When I tried to explain life in Manhattan—living in towers, riding elevators—they looked at me with confusion and even pity. The tribal chief said, "We'll pray for you. We wouldn't want to live like that." Why? Because it was beyond their frame of reference. They couldn't conceive of it—so they rejected it. And we do the same thing with God. When the Holy Spirit tries to speak to us about His calling, His promises, His purpose, we often respond with, "That's too far. That's not for me." We limit the Holy One of Israel. We live at the border of unbelief—not because God's plans aren't real, but because we can't picture ourselves stepping into them. Friend, ask the Holy Spirit today to enlarge your vision. Let Him take you farther than your skill set, your past, or your pain have ever allowed you to imagine. Let's stop saying, "Not me. Not here. Not now." Elijah was standing at a cross roads just like we are today. The question is if the Lord is God, then follow Him. If He is not, then Satan is, so follow him. We, as Christians, cannot straddle the fence. Elijah is calling us to return to the wonder and excitement and commitment that so characterized our walk with Christ when we first met Him.
Zerubbabel was one of the Babylonian captives. God placed his hand upon this man and chose him to sit in an exalted position in the restored kingdom and through his life to paint a graphic picture of the one who sits even today at the right hand of the Father.
