Benjamin from the Fox Repellent Expert website shares tips, advice and information on urban foxes and how to humanely deter them, so you can protect your garden from their damage and destruction. Discover how foxes view your garden and understand what deterrent and repellent tools you can use to minimise their pooing, digging, chewing and all the other common fox problems. Benjamin has been running Fox Repellent Expert since 2010, when he first experienced the frustrations of urban foxes after moving to Croydon in South London, and discovered there was a lack of quality fox deterrent information online. The site has continually evolved and is on it's way to becoming the Number 1 resource for information on humane fox deterrence in the UK. If you are from Europe, North America or anywhere else in the world with a large fox population, you are also very welcome and will find much of the content useful. It's important to remember that foxes are not the enemy, nor do they do anything to deliberately spite you. They thrive in our towns and cities because our lifestyles provide them with the means to do so. That being said, they are often a nuisance and this podcast will equip you with the knowledge to reduce their negative impact, enabling you to live harmoniously with these fascinating creatures, while also taking back control of your garden. MAY - The fox cubs continue to grow rapidly and spend much more time outside the den, exploring their surroundings and engaging in playful behaviour. By now, the vixen has weaned them off her milk, and they are learning to rely on solid food. What does the vixen do to stop the cubs relying on her milk? The fourth of the series exploring what foxes are up to in each month of the year. A vulpine calendar of events, if you will.

APRIL - The fox cubs grow and develop quickly in their first month, which allows the vixen to finally leave them for short periods and venture out of the den. The cubs will also start making short trips out around the entrance to the den, but the vixen will be very protective as they're still very vulnerable. Why should you keep your pet cats and dogs away and why are the cubs described as 'month-old thugs'?

The third of the series exploring what foxes are up to in each month of the year. A vulpine calendar of events, if you will.

MARCH - During this month, the new generation of foxes will be born. The vixen will be almost exclusively in the fox den and will remain with the cubs for their first two weeks. The male foxes need to spring into action and provide all the food to the vixen as she will need to consume enough calories to ensure she produces enough milk. How many extra mice does the vixen need to consume during this time? What animal are newborn fox cubs often mistaken for?

FEBRUARY - With the mating season over, the vixen is now starting her 53-day pregnancy and will be busy finalising the location and preparation of her den before the cubs are born. The male foxes, on the other hand, will be taking the month off as they don't have much to do until March. What about the high-pitched screaming though? Does that increase or decrease this month?

11 - Holes in your garden and soil strewn everywhere, having a family of foxes set up home in your garden can be a messy affair. Our back gardens give foxes a multitude of options when it comes to establishing a den. Common areas include under sheds, decking, offices or summer houses and they're notoriously hard to evict once the vixen has decided where she was to raise her cubs. But foxes always have a Plan B and will know of another den they can run to if the main den is compromised. See what you can do to activate this flight response and get foxes to leave your garden. 10 - In a slightly different episode than normal, I'm celebrating National Poetry Day 2022 by reading the poem The Thought Fox by Ted Hughes. Looking briefly at Ted Hughes and his marriage to Sylvia Plath, as well as the story behind the poem. A work that links the intimate sighting of a wild fox with inspiration to shift writer's block, I thought looking at this poem, one of Ted Hughes' most famous, would be a great way of combining the world of foxes with a celebration of poetry.

9 - What is your definition of fox deterrent success and what do you hope to achieve by using a fox deterrent in your garden? For example, if you want to reduce the amount of holes a fox is digging in your flowerbeds, you're going to be happier quicker than if you want to never see a fox in your garden again. Managing your goals and understanding that it takes patience to deter an urban fox from your garden will set you up for success and stop you from being too disappointed if things take slightly longer to improve than you hoped! 8 - Many dog owners are concerned about foxes coming into their garden due to germs, risk of attack and agitation.
