Gunny Sodhi’s family roots in Ayurvedic medicine stretch across generations, but the sudden death of his 16-year-old brother lead him on an unexpected path of self-discovery. With the help of time-tested Ayurvedic remedies, meditation and yoga, he pulled himself out of a deep depression & anxiety. Gunny had experienced the healing potential of Mother Nature first- hand and out of a desire to help change people’s lives, gave birth to this podcast and YouVeda. This podcast is your guide to a balanced, thriving, and healthy lifestyle, incorporating the simple principles and wisdom of Ayurveda.
I'm joined this week by Heather Ivany, renowned holistic practitioner teaching yoga, meditation, and Akashic reading. Heather has been offering private and public classes, workshops, and retreats for over 20 years.
Heather had a career as a firefighter when she decided to teach herself yoga by reading The Woman’s Book of Yoga and Health by Linda Sparrowe. She went on to yoga teacher training in Victoria, B.C. The study of yoga has helped Heather to develop a softer, more feminine side of herself, contrasting with the more masculine energy she cultivated before.
Heather has become popular for saying that we can use resistance constructively as our ally. All of us have blind spots and can be susceptible to being swayed by resistance. Heather points out that resistance is tough to rationalize with and believes that the best way to deal with resistance is to create an intention that is more powerful than resistance.
Along with ways to deal with resistance, Heather will share the routines and nonnegotiables that keep her centered and aligned with her purpose.
In this episode, we will discuss:
Heather's mentorship program, Unlocking You, combines innovative methods to help individuals connect to their higher self, align with their soul's purpose, and stay on track even when they are being swayed. The four-month program starts on April 14th. Heather also offers private programs year-round.

Today I am so excited to share with you the top three things I learned from attending Tony Robbins’ live event: Unleash the Power Within & Business Mastery! I truly believe it can really shift your point of view, can help you create a breakthrough, and possibly save you tons of time, and even thousands of dollars! 1- Importance of your State: The number one thing that Tony Robbins talks about is how important your state is. Tony Robbins’ philosophy is that everything starts with your state. Everything starts with your physiology, how you feel, how you are standing, how you breathe because that state creates that momentum that will give you the fuel to take motivated action! 2- The Personal Story: The story is the personal narrative, it often keeps us from finding the keys that can help us be most effective and transform the quality of our life. If you ever find yourself in a low state, think of what you're grateful for and feel it in your heart, put yourself into a good state and then go crush your goals. Get yourself in a better state first and then replace the old story with a more empowering story! 3- The New Strategy: The third and most important thing is a new strategy. How do I get to that result? Implement a new strategy! No more trial and error, instead look for human resources, talk to experts, take that class; figure out what they're doing that makes them be on top of their game. Take that recipe that you've learned implement it in your life and then go get the results that you want. There is so much to learn from Tony Robbins and from his books and workshops. Since attending in person, my wife and I are continuing his course in business mastery virtually. I am glad I get to share it with you. I hope you enjoy this episode. Thank you for listening. Wishing you the best of health, Gunny Sodhi

In today’s episode of the Balanced Being Podcast, I want to talk about two concepts that stayed with me after attending an orthodontic conference called Orthoprenuers, I attended with my wife.
Here are two concepts that resonated with me:
The concept of proximity resonance: You become the average of five people you surround yourself with. These people challenge you, think big, get the results you want, and are doing something substantial with their lives.
When you put yourself around such people you will feel uncomfortable and change the way you have been doing things.
If you can do these three correctly, you will become the average of all these five. So, think about the five people you are around, and if they are helping you push yourself to achieve your goals. Share your goals with them and see if they support you or hold you down.
I hope you enjoy this episode. Thank you for listening.
Wishing you the best of health,
Gunny Sodhi.
In today’s episode of “Balanced Being Podcast”, I want to share my experience with a very interesting workshop by Robin Sharma. I attended this training session and at the end of it, he asked the attendees to do something very fascinating. He asked us to think about the last day of our lives and how we would want to be remembered. This question was not meant to set a somber mood but to really make us think!
So, I thought I should talk about it in today’s episode.
Having practiced this myself, I can testify that it is an impactful exercise and will prove extremely helpful to you. I hope you enjoy this episode.
Wishing you the best of health,
Gunny Sodhi.

What is the meaning of feeling gratitude and why is it important to be thankful for everything we have. On today's podcast, I'll talk about a small shift that I did in my gratitude practice, that made a huge difference to how I feel and even how I manifest my goals.
The secret, in my opinion, revolves around "honing" in on the feeling of gratitude and not only thinking about it but truly feeling grateful and seeing if you can carry that throughout the day.
Here are some of the things which I discuss:

Today I want to discuss the importance of sleep through an Ayurvedic lens. Interestingly, Ayurveda considers sleep to be one of the “Three Pillars of Life,” accompanying proper digestion and appropriate sexual activity. Despite how important sleep is for our minds and bodies, many of us experience sleep disturbances or disorders, impeding our ability to get sufficient quality sleep.
According to Ayurveda, sleep disorders are primarily vata disorders, and worry and anxiety can easily disturb one’s sleep. Disturbed pitta can also play a role in causing sleep disturbances.
Ayurveda emphasizes a healthy lifestyle, which includes maintaining healthy routines for beginning one’s day, but creating and maintaining healthy bedtime routines is equally important.
If you’re someone that does not wake up feeling rested, it may be time to take an audit of your sleep and consider implementing some of the recommendations from Ayurveda that I will delve into in this episode.
In this episode I will share with you:

Today I want to talk about an interesting concept that I pondered over the weekend. It was that our minds can be our worst enemy or our best friend. It is discipline that keeps both sides leveled. Instill discipline that allows what impacts you and what you must ignore. This will help break the pattern that is stopping you from achieving what you want.
This is what I cover:
I hope you enjoy today’s episode of the ‘The Balanced Being Podcast’.
Wishing you the best of health.
Gunny Sodhi.

Today I want to share with you the lesson I learned last week about the power of the present movement. Due to the unexpected weather in Texas we were unable to return home as planned and in that moment I was reminded to trust the universe, the higher power to guide me and be in the present moment.
This is what I cover:
As a note here is the serenity Prayer: “God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference.”
Wishing you the best of health,
Gunny Sodhi.
I want to begin today’s episode by sharing something that happened over the weekend. An MBA friend of mine was sharing how well his career was going. As much as I was happy for him, I realized that part of me was filled with jealousy. This was a strange feeling for me as this was a friend who I supported fully and who I knew would support me as well. While this is very personal for me, I am sharing because by uncovering things like this, we can learn from each other.
The jealousy did not feel good. It weighed my heart down. However, being aware of the feeling of jealousy taught me that by asking myself deep questions, I was able to get rid of the negative emotion.
The first thing I did was to recognize the emotion of jealousy. Then, I proceeded to do something about it. Doing something in this situation is asking myself a series of deep questions that shifted how I was feeling. I asked myself why I was feeling that way? Why I could not be happy for my friend from a place of pure love and admiration? The more I inquired, the more the jealousy faded and left only love, admiration and respect.
One of my mentors who teaches about energy, told me that jealousy is a human emotion that we all feel once in a while when someone shares something they have achieved. However, instead of defaulting to jealousy, he advises that we wish that person more abundance and more prosperity. We should do this because the energy we send out to the universe is the same energy we will receive. Thus, when we wish prosperity and abundance, that is what we will get back.
Asking deep questions will remove the jealousy and comparison. From my situation, I learned about the emotion of jealousy. We must decipher that we are not our thoughts or emotions but observers of them. When we do this, we will be able to let them pass through or be able to change them. This lesson and technique can apply to all negative emotions and not just jealousy, so give it a shot and experience the peace and freedom it can bring you.
Wishing you the best of health,
Gunny Sodhi.
Today I am going back to the book “Awaken the Giant Within” by Tony Robbins.I wanted to share with you all the power of asking deep questions to alter your state. A very interesting concept that has the ability to very quickly change how you feel in an instant by asking a certain set of questions.
Tony says - “The answers are in the questions themselves.”
This is what I cover:
When we dive deeper into the goals set for 2021, asking these types of questions will allow us to grow and resolve and get closer to achieving your goals.
Wishing you the best of health,
Gunny Sodhi.

As the holidays approach us, I wanted to reconnect and focus on the power of gratitude.
What makes gratitude so special is that it can be seen as a form of meditation and can make you realize, what you take for granted, can be seen as a luxury and dream to others. Gratitude has the power to humble you and provide you perspective.
There are many ways to practice gratitude. We will go over seven scientifically proven benefits of gratitude that will motivate you to give thanks year-round.
Developing an "attitude of gratitude" is one of the simplest ways to improve your satisfaction with life- Amy Morin

Today we will take a look at a Harvard study that states, “Embracing community helps us live longer and happier and could be a greater measure of overall happiness and health than even our genes.”
The study begins by tracking the health of 268 Harvard sophomores in 1938 during the great depression. These individuals were followed for nearly 80 years!! The study was led by Robert Waldinger, director of the study, a psychiatrist at Massachusetts General Hospital and a professor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School.
This is what I share from the study:
“The surprising finding is that our relationships and how happy we are in our relationships has a powerful influence on our health,” - Robert Waldinger

Today my guest is Trisha Swift. She is a whole person care expert, and she has an interesting perspective on integrative medicine that I want to share with you. She is a passionate healthcare executive with a mission to transform healthcare into a data driven, high value, safe, and cost-effective delivery system.
Trisha began her career as a bedside care nurse and continued her education to the Doctorate level, where she got to experience a lot of the sick care side of things and about a decade ago she transitioned into the quality and safety realm. She began working to improve things and prevent infections, prevent harm and reduce errors. Upon analyzing the data and performance of the healthcare system, she realized that things were not getting better. Seeing that we are still in disease management; symptom management modality in healthcare led Trisha into the preventative side of the healthcare industry but she still wanted to help, improve and transform so she started looking at the root of the problems - what is making us sick in the first place?
Trisha shares following with us:
Trisha has a passion for using data and technology to drive improvement, organizational transformation, cost savings, and informed decision making. She strives to create a person centered and holistic care delivery infrastructure in order to positively impact health and wellbeing across populations.
Today my guest is Jasmin Jenkins who I share the very deep theme of grief with. Jasmin is an Integrative Grief Guide and is the founder of Fall Up. Many people who have experienced loss still have a hard time processing grief, understanding what grief means and what it does to the body and how to get over it and more importantly, honor it.
Jasmin experienced loss when she lost her mother and brother. Jasmin lost her mother, when she was 15 and her brother's sudden death 10 years later shook her to the core. Since then she has been on a very intentional healing journey but, “there was always a layer that was still choking on”, only a few years ago she found peace and once she was actively integrating with grief and healing is when she found her unique path of service as an Integrative Grief Guide. And it was through healing herself of her grief that she arrived at the place where she knew that she was meant to serve others in their healing.
This is what we discuss in depth:
Jasmin offers grief guidance services through her company Fall Up—a community built on healing conversations and authentic connections, rooted in the understanding that through shared experiences and non-judgmental listening to others working through grief, we return to and heal parts of ourselves.
About Jasmin -
Jasmin Jenkins is an Integrative Grief Guide and the founder of Fall Up, a community created to support people navigating the spectrum of grief. In her work, she brings her clients into the invitations within their grief journeys. Jasmin believes that healing is a co-creative process, and it is her deepest joy to support each person she works with in welcoming grief as a profound invitation to transformation.

Today my guest Aditya Jaykumar who goes by A.J. is someone who shares my desire to spread the knowledge of healing.
AJ’s journey started at an early age; he grew up seeing spirituality as a whole and not being restricted to one way of thinking; he was encouraged to be open and ask questions by his parents and this was the seed that led him to start his spiritual journey.
During his adolescence he had a motorcycle accident that changed his perspective of life. It was one of the ways the universe wanted him to awaken because he was forced to think of his identity. Later on in life he came across chakra visualization and through it he experienced healing and he thought “if this is possible in 10 minutes what else is out there.” This led him to start his own podcast, My Seven Chakras.
AJ is a certified Breathwork instructor and he loves using ancient Yogic breathing practices (Pranayama) with rhythmical brainwave music and guided journeying to help people calm their mind, relax their nervous system, experience deep states of bliss and ultimately discover their life's purpose.
This is what we discuss in depth:
The power of the breath is endless, it's free, it's available anytime and the benefits are instant.

Hi guys! This is an important episode for me because I truly believe that “peace of mind,” is the greatest asset you could ever have. We have the power and ability to raise our vibrations, control where our energy goes and who receives it and can take responsibility to remind ourselves of the present moment.
Today, I will be discussing in greater length, the three things that I do daily to help maintain peace of mind:
I encourage you to listen and understand how important doing these on a daily basis is for your peace of mind. Let’s find balance and stay positive, together.

Believe it or not, we are now half way through 2020 and it is a good reminder to check in on the goals we had set at the start of the year.
Have they shifted, pivoted, have you given up? Or have you stayed on track?
I agree that 2020, has been the most unique year for probably everyone and perhaps a lot of these events may have thrown you off track or stopped you completely from pursuing your goals.
But through it all there is a lesson. We have learned how important our health is, how important empathy towards one another is and how at the end, “change,” is a natural constant better to be welcomed than resisted.
In today’s podcast, I would like to take these lessons and apply them to our goals; revisit your goals and start to make progress. There is still time to achieve your goals.
How do you want to end 2020? Take a half year Audit, assess and execute. Start moving forward again.
“A goal without a deadline is just a dream” - Rober Herjavec
In today's episode, I talk to Dr. Jessica Peatross about how our childhood, surroundings and nutrition can affect our immune system.
After going through a severe car accident as a teenager where she sustained a fractured back, Dr. Jessica Peatross pushed herself to understand the science of healing and to provide better treatment of chronic pain than what could be provided with addictive narcotics. Dr. Jess is driven to change others’ lives through empowerment and true education about health through her practice and she shares with us the following:
This is a very fascinating talk as Dr. Peatross has been very vocal during this pandemic on how we hold the power and can begin to make changes to not only support our immune systems, but also positively impact our overall health.
I hope you enjoy this episode!
Wishing you the best of health.
Gunny Sodhi.
About Dr. Jessica Peatross:
Dr. Jess is a board-certified medical doctor and a certified Gerson Practitioner. She is an expert in the areas of stealth infections, environmental toxicity, regenerative medicine, ozone, and cannabis. Her passion lies in uncovering the mystery behind the chronic illness, whether that be stealth infections, heavy metals, stress/trauma or other environmental toxicities. There are real, root cause answers for WHY the body might be malfunctioning.
Trained in medicine at the University of Louisville, Dr. Jess experienced what many of her patients experienced: deep anxiety, hormonal imbalances, and adrenal dysfunction. She sought answers to uncover the root cause of disease – something she thought she had learned in medical school.
After working as an M.D. in a hospital for 6 years, Dr. Jess realized that she needed to investigate alternatives to today’s modern medical industry, which “treats every ill with a pill.” She became trained in Gerson Therapy, functional medicine, nutrigenomics, and ozone in her efforts to help her patients with chronic disease solutions.

In this episode, a special father figure to me joins the podcast. Dr. Kirti Kalidas, MD. We discuss Dr. Kalidas' journey as a physician toward wellness and healing and specifically his shift from a more Western philosophy to an Eastern one.
Dr. Kalidas moved from South Africa in the late 1990s to Washington D.C. to do his medical residency. After practicing as an Internist for over 11 years and while searching how to address the root cause, instead of merely masking the symptoms he learned about Naturopathy. A pivotal point in his practice, he went back to school for Naturopathic Medicine and for the last 20 years he has focused on chronic illnesses, hormones, cancer amongst others.
Dr. Kalidas shares with us his approach to healing, here are some highlights:
Dr. Kalidas also shares with us some things we can do during this unprecedented times
Here are some suggestions:
Dr. Kalidas does journaling daily in gratitude. Today is the only day we have, yesterday was an experience, tomorrow is something to look forward to, but we only have Now. The most challenging thing for a Covid patient is taking a breath- lack of oxygen. That is the biggest threat, and the fear that it creates. This pandemic brings a new realization to be grateful for the air we breathe.
Dr Kalidas' take away from chronic illness is don't be stuck on one diagnosis. Be cognizant of all foundational work; take a step back and look at it as a multitude of things rather than one thing and approach healing from a different perspective. In his Orlando practice he treats the whole person, with a functional approach to provide a bridge to health, hope and healing.

In this episode, I am super excited to be joined by Ian Lopatin, co-founder of Spiritual Gangster. We discussed his journey on beginning Spiritual Gangster and his insight on creating a business around your passion.
As a law student in the early 90s, Ian encountered yoga and it changed his path. being a sign from the Universe that inspired him to create a chain of studios that combined his love for hip hop music with his practice. Through this, he generated a local movement grounded in connectedness and inclusivity. Ian and his wife eventually felt called to grow this movement and started Spiritual Gangster, a yoga-inspired clothing brand, with the desire to share their practice with a global community. They designed each collection with the intention to inspire high vibration living both on and off the mat. What started off as a passion project has now scaled into a successful business, inspiring a global community of Spiritual Gangsters.
Ian discusses what it is like to be an entrepreneur and visionary and discusses what things we can do now due to Covid-19 restrictions.
We discuss in greater detail the following with Ian:
We also talk about how important it is to have a vision for your business. In times of change stay disciplined and create habits and rituals that serve you as much as you can. Be adaptable and have the right mindset; this is the root of all success and learnings.
As co-founder of Spiritual Gangster Ian has practiced gratitude, he has learned that as you grow and expand to become healthier you become wealthier. It is karmic when you raise peoples' vibrations and it comes back. His brand is not only clothing, it is creating a feeling, making people feel better, spreading good vibes and prosperity.
Hope you enjoy and find value in this episode!

Hi guys! This is a special one for me because, quite honestly, I have been away from podcasting for a while now and it feels good get back at it.
With the way things are right now, I feel there is an universal anxiety going around. This lead me to pick up the phone and speak to many of my mentors, friends and family members who are still able to be productive and positive during these times and see what they are doing to have the outlook they do. The interesting thing was that, they all had this "one" thing in common which I talk about in the podcast.
Join me this week as I decided to do a "newsfast" and after speaking to many mentors I was encouraged to get back into creating and focusing on my creativity. When you focus on creative tasks your stress levels drop, you bring awareness to staying present and you are able to move forward.
I will discuss some ways to exercise your creativity such as:
Remember you "can" control the negativity intake, take a break; explore your creativity.
I encourage you to go within - Find balance and stay positive!
Wishing you the best of health
In today's episode, I talk about how recently more than ever we are paying close attention to our immune system.
With the Coronavirus hitting very close to home, keeping our immune system in balance and strong is key to maintaining balance.

Remember the most important thing to do during this time is to stay calm and support you body in maintaining balance. Make sure to take safe precautions for you and your family and consume news and information from reliable resources.
Wishing you the best of health.
Join us today as our co-founder, Dr. Kirat Sodhi, explains her Ayurvedic journey and what she thought of Ayurveda before her marriage to Gunny and afterwards.
She discusses the following:
Enjoy and wishing you the best of health.
How seriously do you take your sleep when it comes to your health, performance and overall happiness? That is what I wanted to tackle this week as this is a very heavily discussed topic. But I wanted to dive deep and see what Ayurveda says about sleep and how it can impact the mind, body & soul.
I cover the following:
I hope you guys enjoy and really take the time to evaluate your sleep and how important it is for your overall health.
Wishing you the best of health.
When was the last time you thought about self-care? In this episode, we dive deep into how important incorporating a daily self-care ritual can be for obtaining a balanced life. Gunny cover's how self-care is not a one size fits all approach, but rather something that should feel intuitively in alignment with your mind and body.
Learn how self-care covers the physical, mental, social, emotion and spiritual elements and how you can find what works best for your specific mind/body type.
We hope you enjoy this episode and it helps you incorporate the right self-care ritual for you!
Wishing you the best of health.
This is something that is very near and dear to me because I was incredibly impacted by grief years ago when my brother passed. The emotions, thoughts, fears and physical sensations can be overwhelming and scary, but if you begin to see grief for what it truly is, the bodies natural response to "change" you can let it run its course and not get stuck in it, but rather come out having a better understanding of how the mind and body work.
In this episode, I share my experience with grief and the "ONE" thing that helped me completely pivot and honor and move through my grief. I also offer tips on what we can naturally do to help us move through the grief and regain the balance. I also felt, it was important for me to share this as I found many around me struggling with the recent death of Kobe Bryant, his daughter and the other individuals involved in the helicopter crash, that I felt like I wanted to share my experience and hopefully through it, provide help and value to those who are struggling at the moment.
I hope you find value and most importantly are able to form a new relationship with the grieving process.
Wishing you the best of health!
This week, I had the pleasure of interviewing one of my oldest friends and more like a brother, Mick Nijher. CPA.
We discussed the importance of financial balance and how we can start the conversation around finances and begin to take control over them and not let them have control over us. We discussed how finances can be a very stressful topic, but how the stress around money and finances once understood and educated can be relieved.
In addition, we discuss what it really means to take out a credit card and how they can be rewarding and some of the do's and don'ts around buying your first home.
Finally - we discuss how important it is to have a plan around money/finances and getting in the habit of doing a monthly budget which helps you know where your money is going and if you are in alignment with your financial goals.
