As a fully-remote team across many different states, we haven't had a whole lot of face-to-face time with each other. This team retreat was actually the first time we have all been in one room together! 🤯 And while we love being fully-remote, it has been such a nice change of pace to sit down at a table together and talk about all the things!
We had some really productive conversations where we got to bounce ideas off each other in a way that just can't be done via Zoom. Plus, plenty of time for fun & wild activities.

The summer, we had the amazing opportunity to help Reinaldo Villa build a new no gi BJJ gym here in Bastrop. We’ve spent the last few weeks using our business experience to put it all together, supporting Rei’s vision, creating a brand, and turning an empty room into a functioning gym. It’s been an enormous project, and we are so excited to have opened our doors on Monday to a heartwarming flood of guys and gals from gyms all over the area welcoming us to the community. Did ya hear? We got a house! 🏡 We are now knee-deep in becoming real homeowners, from fixing toilets to picking out furniture. We have so much space to consider now, including a big, open kitchen, and two guest bedrooms. It’s a big change from our 300 sq ft RV!

We've been traveling for work so much lately, Tucson is the first time in a while that we have felt like we are on vacation! 🌵 🚐 When we first started RVing, it was a few months before we were able to travel just for fun, and Tucson was one of the first places we decided to visit. A good thing, too, because it turned out to be our favorite vacation destination! Last week, we went on our second bowhunting adventure in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan 🏹 Our second hunting season was good to us, we turned an old acquaintance into a good friend, spent some quality time in the beautiful outdoors, and left with a freezer full of some of the best meat we’ve ever had. Carpe Geo is our motto 🌎 because living on the road, our hobbies and interests are always fluctuating based on where we are. Some places are better for spending time outside (like our recent stay in Memphis), and other places are better for doing a ton of jiu jitsu, or rock climbing, archery, or even work.
If we don't pay attention, it can sometimes feel like we don't have any control over our own hobbies and interests! But we've learned that as long as we stay on top of things and know what we want to accomplish, the different phases of our life based on our travels are really refreshing ❤️

It's been a fun couple of weeks out in Missouri! We finally broke in our new shotgun, Andrea went out on her first squirrel hunt, and we stocked our freezer with a big haul of tasty Missouri crappie. What we've learned: seeing your clay pigeon explode is one of the best feelings in the world 🎇 it's really difficult to get a squirrel to sit still 🐿 and Tyler is re-obsessed with fishing! 🎣

Last weekend the Wild Hixsons attended our first jiu jitsu camp: Midwest Training Camp 🤼♂️ No surprises here, it was awesome! We met so many new friends and learned a ton, and we can’t wait to get to our next jiu jitsu camp and do it all again🤙
As if that wasn’t exciting enough, we also sat down and planned everywhere we’re going for the next couple of months. Traveling full-time truly is a full-time job, and it took us a whole day to plan our next travels. But we are excited to be back on the road after staying in one place for a while! 🚐🛣

When I (Andrea) first started training Brazilian jiu jitsu, we decided we should film my jiu jitsu journey “just in case.” Then a few months in, I started to see how life-changing this sport truly is, both in my experience and in the experience of the other women I’ve met in my training.
This is the story of my own first steps into Brazilian jiu jitsu, and it’s the story behind the powerful American Jiujiteiras I meet in my travels. But most importantly, American Jiujiteira is the story of how engaging with conflict can empower a woman to find strength she didn’t know she had.

Ep 033: Remembering Mose
Sadly, last week we had to say goodbye to our sweet little guinea pig. Mose was the cutest, most well-traveled, cuddliest potato-shaped furry friend, and in our opinion, undeniably the best piggie ever. He has been laid to rest underneath a beautiful maple tree at Tyler’s parents’ house where we can always remember him ❤️

Ep 030: A Hog Hunting Detour
We closed out our second hunting trip ✌️ We learned so much this time around, and while we didn't come away with a freezer full of hogs, we did have a different version of success! Even though we couldn’t get the hogs to show up, we kept our options open and went for a raccoon instead. This hefty guy gave us a beautiful pelt and a lot of meat 🦝 We never know what we'll learn out hunting, but we always know it will be an adventure worth experiencing.

Ep 029: Our Time in Tucson
As we prepared for our upcoming hunting trip, we noticed our fresh water tank was only holding about HALF of its full capacity!! Turns out, it's a pretty common problem with a few likely causes. As full-timers, it can be pretty inconvenient to try to have someone else fix our RV, so Tyler spent the day digging around under the RV, we found the problem (a kinked vent hose), and we replaced the hose entirely ourselves for about $30. It took us some time, but we're all ready to go for our next adventure 🚐🌲 Tune in to this episode to hear about a few of our RV struggles and our hectic lifestyle of jiu jitsu, duck hunting, cooking, and work all while wrapping up our wonderful stay in Tucson.

Episode 007: From East to West

Happy Florida month! We spent a month in Florida working like crazy, enjoying family, and diving into our own projects! It used to be challenging to try and squeeze all of that into one trip. We would fly out, stay with family, live out of a suitcase, and feel exhausted before we even settled in. Experiencing it with the RV is a completely different adventure! Getting to have your home with you to go home to every night makes every trip so much more enjoyable.
