@aghnes_she

AGHNES had a burning desire to establish a proper female house & techno collective in Rome. With her lifetime partner in crime Ameliée they co-found She Made in 2013.

She Made is an ambitious all female party concept and label. They started with a weekly residency at Rashomon Club, Rome, soon the project started growing and turned She Made one of the 10 most prominent events in Italy. They then moved the residency at Goa Club. She Made showcases are being hosted in different clubs between the north and south of Italy and European clubs such as Golden Gate in Berlin and Fabric in London

Having grown up on an eclectic combination of house and techno music she travelled to explore the clubbing and music scene in the rest of Europe and so ending up with quite a mixed spectrum of musical influence.

Her strong love for club culture translates into sets where she picks apart and infuses together all the pieces of this music she likes best.

Micro house, break beats and groovy sounds characterize her style. In 2015 Aghnes moved to London becoming DJ Resident at ‘ We Play the Music We Love’, label and party collective. Since then she got a deeper insight of the London underground scene and started playing in the most popular clubs, to name just a few: Fabric, EGG Lnd, FOLD, The Bridge, Basing House, XOYO, Bloc. And also around Warehouse events hosted by Point, Keep on going, The Sunday afters and more

Stefano is an Italian DJ and producer who is now based in Japan. He’s also co-founder of Equilibrium Lab, along with Luca Fabiani. Stefano is Rubber Band's founder, and he is also label manager for other labels (Ribbon Recordings and Soundpark).

  1. How did you start to DJ and to producing music?

When I was 10 years old my passion for electronic music began and at that time I used every “recordable” format to at my disposal (vinyl, cassette, CD, etc). When I was 14 I bought two old turntables and a little mixer with another guy and we began to learn beat matching. We started playing at friends birthday parties or anywhere we could get some practice in. My technique as a DJ got much better some years later really, after my parents were kind enough to buy me a pair of Technics 1210 and a very good mixer. After that later step, I started to produce music with a friend; after the first release I had the opportunity to start playing in clubs in Italy soon after, and then in the other countries. Over time, I refined my technique producing music and never stopped studying, as it’s a never ending process. I still learn new things every day with each production, especially as technology moves forward so rapidly.

  1. Who is Herodot?

That’s a hard question to answer especially when one has to speak about himself. Herodot is a nickname i got stuck with long before i even knew what electronic music is. Now to answer your question….. Herodot is a gadget freak, tech junkie, dj, producer and label owner…and a lot of other things that really don’t make sense putting in here.

  1. How did you start to spin records?

Well, trying to make a long story short, things started when i was very little but at that time i wasn’t aware of it. For some time i was carried away by my fascination for studios, cables, hardware, mixing, mixers, computers …tech stuff in general. Then one day, all it took was to go out with a couple of friends for the first time to a party…. a party with a dj At that time in romania this was not so common, the whole concept was something i had never seen before. After that party….really one thing led to another, the universe worked it’s magic and now i am answering this question thinking 10 years or more had gone by since my first party with my friends….which in fact are dj-ing also… you know some of them for sure.

  5. 5 artists that inspire you the most.

  6. I'm just a boy whose intentions are good.

  7. Just randomly, really. I've always wanted to be involved with music one way or another and DJing was a quick remedy. I thought it was much easier to play records than to learn an instrument. I was wrong.
  8. Pornography by The Cure Deep Purple's live in Japan Led Zeppelin 4, TXC - I polis ealo The Fibonaccis - Civilizations and its discotheques.
  9. Amoeba, San Francisco Spacehall, Berlin Habeat, Athens Techno Import, Paris Discos paradiso, Barcelona
  10. Zip Ricardo Villalobos Shepard Fairey Reggie Watts Brian Eno

He looks bored, yet restless, with a blank face, yet searching eyes. Confident solely in controversy, Anestie only stands still in the utmost moments of insanity, as if for emphasis. Born in Athens, Greece, on a rainy day * in the long forgotten 80's, Anestie to his mom, always had an innate and almost unbearable itch for music. At the age of nine, his dad sponsored the purchase of his first vinyl, Deep Purple's Made in Japan. "Growing up with 70's and 80's rock sparked a lifestyle of not caring much," he admits, but it also made him quickly realize his love for music. Unable to play any instruments, DJing became the quick remedy he was searching for. From then on, while gigging with the likes of Rhadoo, Petre Inspirescu, Kassem Mosse, Cabanne and everybody in between and live appearances in the UK, Japan, Mexico, USA, France , a guest mix for Nic Fanciulli's Worldwide Sounds prestigious radio show, Anestie started showing his abilities to the world.

DJ and producer Andrea Ferlin is one of the founders of SLEEP IS COMMERCIAL. It was in 2008 that Andrea, alongside Francesco Assenza, brought the label to life with the release of tracks as duo Dunkle Dummies and with the launch of the now legendary SLEEP IS COMMERCIAL nights.

While moving to Berlin and establishing SLEEP IS COMMERCIAL represent the latest chapter in Andreas decade long career, his impressive and extensive background in electronic music have made him a familiar name on the international club circuit. Equally as prolific in the studio as playing live, in between sharing line ups with techno legends like Richie Hawtin and Marco Carola or regular guest appearances at Circoloca @DC-10 in Ibiza, Andrea found time to craft his production skills and has released his own material since 2006 on groundbreaking labels Freak n'Chic, Mindshake and Leftroom.

These days, with SLEEP IS COMMERCIAL and Berlin, Andrea is part of two unique communities, one specific and the other general, both dedicated to moving electronic music ever forward. And in Berlin Andrea has really discovered and shaped his sound, producing a signature apparent in all his tracks and performances, something seeming to sway effortlessly between the beat machine and the snake charmer.

Look for patterns within the over ten year career of Andrea, a strong theme emerges in his commitment to artistic collaboration. Indeed, Andrea's earliest successes were in partnership with Dusty Kid between 2002 and 2006. Together, as Duoteque, they released 5 records for the German label Boxer Sport and appeared on compilations from Minus, Systematic and Crosstown Rebels.

More accolades followed for his next partnership with Matteo Spedicati. The 2007 and 2008 working with Matteo as “Clarissa Haze Duo” Andrea found an astonishingly different angle to create electronic tracks from inside his own music. Today, in many ways SLEEP IS COMMERCIAL offers Andrea the oppertunity to transform his professional attitude towards artistic collaboration into a way of life.

Whether in the studio, party, or living room he shares the decks with friends, DJs, newcomers whom inspire him towards constant new projects and experiments. In 2010 he joined forces with Daniele Papini to release the “Club Mio” EP, and teamed up with new talent, Sardinian DJ Alessio Mereu releasing 3 acclaimed EPs on SLEEP IS COMMERCIAL as DUM.

2011 saw the DUM tour travel across Europe showcasing their music flavor as well as the return of some past collaborations; Dunkle Dummies and Clarissa Hazel Duo. To top off this year Andrea released his new solo project, Sunny Charles, on SLEEP IS COMMERCIAL.

In 2013, toghether with his friend Donald Mezmercic he started a new project called Fedon, they released the first vinyl called Modern Mantras, and then after couple of months they released the album on CD called Modern Mantras as well.

In 2014 with the remix of Ion Ludwig, Andrea released his latest EP called Almost. A new album, singles and some remixes will be coming during the year.

OSCAR ROCHA is a prime example of an artist working within the shifting spaces, faces and cultures of the underground electronic music scene. Rocha's eclectic mix of high-energy yet beautiful melodies create funky, dance-inspiring environments to move anybody.

From a young age, Rocha immersed himself in music; he gained experience playing in Indie and Punk Rock bands and it was during this time that he further developed his interest and exploration into the realms of composition and experimental instrumentation. Rocha's curiosity with new sounds and possibilities allowed him to explore the diverse avenues of electronic music and he hasn't looked back since.

Rocha is not one to be categorized, although mainly influenced by house, experimental music and techno, his sets go a lot of different places. Without abandoning his roots, his productions are reflections of what happens on the dancefloor; the subtle moments of the the calm before the storm or the intense climax of a beat dropping only to dive into more melodic, drone status. His constantly evolving sounds are a stunning result of his keen interest in music, new and old, as well as the growing collaborations he continues to foster. To experience Oscar Rocha on the decks is like having an intimate one-on-one conversation with the artist and his knowledge about up and coming music. He pays particular attention to the quality of sound, but even more than that, the experience. Oscar Rocha's sets are not about ego or genre style, but about having an all-around good time.

For MASSIMILIANO TOSCANO (Ma:to), doing music could be similar to a religion. It’s not has to be a hobby, or a simple job, but you have to commit yourself, deep into music. No wonder that his perception and radical conception about being a musician was influenced by the classical and intense formation he received since he was eight years-old. Indeed, at this age, he started to learn and play violin in the local Academy of his small town in South Italy. At 12, he gets into the Conservatory and starts to play in an orchestra. He remembers now how ambivalent could be the feelings you could have over there, when you are only a kid, and dedicated your life to music but enjoying so much to play and practice violin, and, in the meantime discover and improve electronic music thanks to well-informed friends' group and local record shop.

Time to stop classical studies for a while, Massimiliano move to Rome, start studying Sound Design, to keep into this musical way of life and graduating with the great outcome of 100/100 cum laude. But Rome is a bit too conservative, even if people want to make it a creative city and so, he moved to Berlin in the summer of 2012. This city offers you this special atmosphere, and this special people. You don't need to search to find out confident, relaxed and interesting ambients here. Currently, he's working in a Studio specialized in media productions and working out on his music. Work is his key word. He's trying to be more selective, more mature in his approach on the electronic music also. He developed a real interest for old stuff, from the 50's or the 60's and the dry sound of Berlin, this dynamic place that give you some reminiscences of your childhood, the same feeling as in the old good Kindergarten. Give you the capacity to be a child, again.

And isn't this really important, for someone who played violin all his childhood, to have back this little part of freedom ?

It is as gabber and ambient trip-hop producer that Samuel Severino makes his first steps in electronic music (1996). Born Italian, he grows up in Switzerland. He makes for himself a nice reputation there, evolving towards break core and drum’n’bass. He’s not then only a producer anymore but also a Dj, under the name of Dj Assuti, inside the collective “Rhythms of Fury”. He mixes side by side with Dj Die, Krust, Aphrodite, Bad Company...and this in the biggest rooms of Switzerland and Italy. He obtains a residence at the Loft in Lausanne, plays occasionally for the Swiss radio station “Couleur 3”. From 1998, his eclectic side leads him to techno, electro and minimal as well. In 2004, he leaves Switzerland and settles in Berlin to carry on with his studies in musicotherapy. For two years, he puts his passion for music aside, he finally comes back to it, turning himself to minimal techno, deep house and changes into “Luca Torre”. The bookings follow one another and bring him everywhere in Europe, From the club « La Ruche » in Lausanne, where he contributes to organize some parties, to the Sonar festival in Barcelona, passing through the lively nights of Bologna. He obtains residences in some of the most prestigious clubs of the german capital. At the cutting edge of Berlin’s sound, Luca Torre fiddles with sounds and machines since he’s 13. Some people portray him as a fanatic, an architect of new sonorous constructions with deep house and techno minimal shades. End of 2008, he creates with his friend and artist Liviu Groza the duo « Augustine » with their title « Cucuphe » present on the second EP of « La Ruche recordings« . He signs on other labels like Recycle, Gimmick, Villa magica or Caduceus. His carrier is currently boosted by his talent, his passion and the recognition of the biggest names of techno who take part in his projects. A true artist who keeps some beautiful surprises in reserve for us.
