is more than telling us about the worlds material origin. This account is structured in such a way to tell the story of creation as a temple, where heaven & earth are joined, with an image in the midst & in which God rests. And how this relates to Jewish worship, it its week, feasts, temple & aspects of worship.
This week we start a new series in the book of Genesis. Genesis is a book of origins. A book that begins with God, who creates the world, and makes humanity in a good creation world. As we start Pastor Jamie gives an introduction & overview to this series. And he uses a video from The Bible Project, Genesis 1-11, to help us.

In Mark 11 & 12 the temple was a major theme of Jesus prophetic judgements, and the scene of His teaching. As we transition to Chapter 13, Jesus, the Messianic King, Beloved Son of God, who has the authority over all, tells His disciples about the temples destruction, the beginning birth pain. And today Pastor Jamie speaks from Mark 6 on "The Rejection Of Jesus And His Kingdom". Jesus returns home to Nazareth, but the welcome He receives is not warm. Having read what we have, you might think that Jesus popularity, appeal & His message would keep increasing. But Jesus is rejected, his disciples are sent & can be rejected and must know they face trouble like John. And today we will explore what can be a painful reality for us, rejection.
Mark 5:21-43 In this message Rachel Dawson speaks on Jesus authority over the powers of sickness & death. Jesus is called by a father to come to his sick daughter. But Jesus is interrupted on the way by a woman who has been bleeding for 12 years. In this passage we will see Jesus have authority over both sickness & death demonstrating the kingdom of God.
Pastor Jamie teaches from Mark 4:1-34 on the stories of the kingdom. Jesus uses parables to teach about the kingdom, the are like the political cartoons of our day. Setting a scene and telling a story with a point. In this message we will see a number of them about the kingdom. The reason Jesus uses parables. And what they reveal to us about the kingdom.
As part of our Vision Sunday, Pastor Jamie preached from Matthew 25:14-30. Exploring Jesus parable of faithful servant who are entrusted with the gospel and called to serve with there lives until He comes. And that this applies to all disciples of Jesus, in all of our lives.
Jesus has appointed the 12 as the foundation to the restored Israel, the family of God; and now we see to Jesus family and religious scribes come to Him. In this message Pastor Jamie preaches show Jesus is the powerful one who released people from the grip of the strong man and brings them into His family. And the contrast between those who commit the unforgivable sin and those who are true disciples. Mark 3:20-35
Jesus calls His apostles in the same way that God called people in the Old Testament, He summons them to His work. In Genesis God calls Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and Jacob has 12 sons who become the 12 tribes of Israel. Under King Rehoboam, Israel was divided into two kingdoms. The northern kingdom of Israel, which was 10 tribes. And the Southern kingdom of Judah, which was 2 of the original tribes. The Northern Kingdom was exiled to Assyria and never returns. The Southern Kingdom was exiled to Babylon and did return. And so Israel was never the same.
Those who follow Jesus, who are His disciples become part of the family of God, the people of God. That is what it means to be His kingdom. It is to be His people. We are not like a people of God, we are the people or the family of God. And to follow Jesus, to be a disciple is something we become together.
In this message Pastor Jamie continues our series in the gospel of Mark by preaching from Mark 2:18-3:6. Jesus is confronted again by the Pharisees, this time regarding fasting & the sabbath. And in answering Jesus shows both He is the one who has the authority they are to follow bringing a new joy & rest through the kingdom of God. But that we must follow Him to have it.

Jesus is announcing that through Him God's kingdom has come near, and we see that as He forgives people of sin. Forgiveness of sin is central to Jesus mission, why He will die on the cross. And in this message Pastor Jamie unpacks what we learn about forgiveness from this passage.
Mark 1:29-45 God's Kingdom Has Come Near - Healing In this message Pastor Jamie continues our series in the gospel of Mark by preaching from Mark 1:29-45. Jesus has announced that through Him God's kingdom has come near, and we continue to see the evidence of who Jesus is by His authority and that He goes the mission of God brining the kingdom as people are healed & cleansed.
Andrew Fadoju, from Elim Worthing continued our series in Mark as he explores 1:15-28 and Jesus authority over evil. Jesus has come proclaiming that He is bringing the kingdom of God. But what does that mean? It means a defeat for evil. It means a deliverance from evil. It means liberation. And Jesus demonstrates He has authority over evil because He is Messiah & Son of God.
Today we begin a new series in Mark's gospel. Mark starts with John the Baptist's preaching and three Old Testament quotes that he merges together to reveal exactly what Jesus has come to do, He is brining about the long-promised mission of God in the world. This is the Good News of Jesus Christ, the Son of God and Pastor Jamie begins to explore what it means for us to follow Him.
At the end our week of prayer & fasting, Pastor Jamie shares a message from 2 Corinthians 13:11 titled become mature. This is the goal of every parent. To raise their child to maturity so that they can live as adult with all the skills they need to flourish, be responsible and be successful in life. And that is Pauls goal for believers. That we grow up to be formed, full-grown, faithful, fruitful, followers of Jesus.
Today we begin our week of prayer & fasting. And as we start Pastor Jamie will be speaking on a call to prayer, as we reflect on our status as a royal priesthood who are engaged in a spiritual battle with evil in the world. And as we start we will start with a prayer of dedication together.

CAP Sunday - the Promise of freedom and Hope in Jesus This week we host our annual CAP Sunday, and our Debt Centre Manager Rachel Dawson will be speaking from Luke 14 as Jesus teaches using a parable of a large banquet for the poor, crippled, lame and blind.
Samuel Ofosu-Ameyaw concludes our 'This Is Us' series preaching on serving. Service is part of our worship. And today Samuel will explore the reality that God created us to live lives of service. Jesus laid aside His glory to take on the role of servant. And we are called to be living sacrifices that honour God in our lives by serving others as He intended.
Pastor Jamie continues our 'This Is Us' series preaching on giving. Our giving time is one of the shorter moments when we gather together but that doesn't mean it is any less important. It is an act of worship to God, support & faith. And so, we will move through a number of scriptures today on theme of giving, to help us understand why we do what we do with giving.

And the result Paul says is they will be severed, alienated from Christ & fall from grace. And yet, Paul is persuaded this will not happen. And that they will turn again & live in the freedom that is theirs. And this freedom is marked by loving your neighbour as yourself.
We continue our 'No Other Gospel' series in Galatians this morning as Pastor Jamie preaches from chapter 4 on the theme of the gospel freedom. The Galatians have been set free through Christ. But they are turning back to enslavement to the law. Paul appeals to them to not be seduced by the false promise of a false gospel. And appeals using a strange illustration to show that they are already free in Christ. And together we will explore what it means us for who have been set free by Jesus.
We return to our Galatians series this morning as Brendan preaches from chapter 4 on the theme of the gospel & adoption. Jesus' work brings us into the family of God through adoption. The experience of Spirit baptism affirms this in our experience. And Paul wants the church to be affirmed in this reality of sonship.
Ian encourages us from Habakkuk 3 not to give up even when we feel discouraged because God is in control.

The apostle Paul in his defence of the gospel & his apostolic ministry speaks about the origin of the gospel from Jesus, & how Jesus called Him. The same gospel that God called the Galatians with. Paul's point is, it is God who is working in their lives through the gospel, so don't turn from Him.
This morning Pastor Jamie brings the second message in our Galatians series. Paul gets straight to his point that they are in real danger, because they have accepted another gospel. In turning from the gospel, they turn from God. And Paul gives a stark warning of the danger they are in.

In writing this letter Paul is seeking to defend the gospel against both straightforward false gospels, and the more subtle changes that would create another gospel. In defending the gospel he also calls the church to live rooted in the gospel. It is the gospel that shapes our lives & the choices we make.

And within this letter we find his instruction about how we minister to those who are sick. And we will explore anointing with oil & the prayer of faith particularly.

Acts 14 Going Through Many Hardships The focus for Paul & Barnabas is preaching good news & making disciples. What we find in this chapter is a repeated pattern of enduring trouble as they preach the good news of Jesus, some people stir up others against them, meaning they are driven out from several towns. They later return to these towns to strengthen the disciples by encouraging them and that we go through many hardships to enter the kingdom of God.
Pastor Jamie continues our month vision messages on what we are called to be as a New Testament people of Jesus by exploring being Spirit filled. Jesus, though God was filled with the Holy Spirit and the church called to continue His ministry needs the same filling as we seek to glorify Jesus & see lives transformed through His good news.

He also makes it clear that Implicitly, the apostles (Paul & Barnabas) did not leave Antioch just because of the persecution, but because they had done what they came to do. Jesus said of Himself “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” That He would give His life as an exchange so that we could be set free. In this message Pastor Jamie explain how Jesus became our ransom and how His death & resurrection gives us glorious new life.
Luke moves back to the Antioch church in Acts showing how God stirred the church to continue the mission.But what we see in Antioch is not different to Jerusalem. The church is replicating what happens in Jerusalem. They have gifted leaders, they minister to God, they are a prophetic community and they send people on mission replicating from themselves to others. Pastor Jamie continues our series by exploring why these are vital components of local church that are replicated.
"On the first Sunday of the month we are exploring a different aspect of our 'The church I see' statement of what it means to be a New testament church of Jesus. Today we are exploring being Bible Centred. The Bible is central to Christianity, but why? Today we are exploring the Bible contains our faith as delivered to the church, being inspired by God and therefore having authority in our lives. On the basis of that reality how does the Bible shape & transform us."
In this message Pastor Jamie reminds us that when we face hardship lets us be a people who fervently pray with all that we have believing that God answers our prayers supernaturally. He further reminds us to recognise that our God is Lord over and above any earthly ruler or situation.
Following on from the first Gentile believers in Acts 10, we find that Peter then has to defend the work of God among the Gentiles, which sets up the scene for Luke's next account of the first Gentile church. These are believers with no Jewish background so what will a Gentile church look like. Will it be similar or different? In this message Pastor Jamie explore what it means to be gathered in Jesus name and how Barnabas & Saul seek to shape these new gentile believers as the people of Jesus.
In our previous message on Acts 10 we explore how God dealt with Peter's prejudice that would hinder the gospel advancing. In this message we follow that up and see that when the same gospel is preached to Gentiles God saves and God welcomes the Gentiles in to His people. There are two important signs of this the baptism with the Holy Spirit & water baptism. Pastor Jamie explores these important signs.

Early in Acts 8 we find that Philip has great success in Samaria. The church is becoming an international movement spreading out from Jerusalem. Acts 8 & 9 now focuses on some conversion accounts; in these we find the expected & normal Christian experience regardless of culture. In this message Pastor Jamie explores the normal Christian experience of believe, obey, receive the Spirit & continue.

And not just grow but as Philip preaches in Samaria there is great joy in that city. At the beginning of this sermon, Mike illustrates Paul's Temple metaphor, which has been mentioned in previous weeks. Then, following on from the signs, wonders and healing emphasis of Acts 5:12-16 from the previous sermon, this week we see the way the Holy Spirit answered the prayer of Acts 4 to enable the Apostles and Stephen to be bold as they witnessed to the Gospel and suffered persecution, from Acts 5, 6 and 7. Mike concludes by also noting that all of these witnesses were not just living for now, but had their vision focused on their reward in the age to come.
Moving on from the death of Ananias and Sapphira, Luke records that signs and wonders were regularly done by the hands of the apostles. A few verses later we read who they brought many sick and with unclean spirit. In this message Pastor Jamie encourages us to pray for signs and wonders as the early church did and explores healing in the New Testament.
Acts 4 ends with another summary of community life in the early church with more details about their shared life of supporting one another which is motivated by love/ Jesus had given a new command to love one another. Luke goes on and gives a positive and negative example of this with Barnabas, Ananias and Sapphira.

As we move from the historical to the prophetic part of Daniel, it can seem to get confusing and more like a mathematical problem to solve. In today's message, Pastor Jamie seeks to explore what God is speaking about the future, how Daniel 9 is pointing to Jesus and His ultimate jubilee that is yet to come.

The account of Daniels punishment in the lions den is well know. On Missions Sunday David teaches on what Jesus wants to say to the church about missions exploring that Jesus wants His church to confront our mindset, examine our motives and adapt our methods in missions.
After a number of year in exile the pressure suddenly increases for the Jews to assimilate into Babylonian culture. To worship their gods and accept there ways and that pressure comes with an increased threat if they don't. Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego refuse and are cast into a furnace. In this message Pastor Jamie explores how we can have courage in the fire as our culture increasingly places Christians under pressure to assimilate and accept a different narrative.
King Nebuchadnezzar has a dream that keeps him awake at night. In seek an answer to what this means God speaks to this King, his people and the people of God to remind them that He is over all human history and one day He will set up His kingdom of salvation & glory which will never be destroyed.
