One question that affects business at all levels is: 'How to make customers happy?' Ben Ho has created a business called yesloyal with the main focus of customer satisfaction. A former employee of HP and Ingram Micro in the Market and Business Development sectors, and with a Master of Business Administration from the Australian Institute of Business, he is incredibly qualified to answer why customer satisfaction is so important in helping small business grow.
Starting yesloyal in December 2017 with his brother, Hogan, he has created loyalty programs for numerous businesses to create happy customers and improve sales. A proponent of small business, he is an active member of SWEH (South West Entrepreneurial Hub), which aims to support and represent business owners in the South West. He sat down with Dai Le to discuss customer satisfaction, why the dictionary is his favourite book, and his enthusiasm in sharing his knowledge with others.

What makes a successful entrepreneur? 2019 Fairfield City Women's Day Award winner, Le Ho, followed this mantra when starting her many successful businesses. From running bridal shoe stores to taking Capital City Waste Services from the brink of bankruptcy to a $10 million turnover, she was also a 2017 Finalist of the NSW Business Woman of the Year Award. When asked about business advice, she reiterates time and time again to never give up and to rediscover that entrepreneurial spirit that originally captivated you. Happily retired, she continues to spend time educating people on what makes a successful entrepreneur, and the many business tips for success. She sat down with Dai Le to discuss what can and can't be recycled, a multitude of recycling facts, and her successful entrepreneur story.

"Why are we so disconnected from food now and why don't we care?"
This is the question Thanh Truong, a self-described 'Fruit Nerd', is attempting to answer through his passion for cooking. He is exceptionally passionate about fruits and vegetables, and the benefits these contribute to a healthy diet. After all, good food starts with good produce. Thanh is eager to educate Australians on where their food comes from and the behind-the-scenes knowledge of the subtle differences on every piece of produce. Thanh and his friend, Duncan, were Runners-up on the Channel 7 cooking game show Plate of Origin. Representing Vietnam, he successfully brought Vietnamese cuisine to the spotlight and shined the light on the dishes he grew up with. Moving on from Plate of Origin, he is now pursuing a Masters in Food Systems & Gastronomy to further educate himself on the incredible benefits and possibilities of blending fruits and vegetables. A strong advocate for humanity and belonging, Bart Bailey, consultant and facilitator in the diversity, inclusion and equity space, was recently personally challenged with the loss of his 80-year-old dad from COVID-19. According to Bart while African-Americans made up 32 per cent of the population, they made up more than double the numbers of deaths, at 70%. With the death of George Floyd, Bart believed the issue of equity and disparity has emerged more so during this COVID-19 period than any other time.
He joins Founder Dai Le from Pennsylvania to share his insights on the impact of COVID-19 on him and his family, and on the American people.

COVID-19 has profoundly impacted Australia’s hospitality industry. Many have closed their doors following the government-imposed shutdown of restaurants on March 23, 2020. For Jason Chang, co-founder and CEO of Calia, a gourmet retail store/restaurant that gives customers the ability to replicate Asian culinary cuisine in the luxury of their homes, the business has been forced to pivot offering takeaway, selling groceries, alcohol and holding online events to keep their customers.
Jason Chang is the son of Chinese immigrants, who learned about business from accompanying his parents to Melbourne markets while growing up. He shared with DAWNCast why the business is hanging on.

Seeing her parents fresh grade produce damaged in transportation to its destination prompted Nina Nguyen to come up with a solution that would transform packaging for Australian farmers.
A daughter of migrants, Nina grew up in Sydney's South West with a desire to get into business. After trying out a few business ventures, she was drawn closer to home when her parents asked her to help solve the issue of their farms packaging. Nina set up The Boxco to supply top quality produce packaging to the Australian farmers up north. But with the high costs of importing those boxes, and the fluctuation Australian dollar, Nina decided to step up. And so Pakko was born.

In this episode, Nathan provides insights into newly emerging cybersecurity threats during the coronavirus pandemic, how cybercriminals are feeding of the fear of others to spread malware and what each individual can do to stay safe and protect themselves from cybersecurity threats.
Nathan's team is part of a larger team of professionals in multiple locations around Australia and around the world that work closely together to provide security services ranging from incident response, cyber security engineering, cyber threat intelligence, and technology and platform management for commercial and government customers.
He's also a great doting dad to his two year old son, Isaac and husband to beautiful wife, Ngan Pham. Nathan also volunteers where he can act as a reservist in the Army, veteran’s welfare, and still geeks out in his lab/workshop.

In our next episode of our dawn cast #podcast series, Dawn Founder Dai Le and Keynoteworthy Founder Catherine Ngo, are joined by Michael Burge OAM, Current Director of the Australian College of Trauma Treatment, to discuss the mental health impacts of the coronavirus pandemic, symptoms of anxiety and tips on how to cope.
He has been working clinically in the area of PTSD for approximately 30 years and he was responsible for setting up and supervising trauma response teams of psychologists through much of country Victoria to help veterans and their families. Michael has published and presented extensively both nationally and internationally (including keynotes), in the field of PTSD. He has provided thousands of hours of service (including voluntary) to most traumatized communities in Australia. These include the Black Saturday Communities, whereby innovative educational and treatment programs were provided for combined professional and survivor groups, in the years post disaster. He introduced PTSD treatment methods to most Melbourne Universities as guest Lecturer and in 1993 introduced short course, skills- based training for the treatment of PTSD into Australia.
In 2010 Michael was made a Fellow of the Australian Psychological Society: made for sustained outstanding contributions to the science, and or application of psychology. In the 2010 Australia Day Honours, Michael was awarded the Order of Australia Medal for service to psychology & the community for the development of training & treatment protocols for trauma.
Michael is former President of the Victorian Branch of the EMDR Association and former Victorian Chair of the Australian Psychological Society (APS) and recent former Director, Board of Directors, of the APS.

At the age of 20, Linh Podetti became a single mother. Yarrie Bangura’s carefree childhood was disrupted by civil war in her home country of Sierra Leone. After years in refugee camps and experiencing poverty, and trauma Yarrie and her family were given the opportunity to rebuild their lives in Australia.
While studying international development, Yarrie decided to set up an organic ginger beer business reconnecting to her childhood memories of growing up in a loving home and environment surrounded by the great women in her life, including her grandmother, who would often make the special ginger drink that is at the core of Yarrie's Aunty Ginger Tonic Beer.

Associate Professor Caroline Ford leads the Gynaecological Cancer Research Group at the University of New South Wales. Over the past eight weeks, the Covid19 lock down has had a huge impact on the the laboratory work of many scientists, including Professor Caroline's team.
At the time of this conversation with Professor Ford, she was looking forward to the team going back to lab to work which is due this week.
Professor Ford established her lab at the Lowy Cancer Research Group in 2010 after international postdoctoral fellowships at the University of Toronto, Canada and Lund University, Sweden. Her research aims to understand why gynaecological cancers develop, how and why they spread throughout the body, and how best to treat them. She leads major projects on the early detection of ovarian cancer and molecular targets in ovarian and endometrial cancer.
Professor Ford is also a long-time advocate for women in science, and was named a “Superstar of STEM” by Science & Technology Australia, a program aimed at smashing the stereotype of what a scientist looks like. In 2018 she founded the STEMMinist Book Club a global and virtual community focused on feminism and women in STEMM, which has rapidly grown to include over 4500 members from 30 countries worldwide.

Bernie Zelvis may not be a household name to the public but in the world of Australian Pay TV and live music broadcasting his work is legendary. He directed massive live music events such as the Big Day Out and worked with international musical luminaries such as Coldplay, Brian May from Queen and Lady Gaga.
Bernie has continued to adapt, thrive and survive in an ever-changing media landscape and is currently teaching media production for TAFE NSW in Sydney.
This is the story of how a boy from Wollongong ended up directing some of the biggest international names and acts in the world.

Dr Jasvir Nachatar Singh and Dr Sabrina Gupta from La Trobe University share with DAWN CAST their findings into South Asian international students, and the impact of Covid19. In this episode, they gave Dai Le and Cathy Ngo some insights into the lived experiences, the challenges and future of these students.
Jasvir came from Malaysian as an international student and stayed in Australia with her husband after being offered a role in academia.
Dr Jasvir Kaur Nachatar Singh is an award-winning Lecturer at the Department of Management, Tourism and Sport at La Trobe University, Australia. Dr Singh was first appointed as the Early Career Development Fellow at the Department of Management, Tourism and Sport, La Trobe University in July 2016. In 2015, Dr Singh received her PhD with a thesis that explored '‘What is Academic Success for International Postgraduate Students? A Qualitative Study of Student and Staff Perspectives at a Malaysian University’.
Dr. Sabrina Gupta is a Lecturer in the School of Psychology and Public Health and Assistant Course Advisor for the Bachelor of Health Science Program at La Trobe University. Sabrina completed her PhD in 2017 titled "Ethnicity, Cardiovascular Disease & Diabetes: A comparison between South Asians and Anglo Australians in Victoria, Australia". In this research she examined migration, ethnicity, lifestyle, CVD and diabetes and the relationship with the healthcare system. She lectures in both undergraduate and post-graduate health science courses and supervises honours and post-graduate students in public health research.

How did a country with approximately 97 million people, nearly four times the number of Australia, manage its society and economy through Covid19 in the past few months?
While there has only been two deaths in recent days, with both elderly men having underlying health conditions, Vietnam's Minister of Health has so far confirmed a total of 509 cases of COVID-19, with 369 of the affected patients reported to have recovered and been discharged from hospitals. The latest 45 cases were all linked to hospitals in Da Nang.
Vietnam, unlike many other countries, locked its border, implemented social distancing, and masks wearing long before it had any confirmed positive Covid19 cases.
In addition, it tapped into the country's most popular artist - Minh Beta - who penned the catchy song, Vietnam Oi - to get the people's spirit up and complying to the strict safety measures enforced throughout the country to prevent the spread of the virus.

The coronavirus pandemic has not only seen a surge in online food orders via popular platforms such as Uber Eats, Deliveroo and Menulog but it has also seen more restaurants turn to on-demand food delivery as a way to connect with customers.
But did you know that Uber Eats charges restaurants on their platform a commission fee of 30%? Despite the fact that Uber Eats has dropped the fee by 5% in May this year, many restaurants argue that the commission of 30% was still not sustainable for restaurants with many restaurant owners taking matters into their own hand and opting to deliver the food themselves or encouraging customers to pick up food.

As a child, Aleem Ali had to explain his name. While he had to constantly explain the origin of his name, Aleem shared on Dawncast that growing up in Queensland to a loving and inclusive family with a Muslim father and a Christian mother, gave him the resilience and confidence to respond to questions about his heritage and background, and even dealt with racism.
He shares with Dai Le and Cathy Ngo the wisdom his grandfather passed on to his father, who passed it onto him.

Julia Newbould is editor-at large at Money magazine Australia. She has a long career in financial media, starting in 2000 at Financial Planning magazine. He pioneered water.org's first ever water urban utility financing program named "Water Connect" to assist those living in developing and under-developed countries. He successfully piloted the program in Indonesia and scaled-up within the country and to Cambodia and the Philippines.
He humbly shared with Dawncast how he empowered over 300,000 people with access to clean water and sanitation.

The Eden-Monaro By-Election will be held on July 4th.
For those who follow Australian politics, this Federal seat is currently held by the Labor Member of the House of Representatives, Mike Kelly, who resigned on April 30th, 2020 due to ill health. The margin of the Federal seat is .9% to Labor.
Eden-Monaro is known as a "bellwether seat", which means whichever Party wins the seat, determines the Government of the day. It has been that way from 1972 until 2016. But that didn't happy in 2016 when it swung to Labor but Labor didn't win Government.
It's often the two major parties in Australia - Labor and Liberals - who put up candidates to run in elections. This time it would be no different. However, in recent years, Australia has seen the emergence of Independent candidates running in elections. And as more and more people become cynical about the current system, they are turning away from the major parties and placing their vote on others who were more accessible and representative.
Can an independent like Karen Porter make a difference in this seat? July 4th is American Independence Day.
