The DEX Show (Digital Employee Experience): A Show for IT Change Makers is dedicated to IT professionals looking to advance the industry by leaps and bounds. IT is changing—you know it, and so do we—and without a healthy dose of curiosity about how the future of IT will affect employee experience of entire companies, traditional workers will be left behind. If you see IT as more than the basement-dwelling, plumber cliche it’s so often portrayed as, this is the podcast for you. Each episode will feature topics such as digital employee experience, IT infrastructure, end user experience management (EUEM), IT analytics, virtualization, the future of work, and more.
What would the workplace look like if we designed out the pointless meetings, performative busyness and endless administrative work? In this Reality Bites episode, the panel takes a recklessly optimistic journey into “Workplace UTOPIA,” imagining a future where AI removes friction without pretending to be human. They debate the end of PowerPoint, fixed job descriptions and the 40-hour week, while exploring creativity, meaningful work, human communication and the surprising value of boredom.
From AI-powered meetings to the Museum of Pointless Work, the conversation asks what we should automate, what must remain human and whether technology can genuinely give us more time to live.

Sam Gantner is back on the show — but this one’s a little different.
We skip our usual “state of the industry” conversation and get into what he’s thinking and postng about instead: experimenting with AI tools, building his own internal apps, and posting some pretty "hot takes" online.
We cover his current AI stack, why he settled on Claude, and how hands-on building has changed the way he thinks about product and leadership. There’s a deeper look at the shift from AI as an assistant to AI as an agent, and what that means for engineers, teams, and how work gets done.
We also get into managing AI vs managing people, why coding still matters (even if AI writes most of it), and the risks of shipping more features just because you can.
Plus: Dune, sci-fi, and whether any of this is slowing down.

Jacob Morgan returns to The DEX Show for another provocative conversation on the future of work, AI, and why 2026 is the year of accountability. Jacob argues that AI is exposing “performative work,” forcing organizations to rethink culture, leadership, and what real value creation looks like. We explore why company culture became too vague, why human judgment matters more than ever, and how leaders can avoid over-relying on AI at the expense of discernment, responsibility, and individuality. It’s a wide-ranging discussion on work, ambition, and the high-stakes reset now unfolding inside modern organizations.

Geoff Wright returns to unpack the messy reality of work in the AI era. From having 400 windows open and feeling less productive, to explaining why AI should fuel curiosity rather than replace human judgment, Geoff brings his usual mix of optimism, humor, and hard-earned perspective. The conversation explores prompt engineering, digital overwhelm, enterprise adoption, and why “being human first” matters more than ever. It is a wide-ranging, thoughtful discussion on anxiety, complexity, and the promise of AI, with a surprisingly funny detour into why the robots might eventually just leave Earth for Pluto.

Tom welcomes Mike Lovewell to explore how digital friction continues to shape the modern workplace. From early days of low awareness to today’s complex, AI-influenced environments, Mike shares how friction has evolved in scale rather than cause. They discuss the growing importance of flow state, the measurable business impact of small disruptions, and why adoption—not just technology—is the key to success. AI emerges as both a solution and a new source of friction, depending on trust and usability. The conversation highlights why employee experience remains the ultimate metric, and why reducing friction is now critical to productivity, retention, and competitive advantage.

In a full-circle moment for The DEX Show, Tom and Tim welcome guest speaker, Forrester’s new Digital Workplace & DEX analyst, Christy Punch, for her first podcast in the role—echoing the show’s very first Forrester guest back in 2020.
The timing is bittersweet: it’s also Tim Flower’s final month as co-host, marking a major transition for the podcast.
Christy draws on two decades as a practitioner to unpack why DEXOps is now essential: post-pandemic tool sprawl, fragmented experiences, and the need to connect experience data to business outcomes. The trio explores cross-functional governance over “one-team ownership,” and Tom and Tim ultimately discuss how agentic AI (and Nexthink Spark) accelerates the shift from reactive support to proactive—and increasingly predictive—experience operations.

Back again for the last installment of this story! Here's the season finale of Tim Flower's brand new IT mystery series, Parallel.
Knowledge is power—until you forget.
In the midst of troubleshooting performance and productivity issues, the team at Zentech found yet another problem – Employees struggling with constant change and not able to leverage the apps they need to get their job done. Across industries, employees are struggling with the relentless pace of technology changes, especially with AI. And I’ve seen it as I travel the world talking with executives and tech leaders – they’re all concerned not only with IT’s ability to transform quickly, without breakage, but also with their employee’s ability to keep up with the pace and volume of change. Training sessions forgotten, new systems replacing old ones overnight, and IT teams overwhelmed with employees who simply can’t keep up. At Zentech, the story is no different.
Join us as we investigate the unseen breakdown of knowledge retention and the chaos it leaves behind - in Episode 5 - The Forgotten.
Starring the Reality Bytes crew: Tim Flower, Tom McGrath, Meghan Brake, Oriana Ott, Sean Malvey, and Kathryn Shea.
In this episode, Tom speaks with Tania Benade-Meyer, founder of Unstructured, about the power of unstructured data, the shift from SLAs to XLAs, and what it takes to be an “enlightened leader” in 2025.
From Starbucks’ gluten-free perception problem to Gen Z’s naturally inclusive leadership style, Tania shares research-driven insights into how perception, trust, and consistent action are reshaping the modern workplace—and driving better Digital Employee Experience (DEX). Along the way, you’ll get a masterclass in what great 21st-century leadership looks like: how social listening can predict human behavior, why XLAs reveal more than traditional metrics, and the tell-tale signs of harmful leadership—where words and actions don’t align.

In episode 2, we uncovered an invisible hand—a saboteur leaving undocumented changes and phantom scripts, wreaking havoc at Zentech. This week we’re shifting our focus to tell the story of something much quieter. Something… insidious even. It’s not a rogue script. It’s not a disgruntled ex-employee. It’s something much harder to pin down: Complacency. When people stop fighting back against the problems that plague them… what happens? For Zentech, it turned into a storm of security risks, failed patches, and crashing systems. And the trail led to a surprising culprit: the reboot button.
Parallel is a fictional journey inspired by the popular murder mystery series Serial, which investigates the very real murder of a high school teenager who went missing after school one day. Parallel investigates the mystery of murdered enterprise productivity, now missing at the high tech firm.
Hosted by Tim Flower, a 35-year career technologist who has spent the last 10 years helping IT teams understand how productivity is stolen, both from IT, and from the employees IT supports. It’s been a journey of seeing workdays gone wrong, systems gone haywire, and the lengths IT will go to for answers.
This mission started out to answer one simple question: What’s been killing productivity at Zentech? Or, to get more technical about it, where do employees lose 24 minutes every day of their working lives? And what mysteries lie in the darkness of a complex enterprise, waiting to be discovered and eliminated.
Starring the Reality Bytes crew: Tim Flower, Tom McGrath, Meghan Brake, Oriana Ott, Sean Malvey, and Kathryn Shea.
While The DEX Show often explores digital transformation and employee experience through a technical or strategic lens, today’s interview takes a more human turn — spotlighting the formative experiences that shaped one of the UK legal sector’s most passionate champions of service excellence, Midge Renganathan, Head of IT Service Delivery at leading law firm RPC.
Midge delivers a moving, candid account of growing up, finding belonging, and discovering a unique talent for customer service and people leadership.

Or, to get more technical about it, where do employees lose 24 minutes every day of their working lives? And what mysteries lie in the darkness of a complex enterprise, waiting to be discovered and eliminated.
In our first episode, we uncovered the mysterious theft of productivity at Zentech. A rogue script, phantom processes, and employees caught in the crossfire. But what if this wasn’t just bad luck, or a simple system failure? What if it was deliberate? In this episode, we follow a trail left by a single vandal. A criminal that leaves no trace behind. One known only as 'The Undocumented Change.' What we uncover may change everything we thought we knew about Zentech's crisis—and possibly, about the very foundation of workplace technology itself.

From his origins in Stratford-upon-Avon—the birthplace of Shakespeare—to advising top organizations around the world, Terence brings a uniquely human and deeply strategic perspective to the challenges of the AI era.
In this lightning-in-a-bottle conversation, he reframes disruption as an opportunity rather than a threat—and explains why "respair" (an ancient word for renewed hope) might be exactly what today’s tech leaders need.

From Nexthink and the creators of The DEX Show, this is Parallel: One IT story told week by week. Because technology problems don’t happen in isolation. Or by themselves. They happen in parallel.
What’s been killing productivity at Zentech, a cutting-edge company known for its efficient operations and innovation? Or, to get more technical about it, where do employees lose 24 minutes every day of their working lives? Over the course of 5 weeks, you’ll see that answering that question uncovered all sorts of other unanswered questions, and we ended up finding more mysteries - crashing systems, failed updates, unhappy employees, and a strange reference to something called “The Foundation”.

OK everyone here's one last fantasic BONUS episode to see out the year. This was a great conversation with Nexthink's Pedro Bados (founder and CEO) and Yassine Zaied (Chief Marketing and Strategy Officer) about the emergence of DEX - as theory, practise and even acroynrm - within Nexthink.
We recorded this earlier in the year and had some sound issues. Some hard backend audio work however has rendered the conversation (we hope) both listenable and enjoyable, and it's such a clinching theme for 2023 (when DEX has grown so much in stature and reach) that we wanted to share it before everyone goes on a well-earned break, and the DEX Show prepares for a fantastic and exciting start to 2024.
Thanks so much for listening and Happy New Year from everyone here - we look forward to seeing you first thing in January.

When we think about technology, old has become synonymous with slow, inefficient, outdated. Once a device reaches a certain age (or starts performing poorly), we’re quick to toss it out in favor of a sparkling replacement.
But the ongoing chip shortage crisis has put unprecedented strain on companies’ hardware supplies – leading many in IT to ask: what if a device’s age isn’t the real problem? What if that lifecycle can be extended?
This week, incoming Nexthink Ambassador Barbara Matoe, along with Nexthink’s own sustainability expert Mary Anne Cacciola, join the show to discuss how to extend hardware lifecycles – and how doing so will help both the environment and a business’s bottom line.
We discuss:
Common misconceptions around device age and performance
