Examining Ephesians 4, Pastor Lance talks about the functions and roles within the body of Christ - how God connects and utilizes believers. Examining Revelation 11:3-14, we see the 'Two Witnesses' appear on the scene during the Tribulation. Pastor Lance talks about who these men could possibly be, while explaining what it means to be a witness. As we live our lives here on earth, are we also acting as God's witnesses, while we still can?
When the 5th trumpet is blown, we see the start of 3 "woes" during the Tribulation. Pastor Lance goes back to when Satan fell from heaven, and how his pride caused him to fall hard...all the way until the end. There may be times when the enemy thinks he is winning, but God has the final word!

Where fear of man brings a snare, reverencing God is necessary for true worship to occur. The beginning of a heart of murder is anger, the start and driving force of adultery is lust, and God takes these issues very seriously. Chad explains that none of us can meet the expectations of the law, but for the help of the Holy Spirit, by the grace of Jesus Christ!
Francel Esquivel introduces the Sermon on the Mount, out of Matthew 5:13-20. He shared the importance / many purposes of salt: it’s used to add flavor, it’s a healing agent, it can preserve, and it promotes thirst! That brings us to light, and light isn’t something that can be hoarded. If you have light in your life, everyone will be exposed to it.

Acts 1:8-9 declares the last words of Jesus, before He ascended back into heaven, leaving us with the promise of the Holy Spirit as well as a commission to share the Gospel. Pastor Lance differentiates how the Holy Spirit can be with us, in us, and upon us. He reminds us that this world is not where we belong, but that something about this world pulls on us, and makes us comfortable with thinking of it as our home. Pastor Lance reminds us that if we allow God's agenda to shape our life, we will experience true freedom. He encourages believers to focus on reality, on the Kingdom, rather than focusing on that which is passing away. While the Holy Spirit must fight for our attention, we have allowed ourselves to become distracted. Only when we are filled with the Holy Spirit's dynamite power can we hope to effect change in this dying world and draw others into right relationship with the Lord. God's people are called to make sacrifices, and throughout history, they have. Now, it's our turn, Pastor Lance asserts. The Holy Spirit wants to use humble, surrendered, teachable lives, but we must invite His presence for that to occur. Our lives, as Christians, must display the inner reality of Christ...and of what we are saying about Him to others. Hypocrisy will not win others to Jesus, but passion, truth, conviction, and a life that looks more like Jesus every day. The Gospel is a simple message, but the demand upon its messengers could cost them their lives. Are we willing to live in that reality, and still preach and live the Word? For over 2,000 years, Christians refused to sit back in the comfort of their homes when death came knocking, when persecution loomed...they saw their mission through to the end. Will we be the same?
Opening up Acts 1, Pastor Lance picks up the thread of conversation about Jesus' ministry, continued by the Holy Spirit through His church. He mentions that Jesus had chosen, prepared, and sent out the disciples with the purpose of furthering His message, ministry, and discipling after He ascended. Just as they had work to do in their day and city, so too do we, as the church. We cannot (as they could not) do anything for God on our own strength - we need the Helper that Jesus promised us, His Holy Spirit. Pastor Lance speaks of this third Person of the Godhead, noting that He is personal and powerful. He prays for us, speaks to us, guides and teaches us, comforts us, and empowers us to do the work of the Lord. If we are to effectively serve God, we must know His Holy Spirit personally and intimately. He is intelligent, has a will, He gives us gifts with purpose in mind, He has emotion, He desires fellowship with us, directs us, He is personal, and He propels us to continue growing His church throughout the world. Do you know what it's like to be guided by the Holy Spirit? What part(s) of your life does He occupy and lead? Do you recognize His presence? He may be working, but we will miss Him if we're distracted and focused on the inconsequential instead of the eternal.

Last night Pastor Lance invited a group of awesome guys, that are a part of our church body to share alongside him. Some may label this as a "Covid Panel", and yes all these men have gone through that and come out on the other side, but it was more! They focused on the spiritual insights they gleaned through the process of having this virus. In a time when fear is running rampant, they reminded us that it is most important to keep our eyes on the Lord. A common point each of the guys made, was about the body of Christ, and how you all came together to take care of them and their families when they were in need. Definitely a great listen.
Pastor Rick Barnett shares out of Colossians 2:4-8, talking about how believers need to be careful of what we're consuming these days. He asserts that the enemy will use various tactics, from appealing to our intellect/pride to attacking our emotions. It's so important to protect our eyes, minds, and hearts, yielding them to the Lord, but also using wisdom in what we allow to influence us. He reminds us that the enemy isn't passive, but actively seeking to steal, kill, and destroy the people of God. Pastor Rick stresses the importance of spending time in prayer and in the Word of God in order to combat the deception of the devil. Who's voice are we listening to? What is leading and influencing us, and where is it taking us? While Satan wants to isolate and disrupt our unity with Christ and the church, the best way to fight this is to abide in Jesus, and fellowship with other believers. If our eyes are on other things (current events, social media, etc.), then they're not on the Lord. There are no shortcuts to spiritual maturity, it's a daily and intentional walk with God. "The goal of deception is to empty us of eternal things by distracting us with earthly things." Be vigilant! This world is not our home.

Our Christmas Service is always a special time, and that was especially true this year. Pastor Lance shared out of Galatians 4:4-5, focusing how how grateful we should be that God never "cancelled" any part of His Christmas plan! His purpose for taking on flesh and dwelling among mankind propelled Him into action. Because He loved us so much, He stepped down into our world, as a helpless Baby, to live, die, and rise again. Mary and Joseph had signed on to what God wanted to do through them, they were available for this incredible plan. While we do indeed look forward to Christ's return, Pastor Lance reminds us that the Lord is not done with us yet. What does He want to pour out onto us today? How does He want to use us where we're at now? Just as Joseph and Mary were obedient and submitted to this mighty plan of redemption, so too must we obey in order to receive the blessings found in being at the center of His perfect will.
Finishing up our Spiritual Stability series, Pastor Lance closes out Philippians 4 by stressing the faithful service of the Philippian church. Paul saw undeniable evidence that the Holy Spirit was at work in these peoples' lives, over the course of 10 years. This church was faithful to minister to (and provide for) Paul, throughout all of his trials in advancing the Gospel. Pastor Lance points out that where the demands continue to grow, God will continue to supply His strength and resources. We can never out-give the Lord with our time, talents, and treasures. It's never about the gift itself, but about what God can do with a generous heart. He wants to use us to bless others, as is evidenced by the way that the Gospel spread so far as Caesar's own household! Just as the Philippians moved from seeing a need to meeting a need, we too need to be Christians of action, applying the gifts that God has given for the furtherance of His ministry. Do we have humble hearts that are available to Jesus and His work? His people are called to bear fruit and to invest in others...have you invested in the Kingdom of God lately? Don't miss out on what He is doing today!
In Part 5 of our Spiritual Stability series, Pastor Lance hones in on Philippians 4:10-13. Examining the circumstances that Paul faced, Pastor Lance states that the church of Philippi supported and stayed connected with Paul through his missionary journeys and imprisonments. Through it all, they wanted to show their love to him; the resulting overflow of the love that Christ had poured out on their own lives. When we are truly caring for each other like this, spiritual stability is manifested in our lives. Even when they weren't able to provide for his needs, Paul trusted the sovereignty of God to take care of him. Pastor Lance also points out how we have fellowship with God and others when we put our trust in God's Word and allow that to spill over into our life. What the Lord has begun in us, He will complete! This should bring contentment in any and all situations we may be faced with. Rather than depend on self, we find that sufficiency is only found in Jesus. Instead of putting on faith/hope/trust in ourself, in others, in the government, or in society, when we put it in the proper place (in God), we will find true contentment that the world cannot fathom. Pastor Lance calls this an "inside job", which can only be accomplished through the Holy Spirit's work in our life. He will supply the strength to overcome, when we're tapped into Him as the source of our stability.
Continuing through our Spiritual Stability series, Pastor Lance picks up in Philippians 4:8-9. He reiterates the importance of meditating on the things of God; whatever is good, lovely, pure. What we learn from His Word is how we ought to live. We must live out what we learn. The two are inseparable. Pastor Lance reflects on the seriousness of eternity, and how we should focus on living in a way that pleases God. Are you allowing the Holy Spirit to direct your steps each day, or are you following the desires of your flesh? When we walk in opposition to God, the way the world wants us to, there's no telling where we'll end up. In walking closely with the Lord, we make decisions based on what is right, not on what we feel. God has not called us to walk in an empty-headed way, but to walk in a manner worthy of His calling. Right thinking is a result of daily meditation on God's Word, Pastor Lance says, and we must actively pursue that time with Him!
Part 3 of our Spiritual Stability Series examines Philippians 4:8. Pastor Lance talks about wisdom (the proper application of knowledge), how we can and should ask God for it, without doubting that He will give it to us. He points out that how we think affects how we live our lives, and the importance of right thinking, for believers. God cares about our thought life, and desires for us to focus on the truth of His Word, and to throw out that which does not line up with it. Are we teaching others, those around us, to pray, to think on the things of God? To search out truth for themselves? Or are we letting others (media, culture, the world, etc.) determine what we believe? The Lord tells us to consider the birds and the lilies, and the way that He takes care of them...this reminder should cause Christians to turn away from anxiety and to trust in the Heavenly Father. Is your mind fixed on God and the things of God? The battle for our minds/focus has never been fiercer. Are we protecting our minds as we ought to?
Diving into Galatians 6:9-10, Pastor Lance points out the sovereign hand of God in our circumstances. We want to learn what He is teaching us from what's happening around us. As a church, we want to find God's purpose in all of this. Do not lose faith when the world around us is in turmoil. Our time on this earth is short. How have you used your freedom, the freedom that was given to you by Christ? May the Gospel bring the freedom that it's designed to give to us.
Part 2 of Pastor Lance's "Spiritual Stability" series through Philippians 4 kicks off with a reminder to be a calming influence to others. As ambassadors for Christ, we are to live in meekness and gentleness, pointing to Him through our submission to Him. Pastor Lance points out how we must have patience with those around us, and to walk in a worthy manner. He presses the fact that when you spend time with Jesus (in His Word and prayer), others will notice, and the fruit of that will be evident. When Christians live in instability, focused on self and surrounding influences, it goes against our new nature, and we look insane. Living apart from Christ and other Christians will lead to loneliness and turmoil - we need fellowship! Only through spending time in prayer and God's Word can we banish anxiety and its effects on our life. Pastor Lance talks about the physiological effects of worry, anxiety, and isolation, arguing that this can be deadly to a church body. While God commands us not to worry, He doesn't just leave it at that...He tells us to replace worry/anxiety with prayer and thankfulness. When our focus is on the Lord, His presence, and what He has done in and through us, we will have peace beyond our understanding. What do you turn to for peace and security?
Sunday morning's message was part 1 of a 3-part series on Spiritual Stability. Pastor Lance taught out of Philippians 4, and spoke of the importance of setting our mind on eternity while living in a world that is passing away. In a time when relativistic thinking is permeating society, and the country is shifting from biblical morality, believers must stand from on the truth! Love must mark our church and become a stabilizing force in our life. Even when we're under attack, God will advance His kingdom and His Word. Pastor Lance demonstrates how these principles bring stability to the church, from persecution to any other outside influence or compromise. He argues that we must not fix our eyes on any cause but the cause of Christ, or it will divide Christians and set us up for failure in this walk. Joy must also mark the church, regardless of the circumstances. Knowing that God is in control should bring joy and peace to us in these crazy times!
With the recent election, America seems to be more divided than ever. Pastor Lance discusses how, despite any and all circumstances, God is still on the throne. He is still in full control, and no election is going to change that.
With the election coming up, Pastor Lance talks about the importance of using our vote to platform the Lord. He compares and contrasts the kingdom of God and the kingdom of darkness, and explains how believers are to be ambassadors for God while living in our society. We are just pilgrims passing through this world; heaven is our home, ultimately. Knowing our identity in Christ is a good place to start in understanding our identity as American citizens. God must come first in our lives, and then country, not the other way around. Sadly, many American believers have these priorities reversed. Pastor Lance argues that, "We can be Americans best if we are Christians first." In looking at our responsibility to God and country, he states that we must be good stewards with our voting and our values. Integrity matters in all spheres of life, and God is looking to use those who stand for righteousness in a crooked and corrupt generation. Do you live your life in such a way that others can look at it and know what (or Who) you stand for?

Diving into 2 Corinthians 4:1-7, Pastor Lance discusses what it means to “have this treasure in earthen vessels”. While the world measures the church’s significance by external factors, the Lord discerns the heart and He places value on the institution that He created. Pastor Lance shares that where the old covenant fell short (its inability to cleanse us from sin), the new covenant of Jesus is permanent, and gives full access to the Father. He argues that this is the beginning of radical and active ministry. Although the world tries to relegate believers to the sidelines, we’ve never been more needed in our society, as Christianity is under attack. In Christ, we are given new life, and that manifests itself through ministering to the lost and dying world. If the church isn’t faithful to its ministry, how will those lost in darkness come to the light? Just as the Spirit was working and moving 2,000 years ago, He is still working today!
As 2020's election draws near, it's more important than ever for believers to be informed of the issues of our day, and how God would have us use our ballots. Young Kim shares her story and her history of running for office. Following her testimony and encouragement, Pastor Lance and Bob Tyler (from Advocates for Faith & Freedom) discuss the hot topics of politics, pointing to God's Word as the ultimate authority.
If we’re serious about following God, our life will be marked by that. Pastor Lance continues through Hebrews 12, and he outlines the inheritance we have through Jesus Christ. We don't need to be afraid to approach God - He is our Father, and we have access to Him under the new covenant that Jesus gives us through grace. Pastor Lance speaks on how the Lord has liberated us, and is far superior to anything else we could turn to for help. All people, prophets, religions, etc. have limitations, but God does not. The lure of the enemy, the draw to go back to what Jesus has saved us from, is strong, but it's not worth it. Following God is not about rules and regulations, but about a loving relationship with the Son of God. The author of Hebrews urges believers to stand strong in the power of the Lord! God shakes things up to get our attention. Are we okay with the "no" of God? Are we eternally minded in such a way that we're not shaken when our circumstances change?
Finishing up the book of Ecclesiastes, Pastor Lance discusses the importance of living for God while young. As Solomon discusses, the older you get, the harder it is to pursue the Lord. Life lived without God is emptiness and vanity: Solomon begins and concludes the same thing in looking at each aspect of life. Pastor Lance reiterates that life passes by quickly, and youth is gone in an instant. With eternity knocking at the door, can we look back on our life and say that we lived it for the glory of God? Live for God now, seek Him now, before it’s too late. No one is promised tomorrow. We must take God’s truth, allow it to prod us in the correct direction, and hang our life upon it…allowing the Lord to direct our steps. Pastor Lance states that the world is pulling hard at believers now, but we have a Shepherd who lived, died, and resurrected for us so that we could have a right relationship with Him…and He calls each of us by name. When you fear God, you will fear nothing else. Will we embrace His Word and allow it to bring us into right standing with Him today? “Fear God, and keep His commandments, for this is man’s all.”
Hebrews 12:12-17 continues in the thread of running the race with endurance. Pastor Lance affirms that peace with God happens when we step into right relationship with the Lord on His terms. If we truly lived as He has called us to live, believers could revolutionize the church, the nation, and the world. We must be careful of what we allow to influence us - what we take in and what we are sharing with others. If Christ isn't the driving force of our lives, this race is going to be a very challenging one to run. As we pursue sanctification and holiness, we must separate from ungodly influences. Believers' lives ought to reflect what Jesus has done for us...how powerful the impact of a life surrendered to the Lord! Pastor Lance outlines the ways that people can run from God's grace: stop confessing at the throne, stop reading His Word, stop meeting with other saints, stop serving and allowing God's gifts to be used, and to stop giving. He then goes into depth on how bitterness grows where grace is denied. In the example given by Esau, we see that living outside of God's grace causes bitterness to grow, which saps joy, hurts emotionally, defiles, divides, and can even negatively affect an individual's health. Esau put his physical desires before God's plan, loving all that the world had to offer, rather than the blessings given by the Father. Are you pursuing peace with God, and allowing His grace to drive bitterness from your life?
Verses 2-11 of Hebrews 12 discuss the importance of focusing on Jesus in the midst of trials and how the Lord's discipline legitimizes our position as His children. Pastor Lance touches on the torture, abandonment, and death that Christ faced before He conquered death, and how Jesus pushed through to the very end. He urges believers to fix our eyes on the Lord, and His Word, as we continue to face opposition in this world. Does His Word sustain you? Do you find value in the Bible? We are called to press through all obstacles in love, and the love of God should be a driving force in our life. Pastor Lance points out how the Father disciplines us, either as a form of correction, prevention, or education. While discipline isn't pleasant, it's for our betterment, and to build the kingdom of God and give Him glory in our life. Are you so busy that you don't recognize your need for God's chastening? Our lives must line up with God's Word, otherwise, we need realignment from time to time...all to make us more like Jesus.
Diving into Psalms 1, Pastor Lance considers friendships, the counsel we receive from others around us. If you need to be recalibrated, look at who your friends are, he says. Are there things that you need to let go of? Pastor ties this in to Psalms 119 and the value of God's Word at work in our lives. Christians will not face the same fate as the ungodly, as long as we walk in the ways of the Lord.
Considering all we've covered in our "Persevering Faith" series, Pastor Lance now moves into Hebrews 12 and addresses what a believer is to do next. How are we to run the race of life, as a Christian, in a wicked and dying world that opposes the God we serve? Pastor Lance asserts that how we view God today determines how we will live our life tomorrow. Fearing God leads to wisdom, and teaches us how to walk rightly with Him. That includes throwing off the things that weigh us down and entangle us as we push towards the finish line. We must have singleminded focus and devotion for Christ! Pastor Lance stresses the vital importance of God's Word - our map as we run the race of life. When we spend time in His Word, the more we pour it into our hearts and minds, that is what will come out when we're shaken up. How do you respond in turbulence, when the earth shakes?
Mead, Francel, and Ed discuss Sunday's message, and close out our Persevering Faith series. Examining the flawed people of Hebrews 11:32-40, we see that God uses any measure of faith that we give Him to accomplish the supernatural. While opposition and persecution will always exist, our faith must continue to grow in response to a God who is above all circumstances. Pastor Francel reminds the church that God declares, Satan denies, and we must decide who we will obey. Pastor Mead points out that the first thing Gideon did after encountering the Lord was to tear down the idols that his father had set up, and he challenges believers to consider their own lives and see if there's anything that we need to remove that we've set up before God. Ed brings up the importance of moving forward, pushing on to the end, and not losing sight of the goal ahead of us - Jesus Christ! God has done so much for mankind, and seeing all of His goodness, how much more so should we love and obey Him?
Briefly recapping Hebrews 11, Pastor Lance finishes up the chapter examining the faith of Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, David, and Samuel. Despite their lapses in faith, caving into fear and lust, doubting the Lord, and fleeing from persecution, God's Word remembers these flawed individuals as pillars of faith because of all that God was able to accomplish through their lives. He had shown Himself mighty on their behalf, and the Lord receives all the glory for His victories. Pastor Lance points out that God worked out the details for these people - He simply asked obedience of them. What does your testimony say about all the things the Savior has done in and through your life? Will you be remembered by your faith?
Evaluating the letters to the various churches found in Revelation 3, Pastor Lance highlights the church of Philadelphia (known as the church of "Brotherly Love"). After a brief overview of each church listed in Revelation 2 and 3, he focuses on how Jesus alone holds all power, authority, and treasures of the kingdom, and has set an open door of opportunity before His church. Because a believer's life is transformed by the power and lordship of Christ, we are able to effectively minister to the world around us, as we're called to do by Jesus. Pastor Lance examines the world around us, the agendas of collectivism, and asserts that Christians are to be mindful that the enemy is at work in our society. Although the church operates in this world, it is not to be drawn in by its ideologies, but rather remember our higher calling to look to the good of the Kingdom of God and to love the unsaved. Pastor Lance asks the church to read Ephesians 3 and 4 to find out what our response should be to the world around us.
Next, Pastor Lance takes us through the faith of Joshua and Rahab, both whom God used mightily to bring victory to His people. Because of the faith of Joshua, the Lord was able to guide and direct His nation through the wilderness and into the promised land. Pastor Lance examines how Joshua’s faith obeyed God’s Word, and Rahab’s faith declared itself to others and convinced others to walk the same path. Her faith led to action, which impacted the lives of others, and ultimately led her on a path that ended with her and her family being grafted in to the family of God. What kind of testimony have you been to society in the world we live in?
Pastors Lance, Jay, and Francel discuss the life and faith of Moses. They talk about how his parents' faith set the foundation for his own, and how the godly influence of a parent can be a powerful tool in the life of their child. In a time when the enemy wants to divide Christ's church, how strong is the power of Jesus in your life? The patriarchs we've examined so far believed God to their last breath, and Moses is no different. Pastor Lance looks at the life of Moses, beginning with the faith of his parents. Even when the world was chaotic and dangerous, they were obedient to what the Lord asked them to do. Moses turned his back on the passing pleasures of this world in order to pursue the path that God had set before him, and he's honored by Jews everywhere to this day. Pastor Lance articulates how the persevering faith Moses' life displayed was heroic and infectious, courageous, caused other believers to hold the right values and make right decisions, didn't give into fear, blessed others, and left a godly legacy.
Matt Maher shares the vital importance of hearing and knowing the Father's voice, and obeying it without excuse. Aligning closely with what Pastor Lance has been going through, Matt argues that the onslaught of the world's philosophies have silenced Christians around the world. With all of the evil around us, believers need to rally around the banner of Christ, and nothing else. Matt teaches the importance of God's Word, and urges the church to keep our eyes focused on Him and off of things that don't matter. He points out that Jesus changes human nature, not environment, and that others should know (from our life) that we're spending time with Him. Do you live out the Gospel in such a way that points others to the truth and power only found in Jesus Christ?
Pastors Mead, Jay, and Francel discuss the past two installments of our “Persevering Faith” studies; Part 3 and Part 4. When considering the lives and faith of Noah and Abraham, how does their faith impact our lives today? What does this look like in our church, our world, our families?
Continuing through Hebrews 11, Pastor Lance dissects the life and legacy of Abraham, who walked by faith when the fullness of God’s promises had yet to be seen. The man known as the “Patriarch of Faith” obeyed the voice of God despite the disruption it caused his life. Even when the world disagreed with him, it didn’t make sense, his wife’s faith faltered, and God asked him to do something impossible, Abraham trusted God and it was “accounted to him for righteousness”. His faith cost him, it was difficult, and it pleased God. He lived as a stranger in this world, just passing through…do you have the same mindset? Pastor Lance brought out how persevering faith 1) obeys God’s Word, 2) remains faithful to God and His Word, 3) always looks up, 4) has patience, 5) finishes well, 6) produces a godly legacy. Do you allow God’s voice to be louder than all others (the media, culture, etc.)?
In evaluating the division within the church today, Pastor Lance walks through 1 Corinthians 1:18-31. He points out how the church has always experienced differences in opinions, but that it shouldn’t define us. Paul is writing to the Corinthians to warn them not to be drawn in by the philosophies of man, but to be firmly grounded in the truth of God’s Word. Just as in that day, today we see Christians allowing various offenses to come between us. What went wrong? They got away from the grace of God and prided themselves on their “tolerance” of sin, as we see happening in our day and age. They had adopted the lifestyle of the world and become carnal, using grace as a license to sin. We see that the message of the cross appears to be foolish in comparison to the mindset of the world, and to those whose minds have been renewed by the Holy Spirit, the wisdom of the world is pure folly. Just as Paul saw the power of God’s Word transform the hearts and minds of the people of Corinth, it should be the prayer of the body of Christ to see the same in our society. Pastor Lance argues that only through the revelation of Jesus Christ can a person move from the “elementary principles of man” to the power of God’s wisdom. Where is our hunger for truth and God’s Word?
In continuing through Hebrews 11, Pastor Lance takes a deeper look at the life of Noah and his persevering faith. He reiterates that “faith is living in absolute confidence that what God said, He will do, even when the fullness of the promise has yet to be fulfilled.” Genesis 6 talks about the state of the world and time that Noah lived in, how evil was rampant, and God had compassion on (and grief for) mankind because of the horrifying effects of sin. His judgment was deterred by His grace and mercy, but Noah still had work to do! Pastor Lance shows how Noah was obedient in the face of opposition and hostility, for 120 years. How enduring is your faith? How has God called you to live out your faith in a time when the world is against Him and His people? Pastor Lance argues that faith must obey that which it believes, out of love and reverence for God. Are you moving in this season, or letting it pass you by? What kind of influence is your faith having on those around you?
The book of Hebrews offers insights to Christ’s supremacy over all, and Pastor Lance takes us through chapter 13’s theme of “sacrifice”. He points out how we can make sacrifices to God of praise, a shared life, and passionate engagement with Jesus Christ and His church. Do we give our lives in service to Him? Pastor Lance prompts believers to examine our lives and see if we’re still allowing the Lord to use us, even in this season? He goes on to talk about the doors that God opens, closes, and the opportunities He’s given at this time. Have we obediently and faithfully used the gifts He’s given us to build His church?
Pastors Lance and Stan discuss racism through the lens of God's Word in the context of our culture today. They point out the importance of walking in Christ alongside close friends when our roots are in the family of God. Pastor Lance and Pastor Stan challenge the church with several questions. Do you allow the Lord to surround you with people who are different from you, and if so, how do you love those people through difficult times? Where have you placed your identity? How do you find unity in the body of Christ at a time when the enemy is effectively dividing the church? The pastors walk through the history of the US in regards to slavery and the devastating aftereffects, how generations previous have dealt with racism, how the current political climate has facilitated the same issues, and how believers can embrace diversity. Pastor Stan speaks to the topic of Black Lives Matter, and how they have focused on a movement and missed the message. He urges Christians to live in the power of the blood of Christ in a troubled world, amidst turmoil, loving the people that God has called us to live alongside. Reach out to others around you, and don't be afraid to have these difficult conversations.
How do we respond when God calls us to be flexible in a season of change? Pastor Lance takes us through Genesis 12, when God called Abram to a new land - away from his comfort, familiarity, and luxury. He then looks over Exodus, and the different ways that the Lord moved in the midst of His people to further their trust and faith in Him. Even when circumstances seemed impossible, and God was asking them to move forward into the unknown, His glory was displayed through their obedient faith. Pastor Lance points out how it's one thing to follow the Lord in faith, and quite another to do the same when others (wife, kids, church members, etc.) are depending on you. It takes boldness to live out the call of Christ in this time and country, yet all these adjustments are necessary to be used by God. Are our thoughts in harmony with the will of God? He is looking for hearts that will move forward with Him. He wants to reveal His glory to the lost world, and He wants to use us to accomplish His plans. We should be excited and ready to see Him move, and to follow the Holy Spirit's lead!
What is faith, and how is it lived out in the life of a believer? Pastor Lance pulls apart Hebrews 11:1, and discusses how this generation of the church has found itself facing new challenges to their faith. In the book of Hebrews, the author is contrasting what believers have left behind versus the superiority of Christ in every aspect of life. We may be tempted to return to the former things of the world, but Jesus is worth more than anything we could ever go back to. In examining the definition of faith, and how it is lived out in our society today, Pastor Lance emphasizes the importance of putting our confidence in the Lord alone and having conviction that what He says, He will do. He asks, "what is one thing God has asked you to do in the past 6 months, and have you obeyed?" What kind of faith does your life exhibit?
Examining 2 Samuel 6, Pastor Lance talks about David desiring to bring the Ark of the Covenant up to Jerusalem. He poses a question to believers: "Have we set a spiritual place for Christ in our hearts/homes for the presence of God?" Pastor Lance argues that the church has allowed things into our life that disrupts, hinders, and separates our fellowship with our Creator, and that God is fighting for that place still. In this narrative, we see a vivid picture of how seriously God desires for us to be in His presence - His way and in His timing. Just as Uzzah tried to keep God on a manmade platform to take Him where he wanted God to be, we have propped up the Lord on top of our own agendas and idols in America. God is still trying to repair the relationship that was broken in the garden, He's fighting for it, but we must allow Him place in our lives the way He deserves as our Maker. When we worship the Lord, we do it on His terms, because He alone is holy and worthy of all our praise. Is there any platform between us and God that determines how we meet Him?
Pastor Lance and historian Randy Dickinson continue their discussion about the Christian roots of our American nation. Examining the founding father’s faith, lives, and words, Randy asserts that these men (while most certainly not perfect) feared and honored God - and urged others to the same. Why don’t we learn about these things? America has sanitized its Christian history, and the succeeding generations grow up ignorant of the Lord’s hand in our country’s inception, as a result. We must not make the same mistakes going forward.
In light of all that America is going through right now, Pastor Lance interviews historian Randy Dickinson to discuss America's past, present, and future in light of God's plan and Word. Listen in to get a fresh perspective on the history of our nation, one that today's culture has fought hard to suppress. Lance and Randy discuss how the Lord has had His hand on our country from its inception, and where we're headed next.
In reading through 1 Peter 3:8-17, Pastor Lance pulls out how the church's conduct must reflect what Christ has done in transformed lives. Once a person decides to follow Jesus, there's no turning back. God's gifting and calling are irrevocable, but the church has taken its eyes off Jesus Christ, and it's pulling us apart. We're called to display the character of Christ in our lives by the power of the Holy Spirit; to love those who persecute us, to exhibit grace-filled speech, and to diligently seek the Lord. Pastor Lance argues that the church has let the world pressure us into silence, and that leaders have acted cowardly during this season. We have been called to follow God, not cave in to what culture says we must do, be, or say. Because we are set apart, believers will suffer for righteousness' sake. We live to please Christ, not man.
Pastor Jay cracks open Romans 13 and talks about the importance of viewing authority as God's, and respecting the established authority of our land. He shares that, even when the government is oppressive, believers are to be subject to them as unto God. The exception is when the ruling authorities force you to go against God's Word, as in the case of Daniel or the Hebrew midwives of Egypt in Exodus 1. Pastor Jay gives examples of how we can, as Christ followers, disagree with man's authority when it conflicts with God's. He reiterates that we stand on righteousness, and we showcase that by how we live submissive lives in a corrupt and fallen world.
Taking a brief break from our Tumultuous Times series, Pastor Lance shares what the Lord put on his heart this Father's Day from Ephesians 2 and 3. He talks about the importance of a father's love, how it shapes a child's spirituality and the way they express love to others throughout their life. We can't understand the eternal love of God if we merely look through the lens of human experience, we must experience it personally. The Lord's love for us is relational, growing and sustaining us through life's twists and turns. It should bring hope and, as we live it out, it should be attractive to those who have only seen the unfulfilling "love" that the world offers. God's love should produce lasting fruit in our lives, and drive us to live in community with other believers. Do you enjoy the Lord? How are you cultivating it in your life?
Our job, as representatives of the living God, is to bring His Word into the narrative of our day. The world needs the gentle touch of Jesus right now. As Pastor Lance continues through our series, he points out how a huge wall of division has fallen between God and man when Christ came to reconcile us to God. In examining 1 Peter 3:8-12, we see how the Lord desires for us to live, and how He responds to evil. As God's kids, we are to be bold in the power of His Word and to demonstrate His power while living in a fallen sinful world. The church must be unified and loving if we are to represent the love of Jesus Christ to an unloving world living in rebellion and opposition to His authority. Will you fight for yourself and your rights, or allow the almighty God to fight those battles for you?
When considering the world as we see it now, God's Word is as applicable now as it was when it was first written. Pastor Lance points out that God's plan for us is to be reconciled with Him, and to then continue that purpose in urging others to be reconciled with God. He starts at the beginning, where enmity was born between God and mankind, and what the Lord was willing to do to bridge the gap between us. Where there was once animosity, rebellion, and opposition, through Christ we have peace and a restored relationship with the God who loves us enough to become like us and die for us. This, Pastor Lance says, is a life-changing narrative. We are never the same after truly encountering the living God who created the universe and made a way for us to know Him. Now, our job as believers is to be ambassadors for the Gospel, boldly standing firm in all that He has done for us. We need to be leaders who represent the Word and heart of God unashamedly, especially in a world that is seeking to push its own rebellious agenda and narrative. Will you let God lead you, by faith...or the culture, by fear?
In this next part of the series, Pastor Lance looks at the lawlessness in the world around us and expounds on what God's Word says about it. He reiterates how God does not focus on altering the systems of man, but the heart of man. No matter where a believer finds themself in life, we must live out the commands of the Lord. In examining lawlessness and injustice, we see that anarchist and rebellious behavior begins with a desire to replace God-given authority with one's own. Pastor Lance touches on the topic of pride, the breakdown of authority in the home, and the importance of spreading God's opinion rather than our own. The church's job is to show the world the right path, one of reconciliation and unity, and we do that by living out the Lord's call to obey and humble ourselves. We need to have a biblical worldview, and to lead others to Christ with it. Let the Holy Spirit be the One to help you stand in the power of His Word, as we show the world what it looks like to live as "Kingdom Kids" who represent the King of Kings. Pastor Lance reminds us that Jesus did not come to reform the world and its systems, but to transform human hearts, minds, and lives.
Looking around at the world today, it's easy to see that American society is going through a volatile time. How much more vital it is to be anchored in Christ! In this series, Pastor Lance opens by addressing the current issues that the US is facing, what God's Word says, and how believers are to respond. Delving in to 1 Thessalonians 5:12-22, he urges the church to be busy about the work of the Lord and to face these issues in the power of the Holy Spirit. We should be grieved at the things which grieve the Spirit of God, and we must instill a biblical perspective in this next generation. Pastor Lance opens up the Bible to see how God views racism, the value of a human life, and what it means to be created in the image of God. Although the world would label the Christian church many things, it is the church's job to be unified in spite of all that culture may be telling us. The unity that Christ creates is more powerful than that which used to drive us in the world. Does love drive your every action, as it should?
We are not called to follow social trends unless those things line up with God's Word and promote the advancement of His Kingdom. Pastor Lance affirms that God is still in control, in the midst of tragedy and a world gone mad. He urges believers to be heavenly minded, and to note that what we're seeing around us is indicative of a heart condition. Christians today have the incredible opportunity to show what redemption and a God-fearing life looks like. Are you representing the heart of God and displaying His opinion, or your own? Pastor Lance states that followers of God must have a spiritual posture and line up with God's Word, even as the Spirit is grieved by what's happening in America today. He stresses that God's children must value life, remembering that transformation and sanctification take time. A redeemed sinner's identity is in Christ alone.
In looking back on this season of staying at home, Pastor Lance reflects on all that the Lord has taught us at Calvary La Habra. Beginning with the fact that no one is ever beyond the reach of the Lord, he reminds us of the certainty of God in uncertain times. The Holy Spirit, our great Comforter, knows what we need and when we need it, which should be an immense comfort in these troubled times. The Father knows that we have a rough road ahead of us, and He has gone before us, encouraging us to follow in His steps. When we feel overwhelmed, Jesus knows just what we need. Have you trusted Him completely over the last few months, with every trial? Have you allowed Him to redirect your mind and focus your perspective on His plan, His Word, and His ways? Pastor Lance then encouraged the church to trust Him with this faith-refining process, looking to what God wants to teach us instead of the circumstances. Church, have you allowed the Holy Spirit to keep you connected, loved, and equipped, walking step-in-step with Him, and displaying patient joy to the unbelieving world?
In gathering together for the first time in 3 months, Pastor Lance takes the church through Psalm 122 and how glad it is to go into the house of the Lord. Just as David wanted to dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of His life, we realize that the church is feeling a renewed appreciation for the place where we can worship God as one. Pastor Lance points out how David had his eyes set on the Lord, he loved God, His Word, and His people. In this season, the Holy Spirit has brought unity to His people, gathering us together in unique ways and instilling a thankfulness for Him. Do our hearts and attitudes reflect that the Lord is the One doing the work, and will bring us through to the other side? As we move towards reopening our country, Pastor Lance encourages believers to recognize God's hand in this, and in the authorities He has placed over us in our city, county, state, and nation. We must be a people who pursue peace, as the Bible clearly teaches. Who's voice is speaking loudest to you: God's or the media? Are we marked by the peace of God at this time, or taking up arms against our brothers and sisters?
In going through Colossians 1:9-12, Pastor Lance highlights how we must be a church who prays as Paul did, to be intentional in pursuing communion with the Lord, and filled with the knowledge of God's will. When we're fully submitted to the will of God, it will be evidenced by the fruit of our lives and the filling of the Holy Spirit. True spiritual wisdom must affect our day-to-day life...we must apply God's Word! Pastor Lance reiterates that our approach to everything should be "God-centered", not "me-centered". Our life should be an expression of Jesus Christ's revelation, evident to the world around us. It should include a love of His Word, absolute obedience, enlarged faith, greater love for others, a spiritual strength that only comes from the Holy Spirit, and joy will mark my life, as will patience and thankfulness.
Pastors Lance, Gabe, and Francel return to Sunday's messages and look at how God's word is our standard as believers. They examine the way we view "church", and how who we are (as the church) doesn't change because we haven't been able to physically assemble right now. Looking at the Kingdom of God, we see by the fruit of believers' lives that His kingdom never stops and God's plan continues. He's not limited to what we can do within 4 walls, and His work is growing! Touching on fear and uncertainty, the pastors stress the importance of looking to Jesus and allowing Him to deal with our hearts and minds as our Source of help and hope. Are we trusting Him with His perfect plan for His church? Are our hearts open to what He wants to do today, this week, month, and year?
In the second part of "Continue Being the Church", Pastor Lance points out several characteristics that marked the early church and should mark our lives today. Whether it's reading and living out God's Word, praying, or spending quality time in fellowship, in order to be effective we must trust God's ways and look to Him for direction. Do you live in a constant state of awe of God and awareness of His presence? Is there an expectation that God will meet you in this season? What is the spiritual tone in your home today? Along with these questions, Pastor Lance affirms that we must be people marked by the Lord's presence and work in our lives. Give praise to Him for all He has done and is continuing to do in your life!
The pastors pick up the same thread of conversation as last Sunday: we can still be the church in this stay at home season. Pastors Lance, Jay, and Francel discuss Sunday's message, looking at conviction, repentance, and new life in Christ as His church. Has the church ceased being the church because of an alteration of circumstances? Certainly not. They point out the importance of knowing that God has total control of our circumstances, and of filtering our thoughts through His promises. The pastors go over Sunday's message on advancing the Kingdom of God, and our role in advancing His Kingdom. The parables of the sower, the lamp, and the mustard seed showcase how we respond to God's Word - we must be dispensers of God's Word, not storehouses. They finish off with an encouragement to be faithful with the people God has brought into your life.
Jesus taught about the Kingdom of God more than anything else while He was here, and saw many different responses to God's truth. Pastor Lance examines the parable of the sower, and highlights how man's reception of God's Word is determined by the state of their heart. The Holy Spirit wants to do a work in your heart, but are you receptive to Him? He wants to use transformed lives to change the world and move mankind from the kingdom of darkness to the Kingdom of God!

Continuing our discussion of what occurred after Jesus' resurrection and ascension, Pastor Lance walks through the book of Acts. He highlights many of the things Jesus taught on, pulling out the main theme of the "Kingdom of God": what it is, where it's found, and how we come to belong to it.
On this panel, Pastors Lance, Jay, and Francel discuss the previous Sunday's message on "Proclaim[ing] What You Believe". They look at how this plays out at home (in family life), then to the community God has called us to, and to the world at large. They point out that it's not so much where we preach God's Word, but that we do. It's not a suggestion for believers, it's a commission!
God has given us a charge to take His Word to the world around us. This transformative message is to be shared wherever we go and in all we do. Pastor Lance encourages believers to be faithful with the Gospel message: who Jesus is and what He has done for the world. He delves into baptism, what it signifies in the life of a Christian, and other observations that we walk in to display our association with the risen Savior. God's Word is alive and powerful, working in the life of the sharer and receiver. He also discusses the role of the Holy Spirit and the church, asking what we are doing to proclaim the Good News today?
Pastor Lance and Stan Mitchell discuss Sunday's message and how God is ultimately in control. Stan talks about the importance of being ready, in season and out of season, to proclaim the truth without anxiety or fear holding us back. He urges us to cast our cares on our Savior, because He cares for us, we need Him, and we can only find rest in Him. Pastor Lance urges us to see ourselves in light of who God is and allow Him to speak to us through His Word and in prayer. He points out how the plight of Job brings our circumstances into perspective. The posture of our heart determines how seriously we take this time to hear from the Lord: replace anxiety with supplication and praise.
Good news! Jesus is alive! He has risen, as He said He would, and now we have the hope of eternity. Pastor Lance expounds on how this came to pass, what it means for us now, and the response that we ought to have to a risen Savior.
Why did Jesus have to die? Pastor Lance delves into the "why" behind Good Friday, and points to the living hope that we have in Jesus Christ's death, burial, and resurrection.
Why did they cross-examine Jesus on Tuesday? On the Tuesday Panel of Passion Week, Pastors Lance, Jay, Mead, and Francel discuss how Jesus handled the religious leaders' questions. Just as the authorities of the day questioned the authority of Jesus, so too do we rebel against His lordship. The pastors encourage us to reflect on if we are rooted and grounded in God's Word, if there are places in our life that we don't want to relinquish authority to God, and if we're questioning Jesus or walking in trust.
What did Jesus do on Monday? After the triumphal entry on Sunday, and with the cross before Him on Friday, Jesus knew it was His time to go public with His identity. Pastor Lance examines Jesus' response to the barren fig tree, and how it reflected the spiritual state of the nation of Israel at the time. Jesus never does anything without purpose and a plan, and for the disciples, class was in session.
As we kick off Passion Week this year, we begin with Palm Sunday and the events that took place in the lives of Jesus and His disciples that day. Pastor Lance parallels how unprepared the nation of Israel was for their Messiah to the world today. Are we ready for Him to be Lord, for His return, for the plans He has for us? The people of Jerusalem wanted Jesus just for what He could do for them at the moment, not as their Lord. The same can be true for us today, especially as we're living in such an unstable time for the world.
In 1 Peter 4, Pastor Lance draws out God's purpose as we go through trials, for believers and non-believers alike. We’re currently in the Refiner’s fire with this health crisis, and the Lord wants to use it to grow us, go deeper with us, and to draw others to Himself. While suffering isn't pleasant at the moment, it produces great things in those who look at it through God's perspective.
Pastor Lance shared a message out of Isaiah 40, where he highlighted how we can depend on the certainty of God in these turbulent days. He reminds us that when we turn to Him in our fear, our difficult circumstances will be eclipsed by Him, His eternal Word, and His peace. No matter what, God is bigger. At a time when the church is tempted to spiritually "shelter in place", it's not about what WE can do, but about what GOD can do. He desires to work. Are we available for that, no matter what it looks like right now? "God is our refuge and our strength, a very present help in time of need. Therefore we will not fear..." (Psalm 46:1-2).
In this time of social upheaval, where are our eyes focused? Pastor Lance draws from Mark 6, when the disciples are in the midst of a storm. As we walk through times of uncertainty, the Lord doesn't leave us there alone. He has full control in the middle of the storm, He is with us, and we can have peace in Him!
In a time of uncertain circumstances, how can we be an example of stability to the world? How do we lead others to Christ in troubled times, when our normal routine is disrupted? Pastor Lance talked about fear and anxiety surrounding the unknowns of our society, and gave encouragement out of 1 & 2 Timothy to be an example in word, conduct, love, spirit, faith, and purity, expounding on how this plays out in our lives. He reminded believers that in all things, we must not give in to panic, but come to the Lord with prayer and thanksgiving.
This Sunday Stan Mitchell shared with us about the power of the blood that cleanses and redeems us! He taught out of Colossians 1:1-22, and gave a strong call to live a changed life in greater service to our King. Are you all in for the Lord?
God is all light, there is no darkness in Him at all. When we walk in His light we have fellowship with God and our lives will show this. It allows us to walk in intimate fellowship with the Father and other believers. It keeps us in close contact with Him and allows us to experience conviction when we sin. Pastor Lance points out that, as believers (who walk in the light), we should be honest with Him and not seek to conceal it. To walk in this intimate relationship with God and with other believers requires transparency, honesty, humility and it is subject to our obedience to God.
Solomon gives us a few pictures of life in Chapter 11. Life is an adventure (it is not monotonous), and it must be lived fully. He also conveys that life is a gift, and we must enjoy it as such. Pastor Lance summarizes that the wise person will live their life each day to the fullest, and a proper perspective of life begins with recognizing God as the source of our life.
Did Jesus truly walk here on this earth, in the flesh? Absolutely. Was He God incarnate? Without a doubt. Follow along with Pastor Lance as he delves into John's eyewitness account of Jesus Christ, His ministry while He was here, and why this matters to us today.
Pastor Lance looks at Ecclesiastes 10, where Solomon contrasts the foolish leader and the wise leader. He then examined how our words display the inner workings of a person's heart, and how a building, a government, or a life will collapse if not properly maintained. Walking in wisdom takes work, and we're responsible to put in the effort.
As Pastor Lance finishes up the introduction to 1 John, he deftly brings the person of Jesus to life by calling to question what it would have been like to be John - an eyewitness of God's incarnation - as he walked with the Lord. What would it have been like to hear the voice of Jesus, to see Him give a blind man sight, to look into His love-filled eyes? He also examines the various reasons that John wrote the book of 1 John, and what evidence for salvation we can point to in the lives of believers.
As we begin the book of 1 John, Pastor Lance points to the transformative power of God at work in John's life. He went from a fisherman to being known as the "Apostle of Love". Upon leaving 2 Peter and starting the book of 1 John, there's much to be said in both of these disciples' lives that Jesus worked in and through them. In this letter particularly, John urges churches to stand firm in Christ's love against the philosophies of this world...a very relevant lesson for today's church also.
No one wants to die, but death is inescapable. Pastor Lance reflects on what constitutes a life well lived, and the impartial and irrefutable law of reaping what we sow.
In looking at wisdom, Solomon next focuses on inequity…why is it that good people suffer and the evil prosper? Pastor Lance takes us through the rest of chapter 8, examining at the great equalizer: death.
Solomon highlights to origin of good and evil, and the face that we all must face the difficult questions of evil within our world. Pastor Lance addresses the issue of authority and wise leadership.
Through chapter 7, Pastor Lance contrasts the wise with the foolish of the world. Can wisdom make life better? Solomon, as the wisest man to walk the earth (aside from Jesus), found that wisdom is absolutely essential to living life on the earth.
What is it that gives life meaning? Recognizing that every day is a gift from God. Solomon highlights the importance of wisdom, and considers if wisdom, applied to our life, can make it better. Pastor Lance dives into the contrasts that Solomon outlines in the beginning of chapter 7, including life and death, a good reputation/name versus a bad one, and grieving instead of celebrating.
Solomon points out the evils of loving wealth and money, the least of which is the unfulfillable desire for more. He sees the tragedy of those who have all the resources to live a satisfying life, but are not able to enjoy it for one reason or another. Pastor Lance acknowledges that no one can truly enjoy the gifts of God apart from God, who gives those gifts.
Continuing through Ecclesiastes 5, Pastor Lance looks at the vanity of pursuing wealth and positions of authority within human government. He points out that not only is human government incapable at addressing the wrongs of the world, but it's often the perpetrator of that oppression. Only with God can we find true justice.
Pastor Lance sets the scene for how we should use our words - with wisdom and temperance. Even when we express devotion to God, we must be mindful of how we come to Him. In this love-based relationship, we should not enter into His presence lightly.
In chapter 5, Solomon is looking for meaning and fulfillment in life. He finds that there is vanity in external and heartless religion. We must be mindful of God, see Him for who He is, and approach Him correctly and sacrificially, with honor and sincerity. Pastor Lance stresses that we must give with the right heart, whether it be good works, prayers, or of our resources. Furthermore, we must be ready to hear and obey God's Word.
Ecclesiastes 4 discusses how Solomon went to the courtroom, the marketplace, the palace, the temple, and found that leaving God out of the equation leads to injustice in each place.
As we continue through Ecclesiastes 3, the topic of work arises, and the purpose of toiling in this life. If we only see life as a Monday morning at work, life will seem like anything other than a gift from God, which is exactly what life is.
Everything has its time, and life consists of seasons. Pastor Lance examines these various aspects of life and walks through what this means for believers, as we live life here on this earth.
In chapter 2, Solomon discusses the vanity of pleasure as well as the expected end of the godly and the fool.
The first chapter of Ecclesiastes focuses on Solomon's (being the wisest human to walk the earth aside from Jesus) search for meaning apart from God. He ultimately concludes that life apart from God is "vanity".
