In this episode of No Excuse to Miss Podcast, Scott Volquartsen is back with Heather Hernandez to take a closer look on life when tragedy strikes. Going to college and excelling in her athletics, Heather received a call her freshman year of college that dramatically changed her life– the unexpected passing of her mother. Heather shares just how difficult it was to continue in everyday life but shares that, as cliche as it may sound, we truly do not know when the last time we speak to someone may be the last time. So, we should be present in every moment and every interaction we have with those we are close to and those that ask us for help.

Scott and Heather discuss throughout the episode different bits of advice and coping strategies to deal with tragedy. Heather shares advice that if you are faced with such an event as losing a loved one, or any stressful or traumatic event, that we have to think of our future and learn to accept it. We don’t have to be happy about the circumstances, but accepting it will help us move forward.

Seeking out those that have gone through similar situations is something that Heather wholeheartedly believes in and claims helped her through the loss of her mother and, eventually, put her in the position to help others. Sharing about her great loss combined with the injuries she had sustained, Heather emphasizes the empowering idea that we can’t wait to accomplish our goals.

In this episode of No Excuse to Miss Podcast, Scott Volquartsen and Chad Wittrock speak to Joshua Coburn all about the importance of taking small steps when we feel that we have hit our rock bottom. Now the owner of the successful business Dissident Cigars, Joshua discusses that this success was born from hitting his own low point and coming to the decision of taking responsibility for his life and all that came with it– the good and the bad.

Using his “small steps” approach in business as well as life, Joshua makes the point that business should maintain awareness of pop culture in order to stay relevant and reach the appropriate audience. The conversation deepens as Chad, Scott, and Joshua discuss that success in business depends on staying aware of change in the industry. This segues into Joshua’s journey with his family and moving from the U.S. to Nicaragua. Being cigar enthusiasts, Joshua and his wife took the opportunity to invest in Dissident Cigars. Noting the importance of focus, Joshua emphasizes that being able to focus is key in managing time with family and balancing that with business.

In this episode of the No Excuse to Miss Podcast, Scott Volquartsen speaks to the inspiring and motivational boxing trainer, Heather Hernandez. Scott and Heather kick off the episode by diving into Heather’s background as an athlete with an “all in” mentality. Although she played sports throughout her collegiate career, boxing is something she found a passion for after college. Being told she was a natural, Heather was even invited to train for Olympic boxing. However, what every athlete seems to fear happened– Heather suffered a career-ending injury. Having her “all in” attitude ingrained in her for so long, her injury did not keep her down, but rather propelled her into the next chapter of her life– coaching others. Scott and Heather further the discussion by hitting on business ideas that value individuality. When putting people first in business Heather says, “the way you interact with people can get you much further than a degree and a piece of paper.” Heather adds to the conversation by sharing her thoughts on how the pandemic has shaped her gym and coaching business, how her injuries have affected her interactions with clients, and how the mental side of recovery is just as important as the physical. Scott and Heather wrap up the conversation by speaking about the future and Heather even launching a podcast of her own.

In this episode of No Excuse to Miss Podcast, Scott Volquartsen speaks to the “Fittest Man on Earth,” himself, Mat Fraser. Scott and Mat start the discussion by paying homage to Mat’s time in Olympic weightlifting training and how it was upended by an intense back injury. Not letting this stop him, Mat explains how adversity fueled him to recover and instilled in him the “not leaving anything to ‘What if?’” attitude that propelled him into a successful career of Crossfit competition.

With an empowering sense of self-awareness fueling him, Mat further discusses how retiring from Crossfit competition led to a transition in business that was project-filled to keep his idle hands busy. That same mantra of “leaving nothing to chance” followed him in business and created the customer experience for the launch of “Hard Work Pays Off” (HWPO). Mat and Scott round out the conversation reflecting on the idea that in business, we strive for progress over perfection, emphasizing the idea that there is always something to make better.

In order to change (leaving behind who we are and start being who we want to be) we first need to have courage. Courage to take a leap of faith and leave the current job, courage to start making healthy choices in the kitchen, courage to dive deep into a side hustle, and courage to face the challenges of changing. But one thing remains true on all of these examples: it all starts with small steps.

In this episode of No Excuse to Miss Podcast, Scott welcomes Brian Pannuzzo. Brian is a health coach who works with men wanting to get the body they desire, improve their relationships, and make more money. Brian talks about the importance of taking small steps, day after day, to make a significant change – in all areas of life. With a Wall Street background, Brian explains how he was able to take this leap of faith, switch careers, and more importantly, have the courage to finally change. Tune in!

Nutrition health is one of the main and most discussed topics in our society nowadays, especially in the past year and a half. Although being part of a trending debate, there is a lot of misinformation and incorrect facts out there about nutrition, eating practices, benefits of certain types of nutrients, and food in general. Not only that, the discussion about nutrition has become very polarized recently; with a lot of people firmly defending different diet philosophies like veganism and meat-based diet.

Discipline is about taking action no matter what, getting a result from that action, being inspired to do it again, and then doing it again. This cycle of action and result is responsible for making people realize that achieving a goal is doable if you just get consistent with the process. In the bodybuilding scenario, discipline is not only required to achieve a goal, but it’s also innate in the life of every athlete.

In this week’s episode of the No Excuse to Miss Podcast, Scott welcomes Cody Montgomery to talk about all things related to bodybuilding and how discipline is fundamental when he’s preparing for a competition.
