The conversation explores the importance of systems and processes in businesses, with a focus on the book 'Systemology' by David Jenyns. The main themes include the definition of systems and processes, the ideal businesses for systemization, the role of systems in reducing dependency on individuals, and the starting point for systemization in a business. The conversation also touches on the balance between systemization and creativity, the value of capturing tasks and processes, and the role of a systems champion in larger organizations. In this conversation, Mike Scott and David Jenyns discuss the importance of having a single point of accountability for systemization in a business. They emphasize the need for someone who has the most knowledge about a particular system to be responsible for documenting it. They also discuss the challenge of getting people to follow systems and offer strategies for overcoming resistance. David explains that Systemology is different from other process improvement methodologies because it focuses on capturing and making processes repeatable, rather than improving them. He encourages business owners to fall in love with the results that systems and processes bring to the organization.

In this conversation, Mike interviews Chris Wheldon, an investor and entrepreneur, about the importance of understanding and analyzing numbers in small and mid-sized businesses.
Chris shares his experience in acquiring and investing in businesses and highlights the key metrics he looks at, including cash flow, profit, margin, cost structure, and return on capital. He emphasizes the need for business owners to have a strong grasp of their numbers to make informed decisions and ensure the sustainability of their businesses.
The conversation also touches on the value of data transparency and the benefits it brings during the acquisition process. Understanding and analyzing financial metrics is crucial for business owners and managers. It is important to measure the inputs that contribute to revenue and profit on a weekly basis, such as sales, marketing, and customer retention metrics. Monthly measurements should focus on understanding sales trends, cost structures, and budgeting for future expenses. Quarterly analysis should provide a full picture of financial performance, including working capital changes and cash flow generation. Annual reviews allow for a deeper understanding of the balance sheet and the true financial profile of the business.
The key takeaway is that while the numbers are important, they are a reflection of the decisions and actions taken by the business in serving its customers and stakeholders.

In this episode, Mike discusses the importance of creating a company scoreboard or scorecard to increase accountability, improve data quality, and drive results.
He emphasises the need for a clear artifact that defines what winning looks like and what needs to be done to achieve it. Mike explains the difference between leading indicators and lagging indicators and focuses on the former for the scorecard. He provides examples of leading indicators such as revenue, profit, LinkedIn posts, podcast episodes recorded, in-person meetings with leads, new referrals, cash runway, and employee and client satisfaction scores. Mike outlines the process of creating and using the scorecard, including assigning accountability, setting targets, and conducting weekly scorecard reviews.
Takeaways
Creating a company scoreboard or scorecard helps increase accountability and drive results.
The scorecard should focus on leading indicators, which are metrics that can be influenced and impact future results.
Examples of leading indicators include revenue, profit, LinkedIn posts, podcast episodes, in-person meetings, new referrals, cash runway, and employee and client satisfaction scores.
The scorecard should have a small set of metrics, ideally between 5 to 15, that are critical to the business.
The scorecard should be reviewed weekly in a leadership team meeting, with a focus on accountability and action plans to address any metrics that are off track.

Building a business is hard.
Maintaining healthy relationships with those that you care about is hard.
Staying fit and healthy in your body, your mind and your emotions is hard.
This podcast is about finding and sharing tools, strategies and experiences that may help you to achieve and maintain moderate success in your life, whatever that means to you.
There is a ton of content created by the billionaires, the ultra successful athletes, and by people that are at a level that the vast majority of us will just never get to. And if you're anything like me, you're totally okay with that.
This is a place where we talk about how to build a great business, but not necessarily a massive one. A place to talk about how we build a life that is balanced and integrated, but not necessarily optimised to levels that are not realistic for most of us.
In short, it's a place where we explore how to be moderately successful.
The work will always remain yours, and for the most part, it's simple, but not easy.
I sincerely hope it's valuable to you.

This is not the place where you'll hear about how to build a billion-dollar business, win an ironman event, or find spiritual enlightenment. What I can share is my experience around how to build, lead and exit a business of maybe a few million dollars, how to place in the top 10 in a mountain bike stage race or how to implement systems to continually work and improve on your mental and physical health. In short…I might be able to offer a little help on how to be moderately successful. To be really clear, nothing that I share is financial advice or advice of any kind for that matter but rather my own experience shared. It’s critical that you do your own research on anything that I share in this podcast and that you take responsibility for your own decisions.I want to challenge you to be more than just a passenger. If you hear anything in any of the episodes that resonate with you and that you want to implement in your own life, take action by teaching that thing to someone within the next 24 hours and then ask them to hold you accountable for doing the thing that you said you were going to do. Teaching is often the best way to learn and accountability is usually the thing between talk and meaningful, consistent action.
I hope you find some value...

Welcome to The Fintech Founder Journey, where we explore great FinTech products, businesses and leaders.
I’m your host, Mike Scott, Co-founder and CEO of Nona Digital. Nona Digital is an expert firm that accelerates product development for FinTech & Blockchain scaleups.
In today's show, I’m joined by Jason Atkins from Cake and we’ll be exploring his journey and insights from building a great business that makes equity simple for startups everywhere.

Working with us to accelerate your FinTech product means you get access to our expert product squads that cover development, UI and UX, product ownership and architecture, and that have been building products together for a very long time.
You get the benefit of a 40 person studio that is big enough for no key person dependencies to exist but small enough so that you are always close to one of the principals. And, you get the benefit of our reusable component library which means we are often able to build your product faster than anyone else could at a comparable standard.
As one of our clients said, “Nona is the type of business that paints the back of the wardrobe…because if you want to be the best, that's the sort of thing that you do”.

Jason Atkins is trained as an accountant and has got a strong background in finance across companies like Mastercard, the Awesome Group, Zupp property, and Enhanced Society.
Today his main focus is as the Co-Founder of Cake where he is leading a strong team to make equity easier to use. This is a topic that is typically complex and difficult to get right and these guys are really making a difference to founders to help them raise money the right way, give shares to their team and do it in a compliant and centralized way.
Jason is a pretty generous mentor, giving his time to River City Labs and more recently to Startmate.
Cake has got a growing team of 20, they are the market leader in Australia and they are embarking on a very aggressive growth path.
Jason is leading a business worth keeping an eye on and what's more, is he is just a really nice guy. Welcome, Jason, great to have you on the show.

In today's show, I’m joined again by Ran Neuner from Crypto Banter and we are going to be talking about crypto and Web3 in the context of 2022.

I’m joined again today by Ran Neuner, host of Crypto Banter and one of the biggest crypto YouTube channels. They have grown to just under 540k subscribers.
He is essentially becoming the Blomberg of crypto. One of the main differences with Ran, and the reason I follow his content, is that he was a massively successful entrepreneur before he even got into the crypto space. He built and sold The Creative Council which ended up being the largest deal of its time in Africa. Ran is also a CA and a very smart guy.
Today’s show is not going to be so much about a founder's journey, but more about what we might expect to see in the Web3 space for the year ahead and how it relates to Fintech.
We will try to keep the jargon to a minimum, but if you hear terms that you don't recognise, google them and you’ll likely go down a rabbit hole that will be, at a minimum pretty interesting.
Before I welcome Ran, I want to be clear that nothing on this show is financial advice. Neither myself nor Ran are financial advisors and it needs to be said that this space is very very risky.
Welcome back, Ran. Thanks for making the time.

My guest today is Matt Baxby who has got a massive amount of experience in the world of finance.
Matt started his career as a solicitor in Australia. After two years he moved to London to take up a role with Virgin as an Investment Manager after which he became the Investment Director.
His next role was Commercial and Strategy Director at Virgin Money which later developed into Managing Director at Virgin Money Australia.
In 2012 Matt moved over to the Bank of Queensland as their CFO. Today, Matt is the CEO of Revolut Australia.
It's unlikely that Revolut needs much of an introduction. In case you are not familiar, Revolut is one of the most successful Fintechs on the planet, building a global financial super app. They have over 15 million customers and process more than 100 million transactions per month. They aim to help their customers improve their financial health, give them more control, and connect them seamlessly across the world.
As if Matt is not doing enough, he also has four kids. Matt and I share a passion for cycling, and I have no doubt that we will have a great conversation.
Welcome to the show, Matt.

Today I am joined by Stephen Young who is building something very interesting, and in a space that is now gaining a lot of attention - the NFT space.
Stephen spent a lot of his earlier career with Allan Gray, a massive traditional financial services company in South Africa, where he held multiple roles across technology and digital marketing.
He spent some time with 22seven which was one of the first companies that I saw use banking feeds to help people manage their finances better and this was way before open banking.
He helped Coindirect in their earlier days as Chief Product Officer and it is safe to say that he has been around Web3 for a decent amount of time now which has led him to his current focus as the founder and CEO of NFTfi.
NFTfi is a simple marketplace for NFT collateralized loans which means that they allow you to put up your NFT assets as collateral for a loan or to offer loans to other people on their NFTs.
Welcome Stephen, it is great to have you on the show.

In today's show, I’m joined by David Wolfenden. We’ll be talking about how, at 21 years old, he is already on his third startup as well as the gamification of money.

David Wolfenden is a very impressive 21-year-old dude. He has already amassed some significant life and business experience that has led him to his current focus as the Founder and CEO of Eden.
Eden is a seed-stage Fintech startup based in the US whose mission is to leverage modern-day society's consumer mindset for its own financial good. They are working on building a visual savings account where one's balance is represented by a dynamic digital world rather than just numbers.
I really enjoyed my encounter with David and while he is at a much earlier stage than most of the guests that come on the show, I think that he is someone worth keeping an eye on…
Welcome David, thanks for making the time.

Nirit Rubenstein's career has been diverse and vast but I'll highlight some things that stood out for me.
Way back in 1995 she was an Airforce Instructor in Israel. She spent 5 years with Salesforce across financial analyst and marketing strategy roles. As CEO of Credly between 2014 and 2018, she led the second-largest credit repair company in the US following its acquisition by Tregaron Capital.
Nirit serves on the advisory board of the Arizona Isreal Technology Alliance, she received a BA in business and economics and an MBA, graduating Cum Laude.
All of this led to her current focus which is as the CEO and co-founder of Dovly. Dovly is a fully automated credit improvement platform based on sophisticated algorithms that are proven to impact credit scores. They are around 20 people today and growing, they have raised just under $6m in seed funding to date.

In today's show, I’m joined by Michael Young from Photon Commerce and we will be talking about his journey building an AI-powered platform for Fintechs, invoices, and payments.
__________________________________
Michael's early career was as an engineer at IBM after which he took a role as a researcher at Wharton where he worked on a bunch of things that I can barely even pronounce like being the co-inventor of the optical memristor.
After that, he took a role as VP of Strategy and Marketing for a tech and education company. At around the same time, he co-founded Innova Dynamics which was eventually acquired by TPK in 2015. As this was going, he co-founded another business, IonArmour where he led the product, tech, and business development.
In 2016 he co-founded an eye care company, Smart Focus which was a spin-out of Stanford and was featured in publications like the Economist and Wired.
Michael is an advisor to CareNX which is a life-saving technology that has been recognized by Queen Elizabeth II and the Indian Prime Minister.
In 2019 he was selected as one of the 100 entrepreneurs from around the world to join the prestigious One Deck program in San Francisco where he remains a Fellow today.
All of this led him to his current focus which is the sole founder and CEO of Photon Commerce. Photon is an AI platform for fintechs that reduces payment costs by up to 33% while accelerating customer acquisition.
It is used by over 120 fintechs and has processed over $11bn to date. Photon has an engineering heavy team of 25 and is growing fast. They have raised multiple rounds of undisclosed amounts and they already have significant recurring revenues.
Michael is razor-sharp, incredibly focused, and seems to know what it takes to build a successful business - I’m looking forward to this discussion.

For those you listening that might not know Marqeta, they are a massively successful Fintech company that focuses on the modern card issuing platforms and infrastructure to help companies build and manage payment programs.
Duncan has also got some entrepreneurial DNA in him as he has founded and run a good few businesses too, some unrelated to Fintech.
Duncan is seriously experienced in financial services and Fintech and more importantly, a really nice guy.

Welcome to The Fintech Founder Journey, where we explore FinTech and the founders that power it.
I’m your host Mike Scott and I'm also the Co-Founder and CEO of Nona Digital, an expert firm that accelerates product development for FinTech & Blockchain scaleups.
In today's show I’m joined by Trent Bigelow, co-founder and CEO of Abound. We’ll be talking about his journey building a startup that aims to make independent workers more financially secure.
__________________________________
Trent is an impressive founder that is set on solving a real problem and one that he himself experienced.
He showed promise early on when he was an intern at HP. He proposed, organized, and led the HP Student Innovation Center - while he was still in high school.
He then went on to found his first startup which was the world's first online multi-account email client… although they started out thinking that they would be competing with Facebook and MySpace to build a better social network.
Trent then became the Business Development Director at Chiral Software. He also worked as a freelance UX researcher and then did some time as an Entrepreneur in Residence at Venrock.
This all led up to his current focus which is as the co-founder and CEO of Abound. Since 2017, Trent has led the team to help build the world that independent workers want to work in. They are doing this through a set of API’s that make it easy to embed benefits for independent workers in an easy and compliant way.
The Abound team is around 20 strong and growing. They have raised just under $7m in seed rounds, and are definitely a company to watch.

In today's show I'm joined by Elliott Donazzan, co-founder at Payble.
Elliott is building an interesting FinTech in the payments space. We’ll be talking about the billions of dollars that late payments are costing Australian businesses every year and his journey so far in trying to solve this.
Elliott started his career at PWC and has gone on to found two startups one in the travel space and the other in the media space.
He then went on to become Strategy Director for the Zoo Group and then moved on to an Investment Manager position at Glenburn Private Capital.
After that Elliott joined Identitii Ltd, an ASX listed company, where he became the Director of Innovation and that was his last role before co-founding Payble which is his full focus today.
Payble is a FinTech that offers a better way to get paid, improve cash flow collection, lower transaction costs and make failed or late payments a thing of the past.
Payable raised $1m earlier this year from CBA’s x15 ventures which is a great vote of confidence for the young startup.

In today's show I'm joined by Tauriq Keraan, CEO of TymeBank. We’ll be discussing his own journey (which is an inspirational one) as well as learning more about how TymeBank has seen such massive success and where it’s headed under his leadership.
To give you some context about TymeBank's success - TymeBank has acquired nearly 3 million customers in just over 2 years, and is adding between 3000 and 5000 customers every day.
Tauriq Keraan (TK) is a very impressive human. After completing school TK went on to complete a BSC in Chemistry and an MSC in Materials Engineering.
He worked as the Technology Transfer Manager at the Tshwane University of Technology in the early days of his career. He then went on to hold various roles across various industries including a role as the Executive Lead of Strategy & Innovation at Deloitte.
In 2013 TK joined TymeBank and has held a range of leadership roles. In 2019 he was appointed as the CEO and that remains his focus today.
Tauriq is a rare leader and someone that I find deeply inspirational and humble. I actually met Tauriq through him reaching out to me on LinkedIn off the back of a post that I shared. We got on a call and I was blown away by his humility, openness to learning from anyone and general approach to life and business.

Welcome to the ‘How to be Moderately Successful’ podcast. I’m your host Mike Scott, and also the Co-Founder and CEO of Nona Digital.
In this podcast we explore FinTech and the founders that power it. We look at how to build better FinTech products, better FinTech businesses and how to work on yourself to be more successful.
Before I even begin I need to stipulate that nothing in this podcast constitutes financial advice and any investment decisions that you might make are your own and you should do your own research.
A quick note: we are going to be rebranding the show soon to ‘The FinTech Founder Journey’ so just a heads up on that when you see your feed changing.
Today I’m joined by Ran Neuner or as his 263k twitter followers and 326k YouTube subscribers know him, CryptomanRan. We’ll be discussing his journey from building and selling the largest sales and marketing agency in South Africa to becoming a global crypto influencer.
Ran is a seriously impressive operator. He co-founded and built The Creative Counsel Group which was the largest sales and marketing agency in South Africa. The group was acquired by the Publicis Groupe in 2015, a deal that was at the time the largest acquisition transaction in Africa.
In 2017 he launched the Crypto Trader which was the world's first televised cryptocurrency show featured on CNBC and now runs the YouTube channel Crypto Banter which is absolutely blowing up.
He has been considered one of the 10 most influential people in blockchain and for good reason. In my mind Ran is one of the people that is doing real work to legitimise the space which is so necessary.
Ran holds a degree in Finance as well as a CFA qualification, is razor sharp and brings an energy that is seemingly limitless.

Today I’m joined by Jeff Yew, ex CEO of Binance Australia and we’ll be talking about digital asset investment.
Jeff Yew is best known for his work as Binance Australia CEO where he launched and led the team to become Australia's largest and most liquid digital asset exchange in just 3 months! In less than a year Binance Australia amassed over 250k verified users with trade volumes of over $3bn.
Jeff has now moved on and has recently founded Monochrome Asset Management where he leads a team with over 70 years of combined experience in traditional markets and funds management and digital assets trading.
The Monochrome BitCoin Fund is aimed at investors seeking a familiar investment vehicle that tracks the price of Bitcoin.

Welcome to the ‘How to be Moderately Successful’ podcast. I’m your host Mike Scott, Co-Founder and CEO of Nona Digital.
Today my guest is Sean Sanders from Revix.
Sean’s passion for Finance began with a degree in Finance and Economics and he then went on to do his CFA qualification.
Sean who is not even 30 years old yet started his career with a few internships, one of which was with Merrill Lynch. He then founded his first of many businesses in 2012.
Sean went through a number of finance focused positions ranging from equity trading to portfolio management and then eventually to VC analyst with Knife Capital who I happen to know very well. It was at Knife Capital that Sean had his aha moment that led him to co-founding Revix in 2018 where he is now the CEO.
Revix is a platform that provides hassle-free, diversified cryptocurrency investing.
Sean has led Revix to a team of 25, MRR of around $140k with the last few months seeing 50% month on month growth. They have raised $4.1m from a range of investors and they’re sure to be a FinTech company to keep an eye on.
Sean is super smart and in my conversations leading up to this I was impressed by his passion and commitment to FinTech and I'm sure we’ll get great value from today's conversation.

Welcome to the ‘How to be Moderately Successful’ podcast. I’m your host Mike Scott, co-founder & CEO of Nona Digital.
Today I’m talking to Benji Meltzer from Aerobotics who is not a typical guest in that he is not in FinTech, but I still believe that we will get value from today's discussion.
Benji studied a business science degree with first-class honours in Mechatronics engineering before attending The Imperial College of London where he studied an MSc in Biomedical Engineering with a specialization in neurotechnology and graduated with distinction.
Benji then went on to work as a business analyst building software models to evaluate strategic decisions, mainly in the mining industry before moving on to become the operations and logistics manager for Uber South Africa.
Benji is now solely focused on Aerobotics where he is the co-founder and CTO. Aerobotics is focused on developing Artificial intelligence systems for unmanned aerial vehicles specifically focussing on the agriculture industry. It has raised around $27m to date, has customers in 20 countries, and is sitting on around 120m trees analyzed. They are a rapidly growing African scale up playing on a global stage and a really impressive business.
At only 31 years old, Benji is a super impressive guy. Welcome Benji. It's great to have to you on the show.

Today my guest is Jins Kadwood who brings with him a really interesting set of skills and experience around building and scaling high-performance teams which originated from an interesting source which we will get into later.
Jins has had a wide range of experience in the tech scene ranging from founder to CTO to CPO to COO and everything in between.
His current focus is as CTO at Agridigital whose focus is to make grain supply chains easy. Agridigital has already processed over $5bn worth of transactions, given out $50m worth of loans to farmers, and has 15000 active users.
Jins has a bachelor's in software engineering and a master's in computer science and won the CIO/CTO of the year award in 2018 from FinTech Australia.

Today I’ve got Ned Phillips joining me who is one impressive guy.
Ned has been around FinTech since before it was called Fintech. Back in the late 90’s ned was one of the first brokers at E-Trade and went on to become the managing director of the company.
He was also part of the stock exchange transformation where he developed two pan-Asian exchanges.
Ned experienced the dot-com boom with one of the original Fintech companies and consulted 8 securities when they launched the first Robo Advisor in Asia.
This all led up to Ned’s current focus which is as the Founder and CEO of Bambu.
Bambu is a global leader in the robo-advisory space working with some of the biggest names in FinTech and banking.
Launched in 2016 they are a growing team of 80 people who have raised around $15m and are about to raise another $25m.
They have also won a slew of Fintech and Startup awards including one particular award that we will speak about later in the show.
They aim to be profitable in the next 6-12 months and have their sights set on becoming the global leaders in the space.
Ned is also an impressive athlete choosing to put himself through some grueling ultra-endurance races which we’ll get into a little later.
Welcome Ned, it’s great to have you on the show and I’m looking forward to the conversation.
Thanks for listening!

Today my guest is Riccardo Spagni who is also and possibly even better known as Fluffy Pony.
Ric is I think most widely known through his role as the lead maintainer of Monero, a privacy-centric cryptocurrency project that aims to obfuscate the linkability of transactions across source, quantity, and destination. But his career spans a lot further than just Monero.
In 2016 he launched Globee, a multi-currency payment processor. In the same year, Ric also founded Tari, whose mission is to be the most useful decentralized platform that empowers anyone to create digitally scarce things people love.
And now, Ric’s most recent project is Yat which is a really interesting project that is censorship-resistant emoji-based online identities. This project has not yet launched but you can join the waitlist at y.at. I already have.
What struck me about Ric from the first time that I spoke to him was how open he was to meet with people. He is one of the biggest names in crypto and yet still has time for a lot of people which speaks to his character.
Welcome Ric, it’s great to have you on the show.

Andrew has been involved in and founded multiple businesses in the FinTech space.
Andrew’s current focus is as co-founder of LegionPay, a high-risk payment consultancy firm focusing on digital payments such as crypto and card acquiring solutions.
Andrew also founded WealthKingdom, and TheFintechPost, a google news portal providing updates and insights on the Fintech industry.
Andrew has been featured in a bunch of publications, including The Statesman, MarketWatch, and International Business Times.
Andrew is clearly a very capable entrepreneur with a ton of experience and at only 32 years that's really impressive.
**What struck me immediately about Andrew was how open he is and how he seems to genuinely want to build great products and help people.

Today my guest is Anthony Di Iorio who is one impressive human.
In 2013 Anthony funded and Co-Founded Ethereum which is, today, a decentralised blockchain protocol that in just the last 24 hours would have successfully processed over 1.2m transactions.
The native cryptocurrency to Ethereum, Ether, now has a market cap of over $240bn.
Anthony has invested tens of millions of dollars in numerous industries including blockchain and has launched many companies himself.
His current focus and how he and I met is as the Founder and CEO of Decentral, a Toronto-based innovation hub and software development company focussed on decentralized technologies.
Decentral is the creator of the Jaxx liberty wallet and platform which has had literally millions of downloads with zero marketing spend which is just mind-blowing.
Previously Anthony was the Chief Digital Officer for the Toronto Stock Exchange and held an Adjunct Professor position at the University of Toronto.
He has stacked up a slew of awards including:
EY’s emerging entrepreneur of the year award
Fintech leader of the year award
And
Toronto’s list of the 50 most influential people in 2018.
Apart from his razor-sharp mind and ludicrously impressive career, Anthony is a truly nice guy and someone that I really enjoy talking to.
Welcome Anthony, I’m so glad you could make it.

Today my guest is Lungisa Matshoba.
After completing a Business and Computer Science degree Lungi set out to build the world's first VoIP service that would work on a smartphone. They raised some investment and after two years joined the TelFree group. Keep in mind this was before the smartphone and this tech was running on Windows Mobile and Symbian OS phones so Lungi has been around for a while in the tech space.
In Feb of 2013 Lungi co-founded Yoco where he is the CTO today.
Yoco is one of the big African FinTech names. They build tools and services to help small businesses get paid, run their businesses, and grow.
To date they have over 120 000 paying customers and are on a massive growth trajectory.
Lungi is articulate, surprisingly calm for someone that's part of the leadership of a rocket ship like Yoco and also a genuinely nice guy.
Welcome Lungi, it’s really great to have you on the show.

Today my guest is Nic Haralambous, who, if you living in South Africa you probably already know.
Nic is a global speaker on entrepreneurship, side hustles and curiosity.
He has authored a few books now, the most recent of which is How to Start a side hustle which I believe is a very timeous piece of content.
He has built and sold multiple startups over his career which began when he was 16 years young.
Nic recently launched the Slow Fund in South Africa which gives away R1000 every day for 365 days to help an aspiring entrepreneur to kick start their side hustle.
Nic is an original thinker, someone that is fearless in his opinions, and an all-around nice guy.
I got to know Nic properly while we were both at Consensus in NY in 2018 over probably too many beers but I really enjoy his conversation and insights and I am sure that this will be an episode filled with practical takeaways that you will be able to apply to your business and life.
Welcome Nic, great to have you on.

Today my guest is Daniel Dubois who is one inspirational human.
His bio is kind of ridiculous so I am going to pick out just a few things that jumped out at me, keeping in mind that Daniel is just 29 years old:
A top 30 under 30 winner.
Canadian G20 Delegate
Two-time venture-backed company exits.
Co-founded a laneway housing company which led to a $50m property development.
Has traveled to over 30 countries
Turned down a professional basketball contract to follow his passion by joining the next Big Thing fellowship.
Daniel is one of 14 A360 scholars chosen by Peter Diamandis.
Daniel worked for Airbnb for 2 years where he made some interesting observations which led him to his current focus which is as the co-founder and President of Key.
Key is fundamentally changing the way real estate works for the better, for the many, making financial prosperity realistic and attainable.
They have raised over $5m in their friends and family round and over $1Bn in real estate tied up.
If you are in the property market you’ll want to watch these guys, not just in Canada but globally.
Daniel is a super impressive guy and at only 29 years old I get the feeling that he is just getting started.
Welcome Dan, it’s great to have you on the show, and thanks for making the time.

Today my guest is Bryan Habana, who likely needs no introduction if you live anywhere in the world where you are able to watch Rugby.
But just in case you live in a place like Adelaide that doesn’t follow Rugby Union Bryan is widely regarded as one of the greatest players in Rugby history with a list of achievements and accolades that is too long to list. He is an absolute rugby legend
What some might not be aware of though is that Bryan has also got a strong entrepreneurial and business streak in him which he is now focussing on and doing very well.
Bryans's current focus is as co-founder and head of business development at the PayMeNow Group which is FinTech that provides an employee benefits platform offering early salary advances, focusing on responsible financial inclusion.
Bryan is a super nice guy and I have no doubt that you will get some value from this discussion.

Today my guest Yaniv Bernstein and I'm really excited about today's theme. We are going to be discussing what it really takes to build a tech team for your product.
Yaniv completed his PhD in Computer science in 2006 and then went to work at Google as a software engineering manager for 5 years on the youtube team.
He then did a stint at IBM for just over a year before going back to google for another 4 years this time to work on the google maps team.
In May 2018 Yaniv joined the Airtasker team as VP of engineering and then in March 2020 he became COO and that is his current focus and where it would appear he has found his area of genius.
Airtasker is an AUS based scaleup that connects experts to get the job done across almost any task that you can think of.
They have raised over $25m in funding to date and are set for an IPO in the very near future.
Their team is around 100 strong and growing.
Yaniv also has a newsletter called WTFisaCOO which delivers weekly insights into organizational leadership in tech and beyond.
Welcome, Yaniv it is great to have you on the show.

We are small enough so that you are always close to the principals but big enough to be able to deliver at the highest standard consistently without key person dependencies.
We have deep expertise in Fintech, and particularly Blockchain
We have a proven track record of expanding and evaluating tech teams and capabilities for our partners.
Hiring great talent is critical to any tech businesses' success, whether it is internal or outsourced.
Oftentimes people don't know how to vet this talent to avoid making bad hires.
I certainly speak from experience when I say that making bad hires can be one of the most costly mistakes that one can make in business and especially in tech so getting this right is essential.
Today I have got my business partner and CTO at Nona Dave O'Reilly to get into this discussion with me.
Dave brings more than 20 years of experience in this field and countless interviews and hires so he is really well placed to share some insights and experience.
He is also an incredibly talented developer in his own right which of course really helps when it comes to assessing talent.
Welcome back, Dave.

Today I'm joined by Saskia Koning who is our head of production at Nona.
Sas is an absolute power house. She joined our business more than 6 years ago in a junior role and through massive amounts of blood sweat and tears she has worked her way up to head of production and has got the scars to show. She brings a consistency that is difficult to find and a get shit done mindset that is so necessary in this role.
Sas has worked on over 100 projects and above all of this she is a really nice human.
Welcome Sas.

Today my guest is Tarek Ayoub from Beforepay.
Tarek is a serial entrepreneur who previously worked as a management consultant generating more than $1.5bn dollars for companies through his consulting.
Tareks current focus is as the co-founder and CEO of beforepay and has recently closed a $6m funding round to accelerate their growth.

Just recently Beforpay won the Fintech Startup of the year award in AUS and they have attracted some very strong investors already.
He has a great energy and I can tell from the small amount of time that I have spent speaking to him that he is super passionate about what he and his team are building. And that he is absolutely a subject matter expert that saw a gap in the market and is doing really to take advantage of it.
Tarek has raised over $9m in funding already and has built a team of 25 that is quickly growing.
Great to have you on the show today Tarek.

Today my guest is Daniel Guasco who is one of South Africa's top tech entrepreneurs and someone who's name you can't escape if you are in the African tech circles.
I’ve actually known Dan since my school days at Westerford in Cape Town so it’s been pretty incredible to watch his journey.
Dan’s list of achievements in businesses is too long to mention but to pick out a few highlights:
Dan was the CO-CEO of Groupon South Africa which, at its peak was rumoured be around R500m but Dan would not confirm nor deny in revenue, employing over 200 people and ended with a very significant exit.
Dan, together with his partner from his Groupon days is also the Co-CEO of team Africa Ventures, an early-stage investment fund that has got 17 portfolio companies in Africa including Lula lend and LifeQ two great companies doing great things.
Dan holds a string of awards which include being recognised as having made the biggest impact on e-commerce in Africa.
Dan's current focus is Click2sure a SaaS platform that enables businesses offering insurance, omnichannel distribution, reduction in administration costs, and better decisions with real-time reporting and insights.
Dan holds an MBA from London Business School and this is quite amazing because has was diagnosed with ADHD but didn’t let that stop him.
Dan is an obsessive entrepreneur - he even runs his family home as an Airbnb, not because he needs to but because he just can't help himself.
Really stoked to have you on the show Dan, welcome.

Today my guest is Rupert Taylor Price who is someone that I have come to know quite well since moving to Australia and someone that is so impressive it’s hard to keep up.
His story is great and we’ll learn more about it but here are some highlights:
First job at 12 years old in a warehouse in the UK.
He then did an honours degree in physics before working in the recruitment world where he learned some valuable lessons for his future career.
At 23 he Started Hivetec, a SaaS platform that delivers flexible software for employment care and support services in Australia.
This business grew to around $5m in revenue with extremely impressive margins.
He then started Vault Cloud at 29 years old a secure cloud solution for governments and critical industries.
Rupert raised a staggering $350m of committed capital for Vault cloud which has got to be one of the biggest raises in Aussie history for such an early-stage startup.
When he is not totally killing it in business he is flying his plane, sailing a boat somewhere or running a marathon.
Rupert humility is quite staggering, and it blows my mind that from time to time he asks me for my opinion on something which seems nuts but I suspect this is why he is so far ahead because he is open to learning from anyone about whatever he needs to learn about.
Rupert, welcome, it’s great to have you on the show.

Today my guest is Fred Schebesta one of Australia's top entrepreneurs who is best known for co-founding one of the world's leading comparison websites, Finder.com.
Today Finder is in 83 countries and sees over 10 million visitors each month.
Fred also leads Finder's venture capital arm, Finder Ventures and is currently focused on the firm's biggest project yet which is a $5m investment into the Finder app.
Fred is on the young rich list and has amassed an impressed $193m personal net worth and I get the sense that he has not even hit his stride yet.
I’m going to stop there with his introduction because if I list all of his achievements, awards, contributions and accolades we won't have any time to talk!
He is a force of energy and inspiration, a fierce cryptocurrency advocate and what has impressed me since I first met Fred in New York in 2018 is just how accessible he is to like-minded people.

Today I’ve got Dave with me again.
Dave is my partner at Nona and our CTO.
Dave has been programming since ‘91 and has worked with some of the world's leading brands on a massive range of projects across too many industries and technologies to mention.
He holds a computer science degree with honours in Semantic Computing.
Naval Ravikant is one of my favourite sources of wisdom and he speaks about how to determine who is worth listening to and who isn’t and one of his main points is to differentiate between people who are memorizing their content and essentially just repeating it and people who understand their subject matter from first principles. Dave is the best example that I know personally. Dave explains highly complex concepts from first principles and he does it in a way that is accessible and in a way that actually leaves the person that he is speaking to feeling smarter rather than overwhelmed and that's a gift.
Dave also likes cool t-shirts, BMW’s and computer games.
You can get hold of Dave here: https://www.linkedin.com/in/davedavedave/
The book Dave mentioned: The DynamoDB Book by Alex Debrie

Paul’s current focus is namesandfaces.com. They make visual directories for organizations that have more people that one can comfortably remember.
Namesandfaces.com is a Y Combinator, Accel and Slack Fund backed company.
Paul was born and raised in South Africa but now lives with his family in SanFrancisco and his team is split between South Africa and San Francisco so Paul knows a thing or two about running remote teams and cultures.

Today my guest is Rob Rawson who is one impressive guy.
Rob and I explore bootstrapping to scale, insourcing vs outsourcing your tech team, the value of remote work, building products that solve real problems, and a lot more.
Rob studied and trained as a medical doctor and practiced for 3 years in Australia. While still studying and living with his parents Rob got his first taste of being an entrepreneur and there is a story about this coming later.
Rob has built many businesses some of which include a competitor to WhatsApp, a site to help people improve their lie detection skills, an advertising agency and an SEO agency.
Rob is also a real estate investor in the US market.
He has experienced many failures and much success and one of the things that struck me when I first met him was his humility and calm demeanour despite an obviously impressive track record and capability.
Robs’ main focus now and for the past while has been timedoctor.com, a SaaS business that helps with time tracking and productivity for remote teams. Rob has built this business to revenues of over $10m more than 8000 customers and with growth of over 100% in the past 12 months and he has done all of this with no outside investment. Pretty damn impressive.
Rob is a veteran tech entrepreneur and has got significant experience with building offshore global teams, across marketing, sales, and software development.
You can contact Rob at rob@timedoctor.com and be sure to check out their conference at www.runningremote.com.
