On July 16, Imani Roberson took her four children to her mother's home for dinner, according to her mother. She reportedly left there around 5:30 p.m. to go home with two of her children (two decided to stay with their grandmother). Her mother, Clarine Andujar-White, became concerned when she did not hear from her daughter. She said during today's press conference that Roberson loves her children very much, and it was very out of character for her to not check on the two children left with grandma. On July 17, she went to Roberson's home but no one was there. That's when she decided to file a missing person report. The sheriff's office said during the press conference that they began working the case immediately and have been devoted to trying to find Roberson. Roberson's car, which had been burned, was found on July 27 in a wooded area off Camp Creek Parkway near Union Road in Atlanta. Roberson's father shared images of the vehicle with FOX 5 Atlanta along with Ring camera video from a home across the street from Roberson's office that shows the vehicle pulling out of the driveway at a high rate of speed on the day she went missing. All of Roberson's children are safe, but the sheriff would not discuss their location or answer any questions about Roberson's husband. The sheriff says they are currently working with the South Fulton Police Department, FBI, Georgia State Patrol and GBI on the case. The sheriff also confirmed that they have contacted several companies with cadaver dogs to help them look for the missing mother. Anyone with information about Roberson is asked to contact investigators at 770-228-8170. Source: Fox 5

A Dallas, Texas man was arrested this week after his girlfriend allegedly told him to "smoke" a girl he used to "talk to," according to reports. FOX 4 in Dallas reported that officers with the Dallas Police Department responded to a shooting on South Malcolm X Boulevard at about 1 a.m. on May 20. Investigators learned Keerstin Cooper was shot after getting into an argument with Breaira Martin, who became upset because Cooper used to "talk to" her boyfriend Gabriel Leuyas. Martin, police said, called Leuyas over during the fight and reportedly told him to "smoke" Cooper. Leuyas then grabbed a semi-automatic handgun tucked in his waistband and shot Cooper two times through the windshield. After Cooper was shot, another woman quickly entered the vehicle and drove her to the hospital, where Cooper later died, police said. Police also said surveillance video captured in the area shows the incident, and with the use of gang records, social media and body cam footage, detectives were able to identify the suspects as Leuyas and Martin. Both suspects were charged with murder, while Leuyas also faces a single charge of unlawfully carrying a weapon. Martin was also charged with resisting arrest. Source: foxnews

A woman was found at a home after Kentucky State Police were called there around 4:15 p.m. The house was reportedly on fire. When they arrived, troopers found the woman's remains inside the home. The coroner said an autopsy had been performed, but they can’t release the details yet due to the ongoing criminal investigation. The police have not released any real statements to the public or to her family.
It is significant to note that the deceased woman inherited 250 acres of land. Her husband also has custody of her son, who is not his biological son, and he alleges that he adopted him 2 weeks ago. The husband, Edet Wettee, is a Liberian national.
This information was shared with me and I was asked to share this information in hopes of locating her son, the husband and potentially get this incident shared publicly since little media attention is being done regarding this homicide.

Another unsolved missing person case is one that has been frustrating for prosecutors because they “know” what happened, but cannot prove their suspicions. That is the disappearance of Jessica Raquel Guillot of Simmesport, who was last seen on Sept. 7, 2013. Five people have been tried for charges related to her abduction. District Attorney Charles Riddle said murder charges will be brought if a witness or evidence is found to support those charges. Unless or until that happens, prosecutors have to be content with the convictions secured in the kidnapping case. At the time of her disappearance, Jessica Guillot stood 5 feet 2 inches tall and weighed 125 to 135 pounds. She had black/dark brown hair and brown eyes. She had a scar on the left side of her face from the corner of her mouth towards her left cheek. Jessica had a tattoo on her left hand of the letters “HBC.” Her middle name is “Raquel.” Her dental and DNA records are on file. Anyone with information regarding this case is urged to contact the Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Office at (318) 253-4000 or their local authorities. The agency case number is 13-1014-01D.

Her mother discovered Slade’s body in abathroom shared by two apartments in the multi-family home in Far Rockaway, anaptly-named and far-flung beachside community near Brooklyn and the AtlanticOcean. It is considered the easternmost part of the Rockaway peninsula. Lewis“and others” had been inside the adjoining apartment – the one that used thesame bathroom – the night before the murder, according to the DA’s office. Thevictim and her alleged killer are not believed to have known one another beforethe murder. Cold for years, the case was recently reopened by the DA’s office and the NYPD. Last year, thejoint investigation requested the New York City Medical Examiner’s Office totest for DNA under the victim’s preserved fingernail clippings. That genetictesting was the break that had long eluded law enforcement.
According to Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz, the DNA test results linked Lewis tothe crime. Message from mother via GoFundMe:
My name is Tarsha Harris. I am the mother of 22-year-old Tyeasha Starks and grandmother of 1-year-old Tanceton Currie. On February 20th, my daughter, Tyeasha Starks, was shot and killed by Tanceton’s paternal grandfather while attempting to pick up Tanceton from his paternal grandparents’ home.
After being shot multiple times, Tyeasha attempted to drive away but drove off the road into a nearby neighbor’s yard. At the time, she also had two friends and an infant in the car with her.
Upon my arrival on the scene, I was given limited information in regards to what had occurred. About 30 minutes later, the medical examiner informed me that Tyeasha did not survive, and I was not given the courtesy of identifying my daughter’s body before being transferred to Nashville for an autopsy.
It saddens me that my grandson may have witnessed the killing of his mother, and I fear for Tanceton’s safety because the system failed to immediately remove him from an unstable environment during an active investigation of the shooter. I was told that Child Protective Services was called and would contact me the next day, but none of this ever happened. So I was forced to file a case myself with Child Protective Services.
This entire investigation has lacked thoroughness, transparency, and clear communication.

Family members and supporters of Nicole Bullock are grieving her death this week, as the 29-year-old leaves behind five children after a series of hardships through assault and abuse. Both Bullock's sister and attorney wanted to talk to WRAL News to highlight how serious domestic violence is, and how high the stakes are. Bullock was murdered Sunday at a Durham hotel room. Rodney Crawford, who court documents show had a history of abusing Bullock, was charged with homicide. One of Bullock's sisters Lakisha Polite said the system failed Nicole and failed her kids. Crawford got probation and no prison time from when he was found guilty of assaulting Bullock, while her child was with her, in May 2021. At the time of the murder, Bullock had an active restraining order against Crawford. Polite believes that if Crawford had gotten prison time, Nicole would still be alive today. Nicole was a hard working dedicated loving single mother of 5. Her life was tragically taken away due to domestic violence. Two days before her body was found burning in a Fresno alley, N-Kya Rebecca Logan was having a baby shower. The 26-year-old was about 36 weeks pregnant with a boy, whom she planned to name Noah. But authorities said, that future for mother and son was wiped out in a grisly killing at the hands of her brother. Aaron Jamal Dudley, 41, was arrested in connection with the killing, accused of stabbing Logan to death before taking her body to an alley and setting it on fire, Fresno Police Chief Paco Balderrama said at a news conference with Dist. Atty. Lisa Smittcamp and other officials.
“This is a person who had the wherewithal to try to clean up the evidence, try to dispose of the body, ran when police came to knock on the door to see what was going on,” Balderrama said. “This is not somebody who does not know what he’s doing.” Authorities said they believe Logan and her unborn child died of stab wounds, but released few other details. Asked what type of weapon was used, Balderrama said “an edged weapon such as a knife,” but he declined to specify. Smittcamp said her office intends to charge Dudley with two counts of murder with special circumstances, which could make him subject to the death penalty or life in prison without the possibility of parole. “A third-party killing of a fetus with [premeditation] is murder as long as it can be shown that the fetus had progressed beyond the embryonic stage,” she said. A fetus’ viability outside of the womb “is not an element of the crime in order to prove a fetal murder,” Smittcamp said.

November 4, 2022--Deputies received a call after 9 p.m. to respond to a residence. When they arrived, they found the victim dead.
Officials said the woman died from "blunt force trauma" and suffered injuries to her face.
Police quickly began searching for her ex-boyfriend Harold Dakers, who was the father of their son, and had been out on bond after being charged with rape and aggravated assault in connection with the victim.
Dackers was arrested and accused of sexually assaulting Lyons at his apartment. A neighbor said Dackers lived at the apartment with his mother.
On June 19, officers were notified of an incident. During the investigation, Detective Weingarten was able to determine that the victim had been choked to the point of unconsciousness while the suspect -- 34-year-old Dackers -- was demanding the passcodes for her phone. The suspect then forced himself on the victim before he allowed her to leave, authorities said.
Dakers was arrested and charged with rape and aggravated assault. He was later charged with false imprisonment and theft by taking. He was later released on bond.
The Coweta County District Attorney’s Office said their team opposed bond and argued against it. The DA's office said once they knew bond would be granted by the judge, they asked for Dackers to wear an ankle monitor. The judge did not require any electronic monitoring of Dackers. The District Attorney’s Office said Kaleshia Lyons wrote a letter that was presented by Dackers' defense team, stating she didn’t oppose the judge giving Dackers bond.
On November 8, police received a tip about Dakers entering a wooded area.
Police spotted Dakers in the woods but lost sight of him. They soon heard a gunshot and found Dakers lying in a creek with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

A suspect has been arrested for allegedly killing his girlfriend at their home near Spring Valley, where her 6-year-old son heard the gunshot and found her “face covered in blood” before walking to a neighbor’s house to report it, according to a Metro Police report. Ishmil Swafford, 43, was taken into custody Friday in the slaying of his girlfriend, Yetundi Yvonne Negrita Maples. Maples and Swafford lived together at the residence, according to his arrest report. Maples’ son told police he was in an upstairs bedroom when he heard the pair in conversation downstairs. A man is accused of murdering his ex-wife and her adult son over a dispute about the electric bill, and authorities believe it happened in front of the son’s own young children. Michael D. Williams, 47, allegedly claimed #MarshaEbanksWilliams, 48, and #RobertAdams, 28, attacked him and that he was acting in self defense. Authorities, however, said that any visible marks on his body did not match his account of being violently assaulted. The violent encounter stemmed from a fight over electricity usage at the former couple’s home in Volusia County, Florida. Authorities believe Adams’ children, ages 5 and 6, saw the incident happen. Details from a press statement, the press conference and a partially redacted charging affidavit detail what Henderson described as a “toxic” relationship.
Ebanks-Williams and Williams had been married for about 10 years, but they had divorced in June. According to authorities, the plan was for Ebanks-Williams to sell the house, and the former couple would split the money from the sale. Williams was allowed to stay in the home in the meantime, but deputies described the domestic situation as rocky: Henderson said law enforcement was called out to the residence on East Parkway in the city of DeLand five times just in 2022. There were fights and arguments, but nothing rose to the level of arrests, he said.

The Supreme Court of Ohio Thursday unanimously upheld the death sentence for Christopher Whitaker, the man convicted of killing 14-year-old Alianna DeFreeze in the winter of 2017. Writing for the Court, Justice Patrick F. Fischer graphically recounted Whitaker's rape, torture, and murder of the Cleveland teen, which Whitaker himself admitted to shortly after his arrest. The opinion found that while Whitaker does suffer from mental health problems, he was still in control of his actions at the time of his crimes. Whitaker's claims of "insufficient evidence" were also dismissed: "Whitaker presented substantial mitigating evidence that is entitled to considerable weight. That said, Whitaker raped and murdered 14-year-old [Alianna] in a vacant house. He then fled the scene and was arrested only after DNA evidence identified him as the perpetrator. Under these circumstances, we conclude that the aggravating circumstances outweigh the mitigating factors beyond a reasonable doubt." Source: wkyc

Raymond Lester, who is charged with murder in the death of his girlfriend Nicole Mokeme, is back in Maine and will have his first appearance in state court Wednesday. Lester, 35, arrived in Maine Tuesday night, according to the Maine State Police, and was transported to the Hancock County Jail. He will enter an initial plea before a Hancock County judge at 1 p.m., in Ellsworth.
The Maine Attorney General's Office charged Lester with murder late last month. State police allege that Lester struck and killed Mokeme with his BMW SUV during a retreat she had organized at Acadia National Park. An affidavit from state police remained sealed from the public on Wednesday, outlining what officers believe happened the night before Mokeme was found. But a federal affidavit from the U.S. Marshal Service details the case and cites numerous witnesses from the retreat who told police that Lester was drinking and driving erratically the night before Mokeme was found dead.
Federal court records also detailed Lester's flight from Maine, with law enforcement agencies in Rhode Island, Georgia and Texas tracking his car with license plate readers. On Tuesday, a U.S. District judge agreed to dismiss federal charges against Lester for fleeing the state to avoid prosecution. The U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Maine referred all questions to Maine State Police. State and federal law enforcement agencies spent nearly a month pursuing Lester before arresting him in Cancun, Mexico on July 18.

She died after she was shot in the head by the man, 44-year-old Michael Brantley.
Following the incident, Brantley shot himself in his car near the Syracuse Airport and later died at Upstate Hospital, Fitzpatrick says. The 18-year-old brother of the victim was also shot multiple times in his leg and stomach, according to police. They say he is expected to survive.
Michael Brantley had been searching for the victim, who had not shared her new address, for several days before he came to her apartment the mother of the victim, Mahogany Gaddis said.
Friends had warned the young woman that Brantley was knocking on doors and showing her photo to people in an attempt to locate her, Gaddis said.
Around 11:20 p.m., Brantley showed up at the apartment and killed his ex-girlfriend in front of at least one of her small children, according to Onondaga County District Attorney William Fitzpatrick. Shortly after the shooting, Brantley was found in his car near Syracuse Hancock International Airport with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Fitzpatrick said.
Brantley was the father of Smith’s two children who are 4 years old and 1 year old, Gaddis said.

Brantley would have been around 40 at the time, Gaddis said. Police still are unsure why the shooting occurred. According to authorities in Newton County, Bennett was arrested for making harassing phone calls and threatening to kill Washington in July of last year. A warrant for his arrest in November said he was texting and calling Washington repeatedly to terrorize her. Those threats became a reality on the night of Saturday, June 11 when he shot and killed Washington and shot her mother Peggy Burns in the head. Burns was airlifted to the hospital and at last check, listed in critical condition.
Deputies said those threats of violence extended to his own child, Jaquari Bennett, who he shot and killed before taking his own life on the grounds of Riverdale First UMC on Sunday morning. While a condition of Bennett’s bond required him to avoid contact with Washington, authorities in Newton County said they don’t believe Washington filed a temporary protective order, which would have put additional restrictions around contact in place. They said the investigation into the incident is ongoing and that they do believe this was a case of domestic violence.

Despite the heinous nature of the crimes he is accused of, 20-year-old Brynnen Murphy appeared calm and well-mannered at his first court hearing. Murphy is accused of shooting and killing his pregnant girlfriend, Kaylen Johnson, and dumping her body along Burbank Drive before throwing her two-year-old son, Kaden, off a 30-foot bridge into a dry riverbed in Central. According to police, the baby was alive and cried once he hit the ground.
"This is a first-degree murder case that has the potential to carry the death penalty, not that we've made any decisions at all at this point," District Attorney Hillar Moore said. Moore says the autopsies will determine how to proceed with the case. Though a motive has not yet been revealed, Moore offered this:
"People who are pregnant, ladies who are pregnant, are at a higher risk for homicide. It's one of the leading causes of death for women who are pregnant and this surely seems to bear that statistic out. It's really sad" Moore also said Murphy wasn't offered anything for his confession, and it won't have any bearing on how he tries the case.

Atlanta police are looking for the man who shot and killed a 31-year-old woman after what they say was a dispute over a bowling ball.
It happened at Metro Fun Center along Metropolitan Parkway in southwest Atlanta. Investigators tell CBS46 the woman, later identified as LaKevia Jackson, appeared to be attending a celebration at the bowling ally and that at some point in the evening she got into a fight that escalated into gunfire.
CBS46 spoke with Jackson’s mother who said LaKevia was attending her best friend’s birthday party and was apparently shot as she was leaving the bowling alley.
It has been confirmed that Jackson had a child with local Atlanta rapper, Young Thug, whose real name is Jeffrey Lamar Williams. Their son is 14 years old. Young Thug and Jackson met before he was famous at an apartment complex while she was attending South Atlanta High School and living with her mom.
Atlanta Police said during a press conference on Friday afternoon that they are talking to a woman about the shooting, but did not identify her as a suspect.
APD said they would not be releasing the identity or details about the suspected shooter, but believe they are close to an arrest based on ballistic and surveillance evidence, along with witness testimony, gathered from the scene.
This is a developing story.

The Bell County District Attorney’s Office filed capital murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charges against Kendrick Donnell Gaines, 39, the man accused of shooting and killing two girls, and wounding his wife, during a domestic disturbance in Killeen over the weekend.
Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke arraigned Gaines, a retired U.S. Army soldier, and set his bond at $2.5 million. The suspect is being held at the Bell County Jail.
An affidavit for arrest obtained by KWTX identified the woman as Danielle Gaines and the slain girls as Makayla R. Martin, 11, and Alyssa Whitfield, 6.
The 38-year-old Danielle Gaines was found suffering from a gunshot wound to the neck. The affidavit states Danielle told police officers her husband shot her and the girls during an argument. The woman said she ran to a neighbor’s house to call 911 for help. She was eventually transported by EMS to Baylor Scott & White in stable condition.
When police arrived at the scene, they spoke with a teenaged boy inside the home who said he was in a different room when he overheard an argument followed by the sound of gunfire. The boy said he walked out and noticed Kendrick Gaines holding a gun. The boy also ran to a neighbor’s house to call for help.
The affidavit further states a neighbor assisting the wounded woman also noticed Kendrick Gaines walking out of the home holding a gun. Police officers arriving at the scene located the suspect in the front yard of the home where the shooting occurred. The man’s weapon was “found on the ground nearby,” the document states.
A GoFundMe account has been set up to help the families of two girls who were allegedly shot and killed by Gaines. The account states Kendrick Gaines was Martin’s stepfather. That information has not been officially confirmed by police.

A Las Vegas Nevada man shot and killed his girlfriend outside of his northwest valley home while his other girlfriend and their two children were inside, according to an arrest report. Marvin Simmons, 31, is accused of killing Ketora Denise Feazell, 28, of Henderson on Monday, Mar. 7 as she attempted to drive away from his home.
According to the arrest report, Feazell had recently returned from a weekend with Simmons in Miami and went to his home, accompanied by her two sisters, to drop off a new pair of shoes for him. While she was outside the home, she received a text from Simmons telling her to leave because his girlfriend was at the home.
Feazell’s sisters told police that the garage door opened and Feazell approached it as Simmons confronted her, and the two began arguing which resulted in Simmons pushing Feazell. The report said the garage door began to close and Feazell started walking back to her car where her sisters were sitting. However, later he said that he did not observe Feazell to have any weapons and that she was small in stature, and he did not perceive her as a threat to him.

The family of a 29-year-old woman who was found dead in a home in southeast Kansas City last month has raised questions regarding the Kansas City Police Department’s investigation. Asia Maynard was reported dead Feb. 19. Officers with the Kansas City Department found the mother of four’s body at a home in the 8200 block of East 57th Street in Kansas City around 8 a.m. that day. Police have an open investigation into Maynard’s death, Sgt. Jake Becchina, a spokesman with the Kansas City Police Department, said in an email. There has not yet been a ruling on Maynard’s cause of death. Becchina said that usually takes weeks, sometimes months, and will be handled by the medical examiner’s office. Detectives conducted a preliminary investigation alongside medical examiners, Becchina said, and found no immediate signs of foul play.
Maynard’s family has demanded answers, saying that the information presented by Kansas City police does not add up. Family says Maynard went on a date on Friday, Feb. 18 and was never heard from again. Teara Maynard, her sister, called police to file a missing persons report on Feb. 20 and was later notified that she had been found dead. In the time since, Teara Maynard said the family has questioned the investigation led by KCPD. They believe the man she visited with, and whose home her body was discovered in, may have provided illegal drugs that led to her untimely death. As of now, the case is considered a death investigation and not a homicide. Law enforcement are asking for anyone with information to call the TIPS Hotline at (816)-474-8477.

Family and friends mourn the loss of a young single mother with a memorial outside of her East Harlem home Sunday afternoon. On February 16 another odd text was sent to Walcott's son telling the teenager that she was going away for business and that she was leaving Khalid Barrow in charge. But Johnson said Walcott would have never left her son.
Police have since arrested Barrow as a suspect in her murder, after a video from February 18 allegedly shows Barrow dragging a plastic bin to the roof of the building. Khalid was arraigned Sunday morning on charges including second-degree murder and three counts of concealment of a human corpse.

Patrick was 4 months pregnant with her second child when police said two gunmen got out of their car Wednesday evening and opened fire around in the 7400-block of South Vincennes Avenue. Authorities in Milwaukee say a Burger King employee fired a gun during an attempted armed robbery, but that it’s not yet clear who fired the shots that killed a 16-year-old cashier. Police are still investigating whether the robbery suspect also fired a weapon and did not say the co-worker’s gunshots killed Niesha Harris-Brazell. However, prosecutors have charged the co-worker with possessing a gun as a felon. According to a criminal complaint, the 34-year-old male employee could be seen on surveillance video firing his weapon at the robbery suspect who had leaned into the drive-thru window holding a gun. Police say the robbery suspect has not been located. The shooting happened about 10 p.m. Sunday on the city’s west side.
The attempted robber, a Milwaukee Police statement indicates, is a Black male with a heavy build. “He was last seen wearing a red hooded sweatshirt, tan pants and was armed with a handgun," reads the statement. "The suspect vehicle is described as black 4-door Chevy Impala with a sunroof and spoiler on the back." Anyone with information is asked to contact Milwaukee Police at 414-935-7360 or Crime Stoppers at 414-224-Tips, or use the P3 Tips App to remain anonymous.

Lauren Smith-Fields was found unresponsive inside her Plymouth Street apartment on Dec. 12 and later died. The medical examiner has not released the cause of death, and investigators are not commenting. Family says Smith-Fields met an "older white man" on Bumble and it was he who alerted police to her death. Lakeem, her brother, says he asked authorities about the man but was told he was a nice guy with no need to be investigated. Smith-Fields father says the only contact they've had with police is with a "very insensitive, condescending and arrogant detective."
The City of Bridgeport issued a statement about the investigation saying, "The Bridgeport Police Department takes these concerns very seriously. The Command Staff of the Detective Bureau is reviewing the handling of this case to ensure that best practices were and are being followed. It is imperative to note that the death of Lauren Smith-Fields remains an ongoing investigation. Our department extends its deepest condolences to the family of Lauren."

A Chicago police officer was denied bail Saturday, charged with murder in the shooting death of the 29-year-old mother of his 9-month-old after they argued about another woman, prosecutors said. Pierre Tyler, 29, appeared before Judge Charles Beach during a hearing that was audio-streamed live on YouTube Saturday afternoon.

Records recently obtained by WGN Investigates shed new light on the final hours in the life of Treasure Hendrix — a woman who was found dead of a drug overdose last August inside an RV owned by a Chicago Police officer.
The records, obtained from the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office via the Freedom of Information Act, also raise new questions about the relationship between the officer and Hendrix, who had a felony conviction for aggravated battery. The CPD’s personnel rules forbid officers from associating with persons convicted of crimes.
Hendrix, 35, was found dead on Aug. 19. Her family has said that, while she did drink, Hendrix did not use drugs. They’ve also called on the FBI to investigate her death. WGN is not naming the officer, as he has not been charged with any crimes. Attempts to reach him for comment were not successful.
The CPD, meanwhile, is continuing to investigate the officer even though he quit the CPD a week after Hendrix was found dead.
The officer resigned from the CPD on Aug. 26 — seven days after Hendrix, 35, was found dead in the officer’s RV that was parked in a lot at 15th and Western, according to records from the CPD and Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.
An autopsy found that Hendrix died of a drug overdose involving alcohol, cocaine, fentanyl, meth and ecstasy. The medical examiner’s office ruled her death an accident.
A spokesman for the Civilian Office of Police Accountability said investigators initially responded to the case, but later referred it to the CPD’s Bureau of Internal Affairs. A CPD spokesman on Thursday said both the department’s internal investigation and the investigation into Hendrix’s death remained open and active.

Investigators have arrested a second man in connection with last week's shooting death of a 40-year-old woman who was killed in the driveway of her east side home shortly after dropping off her children at school. Monday's arrest was announced hours after a Wayne County judge increased the bond of David Hammond, 45, who is accused of assaulting his ex-girlfriend Andrea Tucker and firebombing her house in 2019. Hammond, who had been free on his own recognizance prior to Friday, had his bond upped to $300,000.
Hammond last week was named as a person of interest in Tucker's Nov. 17 shooting death. During a Monday press conference, Detroit Police Chief James White said the second suspect is related to Hammond. "We're confident we have the two men (responsible for Tucker's killing) in custody," White said. "We've got a lot to do before we submit this warrant." White added: "One person who we know was on the scene was lying in wait for our victim. We know who pulled the trigger."
Hammond's lawyer told The Detroit News last week that his client couldn't have committed the killing because he appeared via Zoom for a court hearing in the assault and arson case during the time police said Tucker was killed.

Police have identified the suspected gunman in the fatal shooting of a pregnant woman killed while walking home from her own baby shower in Harlem early Sunday. Shanice Young, 31, was just weeks away from giving birth when she was shot in the head in front of her building on West 128th Street and Frederick Douglass Boulevard. It also happened right in front of her daughter. "A pregnant woman, coming home from her baby shower, who was shot and killed. In cold blood. By someone that she knew," NYPD Officer Amir Yakatally said.
The NYPD on Tuesday said they are searching for 40-year-old Justin Soriano, who is believed to have fired the fatal shot, and they're hoping an image of him will lead to an arrest. "He is someone who had a firearm and felt comfortable using it," Yakatally said. Yakatally is the commanding officer of the 32nd Precinct in Harlem and says that is the common thread linking his precinct's alarming rise in violent crime. Police say Soriano is the victim's ex-boyfriend.

A 23-year-old New Jersey man was charged last week with the murders of his infant daughter and her maternal grandparents. In a statement, the Mercer County Prosecutor's Office alleges that early last Friday morning, Michael Sanders set a home in Hamilton Township on fire. Flames engulfed the duplex within minutes, causing a partial roof collapse. Killed in the fire was 9-month-old Malani Sanders, according to the statement. The baby's grandmother, 42-year-old Tiffany Abrams-Jones, was also pronounced dead at the scene. Her husband, 50-year-old Prince Jones, was rushed to a nearby hospital. On Sunday, Jones died from injuries sustained in the fire.
Two other individuals residing in the home, including Malani's mother, are receiving treatment for critical injuries they suffered. Sanders was arrested Monday. He is charged with three counts each of murder, felony murder and aggravated assault, two counts of aggravated arson and one count of causing widespread injury or damage. Sanders has not yet entered pleas to those charges, and it was unclear if he has retained a lawyer who could speak on his behalf.
The statement says investigators discovered surveillance video allegedly showing the suspect at a gas station shortly before the start of the fire. Neighborhood security cameras also filmed him heading towards the home and then going away from it. Before the fire was started, Sanders allegedly texted the baby's mother, telling her to get the infant out of the house. A motive has not been disclosed publicly. A GoFundMe campaign is seeking donations to pay for the three funerals.

A woman was shot and killed by a police officer Saturday afternoon during a Juneteenth parade in Flint after police said she pulled up and started shooting a police officer. Michigan State Police are investigating the tragic shooting and said the car pulled up to a Flint Police Officer working the Juneteenth parade route north of downtown Flint. It was around 2 p.m. when the 19-year-old Flint woman pulled up in her car and start firing at the officer. The officer fired back and hit the woman. She was taken to a Flint hospital where she was later pronounced dead.
On Monday, Michigan State Police identified her as 19-year-old Brianna Sykes, from Flint. An anonymous witness told ABC12 in Flint that he saw what happened and watched the officer break down after the shooting. "I saw an officer maybe ten feet to the left of me in front of a car with his gun out. I didn’t see if anybody shot out of the car but I did see the officer shoot into the car and I could tell that he, from his look, like he mortally wounded somebody. He instantly fell to the ground crying because I felt like he didn’t want to do whatever he had to do," ABC12 reported.
Video obtained by FOX 2 shows a silver car next to an officer, who has his gun out and pointed at the car. There is no audio but the officer can be seen talking and giving orders to the driver while keeping his weapon aimed at the car. The video then shows the officer firing at least two shots into the car, which then rolls away. The witness who shot the video then pans back where the officer is on his knees and being consoled by another officer. Police are still investigating what led to the shooting. Nobody else was in the car and nobody else was injured.

Saniyya Dennis, the New York college student who disappeared last month, died by apparent suicide, officials said Thursday. "It appears that this poor girl took her own life," Erie County District Attorney John Flynn told reporters during a morning news conference. While authorities have not located the 19-year-old's body, they were able to reach that conclusion based on a timeline of her last hours.
Flynn said on the afternoon of April 24, Dennis got into an argument with her boyfriend in New York City over the phone. After trying to contact him 59 times to no avail, she called another male friend in New York City and talked about killing herself, the DA said. However, the family demanded a federal investigation by the Department of Justice Civil Rights Division.
“Given these variables and the fact that Saniyya’s body has not been discovered, we express great concerns about the handling of this case and the suicide narrative. Mr. Flynn purposefully placed Saniyya in a negative light as though she was a depraved stalker who harassed her boyfriend for attention,” the family statement said. “These dismissive acts caused victim blaming and shaming. It is unconscionable that he presented a speculative narrative as a factual one by calling a national press conference and falsely asserting he shared his findings with the family.”

The bodies of two Florida teenagers were misidentified after they were killed in a car crash near Pensacola July 2019. The mistake wasn't caught until just before a wake, and not until after organs had been taken from the wrong body.
Now the families of 15-year-old Samara Cooks and 18-year-old Deleigha Gibson are suing Florida Highway Patrol, the county medical examiner's office and two funeral homes.
Deleigha's parents, Tammy and Demetrius Gibson, claim the director at another funeral home tried to switch the bodies back without their knowing.
The Florida Highway Patrol said a further review of the case is ongoing to verify additional information. The medical examiner's office told CBS News, "Our sympathies and support remain with the families." The funeral homes did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

In the statement, the family said it was "devastated" after learning that Smith's body was found in a suitcase Feb. 8. The 28-year-old was six months pregnant and expecting a baby boy, according to warrants.
"Our beautiful daughter, mother, granddaughter, sister, niece, cousin, and friend was snatched away from our lives and the lives of her innocent children," the Smith family wrote Thursday. "She is no longer with us to laugh, cry, dance, change, and become a woman of her full potential. Her baby did not get the opportunity to grow, love, play, and get to know his brothers."
Smith's family had told authorities they last saw her alive on Feb. 4 in Wendell. The family said Thursday that it had to begin its own investigation because it felt its "concerns were not being heard" by authorities.
Two people were arrested Wednesday evening and charged with Smith's murder and that of her unborn child. The family did express gratitude for the sheriff office's work after the body was discovered that led to the arrests. "We want all parties involved in this crime to be found and prosecuted," the family wrote. "From accomplice to conspirator to murder, we want complete justice.
The two suspects, Thomas Johnson and Emmalei Trevathan, were formally charged in court Thursday. Authorities accused them of strangling Smith before stuffing her body in a purple suitcase and tossing it in the Neuse River. A judge ordered they be held in jail without bond. No plea has been entered.

Aziza Murphy is a 28-year-old mother from Baltimore who just lost her job while fighting for her safety against her ex-boyfriend, who she says has been stalking her for nearly two months. After repeated threats and harassment of her and her family members, she has pleaded multiple times for Baltimore police to make an arrest, but the way the system works, she says, it is not set up to protect women–especially women of color.
Since he hasn’t necessarily been violent with her, she says police can really only take action if he’s caught in the act, but Aziza has evidence and recordings of him threatening her and even then, she says it’s not enough. She’s taken to social media to tell her story for fear that she’ll end up dead if something isn’t done.

It was on March 6, 2018, when a puzzling discovery was made on the side of the road. Jasmine Dunbar’s car was located with her seven-month-old daughter inside, sitting in her car seat, along with the missing woman’s personal belongings. Jasmine, however, was nowhere to be found. She was immediately reported missing and 24-hours later, her body was found. The Miami Herald reports that the missing mother’s remains were “significantly burned.”
Investigators learned that the last person Jasmine saw before her death was her 20-year-old ex-boyfriend, Antwaun Travon Ware. It didn’t take long for Ware to confess that on Tuesday, he and Jasmine agreed to meet up for a paternity test. Initially, he told police that he picked up Jasmine and the baby but after he and Jasmine got into an argument, he took them home. Later, AZ Central reports Ware admitted to punching “[Jasmine] multiple times with his fist” and leaving her in an empty Phoenix, Arizona field.
Then, Ware said Jasmine was beaten, but still alive when he just walked away from the scene. However, when he returned to check on her, she was dead. He decided to “put a piece of paper on her” before dousing her with gasoline. He lit her on fire with a cigarette. Ware told investigators that he stayed and watched as her body burned until the flames went out on their own. The police report states that Ware “panicked” and decided to take the seven-month-old to drop her off on the side of the road because “he saw people nearby and believed they would find her and take care of her.”
