A few new Christmas movies/series have come out this year. 8-bit Christmas, a sort of modern retelling of A Christmas Story starring Neil Patrick Harris, who narrates a story that takes place in the late 1980's where Nintendo Entertainment Systems had people going crazy. 8-bit Christmas has the Coldbow stamp of approval as one of the good ones. Santa Inc also came out this year. Santa Inc is a stop motion animated series about a female elf who wants to shake up the overly white & male Christmas corporation by being the next Santa Claus. Getting into DND can be quite a harrowing task. There's a lot of rules to learn and comfort zones to break out of. DM's won't exactly throw their services at you just so you can play. Neo-Westerns are so hot right now. When the Coen Brothers made their instant classic No Country For Old Men, a new genre was born. Westerns tell the tale of how the west was won. Neo-Westerns effectively show how the west is dead. Hell or High Water is one of these tales. Hell or High Water is a harrowing, riveting, often funny story of two good ole boys from Texas trying to rob banks and get rich...but why? They are pursued by two aging Texas Rangers that are watching the West slowly die around them, and are quickly realizing the world they once knew is gone. Written by Taylor Sheridan, this movie is actually the second picture in what is known as the Frontier Trilogy. The first being the thriller Sicario, followed by the heart breaking Wind River. The Frontier Trilogy focuses on the politics, economics, and Environmental destruction that is the actual cause of killing the New Frontier, or what we know as The West. Did we enjoy this film? Inception (2010) was Christopher Nolan's smash hit that immediately followed The Dark Knight. Inception boasts an all star cast of Leonardo DiCaprio, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Ellen Page, Tom Hardy, Cillian Murphy, Marion Cotillard, Ken Watanabe, and Michael Caine. Iron Man 3 (2013) followed the massively successful Avengers (2012) - but didn't quite live up to the hype many were expecting or hoping. It is considered by some (Coldbow's Marvel Stack episode, for example) to be one of the worst films in the MCU, and not quite a great sendoff for the Iron Man trilogy. Directed by Shane Black (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, The Predator), this is the first and only Iron Man film not directed by Jon Favreau (Jungle Book, The Lion King). The guys have some disagreements with the film, but ultimately, does it deserve a second chance?

It was the early 90's. Most kids were playing video games on the SNES or the Sega Genesis. One game came along and rocked everyone's world. That video game was even the catalyst that started rating video games like films because of its violence. Apparently parents didn't like seeing people fighting to the death and being impaled by spikes? The video game they were referring to was Mortal Kombat. Not long after the game had 2-3 versions, they made a film. It had a great soundtrack, decent choreography, terrible CGI, and amazing sets and locations, but ultimately it's considered a terrible movie. A new season comes with more new segments! Disney has purchased Fox. With it, comes the Marvel content they own - such as the X-Men and The Fantastic 4. To everyone's elation, the current box office giant that is the Marvel Cinematic Universe can now include more beloved characters! This doesn't come without it's issues though, as now The MCU has to recast The X-Men. Characters like Professor X, Storm, Magneto, and Wolverine are all going to receive new faces. The Coldbros review The Fall (2006) - a film by Tarsem Singh starring Lee Pace. This is the first of this type of “special” episode. Since starting this podcast we’ve all had so many ideas for episodes, but not all of them fit into the mold of what The Coldbow Podcast is. So we’ve decided to experiment with special episodes, which are outside the main body of episodes. This is the first in a series of such special episodes — revolving around the music of Sabaton, a Swedish power metal band.
There are a few of us Coldbros that really like history, and while none of us can claim any real acumen, we’ve been wanting to share our passion with you. I (Scott) just so happened to be listening to another podcast that featured a song by Sabaton and I fell in love with the band. With even a cursory glance at their song titles you’ll notice a pattern, they’re all based on historic events and/or figures.
The first such title in Spotify’s “Popular” list is The Last Stand. A song about a small force of ancient warrior/body guards, tasked with protecting the Pope. This force is The Swiss Guard and they’re still around today in Vatican City. Turns out they have a long history, In 1527 these brave men fought and died against a much superior force. And thanks to a heroic last stand they were able to save the Pope and add to their legacy.

Troy’s dumb joke from Episode 3 comes full circle as we review and discuss a dumb movie with tons of cameos. That movie is Run Ronnie Run (2002) starring David Cross (Arrested Development) and Bob Odenkirk (Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul). Hilarity ensues, tears might have been shed, and we all gained a deeper understanding of each other.
