WHO WE ARE: One Light Community is the Student Ministry of Augusta Korean Methodist Church. This includes Middle School, High School, College and some twenty-something’s.
We exist to honor Jesus, serve others, connect, equip and multiply culturally diverse students for the glory of God.
WHY: We do this because we believe that The Church is not just a single demographic but rather a community that is centered around the salvation and lordship of Jesus Christ.
OUR NAME: This is the idea behind the name of our community. Every color represents a student that is different and even though they might be different they have a place in our community.
VALUES: We value multigenerational community. This is why we try to bring together so many student age groups. Our desire is to teach them in this microcosm, through life together, to value people from all stages of their lives. We also do this by volunteering our energy to aid the adult congregations, serve on mission trips and help with children’s ministry. We value developing leaders, therefore each of our older students, mainly College and above, recognize their roles as older brothers and sisters to the younger ones. We do this by using our College Students in leadership roles for our various yearly trips. We value all cultures, therefore we are multicultural, having Koreans, Caucasians, Filipinos, Taiwanese, Latinos, Chinese, African-Americans, mixed, military, missionary kids and whoever else shows up on a given weekend!

Ever since the beginning of time, God has be intricately involved. How can we maintain that involvement as we choose the one we wish to spend the rest of our lives with?
Ephesians 5:21-30 | When we examine ourselves, we begin to realize the things we need to work on before we decide to marry. These issues do not magically disappear with marriage, which is why it is all the more important to address them now. So what kind of questions do I need to ask to know if I'm ready for marriage?
Matthew 19:3-6 | Let's talk about sex. Not just what it is, but what is the "higher view" that Jesus intended for us when he described the joining of flesh between husband and wife in marriage? How can we attain this higher view?

"Hold fast" was a term used by sailors to hold on for dear life when the raging storms hit their ship at sea. What's the point of holding onto Jesus when life's storms come at us? Jesus has our best interests in mind, even when we struggle with faith. Hold fast to Jesus when times are tough; there will be a time where we can let go and where we are safe. How do you deal with spiritual failure after failure and still turn to Jesus? We find the failures of the disciples a great example for this. When Jesus was arrested all the disciples scattered. When Jesus was dying on the cross, only one disciple remained. It was John. We’re taking a look at the life of John and what made him different. Scripture reading: John 13:18-30
Surprising to most, doubt is actually not a sin. But when we dwell on our doubt and let sin take over, then it becomes a problem. Even figures in the Bible such as John the Baptist had their doubts, but Jesus encourages us not to "stumble on account of Him." Wrestle with doubt, but let it deepen your faith and draw you closer to the Lord. Scripture reading: Luke 7:18-23
Being alone and being lonely are two different things. But the important thing to realize is that loneliness doesn't have to be a thing if we are developing intimate relationships with those around us. In order to develop that intimacy, we need to start with our relationship with God. When we communicate with Him and revel in His goodness, we are able to live a more abundant life. The big idea that Katie shared was that when we root our identity in God and surrender it all to Him, He is able to change everything, even if we can't see it. Don't be fooled; addictions are everywhere and can manifest as many different things. When we begin to depend on other things for security, it leads to isolation and despair. In this sermon, Howard shares with us that we are all actually slaves to something, but the difference here is the outcome. Being a slave to Christ might sound strange, but when the outcome is eternal life, maybe it isn't that bad after all. Scripture reading: Romans 6:20-23
Okay, so maybe the Bible doesn't explicitly address the use of illicit drugs, but the issue here doesn't lie with which drugs we can or cannot use. Jesus desires for us to give everything to him, and the consequences of using drugs can prevent us from doing so. How do we know that God's mission will succeed? Well we should know that God is in control of everything that happens around us. There may be some tragedies along the way in his mission, but God allows them to happen for the completing of his mission, for his glory he carries out missions through us, and he is in control of it all. The mission of God may not be about you, but it continues with you. When it comes to missions, people generally expect certain things to happen while they are there. That is where we struggle in hearts between gaining experience from doing the mission of God and expecting to see miraculous things happen for your own pleasure. Wanting to go on missions should be from your adoration towards God and his mission, not from your need to make yourself feel better by being spiritually affected by these missions. Know the mission of God. Do the mission of God for God, not for yourself. AKMC Mission Retreat Special
One of the things that the church does not talk to the congregation about is Islam. However, the church should preach on Islam because many people have a strong negative opinion of Muslims, and they have to be taught that not all Muslims are who they think they are. We as Christians have to love them and show our faith to them. Scripture reading: Ephesians 6:12

However, God is not about any of what we have on the outside. He only cares for what is in our hearts, who we really are as God made us. In the context of today's society, racism is a significant barrier from allowing others to see eye to eye.
