His interview begins with a legendary Key West smuggler, a childhood friend of his very straight-laced father and mother (or so he thought).

In the early 1970s until the early 1980s, Norberto Belafonte Diaz smuggled marijuana into the Keys. During the interview he takes Bobby on a winding trail, not only down the backroads of their island home but also down the backroads of that dark history. Bobby is introduced to some of the most memorable characters of that time, each with their own adventure-filled stories.

But unbeknownst to Bobby, Norberto is leading him down a path that he has chosen carefully.

Key West: A Smuggler's Tale teaches us in the end that under the watchful eye of fate, old wounds can be finally healed.

This interview happened 30 minutes before the band went on stage for the beginning of their national tour, down here at the Key West Amphitheater.

It may have been short, but for those fans out there, we touched on the bands origin story and their beginnings.

The group formed in 2003 when punk rocker Dustin Bushnell (aka Duddy B) asked his friend, rapper Jared Watson (aka Dirty J), to collaborate on a project that would focus on positive vibes and infectious grooves. Watson added singing to his vocal skills, and with percussionist Jon Olazabal, an acoustic trio version of Dirty Heads began playing shows and building an audience.

They soon hooked up with producer Rob Cavallo and headed into the studio to record their debut album for Warner Bros., but differences with the label had them looking for other opportunities. Still, the band was able to retain most of its work, including sessions with drummer Josh Freese, along with the late-Beatles collaborator Billy Preston in one of the keyboardist’s last recordings. The finished album, Any Port in a Storm, would arrive in 2008, with a deluxe edition following in 2010. The deluxe version featured the track “Lay Me Down” with special guest Rome Ramirez of Sublime with Rome. The song would top Billboard’s Alternative Songs chart just before the summer of 2010.

They followed up two years later with Cabin by the Sea and later recorded an acoustic version of the title track. This, in turn, led to an entire acoustic album in 2013 called Home: Phantoms of Summer. Dirty Heads’ next album, Sound of Change, would prove to be a breakthrough for the now-veteran band, debuting at number eight on the Billboard Top 200 while topping the Independent and Alternative Albums charts upon its May 2014 release.

Building on their renewed success, Dirty Heads enlisted a bevy of industry hitmakers to work on their self-titled 2016 follow-up, which — thanks to its mainstream appeal — again charted high on the Billboard Top 200. The following year saw the band drop its sixth studio album, Swim Team, featuring the singles “Vacation” and “Staloney.” Also included on the album was the track “So Glad You Made It,” featuring 311’s Nick Hexum. The single “Listen to Me” arrived in early 2019 and was later included on Dirty Heads’ Dave Cobb-produced seventh album Super Moon. ~ David Jeffries, Rovi

More on Better Than Sex - A Dessert Restaurant Our dream began in 2003. As newlyweds, I was eager to make my husbands every desire a reality, so when he exclaimed to me “I want dessert!”, I wanted to impress!

Four hours later after patiently waiting, a fully decorated two-layer Oreo Cookie Cake appeared. Len was a happy hubby. He proclaimed it ‘amazingly delicious’ and said: “wow if you can do this, what else can you do?” I am not one for letting go of a challenge and really wanted to “show him” what I could do! Then began the odyssey that leads us to today.

My love of baking stemmed from fond memories in my Italian family’s kitchen alongside my mom. So, I continued and began teaching myself how to bake. I collected all of my recipes, saved receipts, and took photos of everything I made. Something guided me to do this without reason for several years. Our concept for BTS had not formed yet. I would bring my creations to work and test them out on friends and co-workers. They would often exclaim “you should do this for a living.” Len and I secretly agreed.

When Len said to me ‘write a menu’ and “I’ll write the business plan,” challenge #2 was accepted. We knew we wanted to create an after-dinner experience, an extension of an evening in a romantic and sophisticated sexy atmosphere. And so, it begins….

In 2006 we threw a Valentine’s Day Dessert party at our house and invited a few unsuspecting friends. Some of the dessert items we have on the menu today were tested on them. Our idea to open a dessert-only restaurant was officially validated that night.

We put our twisted minds together and had an incredibly fun time creating what is now Better Than Sex - A Dessert Restaurant.

On May 20, 2008, we officially opened at our original location, 411 Petronia Street to a full house!

We always believed in our idea and ourselves, however, the road after was a bit more challenging. The first reviews were less than positive and at one point we only had a few thousand dollars to our names. We Never Quit!

Then in 2010 Better Than Sex was featured on the Travel Channel and the rest is history. By 2012 the little location on Petronia Street was standing room only. We needed a bigger restaurant. It was decided to pick up and move to the current Key West location. Our last night at the Petronia location featured our team and guests picking up their tables and chairs and walking them down the block and setting them up in the new space.

On December 26th, 2015 we opened our Orlando location. Len and I met over 20 years ago waiting tables in Orlando and it seemed like a perfect fit for our second spot. Orlando opened its doors to a packed house and has been successful since.

Coming full circle, on Valentines’ Day of 2016 we were blessed to have been featured on CBS Sunday Morning. As you can see, Valentine’s Day is significant to BTS. “We valentine, all the time.”

We are passionate about what we do and now want to share that opportunity with other like-minded people. We are currently offering our concept to franchise nationwide.

And to think, this was all born from an Oreo Cookie Layer Cake.

Back in 2003, as husband and wife, we made a promise to ourselves….“Lists do work, agreements work, if you believe it, have a partner that can hold you accountable, you can and will make it happen.” We always will!

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office Children's Animal Farm is located on the grounds of the Monroe County Sheriff's Office Stock Island Detention Center, at 5501 College Road in Key West. (The Sheriff's Office Headquarters building and a State Department of Juvenile Justice holding facility are also located in the same complex.)

The farm was started in 1994 in an open area underneath the jail facility. The Stock Island Detention Center was built to withstand a Category Five Hurricane, and is built on stilts, about 11 feet above the ground. Underneath the building is employee parking, and a secure fenced area used for the evacuation of inmates in the case of a fire. It was in this evacuation area, initially a graveled area not used for anything else, that the farm was started.

For award-winning songwriter Kylie Sackley, it’s always been about the songs first. As a wunderkind performer in her birthplace of Australia, Kylie dazzled audiences with her authentic grasp of country, her gorgeously expressive vocals, and her electrifying stage presence. When she won Australia’s most prestigious country music talent search, Star Maker (Keith Urban was a previous winner), she made the fateful decision to go the route of being a professional songwriter, and she hasn’t looked back since.

“First and foremost, I’ve always been a songwriter. Writing songs was just something I had to do,” Kylie states. Kylie also co-wrote Troy Cassar Daley’s “The Sunshine Club,” Alan Jackson’s “It’s Just That Way,” and has penned songs for Thompson Square, John Rich, Lee Brice, and Jodee Messina. Kylie co-wrote the track “Young In America” recorded by Danielle Bradbery, the 2013 US winner of the reality TV show, The Voice. She again found success in her second release, Ruby’s Money, which came steeped in a thick groove with elements of funk – but it was Buffalo, her crowd-funded 2017 release, that marks a milestone in her life and career.

“I’m sincerely grateful for both the good and bad things that have happened in my life. Everyone that I’ve met and worked with over the 20 years that I’ve lived in Nashville has made me who I am, and I will always carry that in my soul,” says Fairchild.

The Jackson, Miss. native started the project in May 2014, launching a PledgeMusic campaign in the hopes that she would find support of her endeavor – and after reaching her goal in just two days, she realized she had. Fairchild's 3rd full length studio record was fully funded and buoyed by the faith of her friends, family and fans.

The next two years saw Fairchild working with some of her most inspirational industry co-writers. “House on Fire,” an aching ballad reflecting on the weight of one’s past, was the first song that she remembers finishing and feeling confident that it deserved a spot on her record. Co-written by Fairchild along with Lisa Carver and Travis Meadows, the track features subtle but classic country instrumentation and the soft harmonies of one of her favorite bands, the Fairground Saints.

From there the singer/songwriter continued to pen songs that she felt carried an important message to either herself or the world around her. Guided by Jeremy Lister and Carey Ott, Fairchild recorded eight of her co-written tracks for the record that would become known to her fans as 'Buffalo'. Though she tackled some serious topics in her writing, Fairchild felt extremely uplifted by her own work and that of others.

“I love singers and songwriters,” she smiles. I love to have camaraderie and deep friendships with great singers and musicians. I feel like our community in Nashville is so rich and some of my favorite voices are my friends. I am so fortunate to have worked with so many great artists on Buffalo like Wendy Moten, Lucie Silvas, K.S. Rhoads, Fairground Saints, and of course Carey & Jeremy. My heart felt like it was going to explode by the end of the recording process."

Not only does Buffalo emphasize its diversity by featuring guest vocalists, but it also highlights a wide array of musical styles and influences.

“There are a lot of different elements to the music that I make,” says Fairchild. “How do you describe some of the best bands that you know? They ended up on pop radio or on country radio, but are they really that kind of act? I have so many influences and I love having them show up in my songs. It feels like that kind of music lasts longer, because it feels real.”

As for the name of her last full length album to date, Fairchild says, "In many Native American cultures, the buffalo is a symbol of gratitude and abundance. I am from Choctaw ancestry and I completely connect with the idea that though buffalo carry a lot on their shoulders, their horns are always pointing up to the sky. There’s always this hope that the weight will be lifted."

A longtime hidden gem in the trove of Nashville musicians, Fairchild continues to keep her head and her heart pointing up to the sky. Between singing background vocals for the likes of Jason Aldean, Eric Church, Martina McBride, Crystal Gayle (to name a few), appearing as a regular on The Grand Ole Opry, writing songs for film and television, touring across the country and continuously working on future projects, it is clear she is just getting started.

“At times I’ve gotten down about my own path, but when I really take a good look at it – it’s not just full of detours and dead ends,” she said. “It’s a wide path, and it’s full of so many spontaneous and amazing things.”

Immediately recognizable, Nick is known for two distinctive gifts: his soulful voice and infectious smile. It's hard to imagine that as a young boy he was told he would never be good enough to sing in the church's youth ensemble in Columbia, South Carolina where he grew up. Today he is truly the man with a golden voice; a talented singer/songwriter who delights his audiences with soulful and inspirational performances.

It was during his childhood when Nick first acquired his passion for music; his father played guitar, while his mother encouraged him to write. Attending Baptist church exposed him to the awe-inspiring power of the choir. “It was how I first learned that you can truly make people feel what you feel, by believing in what you are singing. They sang from their hearts and that is something I believe that cannot be faked.”

As a young man listening to South Carolina’s emerging musicians of the time, such as Edwin McCain and Hootie and the Blowfish, he was also drawing from the styles of legendary artists including Stevie Wonder and The Band. Inspired by an eclectic array of influences Nick created a sound all his own.

Branching out from his home state he performed on stages all over the southeast, eventually finding his way to the Southernmost City of Key West in 2006. As his solo acoustic shows were drawing crowds, Nick’s songwriting was steadily being fueled by the artistic vibe of the island blending with his native southern roots.

In 2010, Nick collaborated with longtime friends Jon Stone & Lee Brice resulting in the recording of his first studio album Hey Cheater. This heartfelt album gave fans a raw look into the personal hardships of Nick’s life by putting his heart on his sleeve in songs such as “Libba Don’t Call” and "Varela St”. Quickly becoming a Key West anthem, “Good Whiskey” can be heard by local musicians throughout Key West on any given evening.

He has performed his original music on stages across the country that include City Winery, The Filmore, Listening Room Nashville, Key West Theater, Rams Head, Vina Robles Amphitheatre, Melody Tent and Island Time Music Festival. He has opened for acts such as Lee Brice, Lee Ann Womack, Edwin McCain, The Wailers, and The Doobie Brothers and founded the highly sought after "Sunday Ramble" concert that features local Key West musicians.

I'm Kelly and I live in gorgeous Key West. I have lived up and down the east coast and finally settled down here in paradise about 5 years ago. My husband and I have had a very adventurous life so Key West seemed like the right spot to call home. Its full of quirky people, great restaurants, amazing happy hours and of course, the amazing turquoise water.

We lived in Maryland most of our lives. I loved living there so much! I not only had a full time job but I bartended on the side for 10 years. That bartending job changed my life. I loved mingling with everyone and learning about so many different people. I really loved that part of it. I ended up doing the bar's website content and handling all of their social media. (Back in those days we only had Myspace.) From websites and social media I ended up planning social events and eventually opening up my own event planning business. That was the best thing I have ever done. I cant even call it a "job", It was just love!

I love helping people make their dreams come true. I love the entire process from the first meeting to the end of the event where the client is sitting back, talking to friends and just enjoying their event. Seeing you happy is my goal.

After we moved from Maryland and down the coast I still wanted to do event planning but we moved a LOT so it was just too hard.

Then we settled down in the Keys and I knew I had to get started again. I felt it in my entire soul that THIS was the time.

We started in Marathon and moved down the island chain and when we hit Key West I knew this was it! Key West has a lot going on at all times. A lot of moving parts to say the least. When visitors come they usually do not know where to start so they head to Duval street, eat, drink and shop and then they feel comfortable and stay there all week. That is totally fine, especially if it is your first time here BUT there is soooo much more to Key West.

That last statement right there made me start a podcast (which is linked in this site) The Local Side of Key West is all about how to do the island like a local. The things you would not think to do on vacation.

So that all being said, that is what has led me to be a personal concierge. I want to help vacationers enjoy Key West without all of the work. I enjoy coordinating, planning and helping people any way that I possibly can. The look on your face when you had the best vacation ever is my end goal!

Craig Wiseman is one of country music’s most renowned, talented and distinguished writers. From his early days of writing and drumming in Hattiesburg, Mississippi to being crowned Songwriter of the Century by ASCAP, he has indeed created for himself a monumental platform in the history of country music. As the writer of songs including Brooks and Dunn’s “Believe” to Blake Shelton’s “Boys ‘Round Here”, Wiseman has amassed over 350 cuts, 125 singles, and 27 #1’s.

After moving to Nashville in 1985 to pursue a career in songwriting, he received his first chart success after having co-written “The Only One” from Roy Orbison’s album, Mystery Girl. In 1990, Wiseman signed his first publishing deal with Almo/Irving Music, and ten years later, he signed with BMG Music Publishing. In 2003, Wiseman opened his own publishing company, and within the first year of the independent company’s operation, Wiseman experienced the first single of the catalog; “Live Like You Were Dying” by Tim McGraw not only peaked at the top of the charts for ten weeks, but it also was named NSAI Song of the Year, CMA Song of the Year, ACM Song of the Year and won the Grammy Award for Best Country Song. In 2012, Wiseman co-founded Big Loud’s management division, the launchpad of Florida Georgia Line, followed by Big Loud Records in 2015.

Wiseman’s success has continued to escalate at exponential levels throughout the years. He was proclaimed ASCAP’s “Songwriter of the Year” in 2003, 2005, and 2007 in addition to being named “Writer of the Year” by NSAI and Music Row in 1997. In 2009, he received the impressive honor of NSAI’s “Songwriter of the Decade” and won the 2014 Heritage Award from ASCAP as the most performed country songwriter of the century. Following those years of success, hard work & accomplishments, Wiseman was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in October of 2015. In 2017, Wiseman was honored with a CMA Triple Play Award for FGL’s “Anything Goes” & Blake Shelton’s “Gonna” & “Came Here To Forget.”

Although his accomplishments are nothing less than extraordinary, Wiseman’s talents and endeavors extend far beyond the field of songwriting. As a complement to Tim McGraw’s “Live Like You Were Dying”, Wiseman co-wrote a book with the same title, which topped the New York Times Best Seller list in 2004. Additionally, he co-wrote the book A Baby Changes Everything in 2008, in conjunction with Faith Hill’s #1 single. The following year, Wiseman starred in a reality TV show, The Hitmen of Music Row, which aired on GAC.

For the past 15 years, Wiseman has hosted The Stars of Second Harvest Show at the Ryman, showing his philanthropic heart and giving all proceeds to the Second Harvest Food Bank Of Middle Tennessee. To date, this musical event has raised more than $1.5 million for the food bank.

A graduate of New York University and the BMI Musical Theater Workshop, between 1999 & 2013 he was a member of the Theatre Arts Faculty at SUNY New Paltz in New York’s Hudson Valley teaching courses in theatre studies, musical theater and performance as well as at Shantigar,the spiritual retreat of playwright Jean-Claude van Italie, and at Kripalu. During that time he was a contributing writer for The Sondheim Review and ABC-CLIO’s Music in American Life. Professional affiliations include a librettist member of Opera America, the Dramatists Guild, and a writer member of ASCAP. Working as a bouncer at a West Texas honky-tonk, Cliff Cody’s life changed forever when the waitress dared him to sing at Karaoke Night. Lucky for Cliff, a band was in the audience looking for a lead singer. They offered Cliff the job that night. The next day he bought a guitar, a week later he had written his first song and 6 months after that, he moved to Nashville.

After living in Nashville for 4 years with little success, Cliff went back to school and became an RN. While at a songwriter’s retreat in Wyoming, he met his songwriting hero—D. Vincent Williams and he told Cliff something that would change his path. “Whatever “it” is, you’ve got it and I don’t think you even realize it.” That was the encouragement he needed and in 2005 Cliff signed his first publishing contract with EMI/Sony Music.

“Chasin Whiskey” was Cliff’s first cut and recognized as a highlight of Julie Roberts’ album “Men and Mascara” by Rolling Stone Magazine. Cliff's second cut was "Glad You're Gone", a song he co-wrote with the members of Halfway to Hazard David Tolliver and Chad Warrix. He co-wrote "Gotta Go to Heaven" with artist Josh Thompson and co-wrote the first single on D. Vincent Williams' freshman album, "Down by the River." Since first playing the Key West Songwriters Festival 12 years ago, Cliff has become a favorite and regular performer in the Keys. He has opened for Dwight Yoakam, Gary Allen, Jamey Johnson, Randy Houser, Phil Vasser, Aaron Lewis, Blackberry Smoke, David Allan Coe, Parmalee, Tracey Lawrence, Travis Tritt, The Charlie Daniels Band, Chris Young, Justin Moore, Ashley McBride and many more. Cliff made the Top 15 national finalists on the ABC talent Show "Rising Star" and wrote a song for the book, "The Shoe-Burnin' - Stories of Southern Soul" available on Amazon. His soulful voice and story telling style of writing has helped Cliff build a loyal following. He makes fast friends and forever fans and once you hear him, you become both.

Cliff met his wife Amy at the legendary Bluebird Cafe and they married in 1998. They live in a log cabin with their 125 pound rescue dog--Bronx in the hills of Appalachian Ohio. They are enormously proud of their only child, Veronica who is an honor student at Ohio Wesleyan University—who doesn’t call home nearly enough.

Bowen was a member of the band West 84 with friend Matt Miller until 2001 when the group became known as Wade Bowen and West 84. He released his first album in 2002, Try Not To Listen, which became a regional hit in Texas. He released his first live album in 2003, recorded live at The Blue Light in Lubbock, Texas, followed by studio albums Lost Hotel in 2006 and If We Ever Make It Home in 2008. On November 21, 2009, Bowen recorded his second live album at Billy Bob's Texas in Fort Worth. The album was released on April 27, 2010, as a CD/DVD combo.

Bowen released his fourth studio album, The Given, in 2010. It was his first on a major label, Sony imprint BNA Records, though he returned to releasing music independently after BNA closed. He released a self-titled studio album in 2014, followed by a duets album in 2015 with singer Randy Rogers of the Randy Rogers Band, titled Hold My Beer Vol. 1. More about Ocean Blues Studio Jasmine Jones Born and raised here in Key West, Jones grew up immersed in color. From the vibrant flora and fauna that thrive on the island, to the picturesque sunsets and ocean seascapes, there was always plenty to draw inspiration from.

She creates her artwork using a combination of alcohol inks, acrylic paint and resin layers to create a body of work with a greater depth than traditional two dimensional paintings. Her paintings focus on vibrant colors, particularly the blues of the ocean, from which the name of the studio is derived.

Katlin Spain Originally from Kansas, Spain immediately fell in love with Key West.

In her studio practice, Spain works to deconstruct familiar shapes & associations by changing their colors, textures, & patterns. She carefully curates them into landscape-like environments where these new objects can coexist.

It is in these vivid other-worldly scenes that the viewer can allow themselves to exist in a land of the sweetness & the phenomena of the 'new.'

Florida Keys SPCA Mission The Florida Keys SPCA is dedicated to promoting the humane treatment of all animals through compassionate care, adoption, education, population control and humane law enforcement.

We are a completely independent, private, not-for-profit organization and are not funded by, any other state or national humane organization. Monroe County funds a contract for FKSPCA to provide animal control services in our jurisdiction, yet for additional community services we provide, we rely on grants, fundraising and donations from supporters like you to help us provide a high standard of care for our animals.

Florida Keys SPCA provides adoption services, essential animal care, as well as animal control & cruelty investigations under contract with Monroe County.

Florida Keys SPCA has operated the Key West animal shelter on Stock Island since 1999, and in Marathon since 2015, providing essential services for Key West, the Lower Keys and Middle Keys between mile marker 0 and 70.

We talk about where she gets her inspiration and, why for heaven's sake, is she not more famous here in Key West! I'm a huge fan of her work and have been for years before I even moved to Key West. The way she turns houses and iconic spots like Sloppy Joes into conch shell paintings are AMAZING!!

More on Abigail White Growing up on the island of Key West has been an inspiring journey. I'm a pastor's daughter and one of nine children; my mother home-schooled me, affording me plenty of free time to draw and paint, two of my favorite things. Key West has an artistic vibe: not only is it gorgeous and chromatic, but artists from around the world gather here and pool their knowledge. It's easy to feed off that vibe and learn from those artists!

One thing artists here love to depict are conch houses. Cute homes constructed by Bahama immigrants in Key West during the 19th century. They get their name from the conch shell because people from the Bahamas were said to eat lots of conch meat. As far as I know, I'm the first to paint literal 'conch houses' with the conch shell as the exterior of house. Key West's symbol is the conch shell so it's appropriate! My art has gone on to include conchs transformed into other things, like boats and a sleigh.

I still live in Key West and continue to draw inspiration from its beauty. I live with my husband, Terence, the Key West high school Cross Country coach (team name: The Fighting Conchs) and our two sons, Atticus and Archie.

In this episode, Mark Baratto sits down with Scott Gerke, a Key West local that many of you know - or will know real soon.

He created the Key West Full Moon Experience, has an event company, is a local DJ, took a stranger on the most epic Key West adventure - and suffers from anxiety.

Like most of us out there, Scott may have looked like he had everything together from the outside. The great job, great apartment, the girl, the height (he is super tall), and living the island life... until he suffered from his first panic attack.

After many months of feeling lost, Scott did what any reasonable person did; he sold all of his stuff and build a tiny house out of his Sprinter Van.

Scott found himself driving all over the country and documenting his journey. A journey which you can find on his YouTube channel called, "Once a Stranger, Now a Friend."

As someone who loves to meet new people, I created a little summer journey meeting random strangers and documenting the experiences I have with them, all through the power of hello. I grew up in a very unique way and learned values that aren’t taught much these days. My grandfather was my mentor.

He taught me how to run liquor starting when I was 9 years old. We hid our stills in an old smokehouse on the farm that we used to smoke Country Hams.

It was a simple but effective operation. In the winter we switched from whiskey making to gambling.

This is the lifestyle that kept our family fed for generations.

There was a certain respect that we had in the community and some romance to the process. My Grandfather always said that “Behind every great spirit is a great story”.

JD Martin has followed his grandfather’s wisdom and offers just that through the Key West Trading Company, great spirits with great stories.

He combines old world technique with modern processes such as the TerrePure process used in making their spirits today.

We met in Alaska and since then have been looking for a place that reminded us of that frontier spirit… we found it in Key West.

As often as we can we travel back to Key West and enjoy every minute we have on the Island. Our youngest lives in Florida, so it gives us a great excuse to stop in and say “hi” to him before we travel down to the Keys. Our boys finally were able to take a trip to the Keys and now have been bitten by the bug…. the Key West bug… and they travel there as often as they can too.

Which brings us to why we have created this website. We want to help you plan your trips down to Key West. Notice I said “trips”? You will want to visit over and over again …. trust us on that! Reach out we are here to answer your questions and help you not be overwhelmed when planning your trip.

Want to explore ideas on your own? Check out our website. Every one of our posts is written by us… which means, we only write about what we have done, seen, or been. You get our honest opinion about a restaurant, bar, or tour.

Kevin is a wonderful photographer and most of our website is filled with his photos. I use my iPhone and find it does a pretty decent job. Also, I write most of the articles – so if you find grammatical errors or unfinished thoughts… let me know… I will probably blame it on tequila but will appreciate your input.

COVID - 19
We are adhering to the guidelines provided to us by the CDC, State of Florida, as well as the county/city. To reduce the spread of COVID - 19 enhanced safety measures will be put in place for out crew and guests. All guests will have temperature checks upon arrival. If an individual's temperature is 100.4 °F or higher, they will not be permitted to board. Social distancing procedures will be in place throughout the experience. Hand sanitizer will be available before, during, and after each trip. We will be diligent about disinfecting all frequently touched objects. Guests are required to wear masks to and from the tikis (while waiting on the dock, walking down the dock, and leaving the dock).

In this episode, Mark Baratto sits down with artists Marianne van den Broek to talk about her amazing sand sculptures found around town in Key West.

We talk about how Marianne began her journey as a sand sculptor, and how she turned a "summer job" into a passion project with a full-time residence at Casa Marina, A Waldorf Astoria Resort.

More on Just Sand and Water Marianne van den Broek has been a sand sculptor since 1999. She has participated in many events around the world, working with different sculptors, learning from the best and continues to work with awesome people.

She moved from the Netherlands to Key West in 2005 and now runs her own sand sculpting business out of Key West Florida.

In addition to being the artist in residence for the Casa Marina Resort in Key West, she is a part-time educator and serves as the vice-chair on the City of Key West's Art in Public Places Board.

She loves being on the water and is a charter boat captain on the side.
