During this episode two people from two different generations meet to exchange experiences on their youth as kids of diplomats.

What was growing up like in such international settings?

Which mentality did this create?

How is Belgium-as-a-brand and can it still be seen as a unified one?

The gang from Tienen is here!

My cousins, Jill (Insta@vandewijerjill) and Britt Vandewijer (Insta@vandewijerbritt), a comic GenZ duo came to the studio right after the first lockdown to blow off some steam and tell me about what we don't read in the reports about their age group. I was eager to know what keeps them busy, how do they see society, education, mental health and what is their surfing behaviour like?

For me they are the face for self-mockery and down-to-earth comedy. From Château Meiland to Alpacas, the way how they interpret and imitate pop-culture is both funny and full of sharp perception. As we say here: "straffe madammen".

You also hear how good humour can come from a painful place, when they open up about their school and uni experiences during the lockdown. This episode is here to give a face to our youngsters who had a hard time during this pandemic, but who, as ever, show great resilience in coping -while leaving their eldest cousin inspired and full of respect.

However this episode might be in Dutch, it might provide a good reason to convert yourself to our language. I had a lovely time talking to these prodigy Youtubers. Enjoy!

During a hot summer day we had Els Deboutte on our show. She is a Leuven (Belgium) -based HR veteran who started her own coaching program, called Make Me Fly (https://makemefly.be/) and tea and wine bar with her husband, called Terroir (https://www.terroirleuven.be/).

Through wit and humour we passed an intense afternoon debating personal growth. An important topic to look out for: what it is like for a mother to swim against the current when you choose to swap your job for an uncertain future as an entrepreneur.

Enjoy the life stories from someone who sees the world in her own way, without an apology, nor any excuses.

This episode is an absolute must if you want to know more about family businesses driven by governance and shared values. Jean-Louis Brenninkmeijer, a member of the family behind the clothing chain C&A, shares his life experiences and key learnings. From living and working abroad, what it is like to move to Canada, to start his business of Little Canada (https://little-canada.ca/), how he sees leadership and how his family values and religious convictions govern successful business and charity. Even through online medium, Philip and I were listening silently whenever J-L talked. Enjoy this collection of profound learnings from this business veteran. Welcome to the podcast. Enjoy.

Language:

dutch

Overzicht:

34:18 - Hatchoum*! Wij hebben oa. alcoholgel!

35:00 - (zelf)censuur, soms moet je gewoon durven...
