This week on I’m joined by Angela Petro, the founder of Sweet Carrot and catering company Together & Co., and simply someone with a lot of stories, laughs, and insight to share!

In this conversation, Angela shares a ton of wisdom, and also a little judgment, mostly for the fact that I’ve never worked a serving job and haven’t watched enough Ted Lasso...(This is fair.)

We get into how she built Sweet Carrot from a food truck, to one physical location to three…and why she eventually brought it back down to one. We talk about the reality of running businesses in the hospitality world, how the pandemic changed everything, and how her first catering gig was…of all things, a funeral! Angela also shares how living in Germany helped her discover her love for hospitality, the differences in how other countries view service work, and how Columbus has its own food culture and challenges. We dig into creative burnout, figuring out if you’re more of a visionary or an implementor, and what it’s like for our goals to change shape and navigating the change.

Angela’s now doing some amazing work in leadership development, and we also chat about what’s next as she gears up for a Sweet Carrot relaunch. It’s a good one, especially if you’ve ever worked in food service, tried to build something from scratch, or just love a good story!

Nick Giumenti (@nickgiumenti) joins me this week for a wide-ranging, honest, and reflective conversation about the journey of My Ticket Home, the band's recent return, and what really happened to the long-lost MTH album. We dig into the early grind of being underage on tour, the evolution of the music industry and evevoling relationship with it, better defining what we want and don't want in life, the evolution of MTH's sound, the cult-like-following "Strangers Only" gained over time, the difference in sound between that and their follow up "unReal", how the band found itself taking a break, and what it's like trying to define success as a creative today.

Nick opens up about the personal growth that came during the band's hiatus, how his side project Headcave came to be, and what keeps us both creatively motivated in a world that doesn't always instantly reward risk or authenticity. From skipping high school graduation to play a concert, to rediscovering why making music still matters, recorded just days after MTH's return show in Columbus, OH, this one's full of life lessons, music industry talk, and finding that creative fire!

Tara’s a seasoned vet in the world of improv comedy, along with her worldwide traveling show “HERE The Improvised Musical”, and lately, she’s become your resident positive pep-talker over on instagram and TikTok. We also dive into the importance of community, why people aren’t connecting with their neighbors like they used to, practices to get better at staying connected with friends in a fast-paced world, and building inclusive creative spaces for communities.

And of course, we get into some deeper conversations about defining success in the arts. Tara reminds us that there’s no single path, whether you’re doing something professionally or just for the love of it, the journey is valid!

Mikey Liesner is a Videographer, Documentarian, and co-host of The Strange Road Podcast.

This one gets chalked up into that column of episodes that I can simply describe as FUN.

As we dive into Mikey's story of navigating a career in video, we really dig into how it all started when he was young, due to him wanting to grab a camera to travel the world and document the strange and unusual. This conversation is filled with talking about fun things like ancient sites like the serpent mound here in Ohio, lost civilizations, wild conspiracies, aliens, ghosts, cryptids and a bunch of other stuff that I love but don’t ever get to talk about on this show. As we weave in and out of paranormal talk, we also cover things battling creative burnout and fighting for motivation to chase goals and get things accomplished, projects he still wants to achieve, some of the amazing people he's met in his travels, and a few wildly interesting experiences to go with it all. The best way I can explain this one, is just flat out fun!

Sean Mackowski (@sean2damax) is an Entrepreneur, Musician and most recently Founder of guitar pedal company, Tallon Electric.

After finding and following a passion for music at a young age that lead him into the touring worlds in bands like My Ticket Home, Attack Attack! and Truslow, Sean also noticed that while he was involved in many of these creative endeavours, his real knack was an attention to details and problem solving. As we dig into his story of going from the music world to the business world, we dig into the stories of transitions between the few bands he's been in, always seeing himself as the role of "supportive player" and enjoying the systems behind what makes success rather than the spotlight itself, his approach at being driven less by creative and more by solutions, navigating the launch (and closing) of a few different companies, how it all lead to a passion for building guitar pedals and his newest brand Tallon + a bunch more!

We're opening up the WYDH vault this week and diving WAY back in to what was originally Episode 8, and my conversation with creator of OHD Video (then OhioHD Video) Scott Handel.

SO much has happened since this interview years ago, but, I felt this one was worth a reshare given Scott's story of starting OHD, and all the hidden gems within. He shares a lot about the importance behind taking opportunities when they're presented, and more so, looking for our own chance to make those opportunities for ourselves. Lots of talk on pursuing creative goals, entrepreneurship, the video production world, the value of showing up and just putting in the work for what you want, and a lot more!

Like I noted, so much has changed in the world of OHD, Scott and even myself, since this one was originally was recorded, and it's probably very worth us getting a fresh sit down some time in the near future to truly catch things up! But for now, enjoy this throwback to late 2019.

In this episode, I sit down with Brandi Lust, a powerful advocate for personal growth, community building, and host of CreativeMornings here in Columbus, Ohio.

We dive deep into the challenges that creatives face, especially in times of uncertainty, where things just aren’t working the way they used to. Brandi opens up about her own struggles in the creative world and how she’s learning to trust herself through these transitions. We also get into her professional journey, shifting from a career as a teacher to becoming a consultant, speaker, and mindfulness advocate. Brandi’s passion for personal development shines through as she talks about how helping people gain new awareness and insights lights her up, and how she’s dedicated to shifting the culture in workplaces to foster authentic growth.

We touch on many interesting subjects, such as the idea of “care washing” in work environments—where companies project fake values to seem more caring—and the need for real, genuine culture shifts. Brandi shares her thoughts on how organizations can sometimes push false narratives to seem compassionate, but real change only happens when there's a deeper sense of authenticity.

We also discuss the balance between being true to ourselves in our personal and professional lives, especially when the lines get blurry. Brandi shares some powerful advice on how to stay connected to your true self, no matter what external challenges or expectations you face. And for anyone curious about consulting, Brandi shares some golden insights on how she got started in that world, blending her passion for personal growth with helping organizations create meaningful change.

Brandi openly shares her journey of self-discovery, from navigating major life transitions to embracing her true self after coming out later in life. She talks about leaving a long-term relationship, moving into her own space, and the waves of grief that came with it, but also the joy in rediscovering her identity and finding peace in the chaos.

This was a super deep and inspiring conversation, full of vulnerable moments and valuable takeaways. Seriously one of my new favs, filled with gems! —Brandi is truly one of a kind!

Brian Penn is the owner of Clean Kicks, a shoe restoration and cleaning service.

Guys, this episode is just flat out great. Plain and simple. As we dig into Brian's story, not only do we talk about how a lifelong passion for sneaker culture pushed him to start up the idea mid-pandemic, but, he really opens up about his entire life journey. From being born with eye issues that had doctors say he’d be blind by 7, to growing up without a father figure and losing his way, even to at one point in time being at his lowest and being homeless. We talk about his experience with it all, and how it led him to being the really amazing person that sat with me for this podcast.

We also cover; The difficulty of wishing people knew your actual inner struggles, hoping to make a great impact on others around you, how much easier it is to be negative than positive (and how to get past that), not chasing external validation, his passion for lyricism and music, the humility that comes with personal growth and owning up to our mistakes, and of course the impact he's making with his company Clean Kicks and how it all got started as a favor for a friend. For real, I can’t say enough nice things about Brian and this episode. Great guy, who just wants to live life and help others.

In this episode, I sit down with the talented (and hilarious) Mark Eshleman, AKA ReelBear Media.

Mark has been instrumental in shaping the visual identity of a lot of great artists, most notably through his long-standing collaboration with Twenty One Pilots. We dive deep into his journey, starting from his early days in video production, and while we cover the story of how he first connected with TOP and how their creative partnership evolved over the years, the biggest topic of discussion that threads throughout this one, is that of identity and self-discovery.

We also discuss the power of YouTube and social media in today’s music industry, and how these platforms have changed the way content is distributed and consumed, the importance of staying authentic in creation, being persistent, and continuously learning ever-changing industries. All the while, we ramble, laugh and giggle like two school children who stayed up too late. It’s a blast!

Whether you’re a fan of Mark’s work, a creative looking for inspiration, or just curious about the behind-the-scenes of video production and the creative process, this episode is packed with stuff you won’t want to miss. Most of all, the reminder to slow down, and zoom out on our life once in a while!

Austin Parker is a Fitness Coach and Personal Trainer under his brand 'APFit'.

Austin knew from a young age that he had a real passion for the fitness world, and after playing 4 years of College Basketball and living the corparate America life, he decided to take the dive fulltime into becoming a Personal Trainer and took that leap of faith to believe in himself, and follow his purpose! In Austin's story we talk a lot about self-believe and the work it takes to uncover it, as well as how he balanced a "regular" job through the day but still made time to build up his personal brand as a coach, all while making time for training sessions both before and after work. We also dive into the value of building a personal brand and the impact it makes on connecting with others, his love for music and wishing he pursued it, dealing with heavy depression in college, why we should challenge ourselves in order to get better, finding your "purpose" and living a life built off that + a lot more! This is a real good conversation with Austin and one that will have you feeling positively motivated when you turn it off!

Bridjet Mendy is a Comedian from Columbus, OH.

This week I get to know my (until now) good internet friend Bridjet Mendy and how she entered the comedy world, getting involved in stand-up and improv. We chat what got her interested in improv and getting started in Chicago, navigating a fear of public speaking, and how she started in stand up. We also each dig into our time (and gripes) working in the music industry, her time as a publicist, how she lived real life movie scenes by pretending to work at the HQ's of businesses she wanted jobs with (including P. Diddy's office) to get inside, the value in doing things that make us happy, uncovering our "whys", and well...A LOT of pro wrestling fandom talk.

We made it to 100 episodes! It's a bit of a different episode for this one as I wanted to do something unique to lookback at 4 years and 100 episodes of making this show, so I called upon friend of the show, friend of mine, and reocurring guest Josh Emerick, to once again come on and take helm of the host's chair to help guide me through this one!

He helps me spotlight and celebrate this podcast coming this far, how it's changed and evolved since the beginning, and we also catch up on the life side of things and how I've grown in the last few years since my full story episode, way back on E28. I wanted to also spotlight you, my dear listeners and give you the reigns for the topics in this one and you showed up! We dive into a Q&A portion in the last half of this one, answering all the rad questions and subjects you guys submitted (which seriously, thank you for that) some of which include topics like; Navigating the balance of mutliple creative pursuits, Goals for the next 12 months, The hardest parts of making this podcast, Going viral, When have you felt the most vulnerable, Regrets, Biggest lesson learned from my guests & more!

I've said it everywhere else in this episode and I'll say it here, thank you for supporting this show so I can do what I love and sit and talk to people about their lives. Thank you to my guests, listeners, viewers, partners and anyone who's supported this show in any way!

While Terrance and I are no strangers to podcasting together, as he's been a reocurring guest on my improv comedy show 'Whose Life is it Anyway?', we had never gotten to sit down and get to know one another sans-making everything up.

As we dive into all things Terrance we cover how he got into the world of comedy, what drew him to improv, unknowingly getting signed up for his first open mic (and doing it still), what the growing comedy scene is like in Columbus, learning to get past personal roadblocks, realizing the barrier of entry for dreams is a lot lower than we think, and a ton more in what is a VERY fun conversation. It's another great one from the archives! What was originally Episode 41, now Episode 97, it's a seriously FUN conversation with my friend Ryan Francis.

Ryan was "Darren" in indie-cult-classic horror comedy "ThanksKilling", and is also a musician under his moniker "Huge Euge", he's been an event promoter as well, but more than anything, he's one of the most fun people to sit and talk to!

I label this episode simply a "feel good" conversation because while digging through Ryan's story, what's uncovered is a ton of fun side stories willed with tons of laughs, that are all encapsulated around the idea of doing your best to enjoy your life, create memories, experiences and connections with those around you, and to simply have a just do it mentality. (Nike stole that from him btw!)

Heather Evans is a musician & singer/songwriter.

What was originally Episode 37, is now Episode 94 and it's an awesome conversation with my friend Heather Evans.

We were just meeting for the first time a couple years back when we recorded this, and out of this initial conversation, an awesome friendship was made! All built off of Heather's vulnerable and authentic way of sharing her story. It's a story I (obviously) felt needed a spotlight shined on it once again because Heather shares a LOT about what she's been through. We talk a lot about resilience, second chances, understanding the true value of life, facing your inner demons and more so learning we have it in us to overcome them.

This is one of those episoides I label "one of the best" in the show's history. Listen and find out why!

This is another personally meaningful episode to me this week, as I sit down with my longtime friend Matthew Weiner, President of his own Insurance Agency, The Weiner Group.

But he wasn't always head of his own company! We uncover his full journey in this episode, from battling the fear of what it means to "grow up" to finding financial freedom by taking his own path.

From at one point in time being 2 weirdo "scene kids" who's lives revolved around the music industry, to now, 2 weirdo adults who work for themselves, Matthew and I had a lot of catching up to do! While we've stayed in relative contact since being teenagers, there's a lot of Matthew's entrepreneurial journey that I only saw play out online, and there's a LOT more to it.

This is easily one of my new favorite episodes as Matthew's very honest and straight forward storytelling sheds a lot of light on how he went from being in literal tears due to not wanting to "grow up", to working for others and realizing he wasn't happy, to having $0 in his account his kids on the way, to then carving is own path, starting his own life insurance agency and being able to purchase his actual dream car. We genuinely cover it all in this one!

Casey Steinmiller is a touring Music Photographer & Content Creator.

And that, is actually how we met many years ago! It was back in my days of being a live music photographer myself when he and I met out on a DIY tour, and formed a friendship that ever since has truthfully been kept alive all by the internet! Fittingly, that's how we had this conversation as well!

In a remote conversation, Casey and I dive into his competitiveness that has actually been the driving force for him since he was young. Whether it was in track during school, or eventually translating that into the creative world upon finding his love for photography, Casey's held onto the mental drive that got him through physical races and now finds ways to use that same skill even to this day. We dive into a lot of that in this episode! We cover how he found his passion for photography, the value of creating your own opportunities and how he did it, how he started doing photos for bands and live gigs in general via putting himself out there, what kept him going when he entered the often whacky world of tour life, the value of understanding what drives you and turning that into mental fuel, acheiving creation goals and bucket list artists he's worked with, and we even talk about going to war together!....(We've played Call of Duty Warzone a lot)

My guest this week is Amy Corey, and Amy, is a lot of things!

Amy is a Musician, Singer/Songwriter, TEDx Speaker, Model, Motivational Speaker, Mindset/Life coach an truthfully, whatever else her heart desires!

This conversation came about a few months ago while I was actually in between recordings for this show, but after a random email popped up from Amy about adding the show to a press tour she was on while in Columbus, after looking into her a bit, I'm glad we made it happen!

While Amy has shared her story countless times, I'm glad I was able to add another one to the count with this episode, because her story is made of everything this show was built on. From her experience in growing up as an adoptee, losing loved ones, dealing with major heartbreak, battling addiction, living with deep depression, making a career in music, and more so learning to turn her traumas into things that not only she pushed through, but is now able to share and help others push through with her speaking work, we dig into it all in a powerful and vulnerable conversation.

Sometimes we gotta step back and think how we really impact those around us.

No, this isn't a 15 Minute Friday about how to be a super cool influencer to people around you. It's instead a topic based around a question that my guest Josh Emerick and I often check in with ourselves on. How do we impact those around us? Are we actually being a positive energy source? Are we helpeful or in the way? In this one Josh sits down with me again to break down this question and share some opinion on how we could all be a more positive influence, and why.

What was originally Episode 12 back in 2020, is now #84, my original conversation with the talented Larry Robertson.

Larry Robertson is a Poet, Stylist, Author and Artist, and I'm sure since we had this chat years ago, he's added more to that list! So this is another past episode from the early days of this show that I think deserves a revisit, as I sat down with the multi-talented Larry to chat about all the things he does/has done and wants to do!

If you do wanna go check out what all he’s up to now, you can follow him @larryrobertson or if you wanna find either of his poetry books, Words Saved Lives which we talked about in this episode, or his second book Earth Based Poems, you can find those over at wordssavedlives.com!

"Motherhood is not a diagnosis."

On this 15 Minute Friday, Hanisha Patel returns to sit down with me again for the first time in 3 years. (Aside from her recent full episode repost!) In this one she's speaking on the topic of postpartum care for new mothers and what's missing in the conventional ways that have been in place for a while. This comes from going through her own postpartum experience after having a baby since she was last on the show!

She shares what she believes is overlooked and why, the lack of follow up care that mothers seem to get, how symptoms are often looked over and the issue with it being dismissed as "that's just motherhood" and a lot more!

The Scatter Joy Project is a non-profit organization + apparel brand that focuses on fighting the stigma of/offering help surrounding mental health and mental health battles.

I sit down in this one for a solid conversation with Zachariah Thompson of Scatter Joy to chat all things mental health, the brand itself, and of course his journey behind how SJ was created and why! Zach shares a lot about his own personal battles with mental well-being, fighting depression, and how making it through thoughts of taking his own life eventually led to the creation of a platform designed to inform and help others in similiar struggles.

Outside of his story, we talk a lot about the stigmas surrounding mental health, how it's become a bit of a buzzword topic these days and the importance of keeping a light shed on it, the value of talking about your problems, the difficulty of finding help sometimes, how important self-love really is, how selfishness in times of need allows you to be selfless for those around you when they're in need, the idea of inner and outer confidence in our mind, his mission for Scatter Joy and much more.

Davey Muise is a Musician and vocalist in his new project Hematite, and past projects Trove and Vanna.

In this episode Davey and I sit down virtually to finally bring an internet friendship to life (sort of!) for a very very fun and in depth conversations about all things life, hardships, creativity, music, pursuit of happiness, and of course, all things Davey!

We're both detailed talkers, so our conversation goes all over the place and we cover a TON of stuff as we uncover Davey's journey of literally being left for dead as a baby, being adopted, growing up and finding his passion for music, hitting the road and music business hard with Vanna, what led him to needing to move on from that project and move into Trove, battling burnout with music in general, realizing he wasn't taking care of himself well enough to pursue these goals, becoming a public speaker and traveling to tons of schools sharing his story, how that also led to a mental crash and burn, what it all taught him about self-fulfillment and keeping our "cup" full, & TONS more.

This is one of my favorite conversations I've had on the show and it wasn't even in person!

This is a REPOST from what was originally Episode 27.

Being three years into the show, I felt it was time to start shining some spotlight back on older solid episodes every once in a while. So here we go!

This is, what I still believe to be an awesome conversation with Dr. Hanisha Patel, ND, who is a Naturopathic Doctor and owner of the brand Mahan Health. It was her own journey in dealing with health issues that lead her to now focusing on gut health, Integrative Fertility, Pregnancy & Postpartum Care & lots more, helping tons find their great, or "mahan" health of their own!

This episode is filled with not only Hanisha's story, but many gems of knowledge dropped all throughout it when it comes to things like holistic health lifestyles, being a Naturopathic Doctor, what having a "positive mindset" does and does not mean, breaking down how we speak to ourselves and why that matters & just tons more quality stuff that I wanted to shine the spotlight back on a couple years after this originally aired!

Rasheedah Crawly is an Entrepreneur and the Owner of Franklinton Market & Luxe Skincare.

This week is such a fun and insightful episode as I sit and get to know Rasheedah and all that she does and wants to do right here in Columbus, OH. A few months ago I saw news that a "market" was coming to Franklinton, which is the area this podcast's studio currently resides in. While that doesn't sound like a big deal, what it meant was I could go grab drinks and snacks right across the street anytime and didn't have to drive a few miles for it anymore! So, you'll hear me chat with Rasheedah about how wonderful that is, but of course we dive into how the Market came to be out of necessity not just for people in the area, but it all started from Rasheedah herself wishing it existed! We talk about her background in marketing, the whole process of how her and her business partner created the Market, her goals with it, the growth of the city of Columbus, what's preventing certain growth, what prevents us as indivuduals from growing in general and how to get past that, starting her skincare brand 'Luxe' & lots more!

Will Deely is a musician, guitarist and singer/songwriter.

While most often it’s over some Chipotle, this week I sit down with my friend Will Deely. We dive into his music infused back story of finding his passion for playing guitar and eventually singing, that led him through being the trusted “go to” guy for so many bands and artists over the years. We uncover how all this turned into a solo songwriting path, which eventually turned into his project Heavy Things, and eventually turning into now performing as the live guitarist for Beartooth.

Avoiding the sick sound bytes along the way, we chat about creative burnout, trusting yourself and your skills to just “do the thing”, embracing positive influences around you as motivation to do better, finding your “zen” between the highs and lows of life, what he’s learned via all the projects he’s been a part of over the years, joining a touring band right as the pandemic began, refining his songwriting skills currently and lots more in this fun one. Want a bunch of potentially new music to check out? Find the list of some of Will's projects BELOW.

This is a REPOST from way back, of Episode 5!

Being three years into the show now, I felt it was time to start shining some spotlight back on older solid episodes every once in a while. So here we go!

This was my conversation with my multi-talented friend Nate Winkelmes. Nate is an Entrepreneur, Web Developer and musician/producer.

This episode was a good early example of what I wanted the show to be. We cover Nate’s story of navigating the creative and business world, while holding onto his passion for music along the way. We talk about: Embracing multiple avenues of creative interests, playing the comparison game to everyone else, going from being a freelancer to starting his own agency, that agency eventually failing and how it felt, how he didn’t realize that he actually paid my bills for a year as I worked for his agency, his Dad losing his life to alcoholism and how he’s actively battled with the same issues, rediscovering his passion for music and pursuing that at the time, & a lot more in a very raw and honest conversation that, to this day, I’m still thankful to Nate for opening up with so early on when this show was in its infancy.

Krista Janescko is a Personal Trainer and CrossFit Coach at CrossFit Gahanna.

This week I sit down with my friend (and new big sister) Krista, for a conversation that I will deem simply a “feel good” story.

As we dive into Krista’s story, you’ll hear her note that she’s “not that interesting” but the more we uncover, the more we find out that everyone’s story matters regardless of how cool we may or may not perceive our journey! In her story, we talk about how growing up a pretty normal life, in ways was almost “too normal” as she never had that special something that she did for herself. We cover that while she identified a lack of hobbies, being sprung into motherhood at a young age of course became her main focus and it wasn’t until a health scare and injury that she found fitness via crossfit as just the thing she needed. We dig into the importance of self love, making sure we have hobbies and things we not only can identify with, but enjoy, the struggles and power of motherhood, how hard it’s been navigating it all as a single Mom at times, the constant ups and downs of life, finding herself in some very dark mental and emotional moments not feeling she was good enough and what she did to push through, how to really be more present with your emotions in times of difficulty and understanding what to do to get through it, finding herself along the way and how that turned into becoming a CrossFit coach, how much she loves helping others now on their journey, learning how to find the “tools” within you needed to become a better you & so much more good stuff I could list it for days. If you want to feel inspired and simply feel like life will work if you do, go listen!

Oh yeah also, come see us both at the gym sometime!

Jake Floyd is the bassest and one half of the band 'The Orphan The Poet'.

This week I sit down and finally get to know my friend Jake Floyd after years of being internet friends, and having heard the other half of the story of "TOTP" a couple years back here on the show when I had vocalist David Eselgroth on, I finally get his part of the journey! We cover how Jake first fell in love with music after attending his first live show, each of us being from small towns and finding creative paths out of them, lots of music/business talk on how navigating a band is just like running a business in many ways, how he was sure about wanting to play music with his life and going on tour straight out of high school, and how he randomly met David and then joined what would become The Orphan The Poet. We also talk a lot about the value of "learning while you go" by just trying things you want to get better at, how many freelance skills we acquire on our own could and should hold up on any "real job" resume, finding confidence in your creative work, creating a "gimmick" and branding a project and the reasons why it's important, the often draining methods of posting on social media and hoping it keeps it's art-filled purpose when doing so, the stress it can all bring as a musician and how to deal with it, and lots more!

This one's such a fun episode as I sit and chat with the wonderful Simi Botic. We uncover the creation of her movement brand + barre class 'Unmeasured', and more so how it all spawned from dealing with her own body image + eating issues and not feeling truly worthy of a healthy life. We talk a lot about self-doubt and inner voices, and how to talk to those inner voices but let them control us. We dig into a lot of mental health talk, trying to not focus on the bad even when things are good, intrusive thoughts and not letting them win, learning better self-compassion, being hyper-self-aware humans and what that can do to us, how to do things right now to better help your future self, why goals don't have to be "all or nothing", putting yourself and your creations out there and not worrying about opinions, why she loves her "barre" classes, what exactly Unmeasured is, where she wants it to grow and help more people with their health + body battles, and tons more! It's EPISODE 69.....NICE.

My guest for this special occassion is someone who chose this very specific episode to be on over a year ago, and his name is William Mount!

William Mount is a fellow podcaster over at this own Podcast Network 'Loudcat Podcasts' where he produces and/or hosts MANY shows, most notibly his show 'The Sounds of Bustown'.

After planning this, what seems like forever ago, we finally get to sit down and dig into just who William is outside of a friend I know has a bunch of podcasts too. We dig in to how he started down this road of talking into microphones, why he loves it, how he started his own network and why, his love for conversation, where this creative mindset came from, having a slightly troublesome childhood with an alcoholic Father, depressive struggles as a teen, how these issues taught him how valuable our time is & a lot more as we dig into William's story like you've never heard before.

In this episode Angie shares her story of childhood turmoil, the stress of constant family issues, the story of coming out to her parents after feeling the need to hide it for so long, a literal fight with her stepdad leading to police involvement, getting into stand up comedy, fighting the urge to just give things up sometimes & lots more, as always.

She breaks down holistic health to simpler straight forward terms, explaining it's less magical than it sounds. What's your relationship with social media REALLY like?

In this 15MF Sarah Reed returns to the show to talk with me about this very thing. We cover a couple sides of this social connection and how it can be bad, but made better. We tackle the angles of both using social as a creative/business person AND simply as a human being consuming it.

We cover the easy trap of doom-scrolling, how to better filter what you ingest in your feeds, how to not just worry about trends as a creator, learning to find what we ENJOY about using social media and all in all just what we've each done to take better control over how we both create and consume on the platforms.

From his most recent venture 'Ope Cold Brew', to being in bands, or going wild on some mid-2000s emo for Sadboyz here in Columbus, or simply finding himself as a partner in a handful of different business or creative outlets, we've determined he's most fittingly the "Vice-Serial-Entrepreneur" as he simply loves helping people make ideas possible.

We dig into his motives of loving this involvement of helping just make things happen, why he loves connecting with people, how it all spawns from not feeling like he had a welcoming place around him growing up, dropping everything for a music career and how that came to a hault, learning our passions don't HAVE to be a career, learning to use our past to move forward & a ton more in a real fun chat!

It's often easy to feel like we've "failed" when we have to make a decision to pivot from one goal to another, via any reason. On this 15MF I bring Sarah Reed back on the show again to talk about some recent pivots she's made in her career goals and how she did it.

Brian Walsh is the owner/lead trainer at Cross Fit Gahanna.

Earlier in 2021 I decided to finally take the leap into some new self care, and it came in the form of taking up cross fit at Brian's gym. Since then I've gotten to know Brian well as I spend time training under him, and the atmosphere he's created at his gym is a special one. As I sit down to get the full story with Brian, we uncover how he started his own gym, beginnings as a personal trainer and WHY he does it, training people in his garage and small basement before finding an actual building, his constant feeling of challenging himself, his wild college experience and how he learned to get himself together after being told he was going to fail completely and so much about personal growth, how we all learn by being uncomfortable and more.

In this 15MF I'm joined my musician Heather Evans (Episode 37) coming back on the show to chat about a topic that was a heavy theme of her full-length episode, and that's the idea that it's never too late to get started.

We cover what this meant from Heather's perspective as her pursuit of the musical dream didn't always look how she wanted, the idea that we're all supposed to have it figured out "by 30 years old", why that's slowly changing in society, how we can learn to get out of our own ways and recapture our imaginations at any time, and all in all why it most often is never too late to pursue something you want, in some way.

The word and phrase is very much a buzzword in the current social media climate, but here we break down what "thinking positively" really means to us, how it CAN be life changing, how it's more than just saying the words, putting action behind the thoughts, avoiding toxic positivity culture & much more!

Shaena Rabbani is a Columbus based Comedian and writer, and this week brings a wonderful story of growth, self-esteem and finding herself to the show! In this episode as Shaena shares her journey of self discovery, we talk a lot about personal growth, owning who we are, getting past living only for other people, and how it took her years into adulthood to see where this all spawned from and how to resolve it. We also cover how growing up she did not watch TV, therefor had never seen stand up comedy until AFTER she found herself doing it on stage because it sounded fun! Drew Ndengabaganizi (yes we learn how to say it in this ep!) is a DP (Director of Photography) here in Columbus, but we talk about nearly everything else other than video stuff in this one!

In one of my favorite conversations I've had on this show, Drew and I dive in to SO much about life. From creative and career to just day to day. We talk about how we've been trying to get better at just doing things "for the fun of it" and not allowing everything to be a career move and battling that "always be hustling" culture that has formed nowadays. We cover a LOT about social media culture and the battle of finding a good balance within using it, both as personal use and business use, with no only creating FOR social but allowing it to be simply part of your creative venture, and how to simply not get caught up in the machine that it's become. We also cover how a conversation with a Doctor that hated his life choices completely changed Drew's life and career path, and how all this led him to having the outlook on living a fulfilled life that he carries with him now.

Gabe McQueen is the lead vocalist of the band 'Inferious', a writer and all around a creative dude! The latter parts of that I just found out as I've only ever known him as "Gabe from Inferious" as all of our interactions had been in bits and pieces on music video sets. Through those moments though we bonded over a mutual love of horror movies, and all of that, brings us to here. I was stoked to finally get to sit down and get to know Gabe better, as he falls into the category of "friends I wanted to know better", a reoccurring theme here on the podcast. We cover growing up as the son of two Pastors and a religious household, feeling sheltered most of his life, uncovering who he really was as he became an adult, how it all shaped his views on life, people, religion & more. We of course talk how he got into the heavier side of music, what his Mom thought of our music video where we had him perform a demonic ritual and for about the first 30 mins we talk about horror movies some more!

I initially met Cole a few years ago after we met up to talk about myself & THP working together, and after that mainly only kept up via social. It was a few months ago when Cole released a new collection of music through THP and shared a caption entailing a wild story of what the last 2 years of his life was and I knew I wanted to get him on to hear all about it.

Filled with ups and downs, in this episode as Cole shares his story, we talk about the TWO car crashes that led him to dealing with severe concussions for most of 2019-2020, what it was like not being able to write music during that time or even get out of bed, a relationship coming to its end in the middle of all of this and how it all piling on made him feel helpless, how he got himself back to living a normal life, how he tries to keep a positive outlook on things, the story of The Hunting Project, stories from working at a hospital during COVID & lots more in this one.

We talk about how to detach yourself from your goals (in a positive way), making sure you know who you are without that "thing", simply understanding the power of just resting and not chasing the dream 24/7 and how taking that break DOESNT mean you're a quitter.

In this episode I have an amazing conversation with Cincinnati Ohio based hip-hop artist Ray Will.

After initially meeting Ray as a client as we sat down for a meeting to chat about working together, it immediately hit me that not only was he a great person to talk to, but an incredibly passionate person on top of that. From that day, knowing that at some point I wanted to make this podcast happen, he was on my guest list. So, here it is! Ray opens up a lot in this episode making it one of the most tell-all stories to date, and simply a great episode.

This, is a 15 Minute Friday. What is it? These are short-form episodes of the What You Don't Hear podcast, that center around the fundamentals of what this podcast is, but in a quicker format. Releasing on Fridays, of course, aimed to wrap up your week with some positive, motivational, or actionable advice, with conversations centered around specific subjects + topics between Ross + returning guests!

Recurring 15 Minute Friday co-host Josh Emerick is back in this episode where he and Ross sat down and chatted over the importance of meetings and why you should be having more of them. While this was recorded pre-COVID, every point made still stands whether it's sitting down with someone in person or over Zoom, what matters in the end is about having communication before you work with someone!

In this episode I sit down with Doug Joseph, founder and owner of Columbus based Creative Agency, Serif Creative.

Being from the same general area of Southern Ohio, I’ve known Doug for many many years, but we’ve never really sat down for a deep dive of a conversation. What better place to get to know someone than a podcast! We chat about Doug’s beginnings in the creative world, how he ended up pursuing entrepreneurship, how he created Serif, what it’s like keeping a business alive and of course more motivating one-liners than you can shake a stick at. All that + more in this episode of another story that you’ve never heard before!

There's a different guest for a 15 Minute Friday! In this episode, recent guest and Band-Dad Raymond Rasmusson takes the advice seat across from Ross and they chat about the clarity that many musicians should have. Having both dealt with many bands and artist's over the years of their work in the music industry, Ross & Ray share their thoughts on the often odd lack of clarity musicians have for what they do or do not want out of their project, and share their thoughts on how to better approach it.

Raymond Rasmusson is a music industry Entrepreneur.

In this episode I have a conversation years in the making with my long time internet friend Ray. We've had so many conversations over the many years of knowing each other, connected via the music industry.
From the entrepreneur spirit, to being the social media guys, and of course being the proverbial “band dads”, we’ve had had similar paths in some ways. What I didn’t know, was who was Ray before all of that? There was a part of his story I had never heard, so, we dive into it all here!

They cover both personal time as well as business time and balancing it all together, with the big talking point being that of, do you not HAVE the time, or are you just not choosing to MAKE the time for the things you want?

Luis Bazan is a Videographer & Content Creator.

In this episode, I sit down with fellow creator (and podcaster) Luis Bazan, in a conversation you would've assumed two friends had by now, as I finally actually get to know Luis. In his story, he shares his journey to becoming self-employed and the struggles of transitioning into that, as well as the personal brand building that comes with it. More importantly, he opens up into where his drive came from, growing up with a single Mother, in a large family, with not a lot of money, that pushed him to find that "never give up" attitude.

After randomly meeting and deciding to have a chat over Chipotle one time, I immediately found out that Sam was a fun dude to talk to, with a great outlook on so many things. From life itself, to the ups and downs of freelancing, to the music industry and the world touring, I knew he would make for a podcast-worthy conversation. What I didn't know was Sam's past struggles with balancing his mental health and we jump into all that here while uncovering his story.

Leah Ingram is a singer/songwriter based out of Columbus, OH.

In this one I sat down with my friend Leah Ingram and here’s a run-on sentence giving you a look into what all we talked about!:

We take a dive into her life as a musician, where she found her love for music and what made her heavily pursue it, the silly trivialities that can come with being a female in the music industry, signing to a label but finding out it’s not always what people say it is, dealing with the letdown of all of that, and much more. Lots of good stuff in this one about what it’s like behind the curtain in some aspects of the music industry, so music folk, this ones for you!

Nate Winkelmes is an Entrepreneur, Web Developer and musician in the band "The Fears".

This honestly is a great example of what this podcast is all about. We talk about it all in Nate's story. Being creative in general, how that lead to starting (and failing) at his own business, how he paid my personal bills for a year with that business having worked for him, later battling the same alcoholism that took his Father, and then finding music along with finding himself.

Josh is a Video Producer and Director of Photography, but there’s so much more behind that that we chat about here. Through Josh’s story, we dig into where his “never give up” attitude stems from, where his knack for working the best with structure and schedule comes from, and how that molded him into the creative, Father, and husband he is today, navigating the stressors of the Entrepreneur world. Hear how myself and Josh started working together, how we somehow near-perfectly balance out each other’s strengths and weaknesses in the creative world, the story of getting robbed $12,000 on a production, and even…Josh’s talent of arm wrestling?
