Upcoming Events: I do a lot of community service and am going to be in the news soon for helping coordinate the collection of formal wear for the upcoming proms of the two high schools in town. I offer private paint classes with several scheduled this month and am working to offer a paint demonstration at a local winery in the next month. I also carry the work of several local artists and share my space with them to offer classes in their areas of art as well (pottery, dried flower arranging and more)

What if your greatest creative superpower wasn't talent—but vulnerability?
In this episode of The Motivatarian Exchange with Dionne Woods, Dionne sits down with groundbreaking portrait artist ShenShen210 for a conversation that moves from freight trains and graffiti culture to faith, purpose, and the courage to fully embody who you were created to be.
Growing up in the Bay Area of San Francisco, Shen began painting at just 15 years old—eventually becoming known as one of the first female freight train graffiti artists on the West Coast. Porsha’s story begins in a small rural town in Georgia, where she grew up as the oldest of four, daughter to farmers, and learned to create anything with her hands from a young age. After high school, she enlisted in the Marine Corps and served six years, a season that strengthened her courage and shaped the resilience she carries into every part of her life. It was there she met her husband, began building a family, and set the foundation for her journey of service and creativity.

Cherie Burbach has been an artist and writer ever since she was a young child. Creativity was a safe place for her and a way to work through a turbulent childhood. Drawing and writing poetry were how she worked through anything that made her sad or scared.

I have never met a stranger; honestly, I am a party of one. Life is one big adventure for me, and I am here to enjoy it all.
If music plays with a good beat, my body takes over and starts to dance, even in public at the grocery store (but I try to keep it under control).
I met and got engaged to my husband of 31 years after only spending about five days together. It was love at first sight.
I can eat an Ice Cream Sundae 12" tall and finish my husband's. And walk away feeling fine. My body can absorb ridiculous amounts of Ice Cream (I only do this about twice a year).
I love to go dumpster diving, like some people love thrifting. I am never tired of hunting down free stuff that people throw out. I am not above ripping open garbage bags if I think there is something worth getting out of it. And yes, that's gross. LOL.

Lisa Worley was born in upstate New York. Growing up, her mother was an interior designer and Faux finisher and Lisa would go to job sites with her and help her while getting hands-on experience. That’s where her passion for art and interior design began.
Lisa has been a Master Faux Finisher for over 25 years. She studied abroad throughout Italy to learn the old master's techniques of a decorative faux finish. Lisa also studied the art of finishing with several well-respected artists in the industry from Gary Lord to Martin Allen Hirsch.
In the late 90s, Lisa became a distributor and instructor for Faux Effects international and taught classes at her studio. A couple of years later, she went to a local college and studied interior design. One of her favorite things she learned in interior design was the theory of color. That made all the difference in the world for her. It opened her eyes to the endless possibilities of color combinations.
Lisa’s business is very labor intensive. At 53, climbing on scaffolding and ladders over the years is starting to take a toll on certain parts of her body, but has inspired her to reinvent herself and her business.

Dionne Woods talks with Sarah Berry on the Paint Talks Podcast. Sarah is an entrepreneur, CEO, volunteer, and a support staff to her husband’s small business. But those are her official titles. The most important names she goes by are “mom, wife, daughter, sister," and "friend.”
The most challenging, yet rewarding, capacity she has worked in, (just behind motherhood!), has been that of self-employment. Although she has had an entrepreneurial “spark” most of her life, she officially started her small business journey in January 2014, with absolutely no clue what she was doing! Jen Cushman is a natural storyteller drawn to the imperfect, the quirky, the artsy and the authentic. She’s spent 25 years as a mixed-media artist and instructor, authored two jewelry-making books, appeared on numerous DIY television shows as a guest artist and has been widely published in national magazines. Katie Lila of Flowers For People is a fresh flower artist who is currently making a new TV series, Follow The Blooms on the BloomTV Network. In it, she travels to small flower farms throughout the country to find the best blooms at their peak and then creates big-impact, interactive designs for events such as parades, art and music festivals, a professional treehouse reveal, and even an underwater mermaid garden in the Florida Springs. In 2019, she decided to take a leap of faith and leave her teaching profession of 17 years. She traveled for the remainder of 2019 before she decided to pursue a career in the travel industry in March 2020. Unfortunately, due to COVID, she was among many who were laid off and travel was no longer an option due to the many restrictions in the industry.
Because of her love for the outdoors and nature, she went on many picnics. It was then she decided to launch her business. Dionne Woods chat with Chris Jeanguenat, a Virginia painter, whose fun, illustrative paintings reflect her love of nature and adventure. She works primarily in acrylic and chalk paint and will paint anything if it stands still long enough. Her inspiration is taken from raising two sons, with her playful pitbull and her husband and high school sweetheart. Her childhood adventures, from living in 300 acres of solitary forests, digging for treasures, building forts, climbing trees with books and snacks, are threaded within her paintings. Chris hopes the viewer can feel as if they've stepped into their own magical childhood memories.
She currently shows her work at the Bay School Community Arts Center, Pop Shop by Jo Louise in Newport News, Gallerie Ukwensi in Ghent, as well as local restaurants, coffee houses and shops. She also has been a featured artist at the Norfolk Botanical Gardens in 2021, 2022 and 2023.

She is currently based in Berlin, Germany, with paintings represented in private collections globally. Esther was professionally trained in classical drawing & oil painting at Grekov Odessa Art School - the oldest and one of the most renowned schools of art in Ukraine. After her graduation, she moved to Western Ukraine. She continued her studies at Transcarpathian Art Institute for two more years learning about authentic Ukrainian art and folk crafts and obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Fine Art. She was also given the opportunity to go abroad to be part of various art programs in the United States & Europe. One of her most life-changing experiences was taking the Mastery Program at Milan Art Institute in the USA. It was there she developed her unique style and artistic voice.
Her artwork is colorful and vibrant, full of narrative and storytelling. She traveled all over the world to collect and gather inspiration from various cultures. During her travels, Esther was driven to create artwork that would speak to everyone and empower many. To her, art in any form has always been a unique tool that makes a difference in this world. It doesn't have language or cultural barriers and speaks directly to the human heart. It's a unique way to express the worlds within and around us, capture the moments in their very essence, and make them tell stories.
Her paintings are made in the style of abstract realism. She uses various mixed techniques: acrylic, inks, graphite, and collage, and completes the work with oil paints. Esther loves color and loves to experiment with it. Her style is peculiar and unique. In the recent series, Esther paints the beauty and prophetic calling of her own homeland. Now like never before she wants to make the destiny of Ukraine known to the world. Dionne Woods of the Paint Talks Podcast chats with Melanie Hamann of Art by Melanie. She is an Oklahoma artist with a lifelong love of creating, teaching, and possibilities. She currently resides in western Oklahoma with her 8-year-old rescue dog Ruby. For many years, while her children were young, designing stage backdrops and floats kept that creative fire alive. While her medium of choice is generally acrylic paintings, mixed media, watercolor, and pen and ink are a very close second. Heavily inspired by music, she sees anything as a potential canvas, including guitars, violins, and cases which are some of her favorites to paint. Melanie teaches both online and in-person classes, assisting others as they find their own magic.
Art has been Melanie’s saving grace through an incredibly difficult marriage and subsequent divorce. When words fail art is there. The most important thing that she has learned in her art journey is that creating heals, it allows time away from difficult situations, and provides a rest for your soul and the ability to remember who you are. Melanie has met so many wonderful people through the years with amazing stories of strength and residency, many of which she would never have met without art.

She started painting furniture about 9 years ago when she decided to upcycle an old dresser for her youngest daughter. That one piece sparked a passion in her, and she hasn’t turned back since. Llewellyn has worked slowly towards painting art on pieces learning step-by-step the basics of painting furniture and trying different products. Once she painted that first scene on a piece of furniture it filled her with such excitement and joy, she knew this is what she wanted to do with everything in her being.

Kelly is an Ohio artist that has been creating and practicing art since she was a young girl inspired by her art teacher, she lives with her husband Jeff of 26 years, and their 20-year-old daughter Cassidy. While Kelly teaches many different styles of paint classes and workshops, she specializes in the Intuitive Art process as a way to push her students to new levels of awareness in their own artistic journey. Kelly found her own “artistic fingerprint” (as she refers to it) once she started incorporating this unique soulful practice into her own paintings and believes it’s inclusive to every creator, no matter what their level of painting is.

Sarah Mason Walden is a Nashville native with a deep love of history and world culture. Sarah's background as a professional in entertainment was transmuted into a design career more than a decade ago and her work has been seen in galleries, museums, international stages, magazine covers, and the big and small screen. Her goal is to time travel with elegant whimsy and to take us all on her adventures.
