We got into the Guinness Book of Records (also Blue Peter) and we're here to show you how.
While the majority of us were learning how to bake, during the 2020 lockdown Jason set himself an ambitious goal: to break a record.
The action sports athlete combined hard work with out-of-the-box thinking to create a new challenge of unicycling while simultaneously lifting a barbell.
He broke the record for heaviest single weight lifted by barbell overhead press while riding a unicycle by lifting an incredible 68 kg (149.9 lb) in April 2021, after eight weeks of continuous training for five days a week.
Now a proud representative of Guinness World Records 2023, thanks to Rod's magnificent photograph, which was also featured all over the press.
“The book is kind of part of the fabric of our culture, really, as I think everyone has memories of the Guinness World Records as a kid at Christmas.
“And to be a very small part of that, it feels a lot more meaningful than just breaking the record itself – that was very humbling, for one, and a real honour to be part of it.”
He said that as a child, the unconventional records stood out to him “a little bit more”.
“That would catch my eye and it probably has influenced me in some way, shape or form, and I cannot believe it is still relevant,” he said.

Martial arts aren’t just a great way to get in shape; they can also help improve your self confidence and mindfulness, and introduce you to new cultures and friends. Many lessons taught in martial arts apply to other aspects of life.
We discuss the impact that film and television has had on introducing people to martial arts.
We look at the article from Medium.com on the 6 best martial arts for fitness:
We talk about our own experience with Boxing, Kick Boxing and Rod's 20 year practise of Capoeira.
We ask, which Martial Art can you eat a burger while doing? Which can you River Dance while doing?
And we end with, who would win these fantasy fights? Including Jake Paul and Mike Tyson, Bruce Lee and Muhammad Ali.

On episode 126 of Just The Fitness Tip, Rod and Jason explore the Metaverse and how new technology is seeking to make fitness more accessible and virtual worlds more immersive. Including apps like Supernatural and Body Combat from Les Mills.

Urban dictionary defines Ego Lifting as;
The act of lifting heavy weights for the sole purpose of impressing other people in the room. This is usually done with awful form and gratuitous grunting noises.
John: "Look at that idiot ego lifting over there." Mike: "Omg, what a tool. He isn't even using much weight."
But can ego ever play a beneficial role in our health, fitness and wellbeing goals? Rod & Jason ask the question.
We love hip hop here on Just The Fitness Tip and without ego, we'd not have some of the greatest rap lyrics in history.

If you think your workout will make you lose weight, will it be more effective? Can one milkshake make you hungry or full based on what you're told?
Rod reads crap motivational Instagram posts and gets angry about 20 years old giving him life coaching. Do you find poorly translated quotes written on a stock photo of a mountain inspiring?
We're joined by special guest Dr Isi Okolo, a Paul Farmer Global Surgery Research Fellow at the Program in Global Surgery and Social Change (PGSSC), and master of public health candidate at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. She is also an obstetrics & gynaecology senior resident in the National Health Service in Scotland...and she's married to Rod, continuing our streak of guests who just happen to be friends/family.

“The total effect of anything is a combined product of what you’re doing and what you think about what you’re doing.” - Dr Alia Crum.
Today's episode is inspired by the work of Dr Alia Crum, we look into her studies including how hotel housekeepers lost weight by just believing their work was exercise and her popular milkshake experiment; where participants actually produced more or less ghrelin (a hormone secreted in the gut. People in the medical profession call it the hunger hormone. When ghrelin levels in the stomach rise, that signals the brain that it's time to seek out food.) based on what they believed they were consuming rather than the actual nutritional value of what they consumed.
Dr Crum hypothesises, the effect of food consumption on ghrelin may be psychologically mediated, and mindset meaningfully affects physiological responses to food.

On episode #122 of Just The Fitness Tip, Rod & Jason speak to Wasequa Ayesha Mir, registered Nutritional Therapy Practitioner B.Sc, M.Sc, mBANT, rCNHC and owner of Nutrify You.
Nutritional therapy is the application of nutrition science in the promotion of health, peak performance and individual care. This approach allows them to work with individuals to address nutritional imbalance and help support the body towards maintaining health.

They discuss their own personal experiences of drugs and chat in more detail about the potential useful application of psychedelics including LSD & DMT.
Mike Tyson asks "Do you know the toad?"
Jason mentions the massive amounts of MDMA he's taken yet fails to mention the recent clinical application of the drug in helping those with PTSD.

Our first two parter explores performance enhancing drugs in sports and fitness.
Jason is joined by Rod once again to ask; What are steroids? Are their ever any benefits to using drugs? How common is the use of performance enhancing drugs in sport? We talk about the fascinating documentaries Icarus & Bigger, Stronger, Faster, both of which delve into steroids and PEDs revealing a world most of us never knew existed. Icarus filmmaker Bryan Fogel sets out to uncover the truth about doping in sports, a chance meeting with a Russian scientist transforms his story from a personal experiment into a geopolitical thriller. Dirty urine, unexplained death and Olympic gold are all part of the exposure of the biggest scandal in sports history. Bigger, Stronger, Faster presents the pervasive use of steroids in sports as an indication of the American obsession with winning at all costs. The Bell brothers have been sucked into the world of performance-enhancing drugs, thinking this is their ticket to realizing the American dream. Interviews with politicians, doctors, bodybuilders and coaches raise the question: Do the ends really justify the means? Because in the mad dash to win, an entire culture may be poised to lose. Trigger Warning: Michael Ulloa is still away so time for a sex episode.
There's a lot of language and content only suitable for adults. We will be talking about sex as it relates to fitness, both seriously and entirely immaturely, so please do not listen with anyone you deem inappropriate.
Jason is joined once again by Rod Penn and Dan Scott and although we do have a laugh, there's some great discussions points around how fitness affects our sex lives and the benefits of sex on our overall health.
We ask;
Does fitness improve your sex life?
Does how you look affect your enjoyment of sex?
How many calories does sex burn?
Does pornography have a negative effect on our mental health?
Specifically, we ask Dan;

What do you look for in a PT? Trainers, what qualities do you think are essential when working in personal training?
That's today's topic. Born from one of Jason's rants, he suggests to Michael that organisation, communication and selling outweigh health and fitness knowledge when it comes to being a successful personal trainer.
We ponder why so many great trainers can't cut it when they leave a big gym chain and become self employed.
Michael stresses the importance of being able to communicate effectively with clients, including utilising social media as a way to grow relationships and not just to sell personal training.
We very briefly mention Gary Vee for the SEO but also because his theory of providing three times the value to a customer before asking for something in return, is THE most effective way to grow your fitness business.

Every major celebrity in the fitness bubble is hiding a secret from the entire world and it's taken YouTube gamer PewDiePie to expose it. The Swedish superstar made an uncharacteristic video on the lack of transparency of steroid use in the movie industry, specifically calling out actors who have gained impossible amounts of muscle to play superheroes in the Marvel cinematic universe.
On episode 110 of Just The Fitness Tip we ask, is the fitness industry lying to you about how celebrities achieve ungodly physiques and if so, is it immoral for them to profit from products or services they claim to provide results without that transparency?
Chris Hemsworth sells his Centr app, inferring it is how he manage to pack on 40lbs of muscle in under a year.
Kumail Nanjiani transformed his physique aged 40, apparently with nothing more than beetroot juice and electric shocks to his muscles.
Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has a lucrative partnership with Under Armour and a highly profitable energy drink based on his philosophy of "blood, sweat and respect" but is it really just tenacity and 3am workouts that resulted in the musclebound 50 year olds unbelievable gains?
Most importantly, PewDiePie has the largest YouTube audience in the world, largely made up of young boys who may know little about fitness but certainly know of these celebrities. We talk about the responsibility the media has not to spoon feed beginners with misinformation that could potentially result in long term damage, both physically and psychologically.

Of course, any kids from the 90s will know Diane from Saturday night TV where she starred as Jet, regularly smashing members of the public in games of speed, strength and endurance. We chat to Diane about her time as Jet, the body image pressures of a show like Gladiators, the physical toll it took, including a serious neck injury that ended her time on the show aged just 26.

He talks about how we hounded him to come on the show and tells us the hounding he did to get on GMTV back in the 90s, at a time when advertisers did not want a black man doing aerobics on morning telly.
He gives us rare insight into his personal life, how he was given up at 3 months old, moving to the UK from Jamaica and growing up in Leicester. He tells us the key things that took him from being a homeless single parent in his early 20s to training Gloria Hunniford, Lorraine Kelly, Eamon Holmes and being the face of fitness for a generation.
We hear about his recent work with charities like Social Bite and starting his Motivator Club aimed at getting older people moving and caring more about their health.
He tells us what he really thinks about modern fitness personalities like Joe Wicks & James Smith, his favourite Gladiator and the biggest scoop of all, what he keeps in his bumbag.
We are approaching 100 podcast episodes here on Just The Fitness Tip! In this episode we discuss what we've learnt since creating the podcast, and we let you know our 'secrets for success' in podcasting.
We also sample some of the best tip hop quote moments to round off the episodes before making a very special announcement for our 100th episode! We will be welcoming a guest we have both wanted on the show for some time, and we know you are going to love this one!
From the Just The Fitness Tip team, thank you so much for listening to our show and thank you for being part of this journey with us. We will be launching our new YouTube channel shortly, so keep your eyes peeled for even more health and fitness content from us both.
Yours in health,
Michael & Jason
On episode 98 of Just the Fitness Tip, Mich & Jason list their top 3s. From their favourite exercises to most common fitness myths and everything in between.
We chat about Jason's award winning short film, "The World's Strongest Unicyclist" which you can watch in full here. For more info, listen to episode #97 with filmmaker, Rod Penn.
We're giving a special shout out to Edinburgh and it's wonderful professionals and creatives, including who you should be following on social media, the best running spots and other ways to get fit in the city without a gym.
Rod Penn, Capoeira instructor, filmmaker and photographer, is no stranger to Just The Fitness Tip. He took the very picture that became our podcast thumbnail.
He joins us today to talk about "The World's Strongest Unicyclist" a short film he made with co-host Jason Auld, that has been selected for the Scottish Short Film Festival and nominated for a number of awards.
The film is a constructed reality version of Jason's training and attempt to set the Guinness World Record for the heaviest overhead press with a barbell whilst riding a unicycle.
We chat about how lockdown inspired them to set a lofty goal in an effort to shake off the monotony of the year prior.
We find out what goes in to training for a world record, including Edinburgh's fitness professionals Jason worked with to achieve it.
Cece Ho, yoga instructor. Dan Scott, personal trainer and of course, our very own Michael Ulloa, nutritionist.
You can watch "The World's Strongest Unicyclist" from September 20th by heading to Rod's website: www.penn.photography
Rod tells us more about Capoeira, a Brazilian martial art that combines elements of dance, acrobatics, and music.
And Rod treats us to a quiz at the end of the show that asks us, is this a real athletic feat or one made up by a dictator?

On episode 96 of Just the Fitness Tip, Michael sets Jason the task of thinking of a Gladiator name that is camp but menacing.
We talk about Man Vs Fat, the football league where you must have a BMI over 27.5 and where losing weight weekly earns your team points.
Is it positive or negative? Should losing weight be encouraging over scoring goals?
We read about an overly complex way of knowing whether you should drink more water or not.
Do you struggle to hydrate? Do you find drinking enough water throughout the day hard work?
And we read about the trainer posting workouts to help you sex game.
Do you do any gym based exercise to improve your bed based performance? Is the term "sex game" a turn off? Should we chat more about functional love making fitness?
Get in touch and let us know your thoughts on all of the above. DM us on Instagram; @JustTheFitnessTip, @MichaelUlloaPT, @JasonProUnicyclist
On episode 95 of Just The Fitness Tip, we speak with former Love Island DJs and Virgin Radio presenters, Lisa & Alana MacFarlane, The Mac Twins.
After volunteering to be part of the TwinsUK research at King’s College London, they founded The Gut Stuff, an online wellness platform designed to promote the importance of a healthy gut.
We ask why they went from DJing events for Simon Cowell and presenting Love Island to telling people to care more about their gut microbiome.
They make look like Gwyneth Paltrow and they certain talk a lot of sh*t but and their company isn’t part of the ‘eat like me, look like me’ brigade of mindless influencers. Instead, with the help of a wealth of experts researching this exciting new field, they tell us why they turned their back on showbiz to take a gamble starting a company their management said would "ruin their careers" in order to bring gut health to the masses.
They share tips from their book, The Gut Stuff: An Empowering Guide to Your Gut and Its Microbes, to help regulate your hormones, control your blood sugar, manage the calories that you absorb, affect your immune system and, most fascinatingly, communicate with your nervous system and you’re brain.
You can check out The Gut Stuff, including their range of high fibre bars, here; https://thegutstuff.com/

On episode 93 of Just the Fitness Tip, Jason & Michael read an article in the Hindustan Times about actress Deepika Padukone's latest Instagram post, leading to us ask the question; are our health and fitness expectations too far removed from reality?
Does social media cherry picking, filters, airbrushing and lighting create the false idea of an attainable body?
Are our favourite physiques achieved using steroids?
Are you aware of what is real and what isn't? Do you care? Are you happy for images to be posted as long as it's made clear how they've been achieved? Or do you think only unedited photos should be used in mainstream media and any use of performance enhancing drugs should be totally banned?
Is Nate Diaz right when he says "Everyone is on steroids?"
Plus we find out what Gymnasiums have to do with being naked.
Mich's obsession with Dolly Parton's theme park, Dollywood.
The Metro's latest health and fitness product "hit list" including vegan meal prep; do you care if vegan food compares itself to meat?
And BREAKING NEWS: Jennifer Aniston starts eating bread again.
Do you eat carbs? Do you feel guilty about eating carbs? Why do celebrities care so much about carbs?
All this and more on the latest episode of Just the Fitness Tip.

It's our first ever compilation episode. "Best of the Guests" revisits some of the best conversations, soundbites, facts, tips and laughs we've had with a small selection of previous guests.
We know what you're thinking, you've heard it all before right? Listening back, we found some gems that even we overlooked first time around which is easy to do after 91 episodes. Plus we give you our thoughts and feelings on the interviews.
Guests include;
Dr Giles Yeo; We talk to esteemed BBC presenter, podcaster and scientist about the genetics of bodyweight and how obesity often is not a choice.
Dr Natasha Larmie aka The Fat Doctor; Our most popular episode to date, Dr Natasha caused controversy in her outspoken beliefs on body positivity and bodyweight stigma. Is it possible to be overweight and healthy? Should there be more overweight role models in mainstream media?
School of Calisthenics; Tim & Jacko talk to us about exercise through play, how the fitness industry has made exercise boring and how you too can get more like on Instagram.
Claire Tracey; Strength & Conditioning coach at Gloucestershire University and former rower, Claire talks about her experience as a female in a male dominated industry, working with professional and amateur athletes both male and female.
Phil Learney; The PT Coach talks to us about how communication is the key to successful personal training, why Joe Wicks & James Smith have been so successful and the difference between a Soho PT & a Canary Wharf PT.
Anthony Lolli; Star of Amazon Prime documentary "Fat Lolli to 6 Pack Lolli", we find out how Anthony shed 125lbs in only 9 months in preparation for his first ever bodybuilding and how the tragic death of his trainer only weeks out, motivated him more to achieve his goal.
Lewis from Grams Edinburgh; Grams is a health food cafe in Edinburgh co-owned by our mate Lewis. He talks to us about his new cafe focused on encouraging people to try vegan food without the heavy-handed approach that puts some people off. He shares the difficulties of creating tasty dairy free, gluten free, meat free cuisine and some of the difficult customers he's faced.
Listen back to all of these episodes in our archives and let us know your favourite, along with the myriad of other guests we didn't have time to include.
We'll be back soon with brand new guests as well as Mich & Jason's usual musings on health, fitness and the silliness of the industry.

We're proud to celebrate Pride Month by welcoming mental health advocate and Glasgow based personal trainer, Mark Brownlie to Just The Fitness Tip.
Having previously worked in social care, Mark brings a holistic approach to training his clients with a focus on the benefits exercise can bring to mental health.
Mark is an openly Gay man and he opens up about the challenges faced by the LGBTQ+ community in the fitness industry and the gym environment, as well as the role that unrealistic body image and our relationship with masculinity plays on exercise & diet habits.
We ask Mark;
Is there greater pressure on Gay men to work out?
How do heterosexual men treat him in the gym?
Does being Gay help or hinder his ability to identify with clients?
And what all of us can do, regardless of sexuality, to make the gym a more welcoming place.

We made it to episode 90!
Today, Jason & Michael talk about the worrying new study suggesting sitting can be as bad for us as smoking. The recommended amount of exercise, 30 minutes per day, might not be enough to improve overall health for those sitting up to 11 hours per day.
We provide fitness tips on the easiest ways to add movement into your daily routine, without having to spend hours in the gym.
We also talk about Colby Watson, a man suing Gwyneth Paltrow's Goop because his vagina scented candle exploded.
Check out the article in The Metro about sitting here.
Check out the story about a man engulfed in vagina scented flames here.
Episode 89 kicks off with the question "should restaurants be made to put calories on their menus?" after it's teased that the government could enforce a new law on establishments with over 250 employees.
Do you think this will do more harm than good? Do you think it will help you make healthier choices? Let us know.
We talk mood-based workouts and how they can help you stay consistent with your training regardless of what life throws at you.
And of course, it wouldn't be Just The Fitness Tip if we didn't mock Gwyneth Paltrow for admitting she "broke down" and ate bread.
What's a quinoa cocktail?
Is she playing a character to promote her company Goop or is this real? Jason ends the show with a Tip Hop Quote inspired by the bread breakdown.
James and Alice Luetchford are not only two of Michael's clients, they're also rising stars in the world of para alpine ski racing.
The married couple have had a bumpy ride from day 1, with James being diagnosed with severe sight loss the day before their wedding.
Their career in skiing was born when on holiday, a ski instructor suggested Alice guide James down the slope.
In November 2016, they competed in their first ski race for Great Britain and the rest is history.
In today's pod, we hear more from James & Alice on their relationship as partners and athletes, the sport itself and their constant fight to get funding and support after an error saw James reclassified as having had his eyesight restored.
An amazingly inspiring story for the Tip Nation, on revaluating your potential and setting goals that may seem beyond your abilities.
To follow James & Alice's journey, find them on Instagram @LuetchfordSkiRacers
You can check out their website for more information on them and the sport of para alpine skiing here: https://www.luetchfordskiracers.com/
And you can find some of Alice's amazing artwork here: https://www.aliceluetchfordartist.com/ All proceeds go towards funding their ski training so invest in a wonderful piece of art for your home whilst investing in British athletes.
On episode 87 of Just The Fitness Tip we take a look at the BBC Three documentary "Get Thicc, Get Sick" about the use of Apetamin, an appetite stimulant being used by women looking to get curvier physiques the likes of Kim Kardashian. We thoroughly discourage anyone from using medication or drugs without the supervision of a medical professional.

Our latest interview is with Claire Tracey, Strength & Conditioning coach and technical demonstrator at the University of Gloucestershire. Back on episode 50, we talked about funny but honest thoughts we've all had about the gym and you told us it was one of your favourite episodes to date. So in an effort to reproduce that magic but update it for 2021, here's Jason and Michael with some funny but honest thoughts we've all had about home workouts including;
Resistance bands
Zoom classes
Which room do you exercise in?
The problem with pets
and more.
Let us know your funny but honest thoughts about home workouts by dropping us a DM on Instagram; @JasonProUnicyclist, @MichaelUlloaPT and @JustTheFitnessTip
Episode 83, we sit down with "The Big, Friendly Osteo", our mate, Jordan Clemson.
We find out;
What is Osteopathy?
How did Jordan transition from playing Rugby to becoming a health professional?
What are the most common injuries Jordan sees?
What are the most effective ways to treat those injuries?
And at the end, we treat you to the greatest segment in health & fitness podcast history. That's right, it's the return of our game "Supplement or Supplemental". Jason will read out the name of a supplement and Jordan & Michael need to tell us whether it's a real supplement or a made up one.
If you want to get in touch with Jordan about chronic back pain, tightness, aches from sitting all day or sports injuries go to https://www.balancededinburgh.co.uk/ and give Jordan a follow on Instagram; @jordan.cj.clemson where we're sure he'd be happy to answer any questions.
Episode 82 is an 81 review. We look back at our interview with "The Fat Doctor" Natasha Larmie and share our thoughts on how it went, the feedback we received from The Tippers and some of the critics.
We hear about Sean McBride who's Huffington Post article "I weigh over 19 stone but I can still climb mountains" segues wonderfully from last week's topic on health at every size and bodyweight stigma.
A forced segue leads us to Kamlesh Parmar, who wants to "change peoples' lives" with outdoor gyms and we read some of the bonkers daily routines from celebrities include Just The Fitness Tip regular Gwyneth Paltrow, Mark Wahlberg & Oprah Winfrey.
Run a hot bath, segue into it and enjoy the show.
On episode #81 we're joined by Dr Natasha Larmie who calls herself "The Fat Doctor". Natasha is a GP with 20 years experience and a campaigner against weight stigma, specifically within the medical profession. She began blogging her own weight loss journey 9 months ago where "The Fat Doctor" moniker was born as a way of removing the power the word had as an insult.
Natasha hit the mainstream after appearing on ITV show This Morning, debate weight loss "guru" Steve Miller on the topic of fat role models for children. Natasha hit news pages across the world, with prominent names like James Smith, Layne Norton and Dr Spencer Nadolsky coming out on social media to criticise her directly.
So we wanted to get to the bottom of things and find out what "The Fat Doctor" really thinks.
Does she think being fat is healthy?
Does she believe all weight loss is bad?
Why does she call herself "The Fat Doctor"?
What are her views on "body positivity" and the "Health At Every Size" movement?
And is the Fitness industry too toxic a place to truly help everyone?
All of this and more, including Jason remarkably managing to show horn in a question about Pro Wrestling and it's not even silly or irrelevant.
You can follow Dr Natasha on Instagram: @fatdoctoruk
On Twitter: @thefatdoctoruk
And you can see where it all began, on her blog charting her weight loss journey including the moment she decided to stop losing weight, at https://www.fatdoctor.co.uk/
On the 80th episode of Just The Fitness Tip, Jason tells us what happened 6 years ago that made his week.
We discuss the Channel Four diet show "How To Lose Weight Well" and ask are these programmes helpful or harmful? What exactly is the K-Pop diet and the Sirtfood diet (made famous by Adele).
Finally, we look at some of the top fitness trends of 2021 as predicted by Men's Health and Elle magazine. Will any of these come to fruition or are they just the crazy ramblings of the health & fitness media?
