In this bonus podcast episode, D.J. is speaking with his friend, Josh Powell. As lifelong Southern Baptists, they both care deeply about the work of the Southern Baptist Convention. He is being nominated as president of the SBC, and in this episode, he shares about his journey, his motives, and what they are both most excited about in Baptist work.
Studies from the Barna Group and Lifeway Research show that 70–75% of Christian youth disengage from their faith and church after high school. In light of this, it feels like an important question to consider whether they will attend a college that will make living a life of faith easier or more challenging. Join Pastor D.J. Horton as he talks with Dr. Evans Whitaker, the twelfth president of Anderson University. Dr. Whitaker has a heart for Christian higher education, and he received the Order of the Palmetto from Governor Henry McMaster—South Carolina’s highest civilian honor, presented to those who demonstrate extraordinary life achievement, service, and contributions of national or statewide significance. Listen in as he shares why college is so much more than just producing graduates; it’s producing professionals of depth and great character.
What is true success in this life? If it’s something that forever feels just out of reach in your own life, don’t miss this conversation that Pastor D.J. Horton has with Clyde Christensen, the current associate head football coach at Appalachian State, who has also coached the likes of Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Andrew Luck, Marvin Harrison, and Jameis Winston during his nearly 50-year career. Adopted after being born to an unwed teen mom, Clyde would never say that he’s a man who has “made it” because he coached in the NFL. Success for him has always been connected to helping people grow, trusting the Lord, doing his best at his work, and finding joy wherever God leads him. Where God has you today matters. Are you making the most of it?
Knowing what to do after high school can feel overwhelming for young people as they try to figure out what’s next in life. Should they pursue a trade? Go to college? If so, what kind of college? Join Pastor D.J. Horton and Dr. Dondi Costin, President of Liberty University, for a conversation on the value and importance of Christian higher education. Dondi, a retired Major General whose military career culminated at the Pentagon, where he served as the eighteenth Air Force Chief of Chaplains, has long had a passion for helping young people discern their calling. College shapes our children physically, mentally, emotionally, and, most importantly, spiritually, so it’s vital to consider whether or not the college they attend will equip them to be stronger spiritually and more committed to a biblical worldview.
Government is a gift from God. Yet we live in challenging times when some would consider “politics” a bad word or a topic to be completely avoided. But we, as believers, need to be both politically informed and involved. Join Pastor D.J. Horton as he talks with Trey Gowdy—attorney, author, Fox News Host, and former congressman—about faith, serving in the public square, and what it means to leverage our lives, our gifts, our abilities, and even our citizenship for God’s glory. Because it is good for people of faith to care deeply about the civics of their nation, and we can be people who engage civilly and live authentically.
Scripture calls us to forgive, but what if your pain makes forgiveness seem impossible? Don’t miss Dr. D.J. Horton speaking with Reverend Anthony B. Thompson, a pastor who astounded the city of Charleston and our nation when he openly forgave the gunman who murdered his wife, Myra, in the 2015 Emanuel AME Church shooting. He went on to write the memoir, “Called to Forgive,” and almost 11 years after the incident, Rev. Thompson is on D.J.’s podcast sharing openly about his faith journey, his marriage to Myra, his wrestling with the Lord, and, ultimately, the undeniable power of forgiveness. His life is evidence that the difficult decision to forgive can become the key to radical change—in your life, in the lives of others, and even in a city.
There is a great deal of emphasis on helping young men and women start strong in their careers or ministry, but we must not forget the importance of calling and equipping them to finish strong. Leaders can also struggle with finding their identity in their ministry, leading them to stay too long instead of passing on the baton. Join Pastor D.J. Horton for a conversation on this topic with Dr. Danny Akin, President of Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, North Carolina. Dr. Akin is set to retire from his presidency this year, a position he has held since 2004, and D.J. is quick to share that Danny is a man who began well, stayed faithful, and is finishing strong. In a world where we see people starting out with incredible gifts and abilities that lead to fruitful ministries, only to have their lives and ministries marred by scandal at the very end, this is a discussion every leader needs to hear.
The world’s greatest problem is lostness, and we as believers have the answer—the gospel. But how do we encourage more believers not only to go on short-term mission trips, but to dedicate seasons of their lives to living in places where the gospel has not yet penetrated the culture? Join Pastor D.J. Horton and Dr. Paul Chitwood, President of the International Mission Board, for a conversation about all that the IMB does to support missionaries, as well as how to stir people’s hearts for the nations. No follower of Jesus is excluded from the Great Commission, and we all have a part to play—from young men and women training to go on daring expeditions, to everyday people mobilizing trips through funding, to retirees leveraging seasons of their lives.
Children are influenced by a wide range of people in their lives, such as pastors, teachers, coaches, camp counselors, and church ministry volunteers. But the most influential people in most children’s lives are their parents, and one of the greatest stewardships of a parent’s life is shaping the children God blesses them with. Join Pastor D.J. Horton and his wife, Laurel, as they talk about the joys and challenges of parenthood. With seven children of their own and 22 years of parenting experience, you don’t want to miss the wisdom they have to share or their honesty about their struggles.
When it comes to helping people, one of the groups that can struggle the most is actually pastors. The burnout rate in pastoral ministry is extraordinarily high, and with the average age of pastors in North America being their late fifties, not only do we need more men entering pastoral ministry, but we need more pastors staying, thriving, and enjoying leading a local church. One of the keys to longevity is found in the power of pastoral friendships. Listen in as D.J. talks to four of his best friends in local ministry, Pastors Wayne Bray, Mike Harder, Cory Horton, and Josh Powell, all of whom lead churches in the upstate of South Carolina. Every pastor needs the camaraderie of brothers who understand the joys and struggles of being in the trenches of ministry, and that takes intentionality.
Spring is upon us, and that means it is almost one of Pastor D.J. Horton’s favorite times of the year—turkey hunting season! In this week’s episode of the podcast, D.J. is talking with Mark Prudhomme, a true legend in the field of calling turkeys, ducks, and even owl hooting. Mark is a 17-time Grand National Calling Champion and a member of the National Wild Turkey Federation Hall of Fame. If you love turkey hunting or just hunting in general, you won’t want to miss their discussion. Mark shares about his start in turkey calling, the great opportunities he has had over the years, the relationships he has formed, and his thoughts on the future of hunting in America. When it comes to hunting turkey, D.J. will tell you there’s nothing else like it.
The Great Commission isn’t only for pastors and missionaries; it is a call for every follower of Jesus. But how does that play out in the life of an average Christian? Join Pastor D.J. Horton as he talks with Vance Pitman, Founder and President of Vance Pitman Ministries and Former President of Send Network. Vance shares how God transformed him into a man whose heart beats to see lost people come into the kingdom after reading about Jesus’ heart for reaching entire cities. From his days of church planting in Las Vegas to how we can all live on mission right where we are, this episode is for every believer who wants to recognize that every moment of our lives is pregnant with possibility to join in God’s supernatural activity.
In 2018, the Southern Baptist Convention came out with a statement declaring that the special needs population is an unreached people group. This is because fewer than 2% of these families attend church. Most churches are woefully unprepared to minister to families who have children with special needs—a statement that isn’t a criticism, but the heart of why this episode matters so greatly. Dr. D.J. Horton is talking with Laura Dyar, All-Access Director at Church at The Mill and mother to a son with special needs. This ministry seeks to disciple children with special needs and disabilities in accessible and meaningful ways—helping them grow in their knowledge and love for God, while allowing their parents to serve and worship without worry. Listen in as D.J. and Laura share why this ministry is so vital and how your church can start building one, as well. From first steps to challenges you may face, this episode will equip you to begin to better encourage and help this community.
There is no shortage of discussion among Christians about the need for the next generation of leaders inside the local church. Not only do we need more pastors, but we also need more men and women answering the call to vocational ministry at every level of church leadership. And while some hear the call to church leadership early in life and attend college for training, that is only one of the paths into ministry. Join Dr. D.J. Horton for a conversation with two pastors on his staff at Church at The Mill - Kyle Benefield, a former director of operations for Chick-fil-A, who is now an Associate Kids’ Pastor, and Will Shuler, a former football coach, who is now a Worship Pastor. Though they experienced success and enjoyment in their chosen secular fields, they could not ignore the Lord’s call to serve the church vocationally, and they are so glad they chose obedience to Him. From having honest conversations with their wives about making huge life changes to trusting that the Lord could use them and would provide for them, this episode will be an encouragement to anyone considering leaving a secular profession to enter into full-time service in the Kingdom.
In her early 20’s, Catherine Renfro received a phone call that she will never forget. In broken hopelessness, her brother, Barrett, called out with despair before taking his own life. She and her father rushed to his home only to find out that he was no longer with them. While suicide is an incredibly difficult and painful topic, Christians must not neglect to speak into subjects like this in tender, honest, and Jesus-centered ways. We invite you to join Pastor D.J. Horton as he talks with Catherine about her book, “Hope, Hurt, and Healing: Experiencing Jesus in the Wake of Suicide,” and the season of grief she and her family went through–a season that, sadly, hundreds of thousands of people endure every year in America. Even in the midst of anger, suffering, and guilt, Catherine shares that Christ never left her, and she is so grateful to be able to offer others the comfort He has offered her. Scars may last a lifetime, but Catherine’s life is a testimony of how God takes our hurt, heals our wounds, and offers us hope that we can go and share with others.
Are you frustrated in a place of singleness? Do you need godly wisdom when it comes to dating and marriage in this day and age? What should you even look for in a spouse? Don’t miss this encouraging and candid conversation between D.J. Horton and Ben Stuart, pastor of Passion City Church in Washington, DC, and author of “Single, Dating, Engaged, Married: Navigating Life and Love in the Modern Age.” In a world that can feel so disconnected, Ben shares how to navigate the four stages of a relational life and embrace the intentions and truths God has established for each one. Whatever season you are in, whether you’ve never dated or you are already married and want to know how to be a blessing to singles and young married couples, this episode has practical wisdom for you.
If you want to talk football, Bob Sanders is your man. He started coaching as a high school assistant in 1976 and went on to work with colleges and in the NFL, including serving as the Miami Dolphins’ linebackers coach, the Green Bay Packers’ defensive ends coach, followed by coaching roles with the Buffalo Bills, the Oakland Raiders, the Arizona Cardinals, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This former NFL defensive coordinator has joined the App State Football staff as their senior defensive assistant, and now he’s sitting down with Dr. D.J. Horton to discuss his nearly 50 years of experience with football and how a relationship with Jesus has impacted him as a coach, husband, and father. Whether you are investing in young people through coaching, teaching, or other forms of ministry, or even if you simply love football, we hope you’ll listen and be encouraged by Bob’s career and his walk with Christ.
One of the tenets of Christianity is that every human being is an image bearer of God, and every person has worth and dignity at the moment of conception. That means we should have a heart for the unborn, protecting life and ministering to those who end up in crisis pregnancies. Join Dr. D.J. Horton for a conversation with Alexia Newman, the Executive Director of Carolina Pregnancy Center. Alexia shares about how she got started 36 years ago with the pregnancy center and how the Lord has helped it grow. She and D.J. also talk about the love, support, and discipleship offered by the ministry to both mothers and fathers alike, as well as the challenges the ministry faces in our culture of death, and how we can be unified as believers when it comes to supporting moms and choosing life.
It makes an undeniable difference in our homes and churches when men fulfill their God-given roles. Of course, we don’t just need everyday men to step up and be biblical men; we also need them to lead other men to embrace their role as spiritual leaders. But how does that happen? Join Pastor D.J. Horton and Chuckie Stevens, author of “You Are the Man” and small group leader at Church at The Mill, for an encouraging message on calling men off the sidelines spiritually. They discuss the power, purpose, and practical steps of discipleship, as well as how God loves to call ordinary men to do extraordinary things. Because men are called to be more than just good dads and moral husbands, they’re called to be spiritual leaders.
How do you get people to trust you as a leader and actually have them want to be a part of what you’re doing? There is a difference between trying to lead through manipulation and coercion and leading by building momentum. Join Pastor D.J. Horton and Jarrett Stephens, Senior Pastor of Champion Forest in Northwest Houston, for a conversation geared to help you grow as a leader—whether you’re leading in a boardroom, a classroom, on the ballfield, or in a church. You will hear wisdom from their many combined years of experience, as well as insight from the journeys God used to shape them for their callings. Whether you have your sights set on future roles of leadership or you feel stuck where you’re currently leading, we believe this episode will be a great encouragement to you.
Someone once said that whoever wants the next generation the most will get them. This is a sobering thought, especially since we know that the enemy is real, and he wants to steal, kill, and destroy the futures of our children. So how do we best invest in the legacy of God in the next generation? How do we help them move beyond saying a prayer of salvation to living a life of faith in action? Join Dr. D.J Horton and Dr. Tripp Atkinson, Church at The Mill’s NextGen Pastor, for a conversation on how we battle for the hearts, minds, and futures of our children. They discuss some of the biggest struggles of this generation, as well as how we can encourage their spiritual formation.
The new year is upon us, and you are probably making resolutions surrounding areas like health and finances. But how are you planning for growth and change in your spiritual life? Join Pastor D.J. Horton and his guest, Andy Guastaferro, the newly appointed president of Blue Letter Bible, for a practical and encouraging conversation on how to grow in your love for Scripture and develop better Bible study habits as we head into 2026. Whether you are a long-time believer wanting to learn how to dig even deeper in God’s Word, a newer believer who feels like you don’t know where to start, or even a parent wondering how to encourage your children to dive into Scripture, this episode has something for you.
One of the struggles in our churches is getting men to worship. The reasons can be many - pride, a struggle with surrender, embarrassment over a lack of singing skills, or just not seeing why it matters. But we were all created by God to worship Him through lifting our voices in song. So how do we get men to engage more fully? Join Pastor D.J. Horton and well-known worship artists Shane & Shane for this encouraging conversation. Shane Barnard and Shane Everett share their testimonies, as well as how the Lord birthed a love of worship in them, and how we can foster that love in our own lives. This isn’t about guilting you to worship so you can be a better Christian. Singing God’s Word is transformative, and the blessings of worship aren’t something you want to miss out on.
Dementia is a heartbreaking diagnosis to receive, and it starts a journey that should never be faced alone. In today’s episode, Pastor D.J. Horton and his guests, Chara Hosom and Tom Sinclair, members of his church and leaders in advocating for those with dementia, discuss both the challenging realities and the accompanying blessings of caring for those with dementia. Whether you are new to this journey or you’ve been struggling to care for a loved one for years, we hope you will listen in and be encouraged as they share openly and honestly from their own journeys, offering hard-won wisdom and lasting hope.
Are you making war on your sin, or are you being passive about it? Scripture says that in addition to receiving the love, grace, and forgiveness of Jesus, we must also purposefully and persistently battle our sin. This is the topic Pastor D.J. Horton and his three guests, Jared Hinkle, Alan Lachica, and Keith McKelvey, founders of MakeWar Ministries, are addressing on the latest podcast episode, specifically concerning men. It’s so easy to stand in church on a Sunday morning and fake your way through the service. It’s easy to fall into the trap of believing the crippling lie that you can never change or know victory over sin that has a vice grip on your life. But there is hope. Listen in to find out how, together, men can make war on sin and self so they can serve God and others well.
What’s the purpose of denominations? While denominationalism is a topic Christians may care about, many may not realize how much it impacts their personal lives. Join Pastor D.J. Horton and Clint Pressley, pastor of Hickory Grove Baptist Church in Charlotte, as they discuss the future of denominationalism, common misconceptions surrounding it, and why churches need to be connected as a family. In a world that is becoming more and more cynical about institutions and denominations, Clint is the perfect person for this conversation as he serves his two-year term as the elected President of the Southern Baptist Convention, the largest Protestant Evangelical denomination in the world. Pastors can’t pastor alone, and churches can accomplish more together than they can apart.
The goal when it comes to marriage isn’t just to avoid divorce or keep from cheating on one another. God wants to enable us to have strong, healthy, anointed marriages. Marriages where couples are empowered to push back darkness and grow God’s Kingdom. Join Pastor D.J. Horton and Donna Ward, a Christian counselor with 25 years of experience, as they discuss how to fight for the health and wholeness of the covenant of marriage. They share some common tactics of the enemy, practices that can help build strong marriages, as well as how to begin preparing our children for eventual marriage. God cares deeply about our marriages, and He is still in the business of healing, restoring, and reviving hearts and homes surrendered to Him.
All of creation declares God’s glory, and one of the ways we can experience His glory in nature is through deer hunting. Whether you’re connecting with God’s presence or making memories with friends and family, stealing away for time to hunt can be a gift. Join Pastor D.J. Horton and his guests, Kevin Drake, the Executive Director of Upward Sports, and Michael Lord of Michael Lord Sports, as they discuss their personal journeys with this pastime. From shooting your first deer to gospel opportunities and even the dangers that come from being too consumed with it, listen in as they unpack the intersection between being a hunter and a Christ-follower.
When it comes to receiving counseling, there can be a stigma surrounding it. People often fear being judged or talked about. Sometimes feelings of pride and the fear of looking weak get in the way. It’s hard to ask for help, but the Lord has made it clear that godly counsel is something we need to seek—especially in those times when we are hurting or stuck in cycles of sin. Don’t miss this conversation between Pastor D.J. Horton, Becca Fisher, the Director of Biblical Counseling at Church at The Mill, and Tonya Jones, Director of the Biblical Counseling Training Center at Church at the Mill, as they talk about what biblical counseling is, why it’s so beneficial, and even how to become trained to be a counselor. Biblical counseling provides a beautiful opportunity for God to work, but it requires pressing past the resistance to even start.
The Lord has blessed us with incredible opportunities to enjoy outdoor sports like hunting and fishing, but what about when those things get in the way of Jesus being the main thing in our lives? Listen in to this honest and encouraging conversation between Pastor D.J. Horton and Hank Parker, professional bass fisherman & TV host, as they talk about how everyday men can become better ambassadors for Christ. Hank is a two-time Bassmaster Classic Champion and Bass Fishing Hall of Fame inductee, but he shares how the true legacy he wants to leave is that of being a man who loves Jesus and shares Him faithfully.
Do you ever struggle or feel discouraged when it comes to sharing your faith? As Christians, we know we are called to communicate the gospel, but when it comes to evangelism, so many say they just don’t know where to start. Join Pastor D.J. Horton and Pastor Brad Cooper, the lead pastor of Culture and Direction at New Spring Church, for a conversation on how to join with others in the work the Holy Spirit is already doing in the lives around us. Learn about leveraging your life right where you are - as a teacher, a coach, a plumber, a grandmother - as you let the pressure fall off and His light shine forth. Because people don’t need to see perfection, they need to see the reality of Jesus in our lives.
Christians committed to growing in Christ have non-negotiables in their lives, things like spending time in God’s Word, praying, and being an active part of a local church. But what about exercise? Does it matter how we care for our bodies? Join Pastor D.J. Horton and David Mathis, executive editor of Desiring God and author of A Little Theology of Exercise, for an encouraging and motivating conversation about how we treat our bodies and how deeply it impacts our spiritual lives. The world will tell you to exercise to be attractive, get a six-pack, and avoid any sign of aging, but we’ve got to find a better “why” for stewarding our bodies well.
There is a worldwide war on girls and their identity. The lies and darkness are coming at them at a speed and scale past generations didn’t face, like our young girls do now, through things like social media. That’s why D.J. invited Samantha Arp, the Girls’ Ministry and Curriculum Coordinator at Church at The Mill, to have a conversation about how we all - moms, dads, aunts, uncles, coaches, teachers, and pastors - can best help the young women in our lives know and grow in who they are in Christ. Listen in as Sam shares, with wisdom and sound theology, how we can build up this next generation of believers, not on shallow things, but to become women who hold unwaveringly to the Word and ways of God. Because we aren’t just raising women. We’re releasing warriors.
Most Christian leaders don't set out to misuse the money and resources God has entrusted to them, yet we still find poor stewardship happening among phenomenal, godly people. What needs to change, and why does it matter? Join Dr. D.J. Horton and his church's Executive Pastor, Ken Fisher, for a conversation on becoming faithful stewards. They'll discuss two of the biggest enemies of being good stewards, as well as some of the most common mistakes even well-meaning leaders make when it comes to stewardship. Becoming people who honor the Lord with our financial decisions is a needed and attainable goal.
As leaders, we can fall into the trap of thinking we have to be the ones with all the ideas, but that's simply not true. Our teams need to know that not only is bringing fresh, innovative ideas welcomed, but it’s also needed. Join Dr. D.J. Horton and guest Pastor Jason Williamson, founder of the Through Our Eyes Project, for a conversation on why we need the ideas of others and how we can create an atmosphere where people feel encouraged to think creatively.
Nothing can create a toxic work or ministry environment quite like dishonesty and gossip. Ministry is already emotionally demanding enough. So, why would we want to waste emotional energy by fostering unhealthy relationships where everyone is venting and talking about one another instead of resolving issues with each other? Join Dr. D.J. Horton and Pastor Asheton Amerson for a conversation on demanding honesty from ourselves first and being a part of killing gossip. How seriously we wage war on gossip will directly impact how much unity we experience in the places where we lead.
No one would argue against the need for unity in our churches and organizations. But unity doesn’t come easy. So, how do you even begin creating this cultural characteristic where you lead? Join Dr. D.J. Horton and his guest, Lawrence Kind, for a conversation where they define unity - because it's not uniformity or everyone always agrees - and discuss what it takes to be unified.
Giving and receiving criticism can end up being difficult and emotionally charged situations. Both require us to check our ego at the door so that criticism can be given gently and accepted humbly. But how do we actually get to where we can offer it without being reactionary and receive it without being offended? Join Dr. D.J. Horton and his guest, Julie McNeely, the worship ministry director at the church he leads, for a conversation that will help you learn what it looks like to stay in step with the Holy Spirit when critiques are needed.
How often do you hear people laughing where you lead, and might that reveal about the culture there? Listen in as Dr. D.J. Horton and Dr. Josh Epton discuss why laughter needs to be common in your ministry, workplace, and home. This fifth characteristic might seem surprising, but it is vital for a healthy leadership culture. Not because the ultimate goal is laughter. The goal is joy, and the fruit of joy is laughter.
One of the greatest threats to growing businesses and ministries is when everyone simply looks out for themselves. Creating a kingdom-minded culture means the people on your team want to help each other win because there is a bigger picture at play. So, how do you guard against those you lead becoming so myopic that you end up with deeply fragmented teams? Join Dr. D.J Horton and Dr. Tripp Atkinson for a conversation on how to work together effectively in a world that often encourages us to live self-centeredly.
When it comes to our churches, businesses, and ministries, we should certainly want to pursue excellence, but excellence can become our enemy when we forget that people matter most. Join Dr. D.J. Horton and Pastor Jarrett McNeely for a conversation surrounding how to love and shepherd the people you lead well - even when it’s difficult - and how to avoid burnout. People truly do matter most because they matter most to Jesus.
Most Christians will say that there is power in prayer. They'll even say they want to pray about everything. Sadly, though, there is often a disconnect between what we say about prayer and what we do in prayer. We run the risk of operating our churches, businesses, ministries, and lives at a high level, yet without the power, presence, and movement of God. Join Dr. D.J. Horton and guest Pastor Adam Siskey for a discussion on the importance of allowing prayer to trump our well-laid plans.
Join Dr. D.J. Horton and special guest Kevin Drake, the Executive Director of Upward Sports, as they discuss the first of ten leadership characteristics: The Lord is honored. Culture is going to happen in your organization, whether it's a business or a church, whether you want it to or not. You will have a culture. Learn more in this episode about how to create an intentional culture that honors the Lord over having an accidental one that may not.

As human beings, it is tempting to try to find our joy in temporary experiences and worldly things more than we find our joy and pleasure in Christ, and this is certainly not a battle that leaders are immune to. Join Dr. D.J. Horton and Dr. Albert Mohler, the president of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, for a conversation on dealing with the sin of seeking superficial pleasures or possessions over being fulfilled and satisfied in the Savior.

As pastors, it is possible to work really hard at doing church really well, yet become increasingly indifferent to the reality that the lost around us face an eternity without Christ in hell. Join Dr. D.J. Horton and guest Dr. Paul Chitwood, president of the International Mission Board, for a conversation on how to avoid the sin of being satisfied in ministry without seeing people saved.

We were never meant to lead our ministries with stale prayers and spiritless priorities. Join Dr. D.J. Compromising God's standard for holiness in the areas of sex, sexual desire, and sexual purity is a difficult sin to attack because of the personal and private nature of most sexual sin. This is why leaders must intensify their diligence and transparency. Join Dr. D.J. -The relationship of children to their parents is first, forever, and foundational.
The Obedience to the 5th Commandment
Honor matters. Honor in Hebrew literally means “heavy” or “weighty.” Honor is really for all of us.
Honor: Children – Obedience. Adults – Respect/Care.
3. The Obstacle to the 5th Commandment
When this world’s relationships are broken, you are not alone.
Honoring you as a mother with truth...
When you honor The Lord, you honor your parents and you parent honorably.

It is a dangerous thing to make an idol. It is even deadlier to make an idol and claim it is an act of worship to the One true living God.

Consider the Image of God you are bearing.
Exodus 20:1-3
The First Commandment is about…
His Preeminence over their Lives
His Pursuit of their Lives
His Performance in their Lives
His Priority for their Lives
Our idols do not need to be forged from earrings to constitute a spiritual danger to us. They appear whenever we exchange
“the glory of the immortal God” for anything in the created order.

Your HOW and your NOW matter. Live Accordingly
8 Resolutions every believer should make and keep:
Gather
1. I will make it my priority and my pattern this year to gather with my church on Sundays to offer my worship and hear God’s Word preached.
2. I will make sure small group fellowship around God’s Word is a part of my weekly rhythm.
Grow
3. Five days a week I will spend time in an unhurried communion with The Lord by CAMPing in His Word. Comprehend, Apply, Meditate, Pray.
4. I will seek out and commit to a special relationship with another believer of my gender for discipleship. I may offer guidance or receive guidance but walking with another believer will be a part of my routine.
GIVE
5. I will serve The Lord by finding or remaining in a consistent place of service within a ministry of the Church.
6. I will generously and sacrificially support my church financially with tithing my income as the goal and baseline of personal stewardship.
GO
7. I will attempt to share my faith with someone through intentional prayer and conversation on a weekly basis.
8. I will find a way to be involved in one of the missions efforts around me to share the gospel through word and deed to people not normally in my circle of influence.
