Join us as we take a step back from our current sermon series ("The Dearest Place on Earth") during this unprecedented Coronavirus season and encourage one another through the Psalms. Specifically, Pastor Brad Lynch walks us through Psalm 23 as we encourage one another to keep our eyes on the Good Shepherd Jesus Christ.
God's desire for the church is to proclaim His word, minister to His people and advance His kingdom.
A pastor is a man called by God to lead, teach, shepherd, pray for and disciple a congregation. He should be above reproach, sober-minded, respectable, hospitable, gentle and of good reputation.
In chapter 2:8-15 the apostle Paul gives the church some very important guidelines on how Christian men and women are to conduct themselves. Believers are called to live Counter-Culture to the way the world lives. Paul encourages men to stop arguing and start praying; he encourages women to pursue modesty and the apostle commands both men and women to live out their God-given roles. In this way, the gospel of Christ is proclaimed and lives are changed from darkness to light.
In chapter 2 of 1 Timothy, the apostle Paul highlights to Timothy the importance of evangelistic prayer, the reason for evangelistic prayer and the power of evangelistic prayer.
The apostle Paul was a wicked man before salvation. Of that there is no doubt. But God didn't save Paul solely for his benefit. God radically changed Paul's life as an example of what can happen to us when we place our faith in Jesus. And as the gospel message changes us, we get to see the gospel message change others.
As we study through 1 Timothy 1:3-11, we see how important it is to rightly distinguish between false teachers and true teachers. False teachers believe lies that create division, have lost their way and are ignorant of the truth. True teachers are faithful and aim for love.
As we move through the book of 1 Timothy, we jump over to 3:14-16 and discuss why regenerate covenant membership matters in the lives of believers.
Join us as we walk through 1st and 2nd Timothy and we see why the Church (the body of believers) is indeed the dearest place on earth.
For believers, as we learn to walk in God's strength, we will inevitably find that we fail. It isn't a matter of IF we fall, but rather when we will fall... And when we fall, it is important to understand that God doesn't condemn us to Hell or write us off as hopeless. Rather, scripture tells us that when we stumble, we are to repent, ask Jesus for forgiveness and turn from our sins. If we do this, Jesus is faithful to restore us and call us to something bigger than ourselves. Listen in and be encouraged today.
As we read through Isaiah 9:6, we see a wonderful picture of just a few of the things that Christ is to us. Scripture says He is our Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Take time to marvel at the truth that God would send His only Son to die for all who would believe.
In John chapter 20, we read the account of the most amazing miracle in the history of creation~ the resurrection of Jesus. The cornerstone of the Christian faith, Jesus' conquering death, hell and the grave shows us that (1) Jesus' resurrection brings new life and intimacy with God; (2) through the Holy Spirit, Believers are empowered to live out the Christian life; (3) By faith, not by sight, we are saved and put back into a right relationship with God the Father.
In one of the most stunning passages of scripture, the crucifixion of Jesus, we see the world turned upside down. But what first looks to be defeat is actually victory; what looks to be the final blow is actually just a new and glorious beginning; what looks to be the darkness of death actually ushers in the light of salvation for the world. Listen and see how you can have the gift of eternal life in Christ Jesus.
Before Jesus departed, He instructed the disciples and all believers to pray in His name. For when we do this, it shows our trust in Christ, our intimacy with God, fills us with peace and completes our joy. Listen in on how you can have the peace that surpasses all understanding.
Before Jesus departed this earth, He promised to send the Holy Spirit in His place to lead, guide and direct us. Through our discussion of John 16, Pastor Brad pulls out 3 critical points from the passage: (1) We are better off with the Holy Spirit inside us than Jesus beside us; (2) The Holy Spirit is the great Evangelist and (3) The Holy Spirit is the great Discipler.
In John 15, Jesus calls believers His friends and reminds us that we re to love one another as He has loved us. As we abide in God's love, Christ says our joy will be made complete.

As we step into chapter 15 of the gospel of John, Jesus compares Himself to the one true vine and to believers as the branches. The main idea here is that It is God's plan that you will bear fruit. Rejoice in the truth that God chose you and God works to bear fruit in you. Ask God for the faith to believe for the fruit He desires to bear in your life and that He will show you the branches in your life that He desires to prune.
Faith in Jesus doesn't just put you into heaven, but also puts heaven into you. Join us as we study John chapter 14 and we see that Jesus is The Way, The Truth and the Life.
Jesus was a humble, loving servant and as followers of Christ, we too are called to be humble loving servants. Read through John 13:1-38 as Pastor Brad Lynch explains the significance of Jesus washing His disciple's feet and how it impacts our walk with Christ even today.
The gospel reveals to us that true life only comes through death. As we look to Jesus, the Author and Finisher of our faith we see that He has to die to give us life; we have to die to self to experience Christ's life in us; death to self isn't easy but death to self brings fruit.
Christianity is not about you changing your life but Jesus giving you a new life. Therefore, evangelism is based off of who we are, not what we should do. The gospel calls us to be ambassadors for Christ.
In John chapter 11, we see one of the most moving miracles of Jesus's earthly ministry~ the raising of Lazarus from the dead. Through Lazarus resurrection, we see a foreshadowing of Jesus's impending crucifixion and resurrection. The resurrection of Jesus points to His love for His people, His purpose, His compassion and His power.
Who is Jesus? Among many other things, He is the Good Shepherd; Jesus is the life-giving Shepherd; He is the sacrificial Shepherd and He is the protective Shepherd. Jesus is the Good Shepherd because He IS the Son of God.
Because Jesus gives us true sight, believers now see things differently. We see suffering from a Kingdom perspective; we see our lives as an opportunity to work the works of God; we see our flesh as a roadblock to God and we see our lives changed.

In the story of Jesus's encounter with an adulterous woman, we see Christ's grace, mercy and forgiveness on display. Through the scripture, pastor Brad points out 3 critical points to remember: Jesus calls out hypocritical judging; for the truly repentant heart, Jesus forgives sin and removes condemnation and Jesus commands believers to "sin no more".
It is not certainly not a stretch to say the ministry of Jesus Christ was controversial. And through the noise and controversy, Jesus was still able to speak the gospel to a hurting world in a very clear and concise way. A great example is found in John chapter 7.
There is no doubt about it. Sometimes Jesus spoke hard words to his followers and to the people of Israel. Hard to understand, hard to commit to, hard to fathom. But the truth is that true life only comes by the Spirit through the words of Christ. And the true life results in a changed life. Have you been joined to Christ's life through the Spirit?
Jesus is the bread of life. Rebuking surface-level pursuits, He calls His people into a deeper walk with Him, bringing us all to completion.
Through one of the most memorable bible stories, Jesus seeks to stretch our faith. We see through the scripture that Jesus takes little and makes much, always gives and is building HIS kingdom, not ours.

In John 4:43-54, scripture records Jesus' healing of a man's son. As a result of this miracle, the man's entire household came to saving faith in Christ. Yet, scripture tells us that people are not saved because of the miraculous, but God uses the miraculous to point the world to Jesus. What, then, should our responses be to signs, wonders and miracles? What does this mean for our individual walks with Jesus today? And finally, what does this mean for the ministry of our church?
Jesus is passionate about redeeming mankind. He desires for us to have that same passion, and to be a part of His plan of redemption.
God created all of creation and saw that it was good. But when He created man, He saw that it was not good that man was alone. So He created Eve, a helpmate to Adam. As we study through Genesis 2:18-25, we see 4 critical things to remember: (1) women were created as a blessing to others, (2) women were created as a perfect fit with man, (3) women were created as a gift from God and (4) women were created to live free in Christ.
But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship Him. God is spirit and those who worship Him must worship Him in spirit and truth. (John 4:23-24)
Living Water is the powerful life of Jesus Christ, whereby we receive our life, forgiveness, hope, joy, power, peace, significance, identity, fruit, love and literally everything else in the world!
When Jesus had received the sour wine, He said "It is finished," and He bowed His head and gave up His spirit. (John 19:30)
As we pray, we should remember that Jesus prayed for non-believers as well as believers. One of the best ways that Christians show the love of Christ is simply how they live life together. Praise God that the body of Christ is made up of believers from all nations, colors, tongues and cultures. Unity doesn't mean uniformity but rather a oneness between believers that flows from our oneness with God.
It's a remarkable thought that the Creator of the universe would pray for believers. But that's exactly what scripture shows us. As we study the book of John we see a great example of how to pray from Jesus. God's Word tells us that Jesus prays for believers to choose the Word over the world; Jesus prays for believers to have His joy, Jesus prays for believers to grow in sanctification and Jesus prays for believers to see themselves as sacred.

John the Baptist was sent to proclaim the coming of the one true King, the Messiah Jesus Christ. And though his ministry was extremely popular, John had no issues with stepping out of the limelight so that Jesus may take control. He told his followers when they complained that Jesus was growing more popular than John that he must decrease so that Christ might increase. So goes the life of the believer today. We have been made dead to sin and alive to Christ because of His work on the cross. Praise Him for that truth today!
In this message, Pastor Brad Lynch walks us through Nicodemus' divine encounter with Jesus. Nicodemus was a highly educated and respected Pharisee, a ruler of the Jews. Yet, Christ explains salvation to him in a way that he has never heard before. Through the passage, God shows us that being born again happens by placing our faith in Jesus; being born again is not about us coming to God but God coming to us; Being born again is the most important thing that will ever happen to you.
It is something to take note of that as Jesus was beaten, he didn't say a word. When He was abandoned by his friends and followers, He offered grace and mercy. To the sinner on the cross, He offered forgiveness. But when it came to His Father's house, He offered no leniency and expected it to be kept holy and pure. By His sacrifice, our bodies are now the Temple and He expects the same thing from our lives. Whatever we do, do it for the glory and honor of The Lord.
Jesus chose to reveal Himself in a special way at a friend's wedding. As we review chapter 2, verses 1-11, we see that Jesus turning water into wine points to something greater than the actual event. Jesus is our perfect Bridegroom who loves us, purifies us and makes us new!
The Lord's Supper is meant to remember and proclaim the work of Jesus in our lives. In taking away our sin, we see that Jesus laid down His life as the ultimate sacrifice. We can praise Him because the cross absorbed every ounce of God's wrath!
As a disciple, the most important thing about you is not what you do for God but what God has done for you.
You are a witness, a voice crying out. Your purpose, and mine, is to proclaim the good news of Christ to all.
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen His glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
Salvation through Jesus Christ makes you a child of God and as a result, you receive all of the rights, privileges and pleasures that come with being His child.
John 1:1-5 sets the stage for a tremendous testimony by the Apostle John on who exactly Jesus is. He is our Creator, He gives us Life, He destroys the darkness. He truly is God and truly is Man. He is the Messiah!
Christ is calling us into something deeper with him than just merely head knowledge. Christ is calling on us to believe, trust and KNOW that He is God. He calls us to give everything to Him so that the Spirit of God may live through us and His name would be glorified.

What are you waiting for this Christmas? Are like Simeon in the temple who was waiting for comfort? Are you like the prophetess Anna who was waiting for forgiveness? And having received these things, consider these actions to take: Become a marveler of Christ; become a mover for His Kingdom's work and become a messenger of the Gospel.
While some may view "successful" church growth by head count, scripture clearly states that true growth in Christ is measured in terms of spiritual maturity and dependence on the Lord. Likewise, the Church can grow when its members hold to sound doctrine, live the truth and fulfill their respective gifted roles within the Body of Christ.
Christ has gifted each believer for accomplishing the goal of spreading the gospel of Christ to the world. Are you using the gifts Christ has given you for furthering His kingdom?
A church is one body of believers united for one purpose and reaching forward to one vision.

What is the measure of greatness? True greatness is found in following Jesus Christ. Great people serve others willingly. Great people serve together supportively and great people serve Jesus radically.
The Lord's prayer calls us to take our petitions before God, not because He doesn't already know what we need but because through this petitioning, our lives are impacted in four distinct ways: gratitude, generosity, confidence and contentment.
In The Lord's Prayer, we see 3 petitions; a petition for God's name, a petition for His Kingdom and a petition for His will.
In this message, Dr. Kinlaw focuses on The Lord's Prayer (Matthew 9:6-13) and breaks it down into two sections; God's glory and our needs. Jesus laid out for us exactly how we are to approach our Father in heaven through prayer. While it isn't so much about the exact words used, it is important that we understand why Jesus chose the words He chose in his example to all believers.
Many people think that we pray because we need to inform God about what's going on in our lives. We think perhaps we need to influence Him to make the "right" decision or that we need to impress Him with our words of prayer. But the truth is, the purpose of prayer is simply to invite God into our lives, experience intimacy with Him and to grow more dependent on Him day by day.
One of our core values here at Southview Baptist Church is prayer. We value prayer as an amazing privilege of speaking with our Father, the King of the Universe, expressing and enjoying intimacy with Him.
Paul's closing remarks to Timothy are still applicable for believers today. We are instructed to guard the Gospel, for the greatest danger we face is to mishandle the truth of God's Word. We are reminded to avoid the godless chatter of those who claim to preach truth, but in reality they preach falsehoods and lies. Finally, we are told to rely on God's grace as we seek to honor Him with our lives.
Most Americans are in the 1% wealthiest category in the world! Couple that with our consumeristic society and it can become easy to make our wealth our idol. God reminds us, however, that wealth is temporary and uncertain. God is the true giver of all things and He calls us to honor Him by doing what is good, being rich in good works, being generous and being willing to share.
As we consider that God is unapproachable, invisible, incomparable, perfect and holy in all His ways, we should stand in awe that the Creator of the universe loved us enough to come down in earthly form to save us from our sins. What a Mighty and Glorious God we serve!
What comes to mind when you think about God? To be sure, each of us may give slightly different answers if asked this simple yet important question. We must always make sure what we think is true of God lines up with what scripture says is true of God.
God encourages us to flee worldliness, follow Christlikeness, fight for the Faith and firmly grasp onto eternal life.
In every circumstance in life, whether of the greatest joy or the greatest sorrow, we can praise God. We can rest in His grace, rejoice in His provision and rely on His strength to get us through whatever comes our way...for He is able.
Even in the midst of discipline, God offers believers hope. We are reminded through scripture that we are not to put our faith in man-made things, but rather on Jesus Christ alone.

In 1 Timothy 6:1-2, Paul reminds believing slaves in Ephesus that they are to show the glory of Christ in their current situation even though it is deplorable to God. It is never acceptable for one group of people to enslave another. Still, God expects believers to live their lives in ways that point people to Christ and shares the saving Gospel.
In this section of 1 Timothy, Paul lays out four responsibilities of the church related to elders/pastors if the church is to restore and maintain healthy leadership.
In Paul's discussion with Timothy on the church's responsibility to support widows, we see much more than simply guidelines on the topic, but rather a call to personal responsibility in our own lives and how that relates to glorifying and growing in Christ.
In our continued study of 1 Timothy, we see there are four commitments of a life of lasting impact: (1) Fulfill your calling from God; (2) Continue to make progress; (3) Pay attention and (4) Persevere. We must do all we can to ensure our lives are lived with the utmost integrity. The only safe motion for a Christian is forward motion.
As Paul directed Timothy, so the scripture still directs believers today. We are called to be an example in speech, conduct, love, faith and purity of the saving, transforming power of Jesus Christ.
Paul reminds us in 1 Timothy to confront false teachings and false prophets so that heresy and falsehoods would not be present within the body of Christ. We are also encouraged to be disciplined in our study of scripture. For while physical training is good, spiritual training is profitable for the present life as well as for the life to come.
The constant threat of those departing from the faith serves as a reminder that we are living in the last days. As Paul reminded Timothy, we must also know and boldly defend the truth, starting with our own hearts.
In times of suffering, remember that the God of all comforts is there walking with you. In our suffering we should remember what God is to us, what God does for us and what God ultimately does through us.

Deacons, similar to the Overseers, are called to live their lives above reproach. Scripture tells the church to pray and fast over the choosing of our leaders. Why? Because it is critically important that we lead well, that our witness be found not lacking anything so that the unbelieving world may see the grace, mercy and beauty of Christ in us.
In chapter 3 of 1 Timothy, the Apostle Paul lays out the qualifications for leaders in the church. In msg #5 of our Build Strong sermon series, we review 1 Timothy 2:8-15 and begin looking at guidelines for the gathered church. Men are called to resolve all differences before coming together in a corporate worship setting, women are called to present themselves modestly and in all things all believers are called to value Christ above all other things. Only when we put Jesus in His rightful place as the head of our church, our families and our lives will we truly be able to build a strong church.
The Apostle Paul reminds Timothy that he is to stand firm, to call out false prophets and to pray for everyone, not excluding anyone. When we do this, we honor God and those who need Him.
As believers, we need to be in continual fellowship with God and with other believers. We need to invest in each others' lives, discipling one another in order to build a strong foundation for Christ. We need to stay connected to the "army" and stay engaged in the spiritual battle.
You were saved, first and foremost, for the glory of God. The Apostle Paul recognized that the good of his life and ministry were completely the result of God's amazing grace. In Paul's life, we are reminded that no one is too far gone for the mercy and grace of God to transform. And in this truth, we proclaim that the Gospel is to be celebrated and shared.

King David, the author of Psalm 145 praises God throughout the psalm. It seems that he is never-ending in his praise, that it goes on and on and on! And through these pasages we are reminded of the generosity of God and the grace of God.
We continue our discussion of Psalm 145 as we see and acknowledge God's moral goodness manifested in our own lives through His graciousness, mercy, faithfulness and His long-suffering. When we praise Him for His greatness, we testify to the world of His great love and perfect righteousness.
In today's society, we often view worship as something emotional and almost feminine. But King David, described in scripture as a "man after God's own heart", provided one of the best examples of a life lived out in complete submission to, and worship of, God.
When Moses went to Mount Sinai to commune with God, the people of Israel sinned by making a false idol out of gold. And in their sinfulness, they forgot who God was and what He had done for them. - Leaders are accountable to God for their stewardship and influence.
- The loving discipline of God should not be ignored.
- God is faithful, even when we are not.

In reviewing Zephaniah 2:4-15, we are reminded of: God's sovereignty over all the nations; that He is moving all of history towards the restoration of all things; that there is danger in pride and self-sufficiency; and finally we are reminded of the great question of life~ what will YOU do with God?
Guest Pastor Chris Dickerson takes us through the first few verses of Luke, chapter 4. We see how Jesus was tempted by satan during his time in the wilderness. We see how Jesus's responses to temptation were perfect and without error. And in His responses, we see a model for how we can respond to (and overcome) temptations in our own lives today.
Message 2 of our Zephania sermon series; As we review the opening verses of Chapter 2, we read of Zephaniah's call for repentenace to the people of Judah; the time for repentance and a description of what true repentance looks like. Through the prophet's warnings, we see instruction that is applicable to our world today...that we are to seek the Lord in humility; seek the Lord in obedience and, finally, seek the Lord in righteousness. Only through true repentance and salvation through Jesus Christ may we avoid the coming day of the Lord.
A study on the book of Zephaniah. The minor prophet Zephaniah warns Israel of the coming Day of Judgement from the Lord; a topic that is certainly as relevant today as it was when it was first written.
Our final message in a months-long sermon series on Vision. We review and discuss 1 Peter 1:13-21 and the idea that our hope in Christ should produce in us a holiness of life…not because we are following God from a legalistic view but because the love of God and the judgement of God and the hope we have in Christ will literally change how we choose to live our lives. A fantastic message that is extremely relevant to the world we live in today and the challenges that all believers face to be conformed to the world.
The Apostle Peter reminds us that believers are aliens in this world, that ultimately the earth is not our home. And as such, we will be subject to trials, challenges and suffering. But scripture calls us to be "joyful aliens" and brings to mind 4 truths about our trials: they are varied, they are transitory, they can be painful but ultimately they serve a purpose.
What enabled the Apostle Paul to forsake a life of pleasing others or self and instead seek to please God? Paul possessed an eternal mindset. As a result, he lived his life in a way that pointed to God, glorified God and directed other believers to God. In fact, we are still feeling his impact today, nearly 2,000 years later.
One of the challenges that believers face in this life is that we live in the "already" but also in the "not yet". We have been saved by Christ yet we still live in this world with its challenges, temptations and pressures. But even if our afflictions here last a lifetime, they are light and momentary when compared to the glory that awaits us in eternity.
For message 16 of our "Our Story" sermon series, our Children and Family Pastor Steve Alde steps in for Dr. Kinlaw to continue our discussion on our Vision point #5~ Living Truth and Love. He reminds us that we are in a fight not against flesh and blood but against the spiritual forces of evil. Steve goes on to discuss what is the truth and God's purpose and wraps things up with examples of the truth that brings joy to all believers. A fantastic message you don't want to miss.
In a time of gross moral and spiritual relativism, guest speaker Kris Calhoun delivers a timely message on the importance of knowing the Truth. He looks at scripture and covers three critical points: (1) What is truth, (2) Why is truth important and (3) Discovering truth.
For while we were still helpless, at the appointed moment, Christ died for the ungodly. For rarely will someone die for a just person—though for a good person perhaps someone might even dare to die. But God proves His own love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us! Much more then, since we have now been declared righteous by His blood, we will be saved through Him from wrath. (Romans 5:6-9)
In part 15 of the "Our Story" series, we begin to review another characteristic of people being conformed to the image of Christ: Living truth and love. Dr. Brian Kinlaw looks at 1 John 4:7-12 and discusses the idea that God is love…though perhaps not as how the world defines love. God is the origin of love, the manifestation of God's love is seen in his Son's sacrifice on the cross and God's love is perfection.
In part 14 of the "Our Story" sermon series, Dr. Brian Kinlaw reviews Romans 6:15-23 and pulls 4 key thoughts from scripture: the truth of our enslavement, the practice of our enslavement, the past tragedy of our enslavement to sin and the present victory of our enslavement to Christ. Praise God that if we are saved, we can say we serve a new and better Master!
In order to live a victorious Christian life, we must KNOW the truth, we must reckon to ourselves this truth and begin to apply it to our lives and we must yield to this truth in order that we may be transformed into the image of Christ and He be glorified in and through our lives.
On our journey to reflecting Godly character more and more through our lives, there are three truths we need to know: The believer has been immersed into Christ- His death and His resurrection; the old man has been crucified with Christ; the believer shall live with Christ both now and forever.
Genesis 1:26-28 tells us that we were created in the image of the triune God. What a glorious realization. Six attributes of God with which man has been endued are: language, creativity, love, holiness, immortality and freedom. But sin has distorted the image of God in man, twisting our minds and our thinking to believe we are the center of the universe and not God. Thanks be to our creator that by His gracious work of redemption through His Son Jesus Christ, we are made a new creation and the image of God will be fully restored in us!
Guest Pastor Chris Dickerson reviews Hebrews 10:26-31 with us and discusses the difference between "playing church" and truly following the One who has called us and paid for our sins: Jesus Christ. There is danger in knowing yet rejecting the truth of Christ.
Scripture states that we should focus our minds on what is pure, holy, honorable, true and lovely. And if we will do these things and put into practice God's teachings and commandments, and the God of peace will dwell with us.
True wisdom is not humanly discovered as the world believes but rather it is divinely revealed. God, the Creator, has chosen to reveal His wisdom through His Word, His Son Jesus Christ and all of creation.
"Open my eyes that I may see wondrous things from Your law". (Psalm 119:18)
Romans 12:2 reminds us to not be conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of our mind, so that we may discern what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God. When we are in God's Word on a consistent basis and surrounding ourselves with believers, guarding our minds and our hearts, then we will begin to think biblically and thus continue our transformation to look less like the world and more like our Savior Jesus Christ.
When Satan first attacked Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, he did it not through a physical altercation but through their minds. Since the Fall, scripture tells us that our minds have become worthless, hardened, blinded, deceived, corrupt and deprived of the truth. But there is a way to renew our minds and His name is Jesus Christ!

Stories can be timeless. Throughout the history of the world, stories have captured our past, have dreamed of the future and have, to some degree, defined who we are. And the greatest story of all time is one that God calls us to have a primary part in; the story of unending love, selfless sacrifice and, ultimately, redemption.
In the book of Revelation, the Apostle John describes a scene where a strong angel holds up a scroll and asks who is worthy to open it and loose its seals? Scripture tells us that no one on the earth, above or below the earth in all of creation was found to be worthy. But there is One who IS worthy: The Lion of Judah, the slain Lamb, the Son of Man, the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords. And His name is Jesus Christ.
Being obsessed with what people think about you is the quickest way to lose sight of what God thinks about you. Pleasing God often means disappointing people. Extraordinary acts of God often start with ordinary acts of obedience. But if you are not ready to be criticized, you are not ready to be used by God.
Have you ever questioned your standing with God? Much like the shepherds at the birth of Jesus, have you ever felt distant from God, unworthy and inadequate? If so, this is a message you need to hear. For though the Law has brought us death and separation, our faith in Christ alone brings us redemption, acceptance and renewal.
Many times throughout our lives God will prompt us to step out of our comfort zone and set off on an adventure that we would have never expected. And while it can be scary and confusing, the truth is we are simply called to be obedient…not to fully understand. It is God's responsibility for the outcome. You can rest completely in the knowledge that God will never let you fall.
For many, the Christmas season can be a challenging time. Maybe a loved one has passed away at this time of year or maybe its a current health or marriage issue…regardless, we can become depressed, isolated and withdrawn during a season that is supposed to represent hope, joy and glory. But take heed! If you are a believer, Christ the Savior of the World is in you, is with you and is for you. And if God is for you, who or what can stand against you?
Whether we grew up in church or not, chances are we have all heard and been taught "The golden rule"…that we are to love and treat others as we would have them treat us. But the reality is, this is the exact opposite of how the world teaches us to respond to those that hurt, degrade or insult us. the truth is, it is easy to love those that love us back but difficult to love those that don't…but it's essential if we are to show the love of Christ to a lost and hurting world.
Guest Pastor Perry Brindley joins us for this discussion on 2 Timothy 1:16-18 and asks the simple question "What type of church member are you?" Scripture is clear~ Jesus tells believers that they will be persecuted for their faith in Him. And while certainly no one enjoys persecution, the rewards will outweigh the risks. For when we are persecuted for His name sake, we see proof of three things: Who we are, where we are and whose we are...
God's desire for believers is to transform us more and more into His image. And we are closest to Him when we seek to mirror His Son Jesus' life. Do you want to be more like Jesus? Serve others. Jesus came to serve, not to be served. He literally gave His life so that we may have eternal righteousness, life and honor through Him.
To be blessed is to be in the condition of having the approval, acceptance and favor of God that brings deep joy. The reality is that even in our brokeness we can find true joy and peace through Christ...it is only when we come to the end of ourselves and the realization that we are broken and empty can God bring us to the place where we ar made new and filled through Christ and Christ alone.
What drives you? Most of our drives come from either comfort, approval, control or power. When we hunger for and seek after the things of this world, we will find ourselves broken, confused, lonely and disappointed. But when we hunger for the things of God, we will find our cup filled to where we cannot contain the flow!
In Christ we find our blessings. And in our own poverty we find Him. Not material poverty but rather the realization that we are broken, bankrupt and lost without Jesus. When we come to the end of ourselves and acknowledge that we simply aren't able…then will we find the true blessings of a Savior who has given all for us.
In our throwaway fast-food mentality of today's society, it is easy to simply get rid of our problems and start over, even when it comes to our relationships. But God never intended marriage to be that way. Does divorce sometimes happen to Godly people? Yes. But we can strive against such sad outcomes by acknowledging God's true intentions and follow his commands as laid out in scripture. Are you not happy with what you are getting out of your marriage? Perhaps you should first consider what you are investing in your marriage...
As believers we are called to be in the world but not of the world. One of the ways we can show the light of Christ is in our approach to marriage. We should seek to build a solid foundation for our relationship based on God's instructions contained within marriage. Doing so will not only "divorce-proof" our marriages but it will point the world to Jesus.
There is no doubt about it. Married people fight! But there is a way to address our disagreements that will not only solve the problem but also honor our spouses, ourselves and ultimately God. In this message, Dr. Brian Kinlaw highlights the importance of being quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to anger so that we can continue to honor our Lord and each other through our struggles together.
God's Word is clear. Marriage, the union of one man and one woman, was God's idea. And as such, scripture naturally then becomes the best place to go for marital advice. At the core, society depends on a strong family foundation. But in order to have a strong family foundation, we must have strong marriages...marriages that are based on God's precepts and centered on Christ. Any other approach to this holy union is destined to fail.

Psalm 32 offers the roadmap to moving beyond our failures. When we confess our sins to God, repent and make things right with those we may have wronged, we are free to receive the forgiveness of God through His Son Jesus Christ.
It is crucial that believers are committed to be bold in their walk with and their proclamation of Jesus Christ, even when the path is difficult to walk. Bold obedience always requires faith, usually triggers opposition but often releases God's miracles.
John MacArthur in his commentary on the book of Acts writes this: "Ironically, the early church believers had to be commanded to be quiet while many modern (day) believers have to be commanded to speak."
If we believe deeply in who God says He is and who He desires us to be, we will speak boldly His words of Truth to a broken and lost world.
What you pray for reflects what you think about God. Do you pray small, self-focused prayers or do you pray big, impossible prayers? In this message, we review Acts 4 and focus in on the two prayers that the Apostles prayed for: boldness and miracles. Pray bold things to a bold God and watch Him move in mighty ways.
In a fallen world increasingly hardened against the truths contained within God's Word, it is important that believers are bold in their faith, witness and sharing of the Gospel. God gives ordinary people extraordinary faith. Your boldness will amaze the watching world but spiritual boldness only comes from spending time with Jesus.
God's Word is clear. The work that He has begun in believers, He is faithful to complete it. Not by our strength, our power or our abilities, but God and God's alone. This should give us enormous confidence in God, assurance of our salvation and patience with others as we continue to grow in our spiritual walk to being transformed into the image of His Son, Jesus Christ.
Discernment is the ability to decide between truth and error, right and wrong- the act or process of exhibiting keen insight and good judgement. God has provided us with three critical tools for developing our discernment~ God's Spirit; God's Word and God's People. Believers are instructed to honor the Spirit, obey God's Word and test everything.
In chapter 5 of the book of Mark, we find a fascinating account of a woman who had suffered a serious infirmity for 12 years. Nothing she could do helped. She was cut off from her family, her community. She literally had nothing. That is until she met a man named Jesus. And just by touching the hem of His garment, she was healed. Her faith stunned Jesus. He commended her for her faith and welcomed her into the family of God. If there is some obstacle that seems insurmountable in your life, turn to Jesus today. He has promised to make a way!
In his message for Easter Sunday, 2015, Dr. Brian Kinlaw reviews Mark 5:1-20. Scripture reminds us that though we may grieve the loss of our loved ones, that we do not grieve as those with no hope. If our loved ones die in Christ, God grants us reassurance us that we will see them again, that on the day of Christ's second coming, we will be reunited with our loved ones in Christ. But we must choose Christ before it's too late. If we die without knowing Him as our Lord and Savior, there is no hope to give.

Scripture is clear; God's will is for believers to abstain from all sexual immorality. God has not called us to impurity but to sanctification. And when we fail do this, we are not rejecting man or man's teaching, but in effect are rejecting God.

And it is just such a hope in Christ, the ultimate source of Thanksgiving, that allows us to live transformed lives.

Scripture tells us that God has bestowed certain spiritual gifts to all believers, according to the grace given to each one of us. Ultimately what we do with these gifts is up to us. In message #2 of our Gifts Series, Dr. Brian Kinlaw looks at 2 Corinthians 12:7-9 and asks the question "What kind of gift-receiver are you?"
The bible makes clear that our God is a gracious and generous God. The question for us is what kind of gift-receivers are we? How we receive His gifts speaks volumes about our relationship with Him. At times, we fail to enjoy the gifts God has for us because they are different from what we wanted or expected. But great joy and purpose can be found when we receive the gracious gifts our Father has for our lives and use them for His glory.
In our final message of our "Dear Church" Series, Dr. Brian Kinlaw reviews Jesus' letter to the church at Laodicea and discusses the danger of being neither hot nor cold for Christ, but rather only "lukewarm", something Jesus despises.
In the letter to the first century church at Philadelphia, Jesus commends the church for keeping His Word and not denying His name even in the face of continuing persecution. These words of encouragement are applicable for today's Church. Jesus promises believers everywhere that if we will stand firm in the face of persecution, stay faithful to Him and keep His commands, He promises to be our provision, our vindication and our protection. Stand ever ready, as no man knows the time or hour of His returning.
On average, 80% of churches in North America have reached a plateu or are declining. If we are to continue to be effective for God's Kingdom, we must not simply look back on our past accomplishments, but must continue to stand diligently in the present. We must be alert, strengthen what remains and where necessary, repent for our misdirections and our falling aways.
In message 4 of our "Dear Church" series, we look at Revelation 2:18-29. Jesus is commending the church at Thyatira for their love, faithfulness, service and endurance to God. But He also offers up a serious criticism~ some in the church are allowing the surrounding pagan culture to begin to creep into the body of believers. As followers of Christ we must take a strong stand against false teachings, we should seek to continue to grow in godly deeds and we must stand in the face of the pressures of the world.
In the letter to the church at Pergamum, Jesus commends them for their faithful witness and their endurance under persecution. However, He also criticizes for their failure to stand completely against the pagan rituals and practices that had begun to creep into the church. He offers one word of advice: repent. Today, the message is the same~ we must guard our hearts and minds against false teachings and teachers; we must avoid compromise that betrays a faithful stance upon the truth of God's Word and the church must confront, in love, those in error.
In message 2 of our "Dear Church" series, Dr. Brian Kinlaw discusses Jesus' letter to the first century church at Smyrna. He commends them for remaining true to Him despite being persecuted for His sake. Dr. Kinlaw then challenges believers today to acknowledge, pray for and actively seek to aid those being persecuted for Christ's name still today, to realize such persecution could happen in America and to challenge us to remain true to Jesus no matter what may come...that in the end, He will set all things right.
In message 1 of the series "Dear Church", Dr. Brian Kinlaw reviews Jesus's message to the church at Ephesus found in Revelation 2:1-7. Jesus commends the church for it's perseverance and endurance of persecution and hardships for His name. But He also condemns the body of believers for ultimately falling away from their first love: Jesus. It is important that the church continues to stand against heresy, faithfully endures persecution but also returns to her first love.

In Ephesians 2, Paul reminds believers that apart from the saving grace of Christ, we are dead. Death equals separation from God. The spiritually dead are under the sway of 3 great forces/powers: the world, the Devil and the flesh. But through Christ, we are granted eternal life and can begin to experience all the blessings God has planned for our lives.
In Ephesians, 1:15-23, Paul prays that believers would know and live in the truth regarding three things already theirs in Christ: the hope of His calling; the riches of His inheritance and the greatness of His power.
Paul reminds us that we as believers are heirs in Christ; through Christ we have been sealed with The Holy Spirit; the purpose of God's blessings are always ultimately to glorify Himself.
In Ephesians, chapter 1, Paul reminds us that God doesn't see us as the world sees us. God sees us as redeemed, forgiven, adopted. In Christ, we are graced with wisdom and understanding and are a part of God's big plan.
