Hello folks, welcome back to Confessions Of A CerealKyler, my blog. I've decided to host it here on my website rather than on tumblr to keep things simple. I'm hoping to update this a lot more than I did last year and get a little more personal and really use it as a diary. This will be my 10th year touring with Alice Cooper, and I'm thankful and blessed to have such stability in this volatile industry. It's afforded me amazing opportunities to see the world and photograph amazing things and meet some great people. That being said, last year was the hardest touring year for me ever on a personal level. Last year was BRUTAL. I was beginning to lose my mind in the end. I needed a break, and I got just that in November.
Since then I've enjoyed relative quiet at home with my kids in my house and with my dog. I've been tinkering with guitars and my house and taking pictures and writing some songs and being a dad. It's been casual and relaxing and fantastic. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't dreading the end of this calm. That's not to say that I'm not excited about going on the road this year; touring life is always exciting and I live for the road. It can just be very exhausting if you don't pace yourself, and last year I did a poor job of pacing myself. I didn't get enough sleep and was trying to do too much and I spent untold hours worrying about not leaving enough time to nurture my own life.But that's the struggle. For me touring life has always been very much a double edged sword. On the one hand, I get to travel the world, make a comfortable living and work with the nicest guy in rock n roll. On the other, I have to be away from my kids, and put my actual life on hold.So that's where my head is at. I've gotta get the gears rolling and blow off the dust. It's now time to start talking to the press about the upcoming shows, time to plan out costumes and order new supplies. Time to service my camera gear. It's time to buy underwear. It's time to research the latest DIY fake blood recipes. Being an assistant to a rock star is a fun way to make a living that's for sure.Speaking of rock stars, I'm sitting here in my kitchen on a three way call between Coop and a rock radio station in Augusta, GA. He's talking rock n roll, and being that he's on the phone with Augusta he is of course talking golf. As the weeks have been passing recently, it's becoming increasingly difficult to ignore the fact that we're heading on the road in less than a month. The relaxing pace of life at home is quickening, and my anxiety about our inevitable departure is ever rising. It's no short tour either... I did a rough count of shows coming up in 2017 that were either announced, confirmed but unannounced or likely to be announced soon. I counted 113 shows in countries all around the world. But, in all that travel it appears that I'll be able to be home for the 4th of July AND on Halloween, if I'm lucky. To be home for either would be exceedingly rare. I'm not sure I've ever been home for the 4th since becoming a parent. Which is nuts.
Anyway I AM looking forward to seeing familiar faces out there again this year! If you see me on the road, say hi. I may be in a hurry but I do love a good chat. I'm also excited to keep taking pictures of fans for my Pick Me CerealKyler series!
