Andrew and Casey are back to discuss Purdue's 2021-22 season one player at a time. Their first review looks at the senior big man who started his career playing as a key bench contributor on an elite eight team, and finished as an All-American coming off the bench on a team that lost in heart breaking fashion in the Sweet Sixteen seed to a #15 seed. Andrew and Casey were both in attendance to see first hand, the devastation of the peacocks. Purdue's loss was a side of history neither would like to share in ever again, but alas, teh show must go on. They break down what it meant for the team, who is to blame, and how it came about. A loss like this somehow confuddles the mind and makes the most sense. They've come to a conclusion by the end - losing is hard and they're going to need a whole episode to answer the next question. Andrew and Casey got about an hour and they still hadn't worked off the disappointment from Purdue's loss to Iowa in the Big Ten Tournament Championship. Purdue's turnovers and shooting woes continue and they give up another game. But the past is the past, and Purdue's future looks pretty difficult. They get their seed and bracket and neither Andrew or Casey are very thrilled about the road to the Final Four that won't go through Indianapolis or Chicago as hoped. Andrew and Casey are worn down. Worn down by the B10. Its rough and tough exterior is matched only by its atrocious officiating and inconsistent game play. It's a long season, a long long season, but here Purdue is, with a double-bye again, beating the Hoosiers, and awaiting a final March Madness for a senior class that went all the way to the Elite Eight. Andrew is down and out, banked into sadness, but Casey has a couple big points to cheer him up. They go at the Badgers game and what it means and what it meant and how it's going to play out going forward. There was obviously some bad, but also a big silver lining with how a couple of Boilers played and how one defended. But the boys and Boilers have to move onto the bitter rivals, the NIT bound Hoosiers, and there's plenty of anti-hoosier talk to get you through and feeling better. Avengers assemble! Andrew and Casey get to dive into the Purdue discourse after a loss. It's their favorite place. Purdue had another disappointing loss on the final possession. They help try to put it in perspective, measure it against the rest of the season, and then scream about the absurdities being expressed in the sports world. Then they get onto to getting on with a preview for Wisconsin. A road game. In Madison. For the Big Ten Title. It's the rematch of Jonny Davis and Jaden Ivey, and there's a lot of other talk to be had, but it probably comes down to which star guard will be better. Learn more about your ad choices. Andrew and Casey get a first part of the podcast to themselves where they talk about sports masters acronyms and describe the IU ethos. They also have a game time for the final game of the season, and discuss best coasts and times to watch games. Then they get to icky izzo and his spartans bunch. Casey isn't impressed and both of them think spartans are low on the morality rankings. Andrew and Casey don't have to preview you an opponent on Sunday night because Purdue gets the week of till Saturday. So they spend the first part of the podcast talking all about the Coach Juwan Howard incident with Michigan and Wisconsin. They have some opinions. But then they get down to it. Who says sequels can't be better than the original? Just like Toy Story, the second Purdue vs Rutgers game was an absolute visual delight. Big Ivey dunks are back and the Boilers seem to have fresh legs again just in time for the final stretch. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
Andrew and Casey reminisce over the relative peace Purdue has experienced since the horror of Rutgers basketball started their slaying against a #1 ranked Purdue squad. Since then, Purdue has remained a top five team and Rutgers has remained a horror movie villain. They also talk about Purdue's road win against Northwestern. Learn more about your ad choices. Andrew nearly got kicked out of a Michigan game, so this one is personal. The boys discuss Purdue's big win against Illinois, and the impressive cache of bench players stepping up into big roles. But now Purdue gets their third game in six days, a rematch against a Michigan team that took Purdue to the wire at Mackey. They preview that game and then talk about Maryland as much as they're contractually obligated. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

There's a show down with Michigan on Saturday and we break it down for you. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

Andrew and Casey do their best to not mention McCaffrey so they don't have to spend ten minutes making fun of them. They also get out their brushes and paint a Big Ten standings picture. Purdue still has hope, but they can't afford any more L's. Pressing questions: the press, but also how is Newman going to respond? Who starts? Is it time to make a point guard change? Will Jaden Ivey miss another game? Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

Why they'll keep sucking, and all the things that have happened during that sucking. They also discuss the beautiful nostalgia of a Cactus cup. As we continue our quarantine, some people want football back; some people want baseball back. So why not talk about a football game that went in only one direction in Wrigley Field (and no, we're not talking about a Hazell coached team when it comes to one-way football). Travis and Paul talk about the return of football to the Friendly Confines in 2010 when Northwestern hosted their in-state rival, Illinois. However, it had been a few decades since the last time a football game was held in Wrigley, and it turns out it could no longer host a football field with sufficient margins behind the end zones. Of course, since no one realized this until the week of the game, some special rules had to be introduced for this game. Paul and Travis talk about these weird quirks in a weird football game in today's podcast. We hope you listen in. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

Given that Purdue has the weekend off, we decided to upload an episode of the Let's Get Weird, Sports Podcast, which we usually feature during the offseason as well as any breaks in Purdue's schedule to help fill in some gaps in coverage. Today, Travis and Paul talk about the weird stuff Paul experienced while covering the 2020 NBA All-Star Game in Chicago (which will be in Indy next year). But be warned: there's not much basketball coverage and more of the forced interactions Paul had with C and D-list celebrities that weekend, as well as the general complaints from middle age white men about Instagram influencers. Y'all have been warned. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
Purdue Basketball this season has been a roller coaster, and this weekend's game at Northwestern summed up the season quite well. After struggling all season away from Mackey, and in the first 38-ish minutes in Evanston, Purdue pulled out a win at Northwestern, giving them their first conference road win of the season (yeah we know, it was at Northwestern). Travis and Juan break down that game and talk about what this means going forward, and if Purdue can get into the Big Dance in March. Learn more about your ad choices. Purdue Football is over, it's the middle of the finals break for Purdue Basketball, and the early signing period for football doesn't start for another week. So why not take this time to step away from Purdue for a little bit and talk about the weird stories of the sports world. The Let's Get Weird, Sports Podcast is back for "Season 2" (we never really had seasons but Travis and Paul use it anyways), and today they talk about the former Ohio State and Baltimore/Indianapolis Colts quarterback, Art Schlichter. This podcast mainly focuses on his post football life, which involved gambling additions that spiraled into his arrest in 2011. We hope you listen in and enjoy the podcast during the Purdue sports break. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
2019 was a rough season for Purdue Football filled with injuries, close losses, heart breaks and broken bones. It was so close to ending on a sweet note, but alas That School In Bloomington took our hopes and our bucket. With the season now over, we look at what happened and what to look forward to in 2020. After a hiatus due to injuries...I mean travel...we're back with the Hammerin' Ales football podcast after a tough loss at Our Most Hated Rivals: Iowa. While it was tough, Juan and Travis talk about some of the frustrations around the Iowa game, but also managing our expectations with an up and coming young Purdue team given all the injuries this year. Paul Banks of TheSportsBank.net joins us to talk about the upcoming game with Illinois. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

'Twas the day before football, when all through the house , not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse;... Oh hey there. Welcome to a new episode of the Let's Get Weird, Sports Podcast! Given that football starts tomorrow, we figured it was time to wrap up our offseason podcast with a little (weird) football talk and talk about Cubs and baseball legend, Hack Wilson, who to this day still holds the record for the most RBIs in a season. 23 years ago today, the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta kicked off, and they were...weird (hey, we're just living up to the name of our podcast). From constant product placements, single-use stadiums, and events being held by carvings of losers and racists from the Civil War. Oh, and did we mention the weird mascot, Izzy? Some of these may seem normal now, but the Atlanta Olympics started a new trend for the Olympic Games, with some of those starting to be scaled back. We hope you listen in on this weird podcast, as we try to fill in the doldrums of summer. Our new intro and outro music (just for LGWS pods) is courtesy of APM Music. With the Fourth of July this week and being in the thick of the MLB season, Travis and Paul reflect on baseball in the late-1800s, and some of the perils some players went through. Specifically, Moses Fleetwood Walker, one of the first black players in the league, and backlash he faced, especially from Chicago White Stockings player, Cap Anson (the White Stockings eventually became the Chicago Cubs). While often we discuss Jackie Robinson breaking the color barrier, it was the presence of players like Fleetwood that led to the ban than Robinson eventually lifted. We decided to record a quick episode of the H&R Podcast as we react to Carsen being drafted by the 76ers (and then traded to the Celtics). The first half is basically just Travis and Juan being silly and waiting for Carsen to be drafted. Given some of the frustrations Purdue fans had last night as they waited, we figured you guys would enjoy some of our pre-selection banter. Afterwards, we react to Carsen's selection, how he ended up in the 2nd round, and whether or not he'll fit at the Celtics. It's a short podcast, so we hope you listen in! With the Elite 8 and B1G Title #24 in the rear view mirror, it's time to look forward to the upcoming 2019-20 season. In today's episode, Juan, Travis, and Kyle talk about some of the new recruits Purdue picked up so far this offseason, as well as a quick look at Purdue's non-conference slate. Additionally, our friend, Paul Banks of TheSportsBank.net, joins us as he reads a chapter from his new book, "No, I Can’t Get You Free Tickets: Lessons Learned From a Life in the Sports Media Industry" where he talks about his first Mackey Arena experience. With the annual Indy 500 coming up this Memorial Day weekend, Travis and Paul take some time to talk about their own experiences with the iconic Indiana race, and the weird stuff they have seen going on. We're in full off-season mode at this point, and this podcast shows that we've hit that peak (though hopefully not too soon). We hope you listen in and also share with us some of your own Indy 500 stories. Perhaps you can make some new ones this weekend as well! Learn more about your ad choices. With the offseason in full swing, we bring back our "Let's Get Weird, Sports" Podcast, a pod where Travis and Paul (and formerly Casey) talk about random sports subjects that interest them in their spare time. Today's LGWS pod actually has a Purdue connection, as Travis and Paul talk about Purdue's first football coach, Albert Berg. What makes this a subject for the LGWS pod? Well, Coach Berg only coached one game at Purdue, their first ever game, which they lost; he also happened to be deaf and struggled at speaking as a result of his deafness. Additionally, we go off on a tangent as Paul reads a section from his new book, "No, I Can’t Get You Free Tickets", as he talks about his encounter with...Bobby Knight. We're sure you'll want to listen in as we entertain you this offseason. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
Now that we're revamping our podcasts, we decided to bring back our already revamped football podcast, Hammerin' Ales, to discuss the Purdue spring game. Travis, Drew, and Juan (well, kinda) discuss the game and incoming recruits for Purdue, what we saw out of most of them, and what we should expect going into the fall. It's a brief episode, but we hope you still listen in. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
We had been planning on doing a separate basketball podcast all season, and we finally had time to do one...just as the season ends with Purdue's crushing overtime loss to #1 Virginia in the Elite 8. It was the last day of the season for Manchester United as they were set for their match with AFC Bournemouth. A huge win, and a Manchester City loss, could propel them to finish in the Top 4 of the Premier League, giving them a place in the Champions League. But a suspicious device was found in Old Trafford, leading to an evacuation and a rare postponement for Man U.
Sure enough, our friend, Paul Banks of the SportsBank.net was actually in attendance. Today’s LGWS podcast is a unique one where Paul gets to share his first hand experience as the stadium was evacuated and the drama that ensued afterwards. It’s going to be a cold few days in the Midwest (or warm if you’re on the west coast like me), so why do you cuddle up next to the fire, add some more marshmallows to your hot chocolate, and listen in to this fascinating story. In the last LGWS episode of 2018, Travis and Paul get their inspiration from The Dollop and talk about the most interesting man in Major League Baseball, The Rube Waddell. This was a story that Travis and Paul worked on before the Thanksgiving Holiday. However, with our travel schedules and #BrohmWatch, the final copy didn’t get published until now. Either way, we hope you enjoy it.
Today’s episode of LGWS is a bit more serious than the previous ones (though I guess the last one did talk about war and the Spanish flu...). Today, Travis and Paul Banks talk about Ryan Leaf’s story from being drafted just after Peyton Manning in the 1998 NFL Draft, to how his NFL career flamed out, to his addiction to pain medications and how he has worked away from his addiction and speaking throughout the country. Earlier in the year, Paul had the chance to interview Leaf, and most of that is discussed in this podcast, so we hope you listen in. Learn more about your ad choices. Well, Saturday sucked.
And then Louisville fired Petrino, and openly said they were going to go after Brohm, so that sucked too.
So let’s talk about about feelings about this weekend on our latest podcast. Don’t worry, this is a safe space. No Louisville fans welcomed here.
In our 10th edition of the podcast, Juan, Travis, and Holmes (a rare sighting) discuss the horrendous game at Minneapolis this weekend, and of course, address the elephant in the room: will Brohm stay or go to Louisville at the end of the season? We also sprinkle in some questions we got from our new Instagram account, as well as discussing Purdue’s upcoming game against Wisconsin. We hope you listen in. Learn more about your ad choices. Not only did Purdue get their third win over a ranked team this season on Saturday, it came against their most hated rivals, the Iowa Hawkeyes. Juan, Travis, and Drew discuss Saturday’s win, as well as what we should expect against Minnesota on Saturday, as Purdue has never won in TCF Bank Stadium. Additionally, now that Purdue is 1 win away from bowl eligibility, we discuss the possible bowl games that Purdue could land in.
Given our schedules, we are a little late on these podcasts, but next week we should return to our normal schedule. We hope you can forgive us and still listen in. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
After a lackluster performance against the Michigan State, Juan and Drew quickly recap what happened and what we should expect as Purdue hosts a tough Iowa team on Saturday. As the World Series kicks off between the Boston Red Sox and the Los Angeles Dodgers, Travis and Paul Banks dive into the famous 1918 World Series match up between the Chicago Cubs and the Boston Red Sox. Oh what a night.
We’re still on a high after Purdue’s beat down of #2 Ohio State on Saturday night. Juan, Travis, and Andrew (the jumbo one) discuss the big win for Purdue and what this means going forward. And of course, we discuss Tyler Trent’s enormous impact on the football team, the Purdue community, and even all of America. After expecting a tougher match up against Illinois on Saturday, Juan, Travis, and Drew discuss Purdue’s big and lopsided win against the Illini as they retie the series for the first time in over a century and keep the Cannon for the 3rd straight year. Additionally, they discuss the elephant in the room that is visiting West Lafayette this weekend: the 2nd ranked Buckeyes.
Can Purdue pull off the upset on Saturday and repeat Purdue Harbor? And does Purdue have a shot at making a bowl game, despite their 0-3 start? Listen in as we discuss this and more! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
Just a warning about this podcast: it’s definitely a bit more on the PG-13 rated side of things. Normally, that doesn’t matter, but I just wanted to warn you in case you decide to listen to this podcast with your kids in your car. Just in case you don’t want to explain what Playboy is and what not.
Now that you have been warned, it’s time for a new edition of the Let’s Get Weird, Sports podcast, with our friend, Paul Banks. In this episode, Travis and Paul discuss the famous 1983 Illinois team that went 9-0 in conference play, and is the last team to beat all Big Ten teams in a single season. Despite their record, and the mediocre record of their opponent, the UCLA Bruins, the Illinois Fighting Illini were destroyed in this game, and was one of the most lopsided Rose Bowl games in history.
How could this be? Well, legend has it that the Illinois team rung in the New Year at Hugh Hefner’s Playboy Mansion. Hugh, being an Illinois grad himself, wasted no time inviting the players to his house for an official visit when they first arrived. But were the Illini invited back for New Years, or is this just a myth?

After Purdue won a winnable game by double digits in Nebraska, Travis, Juan, and Drew recap the game as Purdue heads into the bye week. We also discuss Purdue’s upcoming match against division foe, Illinois, and why they may not be as easy of an opponent as some will think. Additionally, we give a special shout out to Tyler Trent as he continues to battle cancer.

Football is much more fun to discuss after a win. Especially when it’s a win over a ranked team. And a big win at that.
In today’s podcast, Juan, Travis, and Drew discuss Purdue’s win over #23 Boston College on Saturday, as well as looking forward to Purdue’s first road game of the year, as they travel to Lincoln to face a struggling Nebraska team under first year head coach, Scott Frost. Can Purdue turn it around and go into the Ohio State game 3-3? Or was the win on Saturday a fluke?

It's our third edition of the Hammerin' Ales football podcast, and Purdue is now 0-3...yikes.
In today's episode, Travis, Juan, and Drew discuss Purdue's exciting but disappointing loss to Missouri on Saturday night, and if Purdue can salvage their season as a ranked Boston College team comes to West Lafayette next week.

Well, we didn't expect Purdue to be at this point in the season. While the Northwestern game was a toss up, most Purdue fans expected Purdue to beat Eastern Michigan this past Saturday.
But the mighty EMUs had other plans.
Purdue is now 0-2 for the first time since 1996. Will Jeff Brohm turn this around in just his second year in the program? Travis and Juan discuss the losses and how Purdue can start to turn this ship around before it's too late.
