After getting FDA approval last year, Neuralink has successfully completed their first in-human implantation.
Ryan shares the latest news and updates in this information packed episode.
Elon gave an update a couple days ago on an X Space. Oddly enough, Vladimir Putin heard about this first implantation and commented on it. There's been a lot of discussion regarding the latest VR/ AR tech product- the Apple Vision Pro. Ryan compares this functionality to a Neuralink. Ryan then goes into more investigative detail to learn about Neuralink's testing procedures. Following a (bogus) Delaware court ruling on Elon Musk's pay package at Tesla, Neuralink has officially moved out of Delaware and reincorporated in the state of Nevada.Apply for Machine Learning Position at Neuralink: (I shortened link) https://rb.gy/7c7p73Neuralink's Patient Registry: https://neuralink.com/patient-registry/Neuralink careers: https://neuralink.com/careers/00:00 Intro00:23 Elon update01:38 Outline02:20 Pics inside HQ03:43 First human implanted w/ Neuralink08:46 Putin's thoughts on brain chips10:55 Apple's Vision Pro vs Neuralink17:30 Testing the implants18:51 The team's advantage20:15 Changed state of incorporationLinks:Elon's Neuralink update on X: https://twitter.com/cb_doge/status/1759859577393238091Cleo Abram on Neuralink: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0w9_D9rejsURomina's team picture: https://twitter.com/RominaNejad/status/1751393585847734507?s=20Sam's squat rack post: https://twitter.com/samschmitz/status/1751088932761330026?s=20Brandon's Christmas tree picture: https://twitter.com/hovmoses/status/1730044569486766300?t=05Jmrh2UYDXto2AIy-4NxA&s=03Elon's announcement - first human implanted: https://twitter.com/elonmusk/status/1752098683024220632?s=20Neuralink's clinical trial - PRIME study video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z7o39CzHgug&t=1s&ab_channel=NeuralinkMonkey MindPong: (1:59 - 2:07) https://www.youtube.com/watch?si=ZuHEbX8U-DQgSEbS&t=119&v=rsCul1sp4hQ&feature=youtu.bePutin interviewed by Tucker Carlson on X: (1:48:58 - 1:51:03) https://x.com/TuckerCarlson/status/1755734526678925682?s=20Casey Neistat on Apple Vision Pro: https://www.youtube.com/watch?si=0yeW6utiGk3-eGLU&v=UvkgmyfMPks&feature=youtu.be Cleo Abram & Marques Brownlee on Vision Pro: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n7hJlyVDEc8&ab_channel=CleoAbramElon says you can quasi-time travel: https://twitter.com/NeuraPod/status/1728889767922991339?t=qyvkFBXz1Ox6W9-xa60pog&s=03Vision Pro sales speculation: https://www.macrumors.com/2024/01/29/apple-vision-pro-headset-sales/Controlling a Tesla w/ Vision Pro - UrAvgConsumer: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/5ioBUUpd2IAMark Zuckerberg x Morning Brew Daily: (28:54 - 29:23) https://youtu.be/xQqsvRHjas4?si=DP3ELriJrGONzGkh&t=1734Elon announcing first product name- Telepathy: https://twitter.com/elonmusk/status/1752118131579867417?s=20Neuralink testing video: https://twitter.com/neuralink/status/1640857347575693316Joe on internship acceptance rate: https://www.linkedin.com/posts/joesharron_neuralink-internship-softwareengineering-activity-7141475497439281153-XdLl/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_androidElon's response to me about moving out of Delaware: https://twitter.com/elonmusk/status/1756331713469247500?s=20Delaware judge's official court ruling: https://courts.delaware.gov/Opinions/Download.aspx?id=359340Shivon's post - "Man in the Arena": https://twitter.com/shivon/status/1384990175298658304/photo/1X: https://www.x.com/ryantanaka3/Support: https://www.patreon.com/neurapod/Opinions are my own. Think a tiny chip could be the answer to blindness? Sounds like sci-fi, right? Well, you might want to think again.
Here’s a clip of Elon sharing the first two problems his company Neuralink is focused on solving.
Around 40 million people around the world have some form of blindness. This number continues to grow, but fortunately this problem may become an issue of the past.
If you’ve been subscribed to Neura Pod, and already understand the basics of how Neuralink will work, go ahead and skip the next 60 seconds of the video.
So far, Neuralink has demonstrated they’ve successfully been able to implant this quarter-sized package in monkeys and other animals, and now that it’s time to test in humans, you’re probably wondering how this tiny package will be able to provide vision to those who don’t currently have it. Neuralink is working on building a brain-machine interface, or device that will help us send information from our brains to our computers and vice versa.
The surgery will require cutting open a hole in the skull, and having a surgical robot sew these very tiny threads into the brain. The threads have probes that can detect electrical impulses from the neurons and then send this information back to the chips.
Since there are many problems Neuralink hopes to solve in the future, like depression, blindness, or paralysis, they have to identify the best areas of the brain to implant these chips. In the case of paralysis for example, they’ll implant in both the motor cortex and the spinal cord. In the case of solving blindness, they’ll implant in the visual cortex in the back of the brain.
I had the chance to interview James Douma and ask him for more detail on how they’ll be able to achieve this.
Thanks for watching. My name is Ryan Tanaka. If you’re interested in hearing more from James about how Neuralink works, check out this video.

This premium episode is a documentary-style video about the history and importance of Alphabet subsidiary, DeepMind. Demis Hassabis, the founder, was a chess prodigy by the time he was 13 years old. He went on to conclude he wanted to "solve intelligence" by building artificial intelligence agents and using digital tools. The team at DeepMind has created systems that defeated the world's best chess and Go professionals. They've also cracked the code on the infamous 'protein-folding problem.' Demis Hassabis and DeepMind are fascinating. Moreover, they're still just getting started.

After selling his company, Braintree/Venmo, for $800 million and battling chronic depression for 10 years, Bryan Johnson is now on a mission to help us measure and gather more data about the organ that makes us oh-so-human: our brain.
In this episode, Ryan Tanaka and Omar Olivares share an exclusive, behind-the-scenes look at Kernel’s headquarters near Los Angeles, California. Ryan interviews Bryan Johnson tries on Kernel's wearable brain interface, 'Flow,' and learns about the engineering and technology developments needed to make it all happen. CTO, Ryan Field and Director of Applied Neuroscience, Katherine Perdue also share insights about Kernel's wearable Flow headset.

Welcome to Neura Pod, where we share updates about the company Neuralink. This Elon Musk-founded company is working on surgical brain implants, that’ll enable humans to talk to each other telepathically, and help paralyzed people walk again.
Unfortunately, the journey to achieving these goals is not a straight line. The engineering required to make these devices is fraught with challenges. There are also plenty of doubters, skeptics, and people who are genuinely afraid of what could happen with the new tech. This has once again become apparent recently as numerous headlines have claimed animal abuse and mistreatment at the company.
This update episode will start with the allegations being made, then share the highlights of Neuralink’s response. Next, we’ll have highlights of Lex Fridman’s interview with Tim Urban, the creator of the popular website and blog: WaitButWhy. After that, we’ll talk about an exciting trip Omar and I recently took to Kernel’s company headquarters right outside Los Angeles, California- which as a reminder is the brain-interface company Elon once considered joining. Then, we’ll share highlights of Joe Rogan’s interview with YouTube phenom- Mr. Beast where they ended up chatting about Neuralink quite a bit. We’ll also share an update on the potential merging of Tesla, SpaceX, Neuralink, and the Boring Company. Lastly, we’ll discuss Neuralink and Kernel and their respective hiring needs. I also share I’ve started a company to help retirees do consulting work as easily and flexibly as possible: Reterns. https://www.reterns.com/

Most people aren't aware of what the company does, or how it does it. If you know other people who are curious about what Neuralink is doing, this is a nice summary episode to share. Tesla, SpaceX, and the Boring Company are going to have to get used to their newest sibling. Neuralink is going to change how humans think, act, learn, and share information.

Have you ever wondered how our brain really works? This episode is about one of the most ambitious projects in the history of neuroscience, The Human Connectome Project. The purpose of the project is to help show us what's happening under our skull by building a detailed activity map of the human brain. This would also enable research into brain disorders such as dyslexia, autism, Alzheimer’s, and schizophrenia.
