Welcome back to the home of sports talk for the average joe.We start the showoff thanking Jay Coble the owner of the Harrisburg Stampede for coming on the show again and for being as candid as he was with what it takes to operate the team.

We get into the first half of the show talking about theSuper Bowl. We talk about Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce. The signing of Corbin Burnes, the team’s success last season despite the Angelos family’s ownership. The O’s core of talent being a reason to believe they will continue to be successful in the AL East. We get into the Fairweather Johnson type fans who team jump because a new team is successful. We also get into as a kid when you try to emulate a player you love when you are learning the sport. And the usual end of show off the rails discussion.

From there we getinto the Major League Baseball Hot Stove Season, we get into the Phillieskeeping Aaron Nola for 7 years and $172 Million, we talk about Blake Snellprobably going for similar money and length but is more questionablephysically. The length of the contract is discussed and what that looks likefor the last three years of the contract. We move into discussion of the rumored trade between the Padres andthe Yankees for Juan Soto, if he will be worth the money, he was looking tocommand two years ago when he was traded from the Nationals to the Padres. Also, discussed is the issues within the Padres front office and clubhouse. We wrapup the discussion with talking about Shohei Ohtani and where he could potentiallyland. We decided that the Dodgers make the most sense after consideration ofthe teams who are still in the running. In the second half of the show we discuss this years NationalHockey League Winter Classic uniforms for the Seattle Kraken and the Las VegasGolden Knights. We talk about the history in Seattle hockey that the Kraken arepulling from and we get into why the Golden Knights uniform is a fauxbackjersey similar to the Tampa Bay Rays uniform from the early 2010’s. We alsotalk about a few uniforms from prior Winter Classics that we thought wereabsolute stand outs as far as overall look and being a fairly accuratedepiction of a uniform from the era of hockey it was representing. We get intowhy most of the Flyers uniforms look exactly the same no matter what era theuniform is from. The Nashville Predators Stadium Series uniform is brough upagain with how bad it was. Why hasn’t a Penguins vs Flyers game hasn’t happenedat Beaver Stadium at Penn State University. Then we tossed around locationsthat would be cool for a Winter Classic or a Stadium Series game

Welcome back to the home of sports talk for the average joe!

This week we get right into it by discussing the rumored merger between the USFL and The XFL for the 2024 Spring season. We talk about what the rumored 12 teams would be using a 50/50 split of teams. We discuss potential hub locations for the teams, and we also talk about the new broadcast agreements doing away with cable TV games and going strictly over the air television stations like NBC, ABC, and Fox. We wrap up with a discussion on if the NFL should throw it's weight behind this merged league and if it could potentially be a true developmental league for the NFL.

In the second half it goes completely off the rails. Our intention was to discuss dangerous sports. But starting with Ice Wars it completely falls apart. It goes to the LNAH which is a French Canadian Ice Hockey League known for it's fights and violence. Finally we go to the Danbury Trashers and you will have to listen to find out how they are all related to each other.

All this and more!

This week we are joined by our friend Dave Lacher from the 2216 Podcast. Please give them a listen!

We start the show off going into the MLB trade deadline. We talk about The Los Angeles Angels taking Shohei Ohtani off the trade block. We get into some Philadelphia Phillies discussion as we are Phillies fans. We also talk about New York Mets going all in on a fire sale (This was recorded before Max Scherzer was sent to the Texas Rangers)

In the second half of the show we talk about Entertainment Sports. We get into Monster Trucks and American Gladiators. We get a little into the classic names of Monster Trucks like Bigfoot, Grave Digger, Carolina Crusher and Snake Bite. We talk about how there are two touring groups between Monster Jam and Hot Wheels. We really get into American Gladiators due to the recent 30 for 30 and the Netflix docuseries as well.

All this and so much more as we sidebar, deviate, and just completely go off the rails getting each other to laugh. We hope you enjoy this episode as much as we did recording it.

The boys are back in town!

After a hiatus due to life happening, we are back and coming in hot on a discussion about the sports franchises who have the most championships. We argue legacy over recent success. We dive in to the big four sports and we talk about to legendary minor league teams for hockey and baseball. It gets heated but we never stray from making it a fun discussion. The teams we discuss are the Montreal Canadians, Hershey Bears, New York Yankees, Durham Bulls, Los Angeles Lakers, Boston Celtics, Pittsburgh Steelers, and New England Patriots.

In the second half we bring you even more obscure/wacky sports. We talk about Unicycle Hockey, Shin Kicking, and Greased Pole Climbing. If you are a regular listener you know we love finding unknown sports to bring to you on the show. We also talk about the previous ones we have discussed and which ones we think standout.

The Not Another Sports Podcast is back from an extended holiday break. We start this show off with a discussion about what happened with Damar Hamlin on Monday Night Football during the Bills vs Bangles game. We go over our initial thoughts of the hit, why we are conditioned to immediately look for head trauma as a football fan. We move into why we think Joe Buck handled the situation perfectly, the current status of Damar's health as we were recording and how great it is that he's breathing on his own and communicating again.

In the second period we go over the ongoing drama that is Carlos Correa's opt out for free agency this MLB off season. We go over the initial injury that is causing concern on his physical, why the Mets may not sign him and how he could go back to the Twins on a shorter deal than he was anticipating.

In the third period our intention was to discuss the NHL Winter Classic uniforms, but it became more of a generalized discussion about the Winter Classic itself, how it stemmed from the Heritage Classic, and why the uniforms worn by the teams are so important to recognizing the history of the sport.

All this and much more!

We start off the episode talking up the MLB winter meetings, and all the free agent signings. We discuss why we believe many top talent free agents are opting for longer contracts for less money than previous eras of baseball. We talk about the Padres, Trea Turner, Aaron Judge, and the Mets. We also get into the balanced schedule that is being tried this coming baseball season.

In the second period we go back to Baker Mayfield who has been discussed twice previously on the show when we were talking about the Brows QB woes. Mayfield was recently dropped from the Carolina Panthers after a disastrous start. Only to be claimed off waivers and put on a career performance for the Rams where he will be leading them for the rest of the season. We talk about this, and why some players thrive playing for a new team.

Finally we get into the third period where we talk about our favorite and least favorite jerseys from teams that we don't root for. Jason went with the Tampa Bay Rays Fauxback, and the Detroit Pistons late 90s uniforms as his best and least favorite. David went with the Atlanta Flames, and the Vancouver Canucks V look as his best and least. We also talk about some possible additional content we are currently working on for our YouTube channel.

all this and a lot more on this episode of The Not Another Sports Podcast!

We move into the NHL season just kicking off this week, and David provided some good observations on the first week of the NHL season. He also talks about the teams that are considered the favorites to go to the Stanley Cup Playoffs for this season. We also talk about the Calgary Flames bringing back the Blasty alternate jersey. Welcome back to the Not Another Sports Podcast!

We start off with an update on the NFL Pro Bowl. We discuss the changes including the skills competitions, the flag football game, and comparing it to the NBA and NHL all star weekends. We also get into Jason's issues with his microphone stand.

The second period starts as a discussion about Albert Pujols and if he will be inducted into the Baseball Hall Of Fame. But it goes into a tangent about Jason's thoughts on why baseball needs to re-examine who their Greatest Of All Time (GOAT). He compares it to other GOAT's in the other professional sports leagues.

Finally we dive into one of the Forgotten Stadiums and Arenas, this one is The Homestead Sports Complex in Homestead, FL. A truly sad story for the town of Homestead but with a good ending.

All this and so much more

Welcome back to The Not Another Sports Podcast!

This week we start off hot by diving into the news of the week with Minor League Baseball (MiLB) voting to Unionize. We discuss how this can improve the lives of minor league players. We talk about the current food stipend for players on the road, how Minor League Baseball is an investment into the future of Major League Baseball (MLB).

In the second period we get into some MLB's rule changes for 2023, and specifically the implementation of a pitch clock. It leads to a classic rant from Jason about MLB's insistence on trying to attract a fan that is not interested in watching baseball, his thoughts on city connect jerseys, and what he thinks MLB should focus on to draw new fans.

The third period is a look back at one of the most fun and possibly the best NHL game of all time, NHL Hitz 2003. Join us as we reminisce, laugh, and share stories of times playing this game, and why we think it is a stand out game that needs to be brought back.

All this and much more!

The Not Another Sports Podcast is Back!

This week we lead off the show talking about Angel Hernandez yet again! As he is suing Major League Baseball (MLB) yet again! This time because he believes he is unfairly barred from working a World Series. We get into his history with blown calls and overturned calls. We discuss what it would take for him to be able to call a World Series, and kind of poke fun at him as well.

In the second period we briefly get into some National Football League (NFL) discussion. David tees up to Jason about fantasy football as he had his draft this week. We talk about Jason’s Super Bowl statement that if the Rams won he will buy a Matt Stafford shirsey. We look at who are the favorites to win each division, and who is predicted to win the Super Bowl.

Finally we wrap up the show talking about the 35thAnniversary of The Great Potato Caper. Which is a moment that is part of Minor League Baseball (MiLB) folklore. We get into the story of what happened that night in Williamsport PA on August 31st 1987 when Dave Bresnahan pulled off one of the greatest trick plays in baseball history.

The Not Another Sports Podcast is back!

This episode is a follow up episode from episode 49. Not how it was planned but just how it worked out. We lead off the show talking about the official 11 game suspension of Deshaun Watson. Our feelings on the matter and on him, from there it veers off to Todd Bertuzzi and his actions against Steve Moore in the NHL. As well as the views of the really crazy die hard Browns fans, tailgating, Pizza Pete at Buffalo Bills games, and a lot more.

In the second period we follow up with the news of the BIG10’s new TV rights deal with FOX, CBS, and NBC. We get into how the BIG10 was the longest partnership ESPN had with sports rights dating back to 1979 when the channel first launched. How NBC only aired Notre Dame games, and finally we talk about how this huge TV rights deal can benefit the networks, the BIG10, the schools, and the students not just the student athletes.

Finally we wrap up the show talking about the famous and or infamous bench clearing brawl between the Atlanta Braves and the San Diego Padres on August 12th 1984. Jason has seen this clip many times and David just watched it before we recorded the 3rd period. David and Jason are back this week with the home of sports talk for everyone. That’s right the NASPod has landed!

We start the show off this week by doing a quick recap of the NHL playoffs thus far. We discuss the lack of overtime games, the surprising teams that are doing well, and we break into one of our normal discussions with the modern NHL the lack of physical play and specifically the potential for Sidney Crosby to have had a different career had he had protection from an enforcer.

In the second period, we give an update on the USFL. We also talk about our concerns with the lack of fans in the stadiums and how we think this might be alleviated next season if the USFL can play games in the teams home cities and not in one centralized location. We talk about the quality of the games and if we think that the league will continue especially with the fact that FOX is involved with the league for the content it will provide both FOX and it’s cable channels.

Finally we hit a controversial topic for the third period. We discuss ads on jerseys. We give you the listener our thoughts on advertisements on jerseys, why we are for or against them. We also look at how some European Hockey leagues treat ads on jerseys.

This Episode of The NASPod

We start the show off talking about some milestones that were hit thus far during the 2021-2022 season for various sports. We talk about the Hershey Bears 3000th win in the AHL, Alexander Ovechkin moving to 3rd in all time goals in the NHL, LeBron James becoming the 2ndall time in points and field goals in the NBA, and of course Tom Brady adding to his all time touchdown throws in the NFL.

In the second period we follow up on a topic we have discussed quite a few times with some historical information. The NFL did have a farm/development system a few decades ago. We discuss the Atlantic Coast Football League, the Seaboard Football League, the teams in those leagues and who their NFL affiliates were. We also dive into Jason’s fleshed out idea for an independent baseball team. Right down to the mascot. It’s hilarious and so far off topic that both of us could barely keep it together.

In the final period, we address the situation behind the scenes with a recent sponsor, we also decide that since we were recording on Good Friday we would talk about the infamous Good Friday Massacre between the Montreal Canadiens and the Quebec Nordiques from the 1984 NHL Playoffs.

All This and More!

In the 1st period we discuss the relaunch of the USFL, we also talk about the original USFL, the great 30 for 30 documentary about the USFL called Small Potatoes: Who Killed the USFL, and the players who went on to have hall of fame careers who started professionally in the USFL. We also discuss why in the last 20 years spring football hasn’t worked. Also, we get into what we are hoping to see from the new USFL.

The 2nd period we talk about the recently announced Baseball Hall Of Fame nominees for this year. We discuss the potential of the 2008 Phillies being one of a very few World Series Championship teams to possibly not have a hall of famer on the roster. We also go over the players who we feel had potential in this list but for one reason or another their careers were shorter than expected. Finally, we get into the last chance nominees and we discuss the reasons for and for not for Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, Sammy Sosa, and Curt Schilling.

Lastly, we arrive at the 3rd period. This week we go over defunct teams who either folded or moved to a new location. We start the show announcing our new merchandise site https://naspod.creator-spring.com/we also announce a contest giving away an official Not Another Sports Podcast T-Shirt listen closely to see how you can win a shirt. We then transition into this day in sports.

From there we go into the 1st period we continue in our talk about minor league sports. This week we lead off talking about the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL). The ECHL is the professional hockey equivalent to AA level baseball in professional baseball. We talk about the fact that even though both players in baseball and hockey at this level are paid the same amount, the hockey players have health care, travel, and lodging covered where as that’s not always the case in minor league baseball. We touch upon the fact that a now defunct ECHL Team has ties to the classic sports film Slap Shot.

In the 2nd period we get into the world of professional lacrosse, specifically the National Lacrosse League (NLL). We get into the history of the league, their current TV rights deal with ESPN, and their former deals with ESPN as well as a video game deal they had with Acclaim. The league has flirted with the mainstream sports world and maybe one day the NLL will do more than flirt with it.

In the 3rd period we looked back on the Arena Football League (AFL) which lasted from 1987-2019. We were both fans of the AFL. We talk about why we loved the concept of Arena Football from the play to the presentation. We talk a little about how Arena Football was first conceived and when the first test game took place. Also we speculate if market saturation played a role in the downfall of the league itself. Now the concept of Arena Football is still around in the form of the Indoor Football League (IFL) and many other regional leagues.

All this and much more!

Episode 9 of The Not Another Sports Podcast is here!

One this episode David continues to ask Jason for updates on his Fantasy Football season. This time David gets an unexpected response. Clearly Jason is having quite the season.

The 1st period topic this episode is a question from friend of the show Brad from the Baseball Together Podcast. He was curious on their thoughts on why hockey players seem to have longer careers than baseball players. David and Jason both give their thoughts on why this is. David himself who played amateur hockey had some great insight into why this may be. They also compared hockey to baseball, basketball, and soccer. Specifically the mental and physical aspects of the game. They wrap up the segment by discussing the toughness of former goalie Clint Malarchuk playing 10 days after almost dying on the ice in 1989.

In the 2nd period they discuss Snow Games. Jason leads off with the 1982 Snowplow Game between the New England Patriots and the Miami Dolphins. David discusses the 2008 Winter Classic between the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Buffalo Sabers. They discuss what made each game memorable as well as why snow games in particular are so special in the world of North American sports.

Finally in the 3rd period they talk about Unlucky Teams. Jason and David each looked at this topic from two different perspectives. Jason brings 3 teams who have a history of bad luck with bad seasons, wasting talent, and so on. The teams he talked about are the Detroit Lions(NHL), The Baltimore Orioles(MLB), and the Orlando Magic(NBA). David however discussed 3 teams who have not performed well in their leagues respective playoffs. He spoke about the Boston Bruins (NHL), The Buffalo Bills (NFL), and Philadelphia Phillies (MLB).

We have also created a YouTube watchlist with clips based on references on the episode which you can find here.

Join us in this episode of The Not Another Sports Podcast as David and Jason discuss the world of sports and sports adjacent topics.

This episode starts off with David’s asking for his regular update into Jason’s fantasy football season. Which then breaks into a discussion about Tom Brady, Tony Romo, and Joe Buck.

Period 1 they discuss the potential for the NHL to shutdown before the new season even begins. They talk about the NHL’s current revenue stream being primarily ticket driven. Jason suggests that the NHL could mitigate this potential issue by going with virtual fans like the NBA, and WWE. They discuss the logistics of that idea and how to implement it. David brings up Alexander Ovechkin’s chase for Gretzky, and that leads us to the NHL potentially looking into hub sites for the 2021 season and how that might look in the 2021 season. From there they game out how the league would look like with a temporary change for a Canada Division for the 2021 season.

In Period 2 they talk about AJ Hinch being hired to manage the Detroit Tigers and Alex Cora being rehired by the Boston Red Sex after the fallout of the Astros sign stealing scandal. In relation to that Jason brings up Pete Rose and the punishment he got for betting on baseball as a manager back in 1989. They also bring up baseball’s history of gaming the system to a teams favor, and that mangers in the early 20th century were betting on their own teams. Also, discussed the affect the steroid era had on baseball’s record books. Going back to Pete Rose they talk about if his punishment were to be lifted, what would Pete Rose’s role in MLB look like if he was allowed to be involved with the game now.

Finally in the 3rd Period they cover the world of wacky sports team names. They discuss teams from minor league baseball (who has the most wacky team names based on our research), college sports, and etc.
