“Post Halloween Letdown”

A solo monologue by Steve, with a little help from Palu, who smoked some weed..

Greetings and salutations everyone! Steve here with you on November 2nd, 2017 and this is Episode 15, of Baked and Awake. I hope everyone had an extra spooky, extra lengthy Halloween this year, I know we certainly did what with the day itself falling on a Tuesday this year, it was basically Halloween from Friday onwards around here. Kenny was a Ninja this year, and Royce, at nearing 2 years old and a perfect semi long haired natural redhead- went as Chucky from Child’s Play. Yeah, you could say that it was pretty epic. Anyway- I’d like to open this mini sode by saying my most heartfelt thank-you to everyone who listened to the show in the past 30 days. As some of you who are paying closer attention might know, We broke all expected or hoped for downloads goals last month, and we couldn’t be happier about it. Please help us continue to grow our audience by seeking us out on your favorite social media platforms, and tossing us that like, pressing share or reposting our posts, and of course by leaving your (hopefully 5 star!) review in the almighty marketplace that is the iTunes store.

Looking ahead to November, I’m excited to let you all know that I was recently interviewed as a guest for Sam Sedlack’s excellent podcast, Supernormal. The subject matter for that conversation was being raised adopted, and mixed race, and how that has been for me in my life. It’s part of a series of episodes Sam is putting out right now dealing with race, identity, and life in America today from different perspectives. If this wasn’t cool enough, we can also look forward to having Sam on herself as our very first guest of the Baked and Awake show. Sam and I will spend some time talking podcast creator challenges and the highs and lows that come along with making content of this kind, and we may also touch on some other subjects a little closer to our “Baked” wheelhouse as well. Finally, I am pleased to mention that I just recorded and shared my first ever Promo spot for our show, to be played during an upcoming episode of one of my new very favorite Podcasts, The Eastern Border, Hosted by Kristaps Andrejsons. The Eastern Border is a fantastically done show that covers the history of the USSR from the standpoint of a Latvian Professor of Russian history. Kristaps knows his topic, and tells stories in a relatable and entertaining way that will have you coming back for episode after episode. Please, everyone- go check out Supernormal and The Eastern Border, like them both on FB, and make sure you let them know that Baked and Awake sent you.

And now, on to the show, with Palu up first with review of Solstice Farms Shurman #7. Take it away, buddy!

Palu: Solstice Farms Shurman #7

And we’re back, I hope everyone enjoyed Palu’s review of Solstice Farms’s Sherman #7. It sounds like an excellent and balanced concentrate with a high CBD percentage that still delivers the enjoyment of THC and the benefits of its interplay with the other cannabinoids and terpenes as well.

And now on to a short discussion of everyone’s favorite Netflix franchise, Stranger Things. Note: we won’t be giving out a bunch of spoilers here, even though most of America has already binged the eight hours of Season 2 in one sitting by now. Just in case you haven’t watched it yet, I certainly don’t want to be the one responsible for having ruined it for you. Instead of delving into plot points, details, or revealing omissions, we will be addressing themes, and some conspiratorial topics that seem to be commonly encountered in Science Fiction and Fantasy television and movie features. In the main, Im talking about a concept known to the Tinfoil Hat Society as “Predictive Programming”, where the powers that be encode hidden and sometimes not so hidden messages into popular entertainment (Movies, TV, radio and print media, and perhaps most importantly- video games) about some planned societal change in a bid to inoculate the public against their future shock or dismay in response to the actual event. Predictive programming, it is said- lessens the public’s resistance to what are perceived to be largely negative compulsory social developments, and distort the understanding of the genesis of the change, placing it in the realm of “this is just how things work” or “We chose this”. “Disclosure”, on the other hand, is understood again by critical thinkers, to be a tacit admission of some crime or sin already committed. This is the classic rubbing it in your face moment that the victim loathes and the bully live for. Now, before you say to me “I’ve never heard of this madness before, Steve! You must be off your rocker, I say to you- when was the last time a major Celebrity passed away, or a terrible disaster occurred, when somebody didn’t produce, as if by magic, an episode of say, The Simpsons that appears to closely match the circumstances of the incident in question. All I do by bringing this example up is to remind us all that we regularly play around with and even make light of a phenomenon that at best can be described as eerily coincidental, and at worst may be characterized as utterly diabolical.

On to the question of who is encoding these messages. Some say the Illuminati, others, the Freemasons. Still others will tell you the biggest player in this game is the USINT community, or the US Intelligence state for those of us less acronymically inclined. The United States Central Intelligence Agency, in particular, has been not only accused of, but outright caught red handed- manipulating journalists, actors, and news outlets in virtually every way you can imagine. Don’t believe me- look up Operation Mockingbird. Go ahead, we’ll wait. Now, in addition to the Usual Suspects, you can add groups like The UN, The Vatican, and Foreign Intelligence Organizations from around the world, any and all of whom have propagandistic messages that they continually seek to proliferate around the world. When we look next at the size of just Hollywood’s Entertainment industry, which by the way more or less includes the large part of the Gaming Industry- we are looking at close to One Hundred Billion with a B dollars per year. This takes no account of the money spent on production of foreign films or television shows- one can easily begin to understand that whatever message you wish to spread to the world, if you have access to the Hollywood film industry- you’re gonna get that message out there.

Alright, I’m starting to sound like I think I know something about what I’m talking about here, and that is a dangerous thing. While I do watch TV and movies these days with a highly critical eye, it takes a person with some serious background in Symbolism, Religious Themes, and America’s dark history to really hook in on the weirdest and scariest of this stuff. Believe me when I say that most of us are missing most of IT, whatever that is, that’s being communicated on our magic glowing rectangles, and that is BY DESIGN. The hidden messages are supposed to be just that- hidden. At least, to your conscious mind. At any rate, In support of my outlandish claims, I wish to bring in the assistance of a veritable heavyweight of movie and television analysis, Jay Dyer. Jay runs one of, if not the best websites and YouTube channels on the topic of encrypted messages in popular media that exists, in the world. Jay’s Channel on YouTube is called Esoteric Hollywood, and I warn you- if you get started over there, prepare to lose yourself down a rabbit hole from which there may well be no return. Jay has been breaking down the mysteries of the movies for years, and has an encyclopedic knowledge of both US history, and the history of the film. Here, I will read a few excerpts from his first rate piece on the Stranger Things franchise, published on evolveandascend.com in August of 2016.

The Martha Washington School for Insane Girls, Seattle WA on Lake Washington, is rumored to be one of Seattle’s most haunted places. Rumors of Violence, Poor treatment, Suicide, and even murder pervade the history of the facility. Despite the persistence of these stories, Seattle seems to have all but forgotten this dark portion of its children’s history.

Sterile though the historical timeline below this essay may be, this School has a story that is still trying to be told, with locals bearing witness to having heard strange noises, the sounds of running footsteps, and even screams on the grounds, today a city park. These spirits, if that’s what they are, as further said to inhabit the trees, some of which are clearly almost a century old, and rumored to have been planted by patients/inmates of the “School”. Bullies and would be Muggers etc seem to fall victim to the ghosts, while troubled teens, particularly teenage girls are said to derive a dark sense of comfort from them.

While I’ve so far been unable to find a record of the school’s darker side that names names or gives specifics of who dies when and how- I think that is perhaps a little less important, and no more scary to hear about, than to simply recall what routinely went on in State run institutions of this sort throughout the 19th and 20th centuries. While the normal world turned slowly around them, patients of Asylums, Conservatoriums, Hospitals, University Hospitals, and more were regularly experimented upon. Sometimes with therapeutic aims, other times, the motivations were much less clear.

BAKED and AWAKEEpisode 10- WiP

Host: Steve Cominski Co-Host: G.W. Masters

talktous@bakedandawake.com

13 October 2017 Welcome once again to Baked and Awake. This is Steve, with a few comments before we jump into this week’s debacle I mean- meticulously crafted episode! We are fortunate right now to have an episode at all, as we embarrassingly found ourselves having recorded with the mic settings once again way off- this time too loud/too much gain. It was bad. We almost had to toss the whole episode out- except for the fact that for the first time ever, we taped in parallel with a portable recorder- a freshly acquired, gently used Tascam DR-05. Well, I still have a lot of work to do on a number of technical fronts, and I did manage to badly bodge the process of pulling files off the recorder and getting them into appropriate sized chunks to be further moved around in lossless .wav format- nevermind. || It’s boring, it's technical, and it all comes down, if you MUST know, to more of a PEBKAC issue than anything else. Suffice to say however, that I managed to pull some (decent) audio off the Tascam, although the “quality” of the discourse is a bit… shall we say coarse? Look- it was supposed to be a downtemposode, and it was. Without the music. And no real agenda. (But don’t worry- we had weed)! So, you may begin to get an idea of where this went. Anyhoo- I ended up cutting a lot of it due to still not being in love with the audio’s physical qualities, but also due to a general lack of real information being surfaced for the audience.

George and I talked a lot both before and after turning on the recorders that evening- and I wish we had more of it because we “lost” (in the can but sounds atrocious) some great stuff with George talking about his photography and working in public. It’s ok though, because we still have George, and I know we are going to revisit the topic of his art probably more than once or twice in the future on the show.

In an effort to address the above grievous offenses, I’m going to attempt to front load us with just a few coherent words before the debauch commences because frankly, it makes me feel better! As always, what follows is an adult show with some light Cannabis use , and this time- more than a bit of potty mouth Steve. Sorry about that, Mom- if you’re listening!

NOTE: Before we jump into Hemp History, I want to take one moment to thank Alex Barbarian from Soundcloud for the chill background soundtrack. Please check Alex out using the provided link in the show notes, and let him know you found him through our community! Alex- you’re the man!

  • First up, Some Hemp History Timeline, starting in the 1940’s
    • Document Link
  • Next: Old Business- mentioned last week was WA State House Bill 1092- On the growing of plants in our humble abodes..

  • HB 1092 seeks to reform WA Cannabis law to allow for home growing of cannabis plants for any adults over 21 years of age

  • Bill is currently in the House, in committee
  • Bill needs to make it on House of Reps calendar, and Pass the Chamber before moving on to the same process (Introduce, Committee, Calendar, Vote) on the Senate floor
  • Once passed in the House and Senate, HB 1092 must still be ratified by the Governor before passing into law
  • Details and limitations as described in the Bill Digest, below
  • We have subscribed to the email updates for this bill, and listeners here in WA can do the same by following the link to the bill here in the show notes.

  • HB 1092 - DIGEST Allows the possession of no more than six marijuana plants and up to twenty-four ounces of useable marijuana harvested from lawfully grown plants if the person in possession is at least twenty-one years old. Allows the possession of no more than twelve marijuana plants and forty-eight ounces of useable marijuana, in the aggregate, by the adult residents of a single housing unit, regardless of the number of persons who are at least twenty one years old residing in the housing unit

Advocacy for Incarcerated Non Violent Drug Offenders While we sit here racking up dabs and looking forward to hopefully passing legal home grow here “on the outside”, more Americans sit rotting in prison than ever before, and while things have actually begun to show signs of stabilizing, there’s no clear path to reversing the trend. I know it’s easy not to think about those people, or to rationalize their circumstances in some way, but I hope that if you’re listening to this show we share a common belief that things like “Three strikes, you’re out”, and “Stop and Frisk’, or how about “Civil Asset Forfeiture” - are a net negative for us as a Nation, as a Culture, and as Civilized Humans. To that end, in recent discussions we have been trying to identify worthy organizations fighting the good fight on this front, that we may support them.

  • I’ve heard of them before, but right now The Sentencing Project, at www.thesentencingproject.org- is looking like the real MVP’s for us on this issue. According to their website, we understand the following
    • The USA leads The World in incarceration of its citizens
    • The US incarceration rate has grown by over 500% in the past 40 years
    • Over 2 million Americans are in prison
    • As many as 1 in 3 Adult Black Americans have a felony conviction. (Let that one sink in for a minute as you think about voter turnout numbers in things like general elections..)
    • TSP is working to end mandatory minimum sentencing and excessively lengthy sentences
    • Shifting of resources FROM incarceration to community based prevention and treatment for substance abuse
    • Examining and reforming policies and practices that contribute to racial iniquity throughout every area of the US Justice system

As I said, they look like they are doing a lot of the heavy lifting here on a matter that I personally believe to be of great importance. I’m going to look into ways of supporting The Sentencing Project both personally and through vehicles like this podcast. We’ll also seek to support and publicize other worthy organizations that are fighting the good fight on this or other issues, like widespread legalization of the growing of Industrial Hemp for CBD and/or fuel production.

BAKED AND AWAKE SHOWEpisode 09- A Hanford/Maury Island Connection

Host: Steve Cominski

Co Host: George W. Masters

07 October 2017 Welcome back to EP09 of The Baked and Awake Show. I’m Steve, and I’ll be your host for this latest edition of the show, that at the time of publication, is the first of our shows available in the iTunes and GooglePlay stores!! We are ALSO available to stream and download in the Tunein, Stitcher (Applause!). Today on the show we are going to talk (more than we already have) about everybody’s favorite “new” way to smoke weed- Dabbing, and it’s not so new, and somewhat mysterious origins. We’ll also drop back into the ever informative Hemp History timeline, starting at 1900, and see what the 20th Century has to offer our Photogenic Protagonist, Cannabis, and its hard working and continuously underrated Sister, The Hemp Plant. Finally, it’s a return to Maury - Vashon Island, with some lesser known history of the Island, as well as a possible connection between a famous UFO incident of 1947 that bears the Island’s name, and another mysterious as well as eternally super deadly dangerous- Hanford Nuclear Power Plant.

In a separate project Ford builds an experimental Hemp Car body 10x stronger than steel and significantly lighter- (In a way foreshadowing fiberglass, plastics, and carbon fiber tech during the WWII era?) + The United States OSS, precursor Organization to the NSA/CIA, develops a highly potent MJ concentrate, made using Ethanol Alcohol as the solvent- dubbed “Truth Serum”. Codenamed “TD” for Truth Drug, it was administered to unknowing subjects as part of interviews and interrogations in the US and Canada throughout the run of the controversial and super conspiratorial CIA “MK Ultra” program.

AWAKE OPEN CASE No 001

The Hanford Site

Hanford, to be honest- is almost too big of a topic to tackle at our tender stage of development here at Baked and Awake. The only reason that I feel alright taking this up at all, is because of all the many topics we hope to cover here over the next few years, Hanford is one that, more than many others, tends to be rarely discussed, even by avid counter culture loving types and the “Conspiracy Crowd”.

Hanford is a massive 586 square mile parcel of land in Washington State that housed the most important nuclear weapons production facility in the United States. It produced almost 80% of the radioactive material used in the United States. It houses 56M gal of liquid waste and 25m cubic feet of solid waste. It is the largest superfund cleanup project in the UNited States.

After the roof collapsed in a tunnel on the site in May 2017,

Hanford released a statement that "no evidence of radiological

release" was detected. It should be noted of course that Hanford officials

ignored warnings given by experts in 1980 in regards to the condition

of the structure and the dangers of its contents.

ALSO IN MAY 2017 - radioactive contamination was unexpectedly detected during checks on an underground storage tank. In another incident that same month, workers’ clothes were found to have been contaminated with plutonium, though the source of the contamination was not determined.

August 2017 - an airborne release during demolition of a

building on the Hanford site was detected. The air tests were

not expected to contain traces of plutonium. The airborne particles

were assumed the result of the demolition but there has not

been a conclusive determination of causality.

In 2016, more than 50 workers were exposed to toxic gases, resulting in

illness. More than a 1.3 BILLION dollars has been paid to workers who

have been harmed at Hanford.

These "unexpected" discoveries of contamination are almost certainly

symptoms of a larger problem. Laziness and greed. The cost and effort necessary to address the issues is just too much for them to handle, so they lie and avoid and hide the evidence. From what I read while researching this issue, I would say the danger is clear and present.

Now there are some real problems with this, other than the shortcomings of the officials in power. For instance, the cleanup is fabulously expensive. Estimates of the cleanup cost are in excess of $100 Billion. The current budget is $2.3 Billion, nowhere near enough to address matters in a sufficiently timely fashion. And Trump is cutting the existing

budget by $120M.

-The cleanup deadline is 2060, but experts believe many dangerous

structures on the site will not survive that long.

The underlying issue is human error and laziness. Hanford officials

repeatedly dodge questions about the site and its management.

Consider the number of earthquakes along the Pacific Rim in recent days

and the dangers posed by the poorly maintained and aging Hanford

facilities is amplified significantly. A major quake could release

enough radioactive and otherwise toxic material into the air and water to

cause widespread damage over an enormous portion of the Northwest.

Episode 07

Sept 28, 2017

Host: Steve Cominski

Guest: George W. Masters

Hey Everybody, Steve here with a few introductory comments to today’s show. It’s been a busy few days around here since our last time together. Things continue to progress down at the garden at work, with the plants in the rooms getting bigger, most now requiring cargo netting to hold up the increasingly heavy branches. The first harvest days for the new Smooth Sailing Cannabis team are starting to look like they are coming closer at long last. Aside from my “Day Job”, and its attendant needs, I’ve been noodling on the show, of course. Researching topics for the upcoming Episode 07, I have also been populating a schedule of show topics to cover, trying to get ahead of the cycle a little bit by looking ahead and putting down some outlines for future episodes. All this, while updating the website, designing logos, and other art assets that will become our brand identity, and more.

The Episode you are about to listen to is more of an experiment than a formal program. Guest, friend, and probable future contributor George Masters joins me in the recording space to assist in testing microphones etc. George is an ardent cigar aficionado and exceptionally talented photographer, whom I have been fortunate to call a good buddy now for many years. I hope to be joined by George again soon in studio, to bring you the first of our more robust “Mini Strain Review” segments of the show.

Anyway, it’s still a struggle to get our mic’s levels where we want them, and again I’m not bothering with shipping this one off to my Sound Engineer pal for some post production, so you’re getting a modestly improved raw audio file once more. We are getting there though, and while George is a bit faint at times, due to not sitting as close to the mic as he maybe should have, we enjoyed ourselves and I think overall the audio is reasonable.

Presently, getting out episodes on a regular basis is my top priority. Perfection must, for now, take a back seat to my goal of consistently putting something out there. I earnestly believe that the quality is already here, and we simply need to continue to develop both the format, and our delivery, through just sitting down and turning on the mic, and getting something captured.

By the way, we are very much looking forward to being listed in the itunes and GooglePlay podcast directories any day now, and really hope that by becoming more searchable and discoverable in this way, we will begin to see even more views/listens/downloads of the show than we already are. In the meantime, however, for now the best place to find all past episodes, as well as to communicate directly with us, is our own website, www.bakedandawake.com

Next, an editorial note: Being stoners, during the smoke session I incorrectly identify the farm that produced the flower that we sample on the show as Cannasol Farms. Lovely folks though they probably are, we did not smoke their weed last night Instead, we enjoyed the Royal Kush from our friends down at Soulshine Farms, where fellow Podcaster and Cannabis Ninja Vanzell Kirk, host of “The Lifted Scene” works as a member of the Growing Team. Kirk, if you’re listening buddy- sorry for the flub, we did enjoy the Royal Kush quite a bit. Keep up the good work. Check out The Lifted Scene in the iTunes store or wherever else you find your favorite Podcast content.

Speaking of Podcasts, I want to share with you all two other shows right now that inspire me everyday to keep doing this, for myself as much as because I even think one person might be listening- first, Ryan Kraus of the Cold Case Murder Mysteries Podcast- the guy likes almost all of my instagram posts, like a real person or something- it’s crazy! He also makes one of the best true crime Podcasts out there, bringing his unique analysis to cold cases, Ryan never fails to have you re-examining what you thought you knew about “well known” tragic stories that nevertheless fascinate us all. Just as awesome as Ryan and Cold Case Mysteries, are Sam Sedlack and friends, over at Super Normal- a podcast that seeks to bring the listener super relatable stories about fascinating people you didn’t know you needed to know. Every episode is different, and they tackle some real shit. We are talking workplace politics, identity politics, being unique in a society today that continually finds ways to challenge and dampen the spirit of individuals- I’m doing a poor job here of describing a really worthwhile show- just go check it and these other shows out for yourself, and don’t forget to tell them all that Ya Boy Steve sent you!

Alright- George and I are about to session some Galactic Glue Shatter from Clandestine Gardens, we laugh quite a bit, and even manage to talk a little shop about Episode 07, so get comfortable, grab yourself a cup of tea, and maybe a bowl of “Tea” as one of my first muses, Jack Kerouac might say, and get ready to hang out with the Baked and Awake pals..

Intro

Welcome to the latest installment of The Baked and Awake Show, where we get together, usually once a week- and chop it up about all things Cannabis here in the Beautiful Pacific Northwest. I tend to open most episodes with some light cannabis consumption, and a bit of conversation about everybody’s favorite semi illicit houseplant. Once we are good and stoney, we’ll turn things towards interesting stories, mysteries, and popular, unpopular, and sometimes obscure conspiracy theories- especially those with connections to the Pac NW.

NOTE: Host and guests record the show in Washington State. All Cannabis use is legal and conducted with as much decorum as possible while still having fun. Viewers and Listeners should be adults and understand that this show is not suitable for children. The Content Creator does not advocate or promote the underage use of Drugs, Alcohol, or Cannabis, nor excessive use of the same by adults caring for or closely associated with children. We are responsible adults, parents, and we think decent folks. We’ll hold ourselves to a reasonably high standard for class and taste- and you should, too.

Thank you, everyone, everywhere, anytime, for joining me today for this our latest show. I am excited to share some really fun cannabis related trivia today, and maybe a little bit more. We are also going to continue our journey through time via our (www.Rediscoverpot.org) Hemp History Timeline, starting at just about 1800, where we find ourselves beginning to see the modern era loom close on the horizon for both humanity and our intrepid companions, Indica and Sativa. From there we will probably take a big ol’ dab before diving in deep on an equally major double mystery. Those were the strange deaths by misadventure suffered by budding Hollywood star Brandon Lee- 28, tragically killed during the filming of his breakthrough role,1993’s The Crow, and twenty years prior, the equally untimely demise of Brandon’s father, the legendary international martial arts movie superstar Bruce Lee, 32 while filming Game of Death. In each case, the movies were eventually finished (with major changes to accommodate the loss of their starring actor) and released to audiences anyway. Both men’s deaths were surrounded by conspiracy theories, some of which persist to this day.

Before we get to all that, however, I wanted to take a moment to make a couple of follow up comments about my recent trip to Seattle’s Hempfest with my family. I wanted to point out that, while 100 percent supportive of my cannabis lifestyle, career choice, all of it- Nicole does not and has not ever really used cannabis. Aside from a few experiences with various edible products, (with mixed results!) She’s just not into it. This is important to understand up front so that you will believe me when I say that we did not partake with, or while in contact with any young students or former students of Nicoles’ at the event. I would also remind everyone that Hempfest is an all ages event and that many young people attend without any intention or requirement for partaking of the marijuanas merely due to being in attendance. Does it occur? Undoubtedly. Did we witness it this year? I don’t think so. Anyway- my wife is a wonderful, upstanding, positive role model for her students and I just wanted to be crystal clear on that matter before moving on.

Old Business

Vocabulary, General:

Delineate de·lin·e·ate

dəˈlinēˌāt/

verb

verb: delineate; 3rd person present: delineates; past tense: delineated; past participle: delineated; gerund or present participle: delineating

  1. describe or portray (something) precisely.
  2. "the law should delineate and prohibit behavior that is socially abhorrent"

Origin

mid 16th century (in the sense ‘trace the outline of something’): from Latin delineat- ‘outlined,’ from the verb delineare, from de- ‘out, completely’ + lineare (from linea ‘line’).

Carl Linnaeus is famous for his work in Taxonomy, the science of identifying, naming and classifying organisms (plants, animals, bacteria, fungi, etc.). He was born in 1707, the eldest of five children, in a place called Råshult, in Sweden. His father, called Nils, was a minister and keen gardener. He would often take his young son Carl into the garden with him and teach him about botany (the study of plants). By the age of five, Carl had his own garden, which gave him a great thirst for learning about plants and how they work. Source: https://www.linnean.org/education-resources/who-was-linnaeus

Strain of The Week

Cannabis 101- Vocabulary, Baked

What’s “OG” stand for when it’s part of the strain name? Spoiler- It’s probably not what you think! Source: https://www.medicaljane.com/2013/01/05/the-legend-of-og-kush/

Dabbing: Blue Roots Cannabis Terpene Sauce- OG Chem (65%THC)

Flower: Lifted Cannabis 501st OG (22%THC)

Purchased at Clutch Cannabis Renton WA. Great little shop with a large selection and an excellent staff. Look for Barry and give him daps.

Baked Closing Remarks

(Part Two?)

Awake Topic- The Lee Family “Curse”

NOTE: Before we begin- Bruce Lee was an idol of mine growing up. He was light years ahead of his contemporaries, and while Kung Fu movies were still a fringe niche within film offerings in the US at the time, many thousands, perhaps millions of impressionable young boys like myself grew up in the 1970’s and 80’s watching an endless stream of low budget action movies on the TV during our summer vacations. Infinitely superior to The Waltons, Andy Griffith Show, or endless reruns of Green Acres, Gilligan’s Island, LIttle House, and F-Troop were these action packed fantasies about Brave Warriors, Beautiful Damsels who wielded swords of their own, and downright creepy and unbelievable, Seemingly supernatural old Monks, Generals, and Kung Fu Wizards. Now these were movies! Still- they were super cheesy, and they are frankly hard to watch these days upon re visitation. Bruce Lee’s movies were and are nothing of the sort. He stood head and shoulders above the rest,(plot, production value, mass appeal, etc) and you can still see this when watching his movies today. Bruce’s Jeet Kune Do, in many ways- foreshadowed today’s Modern Mixed Martial Arts, especially as expressed within the now sanctioned sporting organization of the Ultimate Fighting Championships. I have good reason, as do probably many, to believe that Bruce, if his prime years age had coincided with the era of the rise of UFC style fighting- that he would have adapted yet further in his development and evolution of his unique style (A combination of over 23 traditional Martial Arts disciplines as well as elements of Western Boxing, Wrestling, and more) and been very successful indeed. Were, that is- he were interested in further competition of any sort which is by no means clear. I do this piece on Bruce and Brandon to honor their memories, not to speculate uselessly on deaths 25 and 44 years in the past, respectively. The Lee family has never supported or given breath to the many theories surrounding the circumstances of the two men’s demises, and I feel it only fair to point this out at this time. Bruce and Brandon are survuved by Bruce’s wife and Brandon’s Mother, Linda Lee, as well as Shannon Lee, Brandon’s younger sister (Born 1972).

Can both Bruce and Brandon Lee’s deaths, all too young at age 32 and 28 respectively- be laid at the feet of Chinese Triads, Japanese Gangsters, or even a dreaded family curse, or were both men’s demises nothing more than pure bad luck and outrageous coincidence?

Topic Bullet Points:

  1. Bruce’s Parents feared a demon was after their son.
  2. Rumors of a feud between Lee, a prolific teacher of Western Students- and the Chinese Triads, who did not want the secrets of their martial arts disseminated.
  3. Bruce was plagued by prophetic dreams of his own early death.
  4. Bruce’s character in Game of Death is “shot by a would be assassin” in the film.
  5. Bruce collapses while filming Game of Death, dies while the film is still not complete from an apparent allergic reaction to the unusual pain killer/muscle relaxer provided him by a friend and fellow actor ,

Hempfest 2017 was a blast! I didn’t end up volunteering for WOKE WA because I didn’t make it out to the festival until Sunday afternoon (A wonderful time to attend Hempfest, I must say- ahem- free parking- cough), when I brought along the whole fam damily to join me in a Hempy Sunday afternoon (which more than anything else we ate our way through in true County Fair Fashion) at the park. More about this in the show, but suffice to say that as long as you’re not scared of a few of the crunchier hippies, it’s a downright family friendly affair at Ye Olde Hempe Festival.

Hempfest main message takeaway: Legalize Home Grow in WA, Public/Social Smoking in WA, More Progressive voters needed. Hempfest is hurting for funding!

Strain of the Week:

Dutch Treat- Hybrid Wikileaf has the best description I found: Wikileaf Dutch Treat

EXCERPT: There is no clear provenance on the lineage of Dutch Treat. However, many sources point to Jordan of the Islands, an experienced breeder from Vancouver Island, as the point of origin. Jordan of the Islands grows several staple strains as well as innovative crossbreeds that retail at dispensaries throughout the Vancouver area.

Popular staple strains Northern Lights (another heavy indica with an earthy flavor profile) and Haze (a bold sativa with similarly wispy buds) have been suggested as parents of Dutch Treat, but without advanced genetic testing, we can’t know for sure how Dutch Treat came to be.

Cannabis Fun Fact:

What is a Landrace Strain?

Landrace strains are the original, native strains of cannabis that have been discovered and documented throughout time. These strains, and the genetic purity they represent- are the progenitors of ALL the modern, Ultra High Performing, hybridized cannabis we enjoy today. Landraces are incredibly important today as growers and scientific and medically minded professionals are becoming hip to cannabis and its myriad applications. These people and the fields of study they represent want to look directly at the plant as it developed in nature, free of interbreeding with other strains, and in its historically correct region of the world. Although less common today than they once were in terms of distribution, they do pop up for sale now and then and you may find it fun to try them when you have the chance.

List Of Landrace Strains

(Source: http://stonercircle.net/2016/09/17/cannabis-landrace-strains/)

Panama Red – Sativa traced to a small panamanian island.

Hindu Kush – Indica growing in the Kush Mountain range.

Afghani – Indica growing in the Afghan area.

Durban Poison – Sativa traced back to Durban area of South Africa.

Punto Rojo – Sativa that can be found growing in Columbia.

Acapulco Gold – Sativa coming from the Mexico region.

Lamb’s Bread – Sativa that originated in Jamaica.

Malawi – Sativa originating from Malawi, Africa.

Luang Prabang – Sativa originating in northern Laos.

Delta Zonker – Sativa originating in Vietnam.

Altai – Sativa originating in Southern Russia.

AWAKE TOPIC:

NOTE: Maury Island took place over 60 years ago, but it could have occurred yesterday, and may still be repeated at any time in the future. A report of something strange seen flying overhead on a warm summer night on the water. Dubious evidence on the ground and in poorly developed photos taken on the night in question. Conflicting reports of hoaxing dogging the tale almost from the start, giving way to no clear resolution to what took place. Though seemingly a mostly harmless UFO sighting tale, the slightest curiosity on the part of would be investigators quickly uncovers a wealth of unusual information and a string of coincidences that truly leave one wondering what really did happen in late July 1947, in Puget Sound. Others have covered this story better and in more depth. We are just having fun with the highlights tonight, and I strongly encourage those of you whose curiosity is piqued to investigate further, starting with the links included in the show notes.

Bullet Points:

-MIB’s first possible sighting at Maury Island

-Radioactive Slag- reported, stolen, possibly sabotaged, may still be there today.

-Burned Kid- Later disappears and turns up out of state, waiting tables, with no memory of how he got there.

-Dead dog of injured boy was apparently pushed OVERBOARD….?

-Boat damage inconclusive at best.

-Gov’t investigators die in suspicious crash. Aircraft said to have been shot down.

-Journalists who report on it die in strange circumstances. Tacoma Times, Idaho Star.

-Reported as a hoax and yet denied as same by one of the central figures (AWM Pg 13).

-Crisman is later named as a suspect in the JFK assassination.

Show Intro:

Good Friday morning and welcome to Episode 002 of Baked and Awake- The show where we explore our relationships with Cannabis, and how we are able to use it in our lives here in a legal weed state (WA!). While we are enjoying and learning about our favorite herb, we will also have fun discussing conspiracies and mysteries of all stripes. We are going to talk about a lot of off the wall topics here, some of them may even be a bit… disturbing at times. Let’s remember that this show is intended for ADULTS to enjoy, and probably not very suitable for children or even teens (We love you, teenagers- see you guys soon!)

Host Intro:

Steve Cominski, Sales at an I-502 Grow in Tacoma WA. Family man, motorcycle lover, and armchair philosopher. I hope to bring you a continuously improving series of content that is of interest to us all. I pledge to do my best to remain focused on our stated format, while allowing the show to evolve naturally to whatever it becomes. I will try hard to keep a level of perspective and distance between myself and the subject matter, the better to maintain an objective tone, allowing the listeners and viewers to form their own conclusions. While not a paid researcher or formal academic, I consider myself reasonably well read and will endeavour to establish that for the audience throughout the shows as we cover diverse subjects in the Mystery/Occult/Conspiracy/Lost History realm. I thank you for listening, watching, liking, and subscribing- and I welcome all comments, emails, or direct messages. You can easily find me on Instagram, or Youtube by searching Baked and Awake.

Events Calendar:

Hempfest this weekend in Seattle WA- BIggest and Longest running Hemp Advocacy and Pro Legalization rally in the country. A weekend full of music, talks, and Cannabis culture.

Strain of the Week:

Gorilla Glue #4- Anesia Seeds - Gorilla Glue # 4

We are proud that we can offer Gorilla Glue # 4 as feminized Seeds. Gorilla Glue #4 is at the moment the strongest strain on earth, tested 12 times with more than 30% THC. It was created by Joesy Whales when he crossed Chem Sis with his Sour Dubb. He gave a couple of seeds to his buddy Mardogg, who popped the beans years later and ended up with 4 pheno’s of the Gorilla Glue. Because of the extraordinary trichome production they decided to take pheno number 4 to breed with it. We got an elite cut directly from the Standard Seed Collective and crossed, backcrossed and stabilized this outstanding strain.

This variety is one of the stickiest and tastiest sativa-dominant strains in the world. Gorilla Glue is the kind of weed that literally gums up your fingers in big clumps when you’re trying to break it up. GG #4 has a piny, spicy aroma and a taste of sandle wood and sweet cherry. When it is consumed it shows its enormous potency with a THC level of more than 30%. It has very clear cerebral effects which lasts more than 4 hours. Gorilla Glue #4 should only be consumed by experienced users! The strain is incredibly resinous. A bane to all trimmers, GG4 got its name from its tendency to clog scissors until they are stuck. This shiny star produces a euphoric, focused and happy high and offers best results in a SCROG-grow.

Yield: 500-550 g/m2 indoors / 600 g/plant outdoors

Genetics: Chem Sis x Sour Dubb

Flowering-time: 9 weeks indoors

harvest outdoors: mid-october

Height Height Indoor: 140-180 cm

Height Outdoor: 160-250 cm

High THC-Level: 33%

RELATED NEWS: https://merryjane.com/news/gorilla-glue-lawsuit GG #4, Like GSC before it- faces legal action from the original creators of the glue that inspired the strain name. This poses an interesting question regarding naming of strains. How do you feel about this story and silly names in general?

Hemp History Timeline:

(10min)Continuing our journey through time and history with the Cannabis plant. Beginning at 0-1000 CE and concluding at 1500 CE.

Smoking Tip:

Clean your water pipes regularly! Mold, bacteria, particulates all build up in there in just a few short sessions. For this reason, clean water in your piece is crucial to healthy enjoyment. Clean glass not only tastes better, but allows the water (Your filtration medium) to function properly, keeping contaminants out of your lungs. And remember: Never dab a hot nail, Kid! ;)

Thanks:

If you made it this far into the show, I really want to just take a moment and say thank you so much for spending some time with me. This project is an experiment and a journey, and while it is mostly something for ME- I’m trying to make content that is of value to anyone who manages to find me. Your slightest interest, likes, comments, these mean a lot to me, and help keep me going on this path. We are just getting started though so please return again, and see how we are doing over here! Share the channel and my Insta with your friends. And please, email or comment below to share your ideas for strains to try, or mysteries to explore- chances are we’ll give them a try and probably shout you out when we do! (I switch betweem I and We sometimes because as you might imagine nobody does this alone. Again I thank my Wife Nicole for all her support and production assistance. I remain grateful to my friend Norman Peterson of the MTB Jumper Podcast for his continued support and mentorship. Finally, I am excited to be talking about the show with my good friend Palu K. who we hope will be joining us soon in studio for an upcoming episode, maybe more than one! Exciting things are coming everyone, and I’m stoked to share them with you. For now, Like it, Subscribe to it, share it with yo momma.

Until next time then..
