The Gargoyle King has been unmasked and so has the Black Hood…again. Nomi and Jess had some big predictions this season and many of them actually panned out. SPOILERS AHEAD.

Female villain – check and check. Penelope Blossom may not have been wearing the Gargoyle mask, but she was orchestrating the madness.
Chic Cooper would return – Chic weirdo Cooper IS the Gargoyle King. Poor actor didn’t get much face time on the show – but maybe next season? We got this prediction right… but we didn’t guess the red hair.
Alice Cooper is undercover in The Farm – we abandoned this early on theory but we thought she might be doing a story on The Farm for an investigative piece for her paper. We were half right there. Turns out, mama’s talkin’ to the FBI! But at the risk of her daughter’s safety? tsk tsk. Convincing performance, though, Alice. Leonardo DiCaprio in The Departed level convincing. Minus the weird Boston accent.
Charles Cooper would be revealed – FINALLY. Pretty much every episode this season we have wondered when he would appear. His character’s identity seemed to be the loose string from Season 2, as well as what happened to the imposter, Chic. Charles, who is both Betty and Jughead’s half brother, has been working with the FBI using Alice as an informant on the happenings of The Farm. He’s now recruiting Jughead and Betty for some help finding where the Farmies went to. I like how they set up season 4 plot with this. Looks like we’ll see more of Charles’ and Edgar’s lovely faces next year. And Evelyn. Meh.
Jason Blossom will be back – No one dies in soap operas. And Riverdale, my friends, is one heck of a soap opera. Jason is back as either or a corpse or a zombie…? TBD.

New plotlines for Season 4 are already in motion – the biggest being the flash forward to spring break senior year where a blood-covered Betty, Veronica and Archie are burning their clothes and Jughead’s hat, vowing never to speak of what just happened. BUT WHAT JUST HAPPENED!?!? We have not yet learned how the writers will write Luke Perry off the show. I’m glad they didn’t rush this plot point. Hiram is framing Hermione and Veronica from inside the jailhouse. Archie will continue the boxing gig sigh (we’re a little tired of the boxing TBH). Jughead and Betty are the new gumshoes for their half brother as they hunt down The Farm. Is Hal Cooper really dead? Is Jason Blossom alive-ish? Will we continue past grade school with the adventures in Riverdale? I guess we have a whole summer to wonder.

Chapter 54 of Riverdale was especially poignant in that it was Luke Perry’s last appearance as Fred Andrews before his death due to a stroke in March. We were left with a final father-son scene between his character and Archie but have not yet learned how his character will be written off the show. SPOILERS Our bet is that Fred is a casualty of the prison bus crash Veronica mentions at the end of the episode. We’re left thinking that Hal Cooper has met his fate…but no one ever REALLY dies in Riverdale.

Episode spoiler highlights:

-Paging Mrs. Evernever…no, the other one. That’s right, Edgar has got himself a little harem and Evelyn is actually GASP his 27 year old wife. Sorry Alice, you’ll have to share.

-TONI WHYYYY! Toni succumbs to the creepy, white-clad ways of The Farm.

-Keepin’ up with the Joneses – Mama Jones is gonna take her biz out of town, but Jughead, Sheriff FP and Jellybean will be sticking around the ‘dale. Will FP lose his title? Is Jellybean more involved in the Gargoyles Gang than it may appear? And will Jughead finally figure out the Gargoyle King’s true identity? Of course he will. That’s his m.o.

-Hiram totes caused that bus crash. Totes. But, if our predictions are correct and that is Fred Andrews’ demise, Archie will reignite his hatred toward Papa Lodge.

Spoilers After last week’s musical number, Riverdale is back on track pushing its multiple lingering plotlines forward. We are introduced to the charismatic, yet creepy, Farm leader, Edgar Evernever. Cheryl goes undercover to help Betty recover Cooper family secrets…but she quickly succumbs to the brainwashing arms of the farm. Cheryl tells Betty that she’s been able to see her dead twin, Jason, at The Farm. Turns out, the cult has somehow been conjuring the dead relatives of its members for a little family bonding time. Are we talking hallucinations here? How is Mrs Cooper seeing Charles… and wait, we thought he was still alive?

Archie and Veronica catch wind that Hiram’s private prison will soon open and make a play to set Archie’s fight club friends free before they get sucked back into a life of forced boxing. They blackmail Governor Dooley into pardoning Mad Dog and Baby Teeth among others. We’re glad to see Mad Dog have more of an integral role in the show going forward, hopefully. But he finds out that home has become a Fizzle Rocks drug den.

Archie and Jughead enlist the newly trained, junior deputy Serpents, to help raid what they believe is a drug lab of bad momma Gladys’. A Daredevil-style, hallway fight scene ensues – I’ll take a well coordinated battle over a musical number any day. Sorry.

With a Lodge parent divorce pending, Veronica throws out some Sopranos (suggesting they wouldn’t be the first mob boss to go to therapy) and Godfather (dead animal delivery) references in an attempt to get Hiram and Hermione to stay together. They agree to forego the divorce…but it’s not what Veronica expects.

And we’re left with another gruesome Gargoyle murder of Baby Teeth and still, many questions. Who is the Gargoyle King? Is The Farm connected? Can we Postmates a Pops milkshake?….

The students of Riverdale have a flare for the dramatics and they channel it into a performance of Heathers: The Musical. Director, Kevin, taps Farmie Evelyn as Co-Director and she uses her new platform to slyly recruit people to her cult. The musical numbers span throughout the episode and Cole Sprouse even joins the Big Fun this time. Archie and Josie address their romance via duet and Cheryl and Toni mend their troubled relationship with a big musical number. But the most stirring part of the episode is the final scene where Chad Michael Murray’s Edgar Evernever is revealed giving one creepy standing ovation with a slew of other Farmies in white. Heartbreak and drama loom over Riverdale…but what’s new, really?

Pretty Poison power couple, Cheryl and Toni, are on the rocks. Veggie has spoiled. Reggie tries to appeal to boss babe Veronica who just is not having it today. And Jughead has learned about his mob mom’s true reason for returning to the ‘dale. With only 6 episodes left in season 3, lots of drama is still yet to unfold.

Season 3 Episode 15 show the Jones now keeping up with all the others Jones and moving into the Cooper compound. Creepy, yes. And they even give Betty an invite to stay in her old room. Nope. The town celebrates FP’s 50th birthday (aging like a fine wine, FP), but our heartstrings were tugged when Fred Andrews, played by the late Luke Perry, welcomed FP to the neighborhood. All his scenes seem to feel so poignant now. Tuesday, on The View, Cole Sprouse revealed that they will work Luke Perry’s passing into the narrative of the show.

And guess what? Surprise! Next week is a musical episode! Just Jess’s faaavvorriitte (sarcasm). Instead of talking through her problems, Cheryl charges her HBIC battery by staging a musical version of Heathers. I guess sometimes you just have to express yourself through the art of song.

Riverdale Rewind podcast would like to send condolences to the family, friends and fans of Luke Perry. We were never lucky enough to meet him, but from all accounts he sounds like a terrific human being and will truly be missed.

In Riverdale Ch 49: Fire Walk with Me, we’re introduced to a creepy new kid, Ricky. If there’s one thing I’ve learned from ample tv viewing it’s that you never trust a rogue kid. We see Kevin go deep into the land of the Farmies… (OK who is making us “Farmies” shirts, cause that’s one heck of a nickname) and Betty goes full Dark Betty SPOILERS torching her nightmare on Elm St home and showing some interest in the mystical happenings of the farm cult. Kevin and Evelyn turn to blackmail to try to prevent Betty from publishing a scathing article about the farm. Will she publish it and risk letting her family secrets out?

The Serpent/Gargoyle Gang and Pretty Poisons stir up drama and there seems to be looming trouble in paradise for Toni and Cheryl. Will this couple last the season?

And Veronica turns her not so secret speakeasy into a casino as the battle for boss between Hiram and Gladys heats up. How long will Gladys and Jellybean keep their secret mob life from FP and Jughead?

First of all, we want to send our thoughts to Papa Andrews, Luke Perry, who has suffered a stroke. Here’s to a full and speedy recovery!

Oh Archiekins. You’ve had a hard year. Maybe getting punched in the face for a hobby is ill advised? But what do we know. There is one moment of magic, though, involving Alice Cooper. And no… (SPOILERS) it’s not when Betty’s saves her life after near-drowning at The Farm. It’s how the costume department transformed her 80s monstrosity wedding gown into a somewhat fashionable frock. Well done. You’re the true MVPs of Riverdale Ch 48 (Season 3 episode 13).

Ok, we were right… Tall Boy was not the real Gargoyle King. The Midnight Club is forced to reunite before Sierra McCoy and Tom Keller’s wedding to finish the ascension night they started decades ago. This episode reveals yet ANOTHER weirdo willing to don the mask of the gargoyles but is it too early in the season wrap up this mystery in a pretty bow? Is there still another Gargoyle King from days of yore at large? Perchance… it is Bizarrodale after all. Toni and Cheryl set their sights on helping Kevin and Moose become an out couple and cause some chaos along the way. And Cheryl sets Toni up with a new gang, the Pretty Poisons (sigh). I would have rather seen her go back to the leathered arms of the Serpents.

Plus things between our two favorite songbirds, Josie and Archie, heat up. But their romance could be short-lived because actress Ashleigh Murray is set to lead the Riverdale spinoff, ‘Katy Keene,’ in another city. (Admittedly, I think it will be nice for her character, Josie, to have more content to work with, so I’m happy to see her bounce.)

And in an interesting twist, Jughead’s mom, Gladys, and sister, Jellybean, have returned to town to stay and presumably stirr up trouble with the Lodge family. Side note: Where was FP’s longterm beau, Gladys, during the Midnight Club’s shenanigans?

The Latest: RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) – A North Carolina appeals court says President Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign organization isn’t responsible for a state director accused of pointing a loaded pistol against another Trump supporter’s knee.

The state Court of Appeals ruled Wednesday that former campaign worker Vincent Bordini can’t revive his lawsuit against the Trump For President organization.

Bordini last year dropped his lawsuit accusing former North Carolina campaign director Earl Phillip of assault with his .45-caliber handgun as the two rode in a vehicle. Phillip said it never happened.

Appeals judges ruled that the Trump campaign couldn’t be sued because Phillip was working in 2016 as an independent contractor with minimal direction from higher Trump campaign officials.

Judges said campaign managers hadn’t been told of earlier incidents of Phillip erratically waving his gun around people.

Original Story (Aug. 11, 2016): CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A lawsuit was filed against the Donald J. Trump campaign for president due to an incident allegedly involving a Trump staffer pulling a gun on another staffer.

Vincent Bordini, who claims he was a former Trump campaign staffer, filed the lawsuit in Charlotte on Wednesday.

Bordini says he was riding in a Jeep with Earl Phillips, the Trump campaign’s former North Carolina State Director, when Phillips reportedly pulled out a gun and put the barrel on Bordini’s knee cap.

Bordini claims he reported the incident to several people with the Trump campaign including the manager of Trump’s campaign at the time, Corey Lewandowski. Bordini said even after reporting the incident to several people, nothing was done.

The Latest: The officer involved in the fatal shooting of Rubin Galindo will not face charges, according to Mecklenburg County District Attorney Andrew Murray.

Here is the conclusion to the report Murray issued, detailing why he will not pursuit charges against the officer involved in Galindo’s death.

“There is no dispute that Officer Guerra fired his weapon and killed Galindo. Therefore, the central issue in this review is whether or not Officer Guerra was justified under North Carolina law in using deadly force. A police officer – or any other person – is justified in using deadly force if he reasonably believed, and in fact believed, that he or another person was in imminent danger of great bodily injury or death from the actions of the person who is shot. In this case, the evidence clearly supports the conclusion that Officer Guerra was facing a mentally unstable, impaired individual armed with a gun and that Galindo failed to properly comply with commands. While it is entirely possible that Galindo’s intent was to surrender to police and give them the firearm, other alternatives that could have been lethal to the officers, neighbors in the community or other occupants of the residence were just as likely based on the information available to Officer Guerra in the seconds he had to evaluate the situation. This officer-involved shooting was indisputably tragic, but it was not unlawful. Consequently, I will not be seeking charges related to the death of Rubin Galindo.”

The City of Charlotte released a statement following the District Attorney’s announcement:

“Any loss of life is tragic. Our thoughts are with the Galindo family as well as Officer Guerra and the other officers involved. CMPD remains committed to ensuring the safety of the community it serves, as well as encouraging transparency and open dialogue.”

On Friday, CMPD released all body camera footage related to the deadly officer-involved shooting of Rubin Galindo.

The family issued a statement following the video’s release:

“My name is Azucena Zamorano Aleman. I lived with Rubin Galindo. We were life partners and we had a daughter together.

Her name is Rubi and she is 4 months old. Ruben also acted like a father to my 4 other children.

This is a tragic loss. This was avoidable.

The recordings confirm what we already knew. Rubin was seeking help.

He repeatedly stated he had no bullets. It has been confirmed he had no bullets.

Despite prior statements, Rubin’s hands were in the air.

We will work with authorities to ensure a thorough investigation is concluded so that justice can be achieved for Rubin.

At this time, we ask that our privacy be respected so we can try to cope with this situation. Please direct any questions to my attorneys, Brian Hochman and Brad Butler at the above numbers.”

A judge previously ruled that body camera footage from the fatal officer-involved shooting would be released to the public. Safe Coalition NC fought to have the footage released.

The department says they also plan to release all 911 audio and radio traffic related to the incident.

Around 9pm Wednesday, Rubin Galindo called 911 and told dispatchers that he had a gun. Throughout the conversation, which included Spanish interpreters, officials say Galindo refused to say what his intentions were with the weapon and did not give a clear reason for his call.

Galindo did tell dispatchers that he had been drinking, according to reports, and gave conflicting statements about whether or not he had taken any drugs.

Officials say there was never a language barrier during the call, only a communication barrier brought on by Galindo’s vague answers and overall demeanor.

Officers Courtney Suggs and David Guerra responded to the call and found Galindo with a gun outside the Hunters Pointe Apartments on Prospect Drive in northeast Charlotte. Officers say they repeatedly asked him to drop the weapon and show them his hands. Police say some of those commands were also given in Spanish.

When Galindo refused to comply, officers say they perceived an imminent deadly threat. Officers Suggs and Guerra then fired several shots, hitting the suspect.

Galindo was pronounced dead on the scene.

Officers cleared the home after the shooting to ensure no other threat was present. Inside, police say they found several children and adults, which were removed without incident.

No other injuries were reported

Detectives say they did recover the gun Galindo was holding at the time of the shooting at the scene.

As is standard procedure with any officer involved shooting, the Internal Affairs Bureau will conduct a separate but parallel investigation to determine whether CMPD policies and procedures were adhered to during the course of the incident. Per department protocol, Officers Suggs and Guerra have been placed on Administrative Leave.

MEXICO CITY (AP) — A delicate effort to reach a young girl buried in the ruins of her school stretched into a new day on Thursday, a vigil broadcast across the nation as rescue workers struggled in rain and darkness to pick away unstable debris and reach her.

The sight of her wiggling fingers early Wednesday became a symbol for the hope that drove thousands of professionals and volunteers to work frantically at dozens of wrecked buildings across the capital and nearby states looking for survivors of the magnitude 7.1 quake that killed at least 245 people in central Mexico and injured over 2,000.

Mexico’s navy announced early Thursday it had recovered the body of a school worker from the Enrique Rebsamen school, but still had not been able to rescue the trapped child.

Rescuers removed dirt bucketful by bucketful and passed a scanner over the rubble every hour or so to search for heat signatures that could indicate trapped survivors. Shortly before dawn the pile shuddered ominously, prompting those working atop it to evacuate.

“We are just meters (yards) away from getting to the children, but we can’t access it until it is shored up,” said Vladimir Navarro, a university employee who was exhausted after working all night. “With the shaking there has been, it is very unstable and taking any decision is dangerous.”

Mexico City Mayor Miguel Angel Mancera said the number of confirmed dead in the capital had risen from 100 to 115. An earlier federal government statement had put the overall toll at 230, including 100 deaths in Mexico City.

Mancera also said two women and a man had been pulled alive from a collapsed office building in the city’s center Wednesday night, almost 36 hours after the quake.

President Enrique Pena Nieto declared three days of mourning while soldiers, police, firefighters and everyday citizens kept digging through rubble, at times with their hands gaining an inch at a time, at times with cranes and backhoes to lift heavy slabs of concrete.

“There are still people groaning. There are three more floors to remove rubble from. And you still hear people in there,” said Evodio Dario Marcelino, a volunteer who was working with dozens of others at a collapsed apartment building.

In all, 52 people had been rescued alive since the quake, the city’s Social Development Department said, adding in a tweet: “We won’t stop.” It was a race against time, Pena Nieto warned in a tweet of his own saying that “every minute counts to save lives.”

But the country’s attention focused on the collapsed Enrique Rebsamen school on the city’s south side, where 21 children and five adults have now been confirmed dead.

Video has emerged of people huddled together on the 38th floor of a building in Mexico City with ceiling lights swinging from side to side, as a magnitude 7.1 earthquake struck on Tuesday. (Sept. 20)

Hopes rose Wednesday when workers told local media they had detected signs that one girl was alive and she speaking to them through a hole dug in the rubble. Thermal imaging suggested several more people might be in the airspace around her.

A volunteer rescue worker, Hector Mendez, said cameras lowered into the rubble suggested there might be four people still inside, but he added that it wasn’t clear if anyone beside the girl was alive.

Dr. Alfredo Vega, who was working with the rescue team, said that a girl who he identified only as “Frida Sofia” had been located alive under the pancaked floor slabs.

Vega said “she is alive, and she is telling us that there are five more children alive” in the same space.

But the navy said the identity of the girl is unclear because no relatives of the child have come forward with information.

The debris removed from the school changed as crews worked their way deeper, from huge chunks of brick and concrete to pieces of wood that looked like remnants of desks and paneling to a load that contained a half dozen sparkly hula-hoops.

Rescuers carried in lengths of wide steel pipe big enough for someone to crawl through, apparently trying to create a tunnel into the collapsed slabs of the three-story school building. But a heavy rain fell during the night, and the tottering pile of rubble had to be shored up with hundreds of wooden beams.

People have rallied to help their neighbors in a huge volunteer effort that includes people from all walks of life in Mexico City, where social classes seldom mix. Doctors, dentists and lawyers stood alongside construction workers and street sweepers, handing buckets of debris or chunks of concrete hand-to-hand down the line.

At a collapsed factory building closer to the city’s center, giant cranes lifted huge slabs of concrete from the towering pile of rubble, like peeling layers from an onion. Workers with hand tools would quickly move in to look for signs of survivors and begin attacking the next layer.

Government rescue worker Alejandro Herrera said three bodies had been found Wednesday afternoon at the factory.

“There are sounds (beneath the rubble), but we don’t know if they are coming from inside or if it is the sound of the rubble,” Herrera said.

Not only humans were pulled out.

Mexico City police said rescue workers clearing wreckage from a collapsed medical laboratory in the Roma neighborhood found and removed 40 lab rabbits and 13 lab rats used by the firm that had occupied the building, now a pile of beams and rubble.

In addition to those killed in Mexico City, the federal civil defense agency said 69 died in Morelos state just south of the capital and 43 in Puebla state to the southeast, where the quake was centered. The rest of the deaths were in Mexico State, which borders Mexico City on three sides, Guerrero and Oaxaca states.

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. (AP) — Emergency workers around hurricane-scarred Florida worked to make sure elderly residents were safe, evacuating multiple assisted-living facilities, after eight people died in a sweltering nursing home that lost its air conditioning in the storm.

In one of the latest actions to protect older residents, firefighters helped relocate 122 people late Wednesday from two assisted living centers near Orlando that had been without power since Hurricane Irma. Elsewhere, facilities lacking electricity statewide tried to keep residents cool with dampened cloths and urged utilities to work quickly.

Stepped-up safety checks came after the eight deaths at the Rehabilitation Center at Hollywood Hills, which shocked Florida’s top leaders even as they surveyed destruction from a storm that spread its punishing effects across the entire state.

“Unfathomable,” Gov. Rick Scott said of the nursing home deaths. “Inexcusable,” U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson added.

Around the state, 81 nursing homes lacked electricity as of Wednesday night, according to the Florida Health Care Association.

Eight patients at a sweltering nursing home died in Hurricane Irma’s aftermath, raising fears Wednesday about the safety of Florida’s 4 million senior citizens amid widespread power outages that could go on for days. (Sept. 13)

The number of people without electricity in Florida’s steamy late-summer heat was down to 6.8 million on Wednesday. That number was 13 million on Monday. Utility officials warned it could take over a week for power to be fully restored. (Sept. 14)

In Coral Gables, an apartment building was evacuated after authorities said its lack of power made it unsafe for elderly tenants. And at the15,000-resident Century Village retirement community in Pembroke Pines, where there were also widespread outages, rescue workers went door to door in the 94-degree heat checking on residents and bringing ice, water and meals.

For the elderly outside assisted living facilities, such as 94-year-old Mary Dellaratta, getting help can depend on the attentiveness of neighbors, family and local authorities. The widow evacuated her Naples condominium with the help of police the day before the storm hit. After the hurricane passed, a deputy took her back home and another brought her food. A deacon from her Roman Catholic church has also stopped by.

But with no family in the area and neighbors who are gone or unwilling to help, the New York native feels cut off from the world.

“I have nobody,” she said.

The electricity is out in her condo, so there’s no television for news. She also can’t raise the electric-powered hurricane shutters that cover her kitchen windows.

Near the point of despair, remembering to take her medicine or locating her cane are almost insurmountable challenges.

“I don’t know what to do. How am I going to last here?” she said, as a tear rolled down her cheek.

Though the number of people with electricity had improved from earlier in the week, some 6.8 million people across the peninsula continued to wait for power, and utility officials warned it could take a week or more for all areas to be back up and running.

As recovery continues, President Donald Trump was due to visit Naples in southwestern Florida on Thursday.

Including the nursing home deaths, at least 25 people in Florida have died under Irma-related circumstances, and six more in South Carolina and Georgia, many of them well after the storm had passed. The death toll across the Caribbean stood at 38.

In Hollywood, the Rehabilitation Center said the hurricane had knocked out a transformer that powered the air conditioning. Broward County said the home alerted officials Tuesday that it had lost power, but when asked if it had any medical needs or emergencies, it did not request help.

Early Wednesday morning, after responding to three calls about patients there in distress, firefighters went through the facility and found three people dead and evacuated more than 150 patients to hospitals, many on stretchers or in wheelchairs, authorities said.

By the afternoon, five more had died. Others were treated for dehydration, breathing difficulties and other heat-related problems.

Hollywood Police Chief Tom Sanchez said investigators believe the deaths at the Rehabilitation Center were heat-related and that a criminal investigation has been launched. The chief said authorities have not ruled anything out in the deaths, including carbon monoxide poisoning from generators. Authorities performed safety checks on other facilities around the city Wednesday.

Glendale Owens, the daughter of one of the men who died, said she visited her father in the nursing home Monday and everything seemed fine. She said Bobby Owens had been at the facility for more than 10 years.

“People are telling me different things,” she said Wednesday evening. “But nobody from the facility has told me anything yet.”

Paulburn Bogle, a member of the housekeeping staff, said after the air conditioning failed, the staff used fans, put cold towels and ice on patients and gave them cold drinks. The medical examiner’s office said the victims were five women and three men, ages 70 to 99.

Calls to the owner and other officials at the Hollywood home were not immediately returned, but the facility’s administrator, Jorge Carballo, said in a statement that it was cooperating fully with authorities.

The governor said he’s directed state officials to issue an emergency moratorium to prevent the facility from admitting new patients.

Nursing homes in Florida are required by law to file an emergency plan that includes evacuation plans for residents. County officials released documents showing that the Hollywood facility was in compliance with that regulation and that it held a hurricane drill with its staff in October.

At another assisted living facility near Miami, the manager said the building lost power Tuesday morning well after the hurricane had passed. Residents had been temporarily evacuated when the storm lashed South Florida, but they came back around the time the facility lost power.

Anne Richards, who manages Sunny Hills Assisted Living Community in Homestead, said she is asking relatives of the facility’s 97 elderly residents if they can come take their loved ones someplace cooler. Her main concern is air conditioning.

At the dining hall on Wednesday, staff members were pressing cold rags on patients’ shoulders and necks. Area temperatures were in the high 80s Wednesday and Thursday.

“We need the power restored,” Richards said. “We can’t keep on like this.”

Resident Barbara Bernstein, 83, said it’s difficult to walk in the dark to the restroom using a flashlight, but her main concern was the lack of AC.

“It’s very, very hot here,” she said. “And there are so many older people here with different physical problems, that I think they should make this a priority to get the power back.”

CHARLOTTE, NC – Duke Energy has restored power to 313,000 North Carolina and South Carolina customers impacted by Tropical Storm Irma’s high winds, and expects to restore electricity to the remaining 57,000 by 11 p.m. Friday, if not sooner.

At the height of the storm, 171,000 Duke Energy customers in the Carolinas were without power simultaneously.

More than 3,700 Duke Energy workers are making repairs to heavily damaged power lines and other electrical equipment in multiple cities, towns and rural areas in both states.

Crews are replacing more than 80 miles of damaged power lines, 300 utility poles and 125 transformers.

Hardest-hit areas are located in the North Carolina mountains (Buncombe, Jackson and Macon counties), and Upstate South Carolina (Anderson, Greenville, Pickens, Oconee and Laurens counties).

One example: In the North Carolina mountain town of Cashiers, damage in some areas was so severe that Duke Energy crews used bulldozers to cut temporary roads to access power lines and utility poles knocked down by large trees and other vegetation blown over by the storm’s high winds.

“We greatly appreciate our customers’ ongoing patience and graciousness as we work to restore power quickly and safely under some extremely challenging conditions,” said Tim Tripp, Duke Energy’s director of storm response for the Carolinas. “Our crews will continue to work long hours until every customer’s lights are back on.”

Florida Update In Florida, we have restored power to 800,000 customers and 600,000 customers remain without power.

Duke Energy says they experienced significant damage across the electrical system in Florida. Crews are replacing almost 3,000 poles; approximately 950 miles of wire and more than 1,100 transformers.

More than 12,000 line workers, tree professionals, damage assessors and support personnel have been mobilized to tackle Hurricane Irma’s aftermath and restore service for customers who were impacted.

Duke Energy crews are working to restore all of the 124 transmission lines and 68 substations that were out of service.

UPDATE: Officials say Trooper T.J. Williamson has submitted his resignation effective immediately.

UPDATE: Officials say the trooper caught on video speeding the wrong way down a North Carolina highway in Catawba County has been placed on administrative duty pending an internal investigation by the State Highway Patrol.

Trooper T.J. Williamson was reportedly responding to a call about several BMWs racing and driving erratically on Highway 321.

Williamson was employed with the Patrol in August of 2016 and is assigned to the Troop F, District 5 Highway Patrol office in Hickory.

CATAWBA CO., N.C. – It is a jaw dropping video: a trooper seen traveling at high speeds, the wrong way on a highway in Catawba County. The person who posted the video wrote: “Who puts more lives at risk on (Highway) 321? The BMWs or this trooper?”

Those BMWs he’s referencing? The State Highway Patrol says it was notified by multiple motorists about a group of sports cars causing problems Sunday afternoon: impeding traffic, speeding, and running other drivers off the road.

Seven men are now charged. Five vehicles were seized, that troopers say were also involved in a “pre-arranged speed competition.” We got a look at a ticket that one of the driver’s received. It cites the man for both street racing, and driving too slowly. He’s been ordered to show up for court in September.

Adam Seifer of SeiferFlatow Law is the man’s attorney. He’s also currently representing four of the other drivers, too. He says they are part of a BMW enthusiast club. Seifer says, “There’s no evidence they were exceeding the speed.” He continues, “It was my understanding also that they were going in a single file line. So, ‘competition’ implies that somebody is trying to beat somebody else.”

And back to that video: WCCB asked the State Highway Patrol to tell us what policy or procedure governs that type of trooper driving. We haven’t yet gotten a reply.

The video is now removed from Facebook, but not before it was viewed 267,000 and shared more than 5,300 times. We messaged the man who posted it, but he hasn’t replied. We’ll update you when we hear back from the State Highway Patrol.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — No charges will be filed against a CMPD officer who shot and killed a man in north Charlotte in March 2017, according to a news release sent by the District Attorney’s office.

UPDATE: A report from the Mecklenburg County Medical Examiner says Josue Diaz died of multiple gunshot wounds during a road rage incident with an undercover CMPD officer back in January.

According to the Associated Press, the report released Tuesday says that Diaz was shot six times in the chest, abdomen, and hands. The toxicology report also says that Diaz had cocaine in his system at the time of the incident.

Police say Diaz also fired shots at the undercover officer, and officers recovered that gun at the scene.

According to investigators, Diaz used a .22 caliber revolver which was recovered at the scene. Homicide detectives found a bullet hole and projectile in the undercover detective’s vehicle, according to the report, and later determined the bullet was a .22 caliber round.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. –Police say a man has died in an officer-involved shooting on Albemarle Road in east Charlotte. This is near Farm Pond Lane.

CMPD says a detective was driving an undercover vehicle on Albermarle Road when he was sideswiped by another driver. Police say the driver, who was later identified as 28-year-old Josue Diaz, did not stop so the detective followed in his unmarked vehicle.

At some point, police say Diaz got out of his vehicle armed with a gun. That’s when police say the detective perceived an imminent threat and fired his service weapon, striking and killing the man.

The passenger in the vehicle with Diaz stayed at the scene. No officers were injured. CMPD says a gun has been recovered from the scene.

CMPD Deputy Chief Jeff Estes says this is a road rage incident that turned out to be tragic.

Police say Diaz and the detective involved in the shooting were both Hispanic males. The detective has been placed on administrative leave, which is standard procedure. CMPD says they are not releasing the name of the detective involved due to the nature of his undercover assignment.

For the first time since the officer-involved shooting last week that killed 25-year-old Yaroslav Mosiuk. CMPD allowed attorney Charles Monnett to sit with Mosiuk’s sister Olesya to listen to her 9-11 call where she tells the operator her brother is acting crazy in her house, so she left.

Operator: ” Is he just having like a mental breakdown or is he trying to kill himself?

Olesya: ” I think so I think he’s having a mental breakdown, he hasn’t slept in days”

She then tells them there is a gun in the house, but her boyfriend and her had it dismantled and hid the key.

Olesya: ” He grabbed the rifle from under the bed and he tried to load the magazine but the main like part to it is hidden, you know, we take it apart, like hide it”

Monnett says they also got their first look at the two responding officers body cam video.

“When you see the body cam it sounds like they’re surprised when they look in the house and see he has a gun, but she’s clearly tried to convey to them that is the situation and I wonder if they got adequate information,” said Monnett.

CMPD says Officer Brian Walsh saw Mosiuk in the driveway with a hunting rifle causing an imminent threat so he fired. Monnett says he didn’t clearly see a rifle in Mosiuk’s hand in the video. Now he says he and the family want CMPD to be transparent.

“We would encourage them to release both body cam videos there’s two officers that respond let the public see what happened and draw their own conclusions,” said Monnett.

We’ve reached out to CMPD asking about the body camera video and are yet to hear if it will be released. Officer Walsh is on administrative leave pending the investigation which police say is standard procedure.

BELMONT, NC — Just before 9am, police say two armed masked men broke into a home on North Street while the victim was asleep.

Police say a struggle ensued when the victim grabbed one of the suspect’s guns, and then the other suspect fired a shot into the floor. Officials say the suspects took off after the shot, and got in a small blue vehicle.

No one was injured and no property was taken during the incident. Police have not released a description of the suspects.

BOONE, NC — A NC State Trooper was arrested Friday on multiple charges including DWI and hit and run.

Officials say Matthew Grogan was driving a brown Toyota truck when he hit a vehicle around 9:20pm in the parking lot of the Cookout on Blowing Rock Road.

Officials say Grogan was arrested for Felony Fleeing to Elude Arrest, Driving While Impaired, and Hit and Run.

Grogan was released on a $10,000 unsecured bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on March 30th.

CHARLOTTE, NC — Still no arrests in the case of an East Meck football player shot and killed at a party Sunday night.

Monday, Chris Allen’s friends and teammates gathered outside East Mecklenburg High School, trying to make sense of the murder some of them just witnessed less than 24 hours earlier. “I was two minutes from falling asleep when I got that call, and I had to go wake my parents up and tell them what just happened,” Dakota Allen, Chris Allen’s little brother, told WCCB Charlotte.

It was just before 11pm Sunday night when police say the teens called 911 from a home on Kelford Ln. Police say Allen and the suspect got into an argument, and the suspect fired a gun. Allen later died at the hospital.

“I wish I would have said bye when he walked out the house, but I just didn’t think anything of it. Just a normal day,” said Dakota Allen.

Allen was a senior football player at East Meck. His father told WCCB Charlotte Allen wanted to be a police officer one day. “He was considerate. Definitely one of the least selfish person I know,” said Dakota Allen.

CMPD had not named a suspect in his case by Monday evening. “Just to put this guy behind bars would mean the most of everything to the whole family,” said Dakota Allen.

Allen’s death is the 12th homicide in Charlotte in two months.

UPDATE: Bobby Glenn appeared on video before a judge Wednesday after being accused of hijacking an ambulance Tuesday morning.

According to reports, Glenn was seated in a wheelchair during the appearance. The AP says that Glenn was appointed a public defender and was placed under a $250,000 bond.

GASTON COUNTY, N.C. — Officials say a man is in custody after he hijacked an ambulance in Gaston County.

The Gaston County Emergency Medical Services (GEMS) vehicle was being used to transport Bobby Glenn and his 3-year-old child to the hospital when officials say Glenn used force to hijack the ambulance.

Officials say he made the EMT’s on board drive until they stopped on I-85 near mile marker 24 where police were able to take Glenn into custody.

Police say Glenn assaulted officers while being arrested. Glenn has been charged with two counts of kidnapping, resisting a public officer, assault on a government official, misdemeanor child abuse and communicating threats.

Glenn was taken to a local hospital after medical staff at the jail found he had an evaluated heart rate. DSS is also investigating.

UPDATE: Gaston County Police Chief Joseph Ramey says Timothy Leophard is no longer a GCPD officer, but remains a County employee while the County fulfills its obligations to him following the August 2015 injuries suffered when Leophard was shot in the line of duty.

Chief Ramey also says GCPD was involved in the initial Christmas Eve call, and that “no law enforcement issued weapons were involved in the incident.”

Leophard has been with the department since 2003.

Officer Tim Leophard was charged with assault on a female, assault with a deadly weapon in front of a minor and pointing a gun.

Leophard has been inactive on the force since August 2015, when he was shot in the line of duty, according to officials. He is currently in jail without bond until his court appearance.

The Gaston County Police Chief says it’s too early to say if Leophard will be suspended. The department has launched an internal investigation.

CHARLOTTE, NC — Police are investigating after a 5-year-old was shot inside a vehicle in north Charlotte.

The shooting happened on North College Street. Police say the child was inside a vehicle with three adults and one other child traveling on 12th Street at North College Street when a vehicle pulled up next to them and someone fired multiple shots into the vehicle. The driver in the vehicle with the child drove to a nearby 7-Eleven and called for help.

Officials say the child has been taken to CMC with life-threatening injuries.

Our crew at the scene says there is a heavy police presence in the area, and there investigation is currently centered around a car that is parked in the parking lot. Police have the back door and trunk open, and crime tape has been put up around the entire station.

Preliminary information indicates that one of the adult males in the victim vehicle and the suspect are known to one another. The suspect vehicle is a silver Nissan Sentra.

Detectives are currently canvassing the area to determine whether there were any additional witnesses to this incident.

Investigators say Deputy Misty Flowers, 38, was showing the operation of the weapon to friends at her home on Loop Road when the gun accidentally fired and went through a wall striking her 11-year-old daughter.

The child was airlifted to a hospital in Charlotte where she is listed in stable condition following surgery.

Sheriff Carpenter released the following statement, “I find gross negligence and the disregard for the safety of others was displayed in the incident Saturday night and therefore Officer Flowers was terminated today. This is totally separate from the SBI investigation into the incident that occurred at her residence.”

Sheriff Carpenter went on to say, “During this entire situation my focus has been on the well-being and condition of the child involved and am of the understanding the child is going to be ok after the surgery. This is a very tragic situation for all involved, the officer, her family, her career and everyone that has been touched by this. We continue to pray for healing of the child and the entire family as the investigation continues over the next several days.”

CHARLOTTE, NC — Police are looking for the person responsible for hitting six pedestrians, including two toddlers, Sunday evening in east Charlotte.

The accident happened around 8pm on Dinglewood Avenue at East Sugar Creek Road. According to reports, the victims were out in front of their home when a silver van hit them and fled the scene.

Officials say five of the six victims hit were taken to the hospital. Family members say the mom suffered two broken legs, another victim had a broken foot, and one toddler was taken into surgery Sunday night while the other was sent home after being treated for minor injuries.

UPDATE: CMPD has released the name of the officer and suspect involved in a shooting at the Days Inn on East Woodlawn Road Wednesday morning.

Investigators say Officer Francine Delano shot, 31-year-old, Alonzo Edwin Castro after responding to a 911 call regarding a possible armed robbery with shots fired.

Officer Delano has been placed on paid Administrative Leave. Officer Delano has been employed with the CMPD since January 23, 2006, and is currently assigned to the Westover Division.

A witness reported seeing a robbery in an alley, and stated Castro pulled out a gun and another man, Isidro Albarran, fired several shots as the victim was leaving the area.

According to reports, Officer Delano was in the area and immediately responded upon hearing the gun shots.

Officer Delano saw two men, identified as Alonzo Castro and Isidro Albarran, in an alley as she exited her vehicle. Officer Delano perceived an imminent threat and fired her weapon striking Castro in the leg.

Officers rendered aid to Castro before he was transported by medic to Carolinas Medical Center, where he was treated and released. Castro was then transported to police headquarters and interviewed by detectives. Following the interview, Castro was charged with two counts of Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, and Attempted Robbery with A Dangerous Weapon.

Isidro Albarran, 38, voluntarily came to police headquarters and spoke with detectives. At the conclusion of his interview, Albarran was charged by Homicide detectives with Discharging a Firearm within the City Limits.

The investigation is ongoing, and CMPD public affairs will release further information will as it develops.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A CMPD officer is on paid-administrative leave after shooting an armed man in the leg at a Charlotte hotel early Wednesday morning, according to investigators.

Police say the officer heard multiple gunshots coming from the parking lot of the Days Inn on East Woodlawn Road just before 2am. Investigators say when the officer pulled into the parking lot and exited her vehicle she immediately encountered an individual who was armed with a handgun.

The officer reportedly perceived that this armed man was an imminent deadly threat at which time she fired her service weapon, striking the man in the leg.

Additional officers arrived on the scene and immediately provided medical assistance to the man, including applying a tourniquet. The man was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The officer was not injured.

The firearm that the man was reportedly carrying was recovered at the scene, according to a news release.

The names of the officer and the man who was shot will be released at a later time.

INDIAN TRIAL, N.C. — Officials say they arrested a man wearing clown make-up and carrying a hatchet in Union County.

Deputies were called to the Wilco convenience store on Chambers Drive Sunday evening just before 6pm in reference to a suspicious person wearing dark clothing, a toboggan and clown paint on his face.

Deputies say they found Travis Pressley, 20, of Indian Trial, a short distance away from the convenience store.

Pressley had clown paint on his face and was carrying a backpack which deputies say had marijuana, drug paraphernalia and a hatchet inside.

He was placed under arrest for 2nd degree trespassing, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The Watauga County Sheriff’s Office and Watauga County Fire Marshall’s Office requested assistance from the SBI and ATF to determine the cause of the massive fire. Investigators found that the fire was the result of arson.

With the help of multiple agencies and witness interviews from around the area officials were able to identify 30-year-old Benjamin Williford of Boone as the suspect. A warrant charging Williford with First Degree Arson was issued.

Officials found Williford at Harrah’s Cherokee Casino in Cherokee, NC. Williford was arrested and taken back to Watauga County where he was placed under a $500,000 bond.

Officials say more charges related to the death of Macie Pietrowickz are expected. A GoFundMe account has been made to help with her funeral costs.

Williford’s court date is October 20, 2016.

WATAUGA COUNTY, N.C. — Officials say one person was killed and five people were injured in a massive fire at a strip mall in Watauga County.

The fire started around 5:38am Friday at the Valle Landing strip mall on Highway 194 South in Sugar Grove. Crews say a family of four was able to escape the fire and all fire and EMS personnel are accounted for at this time.

One burn victim was flown to Watauga Medical Center. Their condition is unknown at this time.

Police are diverting traffic around the area while crews are on scene. There is no word on what caused this massive fire. This is still developing. Check back for updates.

She’s charged with the murder of her four-day-old son William, something family members are having a difficult time believing.

“She ain’t the type of person to do something like that she always good to the kids,” said the baby’s grandfather, Billy Lewis.

According to an arrest warrant, investigators say Blackwell put the baby inside the fridge and closed the door on February 27th. Deputies say she left him there for three hours, then called 9-1-1.

“That’s a lie right there cause she didn’t do it we don’t know who did, we just know she didn’t don’t cause she loves her kids too much,” said Lewis.

Family says there were other people staying at the home that night including two children Blackwell’s sister was baby-sitting, one was autistic.

“I got up and they was running around the house hollering and carrying on and I was wondering what was wrong so I went in my son’s room and he was giving the baby CPR,” said Lewis.

The baby’s father Jeffrey was too emotional to talk on camera, but says Blackwell was a great mother. Pictures show the happy family the day William was born.

Blackwell is being held without bond. She’s facing 20 years to life on the charge murder by child neglect. Her next hearing is Nov 10th.

William ‘Skip’ McCullen has been charged with first degree murder. Officials called off the search for a missing three-year-old after search crews found the remains of a toddler in a wooded area.

Jordan Dumont disappeared Monday afternoon at a home on Bess Town Road.

The mother’s boyfriend, William McCullen, told police he was watching Jordan and her 1-year-old sibling while their mom was at work.

He told police he fell asleep and when he woke up about two hours later the little girl was gone.

The FBI is on the scene. WCCB’s Amy Cowman says Jordan’s mother nor McCullen have been seen at the home since the remains were found.

Ramey says search and rescue crews along with bloodhounds searched a roughly one mile area Monday. The remains were found Tuesday morning.

Next-door neighbors Michael and Nicole Crumbley say they’ve seen police at the home in the past and describe a violent situation.

“The momma’s come over here bloodied from the daddy. They’re beating each other over there,” she says.

Officials say Mathew Benner was arrested near Las Vegas, Nevada Monday and confessed to killing Amanda Strous.

He was taken into custody through a combined effort of the U.S. Marshals Violent Offender Task Force, the Nye County Sheriff’s Office and the VCAT.

Benner is currently in the custody of the Nye County Sheriff’s Office awaiting extradition. There is no timetable on his return. He is being charged with murder and 1st degree arson.

On Saturday, fire crews were called to an apartment on Toscana Way in southwest Charlotte in reference to a fire.

Strous, a 27-year-old student counselor at CPCC, was in the apartment at the time of the fire and was transported to Carolinas Medical Center – Steele Creek. She was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Police say the fire was intentionally set and are investigating this case as a homicide.

CHARLOTTE, N.C.–Many came out to pay their respects to those who died in the Orlando massacre.

John Wright from Uptown Charlotte said, “Even though we are many miles away, we can still feel it. We can still feel it, this was an attack and it was terrible.”

More than a thousand came to Bar 316 in South End Monday night.

Including Charlotte native Devin Nystrom.

He frequented and even worked at Pulse nightclub in Orlando, and says he knew at least 9 people who died.

“I was sort of shocked to hear that, it is hard to process but we have to take a deep breath and remember that love is really the most important thing,” says Nystrom.

The LGBT Chamber of Commerce organized the vigil to show support and give people a place to grieve.

Taylen Haro said, “We’re coming out to stand in solidarity of the community as friends to say that this tragedy of horrible but still a lot love here.”

This just one of many vigils across the Queen City.

CMPD held this candlelight vigil in front of their headquarters to show solidarity for the victims and fellow officers in Orlando.

Yolanda Venson says her nephew lives in Orlando and had friends who died in the shooting.

“I just felt very sad especially for him very supportive for him I just want to give a hug through the phone,” says Venson.

Here in the Queen City, Community Blood Center of the Carolinas has seen an increase in people wanting to donate. Right now, every blood type is needed, even here in Charlotte.

“We are short here, locally, in our supply of blood…We never know what walks in the door at a hospital.” said Martin Grable.

The Community Blood Center of the Carolinas supplies 27 hospitals in the Charlotte region.

Two of them are from North Carolina: Shane Tomlinson was from Concord and Tevin Crosby was from Statesville.

“I’m completely drained,” said Alicia Thompson, “It just feels like a bad dream.”

Thompson got the call just before lunch Sunday. Her mother was telling her that her friend for more than 15 years, Shane Tomlinson, was one of the 49 killed.

“At this point, I’m just numb,” said Thompson. “I have many emotions right now. I want to be angry.”

Tomlinson graduated from Northwest Cabarrus High School in 1999.

He graduated from Eastern Carolina University in 2003 and moved to Orlando where he sang in a group called Frequency Band.

“He was destined for a grand stage and he was doing exactly what he wanted to do,” said Professor Dr. Lathan Turner, Ph.D.

Back in Concord, family saw him as an uncle, a brother, a son.

In Statesville, Tevin Crosby’s family learned he too didn’t make it out of the night club.

“It was just unbearable and unbelievable,” said Crosby’s cousin, Lorenda Hunter.

Crosby graduated from West Iredell High School in 2010.

He lived in Michigan where he ran a marketing firm. His cousin says he stopped in Orlando to visit friends.

“He had his own business, he was doing really, really well, young man, all the potentials of the world,” said Hunter.

Flags are flying half staff in honor of the victims.

Their former schools planning vigils.

Loved ones are preparing for funerals.

“When is enough enough?” said Thompson. “I just don’t know when enough is enough.”

In response to the shooting at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando, several ECU departments and student organizations are partnering with Greenville organizations to host a candlelight vigil at 7:45 p.m., Tuesday, June 14. The event will begin at Crave restaurant, 409 Evans Street, and then those gathered will walk with lit candles to the Greenville Town Common. The names of those killed in the Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando will be read as well as observing a moment of silence and hearing from several speakers. Northwest Cabarrus High School is planning a vigil on Satuday, June 18.

The accident happened at Briardale Drive and Brook Canyon Drive around 9am Tuesday. The bus was from Randolph Middle School.

15 people suffered from non-life threatening injuries. No one was inside the home at the time of the accident.

After reviewing the GPS download from the bus, officials determined that the bus was traveling 29 mph just prior to the sharp curve. At the time the bus left the roadway in the curve, the bus was still traveling at 23 mph. This area is marked with a 10 mph warning sign due to the sharp curve.

The driver of the bus, Latoeya Patton, was cited Friday with traveling “Too Fast for Conditions.”

James Ross, 33, was reported missing after being in the area of 29th Ave S. in Myrtle Beach.

Ross’ body was pulled from the ocean Friday morning near Long Bay Estates. Officials say Ross was swimming in the ocean when he disappeared. No foul is expected at this time.

GASTONIA, NC — Officials tell WCCB a suspect has been arrested in connection to a Gastonia homicide.

Police arrested Eduardo Jorge Rojas on Friday in connection to the murder of 38-year-old Amoritta Starr Costner.

Costner was found dead in the bathroom of a home on West 10th Avenue around 3:45pm Thursday. Police say the home’s owner found Starr’s body and called police.

Lester Artis is accused of shooting an employee at the Family Dollar store on East Sugar Creek during a robbery attempt. The employee survived the shooting.

Artis was taken into custody on April 18th. He has been charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting injury.

Gastonia Police are searching for Dominique Morrison, 22, of Lincolnton.

GASTONIA, N.C. — Police are asking for the public’s help in locating the person who shot at a vehicle on I-85.

Two vehicles that were stopped at a red light on North New Hope Road around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday. After the light turned green, the car behind the front car honked the horn.

Both vehicles later got on I-85 southbound, where the suspect inside the front car fired a shot into the other car. No one was struck or injured, and the victim pulled over to call 911.

The suspect vehicle is a 2001 tan colored Buick, license tag DMA3920, which is registered to 22-year-old Alan Little of Lincolnton. No one is charged at this time, but Little is a person of interest in the case.

GASTONIA, N.C. — Police say a Gastonia man was arrested after becoming irate because officers would not give him a ride to work.

In the call, he claims the road he works on does not have sidewalks and is on a highway. He claims he has been hit before and doesn’t want to get hit again.

The 911 operator informed Lipscomb that officers do not offer free rides. According a news release, Lipscomb became irate and was using profanity towards the 911 operator.

He was arrested and charged with misuse of 911.

LANDIS, NC — A mother faces multiple charges after her toddler was found unconscious from an overdose.

Police say a friend of 26-year-old Shannon Clement called them around 10:30am Wednesday after finding Clement asleep in her bed, surrounded by pills, and her 20-month-old child unconscious. The friend had come to the home when they failed to reach Clement by phone after several attempts.

Police say during the friend’s frantic 911 call the child was described as having difficulty breathing, unconscious, limp, with purple lips and “white stuff all over her face.” Police also say the child could be heard gasping for air in the background.

The child is now being treated for an overdose after rescuers transported the child to a local hospital. Officials say the child is expected to make a full recovery.

Investigators with Landis PD searched Clements home and found multiple drugs and drug paraphernalia inside.

Clement was arrested and charged with Felony Child Abuse by Neglect, two counts of Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Substance, one count of a Schedule IV Controlled Substance, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

She is being held in Rowan County under a $90,000 secured bond.

This video is no longer available. BOONE, N.C. — Police have released the 911 call made after a woman and her husband discovered the body of missing Appalachian State University student Anna Smith.

“My husband and I are out here. We came up the hillside and we believe we have found the body of Anna Smith,” said the caller.

Investigators say Anna Smith’s body was found in a heavily wooded area off Poplar Grove Road Saturday.

Officials conducted an autopsy on Smith’s body Monday at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. However, the results have not been released at this time. Smith was last seen on September 2nd.

Police say they do not believe foul play was involved him her death. Boone police chief Dana Crawford says, “At this point we do not have direct information that there is foul play. In fact, there are factors to indicate that Ms. Smith was intent on harming herself. I know this is difficult for family and friends to hear, but these are facts.”

Crawford went on to say a handwritten letter was found with Smith’s body. Police believe Smith wrote the letter but plan to have a forensic analysis done to confirm that information.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department has released the 911 call from the officer involved shooting that left an unarmed man dead.

According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, Officer Randall Kerrick has been charged with voluntary manslaughter after he shot and killed Jonathan Ferrell on Saturday. Evidence revealed that Ferrell did advance on Officer Kerrick however authorities say the officer did not have a lawful right to discharge his weapon.

Detectives say the investigation has shown that Officer Kerrick fired his weapon 12 times and struck Mr. Ferrell 10 times resulting in his death. The fact that Officer Kerrick discharged his weapon and that Mr. Ferrell was unarmed were some of the factors included in the decision to charge Officer Kerrick with voluntary manslaughter police say.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department released an earlier statement saying “that this is a very unfortunate incident and it has devastated a family as well as caused a great deal of sadness and anxiety in our organization”.

On Saturday, police say they received a breaking and entering call at a home on Reedy Creek Road. A woman said she had called 911 after a male subject had knocked on her front door. The woman said she opened the front door, believing it was her husband coming home from work. Once she realized it was not her husband, she immediately closed the door and called 911.

Investigators believe Ferrell was trying to get help after wrecking his car on Reedy Creek Road. Police say, Ferrell stood outside the door for awhile and continued to attempt to gain the woman’s attention.

When officers arrived they discovered Ferrell a short distance from the caller’s home matching the description provided by the 911 caller. Upon the officers exiting their vehicles Mr. Ferrell immediately ran toward the officers. Officer Thornell Little deployed his taser at Ferrell but it was unsuccessful. Investigators revealed that Mr. Ferrell continued to run towards Officer Randall Kerrick, who had his service weapon drawn. Officer Kerrick discharged several rounds striking Mr. Ferrell multiple times. Mr. Ferrell was pronounced deceased on scene by medic.
