With so many denominations and opinions on what it means to be a Christian, it can be difficult to determine what is fundamental to the faith. In this series, we'll look at what's essential--and what's not--when it comes to following Jesus.

Jesus didn’t simply HAVE the best explanation for God. Jesus IS the best explanation for God. In Part 2 of "The Fundamental List," Ken teaches how Jesus illustrates and demonstrates for us what God is like.

From God's point of view, your purpose is very simple. Just as a grape vine must do, the main purpose of our lives is to produce fruit. Even more fundamental of a lesson, we must never forget that the owner of the vineyard is in charge, in control, and focused on receiving as much fruit as possible from his vineyard.
Christmas is a season for joy but far too often it becomes a burden instead. Despite doing our best... our Christmas list often rivals our "worry list." Listen to this week's message as Ken teaches us how to unburden our hearts so we can find true peace by letting go of worry and trusting Jesus who is our "way, truth and life!"
The Gospel of John is the clearest book in the New Testament on how to receive a forever relationship with God (John 3:16; John 20:31). Throughout the gospel comes 7 “I AM” statements that express who Jesus is and how Jesus relates to humanity. When Jesus makes these 7 statements about himself, he is connecting an Old Testament story from Exodus 3 about how God gives Moses his proper name “Yahweh” or “I Am”. Join New Community during this Christian season of Thanksgiving & Christmas as we learn as we learn in a deeper way WHO Jesus is and how much he really loves us!!
In our on-going study of the “I AM” statements of Jesus, Pastor Ken stays in John 10 as we hear the famous proclamation of Jesus claiming: “I am the good Shepherd”. Join us for this week’s encouraging word about our Good Shepherd, Jesus, as he teaches that we are like sheep and He is a Good Shepherd who lovingly, tenderly cares for us.

When Jesus proclaims himself as the "Light of the World," it's not just a metaphorical statement; it's a powerful declaration of his ability to illuminate our lives, guide us through darkness, and reveal the truth, much like the physical phenomenon of light dispels shadows and reveals the world around us; this concept, when examined alongside scientific understanding of light, provides a striking illustration of the divine nature of Christ and the transformative power of his grace, particularly as seen in the Gospel of John's story of forgiveness and redemption.

Doubt doesn't have to be an off-ramp to faith. In fact, it's a natural part of the journey.
No matter if our current season of life is easy or difficult, we strive to fix our eyes on Jesus instead of our circumstances.
When life doesn’t turn out the way we hope, it can cause us to doubt God’s goodness. But many times, it’s in the midst of our circumstances that we better understand God’s presence.

Worship is usually defined by an hour on Sunday morning. Or with an act of singing or listening to a sermon. God on the other hand chose to define worship for us relationally with his Son Jesus. In a stunning story… this relational lesson is displayed in a one to one experience with Jesus & woman who desperately needs healing in her soul. Join us as we learn the five principles of worship from the famous story “The Woman at the Well.”
Loneliness is not good for your health! It can really weigh on you. You can be around people, busy at work with others & living in a busy community… but you can still be “lonely in a crowd.” God starts the Bible with talking about the importance of community. God created us because he loves us & wants to share His community with us. Join us Sunday as we learn what true “Christ Community” is all about.
When we are rushing out the door on a trip... we often rattle off last things on "The List." The author of Hebrews is doing the same thing making sure everything is said about life being "Just Jesus" before he says his goodbyes. Hebrews 13 is a fascinating reminder of what NewCommunity in Christ is all about. Join us as we end the book listening to the final advice about life being just about Jesus.
Stephen R. Covey in his book, The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, has as his second principle: "Begin with the end in mind." No chapter in the Bible reflects this value more than Hebrews chapter 12. This chapter is challenging, thought provoking insulting and sometime scary as to the vision of what the end of our life will be like. It has nothing to do with our salvation but everything to do with our inheritance. Come join us Sunday as we dive deep into what "A Life Rewarded" actually looks like.
When we read about the amazing people of faith in the Bible, we often forget that those great recorded moments are only a small percentage of their lives. Most of the days of Jesus, Peter, Paul, Mary, Ruth and David were average and mundane. While the great faith stories for all of us are fast and furious... it's the day to day living that God often uses to test our spiritual faith. Come Sunday and learn how to become a better "marathon runner" and learn to endure the normal average days as well.
Sometimes there are certain Bible words or theological terms that seem abstract and hard to understand. But when it comes to faith... NOT SO! The author of Hebrews actually spends more time telling us how TO DO faith than defining what FAITH IS. No better chapter in the entire Bible gives us an explanation filled with practical and historical answers from great believers in the past. Join us Sunday as we dive into how to LIVE faith in order to achieve a REWARDED life!
Describing faith and doing faith are two different things! Some things in life are just easier to show than explain. The author of Hebrews says "This is what faith must be." It's just easier to show you how it's done than teach it. So in the famous chapter in the Bible about faith, Hebrews 11, the author gives illustration after illustration and story after story to convince us to be one of the greats and "Do faith!" Join us today as we learning quickly what FAITH IS so that in turn we can go DO FAITH!
Warnings in life lead to one of two conclusions: 1) Safety, peace and triumphal living or 2) "Crash & burn" living because we did not heed to life's warnings. Hebrews chapter 10 was written to encourage us to live a life that despite the hardships, trials and mistakes we make God is always there to encourage us to live strong, break down walls and follow Christ despite the set backs.
We take a break from Hebrews as Pastor Ken celebrates welcoming his 4th grandchild.
Here Pastor Ethan discusses Prayer, what it is, what its value is, and how we can and should seek connection with our Father in heaven on everything in our life.
Without ever knowing it... we were born wanting to do the Old Testament LAW. The law encapsulates our desire to do things on our own, figure out our own life and be self sufficient. The Law was a better system that how God administered his grace before Moses...but it generally had only 3 purpose and none of them ever gave out the grace that Jesus does for us today. Come Sunday and learn how we can say to God with complete confidence: "Lord, you will... will be my will."
Everything we do when it comes to money is to live for this life. There are a few wise people, however, that invest their money for their retirement, or future vacation or grandkids' college funds! We all understand that "living for the next stage of life" is wise and fruitful when we do it. The same is true about our life here on earth. When we invest with our character and conduct towards the future Kingdom of Christ, we are "Living for the Next Life". Come Sunday and learn 5 helpful suggestions that the author of Hebrews suggests when it comes to investing in the next life.
pJoin us for an inspiring and thought-provoking discussion on the concept of covenants and their significance in our lives, especially in our relationship with God. Discover how this new covenant, based on God's promises and Jesus' perfect sacrifice, offers us a relationship with God that is rooted in love, forgiveness, and eternal security. Whether you're a long-time believer or just curious, this message is for you. Come and explore how embracing this covenant can transform your life.
The topic of rewards in heaven is the least preached topic in the Bible yet the most mentioned topic when it comes to the motivation of the Christian in living right in a wrong world. Rewards, inheritance and the rule of the believers are mentioned more than salvation verses in the Bible! The author of Hebrews leans on this topic of reward more frequently than any other author in the New Testament. Join us today as we look at seven ways one may gain reward when focusing their spiritual life on Just Jesus!
There are all kinds of Christians... those with weak faith, those with ok faith, those with great faith and some of those with amazing faith. Hebrews is a book that challenges us NOT to have weak faith. In fact the author of Hebrews goes beyond challenging... he warns us that living a "no faith" lazy Christian life is dangerous! Listen in as we look at four principles that will help us discover how not to be lazy in life!
Humility is the language of God. And when we wear this "Badge of Leadership" the way Jesus did... there is amazing blessing from God the Father. Check out this week's message and learn what are the four keys to growing in leadership and gain the blessing of God that he promises when we walk like Jesus in humility.

In order for us to understand God, he gives us a lot of word pictures in the Bible about who He is and what He came to do for us. God calls himself "Father" and those who believe in His Son... "Children." Jesus is called the "Groom" and the church is called the "Bride." The church is also called the "Body" and Christ is called the "Head." The Apostle Paul takes this word picture of the body and uses one anthropological word to help us gain where we need to be to grow in Christ... the HEART. Come Sunday and learn why the heart is not only the center-point of our physical survival but for our spiritual survival as well!
Most people understand the importance of monitoring the physical condition of their heart.Jesus taught that the spiritual and emotional condition of the heart is what’s most important in this life. Your heart is the control center. Proverbs 4:23 says, “Guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” The goal of a follower of Jesus should be to allow our hearts to break for the things that break God’s heart. When you are faced with another person in a tough situation or in desperate need, how does your heart respond? Do you feel_____?
Monitoring the physical condition of our hearts is important, but what about the spiritual condition of our hearts? As it turns out, both the physical and emotional health of our hearts have a common adversary— our appetites. Only two words exist in the language of appetites: MORE and NOW, especially when it comes to how we view money and possessions. Jesus has a different perspective. He encourages us not to store up our treasures on earth, but instead to store our treasures in heaven. There is a very real battle between what we want now and what we want most, and we have a choice to make—will our hearts be set on NOW or LATER?
All of us get stuck with how we think, feel and respond to circumstances and people. In when the Bible gives us answers regarding patience, kindness and attitude the word for "encouragement" means towards circumstances and people! The epicenter for guarding your heart from getting jaded, cynical and pessimistic is to know the steps God gives us to soften our heart when it becomes hard. Listen in this week as Jess gives some amazing truths about how you may soften your heart and enjoy life more!!
Monitoring the physical condition of your heart is important, but what about the spiritual condition of your heart? In Matthew 15:10-20, Jesus teaches that it’s the words we say that reveals what is in our hearts. Monitoring the nature of your own words can actually help us monitor the condition of our hearts. When it comes to your heart, do you hear yourself?
Pastor Bill dives into the amazing promises of God and the incredible love that led Jesus to the cross. It's a journey of hope and assurance, knowing that even when we don't understand and our prayers seem unanswered, God is always faithful. Let's chat about what God has and hasn't promised, and discover how it impacts our lives in surprising ways.
For most of us our "To Do" list is always bigger than our "To Be" list. WHAT we do matters more to us than WHO we are... until a crisis enters our life and a flaw is exposed. The author of Hebrews in chapter 3 gives us three "Axioms" or rules of life to live by which surprisingly leads us to live to a bold and blessed life. Join us Sunday as we get challenged by these "axioms" and begin to measure from these truths where we are in our walk with God.
Hebrews 2:10-16
Title: The Restoration Work of Jesus, Part 2
The author of the book of Hebrews knew his Old Testament theology. He knew that starting with Adam and his decedents that we would all try rule and reign over some area of our life... seek to be the best spouse, or parent or excel in our place of employment. And while there have been moments... eventually we all struggle in on or more key areas of our life. This stuggle in life is one of the key reasons Jesus came... so that he could restore our ultimate calling and purpose of why God created us! The author of the Hebrews starts his book answering the question... if it's all about Jesus how can our relationship with him restore some broken areas in our life?

Passage: Hebrews 1:1-13
Title: The God of Angel Armies
If ever there was a greater being than man himself, it would be in the angelic world. All of our lives we have been facinated by super heroes, miracle stories, angel sitings and may even have dabbled in fortune telling and ouija boards. Most religions have an "angelic being" responding with greater revelation. It is natural for our human nature to long for something greater in the spiritual world. Come Sunday and learn why Just Jesus is all you need for your answers to the question regarding what the spiritual world is all about.
Often in life we get so busy, preoccupied and distracted that we forget what really matters in life and in the afterlife. Yet in those moments in solemn solitude when we pause and reflect what really makes a difference, we conclude it's Just Jesus. Why? Because is the ultimate model of how to live for today, how to live despite our sin and how to keep pressing on and be "successful at life" is Jesus... Just Jesus! Join us in this series in the book of Hebrews as we learn to live "Jesus Jesus" in the present so that He in turn will impact our future.
It's been said that "If Jesus isn’t the center of your world you will put something else in his place." The things that you replace Jesus with will let you down and not last forever. C.S. Lewis has said "The first step towards hell is pride. The first step towards Heaven is humility. Pride is the national religion of hell!" The problem with pride is that we just can't "sniff it out"! It's like bad breath, everyone know you've got a problem except for yourself! Come and learn how the pride that so easily slips into our lives can be eradicated by a simple humble heart of serving others!
As Christians it is so easy to follow exactly the way the world does things. Our kids even say "Well everyone else is doing it!" The iron is that often as children of God we say the same statement to God himself! We chase after power, pleasure, & popularity to fill a hole in our soul that we know will not last. In our world today, the most tempting solution for happiness comes in the form of money. We literally "buy into the lie" that the more we have the happier we will become. Listen & learn the dangers of this lie and discover the ironic truth of what will really make you fulfilled in life!
When we hear the word "idol," many of us think of a statue that one worships and/or reminds them of a great religious leader. In ancient times, Kings were thought of as gods and insisted their people make worship icons in their own image. Today our idols are more subtle. They are packaged in who we are, what we do, what we spend and the things that give us the greatest pleasure. The Bible surprisingly teaches that while God commands we don't make up statues of who he is he has provided an image of himself. We are that image! And when we are spirit filled, his glory shines for all to see.
Join Pastor Jess as he challenges us to dive deeper faster into new patterns that can help shape our future.
Anytime the rich & famous make their presence known to our town it's done with press releases, ads and lots of marketing through social media. Rarely do the rich and famous make appearances in a quiet normal way. How much more did the God of the universe deserve fanfare at His coming! But Christ didn’t arrive with a Kings entrance of pomp and circumstance. He didn’t demand an announcement for the whole world to hear, though He deserved it. Jesus arrived in the most humble way possible — as a baby. Come let us adore him on our Christmas Eve services.
The Brits say "Happy Christmas!," in Mexico you say "Feliz Navidad" & in America you say "Merry Christmas". And while this season definitely can bring happiness and a merry heart, what most people are really looking for is that sustained feeling of when hope and peace come together in you one's heart. EVERYONE calls that moment JOY!! Listen in as we share the secret of how we all might experience a "Joyful Christmas" this year.
Peace... seems like everyone wants it but nobody has it! For the most part, there is an absence of peace all around us. Uncertainty, financial fear & people hating on each other are everywhere as we look in the increasingly unpredictable society we live in. The amazing truth is that this angst has always existed in the world with seemingly no great answer... UNTIL... an angel appeared to a Savior and proclaimed, "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men!" Listen in as we learn why there is only one true Person that can really bring us peace.
On December 25th, we are reminded of the most important event in history, the birth of Jesus Christ. Even though society does its best to remove any reminders of His birthday. We instead, cloud them with traditions, parties, or gifts. We diminish the purpose of Christmas with fillers rather than fulfilling them with the most important point of it all, the birth of our Savior.
This Christmas, let’s shift our focus from the conventional standards of what we believe Christmas should be like, and refocus on the gift that was given to us, that will forever change the importance of This Christmas.
Any time the world is full of angst, war and ugliness, there is no shortage of sensationalism. From doomsday predictions to know it all “prophecy nerds” explaining their latest end time theories about the Antichrist, Bible prophecy is elevated. Even so, at times it seems there’s more confusion than clarity. But this is not the way God intended it. This week's message starts with how to interpret moves with looking at 5 prophecies specifically for Israel and ends with how this must bring changes in our own lives. Join us
No other nation or people group in world history has been persecuted, ethnically cleansed, discriminated against and maltreated "as much as" and "as long as" Israel and Jews have existed. In our culture today that have been maligned, ignored and protested against. But why? Why such Israel hate? Join us as we look at what the Bible has to say historically and doctrinally regarding how the Christian should treat Israel today.
Israel was miraculously voted in as a nation in 1948 by a majority vote in the U.N. While the stories of public outcry to help 250,000 Jews post-holocaust helped, what is even more stunning is prophecy that Isaiah writes about thousand of years before this inaugurating event. This Sunday come learn that God not only cares for a small little country in Palestine... but how he also cares for you as well.
Why does God want to bless Israel? What is His purpose in doing so? If God made a promise to Abraham and He is faithful to that promise, how does he intend to do this? When we do pray for Israel and the Middle East how do we pray for a group of people who largely hate each other? Join us this Sunday as we learn to unconditionally love, unconditionally pray and faithfully trust God who is spiritually in control despite the evil, hurt and pain that this world causes... and all through the power of prayer!
Why Israel? Why did God select a country no bigger than the size of New Hampshire to be His nation? Why do the for major religions of the world stake claim to Jerusalem? Why are all the most powerful nations in the world interested in a nation that is infinitely smaller? The answer to all these questions can only be found in the Bible. Come learn why you will never begin to untangle the “Middle East Mess” until you gain a Biblical, not a political, theology of Israel.
Every year we join together with hundreds of churches around the country and world in an effort to impact a difference on our local communities, to put our preverbal words into action and demonstrate Jesus calling in our lives to GIVE, to SERVE, and to LOVE. Be Rich is so much more than this annual reminder of our calling, Be Rich is a regular part of who we are as a church at New Community. We believe that God works most through our generosity. He works in and on our hearts, in our lives, and in the lives of those we are generous towards. That is why we commit to giving out to our community and other partners around the world each and every month of the year under the same calling of Be Rich... to Give, Serve, and Love.

Passage: 4:2-18
If someone were to summarize your life, character, and ministry, what might they say? In the final section of Paul’s letter to the Colossians, he does this very thing while writing from prison. In this study, we will examine our own lives to see what the Holy Spirit might have to say to us individually. We will also consider the people in our lives who have been a blessing and a help to us, to whom we may even choose to write a letter of gratitude.
Passage: 3:18-4:1
The greatest "cuss word" in our culture is the S word... as in SUBMIT! Nobody wants to follow anybody else. We are all "jockeying for positions of leadership and authority." But what happens when we get there? The key to leadership is not the power but in the ability to serve. Listen and learn how to be in authority like Jesus our Master, and under authority like Jesus our Servant.
Passage: Colossians 3:12-17
Being like Christ has this great (and true) assumption that it begins with our heart and our relationship with Jesus. Last week we learned that the "BEING" begins on the inside! But it doesn't stop there... If I’m going to Be Like Christ then I have to Love like Christ. The good news is that the apostle Paul doesn't leave us with just an idea... he gives us 5 practical steps to getting there! Listen and learn about the "Doing behind the Being!"
Passage: Colossians 3:1-11
The great frustration as a Christian isn’t that they know Jesus is in them. The great frustration is once I become a Christian what do I do about the sin thing? If Christ is in me… Why am I still blowing it!? What’s broke? Why do I still go back to the same sins I had before I knew Christ? What’s broken? The apostle Paul in chapter 3 gives us a great truth we often forget to help us encounter that "sin thing!"
Passage: Colossians 2:16-23
There are 3 counterfeits to Christianity that Paul not so tenderly blows up: lawmaking legalism, hippie mysticism, and minimalist asceticism. Too often, religious error takes itself too seriously, and God not seriously enough. Listen and learn why Jesus Christ as better than our silly pursuits at filling the gap between us and God with morality, spirituality, or suffering.
Passage: Colossians 2:8-15
Week's Blurb: Religion is seductive. There is a religion that meets the needs of everyone's sin driven appetites. Religion will appease to how you think. It will appease the dark side of your heart. It will suggest the things you want to do… are actually ok! You deserve them. And there are religions that will argue with sound values of why you can do what you want to do. Listen in and hear why the Apostle Paul warns us that is is equally import to know who Christ is NOT as it is to know who he is.
Passage: Colossians 2:1-7
Blurb: The most debated topic in the world is about Jesus Christ. Who he is and what he has done. Jesus is the #1 cuss word throughout the world, He's the #1 choice of cults, He's the #1 choice of misrepresentation. Our view Jesus today will impact our tomorrow… because of who he claimed to be and what he claimed to do! Listen in to this message and learn why all of Jesus is all I need.
Passage: Colossians 1:15-29
Blurb: The knowledge of God is like the ocean and our knowledge of God is like a Coke bottle filled with ocean water. Too ofter we ignore all the power of God at our disposal because we are content with our bottle being half full. But when we stop a begin to ponder the reason Jesus came to this earth was specially so that we could know God in a much greater way... transformation and revival begins! The apostle Paul reiterates this great mystery when he explains why we only benefit when we make Christ preeminent!
Periodically in life someone says something, writes something or in today word tweets something. In that moment, there is clear introspection of Who I am, Who I need to be, and Where I need to go. It's when we have those "In the Mirror" moments that God speaks. Join us Sunday as our Men's Pastor Travis Allen testifies to that moment in his life.
The hardest/easiest discipline mentioned in the Bible is prayer. It's essentially and simply "talking to God." And in that conversation comes an amazing humble step... "being second"... that is the secret to life and will unlock why God created you in the first place!
Passage: Colossians 1:9-12
Growing always takes following: Following those who teach us. Follow those who counsel us. Following those who have wisdom. The apostle Paul reminds us WHY the greatest leader to follow is Jesus. And when you do, HE reveals what's most important: Who we truly are in Christ and what it takes to become more like HIM!!
We invite Pastor Larry from New Salem Baptist Church in Tacoma to share some words with us.
We all have embarrassing moments we can laugh about—later. There are shameful moments that we would give anything to undo. But while our pasts remind us, they don’t have to define us.
Many times, our faith deteriorates as our circumstances deteriorate. When that happens, our faith is quickly overcome by fear, and the future looks dark. The apostle Peter experienced this, and he temporarily fled his faith in Jesus.
In Mark 10, Jesus addresses his disciples' desire for greatness and provides them with profound insights. He teaches that true greatness is not achieved through positions of power or authority, but rather through a servant-hearted attitude and a willingness to serve others. Jesus exemplifies this by emphasizing the importance of humility, as he states, "Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all." By shifting the disciples' understanding of greatness, Jesus challenges societal norms and encourages a radical transformation in their approach to leadership. He calls them to set aside self-centered ambitions and instead embrace a selfless love for others, thereby demonstrating the true nature of greatness in the Kingdom of God.
Fear invites us to follow the path of self-preservation. However, if we follow that path long enough, we will neither preserve nor have anything to show for our lives. Jesus began to challenge the thinking and actions of his disciples in a far remote city outside of Israel. He gave them (and us) a "riddle about life" that when we gain an understanding in the contrarian words he spoke we surprisingly gain the key to purpose of life itself!
From an early age, we learn quickly to look for loopholes in the rules. We try to figure out what we can get away with and still be okay. We tend to take this same mindset into our relationship with God, but it doesn’t work. When we opt for loopholes and workarounds, we find ourselves in a category no one wants to be in: hypocrites. Jesus calls us to move beyond loophole religion.
Whether it’s school, sports, or religion, when we focus only on the rules, it can be difficult to remember the overall purpose of something. Jesus reminds us that when we focus so much on the letter of the law, we may forget why the law was written in the first place.
Jesus ignored certain religious protocols. He claimed to have authority to forgive sin. He was uncomfortably comfortable with unrepentant sinners. In this message, we hear about three encounters that showed Jesus came to reverse the order of things.
Many times we read the Bible for application, inspiration, or direction. However, there are times when the author wants to simply point the reader to a big idea—an idea that fits together with God's grand story. In the gospel of Mark, he documents Peter's experience with Jesus that led Peter to believe in one big idea: the kingdom of God is near, and everyone is invited to participate.
No one believe anyone anymore. There is angst in politics, angst in candidates, angst at home, angst in our schools and even angst in discovering who we are. Easter is a great reminder that God came to give clarity through one amazing act of love. Join us on Easter as we learn about one who was like no other!
God created people before he issued his commandments. What a lesson to learn... that

Listen, watch, and learn some simple steps towards "Telling Yourself the Truth" and live in freedom from the things that can easily entangle us!
There are a lot of misconceptions in our world today what exactly is generosity. Some think of it a large gift other thinks of it as a quick response when a need arises. Listen and watch as we explore 4 myths of Generosity and 4 paths to take to truly live like Jesus and live generously!
Relationships go better when two people engage in a certain type of competition. Being competitive in most everything in a relationship can eventually hurt... but there is one area in which competition in a relationship actually makes it better! Join us and discover the secret to a long lasting relationship in marriage and dating.
No one said it was easy, but releasing someone from what they've done to you is your only way to freedom. While the road of blessing is most difficult, when we chose to take the path of forgiveness deliverance can lead to a life beyond measure!
Good decisions get us where we want to go, Godly decisions get us even farther in life. Wisdom is the bridge that fills the gaps from "Good to Great" (God decisions) when we're wondering what do to.
Nobody likes being told what to do, but when we don't want advice it is often when we need it most.
Your decisions aren't just about you. They impact people closest to you as well for either the better or the worse. Jesus taught us that living life is connected with God. And the wisdom that God gives us is practical!! Applied Biblical wisdom ensures we live with that in mind.
It's a new year and what if instead of stressing on new resolutions, you simply answered the question what kind of person do I want to become? This is where the teachings of Jesus gets interesting. Jesus gave his followers practices, rhythms, habits to follow that He knew would change them. What if we started the new year by considering our habits and imagining what could happen if we adopt some of the spiritual practices of Jesus?

Faith and Doubt is a fine line. It can be the same trial, the same circumstance, and the same message but the difference is found in the response. Come find out the secret of how to respond when a message from God comes your way!
Our actions rarely tell the whole story, but our reactions certainly do. They reflect our values, fears, and our faith. Over and Under Our reactions reflect our confidence or our lack of confidence in God.
Our actions rarely tell the whole story, but our reactions most certainly do. And Jesus instructs us to leverage them for good.
Being great at something doesn't make you a great person. The disciples wanted to be great, but they didn't understand what great meant. Jesus explains what "great" means and illustrates that with a powerful story.
EVERY year we kick off the Fall season with our North Point Partner friends in a campaign called Be Rich. This campaign comes from 1 Timothy 6:18 "Command them to do good, to BE RICH in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share.” This is the challenge we have set out to address where we're asking everyone to participate however they are able, whether $1 or $10,000 (or wherever you land). Our commitment is that 100% of the money that comes in goes right back out to our non-profit partners in the area.
God has a vision for each of us in life... it’s to be a blessing! And life becomes so much more meaningful when we realize that each of us are “Blessed to Be a Blessing!” As believers in Christ, we need to recognize our calling to use what God has given us to be a blessing to others! Listen in as we teach the three principles of what a true “blessed life” looks like.
"Begin with prayer." That sentence is simple for some and impossible for others. But the amazing thing about prayer is that it is really just having a conversation with God and then looking for the answer in your life. This reality is true with blessing our friends and neighbors as well... listen in and learn how!
Being B.L.E.S.S.ed and B.L.E.S.S.ing others is not immediately accessible, but it’s not out of reach. It’s a result. It’s sowing and reaping. Blessing is determined by outcome and purpose. Remember God’s plan for loving your neighbor and changing the world is through B.L.E.S.S.ing them not converting them!
The focus of blessing in Christianity is always about who, not what. Blessed people are at peace with God, others, and themselves. Since Jesus valued and prioritized peace with God, ourselves, and others, and since we want to be a blessing to our community, we need to learn how we might share the blessing of Jesus to our family, friends and community.
Jesus is greater than any power or any problem. There is nothing He can’t save you from and there is no place you can go that He is not there. And... Jesus will find you no matter where you go or the size of your problems. The biggest decision to help us in life is not HOW to overcome but rather WHO we choose to follow. Listen and learn why choosing to follow Jesus gives life more meaning.
By nature, we are all living for today. The ability to wait, plan or tolerate trials to gain greater character is really hard in our American culture. The book of James says, however, that patience is the key to character. The chapter even goes “back to the future” to gain a greater understanding of how to be patient with our money and with others. Join us in James chapter 5 as we learn the four major ways of gaining greater patience in our lives.
God wants to be in our lives. He wants to be more than a God that “just saves” us from our sins. He desires to be intimately involved in all we do… including our future plans. But to have this type of relationship with God, it requires some simple steps so that He can “draw near” to us. Listen and evaluate the four steps James lays out in his book on how to be closer to God… follow them and experience an amazing walk with God as he seeks to bless your life.
There is so much coming at the Christian in the world today. American Christianity might call it "temptations, trials, or weaknesses"... sometimes with the people we trust we may dive deeper into the addictions and habits that come our way. James the brother of Jesus talked more in tune with the rest of the disciples in suggesting some of our struggles with has to do with "spiritual battles." Come discover how he suggests we might battle against the spiritual warfare that comes our way.
God highlights many things in our lives… especially through the work of the Holy Spirit. But he also uses the powerful creative writing of the authors of the New Testament. Listen in as the brother of Jesus encourages us to grow in the gentle wisdom from God and why it’s such an important part of his book in helping us overcome the trials of life.
Mike Silva, a man that reaches out into the Spanish speaking world to share the good news of Jesus, he brings his wisdom and gift to share with us. He reminds us that God is FAR greater than we imagine.
Words are powerful. They can beat us down and lift us up. They wound and they heal. And the right words at the right time can be exactly what we need to hear—or what we need to say. Join us in the book of James as he teaches us in chapter 3… how to tame our tongue!
Revival is an old word gone "good!" It's a reminder to the Christ follower why we live, how we should live and how as brothers & sisters of Jesus Christ we should follow the "Royal Rule" to love one another and the community around us. The book of James in chapter 2 outlines 6 simple steps in bringing revival back into our hearts.
When Jesus walked the earth, he challenged his disciples with this word called “Love.” But the kind of love Jesus talked about was costly and frankly challenging. It requires us to look deep into our lives to see where we need to grow. Jesus’ younger brother James took this to heart and had much to say about this “golden rule” called love.
We're blessed to live in a nation of laws. But what do we do when our rights clash with the rights of others? The answer is surprising.
We have all been around a Christ follower who was just different than most Christians. They seemed like they knew God and didn't just know about Him. Essentially we conclude that they hear to voice of God as if he were speaking to them! James tells us in his book that everyone can be this way. Everyone can have the same access to hearing from God as these special people in our lives. Listen and learn about the 5 simple steps of how we all can hear the voice of God.
What if life could be more than becoming better but be more about becoming greater? What would that kind of change look like? Jesus re-calibrates what greatness looks like and points us in that direction.
In our culture today we all have something to say, we all have an opinion, we all have a post… everybody is talking but nobody’s listening! The book of James redefines leadership. The major premise of the book is that leader’s listen! Listen in as we learn from James how to listen better!
All our lives we have been told to be wise in the way we act. Our parents would teach us wisdom when it comes to dating, safety, education and even the strategies of baseball. But what exactly is wisdom? Where does it come from? What does it look like? Join us in the book of James chapter 1 as we look at exactly what God's wisdom looks like.
What do you have to rely on when life gets tough? The book of James in the Bible encourages us all that there is something guaranteed to hold us up when things become uncertain: our faith in Jesus. Walk through with us as we dive deeper into a faith that actually works when life doesn't!
How do ordinary people (like all of us) do the extraordinary? The apostle Paul tells us the secret is about our extraordinary God & to be like him. Romans 12 gives 5 great steps that help us find our great purpose in life.
Your name is not just something people call you—it becomes part of who you are. It isn’t just a label; it’s an identity. What do you think people think of when they hear your name? Maybe they think of the different roles you play (mom, dad, sibling, boss) or words that describe you in those roles (great, kind, intentional). How do we become known for those things? It takes work, and it takes people.
We were not meant to do life alone. When life comes at us, we need people to cheer us on, to lend a hand, or simply to be around. In good times and bad, we find we are better together.
The story of Easter is a beautiful story of hope, betrayal, tragedy and triumph. It’s about a God who loves us so much that he gave us his Son to be mocked, ridiculed, and killed by the very people he came to save. This is more than a story from history. It’s our story of redemption.
Busy. We are a busy bunch of people. In fact, when people ask us how we’re doing, we often answer with “busy.” We sleep less. We are more distracted. And we are tired, overworked, anxious, and stressed. What if there was a way to change that? What if there was a way to press pause and find the rest we need?

Peace is something we all desire. We all want more of it. But what exactly is it? And how do we get it?
Most of the emotional stuff we cover up and refuse to deal with revolves around loss. We all struggle with expectations that went unmet, goals we failed to achieve, or dreams that were broken. How we handle our loss matters. It impacts the quality of our lives. If we bury those negative emotions alive, they will come back to haunt us . . . and the people we love.
Most of us tend to neglect positive habits or behaviors that will strengthen our emotional health. That’s because it’s a lot easier—at least in the short-term—to pretend everything is okay than to make the effort to establish new, healthy habits. But when we avoid change, we’re not the only ones who suffer. The unhealthy emotions and behaviors we sow now are eventually reaped by the people we love most.
Many of us learned from an early age to hide what we were feeling from other people. We got the message that showing our emotions made us look weak. In time, we became so skilled at hiding what we feel, we even learned to hide our emotions from ourselves. But hiding isn’t a sign of courage or strength. If we want to grow, we have to stop saying, “It’s
fine,” and start being honest—with ourselves and others—about what’s going on inside.
Emotional health begins by recognizing what I’m feeling and then knowing what to do with that feeling. Unfortunately, when crisis hits, loss happens or the unthinkable a war occurs on an innocent nation often times we just don’t know what to feel nor what to do. Whether it is a personal crisis, a pandemic, or an invasion of war, God has equipped the believer to share the answer for the hope that is in them.
For Better or Worse | Part 2
What happens when I don’t “feel” the love anymore? Where does love come from?
First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes... sometimes pain, hurt and even a loss through separation or divorce. Marriage is not about one spouse dominating or demanding but it is all about oneness through understanding the roles God has given husband and wife. Come and listen about how God designed marriage and how applying one simple truth will bring a healthier marriage for all.
There's a question you can ask yourself that will bring inescapable clarity to just about every relational decision you'll bump up against. But a word of warning: it's not for the faint of heart.
It's human nature to snuggle up to the edge of irresponsibility or disaster and stay there as long as possible. But instead of wondering how close we can get before crossing the line, we need to ask ourselves perhaps the most important question we can ever ask.
Sometimes an option we're considering creates tension inside of us. When that happens, it can be tempting to ignore the discomfort or brush by it. But instead of doing that, we need to pay close attention to it.
Your life is more than random, disconnected events. It's a story being written. Whether it's a thoughtful response or an emotionally fueled reaction, we write the stories of our lives one decision at a time.
The easiest person to deceive is the person in the mirror. But when we do the hard work of being honest with ourselves, we’re on our way to not selling ourselves on a potential regret. The secret is learning how to ask the right questions that will lead us to the kind of integrity that we all need.
Direction not intention leads to our destination. Come hear a story from the book of Proverbs on the impact decisions have on our path in every aspect of life.
The prophets of the Old Testament predicted the coming of Jesus with all kinds of descriptions of hope. Isaiah said in best in Isaiah 6:8 that the Messiah (Jesus) would be our "Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace." This prophecy was fulfilled when an angel surprised Joseph and told the world that this Messiahs name would be Jesus!
We are all born longing for father figures to be in our life. Fathers that won't disappoint, fathers who will be there for us, fathers who will say wise things. For many that type of father just didn't exist... Isaiah calls Jesus "The Everlasting Father." This doesn't mean he switched places with God the Father; rather we are going to learn that in his relationship to us Jesus would be like the father we've always longed for. Listen & learn what that father looks like!
We all need a power that is beyond ourselves, and we need that power to do something useful and helpful for ourselves and others. Like a newborn child, we all are dependent in this life for a power source outside ourselves. The most important power needed today is the power of the Mighty God. He has the power to save, to lead, to keep, and to finally take us home to live with Him. Christ is the Mighty God, but His power is not simply for the purpose of flexing His muscles to show the universe how strong He is. He has purpose in His power. It is His power that can meet our deepest needs.
The foundational gift that anyone can receive is wise advice. We can all point to moments in our life that someone gave us clear direction, or wise advice, or said something that moved us from our weakness and made it a strength. Many years ago the prophet Isaiah gave the foundational nickname for Jesus as "Wonderful Counselor." Listen and learn why Jesus Christ is able to give us the needed direction for your life as well.
There is more to your circumstances than meets the eye. Your current circumstances are a chapter. They are not the full story.
While we don't always choose our circumstances, we do have the ability to choose our responses. But the response that has the potential to reverse the natural course of things isn't natural at all.
For many of us, there's something we wish we'd been doing all along to prepare for what is happening now.
Whatever lessons we’re learning, now is the time to start putting them into practice.
Be Rich is an annual generosity campaign that mobilizes the church to extraordinary generosity and selfless service. Wrinkle-free days usually don’t create great faith, because we don’t know what we actually believe until
what we claim to believe is tested. Those unexpected things life throws our way can end up being pivotal
circumstances in our faith journeys.
Faith Full | Part 6
There is no progress without discipline. And many times, what begins as an 'ought to' may become a 'want to'.
Faith Full | Part 5
Sometimes it seems God drops someone into our lives at just the right time. The defining moments and seasons of our lives usually revolve around those providential relationships.
Nothing causes us to depend on God more than pushing through our inadequacies to help other people.
When we serve in a ministry we take personally, we experience God’s power and faithfulness.
It’s one thing to believe and enjoy practical teaching. But gaining knowledge is not enough to grow our faith —applying it is.
We’ve all heard stories of people—or we know people—who have what appears to be unshakable faith. They have a confidence in God that informs what they do. Where does faith like that come from?
Faith-Full - Part 1
Why at times was Jesus leery of crowds that followed him? The answer might surprise you and will certainly challenge you. If you missed service today, don't miss this message from Pastor Bill.
You can’t buy or outsource Christlikeness. I don’t know how to initiate a discipleship relationship. I don’t know how to ask someone to disciple me. The bottom Line is that it’s who you are with that helps you grow. Our spiritual maturity is tied to our obedience.
God had an amazing plan before the beginning of time. He decided to share the responsibility in ruling his kingdom. The only catch is that we act like him! Come discover the four reasons why doing things together make a better you!
As adults we like to pretend it is just the middle schoolers who are governed by peer pressure. We may be more sophisticated, but we all have wondered who else is going to the event before we go. We care deeply about what others care about. Instead of fighting this, what if this very fact of our created humanity is what Jesus saw and was speaking directly to through the proverbs.
In a way, life is a series of games, and we all prefer to win. We certainly don’t want to lose the
dating game, marriage game, career game, or car game. So how do we win these games? The
apostle Paul has an interesting suggestion that helps us win the most important game within all
the games.
In many circles, prayer is some kind of empty meditation or positive thoughts or wishful thinking. It’s akin to wishing upon a star or just hoping for the best. Often, it’s us bartering with God, saying, “I promise I’ll do this if you just give me that.” But prayer is not a bargaining chip, nor a last-ditch effort for change, nor a cold peaceful meditation where we just empty our minds. In prayer, we fill our minds with the truth of the personal nature of God. It is an active way we take part in warring against sin in our lives and entrusting ourselves to God who is near to us.
What is the goal of Christianity? Why do we go to church? Or Join small groups? Why listen, trust and obey advice in the Bible? In Philippians 3 Paul answers the "Why" and explains how this answer is life changing!
What is the goal of Christianity? Why do we go to church? Or Join small groups? Why listen, trust and obey advice in the Bible? In Philippians 3 Paul answers the "Why" and explains through his life how it centers around the purpose of life!
We all need just two good friends. One with seasoned wisdom from a life well lived and the other with zealous passion for a life to come. One to show us the way and the other to hand off the work we are doing. Paul's wisdom was that he was ready to live for today yet also ready for the day God would call him home. Are we?
We're taking a break from our series No Matter What for this special July 4th message from Pastor Bill where he asks the question: "Can the church bridge the divide when compassion, politics, and culture collide?" We say yes.
The secret to happiness in life is to be like Christ. In the 90’s we even made bracelets to remind us of our calling as Christians. But we discovered with bracelets on or off... being like Christ is no easy task! But what if we were approaching this Christian thing all wrong? What if being like Christ had more to do with what he is doing and less to do with what we are doing?!
Two thousand years ago Jesus lived and walked upon the earth. Despite the fact that he was the most powerful person in the universe, he never played the God card and He never asserted the rights that were inherently his. Instead he did something completely different, and in doing so left us the ultimate example of what powerful people are to do with their power.
Too often we think of the Godhead only in abstract terms. Christians believe in the Trinity but it’s also pretty confusing! But in the “Greatest Chapter in the Bible” Paul takes advantage of describing how the amazing trio work together and how they want us to join their work no matter where we are… the marketplace, our neighborhood and in our community.
Growing up when someone important came to your house it’s likely that your parents would tell you to behave yourselves! What they meant was to adhere to the family values that they taught you. The church has “family values” as well... the apostle Paul reminds the Philippian believers of the “Fav Four” values that always work. The cool part is when we follow them unity, in God’s house or your house follows as well!
In our world today we are all trying to extend our life with health, dieting and vaccines. Everyone is working on "how not to die." The problem is that the outcome of a prolonged life doesn't answer the question of how to live a purposed life. Join us as we listen to the apostle Paul clarify just what it takes to live life with focus, reward and purpose!
The strangest thing about joy is that you can be under the gravest circumstance like the apostle Paul and still have a joyful presence about you. How can this be? Paul begins his letter to the church in Philippi by teaching them the simple “ABC’s” of having and spreading joy. The answers while not complex will change your perspective on life and living!
The most mature people we encounter in life usually have what King David described in Psalm 23 as "a peace that surpasses all understanding!" That foundation of peace leads to an amazing feeling of contentment that New Testament authors describe in a 3 letter word: JOY! It's the confidence that "No Matter What" happens God is in control. Join us as we study the book of Philippians and discover how you can have joy despite the circumstances that surround you.

Our hope is God’s love for us. What or whom you are hoping in determines your ability to maintain hope.
Uncertainty is God’s favorite environment. It seems that’s when he gets the most accomplished. When life is uncertain, God is not. He’s still got the whole world in his hands. Pray until the peace comes.

We all are leaders. How do we help influence people to take Next Steps toward rebuilding their lives in the times we live in. The surprising answer is tucked away in an Old Testament Book called Nehemiah.
Pastor Ethan Mitchell breaks down his message from Sunday about pride as we wrap our Redo series.
It’s easy to want the outcomes that make our lives better, but it’s hard to make some of the decisions that will get us there. Whether it’s pride, lack of follow-through, or failing to trust the process, the change you need could come down to one word.
There is more to your circumstances than meets the eye. Your current circumstances are a chapter. They are not the full story.
Don’t just get through it; be better for it. Pain without gain is a shame. We’re no better than our response, but our response makes it better. Our response directs the course of things. Our response determines our outcomes. Our response is transformative
A new normal is coming. If we're wise, we'll reflect on what we've learned and what we want to carry forward. After all, pain without any gain is a shame.
We’ve all had years in which we wish we could just push the “redo” button. But rarely, if ever, in our lifetime has the whole world felt this way. 2020 was hard, rough, painful, and frankly unpredictable. But the good news of 2021 is...
One of the most famous Christmas stories never happened until after Christmas was over! The wise men likely came after Jesus was born but the lesson is valuable no matter what time of the year it is! What do you give the God who has everything?
Christmas bring out the pinnacle of our emotions. Joy, love and family come to mind... but it also brings out the extremes of our anxiety as well.
We all get lost along the way. Even GPS makes mistakes! But remember in the midst of the worst environment, God is at his best.
The Christmas story doesn’t begin with two folks who can’t find a place to have their baby. It actually begins with two folks who are pretty sure they can’t have a baby. God is active. God is interested...

What is the purpose of Power? If we accept that God has loaned us each a measure of power in this life, then what does he want us to do with it? Join Pastor Bill to learn more about this and how you can SERVE in your community.
Every year we join together with hundreds of churches around the country and world in an effort to impact a difference on our local communities, to put our preverbal words into action and demonstrate Jesus calling in our lives to GIVE, to SERVE, and LOVE.
We avoid things we don’t like. But sometimes things come our way that we can’t avoid. When our circumstances deteriorate, what do we do when there’s nothing we can do?
There is an assumption that good things happen to good people, and bad things happen to sinners. But clinging to that myth will cause your faith to eventually be ground into dust.
Have you ever volunteered to do something for which you felt unqualified? If so, then you already know what an experience like that can do for your faith. One of the primary ways God grows our faith is through personal ministry.
It's one thing to know a lot about the Bible and another thing to live out what it teaches. That's why the Christian life isn't just about knowledge. It's when our acts of faith intersect with God's faithfulness that our faith grows.
Imagine what it would be like to have the kind of "ALL IN" faith that you trust God with everything? In this 6 week series, we will explore five things God uses for us to grow our faith and be an "all in" follower of Jesus.
Imagine how differently you would respond to difficulties, temptations, and even good things if you knew with certainty that God was in all of it and was planning to leverage it for good.
It's amazing what the Spirit can do in our life... Hebrews 11 says that He can turn our "weakness into strength." This is certainly the story of Peter.
The early church as we are in our country faced lots of angst and disagreement. So... when differences happen, when disputes occur how do you avoid being defensive yet communicate in love? Peter models how to diffuse conflict so well in Acts 11.
Jesus said that by trusting in him we would have life in abundance! He was talking about why we are really here and what ultimately fulfills our lives.
From information to encounter. See how God can use you and the story for His glory! There’s power in His name!
We learn how to lead in life from mentors, parents, grandparents, and amazing bosses over us. Yet oftentimes in life the more powerful lessons come from the "how not to do it" file!
It's been said that if you don't know why things are going well in your business that you are one dumb decision away from messing it all up! This is true for our spiritual life as well.
Aftermath | Our country loves “God phrases” like “God bless America”, “Praying for you” and “God bless you” after we sneeze… but what seems to not so PC anymore is mentioning the name of Jesus.
In the middle of unrest there is lots we can do to help, to change, and even to confess. But there is one tool that only a Spirit-filled believer can do and Jesus says we should do it first!
In light of recent events and the ongoing movement and demonstrations, Pastor Bill sits down with Pastor Lonnie to have a real conversation about how we can keep a gospel centered heart in our conversations.
Throughout American history, the church has had pockets when the “real” suddenly became “ideal.” There have been moments that the felt presence of the Lord was so strong… it changed the inside of the church.
To this day Christians are still asking questions about the Holy Spirit’s involvement in their lives. Essentially the ultimate question was very same question the city of Jerusalem was asking upon the Holy Spirit’s arrival in Acts: What does this mean?

Jesus’ resurrection launched a series of events that introduced the world to a new way of life, thinking and purpose that radically changed the lives of his followers.

Following Jesus’ crucifixion, his followers expected what anyone expects after someone dies: that they would remain that way. But one of Jesus’s followers, John, gave an eyewitness account that summarized the main event surrounding Christianity.
At different points in our lives, many of us wonder why a good God would allow bad things to happen. And without a clear response, that dilemma could cause us to question God’s existence altogether.
There are many products we buy, use, and put our confidence in without having all the information or fully understanding how they work. In the Gospel of John, we see a man begin to follow Jesus based on limited information.

Perhaps one of the most famous signs performed by Jesus was feeding over 5000+ people with five loaves of bread and two fish. Those that followed Jesus thought he was finally getting to the point of what he could do for them.
Just outside of Jerusalem, Jesus performed a miracle that changed a man’s life forever. For 38 years, this man was unable to walk. But when Jesus said, “Get up,” the man was healed.
Is it possible to live a fearless life or just a life with less fear? Hear Pastor Bill share what Jesus taught about fear that can move you from panic to peace.
In order to demonstrate who he was, Jesus performed a number of miracles—which the apostle John referred to as “signs.” The first of those signs was at a joyous occasion where Jesus turned water into wine. The second sign was...
Beginning with first-century followers of Jesus, trusting in Jesus has been a response to evidence—not simply in hoping something is true. The gospel writer John referred to the miracles of Jesus as signs that give evidence of who Jesus was.
Whether it’s sitting next to a new friend at lunch, going to a birthday party, or watching a game at someone’s house, all of us have benefited from someone inviting us to something. But there’s an invitation that may change someone’s life forever.
Vision is a “hot” word in modern American vernacular. It essentially defines the success of the life and/or institution one is a part of. Every American is called to think through vision for their life, their business and for Christians... their church!
God’s greatest work is through ordinary people who have ordinary jobs, ordinary lives and ordinary families. Not only that... but also fail a lot!
We all believe exercise is good for us, but we don’t always head to the gym or go on a run. But to get in shape we have to exercise. We have to get off the couch and do it. And, isn’t it easier when we have someone to keep us accountable?
What if this year was not just about becoming better, but about becoming greater? What would that kind of change look like? Jesus re-calibrates what greatness looks like and points us in that direction.
Most of us want this year to be better. But “better” requires a bit of honest and awkward evaluation. So what are you holding onto that’s holding you back? Maybe it’s time to let go of the banana and run away!
Many of us want this year to be better than last year. We start off with good intentions by making a commitment to improve but inevitably end up not following through. A perfect year may be impossible. But a better year is possible.
People who were not like Jesus liked Jesus, and he liked them back. Since the church is the body of Christ, people should be drawn to Jesus's followers. Even if they don’t agree with the message of the church, they should like the church. So, how?
Most people associate Christianity with religious living... an attempt to live a life filled with godly morals and virtues. Fortunately, Christmas reminds us that Christianity is not as much about what we do as it is about what has been done for us.
Grace... It’s the undeserved, unearned, unearnable favor that Jesus came to offer us. So why wouldn’t we want Christianity to be true? And where should you start if it’s a word that was never part of the equation for you?
While Jesus is the Light... we are actually the means by which that light shines. When we trust in Jesus, trust and God and listen to the Holy Spirit our ability to shine the Light (Jesus) is exponential in our lives.
There is an unsettling solution for just about everything, and we can sum it up in one word — grace. It’s the undeserved, unearned, unearnable favor that Jesus came to offer us. So why wouldn’t we want Christianity to be true?
We all want more. Even though we’re thankful for what we have, something inside us wants a little more from life. Believe it or not, there is a path that can lead us to the more we are looking for.
Maybe the most simple thing we’ve ever learned about God is also the most complex : God is love. It’s a hard truth for us to understand because we’re influenced by so many other views of him. So how does it work exactly?
Volunteering makes a difference. When you serve with a nonprofit, you help them accomplish more as well as communicate value and dignity to those they serve. That’s why we want to give you an opportunity to do more and give more.
1 Timothy 6:17–18: “Command those who are rich in this present world . . . to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share.”
The best way to predict your future is to pay attention to where you’re headed. But sometimes it’s easy to get distracted by what’s on the path.
We all start out life with great intentions. But our intentions aren’t good indicators of our destinations. That’s why we all need to follow someone we trust. Someone who can make us better at life. If not Jesus, then who? If not Christianity, then what?
If there’s a disconnect between what you hope to be true in the future and the direction you’re headed now, maybe it’s time to take a closer look at your path. Our direction, not our intention, will determine our destination.
We’re all going to end up somewhere in life, but often there’s a disconnect between where we want to end up and the path we choose. So how can we avoid choosing a path that’s guaranteed to get us where we don’t want to be?
In being a Christian... Jesus isn’t looking for us to make right statements but rather looking for us to just take the next step. We value “Easy over Difficult,” because we believe God wanted to make our path to follow him as easy as possible.
The "Seattle Freeze" is real! How did we get there and how do we thaw to become real again? Only one thing can break through the loneliness, isolation and individualism that so dominates our region... community!
We are called to be "doers of the word" but reality we like to be "hearers" instead! We've been raised in an "arm chair quarterbacking" culture where learning is enough. Jesus actually had a contrarian opinion... do something!
Jesus could have been the greatest religious guy ever but instead he was the greatest teacher of relationships ever. Simply stated, Jesus prioritized people over a religious "to do" list. Here at New Community we want to do the same!
For early Christians it seemed like they were able to put Jesus was over self. How could this be when they didn’t see the promises of God yet fulfilled? How can we have the kind of faith that keeps Jesus over our own self interest.
A hero doesn’t let his or her fear stand in the way of saving the day. One of the things we most admire about heroes is their willingness to sacrifice on behalf of others.
A hero sees what everyone sees, but is not content to do what everyone does. A hero saves the day. Even though that may sound lofty and unattainable, hero status is accessible to all of us.
A hero saves the day. If you believe Hollywood, a hero saves the planet. That makes heroism seem inaccessible to most of us. But with a single question, Jesus made hero status available to us all.
Faster than a speeding bullet! More powerful than a locomotive! There’s something about hero blockbusters in the summertime. We can’t get enough of them. But what does it look like to be a hero in real life?
In the moments when you "have 'em right where you want 'em", what we say will say as much about us as anything else.
Me and My Big Mouth Pt3 - Our big mouths can be destructive, but they also have the power to build others up. What we say can impact the quality, and even the direction, of the lives of the people around us. How can we use this power for good?
Like a small spark that has the potential to scorch an entire green forest, our tongues are untamable, with the power to control our whole bodies. We have a tool that can be used to build up those around us or tear them down in just a few words.
Open mouth . . . insert foot. Don’t we all wish we could avoid that scenario? Our words can get us into all kinds of trouble. But maybe we can learn to keep our big mouths in check.
We cannot control what difficulties may come our way. But we can control what we choose to believe is true about us.
Our behavior doesn’t determine or shape God’s love for us. He is already pleased with who we are because we are his. As we believe this and act out of it, what we do and how we see ourselves and others changes.
We all want affirmation from our parents. Some of us received it and some of us didn’t. But we often go looking for it in all the wrong places. Receiving a blessing from our Heavenly Father could change everything.
Summer is the perfect time to rest, relax, and recharge, not just physically, but spiritually. Join us for “Best Summer Ever” where we will be looking at how to make this summer season count.
We don’t always get what we want, regardless of planning, effort, or our own merit. The greener grass is possible, but you can’t get there on your own. Shift your focus to the One who loves you and gave himself up for you.
The greener grass is possible, but you can’t get there on your own. God wants to lead you to the greener grass, but you have to choose to follow.
I'm easy to keep up with, but I’m difficult to catch up with. Keep up or you’ll be playing catch up. Keep up with me and I’ll keep up with you.
I'm easy to keep up with, but I’m difficult to catch up with. Keep up or you’ll be playing catch up. Keep up with me and I’ll keep up with you.
Are we mastering our money or being mastered by it? Maybe it’s time to flip the script. Instead of striving to have enough money to satisfy a me-first appetite, Jesus encouraged his listeners to have an others-first approach.
If our money could talk, what would it tell us? You might be shocked to find out that what our money would say is pretty close to what Jesus did say.
At Passover, Jesus gathered his followers and spelled out a new relational arrangement between God and humankind: “As I have loved you, so you must love one another.” But Jesus wasn’t celebratory. He seemed troubled.
Jesus didn’t come to initiate Judaism 2.0. He came to offer something entirely new to the world: a new covenant that would forever change humankind’s relationship with God.
The words “unlimited” and “unconditional” make us suspicious. That suspicion extends to our relationship with God. Unconditional love? Unlimited forgiveness? There must be a catch. But what if there isn’t?
Jesus introduced the most powerful, transformational, and inspirational leadership principle on the planet. You can lead without it, but you won’t be a leader worth following unless you embrace it.
Jesus claimed to be greater than the temple. He made the temple obsolete. Most of his followers assumed his end game was to declare himself king.
We like to be right we like to be just, but are we merciful? The only way to become a merciful person is to fully accept the mercy that is available to you and to me.
Something in us is tempted to believe God loves his law more than his people. We’re tempted to prioritize rules over people
Jesus wasn’t an extension of the old religion. He came to introduce something brand new.
When you read the Gospels, two things are abundantly clear. Being a sinner doesn’t disqualify you from following Jesus. And being an unbeliever doesn’t disqualify you from following Jesus.
“Might makes right” is the default setting for the world. While temptation has all kinds of "flavors" for all of us. The most "tempting" temptation is power.
From the angel’s announcement to Mary that she would give birth to a son whose "kingdom would never end," it was clear: Jesus would do something new for the world.
The Bible did not create Christianity. Christianity is the result of an event (the resurrection) that created a movement (the church) that produced sacred and reliable texts that were collected and bound into a book (the Bible).
The Old Testament chronicles God’s redemptive, sequential activity in history. It’s a fabulous, gritty, epic history of the Hebrew people in which, over and over, Israel is reminded that they are a divine means to an end.
Most of us know some Bible stories, but very few of us know the story of the Bible. And it may be surprising to discover it’s a story that doesn’t actually begin in the beginning.
In order to achieve our goals, we have to be willing to change. Don’t get so caught up in goals and New Years resolutions that we lose focus of Jesus.
We all wonder. When we fix our eyes somewhere other than on God, wonder leads to wander. If you’ve wandered from the faith or are looking for the door, it’s not because of Jesus
We wonder because our frame of reference doesn’t provide us with all of the answers. Every version of religion works for children. But then life happens.
We wonder because our frames of reference don’t provide us with all of the answers. As your frame of reference changes or expands, some mysteries are solved. Some remain mysterious. So what do you do with the big mysteries in life?
Gratitude: it’s not enough to feel it. We’ve got to express it because unexpressed gratitude communicates ingratitude. We need to become returners, willing to go back to those who enabled us to move forward to begin with.
Mike Silva of MSI shares with us what it looks like to LOVE one another. How we best love when we Honor, Encourage, Share, Serve, and Bear another's burdens. Check out this message and then put LOVE into action!
Through Be Rich, we have the opportunity to help amazing nonprofits in our community as they serve our struggling friends and neighbors. The work they do makes a difference, and we get to come alongside them and make an even bigger difference together.
“Command them to do good, to BE RICH in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share.” – 1 Timothy 6:18
Look ahead and embrace what you see. Respond to it. It’s the only way to avoid trouble. If you can see a new season ahead, now is the time to take refuge in your heavenly Father. Now is better than later. Now will make later better.

Arriving at our new destinations requires change. For most of us, change creates stress. Just like when we travel on a boat, plane, or in a car, traveling through life can give us motion sickness. We’re knocked off balance.
Transitions can be both exciting and stressful. That’s because we can’t see into the future. We can’t tell what comes next. But what if there was a way to prepare for the next season?
Jesus has something to say everyday but it is only when we realize he is here that we can hear what he says.
It’s vital to erect guardrails around our hearts. An unguarded heart can overpower our most guarded behavior.
When it comes to our finances, it’s easy to cross the line into the danger zone. That’s why it’s essential to establish guardrails against greed.
If there’s one area in which personal guardrails are most needed but also most resisted, it’s in our relationships.
