Life has a way of showing us the path we need to take.
Sometimes you find that you’re experiencing frustration, tension, a feeling that nothing is working in your life. These are all signals that you need to listen to, signs that something isn’t quite right.
Have you noticed the moment you start to feel good about yourself, something happens in your mind that says “I don’t have enough time for this” or “I’m just not good enough” or “you should just stick with what you know”?
These limiting beliefs can stifle your progress and stop you from living the life you want.
What could I do? I’m not good at anything!
Does this sound familiar? Is this the soundtrack that’s been playing in your mind?
In celebration of International Women’s Day 2022, I am presenting a four part series of insight and reflection that will take you from feeling lost and lacking confidence in yourself, to having clarity on your strengths and a positive mindset.
Too often as women, and especially as mothers, we feel lost. We have lost our life. We have lost ourselves. We have forgotten what we like to do. We have forgotten what we can do. With this four part series I want to help women just like you. I want to help you to understand that you’re not alone. I want to help you to understand how you ended up here. I want to help you to rediscover yourself and get out of this rut. Because, and this is really important to understand, you can change your life, this doesn’t have to be permanent.
If you’re tired of being a Jack of all trades but a master of none, then today is the day that you can change that.
We are just 3 weeks away from International Women’s Day, and I know I’m jumping the gun a little, but I really wanted to share this special day with you in advance so you have the opportunity to join the movement.

For me, bringing in a new year feels like a clean slate, a chance to start fresh. I am not someone who sets New Year Resolutions, but I do spend time thinking about the year ahead.
We feel so torn. While we work really hard to meet new people and create new connections when moving abroad, we also work really hard to maintain the relationships we have back ‘home’.
So how do we maintain those ‘home’ relationships with family and friends?
What does living the life you want look like?
What are you doing? What are you experiencing? What are you learning? Who or what are you loving?
When I surveyed mums recently, it was overwhelming the number of people that have the same fear - not being able to support ageing family members and potentially not seeing them again.

We all face curve balls, we all experience challenges. What’s different between individuals is how they respond to those challenges.
It's helping hands week for the girls and they decided they wanted to help me with work.
After listening to part of an interview I did, they wanted to turn the camera on me.
It's funny what they were interested in, clearly some of it they picked up from the conversations I've been having. Some of it was purely their own interest.
Together we laughed, we cried, and we discussed some tough questions!
Helen Ellis is a New Zealand researcher, writer, anthropologist and a veteran of Distance Grandparenting. Three of her four children and five of her six grandchildren live 16 to 30 flight hours away in America, England and Scotland.
In her research she asked the question: “How is distance grandparenting for you?” As a Distance Grandparent of more than 20 years, she has well and truly got the T-shirt. Her book, Being a Distance Grandparent – a Book for ALL Generations, combines that experience with her extensive global research.
Helen feels passionately that Distance Parents and Distance Grandparents deserve a voice and has single-handedly and doggedly taken on that role. Her goal is to support each generation to understand how it is for the other.

One of the most challenging aspects of moving abroad is the lack of connection with your family. I think this is a key reason that we ‘adopt’ so many into our lives when we are living abroad.

I read a lot, for pleasure and for my business. I love reading, I always have. Book Clubs excite me, and I love connecting with others and sharing insights and takeaways from different books.

This is a special discussion with a friend, Kachy, who recently suffered the loss of her baby at 13 weeks.
In this discussion Kachy opens up about her experience, her loss and her grief. We are sharing Kachy's story because we hope that it will help others to know they are not alone, that miscarriage is common and people grieve in different ways.
Kachy also provides insights into how you can support a friend or family member who may experience miscarriage.

It’s my birthday tomorrow. I love celebrating my birthday, not only because it’s also our wedding anniversary, but I honestly love getting older.
So, you were hoping to take that trip back home or vacation in your favourite spot… but everything has changed.
There are no doubt many of you like me. I had hoped to take the girls to South Australia to see my parents, but with recent outbreaks in Australia we have decided it’s not a good idea. So what now? How do you plan for the upcoming school break?
Have you ever had that feeling, that something isn’t quite right in your world? That feeling in the pit of your stomach that something is a bit off balance. You’re just not sure what it is that’s not right.
Our mindset is so powerful, it can help us achieve great things, but it can also derail us. This week I am sharing my interview with Suzanne, a client who loves her full time job as a teacher, she loves her family, but was struggling with a negative mindset.
Suzanne's journey has been one of overcoming mum guilt, and the mindset challenges that life presents all of us. As a result of our work she is more positive in herself and focuses on what she can do, she has carved out time in her life for her own interests and passions, and as a result is showing up better for herself and her family.
In this episode I interview Rachael, a client who has achieved amazing things this year.
I am constantly impressed by the way she has shown up for herself and made some big changes in her life.
"I feel like the opportunities are endless, I know it's a cliche, but I haven't felt that way in such a long time... I could never see it before, I was frustrated and angry with my life and I couldn't see a way out... now my dreams have come alive again!" Rachael Ansar

I tried something new recently, and I want to share it because it may work for you too.
Feeling angry with your life? It's time to put a stop to that.
Anger is a natural human emotion. We feel anger when we see an injustice. We feel anger when horrible things happen. We feel anger when people hurt us or our family. It’s natural to feel anger, it is an emotion.
So why do we sometimes feel angry with our lives?
When we feel angry with our lives, it’s often a sign that we need to take action to put something right, but it’s important to do that in a meaningful way.
If you are feeling angry with your life, there are three simple strategies you can use to put your life right.
If you could do anything, what would you do?
I asked this question on social media recently, and it was interesting the responses I received. “Good question!” “This is what I always struggle with” “I wish I knew”
Whether you’re about to move for the first time or moving for the fifth time, there is one secret that can make your transition great.
Today I’m going to let you in on that secret, are you ready?
“We’re moving”
**These simple words can conjure up so much emotion.
For some there is sheer excitement, for others it is complete overwhelm, and for some it is a combination of both.
How can such simple words foster such a dramatic range of responses?
Discover more in this post.**
M**oving can be super challenging, but it can also be so rewarding.
Which is why today I want to share with you the 3 things that no one told you about moving abroad.**
We all make the decision to move abroad for different reasons - we want to experience new things; this is where the career opportunities are; we want to share the world with our children… The list of possible reasons is endless.
No matter your reason for considering a move, there are some key questions you should answer.
We are coming to that time of year where many families are about to move and face settling into a new city, new country, new schools and new homes.
There are times when it doesn’t all go smoothly.
So how do you know if your move is having an impact on your child?
We choose to move abroad for different reasons, some feel that they have to do it to further their own or their spouses career. Others make the deliberate choice to move because they can see opportunities for themselves and their families.
No matter why you are moving abroad, the process sparks a whole range of emotions. From being happy and excited about the new opportunities, to feeling sad and empty about what you’re leaving behind. Some days we feel like we have it all under control, then other days we just want to cry in the corner through sheer overwhelm. Whether adults or children, the emotional roller coaster is very real.
Let’s be honest, the emotional roller coaster is going to happen no matter what you do or how you plan. The good news is, there are steps you can take to reduce the range of roller coaster emotions.
Life as an expat mum can be so rewarding, but it can also be really, really challenging. We are the go-to person for everything family related, and it doesn’t end there. Trying to stay on top of it all can be exhausting, let alone sometimes really lonely too. So today I’m sharing my essential resources to ensure survival as an expat mum.
**I get asked this question occasionally. And more recently when working with a client, it became necessary that I share a little more about my career story.
When I did, she found huge value and power in my story. Not because we have similar career backgrounds, but because she realised that I too have been there. I too have had to ‘give up’ a lot and make changes and sometimes just do something not because it was my ideal, but to serve my need to add value.
She found power in my story because I get it, I know the hurdles but I also know how to overcome them.**
I’m not sure there is one answer to this question. I think the definition of coaching varies for different people. You only have to think of sporting teams and the role of the coach is unique often to the code of sport, and sometimes within a code it's unique to the team.
So today I’m answering this from my perspective, both as someone who has received great coaching, but also as someone who has impacted lives of other expat mums with coaching.
Let’s face it, life as an expat mum comes with a uniqueness that many of us take time to understand and adjust to.
Have you tried to change something in your life before, and it hasn’t worked?
Personal change is hard. Frankly, if it was easy then we wouldn’t be talking about it.
You know how it goes. You start your week feeling highly motivated, this is the week that you will exercise regularly and eat well, no more sugary treats! By Wednesday you’re feeling too tired to work out and you’re sneaking a little piece of chocolate.
Let’s face it, it’s hard to change our habits. Our mindset and self talk often sabotages our ability to work on our goals. Life gets busy, and personal change feels like it requires energy and headspace that you simply don’t have.
Guess what? There’s still time. It’s not too late and today I’ve got some simple strategies for you.
I so enjoyed this interview with Sarah Brown from Class Beauty where we discuss THE secret every busy mum needs to hear.
We talk about why it's normal to feel lost and alone, and what you can do right now to change this for yourself.

I might get a lot of flack for this but... I truly believe that you can be happy, but still dissatisfied with your life.
As busy mums, we get very reliant on our natural responses. We often don’t even think about what we are doing. Be it packing lunches, vacuuming, putting washing away. It all becomes second nature.
What’s scary is when the same thing happens with our self talk. We very quickly become reliant on our “normal” responses. We stop thinking about what we are saying to ourselves.
Have you ever had that niggling feeling that something isn’t quite right? That sinking feeling in the pit of your stomach that all is not well in your world?
You keep pushing it aside. You keep focused on your family and their needs. You keep ignoring “that” feeling.
Well my friend, I’m here to share that you are not doing yourself any favours.
It’s a new year, and always at this time of year, you feel renewed, re-energised and refocused, ready for what lies ahead. However, after 2020 and all the craziness, I think as we step into 2021 this is even more so.
We want better things for ourselves and for our family. We want more for ourselves and for our family.

OMG! As if life wasn’t already crazy enough, Miss J got in the car after school the other day and announced that her friend now has her own phone, followed very quickly with “when can I have one?”
This Christmas is feeling a little different for me, and I don’t doubt that it is for you too. While we keep hearing it, it is true… 2020 has been crazy.
Christmas is normally a time for us to connect as a family, give thanks for all that we have and share gifts with those that we love.
And yes, in some regard we will still have the opportunity to do that. Our family (pending no further outbreaks) will be heading down to the South Island of New Zealand for Christmas this year. We will be staying with the in-laws for 3 weeks, and I’m sure it will be wonderful. My sister in law just had her second baby, a wee boy, so there will be a lot to celebrate.
But what I really want to be doing is flying to South Australia to see my parents this Christmas. As many of you know, dear old dad was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer as we went into lock down. We made the decision at the time that the risk was too great that I would get there, and then not be able to get back to New Zealand. And although there are now flights to Australia, our borders remain closed. As an Australian I can legally vote, work, buy property and live here, but I can’t get back into New Zealand without special permission. So I still can’t go and see mum and dad, thankfully his treatment is working and it would seem we have time. But...
I get the pull on the heart strings that so many of you are experiencing this year. I get the frustration you feel that you can’t be with loved ones, especially when they are sick. I totally understand how difficult this is for your kids to wrap their heads around. I get it.
So I wanted to share my 12 Tips for Christmas in 2020
Natasha from Theatre4Kids and I met through social media, and quickly discovered we share many similar passions. Once we started chatting, we also discovered we have a lot of mutual friends too!
This short 20 minute episode is the result of Natasha’s amazing experience as a creative person, an educator, and a parent. Where we share similar values is in our focus to get creative with our kids, to ensure we collaborate around the home, and connect whenever the opportunity presents.
Whether your kids are toddlers, primary school age or teens, Natasha shares insights that can support you to better connect with them.
We are both super excited to share this with you, and we hope that you find some valuable tips inside. Don’t forget to get your FREE Printable to put on your fridge or wall at home, it’s a great reminder of what you can do every day.
As we highlight in this episode, it needs to be simple and easy, don’t overthink it or put pressure on yourself, but do take the time to connect with your kids, you will be so rewarded!
