As promised, here is the first episode of our new series focused on our scene's local heroes. First up is Middlesbrough's Ste Guthrie.
It's a known fact that there we all have in out local scenes, them few chosen ones that have tirelessly performed, supported and nurtured the dance floors in their areas. Local resident DJ's who have put nights on at a loss or barely breaking even just to get the DJ talent they want behind the decks not just just for themselves but for the grinning, sweaty dance floors they've meticulously curated over a built up time.
Coming from the North East scene, we thought what better way to start this exploration of the unsung hero than to go to our own roots. Around the Teeside area of the UK there has always been a wealth of talent. Going back to the legendary Havana or Philmores then The Arena, Culture at Tall Trees or Sugar Shack at The Empire to name but a few, the area has spawned some incredible DJ talent over the years.
Hailing from the steely province of Middlesbrough known for it's industrial capabilities, love of football, connection to the River Tees and the infamous 'Parmo', Ste Guthrie is a name well respected in the area of Teeside. We've seen Ste spin a few times over the years and his close ties with the likes of Denney (who is also from these parts) has took him to perform at legendary clubs like Back to Basics in Leeds where Ste also studied music at Leeds Met. We sat down with Ste for a quick chat about his life and DJ career recently just before he recorded a live DJ mix for us, here's what went down.
The pairing of Dachshund and Eddie Niguel are our next premiere as we take am exclusive look at 'DXE' from 'We Are Friends' EP on Integrity Records.
Swiss producer Dachshund joins forces with Integrity Records head honcho Eddie Niguel this January to give us the classy 'We Are Friends' EP. Dachshund real name Oliver Doret has been for over a decade producing high end minimal house with nuances of techno which has landed him on labels like Noir and Nick Curly's 8bit Records.
Eddie Niguel is a Singapore-based Dj/producer who has been prominent in the Asian underground scene for quite some time. Supported in the past by the likes of KiNK, Disclosure and Heidi, his 'Journey' EP from back in 2015 on Midnight Shift Records a particular highlight in the hard working Singaporean's career so far.
This new track 'EDX' features as part of the upcoming EP 'We Are Friends' out January 21st via Eddie's own Integrity Records. The track itself is a deeply burning house groove with classic 4/4 lines laced with weaponised acid-like bass lines. The swing is inherently perfectly creating a instant head nodding whilst flavouring the sound is evolving, bright synth hooks, shimmering atmospheric pads and quick female vocal hits. This is made for the dance floor.
The 'We Are Friends' EP will be released on January 21st, 2019 via Integrity Records. Pre order here.
