Inverted Audio is a London/Berlin based online music magazine launched in 2009 to spotlight electronic music culture in a personal and detailed fashion. The IA MIX Series invites the very best of the electronic music community to share a wealth of shapeshifting sounds. https://inverted-audio.com
INTERVIEW + TRACKLIST > https://inverted-audio.com/mix/wrecked-lightshipFollowing the release of their second album last year, Adam Winchester and Laurie Osborne return as Wrecked Lightship on Peak Oil with their latest album 'Drained Strands', opening the hallowed doors of their submarine to all types of distorted fantasies. As the name suggests, @wreckedlightship carries fractured memories of vessels forgotten in vast expanses, from the sea and beyond. The weight of their work conjures images of desolate landscapes beyond human reach, yet their invitation into this sonic vision becomes a ticket to inhabit the very space of extraterrestrials.'Drained Strands' withholds a kind of extraordinary beauty that is more often felt than heard. This combined performance unit of solo acts Appleblim & Wedge exists in an untethered vortex - one built from scattered electronics and bruised hearts. All of this culminates in IA MIX 392, a studio mix where heavy scores of bass and a plethora of textures, some borrowed and some unheard, bubble together in a melting pot of comfort and disorder.
INTERVIEW + TRACKLIST > https://inverted-audio.com/mix/marco-weibelSingapore-born, now New York-based selector Marco Weibel (@marcoweibel) distills a potent transmission for IA MIX 391, a testament to the power of eclecticism when guided by a curator with impeccable taste. It plays like a tribute to NYC — soundtracking a drift through cities restless arteries, from the crates of Human Head to Myrtle Avenue epiphanies, culminating in a 3AM descent into a steam-filled noodle joint, where basslines hang in the air like ghosts on the glass.
INTERVIEW + TRACKLIST > https://inverted-audio.com/mix/earthen-seaFor the 390th edition of the IA MIX Series we are thrilled to share a deep dive into jazzy neo-noir ambience from American producer Jacob Long, aka Earthen Sea.Currently based in New York City, Long is a DIY lifer, with over twenty years dedicated to Earthen Sea's wide range of sounds from long-form noise and drone recordings, minimal dub techno, and ethereal ambient experimentation. Long spent his early musical years in the Washington, D.C. hardcore group Black Eyes, before heading to San Francisco with bandmate Daniel Martin-McCormick to work with Damon Palermo on Mi Ami.While all three members branched off into their own solo electronic projects (Ital/Relaxer for Martin-McCormick and Magic Touch for Palermo), Long's work as Earthen Sea originated in the early 2000s. It began with longer experiments in drone and ambient before morphing into the icy dub techno many came to know from releases on Kranky and Lover's Rock.Recent LPs, such as 2024's Recollection, have veered to ambient, dub, and jazz-influenced tracks that consistently deliver the goods. For his mix, Earthen Sea offers an exhilarating combination of gamelan recordings, jazz, and dub techno. You will find it an ideal companion for your morning coffee or a night drive through empty, foggy cities. We also got to catch up with Jacob and learn about reuniting with Black Eyes, how recent live sets have incorporated saxophone driven drones, and his life-long love of skateboarding.
INTERVIEW + MIX > https://inverted-audio.com/mix/bjarki/ Bjarki Rúnar Sigurðarson is an artist in flux, slipping through definitions as easily as he does genres. His early output on трип suggested a clear trajectory—big-room techno, high-impact, and high-energy. But @bjarki has always been more interested in disruption. He loves veering off the beaten track.Over the past decade, his identity has splintered across at least twenty documented personas (and perhaps some more hidden from the voyeur's view), each serving a vessel for the unpredictable. He functions in a space of humour and unease—shaping music that is erratic, raw, and wholly untamed. And there is a lot of it—keyword: a lot. Bjarki doesn’t just release music; he floods the system. His latest album, 'A Guide to Hellthier Life', is a sharp, satirical dismantling of the wellness guru social media economy, where self-care is commodified and monetised at scale.Stepping up to deliver IA MIX 389, the Icelandic producer extends that same critique—a surreal, self-aware meditation on the absurdity of performative well-being. Dark humour is nothing new for Bjarki, but here, his observations feel more honed, more biting, more necessary. The mix itself is impossible to bracket, moving through states rather than styles—thoughtful, meditative, ridiculous, and deeply melancholic all at once. It’s a trip, in every sense. And, as always with Bjarki, it’s best not to ask where it’s going.
INTERVIEW & TRACKLIST > https://inverted-audio.com/mix/hassan-abou-alam@hassan-abou-alam the electronic technician from Egypt's underground, has been riding a long and high wave of peak performances. Following exhilarating live shows and DJ sets including a barrage of hot releases, most notably 'Shalfata' on YUKU and 'Mesh Mafhoom' on Nerve Collect in 2024 and his impeccable sound design has wooed crowds of sweaty ravers on dance floors and off.Punchy low-ends, broken sound texture, strings full of character whir around, blistering sharp, and strands of traditional Middle Eastern drum patterns reimagined by Abou Alam pierce through sound systems. Genres stripped and mutilated create a gritty, grimy, euphoric experience in borderless sound, leaving scope for sensational body movement in any given setting.Strapping this heat into an hour podcast for IA MIX 388, Hassan About Alam lets us into his world of music, a delivery of adventurous tracks meticulously placed, launching hard into 2025. Fasten your seatbelts!
INTERVIEW + TRACKLIST > https://inverted-audio.com/mix/box5iveFor the 387th edition of the IA MIX Series, we are beyond excited to invite London-based ambient and experimental producer @box_5ive to deliver the goods. With a productive year culminating in the release of his debut album 'Grey Space' via co:clear, a sparse, ambient tinged bass record that blew our minds and remains one of our favourite full lengths of the year. With that record and scattered tracks for the likes of Well Street and Comic Sans, Box5ive is a burgeoning name in the ever expansive and adventurous world of UK bass, grime, and dubstep.Box5ive's mix explores contemporary independent club tracks, providing a glimpse at his peak time prowess from the comfort of your headphones. There are hints of his bass and dubstep influences, but it's woven in between prime dance fodder that works perfectly under strobe lights as the night morphs into the morning .In addition to his stellar mix, Box5ive graciously answered our questions to shed light on his musical influences and beginnings, current studio set up, and a look at some of his favourite London clubs.

INTERVIEW + TRACKLIST > https://inverted-audio.com/mix/alberta-balsamStepping up to deliver IA MIX 385, @albertabalsam carefully pieced-together mix weaves a winding tale of magnetic character. Dextrously manipulated synths, coarse beat patterns, and industrial disorder open a wormhole of multiversal music, complex yet cohesive by nature - dig in.

INTERVIEW + TRACKLIST > https://inverted-audio.com/mix/alex-albrechtStepping up to contribute IA MIX 383, Alex Albrecht (@melquiadesmusic) delivers a live set from the Natural Order festival in the Australian state of Victoria. Based around improvised, unreleased solo works, this is a gorgeous piece of ambient-leaning electronica. The energy of the set pulsates through your speakers, transporting you into a hypnotic, meditative journey. Alongside the podcast, Alex was kind enough to answer some of our questions and shed light on his musical background, the underground scene in Melbourne, and how the natural beauty of Australia continues to inspire his music.
INTERVIEW + TRACKLIST > https://inverted-audio.com/mix/strategy/American producer @strategydickow steps up to contribute the 382nd edition of the IA MIX Series delivering a stunning chill-out and downtempo podcast for expansive headphone listening.Across a 20-plus year career, and as many releases, Paul Dickow operates at the crossroads of ambient, dub, and electronica. His most recent Strategy album, 'The Wet Room', his 20th album to date, was released in November 2023 via Community Library, the label Paul co-runs with David Chandler. It feels both timeless and of its time, fusing elements of climate anxiety with a heady aura of leftfield sonics.Throughout his discography, Strategy has collaborated with esteemed labels including Kranky, 100% Silk, and Peak Oil, among others, as well as operating his own Community Library imprint, for an output as vast and varied as it is consistently stellar. He's as comfortable crafting hardware-focused, DIY techno as he is spinning long form experimental suites.Strategy's mix is as wide-ranging, unpredictable, and eclectic as his music, spanning Humpbacks, Seefeel, Laurie Spiegel, and Strategy himself. It's an ideal soundtrack for expansive headphone listening or the strangest, grooviest pool party in the neighbourhood. In addition to the mix, we asked Paul all about his history, the Portland music scene, and tour memories.
TRACKLIST + INTERVIEW > https://inverted-audio.com/mix/ia-mix-381-gamma-intelOperating in the neighbourhood of Rotterdam, one of its finest electro technicians @gammaintelligence is a steady and sharp signal in the network of the local Dutch underground. Uninhibited, cerebral-tickling, sound architecture deploys serious craftsmanship honed from meticulously polishing every texture from his singular, chiselled perception of audio design over constructive time.Outside his explosive production unit, Gamma Intel activates the same intellect on any territory, dancefloors or otherwise, spinning oddball hot numbers to make you sweat. A perfectionist by nature, he commits to disruptive, magnetic rhythms, all assembled with a curious mind deliberately free from restraints, forming a hyper-vortex music experience.Rest assured, the trooper Dutchman strikes with sweet bullseye precision on the brand-new treat of an IA MIX 381, hammering sound selections sourced and refined on his laboratory work table. Mechanical whirrs and a barrage of bolstered beats crackle in this tasty execution from Gamma Intel—setting forth a blaze hard to quench. Feel the warmth.
TRACKLIST & INTERVIEW > https://inverted-audio.com/mix/toxido-mask/A Berlin luminary and a serial dreamer DJ and producer, @toxido-mask is known to execute a synaesthetic experience that makes one dissolve on the dancefloor. She keeps it clean, she keeps it lethal, she keeps it transcendental. At her mercy, spine-chilling emissions of mesmeric synths, textural mechanical bleeps, and batting basslines of industrial house and techno merge and corrode to produce the purest form of a musical elixir, a drop of which evades the concept of mortality for a hot minute. The Tresor resident functions within the familiar and injects her beloved smoke-haze, club-influenced sound palette into IA MIX 380, drenching it with interstellar-grade, dubbed-out electronics. Time compresses, an hour whittled to five minutes in the blink of an eye, as Toxido Mask steers the wheel, captaining meticulous beat control and strong-grip storytelling, channelling the crowd toward a single vibration. Enter the dungeon with Toxido Mask.
TRACKLIST & INTERVIEW > https://inverted-audio.com/mix/ia-mix-379-roni/With @roni_nza, it's almost as if suddenly a storm hit the city one evening, and then she was just about on a flyer everywhere. May it be the exposure to a culturally mixed French-Malaysian upbringing, her poised supremely-femme personality, or the bottomless pit of exhilarating sweat-soaked late-night rendezvous she initiates—all of it exudes an aura that undoubtedly intrigues many.I first stumbled upon RONI's Instagram at the beginning of 2023 via a running order post for a long night of partying in Berlin's RSO, the revered venue formerly known as Griessmühle. Admittedly, I was a bit late to know her, for she was by then a staple in the burgeoning Paris underground, alongside a Rinse FM residency, establishing on-the-go Nehza Records while without-rest populating clubs all over Europe/ Asia as an effervescent touring DJ.RONI's sound curation is rooted in the continuous discovery of herself and her ravers—she ignites a euphoric connection with the crowd through a tense and undulated exchange of energies. A force of nature driving through the thicket, the dance floor swims deep in layers of UK-inspired, bass-heavy, massive-dub heaters, and cherry on top—angelic, shimmery textures for a transcendental surprise. The same applies to the IA MIX 379, curated with much adoration by RONI herself. Pulsating rhythmic structures, machine-gun percussion, and switching tempos serve as a real treat for the journey into the delicate sonic fantasy world behind a fiercely passionate mind - get to know RONI.
INTERVIEW + MIX > https://inverted-audio.com/mix/sam-gokuYears on the rise, @samgoku distinctive style has attracted a strong following on the dancefloor. Much like his club deliveries, with IA MIX 378, he instils a playful extension to the imagination. Euphoric micro-rhythms dart through light and shadow territories, and dark ambience meets rays of spring yellow light, echoing his signature sound of tight basslines on glistening buoyant club jams.
INTERVIEW + TRACKLIST > https://inverted-audio.com/mix/robin-felixSwiss producer Robin Félix (@felixfelixrobin) steps up to deliver the 377th edition of the IA MIX Series, interweaving a multi-rhythmic mix of textural ambient, breakbeat, IDM and experimental electronica.Based out of the Swiss town of Biel/Bienne, Robin Félix is a self described audio naturalist, employing found sounds as the basis of his productions upon which he implies a strict rule to use at least 80% of field recording in his music. He then twists, skewers and manipulates these sounds to create the most mesmerising of sculptural sound-fields incorporating swirling radial ambiance and intricate drum work.Mastered by Italian producer Neel, 'Senselessness 1/2' EP is a beautifully crafted vinyl, presented in gold Risograph artwork designed by Lisa Vatan - inspired by the ancient Japanese paper marbling technique of Suminagashi. With such a bold debut effort, we just had to find out more about the makings of it.In our interview, Robin sheds light on his musical background and penchant for field recordings as well as his minimalist production technique. Volte-Face is the production name of Casper Clark, the man behind BleeD, London's go-to club night for experimental electronic music. Now in his second year operating as Volte-Face, it seems that 2014 has ultimately primed to produce a remix for Daniel Avery to be release on Erol Alkan's imprint Phantasy Sound.

INTERVIEW + TRACKLIST > inverted-audio.com/mix/murat-tepeli
In the past few years, Murat Tepeli has quietly settled as one of the surefire house producers of today. Putting out music on labels such as Playhouse, Philpot and ava. as well as Ostgut Ton alongside with his close friend Prosumer, the man has gained a solid reputation but somehow remained quite a discreet figure on the scene. So it's not been much of a surprise to see Tepeli make it to FACT magazine's TOP 100 of the most underrated DJs, really, inasmuch as he dropped some dancefloor bombs that are still far from getting out of breath. We caught up with the man to discuss studio action, collaborative aspects and further release plans.

INTERVIEW > www.inverted-audio.com/marcos-cabral
Magnetic tape is just as crucial as vinyl in the development of music in the 20th century. The fact they could be spliced and re-arranged in any way, a tape would never sound the same way as it did the first time you played it. A lot of artists and labels have started to recover archives of forgotten tapes in the last decade. Fortunately the most recent re-discovered tape recordings still got the right attitude to be relevant. A lot of different genres as well. All you need to do is check out artists such as DJ Sneak or Virgo Four and record labels like New York's Minimal Wave-paradise of old tapes.
On the verge of making his first attempts to produce music, Marcos Cabral was doing what generations of music makers did. Experimenting with sounds and recording music on tapes. Sampling, looping, cutting and splicing it together. Tapes were the easiest and cheapest method to play with sounds and Marcos kept around 100 tapes aside with his possessions. The tapes were re-discovered and with the helping hand of Ron Morelli, his "False Memories" album was created.
To embrace the idea of his album, Marcos' mix for Inverted Audio is actually one of the mixtapes he made around 15 years ago, which we think is very special indeed.

Perc aka Alistair Wells, DJ, producer and label owner of Perc Trax begins the series with an extremely rare live ambient set. He performed this at Berghain Kantine after Dadub's performance. The recording contains new tracks and remixes of older tracks by Perc. "Some tracks were purely elements in my laptop and others were a mixture of laptop audio and live improvised electronics."
In the interview we discuss Perc's involvement and experience of Krake Festival and how his own record label Perc Trax is progressing.
INTERVIEW > www.inverted-audio.com/keith-worthy
While not always making as much noise as his Motor City compatriots, Keith Worthy has, be it in his guise of DJ, producer or label boss, rightfully held the respect of electronic music fans and figureheads since his early days in East Detroit. His DJ career may stretch back significantly further than his relatively young list of production credits, but his deep, smooth, and often intricately unusual tracks have been garnering praise since they began appearing in 2007. Ahead of his debut album, "The $ Of Non-Conformance", Keith sat down with Inverted Audio to give us his thoughts on DJing, Detroit and production.
INTERVIEW + PHOTOS > www.inverted-audio.com/dungeon-acid
Commemorating our 100th mix and 5 years of Inverted Audio we’re proud to present the first of a new series of specially recorded 100% live performances called IA Sessions. In February we met up with Swedish electronic techno producer Dungeon Acid in London and invited him down to the Radiumphonic lab to perform a completely one off live analog techno performance for us only. We recorded the audio and took some photos for you to see what happened.
INTERVIEW + TRACKLIST > www.inverted-audio.com/dfrnt
DFRNT is the moniker of Alex Cowles who heads up Echodub Records and net label Cut. In 2012 Alex released his second album 'Fading' via Echodub in which he flawlessly demonstrated his affinity to dub techno, reminiscing the sounds of Basic Channel, whilst also submerging elements of bass, jungle and garage in swells of dub techno reverb. On the cusp of releasing his next record, 'Nobody Stop Me' EP via FINA records, we interviewed Alex about dub techno, running two record labels as well his approach to artwork.
INTERVIEW + TRACKLIST > www.inverted-audio.com/blind-jacks-journey
Blind Jacks Journey is a vinyl-only independent record label based in Knaresborough, North Yorkshire. The labels name pays homage to local engineering legend John Metcalf (1717-1810) aka Blind Jack of Knaresborough. The label is run by a trio of friends who are also behind the Crow Castle Cuts imprint, another outlet for limited releases.
Blind Jacks Journey is forged out of a passion to release a slew of deep and dreamy house records, melding old skool sounds with the new. The imprint will release a series of various artist EPs, the first of which is Dream House Volumes 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4, which all have a dance floor feel to them, but will also feature a couple of laid back atmospheres to dream away to. They will also release a series called 'The Trip'.
Since discovering the label, courtesy of Kristina Records, we've been spinning Gnork's track 'Blorp93' featured on 'Dream House Volume 1.2' non stop, so we thought it was appropriate for us to invite Gnork to record a mix and for IA and for us to speak to Andy of Blind Jacks Journey about the label.

INTERVIEW + TRACKLIST > www.inverted-audio.com/matthewdavid
Over the last four years, Leaving Records have been relentless. Across a slew of tasty cassette cuts they have showcased a legion of producers who pluck themes from experimental hip-hop and fry them into bizarre new forms (check Dem Hunger's delirious collage or EMV's torrential bass torture). They've also been responsible for sending Julia Holter stratospheric through the release of her neoclassical slap around the jaw. Now, after an amicable merger with Stone's Throw, they are forging new paths with the release of some gnarly Northern Irish house.
At the helm of this project is Matthewdavid. The man clearly has access to Bernard's Watch because he's found time to steadily release music in between label commitments and a regular Dublab slot. His take on LA beatmaking resonates with his label's releases, and he confidently dices up ambient washes and complex rhythms across a number of releases for Leaving, Brainfeeder, and others.
If you're based in London, you can catch Matthewdavid live as part of a Leaving Records x Streets of Beige showcase this Wednesday. This will be the UK première of Matthewdavid's new live show with Diva, and it promises to be packed with flailing arms.
INTERVIEW + TRACKLIST > www.inverted-audio.com/thomas-kerridge
Thomas Kerridge, boss of RAMP Recordings and sub labels Brainmath, PTN and Fourth Wave, has been one of the most pivotal figures in the emergence and maintenance of the UK bass scene since Ramp’s inception in 2004. His accolades have included assisting in the career launches of scores of now-ubiquitous producers including the likes of Hackman, Zomby, SBTRKT, Maxmillion Dunbar, Ras G, Gerry Read, Doc Daneeka and Presk among many more. With almost ten years of experience on the scene, we asked Tom to put together an IA mix to celebrate the ongoing innovation and excitement of the UK’s dance sphere.
INTERVIEW > www.inverted-audio.com/magic-mountain-high
Magic Mountain High is a collaboration between David Moufang aka Move D, Gal Aner and Jordan Czamanski aka Juju & Jordash. As Magic Mountain High they've released one record on Workshop Records entitled 'Workshop xx', which was recorded a year ago at Move D's studio. All three tracks are based on live jams and improvisations in the studio, similar to how Magic Mountain High perform on stage, but made shorter so as to fit on vinyl.
Ahead of Magic Mountain High's London performance on Saturday 9th March for Phonica and ReviveHER alongside Vakula and Maurice Fulton we caught up with Gal and Jordan for a short interview, where we discuss Freerotation, their live setup and how they manage to work together despite geographical differences. This Inverted Audio mix is a recording of the trio playing live at Panoramabar in September 2012, with guest vocals by Eric D Clark and when we say live, we mean 100% live, no cheats, no edits just the plain truth.
INTERVIEW + TRACKLIST > www.inverted-audio.com/giegling
German record label Giegling was born out of a mutual passion of music from a collective of friends and producers who originally set out to arrange parties in an abandoned building in Weimar for their friends. After their venue was demolished in 2008, the collective continued to make use of the Giegling brand they had formed and opened up their own vinyl only label focusing on the deeper realms of house and techno.
This mix was recorded by Ateq, a member of the Giegling collective, who will also release the labels 13th record, which features in this mix. Florian's mix is aimed to represent his personal perspective of the overall Giegling sound. In the interview we discuss the origins of Giegling and the people behind the label. We also discuss Giegling's relationship with Kann Records and the labels approach to hand crafting original artwork for their releases.
INTERVIEW + TRACKLIST > www.inverted-audio.com/fred-p
Fred P aka Black Jazz Consortium has become one of the key players in New York City’s resurgent house scene. Having setup and established his own record label Soul People Music in 2005, he's primarily operated it as an outlet for himself but has also released tracks from the likes of Move D and Jus-Ed. Ahead of his performance in room 2 at Fabric on Saturday 23rd February we caught up with the Fred Peterkin for a short Q+A on his musical heritage, analog gear and forthcoming releases. Fred has provided a suitably deep mix, laden with hypnotic tracks from the likes of Deadbeat, Marcel Dettmann, Norman Nodge, Frozen Border, Truncate and many more. His aim is to create a warm up of his performance at Fabric.
INTERVIEW + TRACKLIST > www.inverted-audio.com/annie-hall
Annie Hall is DJ and producer originally from Madrid. She’s now based in Windsor, Canada on the border facing the Detroit skyline where she lives and works with her husband Kero, founder of the record label Detroit Underground. With releases on Semántica Records, Minuendo, Miga, Software records, D1 Recordings, Icon of Desire, Micron Audio and Detroit Underground, Annie Hall has become somewhat of a staple for experimental electronic music and icon for women in the electronic music industry.
In late 2012 we received a promo of Scan7‘s most recent 12″ ‘Mental Reaction‘ featuring an Annie Hall remix. After watching the accompanying music video, filmed on board The Detroit People Mover, twisting through the desolate Detroit skyline, we jumped at the opportunity to find out more about what’s happening at Detroit Underground and to see how both Annie and Kero are evolving the label.
Annie’s mix was recorded digitally and features tracks from Shigeto, Richard Devine, Jimmy Edgar, Byetone and Otto Von Schirach.
INTERVIEW + TRACKLIST > www.inverted-audio.com/wesley-matsell
Having released two records over the past four years, Wesley Matsell isn’t exactly in a rush to satisfy our musical appetites. After a tip off from Nathan Fake back in our interview in February, who praised Wesley’s productions, we started to take note of the Welshman’s output.
Early 2012 saw the release of Wesley’s highly acclaimed ‘Zones Within Zones‘ EP on Axel Boman and Petter Nordkvist’s Studio Barnhus label, a combination of jacking house grooves and heavily swung synth arpeggios. Wesley also released an excellent remix of Taragama Pyjarama’s ‘Balibat‘ and a cosmic remix of Phil Kieron’s ‘Le Carrousel‘. From what we’ve been told Wesley has big things lined up for 2013, including a potential release of a new record on Border Community.
For those of us who are based in London, The Hydra have invited Border Community to see us off into the New Year and Wesley Matsell will play alongside James Holden, Nathan Fake (live), Luke Abbott (live) and special guest Ivan Smagghe. Tickets are almost gone, so you better be quick.
INTERVIEW + TRACKLIST > www.inverted-audio.com/flako
Hot on the heels of his excellent ‘Enclosure EP‘, the inimitable Flako delivers an astoundingly diverse selection, moulded together sublimely with his own mellifluous productions, a few of which appearing as IA exclusives (thanks Flako!!).
