Pastor Micah shared a message entitled "Hide & Seek" this week to help remind each of us why the Bible is so important to us today! He pulled out a few key words from 2 Timothy 3:16-17; profitable, complete, and equipped that help us understand the importance of God's Word! Only through spending time in God's Word can we truly grow into the man or woman of God that He is calling us to be. Spending time in His Word and allowing the Holy Spirit to work in our lives is how we become most fully equipped in our lives so that we can do every God work that God has for us to do!

Pastor Micah shared four things the sufficient Word of God is used for to make us complete believers and equip us in every good work:

  1. Teaching
  2. Rebuking
  3. Correcting
  4. Training

Check out this original game of "Hide & Seek" as King David shares his heart in Psalm 119:10-11. “I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands. I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you” (NIV).

Bottom Line: King David was continually seeking God with his whole heart, and the way he was doing that was by hiding (or storing) God's Word in His heart. That is Pastor Micah's prayer for each and every person.

Pastor Micah shared a message this week titled "The Meaning Of Pentecost!" The Day of Pentecost is a historic event that took place as God poured the Holy Spirit upon the Early Church to empower, equip, and enable us to reach the world for Christ! Pastor Micah approached this message with a 30,000 foot view looking at the connection between the Passover and Pentecost Festivals. We know that the Holy Spirit has been actively involved since the Creation story back in Genesis chapter 1. The Prophet Joel prophesied about the Holy Spirit coming hundreds of years before the day of Pentecost occurred. The initial out pouring of the Holy Spirit was marked by 3 symbolic phenomena:

  1. The sound of violent rushing wind!
  2. Tongues of fire resting on each head!
  3. Witness to the nations for His glory!

Bottom Line: God’s purpose at Pentecost was to equip His church with the power of the Holy Spirit so that we would be His witnesses to all the nations, resulting in His eternal glory. (Habakkuk 2:14)

Pastor Micah finished up our current series this past Sunday called "Taking the NEXT Step!" Throughout this series we are focusing on the topic of stewardship and looking specifically at the Biblical principles of tithing, offerings, and trusting the Lord with everything He has placed in your hands!

In the first week of the series we looked at the Biblical principle laid out for tithing. The second week Pastor Micah shared a tool called the ‘giving ladder’ that helps each of us to see where we’re at when it comes to giving in our lives. In the 3rd and final week Pastor Micah challenged you to seek the Lord and see what He would have you to do for the rest of 2024 in regards to your giving. He shared a tool call a P.L.O.W. card:

  • P-Pray: Ask the Lord that He would help you know what it is He’s asking you to give at this time.
  • L-Listen: To hear an answer.
  • O-Obey: Obey and follow through with the answer the Lord gives you.
  • W-Wow: Watch and be amazed at what will take place when you pray, listen, and obey God’s leading in your life.

If you’re currently giving at a level that you know you could do without God then I’m going to challenge your thinking, and say that I don’t think you’re actually hearing what God wants you to do. When we obey God’s leading in our lives it’s the key that unlocks the wow factor in our lives.

Bottom Line: This series may be hard for some people to hear, but throughout this series we hope you will be open to taking the next step in the area of stewardship with tithes and offerings.

We celebrated all of the great moms, grandmothers, step mothers, foster moms, and mother figures God has blessed our great church and community with! Pastor Micah shared a message called "A Mother's Heart" which focused on how mothers experience the greatest of joys, but likewise experience the deepest of pains. By looking at 3 lesser known moms from scripture we walked away with 3 questions:

  1. Jochebed (Exodus 2): Where do you need to surrender control to God?
  2. Zarephath (1 Kings 17): Where do you need to trust God’s promises and step out in obedience even in the midst of doubt?
  3. Bathsheba (2 Samuel 11-12): Are you living a story in need of redemption? In what part of life do you need to live in the hope that God is redeeming your story?

For each of us we must cling to the promise we find in 2 Corinthians 12:9, “But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me”

Bottom Line: So wherever you find yourself today—needing to surrender control, wanting to step deeper into trust and obedience, or hoping that God can redeem your story—let’s allow our lives to reflect the true heart of a mother: filled with great joy and deep pain, but covered in His grace, which is always enough.

Pastor Micah picked back up our current series this past Sunday called "Taking the NEXT Step!" Throughout this series we are focusing on the topic of stewardship and looking specifically at the Biblical principles of tithing, offerings, and trusting the Lord with everything He has placed in your hands!

In the first week of the series we looked at the Biblical principle laid out for tithing. This week Pastor Micah shared a tool called the ‘giving ladder’ that helps each of us to see where we’re at when it comes to giving in our lives. The third part of the series I’m going to challenge you to seek the Lord and see what He would have you to do for the rest of 2024 in regards to your giving. Here is a recap of the 5 steps of the giving ladder discussed this past week:

  1. A POTENTIALGiver (Anyone with any form of income)
  2. An EMERGING Giver (Someone who gives occasionally, and without any particular rhyme or reason)
  3. A CONSISTENT Giver (Someone who gives at a regular basis at a consistent level)
  4. A TITHE Giver (Someone who gives 10% of their income to the local church)
  5. An EXTRAVAGANT Giver (This is someone who gives above 10% of their income to the local church)

Bottom Line: This series may be hard for some people to hear, but throughout this series we hope you will be open to taking the next step in the area of stewardship with tithes and offerings.

Pastor Laura shared a message this week called "A New Thing" focusing on how after Jesus went back up to Heaven he commanded the Apostles to go to Jerusalem and wait for the Holy Spirit to come. In Acts chapters 1-3 we read about how even though God was doing a new thing it's not always easy as wait for the new thing to take place.

Here are 3 things we can learn from the Apostles as they waited on the new thing to take place:

  1. The Story Ended (or sho they thought)
  2. They Began To Prepare
  3. The Spirit Came

There are also 3 key questions we need to ask ourselves when waiting for God to do a new thing. These come from the story of the lame man being healed in Acts 3:

  1. Where Are You Sitting?
  2. Where Are You Looking?
  3. What Are You Expecting?

Bottom Line: The end of something is often an amazing opportunity for something new to come. Good things can happen even when you’ve been stuck for a long time.

Pastor Bethani shared a message titled "Please Pass The Faith" which focused on the importance of passing on our faith to the next generation. In particular as Pastors Bethani and Sarah wrote this message it was focused on passing down the faith to Generations Z and Alpha (those born since 1996). Here are a few highlights for you:

  • Passing on the faith to the next generation is the responsibility of the entire church.
  • Passing on the faith means we talk about what God has done in our lives with those who are younger than us. In other words: commend, declare, and sing the greatness of God! (Psalm 145:4, 6-7)
  • God has equipped us as a church to pass the faith to others. Each of us has a role to play. What is your role?

Pastor Bethani challenged each person to take time and intentionally pray this week about what their role could be here at Chisholm AG to help pass the faith along to the next generation!

Pastor Bethani shared a message titled "Promise In The Valley" which focuses on Genesis 15 and relates it to the mountain highs and valley lows we experience in life. The point is that every mountain is followed by a valley but we always have a mountain of a promise in Jesus. This message offers hope to everyone in their low times in life and helps those in the high times of their lives that the lows will come but the promise we have in Jesus remains the same.

Bottom Line: Jesus' valley low was our mountain high. When we walk through the valley, we need to cling to the promise we have in Jesus!

Pastor Micah wrapped up our 2024 Easter series this year, "Empty." As Easter has been approaching we've focused on how through an empty tomb we find the ultimate fulfillment in our lives through Christ! This series unpacks the idea of emptiness by following people connected to the death of Jesus and showing that only at the empty tomb will we be made full.

As we celebrated Easter this week we looked at the story of Mary and her experience at the tomb following Jesus' resurrection. Mary had come to the tomb feeling empty and seeking a full tomb. She left finding an empty tomb and being made full! After Jesus appeared to her, she ran back to tell the other disciples that Jesus defeated death and that she had seen their Lord!

God has gone to great lengths to be with you and to fill your emptiness. He provided a solution for all of the sins that leave you feeling empty through the sacrifice of His son Jesus on the cross and His resurrection from the dead. He provides you a full life now here on Earth and an eternal life after death! Why? Because God loves you!

Bottom Line: Jesus’ death and resurrection repairs us and now the Holy Spirit fills us. We no longer have to experience emptiness because the presence of God is IN us. We are made full!

Pastor Micah continued our 2024 Easter series this year, "Empty." As Easter approaches we're focusing on how through an empty tomb we find the ultimate fulfillment in our lives through Christ! This series unpacks the idea of emptiness by following people connected to the death of Jesus and showing that only at the empty tomb will we be made full.

This week we looked at the story involving Pilate and the crowd as Jesus is put on trial. Pilate mentions multiple times that Jesus is innocent and he wants nothing to do with Jesus. Ultimately, he allows the crowd to sway his decision making even though he knows it's not the right choice to make. Know that if you are looking to the crowd to find approval, you’re looking in the wrong place. Because only Jesus and a relationship with Him can truly bring fulfillment to your life.

Bottom Line: Do I feel full or empty? Am I satisfied in life? Or am I searching for more? Then ask: What am I trying to find fulfillment with? Am I seeking Jesus or am I chasing something else? Everything else will only lead you to emptiness and ultimately death. It is only in Jesus and at His empty tomb that we truly find life.

This series unpacks the idea of emptiness by following people connected to the death of Jesus and showing that only at the empty tomb will we be made full.

This week we looked at two different examples of people trying to find fulfillmentin different ways. First, we see the Pharisees tried to find fulfillment through the Law and perfecting their behavior. Second, we looked at how Judas tried to find fulfillment through the love of money aka greed.

Bottom Line: Do I feel full or empty? Am I satisfied in life? Or am I searching for more? Then ask: What am I trying to find fulfillment with? Am I seeking Jesus or am I chasing something else? Pastor Micah wrapped our series this week called "I'll Be There For You!" This series focuses on the topic of friendship. Each week will will look at a different friendship from scripture along with a specific important characteristic of friendship. In scripture we see many examples of Godly friendship and how important it is to our walk with the Lord.

This week we looked at the relationship between King David and one his closest friends, adviser, and prophet, Nathan. The characteristic of friendship we focused on this week is correction. Correction is not a fun thing to do and can be very awkward and challenging, but it's necessary within any good friendship! After David has an affair with Bathsheba that result in a child he made the decision to put Uriah, Bathsheba's husband, on the front of the battle lines resulting in his death. God revealed this to Nathan and he had a difficult decision to make. Do I stay quiet and not risk my friendship with King David or do I risk my own life and confront his sin like God is asking me to? Ultimately, out of love for his friend Nathan confronted King David and had the difficult conversations. King David didn't receive it well initially, but then his attitude changed. He repented of his sin, asked for forgiveness, and began to worship God. There were still consequences as a result of David's sin, one being the loss of the child born due to the affair. You can read the complete story in 2 Samuel chapter 12. There are 3 key takeaways we can learn from Nathan and King David's friendship when it comes to our lives today:

  1. Pray to God about these situations! (Never approach a conversation with someone in your own ability)
  2. Have hard conversations out of love! (Love is the only acceptable motivation)
  3. Make sure there is trust within your friendship! (The foundation of trust must exist in a friendship to have the hard challenging conversations)

Bottom Line: Correction and confrontation from a friend are good for us. A true friend wants you to experience the best of life and bring God's best out of you. If someone is allowing you to destroy yourself then they are not your friend. They are your enemy. Even though correction and confrontation might hurt, it is beneficial to our walk with Christ.

Pastor Brad shared a message this week called "Vessels" which focused on how we're all called to be God's vessels to the world around us. His main passage of scripture was from 1 Corinthians 12:27. In order to be effective vessels there are 4 main points that he pointed out in this message:

  1. Effective vessels are WILLING to be used!
  2. Effective vessels know the Father's Voice (Shepherd's) to HEAR how to be used!
  3. Effective vessels are intentionally POURING out onto others!
  4. Effective vessels accept the fact that they are BROKEN!

Bottom Line: Some of us have been waiting to become more perfect, but the answer the whole time has been to 'boast in your weakness' as the Apostle Paul says living your life with an open heart and an open hand.

Pastor Sarah Tillotson shared a message this week called "Adoption: Forever Home" focusing on the Biblical concept of adoption into the family of God, and how that relates to adoption in our world today! By looking at Paul's letter in Galatians 4:1-7 we pull out these 6 truths:

  1. We are Redeemed!
  2. We are Adopted!
  3. The Holy Spirit now lives within us!
  4. We call God Father!
  5. We are now God's Children!
  6. We are the Heirs of God!

Bottom Line: God intentionally chooses to adopt us and is always longing to add more children to His family! He says, "Welcome, my child. This is your home forever!"

Pastor Micah continued our series this week called "I'll Be There For You!" This series focuses on the topic of friendship. Each week will will look at a different friendship from scripture along with a specific important characteristic of friendship. In scripture we see many examples of Godly friendship and how important it is to our walk with the Lord.

This week we look at the friendship between Ruth and Naomi and the characteristics of loyalty and care in friendship. Naomi lost her husband and both of her daughters-in-law, Ruth and Orpah, lost their husbands. So in the face of tragedy each of these ladies had to make a decision on what they would do moving forward. Naomi encouraged both ladies to go back to their homeland and look for a new husband. Orpah chose to go back home and look for a new husband. Ruth decided to remain loyal to Naomi and take care of her even if it wasn't in her best interest to do so. Looking at their friendship there are 3 key takeaways I want you to consider when it comes to the characteristics of loyalty and care in friendship:

  1. True Friendship is Strengthened in Hard Times when we are Faithful!
  2. True Friendship Requires Action and not just Feelings!
  3. Even in Adversity, True Friends are Loyal!

Bottom Line: Friendship is made stronger through faithfulness together.

This week we look at the friendship between Jonathan and David and the characteristic of trust in friendship. Jonathan, the son of King Saul, ended up in a very difficult spot when he had to choose between his father and his best friend David whom he had made a covenant with. Looking at their friendship there are 3 key takeaways I want you to consider when it comes to the role of trust in friendship:

  1. True friendship is built on trust!
  2. True friendship is putting yourself third!
  3. True friendship is being present for your friend!

Bottom Line: Our friends matter so choose your friends wisely. They make a greater impact on your life then you may think!

Pastor Micah shared a message entitled "The Potter" for our 2024 Vision Sunday! God uses the language of creation to describe His ongoing interest in our lives throughout all of scripture. By focusing on Isaiah 64:8 and Jeremiah 18:2-6 we learn that God is the sovereign creator and He molds us in the palm os His hand. Here are a few keypoints and questions for us to takeaway from this week's message:

  • You are created in the image of God!
  • Are you allowing the Artist to work?
  • You are God's masterpiece!
  • Your failure is God's opportunity!
  • What will you do?

Bottom Line: God is in control, He is sovereign over all things including our lives, families, and this church. He is the potter and we’re the clay.

Pastor Micah shared a message this week called "I Want To See!" to help set the stage for next week's Vision Sunday! By looking at the interaction between the blind man Bartimaeus and Jesus in Mark 10 we can learn 4 key things:

  1. Cry Out (He had nothing left to lose. He was not going to be timid.)
  2. Press In (He refused to be deterred by distractions, discouragement, or doubt.)
  3. Toss Aside Your Cloak (He believed that Jesus was going to heal him before it happened.)
  4. Say It (He had the faith to be real and vulnerable with Jesus.)

Bottom Line: I believe that if you cry out, press in, and toss your cloak and say it… that He will give you the vision to see what He has planned for you.

Pastor Laura took time this week to focus on worship in her message, "The Power of Worship!" As we continue going through our 21 days of corporate prayer & fasting we're also placing an emphasis on the act of daily worship. Living our lives in a way that as the Apostle Paul says, a "living sacrifice." Pastor Laura defined what worship is according to scripture, and presented and answered the following 2 questions:

  1. So if we're going to worship someone/something, why should it be God? (Psalm 95:1-11; Acts 17:24-28
  2. Do you worship God in a way that draws others to worship God as well?

Bottom Line: In Psalm 40:3 we see David mention 2 profound elements of worship: Celebration (vertical expression) and Proclamation (horizontal expression).

Pastor Micah set the stage for our upcoming 21 days of corporate prayer and fasting by sharing a message entitled "Why Do We Fast?" In this message Pastor Micah looked at 8 different stories from scripture that helped us realize 9 different reasons why we fast. This is by no means an exhaustive list of why we fast, but gives a very clear introduction to why we fast. Pastor Micah also shared various different forms of fasting that are found throughout the Bible. We're excited to see what God does in our hearts and through our lives over these 21 days as we set time aside as a church to pray and fast!

Bottom Line: It’s important to remember that fasting is not some magical formula or arm twisting that we do to get something that we want from God. God is most interested in our heart posture and our relationship with Him. He wants our fasting to be a reflection of our desire to draw near to Him. To seek His heart and hear His voice is the goal.

Pastor Brad shared a New Year's themed message called "Tear Off The Roof!" By looking at a couple individuals from the New Testament who were healed by Jesus we focus on their faith, boldness, and desperation! In Luke chapter 5 we see the story of the friends bringing their paralyzed friend to Jesus and him being healed due to their faith. Secondly, in Luke chapter 8 we read the story of the woman being healed who dealt with the blood disorder.

Here are the 2 questions for you to consider from this week's message:

  1. What would it look like to tear off the roof for someone else today? (Sometimes it takes the boldness of OTHERS to see God move through your life.)
  2. Are you willing to tear off the roof to experience more of Jesus? (Sometimes it’s up to OURSELVES to add extra BOLDNESS in our faith to see God work. Strip away the pride.)

Bottom Line: God rewards those that are DESPERATE for Him!

Pastor Micah finished our Christmas series this week called "With Love!" The overarching theme of this series aims to answer the question, why do we have Christmas? The most simple answer is, LOVE! Out of God's love for us He made a way for us to be reconciled back to Him! He sent His One and only Son Jesus to become the final atoning sacrifice to bridge the gap that sin had created between God and mankind.

This week we focused on how we can go tell others about God's love. By looking at the story of the shepherds we see how they received the news from the angels, responded by going to see Jesus, and then going and telling everyone about the newborn Messiah, Jesus Christ. They were so filled with joy they could help, but go tell everyone about Jesus.

Sometimes we can lose joy in our lives, but here are 4 practical ways we can restore the joy of the Lord in our lives:

  1. Think about how things have changed!
  2. Journal
    • Times when God showed up in unexpected ways.
    • Times God gave me what I needed by doing what I didn’t want.
    • Prayers God has answered.
  3. Realize your purpose in Him!
  4. Commit to pressing on no matter what!

Pastor Micah shared a message called "Be The Light" as a part of our annual Family Christmas service at CAG. In this message he talked about how Jesus came to be the 'light of the world.' In the Sermon on the Mount Jesus teaches that it is now our job to take the light of the world (the Gospel Message, the love of Christ) and share it with the world around us. (Matthew 5:16) What an incredible honor we have to reflect Christ to the world around us, but also what a responsibility! May we always strive to shine the Light of Jesus everywhere we go!

Bottom Line: Jesus is the light, we're the prism, and when we align ourselves properly with God it creates a beautiful, vibrant display of God's love to everyone around us!

He sent His One and only Son Jesus to become the final atoning sacrifice to bridge the gap that sin had created between God and mankind.

This week we focused on how we can give love back to God. We look at the story of the 3 Wise Men and the gifts they brought to the newborn King, Jesus Christ: gold, frankincense, and myrrh. These three gifts represent a financial (gold), religious (frankincense), and a prophetic (myrrh) gifts. Practically speaking we looked at this framework of how we can show God our love in each of these three avenues!

Bottom Line: When we understand what God has given us with love, we should want to give back to Him with love.

Pastor Micah shared a timely message this week that the Holy Spirit laid on his heart called "Be Brave!" In particular the theme of the message is being brave in the midst of the unknown in our lives. It could be something unknown physically like an illness, something unknown spiritually like trying to discern God's direction for your life, or something unknown mentally where you're struggling with anxiety/depression, etc. By looking at Judge Deborah's story in Judges chapter 4 we find 3 key points:

  1. Fear can hold us back from being brave!
  2. When God calls you to be brave, He will be there to support you!
  3. God equips us all to be brave!

Bottom Line: To be brave, we have to let faith empower us to rise above our fears!

Pastor Bethani shared a message this week called "Lukewarm Christianity!" By looking at the teaching from Revelation 3:14-22 we find a word for the church in Laodicea. They were challenged for their 'lukewarm' faith, and that same challenge still stands for us today. Are we living life fully committed to the Lord, or are we still trying to stand on two ladders (one being the world and the other being God)? Are you in or are you out? Here is one highlight from the message, "to experience the fullness of God, you have to give Him access to all of you!"

Bottom Line: If you're not all in with God, you're all out of Heaven.

Pastor Laura shared a message entitled "THANKful Truly" as she looked at Leviticus 7:11-13. In this Old Testament passage we learn a lot about the attitude of thankfulness. She shared about how thanksgiving is a key ingredient to having peace with God! Here are a few highlights from this week's message:

  1. We must be thankful for ALL things!
  2. But what about the DIFFICULT things in our lives? (Why on Earth would we be thankful for the DIFFICULT things in our lives?)
  3. We are to be thankful because Christ SUFFERED. Christ went through HARD times. He was TORTURED...for YOU & for ME!

Bottom Line: Are you thankful just for the GOOD things? Are you also thankful for the DIFFICULT things? (True thanksgiving is being able to answer, “YES” to both of those questions.)

Pastor Micah shared a message this week titled "Open Your Eyes!" By looking at the Apostle Paul's letter to the church in Ephesus we find 3 prayer points! Just as Paul prayed this over the church nearly 2,000 years ago. We continue to pray this over our church, community, and world! We pray that you may:

  1. Know Christ more!
  2. Receive more wisdom, insight, and understanding concerning God's present and future purposes!
  3. Experience greater power of the Holy Spirit in your life!

Bottom Line: “When we get our eyes off of ourselves and choose to trust God, we begin to see miracles in the midst of the mundane. We see lives changed. We see God glorified and His church thriving.”

They shared about their call to missions, where they're going in Central Mexico, and what kind of ministry they will be doing (church planting).

They also shared a message called "Jesus Feeds 5,000." This miracle has become legendary to many of us, but we want to encourage you to consider what's happening on the periphery of this miracle, and in particular the young boy who offered up his 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish to Jesus. When the crowd followed Jesus and His disciples as they tried to get away to rest and share about what they had experienced that day, Jesus welcomed them, taught them, and healed those who needed to be healed.

Bottom Line: At the table of Jesus, all are welcome!

Pastor Micah shared a message for Back to Church Sunday called "Rooted In Faith" By looking at the teachings of Jesus and the Apostle Paul we get a clear understanding of the importance of having deep roots spiritually. Life will throw challenges our way so we must be able to stay connected to Christ and stand firm in our faith! A life built on Jesus overflows with purpose and meaning. The Bible compares this kind of connection to a vine with many branches. Here are the 3 main points from this week's message:

  1. Faith in Jesus grows deep roots!
  2. Roots of Faith grow in Fellowship (Community)
  3. Jesus is the Vine. We are the Branches.

Bottom Line: Historically, God has used people who are deeply rooted in their faith to make a difference in the world.

Kevin & Jennie Senapatiratne of Christ Connection came and shared a great message with us this week at Chisholm AG! By looking at the prayer of King Jehoshaphat in 2 Chronicles chapter 20 they pulled out 4 key reminders when it comes to prayer.

  1. His prayer started by turning his FOCUS to God
  2. He appealed to the POWER of God
  3. He appealed to the PROMISES of God
  4. He appealed to the WORD of God

Bottom Line: All 4 of these reminders tie back to the concept of keeping our eyes fixed on God!

Pastor Micah shared a message called "The Greatest Commandment" this week focused on Jesus answering the question, 'of all of the commandments, which is the most important?' in Mark chapter 12. Jesus answers the question by quoting 2 old testament commandments from Deuteronomy 6:4-5 and Leviticus 19:18.

Jesus says that loving God with all the we have and loving our neighbor our both equally important! Dr. Kim Huat Tan wrote in her commentary on the Gospel of Mark that "love for God is actualized in love for neighbor!"

Jesus went on to share two stories later in the chapter about what it means to put yourself first and what it means to love God with everything you have. The religious leaders didn't love God. They loved what being associated with God got them. Whereas the old widow who gave her two coins "gave her whole life" where you look at the original greek translations.

Bottom Line: Loving God is giving God your whole life!

Pastor Micah finished up our current series this week called Wisdom: A Study in Proverbs! While King Solomon was not perfect (he didn’t even always take his own advice!) he did record an incredible collection of wisdom in the book of Proverbs. This wisdom is timeless; it was relevant thousands of years ago and it is relevant today. The specifics may have changed, but the principles in Proverbs are still solid and sound advice for you and me! This week we focused on what King Solomon taught about how to avoid temptation by looking at a parable he tells in Proverbs 7:7-27.

Here are 2 important observations I wanted to highlight in regards to the book of Proverbs:

  1. Proverbs contains general principles about how life should work.
  2. Proverbs contains examples of foolish vs. wise behavior. (Not necessarily focusing on the morality of right vs wrong)

Solomon has a lot to say not just about saying no to temptation, but learning how to avoid temptation. Here are a few key takeaways from this week's message on avoiding temptation:

  1. An early no is easier than a later no!
  2. A difficult no is better than a difficult consequence!
  3. Integrity beats regret every time!

Bottom Line: If you know where temptation lives, don’t walk by her house!

Pastor Laura continued our current series this week called Wisdom: A Study in Proverbs! This week we focused on what it looks like to be a good friend!

Here are 2 important observations I wanted to highlight in regards to the book of Proverbs:

  1. Proverbs contains general principles about how life should work.
  2. Proverbs contains examples of foolish vs. wise behavior. (Not necessarily focusing on the morality of right vs wrong)

Solomon has a lot to say about our friendship, and here are 5 key characteristics of being a good friend:

  1. Good friends are good listeners!
  2. Good friends value honesty!
  3. Good friends value loyalty!
  4. Good friends don't stir up trouble!
  5. A good friend is kind even to their enemies!

Bottom Line: We should be the kind of friend we want to have.

  1. Wise people know when to save and when to spend!
  2. Wise people earn their money honestly!
  3. Wise people work hard for their money!
  4. Wise people properly prioritize wealth!

Bottom Line: God cares how we spend, pursue, and prioritize wealth.

Four our 5th Sunday family service Pastor Micah and Kid's Ministry Director Sarah shared on the topic of self-control. Our min passage for the morning comes from Titus 2:11-12 which focuses on the importance of living a life marked by self-control. Self-control is choosing actions and attitudes that please God, not ourselves. The Holy Spirit helps us to develop self-control in 3 different ways:

  1. Our Thoughts
  2. Our Actions
  3. Our Words

Bottom Line: Most simply put, self-control helps us choose to think, act, and say things that demonstrate God’s love and character.

Pastor Micah started a new series this week called Wisdom:A Study in Proverbs! This wisdom is timeless; it was relevant thousands of years ago and it is relevant today. The specifics may have changed, but the principles in Proverbs are still solid and sound advice for you and me! This week we focused on defining what wisdom is, and how to pursue or gain wisdom!

Here are 2 important observations I wanted to highlight in regards to the book of Proverbs:

  1. Proverbs contains general principles about how life should work.
  2. Proverbs contains examples of foolish vs. wise behavior. (Not necessarily focusing on the morality of right vs wrong)

So how do we pursue/gain wisdom in our lives?

  1. Ask God for it!
  2. Seek out God's Truth! (Scripture)
  3. Listen to Wise People

Bottom Line: Wisdom is knowledge applied, but in Proverbs we learn that Godly Wisdom is knowledge applied in a way that honors God!

  3. Drop the ACT
  4. Drop the BAGGAGE
  5. Drop....to your KNEES!

Pastor Laura shared a wonderful message on the topic of sacrificial love. By looking at the life of Jesus and other characters from the Bible Pastor Laura reminded us about the importance and powerful of sacrificial love. She also looked at how one of the greatest ways we can relate to sacrificial love is through our experience as parents. The two main points of this week's message on sacrificial love are:

  1. Sacrificial love puts other people's needs first!
  2. Sacrificial love is an action!

Bottom Line: C.S. Lewis said "humility is not thinking less of yourself, it’s thinking of yourself less." As we seek to love others sacrificially, we are not devaluing ourselves, but thinking more of Jesus and others.

Pastor Micah wrapped up our current series this week called "Honor" which focuses on the topic of honor. In this 3 week series we we look at the importance of honoring God, honoring those in authority, and honoring those around us! This week we looked at the Apostle Paul's teaching in 1 Corinthians 12 and Romans 12 that teach about how we're all members of one body. Jesus also spent time teaching this concept to the disciples in John 13. We looked at three biblical reasons why we're to show honor to one another:

  1. We are One Body
  2. We are Commanded to Honor One Another
  3. When we Honor One Another it shows the world that we are True Disciples of Jesus

Here are 3 important questions for us to consider as we reflect upon how well we are showing honor to one another:

  1. Are you doing a good job of viewing everyone as a member of one body?
  2. Are you obeying the commands that scripture lays out about honoring one another?
  3. Lastly, through your actions are people seeing someone who represents a true disciple of Jesus?

Pastor Micah continued in our current series this week called "Honor" which focuses on the topic of honor. In this 3 week series we we look at the importance of honoring God, honoring those in authority, and honoring those around us! This week we looked at Matthew 20 and the conversation between Jesus and John, James, and their mother about who would sit in the spots of honor next to Jesus in Heaven.  We looked at three biblical examples of authority that each of us have in our lives: our parents, our leaders, and our pastors. I want you to consider these 3 questions when you think about whether or not you have been honoring those in authority in your life:

  1. When is the last time you encouraged a leader, your boss, or pastor?
  2. When was the last time you said, “thank you” for all that they do for you?
  3. When was the last time you did something to make their lives easier?

Bottom Line: The principle that Jesus taught is this: if serving is beneath you, leadership is beyond you. You want to be a leader one day? Serve. Swallow your pride and serve your leader.

As we took time to celebrate all of the fathers in our church and community Pastor Micah shared a message called "God Our Father." This week Pastor Micah took time to break down the heart of God the Father in relation to Jesus the Son, the role of the Holy Spirit, and us today as children of God! As Pastor Micah shared here are 3 of the important things that God the Father does for us today:

  1. God the Father delights in His children and sings over us!
  2. God the Father is transforming us!
  3. God the Father is holding us close!

Bottom Line: God the Father is our "Abba Father" which translates to the fact that God is our "Dad." It's a personal relationship where God knows us and longs to be in an intimate relationship with us!

We looked at the final words of Jesus before His ascension from Acts chapter 1 as Jesus told His disciples, and us today, about how to fulfill the Great Commission of taking the Gospel message to all people. It can and will only happen as we're empowered by the Holy Spirit!

Bottom Line: We're so limited in our own strength and ability, but when we allow the Holy Spirit to empower us we become powerful witnesses to all people of all nations!

Pastor Bethani shared a wonderful message this week looking at the life of Jochebed (Moses' mother) and her courageous love that serves as a great examples to all mothers and Christians. By looking at the inspiring story of Jochebed and her unwavering faith in God’s plan we examined the courageous actions Jochebed took to protect her son and the impact of her faith had on Moses’ life. By reflecting on Jochebed’s strength and faith, we will be inspired to be the strong, faithful mothers we were created to be. Here is a quick recap of the message:

  1. Jochebed’s Courageous Actions
  2. The Impact of a Mother’s Faith
  3. Celebrating Strong, Faithful Mothers

We had a great time celebrating all of the mother's at the close of the message as well. Happy Mother's Day to all of the mothers in our church and community! We love and appreciate each of you!! <3

Pastor Micah started a new series this week called "Honor" which focuses on the topic of honor. In this 3 week series we we look at the importance of honoring God, honoring those in authority, and honoring those around us! This week we looked at Malachi chapter 1 where God asks the question to the Israelites, "where are the honor and respect I deserve?" God also refers to Himself as our Father and Master. We took time to look at how God is both our Father and Master.  When it comes to deciding whether or not you're going to honor God, I want you to consider these five questions:

  1. Where does your salvation come from? (God)
  2. Where do all the blessings in your life come from? (God)
  3. Who put you on this Earth? (God)
  4. Who has a plan for your life? (God)
  5. Who deserves your honor? (God)

Bottom Line: I know sometimes what God wants to speak to us isn’t always what we WANT to hear, but what we NEED to hear!

Pastors Micah & Laura discussed why the Bible really matters to us as Christians. Pastor Laura shared 3 reasons why we read the Bible:

  1. To know how to live
  2. To obey God
  3. To get to know God better

Pastor Micah shared 4 reasons why the Bible really matters to us:

  1. The Bible is the inspired Word of God
  2. God's Word is Eternal
  3. Jesus is God's Word
  4. Jesus promised to reveal Himself to us through His Word

Bottom Line: When we read the Bible we should always expect to find Jesus Christ, because He is to be found from beginning to the end.

Pastor Micah shared a message using the story about the Israelites complaining in the wilderness about being hungry to remind us about how God has always, and will continue to always provide for His children. Sometimes like with the Israelites it doesn't look how we would imagine. For them it was quail and manna. For us God provided His Son, Jesus Christ, as the final sacrifice to deal with the sin issue in the world. He also provides for us in every other area of our lives (finances, shelter, food, clothing, work, etc.). However just like with the Israelites sometimes it doesn't look the way we thought it would/should. When we look at John chapter 6 Jesus teaches us that He is the 'bread of life.' Here are 3 key takeaways from that passage in John 6:48-51:

  1. Jesus is God's gift to US!
    • God doesn't always answer our prayers in the way we expect
  2. Jesus is a gift for EVERYONE!
    • Jesus was known for inviting everyone to the party
  3. You can't just pick up the manna, you have to EAT IT!

Bottom Line: If you're following Jesus, are you living a life that reflects Him?

Pastor Micah built upon last week's Easter message that focused on how Jesus brought us new life through His life, death, and resurrection. This week we continued in John 20 to look at how Jesus greets his disciples when He first appears to them following His resurrection. His first words to His disciples, His very close friends, was "Peace be with you." Jesus still offers us peace in our lives today! Are you in need of peace in your life?

Jesus continues to show up for us today in 2023:

  • In Him, we find restoration.
  • In Him, we find wholeness.
  • In Him, we find peace.

Bottom Line: Peace is not just the absence of conflict or brokenness; it is the presence of restoration and wholeness.

Pastor Micah shared a celebration message for Easter this year sharing how Jesus came to bring new life into the world through His life, death, and resurrection. Through one man, Adam, we see sin bring separation from God in the world. Then through one man, Jesus Christ, one Man overcame sin and death forever bringing us back into a right standing relationship with God! Through Jesus we find victory over death and sin forever! He is risen!

Main idea: The story of the empty tomb in John’s gospel is one of re-creation with hints back to the book of Genesis and John 1. The Risen Christ sees Mary just as she is and loves her. The Risen Jesus sees all of us, too, just as we are, and offers to re-create us with resurrection life. This is the fulfillment of God saving the world through his Son and not condemning the world.

Guest Speaker, Pastor Marcus Montana shared an encouraging message discussing the importance of running the race of life while looking at Hebrews 12:1-2. He broke down the concept of running into 4 different categories of runners which each person falls into:

  1. Sprinter: Someone looking for quick/fast results. (Instant gratification mindset)
  2. Forrest Gump Runner: Someone running due to a tragic event that happened in their life. Often causing them to run form their responsibilities and possibly even their faith.
  3. Long Distance Runner: A runner who is dedicated and runs with consistency. Thinking of the long term goal in mind, but has the danger of being complacent or judgmental over time.
  4. Marathon Runner: Running by the power of the Holy Spirit  to endure the challenges of life

Bottom Line: Why are you running? Where are you headed? (To or from God?)

Pastor Micah continued our current series this week called "The Way" as we look at the life of Jesus Christ to see how He leads the way in our lives. This week we focused on Matthew 17:1-9. While on earth, Jesus often instructed people to keep His true identity a secret. However, in this passage, Jesus transfigured before Peter, James, and John, allowing them to get a glimpse of who He really was. He reveals to them that He is the messiah, the savior of the world, and the son of God. He is the way, the truth, and the life. Here are a few questions to consider how this passage applies to us today in 2023:

  • Do we see Jesus for who He really is?
  • Do we honor Him as savior?
  • Has His Way become Our Way?
  • Do we trust that He is the way, the truth, and the life?

Bottom Line: In my life, Do I love Jesus and follow His teachings, or do I cherry pick the things I want to follow and leave the rest behind?

Pastor Micah started a new series this week called "The Way" as we look at the life of Jesus Christ to see how He leads the way in our lives. This week we focused on Matthew 5:1-16. In this passage we find the beatitudes which set the context for verses 13-16 where Jesus calls us to be salt and light! What does it mean to be the "salt of the earth" and the "light of the world" in 2023?

Bottom Line: Jesus is calling the poor in spirit, meek, merciful, hungry, thirsty, persecuted, and others…He’s calling all of us. You are the salt of the earth! You are valuable and your story matters!

Pastor Micah shared a powerful message that will encourage you in your faith! By looking at the story of Jesus healing the demon possessed boy in Mark 9, we see the father ask Jesus "If you can?" I believe we can all relate to this father's question as he was desperate to see his son healed. The situations in our lives that we're longing to see changed may be different, but we struggle with the same question. Jesus teaches us that all things are possible to those "who believe!" We also looked at the Apostle Paul's teaching in Romans 8 which helps us see how the Holy Spirit helps intercede and lead us as believers!

Faith is not believing in what we've already seen, but believing in what we have yet to see take place!

2 Questions to consider:

  1. How many times without even realizing it do we begin to stop believing what Jesus told us He can do? Asking Jesus the question, "If you can?"
  2. What are you asking "If you can" to God today?

View Details

Pastor Micah looked at the story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego this week as we discussed how to overcome fear in our lives. The question we focused on today was "How do we walk by faith in a fear filled world?" Here are the 2 points we took away from this story in Daniel 3:8-18 today:

  1. A Life of Faith will be marked with Conflict
  2. A Life of Faith Obeys before the Outcome is Realized

Practically, how do we battle against fear on a daily basis?"

  1. Renew your Mind around the Character of God (God is personal, sovereign, faithful, and for us)
  2. Grow in your Love for God
  3. Live with an Eternal Perspective

Bottom Line: What should make our lives distinct as followers of Christ in the midst of fearful circumstances?

  2. Communal Prayer
  3. Powerful Prayer

Bottom Line: “Change can be accomplished most of all through the power of prayer because with God all things are possible.” Wilfred A. Peterson

Pastor Micah continued our current series "Devoted: Living Immersed and Empowered." This week we focus on how the Early Church was devoted to the breaking of bread, or as we more commonly called it, communion. Communion is a time we take as believers to remember Jesus. It stands to reason that when we gather together we would also take communion together and keep ourselves focused on the life, death, and resurrection of Christ. The 2 main points of this week's message are:

  1. The Importance of Remembrance (why do we practice communion?)
  2. Seeking Reconciliation (with God and one another)

Pastors Micah & Laura shared during our family service about the 4 different kinds of love based on the 4 different Greek words used to describe love in the New Testament. We took time to share examples of each kind of love from the Bible, and what each kind of love looks like in 2023. Here are the 4 different kinds of Love:

  1. Agape: Unconditional Love
  2. Storge: Parental Love
  3. Phileo: Brotherly/Friendship Love
  4. Eros: Romantic Love

Bottom Line: Let’s keep Agape love at the center of all other loves. When we do that, we will find that all other loves will be demonstrated in a healthy way, resulting in overall healthy relationships, and thereby God will be glorified in the process.

Pastor Micah looked at how scripture repeatedly speaks to the sanctity (sacred, holy) of life. Our world like to talk about the value of life, but fails to answer two important questions: Why is life sacred? When does life begin? King David in Psalm 139 paints a beautiful depiction of the sacredness of life. Here are two keys for us to remember from Psalm 139 about the sanctity of life:

  1. What's in the womb is God's possession (Ps 139:13a)
  2. We're God's Workmanship (Ps. 139:13b, 15)

Pastor Micah also shared three practical ways we can help those considering abortion, and help promote pro-life options and ministries.

  1. Keep fighting because the tide is turning
  2. Keep fighting, but pick your battles wisely
  3. Keep fighting, but prioritize people over politics

Pastor Micah continued our current series "Devoted: Living Immersed and Empowered." This week we focus on how the Early Church was devoted to fellowship with one another. The Greek word used for fellowship is Koinonia which means "holding something in common." Repeatedly scripture teaches us about the importance of fellowship or joining together on a regular basis with the body of Christ. The enemy (Satan) wants to get us alone or get us thinking we’re alone, but Peter (1 Peter 5:8-9) wants us to remember we are not alone. We’re part of a much bigger family, a fellowship with a common focus and bond.

Main Point: There is amazing diversity in the fellowship of Christ, and amazing unity can be found through Christ.

Bottom Line: Fellowship is a communal exercise with a common focus.

Pastor Micah began a new series this week called "Devoted: Living Immersed and Empowered." Throughout this series we focus on 4 key elements that the Early Church was devoted to every time they gathered together. By looking at Acts 2:42 we learned the Early Church devoted themselves to the Apostles' teaching, fellowship, breaking of bread (communion), and prayer. Each week throughout this series we will focus on 1 element.

This week we focused on how they were devoted to teaching. They were dedicated students who were willing to invest their time, energy, and attention to the teaching of Christ.  Are we still willing to be devoted students in 2023 like the Early Church was?

By looking at the words of Isaiah the prophet in Isaiah 40:28-31 we're reminded that God not only can, but He will renew your strength as you wait upon the Lord. Here are the 3 main points Pastor Micah pulled out of this passage for us to consider as we step into 2023 and believe God for even greater things this year:

  1. The Lord is the everlasting God and Creator to the ends of the Earth
  2. Hope = Waiting
  3. God remembers His promises to His people, and He will renew and restore you!

Bottom Line: No matter what 2022 was like for you, know that as you hope in the Lord He can renew your strength in 2023 and beyond!

Pastor Micah concluded our Christmas series "The Cast of Christmas" at our Christmas Eve Service. This week we focus on the final cast member of the Christmas story, Us. The question is how will we respond to the Christmas story and the coming of the Messiah? God reached out to us, and displayed His amazing unconditional love by sending His One and Only Son to this Earth to make a way for us to come back into relationship with Him. Jesus was the only one who could wash away the sins of this world. We looked at how every cast member in the Christmas story responded to the arrival of the Messiah Jesus Christ. No the big question, how will you respond?

View Details

Pastor Micah continued with our current series, "The Cast of Christmas" by looking at the Magi (the Wise Men) and their response to the birth of the Messiah, Jesus Christ. In Matthew 2:1-12 we read about the Magi's response to the birth of the Messiah, but we also learn about how King Herod and the religious leaders responded to Jesus' birth. All 3 responded in different ways, and we can learn from each of them:

  1. The Magi responded with worship & adoration.
  2. The Religious Leaders understood what the prophecy foretold of the coming Messiah, but did not other than point out He was to be born in Bethlehem. The religious leaders were more interested in knowing about Jesus than actually getting to know Jesus.
  3. King Herod responded to the birth of the Messiah as a threat to his power as the King. He wanted to preserve his place of power and eliminate the newborn King, Jesus Christ.

Bottom Line: Once the Magi encounter Jesus Christ their lives were forever changed as they responded with worship and adoration. Our lives should also be forever changed as a result of knowing Jesus Christ personally. May we also respond in worship and adoration!

Pastors Micah & Laura Reed shared during our annual Christmas family service! For this week's cast member we focused on the Shepherds who help remind us of the Hope & Joy that came to Earth through Jesus as the first and greatest Christmas present ever! Our Kids also performed a couple Christmas songs which you can watch on our church website (www.chisholmag.com) or on our YouTube Page (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCkQ1J-ujldOZF3xcDUCF6CA)

Life can be hard, but we know the secret the shepherds held. The Savior has come! In Him, we are saved. In Him, we win. The amazing thing is, no matter what happens, that can never be taken away from us. Jesus tells us in John 8: 36 that “If the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.”

So, let’s live like we’re saved. Let’s live like we’re loved. Let’s live like we’re free. Every moment is a chance to sing and live our praises to our amazing King. Every moment is a chance to rejoice. Every moment is an opportunity to be filled with and to overflow with joy. Let your strength arise. Let your hope arise. Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice!

Missionaries Phil & Denise Reed who serve in Ukraine shared a powerful update with us this week. They shared about their experience in Ukraine leading up to and through the first week of the Russian invasion into Ukraine. Phil also shared a powerful message about overcoming the giant of disobedience.

Here are a few keys to take away from looking at King Saul's disobedience in 1 Samuel 15:

  • Partial obedience is really DISOBEDIENCE
  • Delayed obedience is really DISOBEDIENCE
  • Lying does not coverup our DISOBEDIENCE
  • Casting blame does not excuse our DISOBEDIENCE
  • DISOBEDIENCE brings a curse that affects others
  • DISOBEDIENCE is sin

Here are a few keys to take away from Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in Daniel 3:

  • Complete OBEDIENCE to God honors Him
  • Honesty about our OBEDIENCE to God helps others learn of Him
  • OBEDIENCE before God is most important
  • OBEDIENCE is my responsibility
  • OBEDIENCE brings a blessing that affects others

  1. Discerning Truth
  2. Finding Balance (Moderation)
  3. Contentment Leads to Empowerment

Trusting God leads to a clear vision of your purpose and the strength to achieve it.

  3. A Commissioned People

Bottom Line: Christ died for our sins, He was buried, and He rose again on the third day, having completed by himself all that was necessary to redeem mankind.

Pastor Micah took time this week to look at the miracle of Jesus feeding the 5,000 (more likely it was 10,000+ when you include the women and children present). In this story we tend to focus on the miracle of Jesus feeding the crowd with the 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish (which is truly amazing, only God could do that!), but there are many things to be learned when we look at what took place on the periphery of this miracle as well. We focused on Luke's account of this miracle which is found in Luke 9:10-17. Here are the 5 W's that we can take away from Jesus teaching:

  1. WHO got to participate in this meal? Everyone
  2. WHAT did Jesus serve at this meal? 2 loaves of bread and 5 fish (aka whatever He had available to Him)
  3. WHEN did this meal take place? At the "wrong time."
  4. WHERE did this meal take place? Right where they were!
  5. WHY was this meal important? JESUS

Main Point: Jesus WELCOMED the crowd, Jesus TAUGHT the crowd, and Jesus HEALED those in the crowd who needed to be healed.

Bottom Line: At the table of Jesus, ALL ARE WELCOME!

Pastors Micah and Laura Reed took time this week to co-preach about the importance of the Armor of God which is described in Ephesians chapter 6. Each of the 6 pieces of the armor are necessary to fight the spiritual warfare taking place in our lives and world. We looked at the real physical practical application the each piece of armor provides as well as the spiritual significance that each piece of armor provides.

Summary: We entered a battle zone the day we were saved. God has given us 6 pieces of armor to fight the good fight of faith. These pieces have real-world applications to give us overcoming power.

Bottom Line: The battle is the Lords and He is waging war on your behalf!

When life does not go according to our plans, it is easy to become discouraged. When we feel out of control, we have the tendency to lose hope. However, whenever we find ourselves feeling this way, we must remember that God has a plan for each and every one of our lives. His plan is to prosper us and not to harm us. His plan is to give us the strength to overcome. His plan is to hold us with His never-ending love. The Church is the place where we discover this plan for our lives. Hope happens here. We can’t do life alone.

Pastor Micah finished up our current series this week called "Anchor." Throughout this series Pastor Micah focused on how Jesus is the anchor for our soul. The main verse for this series is Hebrews 6:19, *“This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, a hope both sure and steadfast…”

Big Idea: We must learn to remain firm and steadfast in Jesus. Apart from Him, we have no hope. He is the way, the truth, and the life. He is the firm and secure anchor.   Bottom Line: What do you need to let go of today?*

Pastor Micah finished up our current series called "Bridge Builders" this week. In the final message of the series we looked at the importance of reconciliation! Reconcile is based off the Greek word "katallasso" which means 'to exchange.' Christ came to reconcile, or exchange our old way of life (sin) for a new way of life (Salvation through Christ). Here are few key points to consider from this week's message:

Division and hostility are far from the heart of God. Reconciliation is the heartbeat of the kingdom.

Diversity in the body of Christ was God's plan. Division was not.

Bottom Line: Healing is the heart of our Father (God). Reconciliation is the ministry He's given us!

Pastors Micah & Laura took time this week to teach on the parable of "The Wise & The Foolish Builders" with a family style service. Pastor Laura shared a great object lesson to help us understand the importance of having a solid foundation built upon the rock, Jesus Christ! Pastor Micah then took time to expound on 5 different key components of building a solid foundation to stand upon:

  1. God's Word
  2. Having a Personal Relationship with Jesus Christ
  3. Prayer
  4. Being a Part of a Community of Believers
  5. Serving

Bottom Line: The Foundation Matters

Pastor Micah continued on in our current series called "Bridge Builders" this week. Throughout this series we will discuss the significance of being Christians who help build bridges instead of widen the gaps in our world and culture created by division.

Big Idea: Sometimes the biggest chasm that exists is between family members. God teaches us about his bridge-building mentality through Jesus’ telling of the prodigal son. A boy goes off and wastes all his father gives him. At rock bottom, he decides to come home. Rather than his father being angry or frustrated, he throws a party. We should be eager to offer grace to those with whom we have a broken relationship and when it is restored, we should throw a party. Just like the father whose son was lost, but came home to be found again.

Pastor Micah continued on in our current series called "Bridge Builders" this week. Throughout this series we will discuss the significance of being Christians who help build bridges instead of widen the gaps in our world and culture created by division.

Big Idea: The story of the Good Samaritan is as inspiring as it is tragic. The two individuals who pass by the man who is in need are religious folks who should have been willing to help. The only person to reach out their hand was a person who would have been unexpected because he was a Samaritan. Samaritans and Jews were divided in every way, but the hero in this story is someone who breaks barriers to show compassion.

Pastor Micah took time this week to discuss the meaning of Pentecost as we observed Pentecost Sunday. The Day of Pentecost is a historic event that took place as God poured the Holy Spirit upon the Early Church to empower, equip, and enable us to reach the world for Christ! Pastor Micah looked at the connection between the Passover and Pentecost Festivals.

  1. There was the sound of a violent rushing wind that filled the house.
  2. The appearance of tongues of fire resting on each person in the room.
  3. Not meant to encourage believers to have an ecstatic for their own edification.

Bottom Line: God’s purpose at Pentecost was to equip His church with the power of the Holy Spirit so that we would be His witnesses to all the nations, resulting in His eternal glory. (Habakkuk 2:14)

Pastor Bethani Monson shared a powerful message entitled "Baton" as we celebrated and honored our high school and college graduates of 2022. Using the Apostle Paul's teaching from 2 Timothy 2:1-2 and relay race illustrations Pastor Bethani encourages us to properly handle the baton passes in our lives. She focused on three main points:

  1. It has to be the right baton (Our Baton = The Gospel)
  2. The space to pass the baton is limited
  3. A dropped baton is not the end of the race

"Sometimes we get so focused on the good things, that we miss the God things."

Bottom Line: What if we stop talking about a dropped baton and start walking towards the baton to pick it up?

Pastor Micah shared a message this week called "Where is Your Focus?" Have we truly lost our ability to focus? Or is it the object of our focus that is the main concern? Throughout this message Pastor Micah uses the story of Peter walking on the water in Matthew 14:22-33 to remind us of the importance of keeping our focus fixed upon Jesus!

When Peter took his eyes off Jesus and saw the wind and waves, he immediately began to sink.  He forgot who was sustaining him (Jesus) and allowed the wind and the waves that were against him to overpower him. Jesus was right there to save him. Jesus was reminding him that he did not need to doubt the power and strength of Jesus to overcome anything and everything that came against him.

Jesus says that you're "mine" and He will do anything to help you understand how much He loves and cares for you! (Luke 15:3-7)

Reflection Question: On what, or rather who, are you focusing?

Bottom Line: Our focus needs to be on Jesus because His focus is on us!

Pastor Micah finished up our current series, "You Belong Here!" this week! Throughout this series we discussed the importance and significance of gathering together. Each week we looked at a different topic from scripture that describes the importance of gathering together as a part of a local church body!

Week 4 we focus on "gathering for unity". Looking at multiple passages of scripture Pastor Micah pulls out 4 main points for this week's message as we focus on the importance of unity:

  1. Unity in Christ (Matthew 18:20)
  2. Unity is Blessed (Psalm 133)
  3. What to do when we feel Divided (Romans 12:18)
  4. We are One in Christ (Ephesians 4:1-6)

If someone hurts you or wrongs you, would you prayerfully consider forgiving them? What would it take for you to extend forgiveness to them? Is the offense worth losing unity and harmony over?

Bottom Line: Unity is God’s best for us. And when we gather together, unified in Christ, we experience His blessing.

  1. Together we have a Greater Harvest (Proverbs 14:4)
  2. Together we have a Greater Protection (1 Peter 5:8)
  3. Together we have a Greater Strength (Ecclesiastes 4:12)

These two women  taught us many important characteristics of  how we are to live out of our faith whether we are a mom or not. The three characteristics Pastor Laura taught about from their lives are the following:

  1. Women are Fiercely Loyal!
  2. Women are Fiercely Generous!
  3. Women are Persistent in Prayer!

Bottom Line: We want to challenge everyone to celebrate each other's mountain tops and comfort those in the valley!

How can each of us in the body of Christ continue to become more fiercely loyal, fiercely generous, and persistent in prayer?

Each week we will look at a different topic from scripture that describes the importance of gathering together as a part of a local church body!

Week 2 we focus on "gathering for rhythm". By looking at Acts 2:42, Pastor Micah pulls out 4 main points for this week's message based on how the Early Church met on a regular basis to help them have a healthy rhythm to their lives:

  1. Teaching (Learning)
  2. Fellowship (Gathering Together)
  3. Breaking of Bread (Communion) (1 Corinthians 11:23-26)
  4. Prayer (Matthew 6:9-13)

The early church was absolutely committed to these practices and I’ve got to believe that they knew a thing or two about the habits needed to persevere through life and all its difficulties.

Bottom Line: A healthy rhythm forms healthy habits - and habits are powerful in shaping our lives.

2 Response Challenges to this week's message:

  1. Identify and Access your habits or rhythm of life. Are they positive? negative? What would you like to change about your habits?
  2. What is keeping you from gathering for fellowship?

  3. Do It More, Not Less!

Bottom Line: Life is difficult, confusing, and frustrating. To know that you have a place to go and be lifted up or challenged to keep moving in faith every week is a gift.

  1. Commitment to increased fellowship (within the local church context)

This past Sunday we celebrated the resurrection of Jesus Christ. On Easter Sunday Pastor Micah finished our current series called "From the Ashes: Embracing the Full Life of God." Our lives can sometimes feel like they are a disappointing pile of ashes. We can be broken, shattered, and destroyed.

However, the good news of Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection is that we can experience new life. In and through Christ, you can rise above the ashes and experience abundant life. Each week we will look at one aspect of Jesus’ life and ministry during His time here on earth and what we can learn from Him.

The centerpiece of the Christian faith is the resurrection of Jesus Christ. The fact that Jesus rose from the dead gives hope to His followers that since death was defeated, then there is nothing that cannot be overcome. As believers, we identify with Jesus in His death by dying to our old self and being raised to new life. Here are 4 lessons we learn from the life of Christ and His resurrection:

  1. The Tomb WAS and IS Empty! (Luke 24:1-6, 1 Corinthians 15:13-14)
  2. Hearts Ablaze (Luke 24:13-17, 29-33)
  3. All the Promises (Luke 24:44-45, 2 Corinthians 1:20)
  4. Life From Death (Job 40:4-5, 42:2-6)

It’s a paradox, but from Jesus’ death comes new life. And not just breathing, not just skimping by, but abundant thriving. The fullness of life.

Bottom Line: Christ redeems it all, uses it all, and sees it all!

This past Sunday we celebrated Palm Sunday as Pastor Micah continues on in our series this week called "From the Ashes: Embracing the Full Life of God." Our lives can sometimes feel like they are a disappointing pile of ashes.

The Hebrew people experienced the temporary forgiveness of sins by the blood of an animal sacrifice. The sacrifice of Jesus, to leave heaven and offer himself on the cross, was an atoning sacrifice that is effective throughout eternity. Through Christ, we are completely redeemed from the ashes of our former life. Here are 4 lessons we learn from the life of Christ when it comes to the topic of Sacrifice:

  1. Humility & Sacrifice Are Required (Philippians 2:6-8)
  2. There Is A Cost (Luke 14:25-33)
  3. Crucified With Christ (Galatians 2:20; Hebrews 4:15-16)
  4. It Is Worth It (Hebrews 12:1-2)

For those who don't believe in Jesus, His sacrifice was nothing more than the loss of a human life. But to us who BELIEVE, it is the promise of ETERNAL LIFE!

Bottom Line: Sacrifice takes courage, conviction, and confidence, but it is worth it!

Confession is the process of recognition of sin, turning from it, and experiencing the forgiveness of God. Having a regular practice of searching our lives and coming into the light can cultivate a life full of grace and mercy as we rise from the ashes of past sins and poor decision-making in our lives. For this week's message we focused on the story of the Prodigal Son found in Luke 15:11-24.

  1. We Squander It All (Luke 15:11-13; Isaiah 53:6)
  2. No Longer Worthy (Luke 15:14-20)
  3. Alive Again (Luke 15:20-24)

What can be confessed, repented of, and healed today? (James 5:16)

Bottom Line: What's keeping you from the Father today? (Anger, Unforgiveness, Offense, Unmet Expectations, Past Hurts, etc.)

In the busyness of life, we often neglect our connection to the source of life. Drawing near to God through contemplative prayer is the way in which we experience the nearness of God. This is an intentional practice that won’t happen by accident.

  1. Lift your Eyes Up (Psalm 121:1-2, 7-8)

  2. Practice Stillness (Psalm 46:10, 62:1)

Jesus reminds us that He offers us a place to bring our burdens, exhaustion, and chaos by coming into His presence! (Matthew 11:28-30)

Bottom Line: We need to intentionally create spaces and places where we sit in the still, quiet, peaceful presence of the Lord!

Each week we will look at one aspect of Jesus’ life and ministry during His time here on earth and what we can learn from Him.

Jesus demonstrated humility by coming to earth from heaven and washing the feet of His disciples. When we choose to exercise humility, we look most like Christ to the world around us.

  1. Jesus set the example of humility (Philippians 2:3-8)

  2. Don't take advantage of your position

  3. Serve others
  4. Give your life away

  5. Humility is a Big Deal (1 Peter 5:5-6; Psalm 138:6)

Jesus wanted the disciples to know how much He loved them. He showed them His unconditional love by lowering Himself to the form of a servant by washing His disciples feet. (John 13:1-17)

Bottom Line: Where pride is abundant, humility is absent!

But this isn’t just a series for the broken and shattered - this is for anyone who wants to grow in the knowledge and understanding of Christ. Each week we will look at one aspect of Jesus’ life and ministry during His time here on earth and what we can learn from Him.

We must first acknowledge that temptation should be expected in our lives. Jesus experienced temptation of every kind and was able to overcome it. His example teaches us what we need to know in battling temptation and rising above it in our own lives. By looking at how Jesus dealt with temptation during His 40 days in the wilderness in Matthew chapter 4 we find 4 keys to overcoming temptation in our own lives:

  1. It begins with our identity. (Matt. 3:13-17; 4:3)
  2. Provision (Matt. 4:3-4)
  3. Protection (Matt. 4:5-7, Psalm 46:1)
  4. Position (Matt. 4:8-11, 6:33)

Bottom Line: If scripture was sufficient for Jesus, then it ought to be enough for us too!

Pastor Micah finishes up our current series 'How Does God Speak to Us?' with part 3 "God's Voice vs Satan's Voice." This week we focused on how to discern the difference between the voice of God and all of the rest of the noise in our lives. Scripture is full of examples of God's nature, especially as it relates to how God communicates with us. Based on the promises we find in scripture we will look at 6 things God will never do:

  1. God will never lie.
  2. God will never tempt you to sin.
  3. God's voice will never bring confusion.
  4. God's voice will never tear you down.
  5. God's voice will never contradict Scripture.
  6. God will never change.

The Bottom Line: If something is leading you to go against God’s Word, it isn’t of God.

Pastor Micah continues on in our current series "How Does God Speak to Us?" In week 2 we focused on how God speaks to us through His "Still Small Voice.' God is still currently speaking to us today, the question is, are we listening? By looking at a story from Elijah's life in 1 Kings 19 we see that God often speaks to us in a quiet whisper. Elijah became so scared, anxious, and depressed that he began to say and do very outlandish things. How many of you can relate? We must remember that while food and rest are good and necessary, it's so important that we continue to consume the Word of God!

Bottom Line: “Draw near to God, He will draw near to you.” (James 4:8a ESV)

Pastor Micah started a new series this week, "How Does God Speak to Us?" Through this series our goal is to help you realize it takes everyone time to learn how to hear and discern the voice of God. Each week will have a different focus and for week 1 we look at how we can better 'understand God's will for our lives.'

This week we discussed 4 different lenses that God uses to speak to us today:

  1. We hear God's voice through the influence of others. (Proverbs 15:22; 13:20)
  2. We hear God's voice through life situations. (Change of perspective)
  3. We hear god's voice through the leading of the Holy Spirit. (John 16:7-13; 14:26)
  4. We hear God's voice through the Word of God. (Romans 12:2)

Big Idea: God shows us the will of God through the Word of God.

Bottom Line: You can invite God into every situation in your life!

Pastor Micah looked at Mark 8:11-18 to see how 2 groups of people, the Pharisees and the Disciples, reacted following Jesus miraculous feeding of 4,000 people with just 7 loaves of bread. Neither the Pharisees or the Disciples could see what Jesus had just done right in front of their eyes. Specifically, the Pharisees were unwilling to see what Jesus was doing. While the Disciples were inattentive to what Jesus was doing.

Here are the 3 main points we can take away from this passage when it comes to seeing/hearing what God is doing in our lives and the world:

  1. If you aren’t willing to believe, you will overlook or discredit even the most obvious signs of God.
  2. When you stop and get silent, you can see the hand of God and hear the voice of God.
  3. God is working in our lives far more than we realize.

Pastor Micah answers one of the most frequently asked questions he is asked as a pastor, "What is my purpose in life?" Pastor Micah shares about how we're all created with a purpose, but we're often hit with the tension between what God calls us to do and what we would rather do. Following Jesus involves risk & tension. By looking at 2 Peter chapter 1 we find Paul encouraging Timothy to keep living a life of purpose and intentionality. Paul gave Timothy 4 key points to consider in 2 Timothy 1:1-14, and I believe they still apply to us today:

  1. Hold Fast to Our Faith
  2. Share the Good News
  3. Rely on God's Power (Empowering through the Holy Spirit)
  4. Continue to Grow

Chisholm Assembly of God observed this week as 'Sanctity of Human Life' Sunday. Pastor Micah took time to examine the most important issue of our day, and what our Biblical world view should be about life. The view that we have about life intertwines with virtually every other issue we face today. The world view that most people have been taught within our secular culture says that life occurred by chance. This teaching says that there is not a creator that ordered our world and hence, man is not accountable or answerable to a creator. In fact, our current government is actively working to replace our Judeo-Christian belief system with a Darwinist belief system that cheapens life and is void of any moral base. The only way to counter the flood of the politically correct and radical teachings is to know and stand up for truth – **Biblical truth.

Big Truth for the Day: This is where a Biblical World View begins – God is the creator of all life and every life has purpose and meaning.**Bottom Line: The answer to the issue of abortion, and all of the problems in our world today, always has been and always will be Jesus.

Our main verse for this message is found in Hebrews 4:16.

  • "Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need." (NIV)
  • "So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most." (NLT)

Pastor Micah started 2022 off by sharing a message entitled "New Year Same Gospel"! In this message he used passages from the book of Galatians to share what the gospel really is, what it's not, and what we should do with it. While everything in our world in constantly changing, there is one thing which remains the same, the Gospel message.  While there are many versions of a false gospel out there today, we all need to be reminded that there is only one gospel and it's for both believers and non-believers.

There were 3 main points to Pastor Micah's message:
1. The Gospel HAS NOT changed!
2. Christians still NEED the Gospel!
3. There is NO OTHER Gospel!

Pastor Micah also shared 3 practical action steps that we can all do as we continue to growing in our faith:
1. STUDY the Gospel!
2. SAVOR the Gospel!
3. SHARE the Gospel!

  2. What is your favorite memory, tradition, or part about celebrating Christmas?

Pastor Micah shared a Christmas Eve message entitled "What's In A Name?" Throughout our Christmas Eve service we focused on the 4 different names that Isaiah prophesied over the coming Messiah in Isaiah 9:6, Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace. In his message, Pastor Micah focused on how Jesus is our Wonderful Counselor and Mighty God, and what that means for us still today!

You may wonder how Jesus can be considered a wonderful counselor for you today? Because Jesus experienced temptation, grief, rejection, heartache, and many other emotions while He lived on Earth. (Hebrews 4:15) In Matthew 6:25-34 we find Jesus counseling the crowds as He delivers part of His 'Sermon on the Month' messages.

How do we know that Jesus is a mighty God? Simply by looking at how He overcame death and sin forever with His death and resurrection. (Matthew 28:1-10)

Bottom Line: Jesus is both “Mighty God” and “Wonderful Counselor.” He is so strong and powerful, and kind and gentle all at the same time. He has dominion over everything, yet He takes the time to remind us that He is near and wants to be involved in even the smallest details of our lives.

We had a great time this year at our Christmas Family Service as we focused on the topic of Jesus being our "Prince of Peace." Our kids performed 'The 12 Days of Christmas in Minnesota' and 'Happy Birthday Jesus.' Pastor Laura shared a kid's lesson explaining how Jesus is our 'Prince of Peace' just like Isaiah prophesied in Isaiah 9:6. Pastor Micah looked at how in John 14:27 Jesus told us He brings a peace unlike the peace the world can offer. Here are 3 different ways that Peace entered the world through our Messiah, Jesus Christ:

  1. Winning Peace: Real peace is not won by avoiding or denying conflict. (Ephesians 2:14; Luke 2:14)
  2. Receiving Peace: Jesus told His disciples that He gives peace of a different quality than the world gives. (John 14:27; John 16:33)
  3. Experiencing Peace: We can, however, rob ourselves of the peace that Christ offers. (Colossians 3:15; Philippians 4:6-7)

Pastor Micah shared a Christmas message that he believes to be perfectly timed for this year! Christmas can be a time of fear? It certainly was for Joseph! Matthew 1:18-25 looks at Joseph's response to Mary's pregnancy. We can learn that through Joseph’s story that even in their fear, uncertainty, and difficult decisions that they can trust God and find hope in Him to save them and to be with them.

God gave Joseph two reasons to have hope in his fear, both found in the name of Jesus (These two reasons apply to us today as well):

  1. Jesus means "God Saves"
  2. The name 'Immanuel,' which means "God With Us"

Pastor Micah finished our current series called "Joshua: Be Strong & Courageous." The book of Joshua is an exciting looking at ancient Israelite history; a pivotal era when the chosen people finally begin claiming the Promised Land after centuries of waiting, slavery, and wandering in the wilderness. Joshua was an intimidated new leader, replacing the legendary Moses, in a book that will challenge people to grow in their faith in God, challenge them to act, and call them to a decision in Christ.

In week 3 we looked at Joshua chapter 24 . Throughout this chapter we're decades removed from the first two parts of this series. God has been doing incredible things, but the Israelites had their idols hidden away. Joshua told them it was time to decide to be all in for God:

  1. God is faithful
  2. It's time to choose
  3. Don't just say the words

In week 2 we looked at the story of Rahab from Joshua chapter 2, and how Joshua responded after God delivered them Jericho in chapter 7. Because of her faith, Rahab was able to act, but because Joshua grew too comfortable and confident in his own abilities he failed to act. These stories are powerful reminder to always return to God:

  1. Rahab knew God is supreme
  2. Rahab acted in faith
  3. Joshua failed to act

  1. I (God) will be with you
    • The reassurance that God is with us
  2. Obedience brings success
    • That our obedience to God brings success-spiritual success
  3. Study brings confidence
    • And that study of God's Word brings us confidence

Pastor Micah (Woody from 'Toy Story') shared a message entitled "Monster in Me." He took time to discuss a battle that each and every person faces. We're constantly in a battle which starts in our mind, a battle of our sinful nature (our flesh) against the Spirit of God that lives within us. By looking at Paul's teaching in Romans chapter 7 and 8 we learn how 'to discover what to do when we do what we don't want to do.' We must learn to feed the Holy Spirit within us, and starve out the sinful nature within us.

Bottom Line: With Jesus, you are no longer a slave to the monster living inside of you. Feed the Spirit and daily defeat the monster!

Pastor Micah shared a message entitled "Outcast" as we continue on in our Mission's Month at Chisholm Assembly of God. Statistics say that only 17% of people 'enjoy hanging out with people not like them.' That's a sad statistic when we think about how Jesus taught us to treat people that are not like us. By looking at Mark 2:13-17 we can pull out 3 different perspectives on how to interact with people who are not like us. The first perspective being that of the Pharisees (religious leaders of that day). The second perspective being what we learn from Jesus's response to the Pharisees.

3 ways that the perspectives of the Pharisees and Jesus differ when it comes to people:

  1. Avoid Sinners vs Recline with Sinners
    • Pharisees said "Other people will bring you down." Jesus said "Accept outcasts and sinners."
  2. The Kingdom is Exclusive vs The Kingdom is Inclusive
    • Pharisees said "Only the best and rule followers get into God's kingdom." Jesus said that "No one is exempt from the love and grace of God."
  3. Sinners make you unclean vs Jesus makes sinners clean
    • Pharisees said "Watch out they will contaminate you." Jesus said "I will shower them with love and grace."

Bottom Line: Jesus came to Earth for people who were nothing like Him.

Pastor Micah shared a message entitled "Learn, Pray, Support, Go" for our 2021 Mission's Sunday. He spent time throughout the message looking at how each of these aspects of mission's are so important. As a church body, families, and individuals we must all continue to focus on mission's locally, regionally, nationally, and globally. Jesus gave us the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20) to take the Gospel message to all people across the whole globe. Then He also explained how we're to go about accomplishing the Great Commission in Acts 1:7-8 through the empowering, equipping, and enabling of the Holy Spirit.

Missions is a major emphasis of Chisholm Assembly of God!

Bottom Line: Missions is the heart beat of God!

Pastor Micah concluded our 'Back to Church Series' called "Hope is Here!" Throughout this series we have focused on the Hope that we have because of Jesus Christ's presence in our lives! Throughout this four week series we will talk about how Jesus has given us hope for the weary, the broken, the underdog, and the doubter.

When life gets tough, it is easy to doubt that things can get better. The disciples had watched their friend be crucified and buried in a tomb, and they were devastated. Even though others had claimed to see Jesus resurrected from the dead, Thomas did not want to get his hopes up, only to be disappointed again. He doubted their story. It was not until Thomas saw the scars on Jesus’ hands and side that he was filled with hope again. Some of us have experienced such tragedy and pain that we too struggle with doubt.

Think: There is evidence that Jesus has risen from the dead and is at work in the world today.

Feel: Jesus is not afraid of my doubt and will meet me right where I am.

Do: Have the courage to trust that Jesus has overcome death and look for evidence all around.

Bottom Line: We can always have hope because Jesus is present; and when Jesus is present, hope is present!

Guest Speaker Dan Herod shared a very encouraging and challenging message with us this week! Through his transparency of using stories from his life, he shared with us about how he had to learn to overcome two common lies that the world tries to convince us of today. By seeking the Lord, and diving into God's word for direction and understanding he was able to let go of those lies, and cling to the truth found in God's Word. Here are the two lies he shared about along with the truth we find from God's Word:

  1. Lie: Things people say, "God will never give you more than you can handle."
    • TRUTH: What God says, "He will never give you more than He can handle." (John 16:33)
  2. Lie: Things people say, "Everything happens for a reason."
    • TRUTH: What God says, "He doesn't make everything happen for a reason. He gives a purpose to everything that happens." (Romans 8:28)

Bottom Line: "Time heals nothing. What you do with that time can heal everything."

Throughout this four week series we will talk about how Jesus has given us hope for the weary, the broken, the underdog, and the doubter.

David was only a young boy when he decided to go toe-to-toe with a Philistine giant. Everyone else was too afraid to fight because it seemed like more than they could overcome. They were right. The only way this battle would be won was by trusting God to intervene. On his own, David was an underdog, but with God, he was an overcomer. There is no enemy you can face in this life that God cannot give you the victory over. But you must trust in Him. When the Church comes together in great faith, there is nothing it cannot do. The Israelites were fearful until David stepped up in faith. Sometimes a community of believers needs someone to go first. That step of faith can ignite others to follow.

Think: My God is more powerful than any force in the universe. Together we can do amazing things.

Feel: If God is with me, there is nothing I cannot overcome.

Do: Choose faith over fear.

Bottom Line: We can always have hope because Jesus is present; and when Jesus is present, hope is present!

Throughout this four week series we will talk about how Jesus has given us hope for the weary, the broken, the underdog, and the doubter.

There is no worse feeling than when our sin finds us out. Being exposed can leave us feeling broken and ashamed. Oftentimes, this can be rock bottom for us. Many of us can relate to the woman caught in adultery. We may fail in different ways, but they have the same result. The woman was going to pay the price for her sin—until she meets Jesus. What hope she must have felt as the stones began to fall at the feet of her accusers, and she was given a second chance to “go and sin no more.” If you feel broken today, hope is here. Jesus is offering forgiveness and a fresh start.

Think: There is nothing I can do that Jesus cannot forgive. Because I have been forgiven, I should extend forgiveness to others.

Feel: Jesus loves me just as he finds me, but he loves me too much to leave me there.

Do: Offer the brokenness of your life to Christ and choose obedience. Forgive others and welcome them into the family of faith.

Bottom Line: We can always have hope because Jesus is present; and when Jesus is present, hope is present!

Throughout this four week series we will talk about how Jesus has given us hope for the weary, the broken, the underdog, and the doubter.

We were created by God to live with a healthy cadence in life. However, far too many of us are living without margin in every area of our lives. We fill our calendars. We can’t say no. We live with a harmful drive to achieve. We have lost hope that it will slow down anytime soon. Jesus offers us such a gift in saying that he has come to give us rest.

Think: I don’t have to live each day so exhausted by simply trying to keep up. I can allow others to help me.

Feel: I am a 'human being' and not a 'human doing.' I am loved by God and that is enough.

Do: Practice saying “no” and receive the grace of God while investing in relationships to make you healthy.

Bottom Line: We can always have hope because Jesus is present; and when Jesus is present, hope is present!

Pastor Micah concluded our current series "Mirrored." Through this series we have taken time to look at the attributes of God that are mirrored in us. God made us in His image which means He has placed some of his attributes in us. We will take a take a deeper look at these attributes to guide us into having a stronger connection with our Savior. Here is the key point from week 3: God has given us each an irreplaceable role to be a part of one united body.

We all have gifts that are given to us by God and we need to use them to expand His Kingdom.

“You see, our true places as people in God’s Story are as diverse and unique as wildflowers in a field. No two look quite the same.” (Staci Eldridge, "Captivating")

Bottom Line: As a part of the body of Christ, we each have an irreplaceable role.

Here is the key point from week 2: As followers of Jesus, we are called to different battles to fight for justice and compassion.

What do we fight for?

  • We fight for justice and peace

Who do we fight against?

  1. We fight against the enemy
  2. We fight against ourselves

When we embrace justice and compassion, we become the warriors God has called each one of us to be and fight to bring His Kingdom here on Earth.

In week one we are looking at how we are called to be holy just as Christ is Holy.

How do we live holy lives that show God's glory?

  1. Prepare our minds for action and self-control. (Ephesians 6-Armor of God, James 2:26)
  2. We need to look forward to what's ahead.
  3. Lastly, we need to be different.

“How little people know who think that holiness is dull. When one meets the real thing, it is irresistible.” (C.S. Lewis, Letters to an American Lady)

This week Pastor Micah continued on in our current series "New Mind New Thoughts" with part 2 'Set Your Sights on Things Above.' This week's focus was found by looking at Jesus's example of what it means to "live resurrected." Pastor Micah shared 4 ways in which we can live a life today that is actively "living resurrected."

  1. Leave the Tomb (Philippians 3:12-14)
  2. Serve Others (Jesus calls us to live our lives to love and serve one another)
  3. Let the Holy Spirit Enable You (Allowing the Holy Spirit to lead. direct, and empower you to do the work He's calling you to do)
  4. Look Forward to Heaven (Revelation 21:1-7; Psalm 119:11)

Bottom Line: Setting our sights on things above draws us near to Jesus and brings us a willingness to live a resurrected life.

Pastor Micah started a new series this week called "New Mind New Thoughts." The first part of this series is entitled 'Fix Your Thoughts.' We hope that this series will help us create a filter for how we think and how we can have minds that point to Jesus. The way you think impacts how you view what’s going on around you. What our hope is for this series is that our mindset would be focused on Jesus.

This week we looked in particular at what it means to fix your thoughts on Jesus. The main portion of scripture we looked at was Philippians 4:6-9. The 3 main points we pulled from this passage that help us keep our eyes fixed on Jesus are:

  1. Prayer (v.6-7)
  2. Think (v.8) "How can we have thoughts if we don't think, right?"
  3. Do (v.9) "Our thoughts lead to our actions, and vice versa."

Bottom line: Prayer helps us find peace and helps us focus our thoughts on Jesus. Thinking about Jesus helps guide us to doing what Jesus calls us to do in Scripture. And our actions give us thoughts we can remember as we fix our thoughts on Jesus.

Pastor Micah continues our current series "Contagious Christianity" with part 2 'How?' This week Pastor Micah discusses how we can strive to become the most contagious christians possible! Here are 3 simple things keys to help us make a lasting impact on those around us:

  1. Know What You Believe (1 Peter 3:15; Matthew 7:24-27)
  2. Live What You Believe (James 1:22-25; Psalm 119:1-8; Matthew 5:14-16)
  3. Share What You Believe (Romans 10:14-15)

One Big Take Away: Christianity that’s really contagious takes courage!

One Big Question: When it comes to your faith, are you trying to look good, or are you truly looking to impact those around you?

Pastor Micah started a new series called "Contagious Christianity" this week. This week Pastor Micah talks about what it means to have a contagious faith. But what if Christianity ought to be contagious? What if our love for Jesus Christ became so contagious that it couldn’t help but be spread wherever we went? Today's message had 3 main takeaways for each of us to consider:

  1. Every Soul Matters to God (Luke 19:10)
  2. Create a Daily Awareness (Let our world's collide, no more compartmentalizing our faith from the rest of our lives. 2 Cor. 5:17; Eph. 4:22-24)
  3. Am I a Christian that we want being Contagious? (Matt. 23:15)

Our relationship with God is all about becoming more like Jesus in all things, at all places, and with all people!

Here is an excerpt from Pastor Micah's closing portion of the message. "We have the potential to be a contagious body of believers that spread the love of Jesus everywhere we go, but I believe we all need to get back to the simple truth that every soul matters to God. Then we need to allow our worlds to collide each day and be the kind of Christian that Jesus wants to be contagious. When this happens, lives will be changed, and heaven will rejoice that the ones Jesus came to seek will be saved."

Pastor Micah shared a message entitled "Hide & Seek" this week to help remind each of us why the Bible and scripture are truly so important to us today. He pulled out a few key words from 2 Timothy 3:16-17; profitable, complete, equipped that help us understand the importance of God's Word! Only through spending time in God's Word can we truly grow into the man or woman of God that He is calling us to be. Spending time in His Word and allowing the Holy Spirit to work in our lives is how we become most fully equipped in our lives, and effectively reaching those around us.

Pastor Micah shared four things the sufficient Word of God is used for to make us complete believers and to equip us in every good work:

  1. Teaching
  2. Rebuking
  3. Correcting
  4. Training

Check out this original game of "Hide & Seek" as King David shares his heart in Psalm 119:10-11. “I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands. I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you” (NIV).King David was continually seeking God with his whole heart, and the way he was doing that was by hiding (or storing) God's Word in His heart. That is Pastor Micah's prayer for each and every person.

God our Heavenly Father:

  1. God the Father, delights in His children and sings over us.
  2. God the Father is transforming us.
  3. God the Father is holding us close.

Pastor Micah shared a message about the role of compassion in our faith today. We looked at how in the Old Testament God continually kept His promises to the Israelites by showing them compassion over and over again when they would turn away from the Lord. In the New Testament we looked at numerous stories about how Jesus was moved by compassion to help those in need that He came across as He traveled around. Finally, we talked about how compassion should put our faith into action. Meaning that when we see a need we don't simply just acknowledge it, but we help them meet the need or connect them with someone or an organization that can help them with their needs.

The three main points of this week's message are:

  1. God is compassionate, and will always keeps His promises.
  2. Jesus was moved by compassion when He saw people in need.
  3. May we be people who are moved by compassion to put our faith into action!

For our Family Service on Memorial Day weekend we took some time to look at the story of David & Goliath. We looked at how David defeated a physical giant named Goliath. This story serves as an example of how we can defeat our own giants (challenges, sin, obstacles, etc.) that we face in our lives.

When David stepped foot on the Battlefield, what set him apart from every other man that day?  What changed his perception?  Why did he charge into battle while everyone else was filled with fear?

So what should you do when you face a giant today? Follow the example that David set for us:

  1. Trust in the Lord-Remember His Faithfulness
  2. Do not fear opposition even when it seems stronger or better supported
  3. Be confident that God can use what you have at hand to overcome any obstacles you face

He focused on a passage from Paul in Ephesians 6:10-20 where he talks about the importance of putting on the full armor of God, and standing firm in prayer. 3 points Kevin pulled out from the passage on the importance of prayer are:

  1. Pray in the Spirit at all times.
  2. Pray for those standing down the line beside you with perseverance.
  3. Pray for your pastors and leaders to have boldness in declaring the Gospel.

Pastor Micah concluded our most recent series called "Now What?" We just celebrated the greatest day in history 6 weeks ago, Resurrection Sunday! If Jesus died and was resurrected, "Now what?" How should I live if that is true? What am I supposed to do now? The "Now What?" series is four weeks of looking at the truth that we have a place in God's big story by looking at four different stories from Jesus' time on Earth after His resurrection and before His ascension.

This week we look at the last exchange between Jesus and His disciples before He ascended into Heaven in Acts chapter 1. Jesus told the disciples to stay in Jerusalem, and wait for the Holy Spirit which God was about to send. The Holy Spirit was going to come, and empower the disciples and early Church to reach people with the hope of Jesus. This is the power they needed to begin working on the Great Commission of talking the Gospel message to the ends of the Earth. Jesus told them that the Holy Spirit will empower them to be His witnesses in Jerusalem, in all of Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the Earth. Today, the Holy Spirit continues to empower us as believers to take the Gospel message into our local communities, broader areas of our state and nation, and throughout the world.

Bottom line: The Holy Spirit is the battery pack that empowers us, and unlocks our potential to reach the world for Jesus Christ. So one last time, here is the question for this week:

Are you in? Are you going to be witnesses? Are you going to make disciples?

Pastor Micah shared a Mother's Day message entitled "Lessons From Hannah." We look at 5 different lessons that we can learn from Hannah about being a wonderful mom! Hannah was 1) a woman of prayer, 2) a woman of faith, 3) a woman of sacrifice, 4) a woman of thanksgiving, and 5) a woman of industry & maternal love. Hannah is such a wonderful example of not only what it means to be a great mother, but a great father, friend, and fellow believer in Christ!

Beyond sharing a message about motherhood, we also had a fun morning giving away gifts, praying for, and blessing the mothers from our church. We're so grateful to all of the mother's, grandmothers, step-mothers. adopted mothers, spiritual mothers, aunts, and ladies who fill a valuable role in the lives of children they interact with!

Pastor Micah continued our current series called "Now What?" We just celebrated the greatest day in history nearly a month ago, Resurrection Sunday!

This week we look at the story of Jesus asking Peter if he truly loves Him from John 21:15-19. The first week Jesus shared how we're all a part of the Big Story. The second week, Jesus challenges us with the task of making disciples throughout the whole world. This week we look at how there's a big problem we all need to address in our lives and that's sin. Sin is what separated us from Jesus, but He offers us His grace and mercy. By His grace and mercy He helps us to grow beyond our sin as we pursue Him wholeheartedly in our lives!

Bottom line: The only way to live for Him, the only way to deal with our sins, the only way to live out the task He has called us to is to walk with Him. So once again here is the question for this week:

Are you in? Are you ready to confront and address the sin in your life?

The "Now What?" series is four weeks of looking at the truth that we have a place in God's big story by looking at four different stories from Jesus' time on Earth after His resurrection and before His ascension.

This week we look at the story of Jesus giving the disciples the Great Commission which we find in Matthew chapter 28:16-20.  The first week Jesus shared how we're all a part of the Big Story. This week, Jesus challenges us with the task of making disciples throughout the whole world. Not simply looking to convert people. but looking to disciple people "as we go" about our daily lives as Jesus challenged us to do in the Great Commission. He also promised that He would never leave us alone, but surely He would be with us even to the end of the ages. Shortly after Jesus's ascension into Heaven we see the coming of the Holy Spirit.

So here in the big question we all must answer this week in regards to making disciples:

Are you in?

The "Now What?" series is four weeks of looking at the truth that we have a place in God's big story by looking at four different stories from Jesus' time on Earth after His resurrection and before His ascension.

This week we look at the story of Jesus taking a walk on the same day He was resurrected from the dead. In Luke chapter 24 we read about how Jesus joins a few men who were walking on their way to Emmaus. Throughout this conversation Jesus reminds these men about the big story God has been writing since creation. The men were focused on the events of the last few days, but Jesus starts by going all the way back to the promises of God in Genesis. Jesus invites these men to be a part of God's big story, and He's inviting us to be a part of God's big story in 2021.

So here in the big question we all must answer:
Are you in?

Pastor Micah shared a powerful Easter celebration message called "Hope of Easter." His message focused on the hope that we have in our lives today because of Jesus' death & resurrection roughly 2,000 years ago!

In John chapter 20 we see what happens immediately following Jesus' resurrection that Sunday morning. Just think about the roll coaster of emotions that Mary Magdalene had been on the past 72 hours. Everything she hoped in and believed had been taken away from her with Jesus' arrest and death upon the cross. Then when she thinks things couldn't get any worse she shows up at Jesus' tomb to see the stone rolled away. Jesus' body is gone! After alerting the disciples, and having them come check out the tomb she finds herself sitting there alone again trying to figure out what has happened. In her brokenness and hopelessness Jesus appears to her. At the uttering of one word, her name, all hope is restored in Mary's life.

If you're looking and longing for hope today, search no more! Hope is available for you today through a relationship with Jesus Christ because of His life, death, and resurrection! So i leave you with this one last question to consider:

Do you have the hope of Jesus in your life today?

Pastor Micah wrapped up our series “Death & Life” where we focused on the story of Lazarus. This week we look at how Jesus challenges us to “roll away the stone!” Here a couple comments from this weeks message that really hit home the main points of this weeks message from John 11:17-44.

🔥 If you are in a relationship with Jesus, then there is no such thing as hopelessness!

🔥 It wasn’t about the fact that Jesus has the power to resurrect. It was about the fact that Jesus was the resurrection. Jesus is the resurrection!

🔥 It doesn’t matter as much about what Jesus can do, but it mattered more than anything else that Jesus was and is the resurrection and life!

🔥 Even now, God can bring life into our situations. Even now, Jesus can breathe life into our existences. Even now, the Holy Spirit can create life out of death!

🔥 It’s one thing to know that God exists. It’s another thing entirely to know that He cares!

🔥I want to suggest to you today that God can turn what you’re going through— He can turn the most hopeless, death-filled situation—into a story of life. You just need to roll the stone away!

🔥 Jesus is calling for you. Do you believe in who He is?

🔥Lastly, Jesus is still: Our Redeemer, Our Creator, Our Savior, and the Resurrection and the Life!

Pastor Micah started a new series this week called "Death & Life" which focuses on the story of Lazarus. This series looks at the death that comes into our lives, and when situations don't go the way they expect. Then, it looks at the amazing power of God who is able to resurrect any dead situation and breathe life into any circumstance.

This week in week 1 we looked at how 'Jesus waited' to come see Lazarus when Martha and Mary reached out to Him for help. Why did Jesus wait? Because of His deep love that He had for His friends Martha, Mary, and Lazarus. Martha and Mary could have easily asked Jesus "If only You would have come?" How many times have we found ourselves asking that same question? Jesus didn't sow up late, but rather right on time! Our main passage today comes from John 11:1-21.

Pastor Micah finished up our current series called "Drop It." Throughout this series we have grappled with the importance of "dropping" certain things from our life in order to find the most satisfying life possible through a relationship with Jesus. This week we learn by looking at the life of Paul.

The week we talked about the importance of "dropping our rights." The bottom line is that Jesus gave us His rights so you could be righteous. Pastor Micah shared 3 reasons why we don't need to fear giving up total authority and control to God:
1. Jesus will not ask you to do something He hasn't first done Himself.
2. Laying down your rights turns your focus from yourself to others.
3. Putting things in God's place will leave you displaced.

Pastor Micah continued on in our current series called "Drop It." Throughout this series we will grapple with the importance of "dropping" certain things from our life in order to find the most satisfying life possible through a relationship with Jesus. This series examines the life of three prominent New Testament characters who "dropped it" all to follow Jesus. This week we learn by looking at the life of Peter.

The week we talked about the importance of "dropping our plans." We must remember that God's plans are always greater than our plans. Pastor Micah shared a few ways to help us drop our plans, and follow God's plans. We need to give God our everyday decisions, give God the big decisions in our lives, and follow Jesus into the unknown! Ultimately we must ask our selves this question when we make our decisions, "Will this exalt Christ in my life?"

This week we talked about the importance of 'dropping our past.' We can only get past our past if we're willing to give God our present. We must learn to recognize our past, and replace it with the truth of God’s Word.

Pastor Micah talks about Hope in light of the many challenges we face in our lives today. The Apostle Paul shares with us in 2 Corinthians chapter 1 that there are 5 things we can learn about hope through our life's struggles:

  1. Hardships are not unusual.

  2. God grows us in our struggles.

  3. We serve a God of the Impossible.

  4. God has promised to stick with us.

  5. We all get to rejoice together after the deliverance.

Pastor Micah shared a message focused on the unending, never stopping love of God! He used the story of Hosea and Gomer to see how God was trying to help the Israelites get back on track with the Lord. They had become adulterous towards God, and began to search the world for love, joy, and contentment. Many times we do the same in our world today so hopefully this will be a challenge for each of us to look within ourselves to see where our love truly lies. God desires to walk in relationship with each of us, and He will do whatever He needs to help us understand His great love He has for us. The main text came form Hosea chapter 1 & 3.

This week Pastor Micah continued in our current series called "Home Improvement." Throughout this series we will focus on the importance of the family structure. Scripture teaches us that God created us to function within the building blocks of family units. This week the focus is on the fact that our kids, and those we are discipling, need us to step up. People are going to follow someone, so who are we going to allow them to follow? Paul challenged us to encourage others to follow us, as we follow the example of Christ. What does that look like for us today? Are we stepping up to lead the children and students of this younger generation? Or are we coming up with excuses for why we're not the right people to lead them?

The two questions we need to always ask ourselves are: 1-Are they lost? 2-How can I be a good witness? It's not about an "us & them" attitude, but rather about a "us & then" attitude.
