Today’s topic is money, money, money! Are you saving money? Are you investing money? I personally know the slow drip of income and the outpouring of expenses that cause self-doubt to kick in when we want to do the things we enjoy. It’s why I invited financial advisor Pamela Sams to discuss how we can finance a freedom lifestyle.

For 16 years, Pamela has been helping women improve their personal and financial wealth through solid financial life planning. She’s an advocate for financial literacy and the president of the Fairfax County Chapter of the International Association of Professional Women.

Yes, some say money is the root of all evil but the truth is the love of money is the root of all evil because it drains you of the discipline to be a good financial steward over your funds. Learning to manage your flow of cash will help you enjoy a better future. No one wants to work until their ninety years old. Invest some now to live a life you’ll love later!

Serena Williams recently sat down with People Magazine for a tell all interview about her experience with Post-partum after the birth of her daughter. It got me to thinking… Maternal Mental Health is not something we talk about much. We view the event of having a baby, a joyous event. But for many women, it is not. The process of having a baby can have a stressful effect on her life. So I sat down with my friend, Kristen Brooks for the details.

Kristen Brooks is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Owner of Building Beyond Therapy LLC. She earned an MSW from the University of Maryland Baltimore and is clinically licensed in Maryland and the District of Columbia. For half a decade she’s provided social work services in many capacities, including child welfare, inpatient psychiatric services and schools but more importantly, she‘s certified in Maternal Mental Health through Postpartum Support International (PSI) and is a Board Certified Supervisor with the Board of Social Work Examiners in Maryland.

A serious illness is nothing you should ever go through alone. If the people around you don’t understand or if they are not supportive, reach out to other circles of encouragement that have been through the same thing and always remember there is a therapist in your area that you can connect with to help you progress through your issues.

Audience Takeover is how I will describe this episode. It was my second time recording with a live in-studio audience and once I opened the microphone for questions and comments the conversation went left. It was CRAZY, in a cool kind of way! LOL! It proved one thing to be absolutely true, everyone is affected by a couple's decision to divorce. Don’t miss this monumental episode of That Anita Live.

Debbie Dechambeau is not only a divorcee herself, but she is also the product of divorce. From all of her parents and stepparents she has nine (yes, 9!) siblings. Her story will amaze you. During our conversation she shared how, everyone (not just the bride and groom) should brace for divorce.

Why? Because divorce takes a serious toll on the entire circle, not just the couple. Everyone from the grandparents to the aunts and uncles to little league coaches and dance instructors – everyone. If ever you’re impacted by divorce, consider how you will continue to interact with in-laws, church members or neighbors, all the people that knew you as a couple before the divorce and remember self-care is key to staying emotionally fit on your journey to emotional healing.Enjoy the interview!

We were taught to hold onto many of the things that enable us. The biggest enabler many people have is there j-o-b. Yes! You’re job. Why? It’s because one disastrous chapter should not end your entire story. Like Kirstin, I to have experience the sudden reality of a job loss and know that it is often the nudge or directions we need to follow our dreams or fulfill our passions. Sometimes in the midst of the storm all we need is a quiet space to see or hear what to do next.

How many bad relationships have you had? Watching the demise of Mary J. Blige and Kendu reminds me of Tom Cruz and Katie Holmes, all I can wonder is how do we miss the signs? The good news is we can all heal, but if the monster we described was the person we actually met, domestic violence would be easy to eradicate from the earth. That’s how T. Renee Garner, Stage Play Producer describers her ex – as a Man Monster. Why, you ask? No, he wasn’t physically abusive but he was psychologically abusive. She realized she had been abandoned by her intimate partner after waking up from a coma in the hospital.

Today, her personality is bubbling as ever. In our interview she comically tells the story of going into labor prematurely, waking up from a coma and moving on with life. Trust us, happy is waiting but you have to work through your emotional baggage to get to it.

Take a good look at your situation. An abuser doesn’t have to be an intimate partner. It can be anybody, even a parent, neighbor or supervisor. If you are being emotionally, mentally or physically abused or even it happened some time ago, abuse can manifest in fear, low self-esteem or even suicidal thoughts - call the National Domestic Violence Hotline – Help is available to you. Listen, I know sometimes we don’t want to be fixed, we just want to be heard - Dial 1-800.799.SAFE (7233) and start your journey to emotional healing today.

It’s an epidemic and you are the answer to making it better. The number of suicides, especially among children and teens increases every year, but no one seems to know why. From Florida to Ohio to our nation’s capital, children as young as eight and adults as old as eighty are committing suicide and I feel, it is time we move this from being a private household problem to a community effort of prevention. So, I reached out to my fellow mental health clinician, an Associate Professor in the Psychiatry Department at Georgetown University Medical Center. Dr. Alfiee (as she is affectionately called by many) is a recognized expert in adolescent depression. She currently leads multiple research teams including being the Project Director of the AAKOMA project. The African American Knowledge Optimized for Mindfully-Healthy Adolescents. In this interview we discuss the various stages of life, associated pressures and what we the community can do to end suicide. Listen, if the pressure in your life is becoming overwhelming, reach out for help. We have all been through difficult times and had to learn how to manage. It’s ok, that you’re going through it, we want to help you live through it. Whether it’s fear, anxiety, low self-esteem or even suicidal thoughts – please call the National Suicide Prevention Hotline at 1-800-273-8255.

Who do you trust? Who is your ride or die?

It is often said, the best things in life are free and one of those things is friendship. Someone to stand with and lean on in difficult times. In recent times, traditional sister circles have fallen to the demise of gossip and immaturity. How many times have you been in a circle of friends you though you could trust only to be disappointed by betrayal later on? It happens. But my guest this week says those circles of bond are still valid, important and available. Cynthia Peterson discusses the importance of having a sister circle and offers her organization God Loving Obeying Women (G.L.O.W) as a place to find motivation, encouragement and connection.

Dr. Deb is proof, nothing is impossible. She is currently a very proud, giving and adored teacher at Loudoun School for the Gifted. If there is something noble you’d like to do, a passion you have or a dream you’d like to realize. There has been no better time in history, to get up and do something about it. This week we’re talking – Self-Esteem! What do you do when you’re self esteem tanks?

We all know that our worth and self-value starts in childhood and that, as adults, we behave according to what we believe and how we feel about ourselves. Take your self-esteem and identify seriously. Identify a way to work on strengthening your self-esteem every day. Need an idea, keep reading……

My guest is one mother that took matters into her own hands. When her daughter began to question her worth and her identity, Mom got busy! Múkami Kinoti Kimotho’s designed and produced a line of 13 dolls to impact the lives of children worldwide. But to her surprise, many adult women started purchasing the dolls for themselves. They stated, the dolls symbolized pride, motivated them and touched them deeper than affirmations. So now, along with affirmations on the refrigerator, they now have an Avatar on their desk. Encouraging them to stay the course and follow their plans to design a life around the things they like to do versus the things they must do.

To find out more about the dolls, visit Royelles.com or find them at Facebook.com/royellesdolls.

What affirmation or symbol do you have to lift your spirits when you're feeling low?
