In this episode, Joseph and Lee discuss, "The Grand Inquisitor," a chapter from Dostoevsky's novel The Brothers Karamzov. One of the brothers, Ivan, throws down a gauntlet, claiming that, even if this is God's world, he owes God no obeisance. We discuss Ivan's mutiny, the relationship between the Church and Jesus's prophetic message, and whether human beings need authoritarian mysteries to lead good lives.
(Technical Note: This was the first episode we recorded. So, the format is different than the rest of the episodes and the volume on the recording is not ideal. We have a solution for the problem in future episodes.)
