Magnolia Crescent, Honey Hubcaps, Jack Diesel, Full Synthetic, and sometimes some other people answer relationship and car questions, tell the stories of their best and worst breakdowns, and try to understand the ways of the world. Full Synthetic, Magnolia Crescent, and Jack Diesel went on a mission to a machine shop in Amish country to see if they could get a replacement part made for an antique tractor Magnolia was working on. (After we recorded this, the person she was working for pulled the plug on the project, so the guys never machined the rocker shaft.) Then we snuck into a quarry to swim. Along the way, Magnolia explained some things she'd learned recently about how electricity works, Full Synthetic described an electrical diagnostic job she did on a Chevy Malibu, and we also talked about what feels electric in relationships. We drove Jack's new '95 Saturn S-series, which we call "Old Gold" in honor of Honey's younger gold Saturn.
We recorded this in the summer of 2020 but it took a long time to get it ready. There's a pandemic and all.

We made it to Tucson! Magnolia Crescent sold Critter to our friend Tonya Tuneup and bought a '95 Geo Metro. In this episode, Tonya and Magnolia told stories about their first cars, including a story of Tonya's in which she did something VERY DANGEROUS, and wondered about what kind of routine maintenance keeps a relationship good. Tonya drove the Metro. Spark Plugs was in the back but he didn't say much.
Magnolia and Tonya spent part of the episode talking about veggie oil; any diesel engine will burn vegetable oil as long as the oil is kept hot. Most conversions to make diesels run on veggie oil involve adding a heated fuel tank for the oil and a way to switch back and forth between running on veggie oil and diesel fuel. Magnolia built a veggie oil system in Critter, which never really worked, although after we recorded this episode Tonya realized the veggie tank was full of sludge so maybe that was the problem. Join Magnolia, Spark Plugs, and Jack on their journey from Ohio to Arizona to sell Magnolia's car. We wondered when the right time is to tell someone you have a crush on them, or if you even should. We talked a lot about anxiety, and then we laid out our feelings about International Tell Your Crush Day. Spark Plugs said something nice about Magnolia, who didn't know how to respond. Jack drove. We had to fake the karaoke section by playing a song off a phone, because Critter doesn't have a radio.
We spent a whole section talking about someone Magnolia knows who we thought said you should NEVER tell someone you have a crush on them. Some time later, Magnolia ran into that person again and asked about it and it turned out they didn't say that at all. Maybe some day we'll have them on the show to set the record straight.
This episode was hardly automotive-themed, but we made up for it in the next one.

Honey's partner Spark Plugs drove us around Pittsburgh. Thanks Spark Plugs! We talked about our dream cars, our dream dates, and what a perfect world would look like. We also engaged in a detailed description of a picnic and Honey described her firsthand experience with Soviet transmission failure.
