Episode overviewIn this episode, Deborah Mallow, a motivational speaker and “ray of sunshine,” shares practical ways to choose happiness, interrupt negative thinking, and bring more light into everyday life. A central theme is the power of simple tools—like a gratitude jar—to retrain the brain to notice what is going right instead of what is wrong.

About Deborah Mallow* Deborah is a positive energy and success coach who helps people shift out of self-sabotage and chronic negativity. * She is the author of “6 Steps to Fewer Days That Suck,” where she offers stories, strategies, and science-backed tips for cultivating a more uplifting mindset.

Key topics discussed* Negativity bias and the brain: How the brain’s ancient focus on problems and danger creates more “bad days” than necessary, and what it takes to interrupt that pattern. * Being personally considerate: Treating yourself with the same kindness you offer others and replacing harsh self-talk with more supportive thoughts. * Small daily practices: Simple habits—like dancing to a favorite song or using a “make me smile” box—that help your nervous system shift toward calm, joy, and resilience.

The gratitude jar practice* Deborah explains the gratitude jar: writing one good thing each day on a slip of paper and dropping it into a jar to create a visible record of what’s going well. * On tough days, pulling out a few slips offers concrete reminders that life holds many moments of joy, connection, and progress, even when current circumstances feel heavy.

Practical takeaways* Start with one small shift: notice when your mind spirals into worst-case scenarios and gently ask, “What would I rather be thinking right now?” * Create your own happiness tools: a gratitude jar, a smile box, or a short list of “go-to” feel-good activities to use when your mood dips. * Remember that you have more control over your daily happiness than you think; your choices and focus can steadily lead to fewer days that “suck.”

Challenges Faced by Women Veterans @ 3:11Women make up 17% of the U.S. military's active duty force, but face distinct challenges upon returning to civilian life. Upcoming Retreat and Funding Needs @ 17:45Invisible Warriors is planning a 5-day outdoor retreat for women veterans, providing counseling, activities, and a supportive environment at no cost to participants. The organization is seeking sponsors and donors to fund this and other programs.

Broader Impact and Call to Action @ 18:56Invisible Warriors' work has the potential to transform lives and influence how veteran care is approached on a broader scale. The organization is advocating for systemic changes to better support women veterans, and invites volunteers and donors to join their important mission.

Managing chronic pain is overwhelming for those living with and providing treatment for chronic pain. The demand of patients’ complex needs cause provider burnout, while chronic pain sufferers describe their experience as an “invisible disability.”

I crushed three vertebrae after a fall from a balcony leading to excruciating pain in my neck, back, and entire body. I know first-hand how chronic pain leads to significant depression and other adverse consequences. For 10 years I was significantly dependent on opioids and sedatives.

Then I learned to manage my pain more effectively.

My recovery began at the Mayo Pain Rehabilitation Clinic. I learned about pain science: by changing our behavior around pain it reinforces that we are not in danger of pain causing us further harm, and it builds confidence in breaking the cycle of pain.

Moving Through Chronic Pain uses proven skill-building practices to encourage self-efficacy managing life with chronic pain. We facilitate deeper connections between those living with chronic pain and their community of providers, employers, and family members. We offer a safe environment of learning and sharing to enhance people and providers lives.

We will be talking about all things chronic pain. Lots of great information.

Living with an invisible disability is a highly individualized experience, shaped by the nature and severity of the specific condition. These disabilities encompass a wide range of health issues, from chronic pain and mental health disorders to autoimmune diseases and neurological conditions. What sets them apart is their hidden nature, making it challenging for others to grasp the daily struggles and limitations faced by those affected. Often, individuals with invisible disabilities cope with fluctuating symptoms, which can disrupt their routines and require flexible accommodations. They frequently encounter skepticism, misunderstanding, and even stigma from society, adding emotional strain to their already complex journey. Self-advocacy becomes a crucial skill, as they navigate the need for accommodations, educate others about their condition, and strive to strike a balance between managing their health and pursuing their goals.

Invisible disabilities can take a toll on a person's mental and emotional well-being, contributing to feelings of isolation and frustration. Despite these challenges, many individuals with invisible disabilities demonstrate remarkable resilience and determination, finding ways to adapt, seek treatment, and build supportive networks. The support and understanding of friends, family, employers, and healthcare providers play a vital role in helping them live fulfilling lives. Ultimately, recognizing and acknowledging the unique struggles and triumphs of those with invisible disabilities is essential to fostering empathy, inclusion, and a more supportive society.

It can take 5-7 years to get a correct diagnosis for a chronic illness. Many people with chronic illnesses are misdiagnosed with psychological conditions and are prescribed antidepressant medications.

A large scale awareness is required about chronic illnesses and their handling. Many are grappling with understanding their illness and are not sure how to handle their diagnosis and treatment plans. Further Advocacy is needed for doctors to better understand and diagnose such issues.

The speaker describes how individuals can start taking control of their inner experience by understanding and managing their thoughts, allowing themselves to experience emotions without being consumed by them, and attuning themselves to their body's responding sensations.

As a woman, do you feel like you're in charge of your healthcare?

As a woman, do you feel like you're informed about your own health?

Are you confidently managing or are you unknowingly mismanaging your health?

In this episode, Host Nancy Becher and guest Susan Salenger answers these questions. Susan is the Author of SIDELINED: How Women Manage & Mismanage Their Health, and examines the many ways in which women manage and sometimes mismanage their healthcare. Researcher and Author, Susan Salenger, describes how women, the medical gatekeepers for their families, are extremely conscientious about taking care of themselves. They choose their doctors carefully, visit them more frequently than men, and stay on top of all health information. Yet, women tend to inadvertently undermine their own health. They’re so focused on taking care of their families that they sometimes fail to stop and ask doctors the necessary questions when it comes to their own healthcare. As a result, they may end up with inaccurate treatments and unnecessary procedures.

Did you know that you can be diagnosed without a scan or other tests revealing anything to be wrong?

Did you know that there's science available to determine the diagnosis without symptoms that can be tested?

I know that's a huge statement, but there are times where doctors diagnose patients with "diagnosis of exclusion." Take IBS, or Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Symptoms may present as one diagnosis, but after rigorous testing, the only diagnosis left would be IBS. Happens all the time. Did you know there are diagnosis that one of 10,000 or 50,000 people would have?

Melissa Farmer joins the show to talk about this and other chronic illnesses and how they present themselves in different patients. She is the Co-Founder of Aivo Health where their mission is to eradicate chronic pain by empowering people with science. In this episode, you will hear valuable information and insight into the science behind the diagnosis and what people can do to still live very productive lives while living with chronic pain or illness, not suffering from it.

It is ok to not be ok.

Those who suffer from chronic pain or chronic illness may think they are a burden, or that the pain is so unimaginable that they would rather crawl into the fetal position and just fade away.  Some women have said that they're embarrassed to talk about what they suffer through and how their illness affects their day to day lives.  You are not alone!

In this episode, Nancy and Dr. Vanda Corbett discuss their battle of not feeling well, excruciating pain and how they push past the struggle using "power poses" or focusing on their posture for a few minutes a day.

“A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles.” –Christopher Reeve

We all have something that challenges us and can hold us back. These are visible challenges for some; others may not realize they have anything holding them back. When looking at business ownership, according to the U.S. Census Bureau there is a trend of people with disabilities being nearly twice as likely to be self-employed as the general population, 14.7 percent compared to 8 percent. But that doesn’t mean that if we have something some call a disability, we will be unable to be successful in business. In fact, for many we have not only learned to live with our differences but have learned to be more able to think outside the box and be better at business ownership because we have learned to deal with things differently than our counterparts.

Today, we talk with Teresa Blaes. She shares some great tools and strategies that can be used by anyone but are especially beneficial to those who have some form of disability.

I’ve incorporated some of her tools, and have learned about leaning in on my faith, to be successful. It’s an incredible journey. Take a listen and see if these make sense for you to use too!

Strategies and processes -- something we need to grow our businesses but something we don’t understand, fear and want to stay as far away from as possible.

Whether you’re a business just starting out or you’ve been around for a while, you need to have a roadmap – something that is going to direct you from where you are to where you want to go. Don’t know where that is? That’s a problem. My favorite quote is "if you don’t know where you’re going, anywhere will take you there." But let’s look at that. Say you live in Michigan and want to get to Florida. Do you just jump into your car, head it south and go? Probably not. You are probably going to want to have directions, a sense of how many miles, how many days, how much money. All those kinds of things. Right?

Tom Sylvester is our guest today on the talk show Don’t Wait Til Pigs Fly. And he is going to chat with us about creating that roadmap, and all the things that we need to know about running a business, including creating that oh so important roadmap.

Once I started putting these tools and programs together in my own business, it not only made it easier for me, but it helped for those times when I don’t feel good, when I have to be away from the office, and helps me to build more quickly and easily because the back office is running more efficiently.

“Visualize your success then take action.” Anonymous

Showing up authentically is the best way to grow your business. When you create a relationship rather than just out there trying to sell yourself and your business. Do you attract the right people into your circle? The way to do it is how Juliette teaches us.

There are many meanings behind visualization – one being getting to understand the true you and what that means to others. A different definition is to be out there in the public eye letting others know who you are and what you stand for.

Today’s chat with Juliette Stapleton is all about the latter (although she touches on being your authentic self as well). We touch on topics such as how to get new connections on Facebook by sharing your thoughts, feelings, the things that make you tick. Think about it like you’re at a party and talking with others about various topics of interest – not only business but what you’re munching on, the weather, etc. Something that is important to you just might be important to them as well and they will connect!

When I started to create the strategies that Juliette talks about, I began to get my ideal client. Those that I want to work with and who want to work with me. Implement the tools, and you’ll get the end result you want.

As a business owner we have certain beliefs and theories about what that means. We started our businesses generally with some of those thoughts and truths. But are they all real? Are they the only goals that one should have? Our guest today, Alison Donaghey and I talk about looking at things from a different perspective. There is not just one way to look at things, but any number of other choices out there that we can make. And guess what? If you make one decision, and find it’s not the right one, you can generally start again with a different choice. Listen in and learn about the end game and how to get there successfully.

Nancy's takeaway: I learned that when I went from being the “boss of my job” to the business owner, things started to change. Being able to do what you want because you work hard gives you an understanding of what it means to be in business.

“Start by doing what’s necessary; then do what’s possible; and suddenly you are doing the impossible.” -Francis of Assisi

According to Business.com, self-employment is a very popular choice among people with disabilities. The Small Business Administration reported that 12.2 percent of the general population chose self-employment, and 14.3 percent of people with disabilities started businesses recently. Most of them have not lived their entire lives with their illness, but somewhere along the line they have been injured or received a diagnosis for something that has made their life different. More difficult. Something extra that they have had to learn to deal with along the way. And when you add owning and running a business life can become much more than just challenging.

Just like not being a successful business owner out of the gate, managing a disability or chronic illness takes time to figure out and to get a grip on. And for some, that never happens. But for those who have the determination and the will power to accomplish what they truly want, these women business owners not only survive but thrive!

Today’s guest, Jessie Ace, is one of those that has it figured out. Listen in as she talks about the challenges and the accomplishments she has had throughout her years with multiple sclerosis.

Okay, um, so, okay, so I've kind of mastered this this thing because sometimes so having multiple sclerosis is really unpredictable. Sometimes you can wake up and feel like you’ve run three marathons in your sleep, and sometimes you can feel kind of okay, but it's never like, Oh, I feel amazing today. - Jessie Ace

"Decision is the spark that ignites action. Until a decision is made, nothing happens.... Decision is the courageous facing of issues, knowing that if they are not faced, problems will remain forever unanswered." Wilfred A. Peterson

Our lives are filled with decision making. I can picture myself sitting at the table and a boatload of decisions falling out of the air on top of my head. Talk about overwhelm. What am I going to do? There are personal decisions, business decisions, health and wellness. With almost every breath I take I must make some sort of decision.

Today’s guest Ella Glasgow is an overwhelm expert. Listen in on our conversation while we talk about what is involved in all this:

No good decision can be made from fear. It is very hard for anyone to make conscious, non regrettable decisions while they are working from fear. There's nothing wrong with being afraid. Acknowledge it, we are all afraid of some things. But that being said,  you cannot operate from that place. I have to allow myself to go back to peace. Get myself into a calm state of mind, so that I can remove myself from the situation and look at it from above and see where the solutions are for myself and for my family.

“You must make a decision that you are going to move on. It won’t happen automatically. You will have to rise up and say, ‘I don’t care how hard this is, I don’t care how disappointed I am, I’m not going to let this get the best of me. I’m moving on with my life.” ― Joel Osteen

This is a great time of year to talk about failures and success. At the beginning of a new and shiny year, we are all excited to jump in and make magical things happen, and then somewhere down the road when everything slows down and the shiny has worn off we have a tendency to hit the brakes, put a stop to things and say “We’ve failed”. SIGH. I’m quitting. It just wasn’t worth it. The big BLACK looming sign of failure hangs over our heads and we slink away into the corners to hide in shame.

Yet, it is only by trying something, having it not work out the way we want it, and then trying again, do we ever truly succeed. Without these side steps and circles around we would never step out of our comfort zone. And that is truly where growth and forward momentum actually happen. According to today’s guest, Miha Mitlievski.

I don't necessarily consider them failures, as as much as I think of them as baby steps towards success. Because you know, when a baby starts to walk, they walk a couple of steps and they fall down. And then they pick themselves back up, and they walk another couple of steps and they fall down again.

Miha went from owning and running a multi-million dollar business to being just as much in debt. But that didn’t stop him. He got back up and started all over again. Now, he is well known in his new field, and is here with us to tell us how to fail to success. Grab a paper and pen, sit back with a good cup of something to drink, get ready for some dynamic notes, and enjoy the next hour!

“Without continual growth and progress, such words as improvement, achievement, and success have no meaning. “ – Benjamin Franklin

According to Kissflow.com, “A business process is a series of steps performed by a group of stakeholders to achieve a concrete goal. Each step in a business process denotes a task that is assigned to a participant. It is the fundamental building block for several related ideas such as Business Process Management, Process Automation, etc.”

What does that mean in English, the English that most of us speak and not “bizlish”? Every company has something they do to make money. For myself, and this podcast it goes like this: I have to find someone to interview. I have to set up the interview, I have to do the interview. Then, we have to turn it into a format that the platforms will accept, we have to add the intro and outro, we have to share it with the platform, add text, and let people know when it’s live. Now that is a loosely defined process. We can just do it – but knowing me, I’ll forget half of it unless I have a standardized procedure that helps me make sure it is done the same each time, it is done right each time, and I don’t have to worry about whether I goofed up or not. That means then that time is saved and thus money is saved and everyone is happy. Doesn’t that sound like a good deal?

In today’s chat with Donnie Boivin, he and I talk about processes, strategies and challenges that come up both when we don’t have and sometimes when something we do have isn’t working right. Get out your pens and paper, take notes and implement these words of wisdom. You won’t regret it.

You shouldn’t have to do everything and now you don’t. Running a business is an exhausting task. There is so much you have to do when you’re the Chief Cook and Bottle Washer. There are bound to be things that fall through the cracks. When you’ve got a chronic challenge, it makes it all that much more difficult. So what do you do?

First, you need to understand that you don’t always have the same levels of energy and making sure your body is at it’s best is important. How do you do that? A tip for starting on this journey is to actually see what you do with your energy and see how you feel doing it. Then you can sort of match what takes the most energy. For me, I know I'm, I could get up and go from five o'clock in the morning, until about one o'clock in the afternoon. And then I'm toast, and there's nothing I can do that's gonna be worthy of letting anybody else see, you know, from like, one to four, and I'll take a nap or I'll sit back and watch some television and I'll do some, then about four o'clock, I've got some more energy and I can work again for another couple of hours. But if I try to push through from that one to four, and there are times like today I have to do that. My brain gets foggy. I go, I'm not remembering this. I'm not using the right words. And so I've learned to try if there's something that's very important to do it early in the morning.

We will spend the next half hour or so talking with Keziah Robinson about all things energy and how to maintain ours while keeping up with our business success. Take a listen!

Three things in life – your health, your mission, and the people you love. That’s it. Naval Ravikant

If you’re like me (even though my health is not very good), you become resistant at the mention of healthy eating. Bean sprouts and radishes – yuck. Give me a good ole hamburger any day. Right? Yet, the more I learn about healthy lifestyles and chronic illness, the more I hear about eating the right way. Like a carrot dangling in front of the horse to get him to move, health and feeling good is my carrot.

Of course, when we don’t feel good, our business suffers as well. That’s #2 of the quote above. Our mission is wanting to have the best business and doing the most to help others that we can. Without being healthy ourselves, that makes it harder to complete #2.

Finally, I want to be around for the people I love. I want to be able to do things with and for them – not just having them wait on me endlessly because I can’t do anything for myself. That’s #3.

In today’s conversation with Suz Carpenter, I had (and hope you will too) an AHA moment. You don’t have to stop eating everything you love, just start one step at a time by adding in one good thing and maybe not eating as much of one bad thing. She was a down-to-earth proponent of living a healthy lifestyle and also shared with us how these changes can help our business. As well, we talked about some of the things she herself (also a chronic illness warrior) has done to help her business, when perhaps all she really wanted to do was Take.A.Nap. This is a great show today.

Sometimes monsters are invisible, and sometimes demons attack you from the inside. Just because you cannot see the claws and the teeth does not mean they aren’t ripping through me. Pain does not need to be seen to be felt.

For someone with one of the “hidden” chronic illnesses, you certainly have heard at least a few times in your life “You don’t look like there’s anything wrong with you.” Or, “All you have to do is take this magic elixir and you be 100% well and feel like you did when you were in your 20s.” Am I right? So often those of us who have some sort of medical challenge run into people in the health and wellness field that sell programs, powders, solutions that are “guaranteed” to make you well again. They quote statistics and recommendations by well known sports stars or doctors in a field (usually ones that have some vested interest in what is being sold). They very well may believe totally in what they are selling, but when dealing with people who have medical issues, those tools and strategies may not work in the way they are supposed to.

According to today’s guest, Lyn Lindbergh, the owner of the health organization and book from Couch to Active, there is still hope for those who have the daily battle of pain.

You're not alone but it feels alone and how do you do all that? And really, we could only do what we can do today, right? We really only have each moment of each day. Your biggest work is kind of figuring out like, what kind of mental and emotional energy do you have in this moment to do what you can with the resources you have today? And then leaving the rest of that mental emotional energy if there's any left to what can I do to show compassion to myself? To not fight against my reality, not think of myself as a mistake or think of myself as a failure or think of myself as less than.

Listen in to this fascinating chat on health, wellness, personal and business. Then see if there might be, just might be a light at the end of the tunnel.

According to the Cleveland Clinic “Environmental toxins are all around us. From the food we eat and water we drink to the products and energy we consume. Toxins have been found in beauty products, household cleaners, carpets, furniture, mattresses, house dust―and even in foods and products from natural sources.  Being surrounded by chemicals on a daily basis can have some harmful effects on your health. However, there are steps you can take to avoid undue toxins as well as make proper choices that can minimize your exposure to these toxins.”

They aren’t the only ones saying this. Our guest today, Cheryl Meyer is an award winning author, international best seller, health coach, speaker, local TV host and guest podcaster. She has spent many years of her life figuring out what toxins are bad, which ones are worse and how to deal with them in our everyday life. From someone who started out being sick with many different issues, to now, knowing how to deal with things so that she rarely finds herself feeling down, Cheryl knows the ins and outs of living a clean life and how to eliminate the bad. "There is a powerful driving force inside every human being that, once unleashed, can make any vision, dream, or desire a reality."

-- Anthony Robbins

Failure, persistence and success. At least one of those three words we like to hear, right? No one wants to have failure in their lives, and persistence denotes hard work. But success – everyone wants to have success in their lives. What we don’t realize though is that without the first two you are very unlikely to truly get to that third on the list. It takes time, it takes little successes, little failures, more successes (in other words, persistence) and eventually you will get to that big SUCCESS.

If you think that with anything you're doing, you're gonna be good enough the first time, whether it's writing books, playing basketball, speaking, podcasting, if you think you're going to be good enough the first time, you should quit that and go try something else. The reality is, you're gonna stink, you're going to get knocked down and because of that, you're going to be so much better and stronger.

Inspiration, motivation, and the knowledge that (according to Ringo Starr)

“Got to pay your dues if you wanna sing the blues And you know it don't come easy”

This is information that we all need to consider, think about and implement. Whether it’s in our personal or our business lives, we need to be able to take our time, pay our dues and eventually our worlds will get easier. "You are the reason of your own good-luck and bad-luck; success and failure; happiness and pain. Your choices are responsible for your present. Don't blame someone else for your sufferings or failures." ― Sanjeev Himachali

According to today’s guest, Adam Mutschler, it is really important to have leadership and accountability – both of which lead to resilience; something that people with disabilities and chronic illness have in abundance. That’s number one thing that you need to have both as someone in the business world and someone with health issues.

However, it is also important that you take responsibility for your own decisions. Not only do you need to be accountable but in order to be a good leader, you need to take responsibility for what you do, but to show that others have to be responsible and accountable for their own actions as well.

Did you know that as someone with pre-existing conditions, you can get health insurance at a reasonable rate? You just have to do a bit of research and question insurance brokers to find the right one. This is a very interesting discussion because I know that many people with chronic illness don’t have, and don’t think they can get, either health insurance or life insurance. That can be a big drain on our emotions and our health when it costs thousands of dollars for our medications, hospitals are out of the question and on and on. But wouldn’t it be nice to know that there’s something that can be done to alleviate those worries?

Our chat today is with Lorena Tomasini, a licensed insurance broker who has great information for us on what to do and how to take at least these strains off our concern lists!!!! Listen in as we settle down to learn about the reasons for insurance.

“To keep the body in good health is a duty… Otherwise we shall not be able to keep our mind strong and clear.” ~ Buddha

In today’s episode, Dane Dormio of MindBody Mastery, talks with us about why we need to keep our minds and bodies healthy in order to have successful lives and businesses.

Why is this important? 1. When we allow ourselves to get out of step with our bodies needs, we find ourselves dragging, no energy, our brains become sluggish and it’s a chore to even move one foot in front of the other. 2. As business owners and entrepreneurs, we need to be on our toes. We are always battling unforeseen obstacles, the ever changing processes and strategies that make our companies move ahead – without our health that becomes very difficult. 3. Life is full of ups and downs. When we do simple things like meditate for 5 minutes a day we can start out calmer, more in control and less stressed out.

If you have questions or would like to take a free health assessment, you can reach Dane by connecting with him on Facebook.

“Without continual growth and progress, such words as improvement, achievement, and success have no meaning. “ – Benjamin Franklin

When we start our own businesses, it is usually just us. We are a one-person, “get R done”, continual motion creation that works non-stop to do everything required to make the business successful. But then, as we start to grow, it becomes harder and harder.

For our guest Paul Maskill, it was like “Yeah, it is so important to build a business that can thrive without you because you never know what's going to happen. For me, it was asking myself the question, what happens if I got hit by a bus? And the answer was not good because I was the sole responsible person for the success of the business.” He realized that if he was going to make his business sustainable, he was going to have to make some changes – things that would allow him to keep the doors open, the money coming in – even if he weren’t there.

Today’s conversation is all about the different ways to automate processes, what that means and how to best figure out what is right for you. Listen in as we chat with Paul Maskill.

“When you look for the good in someone; you’ll find it.”

Consistently high-performing teams achieve significantly more than what is imaginably possible.

As a leader, you may experience phases when your team is highly performing, firing on all cylinders, and at their best. During those time periods, you want to capitalize on that momentum and elevate your team to new levels of success. While leading teams, you may also find yourself in phases when your team is underperforming and needs a turn-around because there are significant milestones your organization is striving for.. This is how JW Rayhons, our guest today, starts out our conversation. He makes it clear that while he mostly works with teams, even a one-person team can fall into these two categories. It’s all in how you deal with the current situation that gets you to the next step on the journey.

There's going to be some unexpected things that are going to come up throughout the year on any given day. And so it really is how do I and anyone else go about staying focused on the things that they really want to accomplish? Really stay focused on the things that mean the most to them that are most important to them?

How should we focus our time and energy? First, we need to get very clear on what it is we want to accomplish and how we are going to accomplish that. Listen in as we talk more about the steps to happiness and success in your business.

Getting an audience is hard. Sustaining an audience is hard. It demands a consistency of thought, of purpose, and of action over a long period of time. - Bruce Springsteen

Consistency in the workplace creates accountability, enhances your reputation, and gives you an opportunity to measure results and make sure things are moving in a positive direction. But according to Bernadette Geyer, today’s guest, consistency comes down to things like your brand, the words you use in your marketing and even your actions where your customers see you acting and “being”. In other words, being consistent allows you to measure your results and your ROI. It gives you a form of accountability. Didn’t do something today that you were expected to do? Customers not happy? You weren’t consistent in your actions. And then, of course that helps in the creation of a business’ reputation, and on and on. Without consistent action and consistent structure within the very core of your company, you cannot be truly successful.

When it comes to hiring someone to take on the responsibilities of your written documentation such as a copywriter like Bernadette, it is even more important to have a form of consistency. The person you hire must understand and be able to sound like, and create wording that comes across in the voice of the person who they are working for. To make this clearer, let’s sit down, bring along a beverage of choice, and listen in as Bernadette and Nancy talk about being able to be consistent.

“If you can’t fly then run, if you can’t run then walk, if you can’t walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward.” —Martin Luther King Jr.

Living life with depression and anxiety can be a horrible nightmare. There are many different levels of both. Some are easily pushed aside while others are totally debilitating. Added to that if you’re trying to run a successful business, it can feel like you are caught in a huge mud bog and you just can’t get your feet free. The harder you try, the more tired you get. You lose your energy, your joy, and you just want to give up and sink down into the pit. Today’s guest, Miro Wcislo tells us how he feels when he says “every single day is a battle every second is a battle.”

Throughout this talk, he tells us about his supportive parents, his days before the disability started, and how he has struggled and succeeded in creating a very successful business even though he has had to deal with a continuing situation.

Sit back, grab a cup of your favorite beverage, and listen in (btw – you’ll want to take notes today), while we chat with Miro.

There are many reasons to write a book but, according to Brian Tracy, “the biggest reason was to spread my message about subjects that I felt very passionate about.”

Most people start out to write the American novel, but it’s not all that easy. Thousands of books are submitted for publication each year, and only a few are chosen. You can find a publisher, you can self-publish, or you can find someone that leads you through the process and gets your book out there for others to read.

However, as the quote above states, the best reason to publish a book is to let people know your message and what your knowledge and experience are all about. And, believe it or not, you will probably NOT make a lot of money from this endeavor. Even if you get it on the shelves of Barnes and Noble or Amazon, very little in royalties will come to you. Where you do make the money is through showing people what your business is, what you teach, how you make a living, etc. Listen in as today’s guest Suzanne Doyle-Ingram shares with us her years of experience in helping others to do their best and to get those books hiding inside us out into the public.

"Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much." --Helen Keller

No matter what industry you are in, there comes a time when a solopreneur needs to have some help. There are things they can’t do, don’t know how to do, or just don’t want to do. Business is growing and it is too much for one person to handle. This may be the beginning of a growth in the company, or a one-time thing where the owner needs just a bit of help. Regardless of which, it is always nice to have the ability to reach out and find someone to build your team around.

Deidre Kindred has been involved in the medical profession for many years, and she believes wholeheartedly in the statement above. Whether that is help for someone with health issues and can’t leave the house by themselves, or whether it’s the running of the back end of the business, Deidre shares with us experiences she has had with both her own business and working as an employee.

Communication, goals and organization are all very important aspects of finding the right members for the “Team” and you can find out more by listening in as Nancy chats with Deidre here.

"Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time." – Thomas Edison

You need to be able to easily find more of your ideal clients, and make it easy for your ideal clients to find you. That’s the idea behind the Jonny Hates Marketing business, led by Jonny Cooper. Sounds wonderful doesn’t it? But is it really that easy? I know that I, for one, am not a fan of getting out there and “selling” my business which we all know is a part of marketing – it’s the end result that we want when we share our marketing efforts with our potential clients.

In today’s show, Jonny shares with us his 3 simple principles to effortless marketing, keeping us out of overwhelm which can so easily happen. So –

Sit back, get out pen and paper to take some notes and let’s dive into Jonny Hates Marketing.

If you don't find a way to make money while you sleep, you will work until you die.- Warren Buffett

Lisa Johnson, today’s guest, starts our conversation by saying “I WANTED TO BE MORE, EXPERIENCE MORE, EARN MORE.” But she didn’t know how to do it. And that’s when her business was born. Her first company, a wedding planning business, led her to talk with others, find mentors, help to analyze what was going right and not so right in both her own and in colleagues’ businesses. That led to a pivot into coaching and before long she was making 6 figures regularly and her courses were selling out so quickly she couldn’t keep up.

In order for her to continue to grow she either had to clone herself or figure out ways to continue to earn money without more time or energy. And that’s when it hit her. I need to make passive income. Not an investment program with some financial institution, but by creating programs that allowed her to do the work once, and sell it repeatedly and automatically. Things like evergreen courses (you create the course, you put it into a program such as Teachable or Kajabi, and then sit back and watch the money roll in “in your sleep”. Periodically, you should upgrade it, change it up a bit and add more to it, but it’s really very simple.

Our conversation today has Lisa sharing her thoughts and ideas on what she has done and how she has made her business and her life so successful while finding the time to spend traveling the world with her children and family. Take a listen in and learn how to do this for yourself.

Take 30 minutes and focus on one thing – something that is going to move your business forward. Don’t pay attention to email, to other things that are distractions. 15-15-15 model is a great plan. What is going to help you get more money, more clients, more success. That model means take 15 minutes to talk with clients, take 15 to create a client funnel, and take 15 minutes to set up your facebook posts, your marketing. When you spend time on busy work and not on the forward momentum of CLIENTS, then you are wasting time.

Today’s guest, Kat McLead, is an expert on hyperfocus. When listening to her you will learn how you too can create a stronger, more successful business by creating times during the day when you focus on one or two different things and don’t allow distractions. Take a listen here!

“Introverts live in two worlds: We visit the world of people, but solitude and the inner world will always be our home.” ― Jenn Granneman, The Secret Lives of Introverts: Inside Our Hidden World

What is an introvert and how do they handle being in business? According to the American Management Association

Extroverts: Talk first; think later Introverts: Think first; talk later

Extroverts: Seek out other people Introverts: Prefer going solo

Extroverts: Tend to be “babbling brooks;” people often tune them out Introverts: Don’t speak up too often; people tend to tune in when they do

Extroverts: Draw energy from other people Introverts: Are energized by time spent alone

How does that figure in business? As a business owner, you need to be out there, telling your story, letting people know about what you do and why they need it. So, what does an introvert do? You can pick the parts of your story that you want the world to know. Find a persona that can become YOU when you are out and about. Let people see what you want them to see. This isn’t a lie, it’s only a chosen part of the whole.

Do you think you’re an introvert? Is this personality type of interest to you? Janice Chaka, today’s guest considers herself an introvert, AND a successful business owner. Want to know more? Listen here!

Keep it simple and focus on what matters. Don't let yourself be overwhelmed.

  • Confucius

When we start a business we want to tell everyone what we do and let them know that they need to buy our product or service. It is exciting and we bounce around shouting it from the rooftop. I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve been hit up from someone I’ve never heard of telling me that I REALLY need to buy what they are selling. They don’t know me, they don’t know what I buy or if anything they are saying will be of interest to me.

You need to make sure that what you are doing in your marketing, is converting to sales, according to today’s guest, Craig Severinsen. He tells us that by being authentic, by sharing with people who you are, what you care about and building relationships, that’s what’s going to grow your business.

It is more important to be true and find clients through authenticity rather than letting the world know you exist. Find the offer that makes sense to a few people and you’ll sell your product/service to more and that saves time, money and effort. Listen in and learn how keeping it simple builds a bigger return.

“The only strategy that is guaranteed to fail is not taking risks.”

— Mark Zuckerberg, founder, Facebook

People are flocking to business ownership these days. It is THE thing to do when someone is dissatisfied, disgruntled and just wanting something to call their own. They may have done their homework, started off with a bang and then – nothing. The phone doesn’t ring, the website has no hits, there is silence. What do they do then? Give up? What was the true meaning of starting their business in the first place? Did it have meaning to those they wanted to sell to or was it something just for themselves. Something THEY wanted to do?

Mindset is one of several issues that is top of the list for people who are starting (and running) small businesses. If the mindset isn’t right, then the business won’t be either. In today’s conversation with Dr. Barbra Portzline, we talk about mindset and other pitfalls and challenges (as well as success and growth) in the business world. So, sit back, get out your pen and paper (or tablet), take notes and increase your opportunity for business success for yourself!

"The successful networkers I know, the ones receiving tons of referrals and feeling truly happy about themselves, continually put the other person's needs ahead of their own." -- Bob Burg

Networking is an important part of running a business, but it is not a well understood method of growing relationships. It’s not just about getting coffee and having chats. It’s about bringing in money and building long-term connections between people.

Often, people go to networking events to hang out with friends, eat free food (and drinks) and get out of work early or just needing a break. Those are not really great reasons to get out there. But when you put a system in place like Jason Rosado and I talk about in this week’s show, then you can know full well that you will walk away with the knowledge that you have made someone else’s day valuable and that in the long run it will come back to you.

"All the money in the world can't buy you back good health." Reba McEntire

We all know that it’s important to be healthy in our lives and in our businesses. As Reba says above, we can have all the money we could ever wish for, our business can be a huge success, but if we are not healthy we can’t enjoy it or anything about our lives. Take if from me, I know. For quite a while I ignored what was going on with my body and now I have to push myself to get out of bed in the morning, let alone get out there and do the work of running my business. It is hard and I think about how much time I’ve wasted over the years.

Like we talk about often, it doesn’t take a whole new regimen to get started. One small step in the right direction can get us on our way. Here today, is Dr. Robyn to share with us some of those small steps that will lead to BIG results both physically, mentally and help keep us on the right track with our business as well. “Before you are a leader, success is all about growing yourself. When you become a leader, success is all about growing others.” – Jack Welch

A title that we often aim to achieve is that of boss. We want that corner office and we want to control things around us. But, unfortunately, that does not make us a leader. A leader being that which helps those that we work with, the best that they can be. A quote that most people have heard (I’m guessing here) is that Leaders lead, bosses push.

We hear about business and brands all the time but do we really understand what that means? Is it our logo, our website, our Facebook page? Yes, in brief terms. But it is so much more than that. We are also starting to hear about authentic brands and how people are resonating with those companies that are true to their brands.

In today’s “Don’t Wait Til Pigs Fly”, Nela Dunato gives us a great discussion on being in business and showing our authentic brand to our customers and potential customers. We talk about her book “The Human Centered Brand”, a practical guide that teaches service based business owners and creatives how to create an authentic brand and grow meaningful relationships with their clients. “Whatever you are trying to sell, storytelling is the most powerful thing you can do. Most of the best business ideas come from personal experiences.” (from Jack Preston’s blog post about Virgin Media Pioneers’ Pitch to Rich competition)

In today’s episode, Tom Jackobs, of Impact Pilot, tells us a story about how he became a better business person and in the process learned what he calls the secret to great sales: storytelling. When you tell a story you are able to put your listeners in your shoes (and you theirs) so that a picture can be drawn and the potential buyer can actually see why he or she needs what you have to offer.

"Your attitude, not your aptitude, will determine your altitude." -Zig Ziglar

You can’t be in business without being in sales. But that dreaded (for most of us) word doesn’t have to mean the old fashioned, push your program into someone’s hands whether they want it or not. Today, its more about creating relationships that focus on helping others. No longer does a person line up to find the perfect salesman; instead thanks to the Internet, the buyer is large and in charge. They know everything before they even start to look for the right item to buy. So, that makes the sale become an entirely different scenario.

According to Michael Furey, Founder of 24 Hour Sales Coach, “you don’t need to know sales, you just need to know people.” And that seems to be his philosophy overall. By understanding people, what they want, and how you can help them, with care, consideration and confidence, you will move ahead.

Listen in as he shares his thoughts.

“There is no greater gift you can give or receive than to honor your calling. It’s why you were born. And how you become most truly alive.” ―Oprah Winfrey If we’re in business we have a purpose, a goal, a meaning to our lives and our work. But there are times when we push those feelings aside for money, or to make ourselves feel important -- something other than what we created our business for in the first place.

It is when we stick with our intentions and follow our purpose that we have the best lives and the best business we can have.

“Throw out the words, if I can, I hope, and maybe, and replace them with I can, I will, I must.” Mary Kay Ash

We don’t always start out with a plan, but without a plan we never get anywhere. It takes hard (emotional and mental) work to get to a successful place with your business, whatever type of business that may be. And when you look at it as a gift and calling from God, then watch yourself soar.

These are words paraphrased from my conversation with Randi Lincoln, a Senior Sales Director with Mary Kay. And she knows what she’s talking about. You can see her driving around in one of the 23 cars she has earned, and going to the bank to deposit her checks (she has earned between 85,000 and 190,000 in commissions in one year’s time. “Safety doesn’t happen by accident” – author unknown

We live in an unsafe world these days and unfortunately all too often we are not aware (or don’t take the time to be aware) of the potential dangers out there. Whether it is to our own personal safety or to the safety of our businesses and our business information, it is important for us to take the time to do what is necessary to keep ourselves and our property out of harm’s way.

In this episode we talk about password security, social media and other areas that should be addressed when considering everything pertaining to our security. The conversation is led by Ed Becher a security professional and retired US Marine Corps Master Sargent.

Strength and growth come only through continuous effort and struggle. Napoleon Hill

Today’s podcast is a bit off the beaten track – I’m away for a couple of weeks thanks to the skills of my foot surgeon who has chained me to my bed with no walking for a couple of weeks. Therefore, I reached out to a great friend of mine, Andy Medlam, who is a brilliant business coach and advisor to step in and share his thoughts on business growth.

I love his description of himself – he is very down to earth and kind. Here is what his website says about himself: I’m just a regular a guy as you would ever meet, just with a huge passion to make the best possible life for me and those around me. I have a beautiful partner, Michelle, and we live together in Doncaster. We are fortunate enough to have discovered this opportunity and I can honestly say that it’s the best decision I’ve ever made! To be honest one of the best things about this business is I have made some amazing friends and really enjoy working with people of all walks of life.

No ego there but I can testify that he has a heart of gold and the knowledge to go along with it. Words of wisdom are part and parcel of what he has to say. So, thank you Andy for stepping in while I’m out. I truly appreciate it. Everyone take a listen!!!!!

And if you’d like to work with Andy, here’s his facebook link: https://www.facebook.com/andymedlam
