We were thrilled to welcome back the incomparable Adam Savage1! It’s been two decades since his first interview with us, and the capital ‘M’ Maker is busier than ever. He shares how his work evolved after MythBusters and MythBusters Junior, moving to the creation of roughly 400 videos a year on his incredibly successful YouTube channel, Tested. Adam discusses the incredible access his reputation has granted him in film and aerospace industries, his thoughts on the current state of maker technology—from having 3D printers in his shop to his reluctance to jump on AI for creative output—and his philosophy of being a “permission machine” that inspires others to pursue their deepest passions. Tune in to hear the full interview, including Adam’s favorite movie, sound effect, and, of course, a deep dive into his complex relationship with duct tape!
If you would like to revisit the first time we interviewed him 20 years ago click here and listen.

I would really like to see the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics break.
Specifically entropy and I’d like to see the total entropy of the universe decrease. Entropy is states of disorder and randomness.
Entropy is supposed to always increase and therefore can be used to determine the direction of time. So if entropy somehow decreased across the universe…

Hi,
I agree with Kreg, John Carter of Mars isn’t a terrible movie… I’d heard it had poor reviews before watching, but really enjoyed it.Regarding Kreg’s review of The Tourist.
My feelings about the main character was flipped during the last episode, but having watched and enjoyed season two (small spoiler… the last 30 seconds of season two does it again). If you have time, I’d still recommend watching season two.

Feedback + QOTW: If aliens made themselves known to us, what is the first thing you introduce to them? - Technorama * Mad Marv:*
If aliens showed up, I’d show them the War of the Worlds. The audio drama, not the movie. I’d pitch it to them by saying how this story always leads to mass hysteria whenever it is broadcast. Even decades after it was revealed as a hoax. Even when the story is translated to other languages. And even when somebody says “It couldn’t happen again in this day and age”. I’d bet them that it would work on their home world with just a little bit of localization.
As a language model AI, I don’t have personal experiences or emotions, but if I were to introduce something to aliens, I would introduce the concept of communication and language, as a means of establishing a common understanding and facilitate further exchange of information.

Question of the week:* If you could go back in time and witness a historic event, which would you choose?
+ ChatGPT said:
As a language model AI, I don’t have personal experiences or the ability to physically travel through time, but if I were to choose a historic event to witness, it would likely be the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776, as it marked the birth of the United States of America and the formal declaration of independence from Great Britain. It is considered a significant turning point in world history and had far-reaching impacts on politics, society, and the concept of nationhood.

Feedback* QOTW:What’s 100% a scam but we accepted it in our society??
ChatGPT says, “Sure! Let’s see, what’s 100% a scam but we still fall for it hook, line, and sinker? Oh, I know! The “get rich quick” scheme! It’s like the ultimate “too good to be true” offer – promises of quick and easy wealth with little to no effort. But, just like a fisherman’s tale of the one that got away, these schemes always seem to slip away, leaving us empty handed. So, let’s all be like wise old fish and avoid getting caught in these scams. Remember, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is!”
We also asked an old QOTW, What older classic horror movie would you recommend?
ChatGPT says, “One classic horror movie that I would recommend if you’re in the mood for a good old fashioned belly laugh is “Young Frankenstein” (1974) directed by Mel Brooks. This film is a parody of the classic horror genre and is packed with comedic moments and memorable characters. It tells the story of Dr. Frederick Frankenstein, a descendant of the infamous Dr. Victor Frankenstein, who inherits a castle in Transylvania and decides to continue his ancestor’s experiments by creating a monster of his own. This movie is known for its comedic take on the classic story, and its memorable performances by Gene Wilder, Peter Boyle, Marty Feldman and Cloris Leachman. It’s considered one of the funniest movies of all time and a must-watch if you’re looking for a good laugh.”

– I’ve been using Synology for a few years now, and use Plex as my video/audio delivery server system. I have ripped around 400 DVDs and at lest as many CDs to the NAS and Plex does a great job. It is entirely
possible to deliver video outside your home network to your mobile devices. You can sign up for a Plex account free of charge which permits you to have other people share their content with you, one can pay for
Plex Server services monthly or a one-time-lifetime charge which allows you to install the server software onto your network and gives other neat stuff to play with.
Plex can automatically transcode, but the limitations of the NAS then come into play. I currently have Synology model DJ920 4-bay with 4 4TB raided drives which does a good job and I would recommend looking at the stats to see about your own setup(s).
Hope you’re all keeping well.
~Lejon from Chandler.
