Do not fall into the trap of thinking that your leadership, creativity, or your leadership of creativity is not needed at this time.
We might need to apologize for other things, but we'll never need to apologize for clarity.
This Episode of The Leading Creative Podcast is brought to you by The Home Squad.

How do you respond when someone tells you to stay in your lane? Have you ever told someone to stay in their lane? As Leaders of Creative, should we stay in our lanes? On this episode, I suggest a hybrid of a solution to this sharp phrase of stay in your lane.
Run your race, sure. We've all heard that, and it's true and we should. But, as leaders of creative, we absolutely should not wait for the course to be planned by someone else in order to begin running.
As Leaders of Creative we talk a really good game of how we prioritize and appreciate our people. But it's not enough that we talk about it, they have to actually feel it.
Sarcasm and Passive Aggression run far too rampant in our world of Leadership of Creativity. It's high time we stop the cycle.
"Have a safe weekend!"
"Be safe out there!"
"Have a safe day at work!"
We hear it all the time. While I am all for Safety, I also believe it's a given. It's a rule of the game, but it is definitely not a strategy for winning. Safety is important, but it does not inspire.
No matter what accomplishments we make, somebody always helps us. It's good to remember this every now and again.
The hard work of getting down off our pedestal and doing the work we are meant to be doing.
Bad ideas need no help presenting themselves as bad. So then, what do we do with bad ideas?
Bad leaders speak poorly of the competition. Good leaders never speak poorly of the competition. Great leaders, though, great leaders celebrate the competition.
One critical (and clarifying) question we need to ask before taking on or taking over a new project.
In Leadership, Grace & Truth go together. They are a pair. Unfortunately, all too often we find ourselves letting the pendulum swing too far in favor of one over the other.
This week I continue my conversation with performer, director, creator, and owner of Odd-O-Ts' Entertainment, Todd Zimmerman.
Todd is a performer, director, creator, and owner of Odd-O-Ts' Entertainment. On this episode I talk with him about how he maintains Influence, as well as his creative process.
Change is inevitable when it comes to Leadership and Creativity. It's not if change is coming, it's when. On this episode we talk two strategies for Leading well through Change.
Last week we discussed Keystone Habits regarding Leadership. This week, not so surprisingly on the Leading Creative Podcast, we'll be discussing Keystone Habits regarding Creativity.
Everyone has Keystone Habits, whether you know it or not. On this episode we discuss Keystone Habits when it comes to your Leadership.
Leaders tend to be questioners. The problem is, we also hate being questioned. On this episode I share some tips, tricks, and hacks to get out from under all the questions.
Everyone's an expert in something. Get the expert's thing right. Because if you get their thing right, chances are good that...
...spoiler alert...
...they'll think you got everything else right too.
I have a confession to make... I broke one of my leading creative rules. Here's the story...
On this episode of The Leading Creative Podcast I share a story from my teenage years and the lesson it taught me that I'm still using today.
Ask of yourself, your leadership, and your creativity: What do I need?
With such quick and easy access to leadership and creativity podcasts, books, blogs, articles, and conferences, some of us may have gotten too wrapped up in information and education that we lose sight of what makes every leader special and beautifully imperfect. Maybe we just might know a little too much.
On this episode of The Leading Creative Podcast I chat with speaker, author, and dreamer, Terry Weaver. We talk about his new book, Making Elephants Fly (available at TerryWeaver.com).
We also talk about starting things that are new, starting things that are yours, and whatever else your Thing is.
Come hang out with us in Orlando on May 17, 18, & 19 for his conference, TheThing.live.
Respect the chain of command as it leads up, sure. But we must also respect the chain of command as we lead down into the creative process.
In this episode I talk with Cole NeSmith, Executive & Creative Director of Creative City Project.
The final part in the three part series on Motivation, Purpose.
We all need to know that what we are working on is far bigger than us and will live beyond us.
Zeroing in on Purpose is the final ingredient on building toward and maintaining Motivation for you and the teams you lead.
We want to know we are great at what we do, or at least we're getting better. Are you, as the Leader of Creative, giving your team the tools they need to move toward Mastery?
This week on The Leading Creative Podcast, we begin a three part series on the topic of Motivation. Motivation to Lead and Motivation to Create.
Part I: Autonomy.
Creatives don't mind being told what to do, they mind being told how to do it.
Shalisa James is the President of Entertainment Central Productions. In this episode, Rob has a conversation with Shalisa regarding her leadership style and the intentionality behind their creative company culture.
Enjoy!
In this episode we talk about your energy. Taking responsibility for the energy you bring into any room, as well as some practical steps to take to bring and maintain your energy.
Values are just about the only thing a leader can call their own. This episode will give you some ideas, pointers, and a game plan to define, decide, and maintain your values.
This week we are talking about intentional perspective change. Changing your point of view in order two spark new innovation. Go outside!
In this episode, Jamie Kern pulls back the curtain on Disney Parks Live Entertainment as well as some of the inner workings of Madison Square Garden.
After I have completed a major project, I like to circle back and look at the successes and why those elements were successful. I also like to look back at the areas I feel could use improvement and begin some action plans to improve those areas.
I can review most of the systems and processes of the project with my creative/production team, or on my own. However, there is one big element of every project I'm involved in that always proves difficult to truly honestly review:
Me.
And if you're the leader, it's you too! If you're a leader of creative, often times, getting honest and helpful feedback is tough.
Here are four terrifying questions to get the feedback you need to become the leader you want to be.
(They aren't actually all that terrifying. I just used that word for click bait.)
My Guest today is Tony DeRosa.
Tony is a well known leader in a bunch of musical circles including, studio session singing, music directing, and of course Barbershop harmony.
In this episode we talk with Jani Walsh-Weber: Resident Director for Disney Theatrical, Show Director for Disney Event Group and Disney Parks & Entertainment, Broadway Veteran, as well as director and choreographer for numerous independent projects.
We can't do it alone! We need help!
You know this, I know this, and yet, why do we have such a hard time asking for help?
In this episode I'll share some tips, tricks, and strategies for making connections, maintaining relationships, and building teams to get the help we need to solve the problems we have and do the creative work we're meant to do.
Just start. Thats all you have to do. Start. Do the next thing. That's all you have to worry about. Starting.
You know what the world does not need? The world does not need another podcast. If you're anything like me, you probably have a podcast queue full, overflowing, and almost impossible to keep up with. That said, you know what the world does need? A podcast dedicated to clarifying the confusing intersection of Leadership and Creativity. In this introduction episode I'll unpack just how I plan to do that.
