There are many reasons why people undertake or pursue learning how to build and maintain their very own rifles. And it's not always just about the money or cost savings. The two other reasons are expediency and quality. And until now you you could only have two of the the three choice.
If you want it fast and good, it's not going to be cheap.
If you want cheap and fast, it's usually not going to be good.
If you want it cheap and good, it's probably not going to be fast.
The future is about to change and our hopes is very shortly being able to provide out shooters and customers with all three. Get ready, the ACE is about to change everything.

The ACE in action, but not mentioned. This podcast is a mix of business, industry, the ACE and changes. We are proud of Derick and the work he has done. Derick was the first to ever hit the Cold Bore Shot Challenge and won the day at the Black Jack Challenge. Great job on both! Sadly, the ACE and Wolf Precision were edited from mention. That said, great job and both are great channels to watch.
In this podcast we are also excited to have our new online store open and our 2025 shooting school dates open for registration. Also, be on the look out for 5 new rifle starter kits being posted Friday. We think you will be both surprised and impressed.

This is as much a business podcast as it is a shooting podcast. Our industry has so many secrets and back door dealings hidden from the public that at first glance seem, to most, harmless. But make no mistake, it is a back door that will eventually close many businesses in the firearms industry. I really recommend doing research when dealing with or looking for products from these industries and reward those who support our industry with your business. And, be sure to tell them the reason you choose them! Thank you for supporting our shooting and manufacturing industry.

When talking about the magnums and 30 caliber hunting rifles, most accept the recoil delivered out of the box. Some think I am "anti-magnum" for this reason. I am not and really want to spread the word that if you are recoil sensitive or a younger shooter, you do not have to be anti-magnum either. There are many tricks to dropping the recoil and the big 30 calibers have huge range you can play with when it comes to manipulating these factors. The 300 PRC can be brought into line with the recoil of a .308 Win or maybe even less in some cases . It just takes some thinking and some tinkering. You do not have to be stuck with the punishment your rifle delivered out of the box. In this episode, I want to share with you some ways you can really tame it down and get into a comfortable range that almost anyone can shoot.

We are diving into the 7mm calibers. Any chance you can get them to recoil in the enjoyable range of 0-10 Foot pounds of energy on the shooter? You bet, and we will explain how along with some other reasons why this so is important besides just recoil reduction. A really important and ofter overlooked tool is setting up your rifle to be able to self spot.
We also answer a listeners question on properly adjusting your length of pull on your rifle. There are some challenges in getting this right and important things most people overlook, especially new shooters. We share our approach while here at the in person shooting schools.

Moving on to the 6.5 calibers in Magnums. This is where I think the divide starts with newer shooters starting to have either negative reactions to the shot or at least reducing the fun. That said, there are ways to make the bigger 6.5's more than capable of killing altmost any big game animal in the world without killing the sender in the process. We want to share some our experiences with you.
Having shot a .264WM for years and have taken Elk with it. I can share with you all my positive experiences with these calibers and tell you with confidence that I enjoyed every minute with that rifle. Including taking it long range varmint hunting and even placing 3rd in the North East Regional Varmint Hunters Association’s Championship Shoot. Not bad for magnum rifle that weighed just 12 pounds.

The 6.5 short action calibers...this is where most of the separation starts when it comes to the line in the sand for big game. In the US, it is considered unethical by some. In Europe, it is the number one moose caliber used. What is the difference? We will let you be the judge as we make the case as to why this is such a great caliber for new, young, or recoil sensitive shooters.
It's about shot placement and the shooter's ability to reliably and repeatably put the bullet on the mark every time. That is through minimal recoil and maximum training. Then, it's about speed and bullet design and construction.

I thought this was a great interview with Derick. It was not planned and not recorded to be one, but in the end Derick ask if he could post it. Of course, I said yes. Derick attended our shooting school in March of 2024 and purchased a custom rifle featuring the ACE from us last year. He is not only a great guy, but a Veteran and former Drill Sergeant. Both of which I have a lot of respect for.
Derick was leaving on an invite to the Black Jack Challenge held by YouTuber Erik Cortina. He wanted to ask some last minute questions before leaving not just some advice but more in depth questions on our patented and accurizing ACE System. I reposted his interview here because you get to hear the story of the ACE. I also want to support Derick and his efforts to grow as a shooter and his channel.
Lastly, he got the cold bore shot and won Eric Cortina's Black Jack Challenge with skill and of course a rifle featuring the ACE System. Thanks goes out to Derick and congrats on some great shooting!

So let's talk numbers. Although I am going to share with you my opinions on all the different calibers going forward, the numbers never lie. In this episode I want to share with you a recoil calculator that I find to be an invaluable tool while trying to build a rifle, select your caliber or even when selecting a bullet. This tool gives you a chance to change just a couple little things and see the results you will get in both recoil energy and recoil velocity. And recoil velocity is never spoken off and can make one of the biggest differences in taking your rifles "felt" recoil down a notch or two so you can enjoy shooting it more. Next episode is going to be on the big .224 calibers, but for now let's give you some tools to run the numbers on your own.

Setting the rules of the road. So, we are going to advocate going with the smallest caliber you think you can get by with. But how do you compare them? What are the parameters or measurements you would use to quantify or qualify the results to get an accurate comparison? This is how I am going to approach this and come up with a score. This is all with a baseline of comparison shooting a small .224 caliber like the .223 Rem, 222 Rem or 22 Hornet.
Recoil Tolerance Score of 0-100: How many people out of 100 can shoot 100 rounds through said rifle and enjoy each shot and would come back and come back to do another 100 rounds immediately afterwards like they could with a small .224 caliber?
Group Size Deterioration Score 0-100: How many people out of 100 could shoot said caliber without increasing their average group size by more than 50% when compared to what they could shoot with a .224 caliber?
Fundamental Deterioration Threshold 0-100: How many consecutive shots do I think the average person could shoot before fundamentals start to deteriorate? I feel 99% of the shooting population could shoot up to 100 rounds with a small .224 caliber.
Accuracy Deterioration Score 0-100: How many people out of 100 could maintain the same level of accuracy with this bigger caliber that they could achieve with a small .224 caliber?

Online Long Range Shooting School. https://www.wolfprecision.net/online-long-range-shooting-school.html
Let's start small. At least as small as you can legally shoot for hunting in most states. We are going to kick this series off with the small .224 calibers you can choose from. The 22 Hornet, 222 Rem and the .223 Rem. This is not a list of ideas. This is a list of killing-capable calibers for deer- sized game and below. I know this from experience as my Grandfather and my family has hunted with the first two calibers for decades. Taking more deer than you could fit in a dump truck and as best I can recall, I never remember him ever asking for help finding one that got away. That in itself should speak volumes on the value of these unspoken and often forgotten calibers that have been around for nearly 95 years. Take a listen with an open mind. It might change your shooting and open your world to the idea of going with the smallest caliber you can get by with.

Legend has it that many sailors have been hypnotized by the sweet song of the sirens, causing them to crash their boats into rocks and land. But first, sailors need to venture into siren territory before the sweet sound can grace their ears and their hearts, luring them into a fate with reckless abandonment.
We are shooters, not sailors, but the song is still sung for our ears and our hearts. It's not a ship on the ocean, but a crack of the rifle that sends a bullet at breakneck speed with the hopes of the sender to land it home and hit his target. That moment in time and the magic it takes to somehow make what seems the impossible happen is the vessel we shooters ride on.
Most people never get a chance to experience the excitement and magic of sending a bullet over a 1/2 mile down range and on their own hit a small target. For any chance to hear this song that is as beautiful as it is enchanting, you must set foot to sea (enter rifle range), put your hands on the rudder and let the winds blow your sail.
For many of us, the hook is set too deep and we are forever sentenced to floundering on the line and in some weird way enjoying every minute of it. One round at a time, frozen in time as we wait to hear that sweet song of the siren and praying to Neptune that they will sing to us just one more time that sweet sound of lead colliding with steel.
In this episode I would like to share with you personally why I have worked so hard in documenting our shooting school to put online and to share. This is the story of Wolf Precision and Jamie Dodson as we grew through the years in our ability to do and eventually teach.
Now, as I get older I would like to document all that we have learned to share and live forever. Even after I am long gone, I hope to leave something behind of value for the next generation of shooters. I also wanted to take the time to do it while I was still young enough and on my A game. Because eventually we all start to slow down and forget some many things we have learned over the years. This is my story, my life's journey and I hope to share it with those who love or have a passion for learning the fundamentals of marksmanship and wanting to grow into the best shooter they can be.

The shooting season has begun and so have the schools. With over 15 years of teaching on the firing line, the things we learn and see often have a great value to those planning on doing such events in the future. Especially those who are getting ready to experience a class for the first time. Regardless the class or the location, here are some things that are already standing out this season and are worthy of both sharing and discussing how to prevent these things from happening to you.

In this episode, we discuss at length, carbon fiber barrels...the good, the bad and truly how do you make a decision. Everyone building a custom rifle wants a great looking rifle. Should you choose carbon for that reason? What about a match or long range rifles, would it make a good choice there as well?
I have this conversation every week with customers. I really want to share with you my personal throughts on why you may want to choose it or on the other hand why you may not want to choose it. There is a lot of misinformation on the pros and cons. I want to simply share with you what I know and have come to experience in buildling rifles for nearly two decades.
We hope you enjoy.

BAT Machine Co.
So, you have your hunting rifle or match rifle ready for the season and now it is time to practice. This is a fork in the road for most shooters. Hunting rifles often are expensive to shoot and have more recoil than most would enjoy for a full day at the range. Match rifles are made for shooting, but we often hold back because of the expense of the ammo, reloading components or simply you do not want to wear out your barrel. It's like having that 1973 Cuda (my dream car) and not taking it out of the garage for fear of putting miles on her.
Well you have two choices...just go and shoot the rifle and take the punishment and expense or build a trainer (think daily driver). A training rifle is more than just another tool, it is the tool that will allow you to grow as a marksman.
Now this should be a mirror of your working rifle. Now, if you cannot afford a second "clone" rifle, the good news is you can often just change out a barrel and bolt these days and turn it into your trainer, saving you some money.
Lastly, we talk about the caliber and why this decision is so important if you want to get the most from it and your training with it.

The art of self-reliance is often talked about in the prepping world for sure. But what about a marksman, shooter or budding competitor. Can you take care of your own rifle? Can you rebuild it if needed? Can you make repairs and do the maintenance needed to keep it in its best shooting condition? Now let's talk about being a well rounded shooter. Can you make your own ammunition? Can you change components to meet you current needs like going from a match round to a hunting round? Can you take advantage of what little components are available when things get hard to find to be able to keep shooting, competing and practicing?
These are all great questions and really the heart of what we are trying to do with our new online classes and the Wolf Pack. It's one thing to hand a customer his new rifle, but in many ways you are leaving them vulnerable to all the above and really limiting not only how much they will enjoy it but how long. All of these things are important and once the skills are learned. It changes you and your shooting forever. Finishing out all there is to learn to get the most from your rifle, knowing how to take care of it whether repairs or upgrades and lastly being able to make you very own high quality ammunition puts you in a league of your own. Giving you the confidence to shoot and enjoy your rifle and your shooting for the rest of your life. This is our biggest step in trying to help finish that curve through education no matter factory or custom. We would like to invite you to look at our new program we call The Wolf Pack.
Lastly our PSA. Ricochets! There was a phone call and a YouTube video that was shared with me. This hidden danger is rarely spoken about and in my mind is so important. I want to share with you things to keep you safe and those around you even though they may be miles away.

In all the years of shooting I have learned a valuable lesson. Shooting is a lot like flying in the sense that the recoil is a lot like turbulence. If you have a lot of it, you better be a very skilled pilot. Why, because you will be fighting it and correcting for its influence constantly. It can scare you, it will fatigue you and even make you want to call it quits (once you are on the ground of course). It will push all of your senses to the brink of numbness as you yank the joystick to counter act its influence and try to keep the plane on course. If you ask any skilled pilot if they would like to voluntarily go fly in turbulence just for fun, they would look at you like you are absolutely crazy. Yet we voluntarily choose to shoot heavy recoiling rifles.
Is this the year to think small caliber? We have had more fired groups submitted this December of thrilled clients shooting crazy impressive groups than ever before. Part of it is skill, but with a multitude of 22 Creedmoors going out the door and the pictures coming back over and over again from those rifles one truth cannot be denied. People shoot lighter recoiling rifles better. Lower recoiling rifles help most people shoot better than they ever dreamed they where capable of. Like flying that plane through silky smooth air with two fingers on the joystick, the plane is easy to control and you are having the time of your like doing it with little to no effort required.
If you want to shoot better, get a smaller caliber. This will not only improve your quality of shooting simply because it's just easier to repeat the processes. But it will also put the word fun back in your vocabulary and a smile back on your face. Punishment and suffering the consequences of heavy recoiling rifles hurt more than most realize. Not just in the form of physical pain, but the disappointment of not believing in yourself or your ability to shoot. It's like a pilot coming in after a terrifying flight in turbulence believing that it was his lack of skills that was the problem, not the turbulence he just flew through. Don't just survive shooting, get a small caliber to see what you're truly capable of. You just might surprise yourself and have some pictures to proudly share of your own.

Because it's all about that ACE, 'bout that ACE - no trouble. Okay, trying to be a little funny here. But, on the last part of this series, "The Story of the Ace," it truly is about making the ACE at volume and at exceptionally high accuracy. This is no small feat, to say the least, separating yourself from the accepted machines and machining practices and looking to the aerospace industry. If you want to make world class components, you cannot do it on the same equipment that most big and small manufacturers in the gun industry are using. Hanging a sign on the front door that reads "we build the best," but the sign above the entrance to the shop floor reads "we use equipment of bare minimum quality, just good enough to get by with” is contradictory.
I am not throwing stones, but am committed to not just talking the talk. If you truly believe what you are saying and selling, shouldn't your actions be mirroring your words? Commitment means buying equipment that is 3 to 5 times more expensive than the accepted production brand machine in our industry. You get what you pay for and if you want 3 to 5 times the accuracy and quality out the machine, it's going to cost you. You cannot make Ferrari's using equipment from the Kia plant, nor should you be selling your customers a Kia when promising Ferrari quality. If you are going to commit and make that promise of delivering the highest quality to the customer, you cannot renege on your promise of quality when it comes time to writing the checks and putting the machines on the floor that are needed to deliver on your promise.
I don't mean to sound harsh, but I get tired of the the $3000 custom cowboy hat selling their commitment of the very best quality to you, while deceitfully using throw away machines to make the product after you hand over a lot and in some cases even excessive amounts of hard earned cash. "The most accurate hunting rifle in the world" or "1000 yards out of the box" are only taglines when you are using one of the cheapest brands of machines on the market or worn our recycled machines from the 90's or even older.
We knew building the ACE was going to be hard. We knew holding the tolerances needed to build a rifle as close to perfect as humanly possible was going to be harder. We knew doing all of this at scale meant the machines where going to be expensive and of aerospace quality. We did not talk ourselves out of it or try to find ways to justify anything less. "That's the machine everyone else is using" was not a good enough sales pitch to change our minds. The sign that hangs in our entrance reads "Home of the ACE". Our commitment to the best is on our lobby wall. And, our commitment to building the very best is clear regardless of what door you walk through, including our machine shop. We want to build the best and offer it at a price most can afford. We intend to keep both of those promises. We build to a standard, not a price and our products are premised on optimal performance and engineering excellence.
So would you spend a million dollars to develop the next generation of accuracy driven rifles? We did and are 100% committed to the cause and to stay the course. It's the writing on our wall and a promise we made to our customers. We want to wish a Merry Christmas to everyone and are looking forward to a great new year in 2024! Thanks for all the support!

In this episode, we go into the deep end on rifle barrels. There is so much more here than meets the eye and the more you know, the more you want to know. This is a working component of the rifle that will either allow your rifle to shoot to it's full potential or rob your rifle's other components of the glory they should be realizing. Make no mistake about it, it is that important.
I think where most people fail is they think the magic happens when the chamber is cut. That cannot be further from the truth. The magic is already in the barrel when it was made. Our job is to not take any of that away while we transform it from a barrel blank to a working part of the rifle.

In this episode, we dive into chassis. All is not as it seams. There is a difference and its more that what meets the eye. Sounds familiar. There are a lot of areas you could use these phrases, but none are more important than when trying to select a chassis. We have some tips, trips and just general advice to help you make the best decision for you.
With spending time with and helping train the professionals we count on every day to save lives in the worst of times. Rarely have I even encountered such a great shooting team using tripods. They accomplished this because they have the concept of training right. Most people practice only what they are the best at. The best always practice what they are the weakest at. It was a pleasure spending time with such a great group and a breath of fresh air on how they train and why. We talked about this concept in the past, but this is the result of putting the talk to practice.

In this episode we go over the difference between stocks and chassis. How to choose what would be right for you and what you are going to use it for. We wanted to go over BDC reticles and turrets. This is one area that most new shooters fall into with out realizing what little there is to learn to get beyond it and really understanding ballistic. BDC reticles and turrets are a way to keep you from learning minutes and mils by bypassing the learning process. When in the end you will always be a better shooter, have better D.O.P.E. and become a more intuned shooter with the environment if you just learned to use minutes or mils.

We tackle the common question we get asked all the time. Should I upgrade my factory rifle or just go custom? The honest answer is it depends on several factors and your end goals. What are you starting with quality wise for your factory rifle and what you are trying to accomplish. I think most people go custom because they want a rifle they can trust, have faith in and always know they can count on it to do its job every time without worry.
This is a great topic to cover and we hope you enjoy us diving behind the scenes trying to answer a common question we get asked here at the shooting school all the time.

I want to share a really cool story on how in the last 5 classes, 3 were won by the newest or the student with the least experience. We have a top gun hat awarded in each class. This goes to the highest scoring shooter. I wanted to reflect on my thoughts on how this is possible, as it has been something I have been thinking heavily about over the last couple weeks.
From the trenches. Now and then I want to add a segment for small business owners or for those running them on some tips, tricks and simply a tilt of the hat out of respect and wonder on how any exist at all. It's not easy, so we want to share some encouragement and some food for thoughts from time to time. In this episode, we want to keep encouraging you to stand back up and get back into the fight.

In this episode we discuss the difference between price and cost. When you are looking to build your custom rifle, the action gets a back seat to caliber and stock. But in the grand scheme of things, can cost you the most as far as the quality of your final project and the enjoyment you will get out of it. They look the same, but they are not all equal. The biggest problem to most is they don't know how to evaluate what they are really getting for there hard earned money. We want to share with you our thoughts and why we choose Bat Machine Co.

So with a sad heart we left king of the Mountain. We never really explained why, so I thought this would be a great opportunity to talk a little about the added levels of responsibilities and the positions you get put in when having to make decisions when others are depending on you. So if you even plan in running an event, we have some pointers for you and things to careful with when others are involved. More importantly the difference between hosting and running an event. It takes your responsibilities at a whole new level.
We are excited that the new range is almost complete and two new events (Practical Tactical Shooters Challenge) are scheduled. We are also slowly moving forward on our ACE System Kit Rifles with new YouTube video coming soon.

In this episode we go over a great listener Q and A about training for new shooters and the dangers of doing it too close to the start of the match or hunt. So we had a great customer call in getting ready for his first match. He is getting ready and bam, panic sets in that something is wrong. This is not the first call I have received like this and for new shooters there is some sound advice that applies for not just match preparation but for hunting preparation as well. I want to share with you my advice for this subject that I have given many times. For new shooters it will help you get the match and start it with your head in a great place.

One nagging question is whether or not a rifle chamber is a verb or a noun. Can you change one to the other? The funny part is, the rifle is made up of tangible working components. All of them are a noun except (unitl now) the rifle chamber. The chamber was a service, a job, something you had done. Don't believe me? Walk into a gun store and ask to buy just a rifle chamber and see just what funny looks you get.
The ACE system finishes or completes the rifle into a true all-component status. The chamber is now a stand alone working part of the rifle, a tangible usable and reusable part separate of the barrel. We don't thow away an action when the barrel is shot out, nor the stock. That would be crazy. But, we throw away what could be one of the most important parts of the rifle, the chamber. As it was, up until now, was simply a service provided to the barrel.
In the future, picking the chamber as a selected part is now a reality. Buying a good one and using it over and over again has finally came to fruition. The only service that a builder or gunsmith provided that you could not complete the rifle without them, was the chamber. That is no longer the case! The future of a true component based rifle system is here, with each and every part a stand alone entity with the ablity to be changed, swapped or re-used at the owner's will or discretion. You no longer need to rely on the service of a third- pary machinist or shop.
Welcome the new ACE System Kit Rifles! Coming soon in 2024! Stay tuned!

In this epsidode, Jamie and Richard talk about the .308. Is it still relevant as a modern, capable cartridge. They diiscuss both the pros and cons on why someone would choose, or not choose...making a case for both sides of the arguument.
One thing I would like to point out. Jamie and Richard both have decades of experience with the .308 for almost all purposes possible including as a match rifle, hunting rifle and varmint rifle. So, this is not just an opinion of someone's thoughts on the caliber, but real world advice from extensive experience with it in the field.

In reloading, there are many mindsets and techniques, many of which can lead you down a path of heartache, confusion, pain, suffering, sorrow and yes even death. Many reloaders obsess over things they have read or secret formulas they have heard of, thinking that this is the secret they have been waiting for. This new process will most certainly make them the best shooter in the world.
Now on to the truth. Many of the things you read, hear and see being peddled by forums or influencers is not just hog wash, but many times just flat out stupid and dangerous and puts not only yourself in harms way, but selfishly putting others in harms way as well.
A young man called to ask some questions, over a 30 minute conversation, the conclusion was made "you cannot get there from here". You have gone down the wrong road so far, that getting from A to B, or from dangerous to safe is no longer possible. With all good intentions, the advice was to shoot factory ammo until he could buy all new components and with a reloading manual start from scratch following the instructions step by step. It is my belief that if more new reloaders would follow this simple advice, they would make better, safer and easier to find loads than they ever thought possible. And, in the end, making it a win / win for everyone, including the person shooting next to you whose life is possibly in your hands.

In the episode we discuss a micro segment that will be up and coming in future shows we call "From the Trenches". A business segment where we talk shop, interview business owners and offer real world advice from being in the trenches as a start up 17 years ago. The challenges, struggles, choices and efforts needed to start, run and grow a small business in the US today.
We also announce a new class for new shooters as an introduction to long range shooting. Thanks to a great conversation with one of our Alumni and how they got hooked in the art of long range shooting. We decided we need to really set back and look at a way to introduce to new shooters, not only the art of what we do, but the enjoyment that can be had doing it.
Lastly, making the case for the 7PRC. From a call to the podcast. A conversation on not just the PRC, but on calibers, choices and the differance between the power of marketing and a caliber having staying power. How do you choose the best when every year we are sold the "New Best" or "Must Have" caliber?

In this episode, we dive into our top three choices for caliber selection for new shooters for both hunting and long range competition. We take into consideration that in a lot of cases we are talking to new or newer shooters that are often overwelmed with information that can be good, bad or even opinions, based on no experience in the subject in which they are offering advice. Usually with no bad intentions, but repeating what they have heard or read from others that is sometimes accepted as the gospal truth. We try to give this advice as if you are our freind, setting across the table and asking us for our honost unbiased opinion. We share not just our selection, but how we made our choices and the critera we used. We hope this helps you with some alternative choices with caliber selection for getting into this type of shooting. We know you will enjoy every day at the range.

In part 6 of our series, we dive into factory or custom rifle. Please note we said "or" and for good reason. You can always argue the points of how a custom rifle is better or why you should go custom. But for us, or for us talking with new shooters, it's not a versus argument but an "or" decision on which would be a better fit for you starting out. One could always argue a Tesla is a better car, but for who. For someone new to driving, someone on a budjet or a college kid delivering pizza? Having the best is not always the right choice and certainly not an argument to be had with new shooters or those wanting to give it a try. The cost of getting into long range shooting itself is enough of a deterent when it coomes to the equipment needed besides the rifle. Then, factor in someone demanding it can only be done with the best and we will lose most new shooters.
We want the conversation to be factory or custom. We want to talk a little on how we would approach the decision and what questions to ask yourself. We want you to get started in the best way possible for you. Here are some things we took into consideration and what we have learned as we grew in our passion for the art of long range or precision shooting.

I was introduced to Matt Rinella by a customer and with that, grew into a conversation about hunting and the industry, in general. Matt is a passionate outdoorsman who with the best intentions is trying to bring to light the damage that social media, TV, advertisers, influencers and even investors are doing to our industry. It was a great interview and a subject that is well worth a listen.

The last part to this series is called "bits and bobs". All the little things you will need besides the rifle and optics to get started in learning and mastering the art of marksmanship or fundamentals. I think in this case, less but better is always a good approach. Don't fall into or become a victim of G.A.S. "gear acquisition syndrome". Here, staying true to our craft and using simple everyday tools or items you would take to a field match or a hunt is gear. Learn the fundamentals, not the gear. Take full advantage of all your gear as you grow, but don't learn to rely on it to make the shot or to be a great marksman. This is the list of things you need, pure and simple.

So we interrupt this program to bring you a special announcement...not everything you see or read is true, real or even possible by us mere mortals.
We were speaking with Matt Rinella, of the Hunt Quietly Podcast, and could not believe how parallel our two worlds of hunting and shooting align, from advertising, Facebook, YouTube, Influencers and yes even "Jack Asses" like the movie, but only with rifles and shooting. These "Jack Asses" hurt our image as marksman and professionals and put these ridiculous clips up for all to watch and think that their "edited" abilities are the normal that you must live up to. Or they sell you equipment with such lines and professional influencers that the snake oil salesman would be proud.
We need to set the bar on what a true marksman is and how they should truly gauge themselves as they grow. We need people to put up content that is true, unbiased, untainted by corporate greed and with professionalism and safety at its core. So all those on the outside watching want to learn more about or be a part of this positive and professional image. We need to stop glorifying and "following" those whose stupid stunts and plain stupidity, by accident or intent, are there only to draw millions of clicks and money in their pockets. These stunts make our sport and industry look like the cast of "Jack Ass" found a new area to produce content in and portray us all in that light.
Hits for clicks or stunts for followers with firearms and shooting is bad for our industry, our sport and sets a poor example to our youth and the outside world watching. Hunt Quietly is a good example for our shooting and hunting world to follow if we want this sport and industry to be seen in a positive light.

We have talked about this is in the past...our industry selling out to cheaper labor and products overseas and bringing them here to our market for high profits. Don't fall victam to this scam. Ask the questions and do your research. Our fathers and grandfathers have said, you should spend 2 to 3 times the cost of the rifle on your optics. They were right then for the same reason they are right now. This age-old wisdom is not just timeless but more true now than ever. Combine that with the marketing and branding power of today's corperations and you can follow that rule and still wind up with a $500 scope made in China or the Phillippines. The only difference is, you paid $2000.00 for it not realizing that you bought a scope that was made overseas for $250 to $500. Wow!
Start asking the questoins and when you are searching for quality, don't be fooled, suckered or shamed by corperate America and it's greed (insert chinese businesses and partners).

In part II of our series, we were going to discuss rifle stocks. The truth is your approach should be a wholistic. If you want to enjoy yourself at the range and grow as a marksman, simply do not compromise when it comes to quality in any part or piece of your rifle. It matters and it matters a lot. The difference between a great day at the range and a bad day is the gear you make the decision on purchasing. A lot of rifles and manufacturers make compromises on the products they make and sell for many reasons. Price, ease of manufacturing or even in an effort to make more profit. In the end, it all means the same, they compromised for you and got paid to do so. At our Long Range Shooting School, we see it all the time. Three times this year already, two of which where with 5K plus rifles. So just spending more isn't the answer either. Do you homework, ask the questions and follow you instinct. In accuracy it all matters, every single component.

We want to share with you all the good, bad and ugly that happens with the decisions people make when selecting equipment. So we want to go over all the things you should think about and give you some advice on each so you can make the best educated decision possible. In the end, we want you to enjoy this sport, but too ofter the decisions made while selecting equipment to get started leads down a path of frustration and ultimately leading some to just give up. With just finishing up a class and having years of trying to sort out semi custom and home built rifles on the firing line. I am finally ready to give my opinion as to when you should go custom. I am also here to point out pretty bluntly, that although I find most people to have good intentions, you know the saying on the road to hell being paved with them.
Over the years I have been put in harms way many times. Part of it came with the job. But now, it seems that the rifles being home built or sold as pre-fits have come main stream and I need to put a shout out here. I have seen so many situations arise from the unexpected customer of these sellers and builders. Some so dangerouse that it makes me think twice whenever I am out with a group of unknown shooters. Having seen everything from unfinished chambers, unspinning barrels, suppressors explode, suppressors shot off and in several occasions catching problems just in time to prevent a catastrophy.
I hope you enjoy this one and I hope it gives you some ideas on what you can get yourself into when it comes to home built or pre-fit customs. It might save you time, money or even your life.

In the custom rifle world, we deal with this issue all the time..."drop in" or "drop fit" stocks and chassis. Too often the marketing powers that be decide to use the term "drop fit," saying that you just bolt it in and your rifle will shoot better and fit without a problem. However, there is a huge difference between fitting, fitting well and fitting perfectly. This can play out with not just accuracy and repeatability issues, but can lead to eventual damage to your rifle. Don't fall victim to this word play. If you want to get the best from your rifle with this type of upgrade, have it fitted or at the very least checked to make sure you have enough of the right contact. If it does not, than you should have it bedded by a professional.
We also want to invite a couple of listeners to the show to share their stories of their hunt or match experiences in a series we are calling "preparing for the hunt" and "preparing for the match." Please email us your stories, both the good the bad, to our email address at contact@wolfprecison.net for your chance to be chosen to come on the air and be part of the show. We will be selecting the top three entries, so submit yours today. Please put in the subject line - "Preparing for the hunt" or "Preparing for the match."

In this podcast, we finish up our series with talking about 4DOF and the good, bad and ugly of it. We also dive into some tips and tricks to help you get your rifle up and running and keep it up and running. Getting true D.O.P.E. for your rifle is by far one of the most important things you can do to become a better marksman. That said, most put the least effort into this area and even less take the time to learn and understand it. We hope this series helps you to get your rifles D.O.P.E. truly dialed and help bring your shooting up to the next level.

I say this often, there are many matches in the past where I have placed or won but was not the best shooter there. What pushed me to the top at several events was knowing and having confidence in my D.O.P.E. at distance. You can do everything right fundamentally, and if you're D.O.P.E. is off, it will mean a miss or at least a less than perfect shot. You cannot runaway or hide from this issue. It exist and you have to iron it out for your individual rifle. This will keep more shots on target and leave you with a little better sense of confidence in yourself and your equipment.

In this podcast we go over the B.C. trap that most shooters fall into. When we are calculating our D.O.P.E. for our rifle, we use this number as if it is the gospel truth. The problem, it is more of a guideline than a fact. Your rifle barrel can deform and transform you bullet as it passes through the bore. This changes the B.C. from rifle to rifle like a fingerprint. If you want to learn how to get great D.O.P.E. for your rifle, you need to be aware of this problem and in later episodes how we try to fix it.

In this episode we go over the start of our series on how to get good working dope for your rifle. There are several things we are going to cover while diving into this subject with one being the issue with the curvature of the rifle bore. I said that right, the rifle bore. You're rifling inside your barrel is curved and although most don't talk about it, most don't even know about it. It has several issues with a rifles accuracy while trying to build, but for shooters, it causes issues with trying to figure out how to get good working D.O.P.E. for your rifle. Here is a couple videos to show you just how common this is and how some try to fix it, including bending the barrel to straighten out the inside. Amazing to watch and jaw dropping to think that is so bad that it has to be bent back out after the barrel has been made. Below are a couple YouTube videos posted by others showing the process. We talk about getting dope and hard copies of it at the end of this podcast. But this is just as much a business podcast as it is a shooting podcast. Many of you have traveled with us through the years as a business and are business owners or persons of responsibilities yourselves. We all have to make the arduous and gut wrenching decisions on money and equipment purchases. I wanted to share with your our thought processes and decision making processes that we have to go through just like everyone else. Maybe by sharing our approach, we can help or give some ideas that you might find useful in the future in your decision making processes. We hope you enjoy this behind the scenes look on making some of the biggest purchasing decisions of our lives.

Jamie and Richard dive into the last part of this mini series with some final thoughts and advice, one of which is you have to get out and shoot! Knowledge and wisdom are not the same. Knowledge is knowing a tomato is a fruit; wisdom is knowing not to put it in a fruit salad. If you want to become a better shooter, you have to grow beyond the studies and research. In the end, you have to commit to getting to the range (with a plan) and spending quality time on the rifle squezing the trigger. This is where you will master the craft and will go from good to great.

We just closed on the biggest project we have ever undertaken and this was not on purpose or planned. Things happen in business as in life that at first glance look like bad luck, bad news or an insurmountable obstacle that has just landed in your path. At 52, this still catches me off guard and can shake you to your core. But these things that at first glance appear to be a negative, are often the things you needed to challenge you and force you outside your comfort zone to grow and stretch is ways you never before thought possible.
That is what happened to us a week before Christmas 2022. After being given just 4 months to move and close our business from it's current location, to be candid, the drive home felt like the walls closing in. But this time with decades of these obstacles being put in my path and eventually overcome, I kept faith. I put my boots on and went to work trying to find a new location. Weeks went by with not a remotely close candidate for a building that would fill our needs, but still we kept looking and trying.
This past Thursday, on February the 23rd, just two short months to the day of this devastating news, we are now owners of our own manufacturing facility along with two new world class machines being delivered shortly. A building so perfect for all we do, that we could not have drawn it out any better from scratch. Not to mention, it is 1 mile from our home and up until January, we didn't even know it existed.
I want to share with you our story and to encourage all small businesses out there to keep the faith and keep moving forward. To look at obstacles not as hurdles you cannot get over, but as challenges that are put there to make you grow, stretch and mold you into the owner that must you become to handle the future that is ahead of you.
This has played out many times in my life and to this day, I often find myself looking up at the mountain way up high and wondering, is that even possible? Only to find myself weeks, months or years later on the other side. Keep the faith and know that these obstacles would not be put there if you were not ready to face them and know that what may seem impossible at first glance, are put there to take you to the next level.

In this podcast, we go over the concept of groups and the importance of how we look at them and use them. If you truly want to know where you are at in your ability to shoot accurately with consistancy, then you have to shoot some groups and, in doing so, you have to take an honest big picture approach. This allows you to have a true baseline on where you are at now, and a way you will measure your progress moving forward. Don't fall victim to skewing the numbers for bragging rights. Know where you are and work to get to where you truly want to be as a marksman.

In this episode we take on a listener question on "what is drving the rifle?". There are many truths to learning to shoot a rifle well. This concept of drving the rifle has more to it than meets the eye.
We also dive into machining and equipment. Why is it that those that are touting to be the best always settle for barely aceptable or less than ideal equipment. If just good enough is ok when it comes to selecting the machines that makes your high dollar rifle, what does that say about the company and how that probably applies to all the other choices they make. Its sort of back handed when you say your the best, say you build the best, but when it comes to the equipment you choose, you don't buy the best. This is what seperates those that talk the talk and those that walk the walk.
It is not cheap, easy or even for the faint of heart. If your companies true beliefs are you build the best, shouldn't your equipemnt you choose speak in volume and reflect it. Don't look behnd the curtain too far, as many in the industry say one thing on the sales floor, but won't put your money where there mouth is when it comes to investing in the best equipment for the job. Instead, the money goes into the pocket and your rifle is made on the cheapest equipement they can get by with.

In this episode we tackle what I think is the biggest misconception to precision shooting and it is how we are looking at it all wrong. No pun intended, but seeing is not believing. Most people think marksmanship or hitting a target is simply or mostly vision. Line the target up with the reticle and you hit everytime. To be honost that process is the easiest to do and has the smallest effect while trying to go from good to great. Change how you look at marksmanship, becouse most if it does not require your sight.

In this episode we talk about preparing for the range to train and having a purpose or goal. This is the first in a series in which we are going to dive into the fundamentals of marksmanship. This episode is from a customer that had stopped by this week who had watched and was a big fan of a video we produced called "All Hogs go to Heaven" part 1. And it reminded me on how making that video changed how we trained and how we have approached training ever since. Having a purpase, reason or goal really makes all the difference. So when you go to the range next time, go with a purpose in mind and train for a goal. We also want to wish all of you a Happy New Year from all of us here at Wolf Precision.

In this podcast, we continue on with more safety talk. This time, on how we approach training and things we should be thinking about when it comes to spending our time in the great outdoors. From match shooting to hunting, what we do can be dangerous and we accept that risk. But what about the little things we don't think about or take into consideration? From first aid kits, communications, strategies and training we should take to prepare ourselves in case the worst happens or a situation turns from an incident to life threatening. These things happen and situations can change in an instant. The gear you take, the training you attended and the safety precations built into your approach to being part of the outdoors can mean the difference between you making it home or on the list of the missing who too often are found deceased. We attended a class at Angel Trauma Solutions and it really awakened the realization that we should be doing more of this type of training and was a good reminder to always train and prepare as if your life or someone you love depends on it. The number one preventable death in America is from blood loss traumas and in some cases you may have less that two minutes to save a life. Thank you, Rick, for a great class and looking forward to having you on for an interview.

In this episode we take on a listener submitted question on hearing and hearing protection. What you hear may shock you. From what decibal ratings are, mean and what little protection some products actually propvide. Even though you think you are doing the right thing, you probably are still destroying you hearing one shot at a time. Like me, I thought I was protected and was I wrong. Take heed and take notes, this is a really important topic to tackle.
We also talk about our new rifle build kits. Would you install you own trigger to save nearly $1000 dollars on your next custom rifle? We think so. Also,

The top ten Elk Catridges. This video on YouTube has gotten our attention on the pitch and strike when it comes to forcing the belief you must use big hard hitting magnums as acceptable minimum caliber for Elk. There is so much wrong with those statements, mostly due to marketing, writers and the quest to have the biggest baddest caliber on the block. Too many times, new shooters and hunters get exposed to the "experts" and buy all in on the concept that a poor shot with a big magnum will still kill the animal. Not only it this not true, but the followers of this madness will all but ensure a bad shot as most new or young shooters cannot shoot them well. They will not enjoy shooting it, they will not practice as much because of it. And in a lot of cases will not go out and "waste" a lot of ammo training because of the $100 or more per box price.
You can accomplish more than you think will small and sometimes really small calibers. You will learn to shoot! You will practice because you will be having fun doing it. And when the time comes "shot placement and bullet selection" will put the trophy on the wall.
Don't fall for the "expert" writters opintions so easily. Take it all with a grain of salt. They are the car salesmen of the gun industry. They are beholden to and subservient. Don't believe me? I challenge you to go through your last 20 magazines and find one critical/bad review of any rifle. And don't think for a minute they are all expert marksmen or woodsmen at that too. We are working on a series of YouTube videos to balance the scales and to give you another point of view from people who love to shoot first and take the importance of marksmanship and one's abilities to shoot certain calibers well as a choice that should not be taken lightly.

In this episode, we cover a variety of topics including the movers class that we just finished, chassis for hunting, trigger failures and optics. The safety conversation on the potential for extremely dangerous trigger failures are worth the listen alone. One topic that I really think is worth a listen, too, is how to break in a scope and get it ready for repeatable long term use. We hope you enjoy the podcast as Richard joins us for another great episode.
Just when you thought we where out of the woods, here we go again. Just a friendly PSA on the rifle brass shortage that may be coming. If you need or may be in need of brass, we recommend buying what you need now. In this episode, we also talk about and dive into the wind, its concepts and how you should aproach it. It doesn't do or act on a bullet the way you may think or how common sense would tell you at first thought.
Lastly, we are excited to announce our new online long range shooting school course is live along with a new 2 day live fire event for those who attend. Learn from the convenience of you own home, then spend two days with us mastering what you have learned.

Let's talk about shooting, marksmanship and having confidence to drive the rifle. Knowing you can shoot and hit without technology when it's needed and when it counts the most. We also talk about having lists, pre-flight. Things you should be doing to prepare for the range before you go, things to do at the range and what you do when you get home. Having a list of things you check both before and after can save you a lot of grief when preparing for a hunt, match or range trip. I love pilots for this very reason. They have a checklist for everything, including pre-flight which I think is the most important.

We would like to introduce Richard Jones, a great long time friend and now team member here at Wolf Precision. We go way back in shooting together and really had some great experiences shooting and even traveling to matches and events. We talk about his history and background that brought him to America. What got him started in wanting to learn the art of long range shooting and even some future topics.
If you came to our schools in 2022 you may have met Richard already. If you call in you may talk with him on the phone. In this episode we talk about bedding, cerakote and barreled actions. We just returned from our trip to Redstone Arsenal, AL and Ft. Benning, GA. Bedding is a topic that came up and barreled action requests are common here at the shop. They both go hand in hand and with a new chassis in the shop being bedded as we speak, this was the right time to answer why we do not offer or sell just barreled actions. We have to see the rifle through to the very end if you are to have the success and accuracy you are expecting from it!

In this episode we take a question from Casey on carbon Vs steel barrels. We also dive into a little buisisness on the difference between innovation and creativity. I hope to encourage you to try to put some of your ideas to the test and make or invent that product or widget. Write that song, code or book. Too many times, the best inventions never see the light of day, simply becouse the creativity part was realized but never acted on to bring it to a realization. It is the greatest feeling in the world and i want to encourage everyone to so that they may experience it too. It will make your heart and soul smile if you do, so do it.
When we talk about the future of rifles, not just custom, you get a choice of two out of three options...quick, good (quality) and cheap. But you can only choose two. You want quality and you want it now, it's not going to be cheap. You want quality and cheap, it's not going to be quick. You want cheap and fast, its probably not going to be good good.
The major problem isn't that the perfect rifle can't be made by the highest quality gunsmith on his very best day and using the very best techniques. The problem is that the process is slow and not repeatable as scale. Because you are limited by that gunsmiths time and the qaulity of skill he apples that day.
If he speeds up, the quality goes down. It he is tired, the quality suffers. If he can make the perfect rifle on Monday, does he have the physical and mental stamina to maitinain that ultra high level of detail to attention for the rest of the week and every rifle he continues to build that week? Or does he tire, lose a little focus or just stop caring as much, maybe in an effort to just finish?
The ACE isn't the only way to build the perfect rifle, it is the only way to build the perfect rifle at scale. Achieving the same level of accuracy as the best gunsmith in the world on his very best day in a way that is production sustainable.
Our mission in creating the ACE was not in trying to find a way to make the perfect rifle, our mission was trying to find a way to make the pefect rifle every single time without relying on an individuals skill or abilities that day.
Which is where the ACE was born and the problem solved. As we move forward in the future, you can have the best, you can have it now and you can have it at a better price, every time with every rifle.
In this episode we discuss the final key to consistency when shooting and that is a mental checklist. The table top that sets on top the other 4 pillars and ties them all together. When put together giving you a sturdy platform to start growing to become a more consistent and accurate shooter.
In this episode, we continue on our four pillars of marksmanship series and focus in on follow through. Follow through is not an action, but an intentional inaction. Want to take your shooting to the next level? Follow through is usually the last missing key. We also discuss BDC turrets and why we don't use or even recommend them along with some updates on the 22 Creedmoor.

Leading into our next series on the 4 pillars of marksmanship. This podcast leads it off with trying to explain the difference between the fundamentals of marksmaship, training and application. When you are working on a new position, you are not working on the position per say. You are working on applying the fundamentals to that position. Totally different approach and mindset. The trick is, you have to master and fully understand the fundamentals first. This is where the next series starts.

In this episode we continue our series with talking about the action. The important details of all the things that we believe make a difference. We also cover in some great detail about how and why the barrels should be fitted to your reciever. As in all things in life, it can take twice the effort for that last 20% of improvement. In building the action and the fitment of the barrel this could not be more true.

In a world of evolution, one thing has remained the same for over 100 years. Chambering a barrel! In talking about the heart of an accurate rifle, the barrel itself holds a big portion of the potential. The chambering has the biggest counter effect on the barrel. If you have a .25 MOA capable barrel blank, you have to get it incorporated into the rifle without degrading it. Traditional chamber does anything but. From selecting the right barrel, knowing what to look for and options we avoid, selecting the barrel itself is a lot to think about. Thinking of the accuracy you will loose with your now prized barrel in hand after you send it off for traditional chambering using 100 year old old technology is mind boggling.

In this episode, we continue on our series with talking about chassis. Tactical chassis started to really get a foothold and take shape in the 90's to 2000's. With hunting chassis now beginning to take center stage, chassis are continuing to grow and take more market share every year. New materials like magnesium and carbon fiber along with end user changeable parts, hunting chassis are here to stay. However, they too are vulnerable to some shortcomings and design flaws. Here is some food for thought and things to take into consideration. To see more about Wolf Precision vist us at www.wolfprecision.net
In this episode we continue on our series with stocks. Traditional molded stocks started to take shape in the 70's and continued to make waves even through the 2000's. New materials, colors and shapes continue to evolve our options with new designs. However, molded stocks and the dated technology used in their making have and are vulnerable to some shortcomings. Done right, you can have a world class rifle. Done wrong and you will have a world of headaches. Here is some food for thought and things to take into consideration. You can see more about us and Wolf Precision at www.wolfprecision.net
In this episode we continue on our series of the heart of an accurate rifle. In part 2 we talk all about scopes. There is more here than meets the eye, no pun intended. At our school, we find this to be one of the biggest problem areas for attending students. Don't risk loosing the enjoyment of the sport by a poor or uneducated choice in your scope. It really matters, so take the time to get it right.

We launch into a multi-part series on the heart of an accurate rifle. Custom or otherwise, these parts matter and are the core or heart of the rifle. Everything else either leaves the rifle shoot to its ability or degrades it. But nothing and I mean nothing can impove it beyond these key elemnts. We hope you enjoy this mutli part series.

Lets face it, if we forced match shooters to shoot ultra-light rifles in magnum calibers, would they have the same score they normally would have with their match gun? In selecting a hunting rifle, we do everything the exact opposite a match shooter would do to shoot better. This is about to change and it has to do with several things happening at the same time: gear, calibers, and bullets.

EP 104 - What great shooters know is that weight matters and it is an aid to accuracy. What hunters know is weight matters and heavy rifles suck to carry. What great shooters know is small calibers are easier to learn and shoot more accurately when combined with a heavy rifle. What most hunters mistakenly think is that the bigger caliber, the better.
I can't think of any place where accuracy is more important than when trying to harvest an animal, yet most hunters do the complete opposite of what most great shooters know. They go light in terms of weight and big in terms of caliber. Both of these can have huge negative impacts on your ability to learn and grow as a shooter, along with your overall accuracy level.

In life, work, family and hobbies, it is more important to make a list of things you are going to say no to, to allow room for things you want to say yes to. Editing life is not about making highlight reels like so many others do. Its about choosing to do only the things that makes the reel in the first place. Choosing to live every moment as if our whole life was the highlight reel, not going back after the fact and picking out small portions to stitch together.
In this episode we have a great conversation with Seth Swerczek of Hornady Manufacturing. We talk about the history leading up to the new A-Tip match bullets and about the awesome 4-DOF program. A great conversation giving us some insight in the making of world class bullets and a peak behind the scenes of one of America's leading bullet manufacturers.
A tool that is most often overlooked when learning to become a well rounded marksman is learning to engage moving targets. It is a skill that will take you compeition shooting or hunting to the next level and could possibly save your hunt. We offer some tips and tricks to get you started and answer some common questions on suppressors and barreled actions.
EP 94 - Stoke the fire. In life and with our passions, we all have a tendency to let the fires burn down to embers or coals. If left go too long, they eventually go out, sometimes forever. You have to rekindle the fire and put more logs on. You have to reach your hand into the fireplace where it is sometime uncomfortable and the risk of getting hurt or burned is inevitable. The rewards, though not always instant, can and will be enjoyed by you and those around you feeling the radiant heat it provides. Our passions fill us with that fire, that glow that others will take notice too. When we are happy and pursuing our passions, others come set beside us and enjoy the glow that will radiate. Like a fire giving off warmth, it is inviting and inspiring to others. Stoke your fire!
In this episode we want to go over and answer some great questions submitted by you the listeners. We also want to go over some new and excited projects we are working on here for 2022. New classes and new line of Ultra Light rifles series. This is a good one, we hope you enjoy it.

In this episode we want to wish everyone a safe and Happy New Year. We also want to touch base on why we love anything and everything outdoors. It's about the adventures. We are slowly turning into an indoor species and for many of us, myself included, too much time indoors starts to feel like a life sucking prison. We need the outdoors and the many kinds of adventures that await us there. It is what fuels us, keeps us sharp and fills our souls and hearts with memories and the feeling of being alive. Live your life to the fullest, follow your calling and go and seek your adventure!

Sometimes it is the little things that will cause you the most heartache. Whether custom or factory, new or well broken in. If your rifle is not shooting or suddenly stops shooting so well. Don't panic, take a look at these common issues that can pop up at anytime and really cause shooters some serious heartburn and grief.
In episode 84, we continue into our custom rifle building series with part 7 and the little things that matter! When you are finishing your rifle it is usually the small and often overlooked details that create the biggest headaches. In this episode we talk about the big rocks or priorities in life. With the 20th anniversary of 9/11 coming up it makes you reflect on what is important in life. I wanted to finally share a tribute song written for a fallen friend to start a scholarship in his name at his high school.
In this episode we begin our 4 part series for laying the foundation to the fundamentals of marksmanship! Part 1: The set up! It is where everything starts and where many things go wrong introducing error into the shot before you even get on the rifle to pull the trigger. Want to improve your shooting instantly? Pay attention to the small details that matter and it all starts here.
In this episode we discuss the 4 pillars for laying the foundation to the fundamentals of marksmanship. We discuss the upcoming series to truly understanding where to start learning the fundamentals.
We discuss why it is so important to learn to use all your equipment for all you can get out of it. There a so many ways to use just a few pieces of everyday kit to make and stabilize your shots without having to buy and bring every gadget under the sun. That weight savings in your pack will allow you build and carry a little heavier rifle without increasing the overall weight of your kit. Prioritizing your weight management to maximize or favor the benefits to you as a shooter.
Go and do it now! I have learned something about the shooting school event itself that I want to share. With all things in life, taking three days to spend time together is about relationships. Building, healing, bonding and growing. In life we rarely get to spend three days uninterrupted doing anything with the people we love. I am always amazed to watch the joy and smiles those three little days bring. No matter the hobby or the event, do not hesitate, just go and do it now. The people in our lives are too important and those moments too precious to wait.
Whether you're putting your new rifle together or re-assembling it after cleaning or maintenance. Details matter, even the smallest ones if you want any level of repeatability. That includes using quality tools like fix it stixs.
I was asked about all the troubles and to go into detail on the struggles of making great reloads. Truth be told, I could not answer or even relate to the question or those who enjoy that kind of torture. My advice, just make simple great reloads and enjoy the shooting. Pain and suffering is not required.
Lessons from the firing line: Predicting your shot! A guaranteed way to increase or decrease your hit percentages and the choice is yours. Believe you can, trust your abilities and practice to reinforce both.
Lessons from the firing line: distracted shooting! A guaranteed way to increase or decrease your hit percentages and the choice is yours. Learn to focus only on the shot at hand!
Driving the rifle! The fundamentals of marksmanship that you must know, understand and focus on if you want to go from good to great!
The compounding effect of annealing and HBN bullet coatings when used together! In this episode we discuss annealing and HBN bullet coatings and why they make a win/win/win scenario when used together. Its all about getting the most out of all of your components while potentially extending the shooting life of your barrel.
Choosing the right binoculars, don't take it lightly! There is more to think about than just the quick glance and feel we usually apply when purchasing this really important item.
A solution to helping correct the current ammo, powder and primer crisis! As shooters and hunters, we are vulnerable to those outside our world when they decide to jump in and take advantage of a vulnerable situation. This profiteering goes on more than you know and is more organized than ever. We hold the key that not only would put a stop to profiteering, but in doing so, would bring back the order of getting the product back in the cycle of producer to consumer.
Making the case for the 22 Creedmoor! In this episode we discuss what might be one of the best cartridges to come about in decades. The 22 Creedmoor has been flying under the radar for years and with the advent of a whole new line of bullets is poised take the hunting and shooting world by storm.
The health of the outdoor industry in America! Corporate greed, the copying of best practices and a market ripe for the picking. Our outdoor industry is in trouble! The closing of American facilities in favor of cheaper overseas labor is putting lesser quality products on our shores while still asking us to pay premium prices. Corporate America and its investors have turned their eyes to every part of the outdoor industry looking to gain access to our wallets through slick marketing and cheap overseas manufacturing. They are not looking to make great and innovative products for our industry. They are looking to make profits from our industry. Flush with cash, they are using any and every available product or brand they can find or abuse to flood our markets with cheap and easily made overseas products, including scopes, binoculars, tents, coolers, clothing, boots and electronics. And, these are just the tip of the iceberg. You name it, they are making it and soon could control most if not all of it. What happens if they decide we no longer need such items and in our best interest decide we can't get them? When our American outdoor industry is gone and its workers are out on the street, who will be left to protect and preserve our heritage for future generations. With a decimated industry, who could afford the fight?
Episode 70 - Preparing for the Match, part 4. Training more efficiently and effectively while using less ammo! The 2021 shooting season is upon us with ammo and reloading components in short supply. You can still train and obtain great improvements. Learning to train efficiently and effectively is more important now than ever. Don't stop training, learn to train better. We have been teaching to train this way for more than a decade. You will learn to get the most from your time at the range along with the added benefit of saving valuable resources for the match.
In this episode, we are excited to have a chance to talk to Mr. John Markwell. John has been involved in the shooting industry and competition world for decades and shares some great insight and advice, a lot of it drawn from his years as a writer, varmint hunter, competitor, match director and match organizer.
Episode 68 - Preparing for the Match, part 2. In this episode, we are going to continue into our "Preparing for the Match," series. Going over all the things you should be doing, taking into consideration and preparing to become a competitive shooter.
Episode 67 - Preparing for the Match part 1. In this episode we start into our "Preparing for the Match," series. Going over all the things you should be doing, taking into consideration and preparing to become a competitive shooter.
Episode 65 - The new Igniter Action and getting the next generation of shooters started! We are excited to introduce the new Igniter action and talk about why we use Bat actions. We also discuss getting the next generation of long range shooters safely started.
Episode 64 - Lister Q & A and the new Igniter action. In this episode we discuss multiple listener submitted questions on subjects ranging from reloading, optics, earmuffs and more. We also excited to announce the highly anticipated Igniter action and our new winter long range shooting schools.
Episode 63 - Preparing for the Hunt part 2. In this episode we take a look from the guides prospective. We have a great interview with western guide and good friend Brock M. Brock shares some great tips and advice from his years of guiding big game hunters out west. We also tackle a great customer submitted question at the end of the show.
