Tony and Jaime dive headfirst into a whirlwind of samurai showdowns, emotional stoicism, and the eternal struggle of not getting revived in Battlefield 6. Tony passionately explains why Ghost of Yotei turns you into a multitasking sword-switching ninja, while Jaime battles childhood flashbacks triggered by long reload times. Together they compare Assassin’s Creed, gush over beautifully crafted open worlds, and recount battlefield tragedies—like accidentally gifting the enemy team a tank. By the time the conversation shifts to the chaos, glory, and accidental helicopter crashes of Battlefield 6, you’ll be laughing, nodding, and reconsidering your life choices… or at least your game queue.

TEXT US YOUR THOUGHTS!

Hosts Tony Sisk and Jaime G kick off the "video game fall season" by discussing two major new releases: the highly anticipated indie sequel Hollow Knight: Silksong and the AAA looter-shooter Borderlands 4.

Jaime shares his enthusiastic impressions of Silksong, highlighting its six-year development history, its origins as an intended DLC for Hollow Knight that grew into a full standalone sequel, and its budget price point of $20. He praises its Metroidvania genre execution, comparing its difficulty to Elden Ring, noting the lack of a ramp-up for new players, and describing the protagonist Hornet's high mobility and fluid movement as a major gameplay addition.

Tony offers his initial thoughts on Borderlands 4, which he picked up as a physical copy on launch day. He states that the game is "very good" and already "easily" better than Borderlands 3. Tony praises the narrative, specifically highlighting the memorable NPC characters and the investment in their stories, which he feels was lacking in the previous installment.

The hosts note the interesting contrast between the highly-rated, budget indie title (Silksong) and the large-scale AAA release (Borderlands 4), setting up a future discussion comparing their reception and player count, especially on platforms like Steam.

Show Notes

Podcast Title: Good Game Radio

Topics: Video Game Fall Season Kickoff, Hollow Knight: Silksong Release and Review, Borderlands 4 Initial Impressions.

🕸️ Hollow Knight: Silksong (06:38)

  • Release & Background:
  • Developed and published by Team Cherry, an Australian indie team.
  • Released on September 4th, 2025, after being announced on February 14th, 2019 (a six-year wait).
  • Originally planned as a DLC for the 2017 Kickstarter-funded Hollow Knight, but its scope grew into a full, standalone sequel.
  • Price: Great price tag at $20.
  • Jaime's Impressions:
  • Genre & Difficulty: A fantastic job in the Metroidvania genre; compared to Elden Ring for its high difficulty and lack of an "easy mode." The game offers little ramp-up, assuming players are familiar with the first title.
  • Protagonist: You play as Hornet; the game follows her own story and plot.
  • Gameplay Mechanics: Praised for its high mobility—Hornet quickly unlocks dash, air-dash, and ledge-grabbing abilities, making her feel like a "little Spider-Man."
  • Exploration: Features a challenging and intentionally unhelpful map system, forcing players to learn the kingdom and revisit old areas upon gaining new abilities (core Metroidvania loop).
  • Ratings: Sitting at a 92 positive score on Metacritic.

🔫 Borderlands 4 (01:25 & 23:16)

  • Tony's Impressions (10 hours in):
  • Overall: "Very good," and "easily" better than Borderlands 3.
  • Narrative/Characters: A huge step up from Borderlands 3. The NPC characters are memorable and provide a strong foundation for the story, recalling the quality of characters from Borderlands 1 (e.g., TK Baja).
  • Loot: Not "stingy." Plenty of loot and guns are dropping, including numerous Epic (purple) tier weapons early on.
  • General Reception: Currently sitting with an 84 Metacritic score, which Tony argues is still "above good" and respectable.

Does Metal Gear Solid Delta nail the landing or is it just a gorgeous-looking disappointment?

We’re dropping into the jungle to give our full, unfiltered review of the MGS3 remake. The visuals are stunning, but as one host put it: the controls are still "janky." 😬

We discuss:

The high bar set by the original.

Why a pure graphical upgrade isn't always enough.

Is the inconsistent performance and clunky feel a dealbreaker for fans?

What do adulting and gaming consoles have in common? Join Jaime and me as we navigate the quirks of living on our own, starting with the revelation that a trash can is more crucial than we ever imagined. Our chat then power-ups into the gaming universe, where we dissect Xbox's bold move towards digital gaming and Game Pass subscriptions, especially under the Black Friday spotlight.

Our conversation takes on the pricing terrain of Xbox Game Pass and its ripple effects on Black Friday deals—or the lack thereof—for Xbox consoles and Call of Duty games. We ponder whether Xbox is shifting its identity from console maker to a game publisher, hinting at a future where Halo might embrace the Unreal Engine for cross-platform harmony. Jaime also shares his misadventures in compiling a Black Friday deals list, battling the last-minute announcements from major retailers.

In our grand finale, we tackle the coveted title of "Game of the Year," questioning the ingredients that make a game truly exceptional. With contenders Final Fantasy Rebirth, and Astro Bot in the mix, we scrutinize whether DLCs should earn a spot on the podium. An unexpected entry, Balatro, stirs the pot, making us question why some standout titles are sidelined.

In this episode today we’re going to revisit The Callisto Protocol, a sci-fi survival horror game that came out a year ago. The Callisto Protocol is a spiritual successor to the Dead Space series, and it takes place on a prison facility on the moon of Callisto, where a mysterious virus has turned the inmates into grotesque monsters. You play as Jacob Lee, a cargo pilot who has to fight his way through the horrors and uncover the truth behind the outbreak.

The Callisto Protocol was praised for its amazing graphics, sound design, and atmosphere, but it also received some criticism for its repetitive gameplay, linear level design, and lack of innovation. So, how does the game hold up after one year? Has it improved with patches and updates? Is it worth playing or replaying in 2023? Let’s find out.

Hey everyone, and welcome to the podcast! Today, we're going to be talking about why physical video games are superior to digital only.

Now, I know what you're thinking. "Digital games are more convenient. I can just download them and start playing right away." And that's true. But there are a lot of benefits to buying physical games as well.

For one thing, physical games are usually cheaper. You can often find them on sale at brick-and-mortar stores, or you can even trade in your old games to get a discount on new ones.

Another benefit of physical games is that you can resell them. If you get tired of a game, you can sell it back to a store or online retailer and get some of your money back. With digital games, you're stuck with them forever.

Physical games also take up less space on your hard drive. If you have a limited amount of storage space, physical games are the way to go.

Finally, physical games just feel more satisfying to own. There's something about having a physical copy of a game that you can hold in your hands and look at. It's a tangible reminder of all the fun you've had playing it.

So, if you're looking for the best way to experience video games, I recommend buying physical copies. They're cheaper, you can resell them, they take up less space, and they just feel better.

Thanks for listening!

In addition to the benefits mentioned above, physical video games also offer a number of other advantages, including:

The ability to share games with friends and family
The ability to play games offline
The ability to collect rare and unique games
The ability to support your local game store
If you're still on the fence about whether to buy physical or digital video games, I encourage you to give physical games a try. You may be surprised at how much you enjoy them.

E3, the Electronic Entertainment Expo, is the biggest gaming trade show in the world. It's been held every year since 1995, and it's where game publishers and developers from all over the world come to show off their latest games to the public and the press.

But this year, E3 has been cancelled. The decision was made by the Entertainment Software Association (ESA), the organization that puts on the show. The ESA cited a number of reasons for the cancellation, the rising cost of putting on the show, and the increasing popularity of digital-only game announcement.

In this episode, we'll be talking about the cancellation of E3.

We'll also be talking about PSVR2, Dungeons and Dragons and John Wick 4.
