Have you ever felt overwhelmed by the weight of shame? Whether it’s shame that has been forced on to you by others, or you are wrestling with it internally, there’s a way for you to be free of that burden.
In Mark 14:33-34, Jesus feels overwhelmed by the weight of the pain He’s feeling, stating that His soul was “overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death”. Rather than hiding this, He asked three of His disciples to keep watch for Him– to look out for Him. Jesus was deeply vulnerable with those that He trusted in a moment of great burden. Who in your life can you look to when your heart feels overwhelmed?

What does it mean to multiply your faith?
The strategy of multiplication is exactly how Jesus spread the good news of the gospel over 2,000 years ago. Rather than using His divine power to make everyone believe, He instead allowed people to spread His message across the globe through the process of discipleship.
2 Timothy 2:2 says "And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others" (NIV). As a church we need more people to begin discipling others, because without that, we will never reach those that are far away.

Jesus invited people to become disciples - apprentices of his way of life. In His time, people chose a rabbi to follow and model their life after. Do you have a model that you are following as you build your life? Who's example are you looking to for guidance on how to make decisions?
One of Jesus' key teachings that helps us consider how well we are following Jesus - modeling our life after His - is faithfulness. In a world with so many options for our time and focus, Jesus teaches that consistency in our actions marks us as his disciples. Over time, consistency shapes our character and makes us someone worth following.

The Bible's plan for Christians is that they would become leaders and teachers - people who know their faith, practice it and help others grow in theirs. How we become these leaders and teachers in the faith is by following Christians who are ahead of us and are willing to participate in our growing process. This is discipleship. Your challenge is to find someone ahead of you in the faith and follow them as they follow Christ.

It's human nature to experience change, but what do you do when you stop growing?
True transformation and growth will occur when we align ourselves with the mission given to us by Jesus. By recognizing our need for personal growth, embracing the call to multiply through relationships and discipleship, and surrendering to God's transformative work, we can fully embrace our mission and experience everything God has in store for us.

Have you ever felt like your failures disqualify you for being used by God? You're not alone - and the good news is that real encounters with Jesus invite us into new identity and new hope.
In the Gospel of John, the story of Jesus' disciple Peter is a story about a character who wrestles with failure and who is built up again by Jesus. This means for us that Jesus wants to speak to our identity and turn our failures into something new.

What needs to be cut out of your life to make more room for Jesus?
In John chapter 15, Jesus states "I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit". This analogy of a vine and branches is used as a way to teach Jesus' disciples (and us) about the importance of abiding in Him. Through this act, we find ourselves "bearing fruit", or in other words, experiencing growth in our character and in our spiritual lives.

Does the Bible have anything to say about finding healing from trauma? It does - we just don't go deep enough. When you encounter Jesus, you encounter the one who the Scriptures say heals our wounds by his wounds...
In The Gospel of John chapter 9, Jesus miraculously heals a man who was born blind, and what unfolds from the encounter is an unearthing of community rejection, religious barriers and trauma. In this strange story of healing, you can see how Jesus is interested in exposing our pain and trauma in order to give us true healing. This is a powerful story and message on hope for our own healing, and it is also a challenge to the church about being a place of safety for those looking for God, rather than a source of pain.

One of the main themes of The Gospel of John - and one of the things Jesus is most famous for are his miracles and signs. The Gospel of John details miracles Jesus accomplished among people and outlines what they mean and point to.
In the Gospel of John chapter 5, Jesus does a strange miracle of multiplying bread for a crowd. What unfolds from there is a deep and divisive teaching about how people miss the revelation of who Jesus is because they are focusing on the wrong thing - the miracle, not the miracle giver. Jesus' bread multiplication miracle has far more to do with our spiritual needs than our physical ones!

The Gospel of John features situations where Jesus was approached by someone with a question or issue and instead of giving a simple response, Jesus offers a story or a sign to provide a deeper, satisfying and more clarifying answer.
In The Gospel of John chapter 2, the author John records Jesus' first miraculous sign - turning water into wine at a wedding. Sound strange? People are used to stories of Jesus healing the sick and the poor - but divine intervention for more wine? What does this story tell us about Jesus and our relationship to him? For one thing, God doesn't fit in our categories. For another, God seems to want to tell a deeper story about humanity through weddings...

Pastor Matt Brown gave a keynote speech at a vision night event for our Giving Tuesday 2022 initiative - to build a teen center for at risk youth in San Bernardino. In his talk Pastor Matt talks about the importance of finding your place in God's story and shares about his heart for building The Hill Teen Center in San Bernardino.
The Hill Teen Center will be able to provide students in San Bernardino with access to tutoring, licensed counseling, a state-of-the-art laundry facility, life- and trade-skill training, and a safe space to hang out with friends and mentors who care deeply for them—all free of charge. We have the building, and we are ready to begin renovation, but we need your help to bring this project to life.

Kingdom come...what does that mean? One of the things Jesus taught his followers to pray was for God's kingdom to come. That language is often lost on our modern ears, but what Jesus is getting at is that we ought to pray for and hope for the day when God is king of our world.

Every time there is a traumatic event in our culture we all see the same comment. "Thoughts and prayers go out to the victims of ______." And if we're being honest, that can feel really disingenuous and insensitive to the time. We want action. But, what if there is something to those prayers? What if it's inviting us into a real conversation with the God that created the world.

Throughout the pandemic our country saw mental health issues skyrocket. Adults and children alike struggled and worried about what the future might hold for them. Traditionally, the church has not cared for mental illness well, blaming it on lack of faith and prayer. We saw an interesting trend online when Joe Rogan began sharing his experiences using DMT, using psychedelics to access the spiritual, the spiritual world, or just something that is beyond our physical and mental realm.

We live in an era of outrage. Constant controversies and left versus right dominate our culture. Tragically, the church mirrors this state of affairs in many ways. If Christians can remember the grace of God that first called them, we can find healing.
