After spending almost two years riding the bus with the Birmingham Barons, the Pace and Space Podcast is finally making its return to the NBA scene! And despite the challenges we are all facing we were all given the gift of The Last Dance documentary. And just as there were 10 amazing episodes, we put together 10 of the best questions they could come up with to discuss this amazing moment in sports. Given the robust dialogue that ensued, we've decided to break it up into two parts. So here are the questions we tackled in the part 1 of our two part coverage:

  1. Did this documentary deliver on the hype?
  2. What memories did this doc bring us back to?
  3. Who came off looking the best?
  4. Who came off looking the worst?

Stay tuned this Friday when we release Part 2!

Calvin and Leif are back to discuss Games 1 - 3 of the NBA Finals and break down each game...but first, they have to discuss the weirdness that took place in Philly and Bryan Colangelo.

What do the Sixers do now ahead of perhaps one of the biggest summers in the franchise's history? Will Brett Brown remain the GM? Will they go after a GM that can help bring in LeBron? So many questions still remain for the team with so much promise.

By the way, the NBA Finals also happened this week. Calvin and Leif discuss LeBron's greatness, who should Finals MVP, and of course the Notorious J.R. Smith.

It is Conference Finals time in the NBA Playoffs! So as usual, we have to give a preview on how we think both series will go. More importantly, Leif and Calvin do their "postmortems" on all of the teams that were ousted in the second round.

To be honest, this is going to be a lot of spicy debating about the Toronto Raptors and what they should do next. You won't want to miss this episode.

Leif and Calvin are back to discuss all of the happenings on Round 1.

Was it a goaltend? Does it matter? We also try to find out where Victor Oladipo has been imprisoned after Game 1.

We discuss the disappointing performances throughout the East, setting up what could lead to the upstart 76ers making it all the way to the NBA Finals!

In the West, it's business as usual with the Rockets and Warriors pretty easily getting through both of their series. But Round 2 may not be so easy for either team.

Can the Pelicans give the Warriors a run of their money? Is Anthony Davis the best player in this series (spoiler alert: we disagree on this)? And who would the Rockets prefer to see: The Jazz or the Thunder?

We also talk about impressive performances so far. Has Ricky Rubio finally realized his potential? Is Jrue Holiday the best sidekick in the playoffs?

Listen in now to see how we answer all of these questions!

We are still only just a few games into all Round 1 matchups, but that doesn't stop from jumping to conclusions based on what we've seen so far. We have a lot of matchups to discuss and we give a lot of takes.

Is Terry Rozier becoming a breakout player? Is Joe Prunty even coaching? How long will it take for John Wall to realize how he needs to play for this team to win? We discuss these questions and more all during our Eastern Conference recap.

Then in the West, why won't the T-Wolves give Towns the ball? Are the Blazers frauds? Playoff Rondo is a real thing, but is Playoff Jrue also a thing? Where did Playoff P go in Game 2?

You'll want to hear discuss all of this, plus give our Playoff Dudes and Duds of the Week.

We are getting closer and closer to the NBA Playoffs. As we look ahead to April, multiple storylines have popped up in the end of March to produce more intrigue.

Steph Curry is injured once again, and will most likely even miss the first round of the playoffs. Are the Warriors in danger of a potential first round exit?

LeBron has been playing at an all time high, even for him. Is this streak he's on a precursor to yet another Finals' appearance for himself and the Cavs?

And, finally, Markelle Fultz has returned to the basketball court. Leif and Calvin discuss his return game and what it could mean for the Sixers (currently 4th in the East) in terms of making potential playoff noise.

Lastly, for a change of pace, Calvin gives us the Dude and Dud of the Week.

March is Madness, and it's no less true in the world of the NBA. This week we get right into the fire with Wiggins' complaints about being the 3rd option on T-Wolves? Does he have a point? Calvin and Leif discuss.

Also, what in the world is going on with the Spurs and Kawhi Leonard? Why is he still not on the court? And is this finally becoming a lost season for the San Antonio Spurs?

Next, we circle back around to talk about the hottest team in the league right now: The Portland Trail Blazers. Are they for real? Just how good do we think they can be?

Last up, we discuss more turmoil in Cleveland, this time with Ty Lue having to leave the team due to illness. We wish Ty Lue the best and openly wonder what this means, if anything, for the Cavs during this already tumultuous season.

Last but not least, we get into Leif's Dude and Dud of the week!

The Raptors are the best team in the East...and it's time to give them their due! Calvin and Leif discuss all things Toronto after their impressive win to snap the Rockets win streak over the weekend.

Kawhi is returning to the Spurs this week, but is it already too late? Or should we expect the Spurs to be THE SPURS and make a deep playoff run once again?

We also talk about familiar faces and places as Derrick Rose reunites with Thibs in Minnesota and Dwyane Wade's resurgence since coming back to the Miami Heat at the trade deadline. How will these moves effect their teams moving forward?

Last but not least, we have our Dude and Dud of the week. You're going to want to stick around for this one as Calvin ends with a very spicy take about Kevin Durant!

What's your favorite soup? Would you throw it at someone? Did you find what Harden did to Wesley Johnson disrespectful? And where are Wesley Johnson's ankles?! These are the questions we need answered this week!

While we have a bit of fun talking about J.R. Smith throwing soup and Wesley Johnson turning into a shooting stars meme, we also get into the Western Conference playoff race, which is as serious as it gets. Specifically, we talk Spurs (and are they in danger of missing the playoffs), the Blazers (winners of 7 in a row), the Pelicans (winners of 8 in a row), and also the Rockets (winners of 15 in a row!). Ten teams are currently fighting for playoff spots in the West, and we discuss (once again) who's chances we like the most.

In contrast, it's looking more and more like the Easter Conference top 8 is set. But who will finish where? And who do we think looms as a sleeping giant in the East (it's not who you think).

As usual, we finish things off with our Dude and Dud of the week.

We're back! On a new day! Fresh off a jammed pack weekend of NBA Action, Leif and Calvin are ready to discuss it all.

We start things off with the Warriors vs Thunder match this past Saturday. First off, was Zaza's play dirty? And are the Warriors a "dirty team" in general? We then take a closer look at the matchup between these two teams and openly wonder about the Thunder's chances in a playoff series.

We follow that up by talking about some other dark horses in the Western Conference: The T-Wolves were starting to put things together, but now they've lost Jimmy Butler presumably until the playoffs. Can Towns and Wiggins step up as leaders and keep the team at pace for home court advantage?

Then, after Calvin called them out last week after the Cousins' injury, Anthony Davis has put together a performance for the ages as the Pelicans have won 5 straight. Can he keep this going? Just how scare are the Pelicans heading into the playoffs?

Lastly, we discuss Mark Cuban's comments about tanking and the state of the league in general. Is tanking good? Just a fact of the NBA? Can anything be done to fix it? We discuss that and more on today's episode!

Wow! We had a massive amount of movement at the NBA Trade Deadline. And who was front and center but none other than LeBron's Cleveland Cavaliers, who moved a staggering 6 players and their own first round pick in a complete overhaul of the roster. We'll break down all those trades, what they mean for the Cavs, and how these moves impact the teams they dealt with. We also discuss the potential fit (or problem) of Isaiah Thomas on the Lakers. Will he end up getting bought out?

After discussing the trades we get into ball movement and we start off this week with a little twist.

Big, big trades this week in the NBA. Superstar and face of the Clipper franchise Blake Griffin was traded to Detroit. What does this mean for the Clippers? Who's in charge now? And did they press the right reset button? On the other hand, does this trade make Detroit a contender in the East? And are we thinking about contracts in the right perspective these days?

After the trade talk (some of it), we get into injuries. Demarcus Cousins is out for the year with a torn achilles. We discuss what this means for the Pelicans and their playoff chances, but more importantly what this means for Cousins future and his impending free agency.

We then (once again) get into the dysfunction in Cleveland, but before that we talk about Kevin Love's recent injury. Is this a hill too steep for the Cavs to climb back out of? Listen in for our takes.

We also discuss the slam dunk participants, and finish things with the Dude and Dud of the week!

Calvin and Leif had a lot to talk about the FIFTIETH episode of the Pace and Space pod. First up is meetings, meetings, meetings. They talk about the Cavs team meeting, the finger pointing of Kevin Love, and what does this all mean long term for the franchise.

Next, we talk about Damian Lillard's recent meeting with Blazers' owner Paul Allen. Is Lillard in Portland for the long-haul? Will they finally need to split the Lillard/McCollum backcourt if they want to become a contender in the west?

Then there is the Jason Kidd firing? Why did Milwaukee do it now? What does this mean for Giannis? And who do we think can come and turn things around?

We couldn't complete this episode without talking about #TeamLeBron vs #TeamStephen. (Why isn't it #TeamSteph or #TeamCurry though? Who calls him Stephen anymore???)Leif and Calvin discuss the all-star teams, who they thought has the better roster, and who would they consider to be snubbed (and also who they should be replacing).

We also have a new segment called "Ball Movement" this episode. And of coures, last but not least, we have Leif's Dude and Dud of the week.

This week's episode has action. It has intrigue. It has drama. It has STAR POWER.

Leif and Calvin kick off this week's episode discussing the the brawls (or almost brawls) that have been occurring this week all over the NBA, featuring front and center the Rockets/Clippers scuffle.

Next up we get into the trade rumors surrounding the Cleveland Cavaliers. Will they be able to make any big moves to bolster their lineup for the second half of the season?

We follow that up with a discussion of Kemba Walker and the trade rumors around him. What team do we want to see him on the most?

Lastly, we get into the NBA All-Star selections. Leif and Calvin take on the roles of LeBron and Steph trying to round out the starting lineups of the two teams.

We wrap up as always with Leif's Dude and Dud of the week.

Wow what a slate of games we had on Monday! And Calvin and Leif are ready recap them all...well most of them. They give their thoughts on each of the first four games from the day, give their overall feelings about each team as we head into the new year, and also who stood out in each game (for better or for worse).

Then we discuss if a team like the Raptors had a legitimate beef for being off the big day schedule? And what team(s) or player(s) would we like to see play on Christmas Day next year and beyond. And we also get into our dudes and duds of the week.

We're back with a brand new episode and it couldn't come at a better time. This is week is very on brand. The official/unofficial podcast of Kyle Kuzma was happy to discuss Kuzma's 39 point performance against the Rockets earlier this week. (2:00) That leads to bigger picture discussion about the Lakers at this point, and what Calvin and Leif they should moving forward.

Big news for Isaiah Thomas and Cavalier fans this week, as IT will begin a rehab assignment in the G-League. What does this mean for the Cavs moving forward? And is it all systems go now?

We wrap that up to give a preview of the five holiday games this coming Monday. Which games are we looking forward to? Stay tuned to find out.

After that Leif gives his dude and dud of the week, and we wrap up discussing Lavar Ball's proposal to start a league for High School graduates called the Junior Basketball League.

Lots to talk about in Episode 45 this week. First up, have to discuss the red hot Cavs who are on a 13 game winning streak. Is LeBron playing his best ball ever? Are the Cavs ready to take back their spot atop of the East, or are we looking at fools' gold?

Next, we switch conferences and discuss the Cavs NBA Finals' rivals Golden State. Can KD keep the team moving full steam ahead with Steph Curry on the shelf? Could the Warriors actually not be the top seed in the West this year? We follow up answering those questions with looking at the western conference overall. Who do we think will be the odd team out come April?

Lastly, we discuss the Philadelphia 76ers, who made a big trade Thursday afternoon by sending Jahlil Okafor, Nik Stauskas, and a 2nd round pick to the Brooklyn Nets for...Trevor Booker? What?! You know Calvin has to talk to Leif about this trade. Then we discuss Joel Embiid, both the internet sensation and basketball player. Is he quickly becoming the best center in the league? Calvin and Leif discuss all of this while their two favorite teams play each other (Lakers vs Sixers).

Editor's note: Calvin was very happy while Leif was crestfallen.

And last but not least we turn the floor over to Leif as he gives us his Dude and Dud of the week. You'll want to stay tune for this week's winners.

Plus, we get into LeBron getting ejected from a blowout win, ask whether or not the Eastern Conference has become better than the Western Conference, and Leif gives us his Dude and Dud of the week!

We are in the middle of a NBA renaissance this season! Centers can now shoot 3's, dribble, even run the pick and roll! What does it all mean?! Calvin and Leif get into it this week in our episode. But before that, they get into Joel Embiid's career night versus the Los Angeles Lakers this week. Embiid looks like the real deal. Simmons looks like the real deal. Lonzo Ball? Well...we'll get into that (much to Calvin's chagrin).

Also, how close are we to seeing more Magic Johnson type players entering the league? And did Kyrie Irving make the right choice to bet on himself?

We answer all these questions, plus see who Leif has lined up for his Dude an Dud of the week.

It happened! Eric Bledsoe is a Buck? What does that mean for Giannis and co. in their pursuits to reach the top of the East? Moving on from that trade we go on to discuss some big name teams early on. Have the T-Wolves figure it out? Will OKC ever figure it out? What do the Rockets once CP3 is healthy?

Also, where's Kawhi?! And do you buy the Celtics 10 game win streak?

Last but not least we discuss if the Knicks are a playoff team, plus we get into Leif's Dude and Dud of the week.

Is the earlier start to the season negatively impacting veteran teams? Is it helping younger teams be competitive?

Are the Magic a playoff team now? The Pistons? The Pacers?

Then we discuss the early season performances of Kristaps Porzingis and Victor Oladipo.

Calvin and Leif fire up the podcast machine to give their way too early thoughts and opinions on the NBA season after just one week. Is Giannis the MVP? Is Simmons winning ROY? What is going on with Fultz? And is Lonzo Ball a bust?

Along with discussing all of those questions to two get into the Eric Bledsoe drama in Phoenix, and debate about which team he should play for next. Along with that they discuss the new and improved Blake, and whether or not they were wrong about these new look Clippers. Then they move on to their general likes and dislikes about the NBA season so far.

This week on the podcast we conclude our NBA Season Preview series with the Atlantic Division.

Unfortunately, Leif was not able to be on this episode, but long time friends of the pod Jonathan and Martin hopped on to help us out. And seeing how Jon is a Celtics fan and Martin is a Nets fan this seemed like the perfect episode to have them on.

We discuss the Joel Embiid extension, What we think of the new look Celtics, and whether or not the Raptors are spinning their wheels or not.

We also discuss New York Basketball, explain our hopes for the Knicks, and Martin gives us a hot take guarantee about his beloved Nets!

Look for some new changes to the Podcast and how you can reach us in the near future!

The Pace and Space Season Preview makes a quick detour as we discuss the NBA's recent changes to the All Star game format. We discuss what we like and dislike about it, while also taking a huge tangent into which cities deserve basketball teams.

After we wax poetic on all of that, we focus our attention on the Central Division. Which gets pretty dark. Will the Cavs retake the top spot in the East this season? Will the Bucks live up to their sleeper hype? What do the Pacers do now post Paul George? Same for the Bull post Jimmy Butler? And can Stan Van Gundy keep his job this season?

We discuss all those questions and more on this week's episode!

Just when Calvin and Leif were all set to get into the Southeast Division (not really), we got some big news this week. Melo got traded to OKC, and Wade found his way to the Cleveland Cavs. The duo also discusses the recent changes to lottery reform and resting players (Calvin has some intense thoughts on this!)posed by Adam Silver, in an effort to discourage tanking.

After all of this, they finally get into the Southeast Division. Can the Wizards improve on last season's success? Can the Heat play a full season the way they did the second half of last season? Can the Hornets bounce back and make the playoffs? What do hawk fans have to look forward to this season? Are the Magic the worst team in the NBA?

And, ultimately, why the case could be made that Magic, not MJ, would be considered the GOAT of the NBA.

Is LaVar Ball a good thing or a bad thing? Leif and Calvin tackle that very question on this week's pod. Also, who's really responsible for the LaVar Ball phenomenon? You'll have to stay tuned to hear our answers on that one.

After debating all things LaVar, we bring back into focus the Kyrie Irving drama over in Cleveland. Why hasn't a trade happened yet? Where do we think he'll go at this point?

And lastly, we discuss another trade we believe is being impacted by the Kyrie Irving situation: Melo to the Rockets. He wants to go there, but the Rockets can't offer a good package, so how will it get done? Also, what are some other teams Melo might want to consider going to play for?

We dial back the clock all the way to the beginning of this month and open up with their thoughts on the Paul George trade to OKC, Hayward signing with Boston, Blake staying in LA, and much more.

They also discuss between all of the free agency frenzy their takeaways from Summer League. And give their (very) early thoughts on the Eastern and Western Conferences looking ahead to the upcoming season this fall.

P.S. Starting next week, Leif and Calvin will be discussing less current events and begin a series where they focus on topics they've always liked about the NBA. Like who their favorite players of all time are, if they really think MJ is the greatest ever, etc. Be sure to look out for new episodes all summer long.

Who should the Spurs keep? Who should they sign? Is Chris Paul going to San Antonio? These are all questions the guys cover about the black and silver.

Then the Celtics...are they trying to win now or win in the future? Can you try to do both at the same time? And is this genius or playing with fire by Danny Ainge? The guys cover all of these questions and more.

They switch it back to the Playoffs and ask some intriguing questions like: Did Zaza Pachulia ruin the Western Conference Finals? Is the Eastern Conference afraid of LeBron James? And will the Cavs and Warriors face each other in the finals both undefeated? Last, but certainly not least, the crew discusses the All-NBA selections that came out earlier in the day. Leif and Calvin are back to discuss Round 2 sweeps and what should the fallen teams do in the offseason. They start off with a rather lengthy discussion about Kyle Lowry, his free agency, if Toronto should consider giving him the max, and what team would be the best place for him to go (3:00). We then somehow get turned around and start talking about if Steph Curry would ever leave the Warriors (31:00), and somehow end up on the Knicks and if Melo will get traded (again!) (51:00). The guys then discuss the Utah Jazz's impressive season and what it means for Gordon Hayward as he enters free agency (63:00).

Following all the free agency talk, the fellas get back to the current playoffs, and openly wonder if anyone has a chance to unseat Golden State and Cleveland from another NBA Finals rematch. While they are recording, however, they tune into Game 6 of Spurs/Rockets matchup (spoiler alert, it's not a close game) (75:00). That leads to a discussion if the Spurs can beat Golden State, who we'd rather see face Cleveland, and what we think will be the end result.

Then we move over to the Round 2 matchups while answering some listener questions as well. Do the Raptors have any chance at all versus the Cavs? Do the Jazz have any chance against the Warriors? Will the Wizards upset Boston? And who will win the battle of Texas?

Some of it great detail (i.e. Bulls vs. Celtics) and some of it in…let’s just less detail (Looking at you Wizards vs. Hawks!). They answers questions like “Is Paul George making this series about himself? And is he wrong to do so?” and “Did Westbrook cost the Thunder game 2?” Also, Calvin is already begging for forgiveness about his NBA Finals prediction (Spurs vs Raptors), calls himself a coward, and has decided to follow his true passion by predicting a Giannis vs. LeBron second round matchup! Who do we think are done, and who do we think can fight back and turn these things around? You won’t want to miss this data-driven podcast! Listen now!

Well, we made it everyone. This weekend begins the NBA Playoffs! After a long, grueling, but exciting season it’s down to the final 16 teams as they strive to win the NBA championship. Leif and Calvin sit down to go over all of the First Round Playoff matchups. They make predictions of which teams will win, who will be the top player in each series, and who they think the X-Factor will be as well. They also do their best to make a case for why the other team could win (it’s not always easy to do). We also answer our very first listener question, courtesy of Duane Glover! Duane is also a small business owner with his own clothing line. Go check out his stuff at http://gregoryduane.com. He also is a musician here on Soundcloud. Check his profile out @duanekglover1

Boston and Cleveland battling it out for the Number 1 seed in the East? Portland snatching the 8th seed away from Denver? Miami continuing their climb into the playoff race (now SEVENTH)??? Also, what’s going on with Cleveland?! You know Leif and Calvin had to get on the podcast machine and talk about all the shakeups happening in the conference playoff races. The duo starts off talking about Russ Westbrook’s crazy stat line (1:00) and then after they get right into the big Spurs/Cavs matchup, that wasn’t (3:00). Then they get into the Celtics rise to the top seed and if they have a shot to come out of the East (4:30), and what’s wrong with the Cavs (10:00). They also get into what will be the key playoff matchups to look out for (30:00). We also give love to Dario Saric and how he’s sewn the Rookie of the Year award.

The Pace and Space Podcast is bigger and better than ever. On this week's episode, Martin and Jonathan rejoin Leif and Calvin for a four man podcast! And this week's topic is...tanking! To tank or not to tank, that is the question. The fellas discuss team building philosophies and ask the hot button question: Does tanking really work? They discuss a various number of NBA franchises who may or may not have tanked in recent years, and examine where they currently stand. But first, they give a big shout out to Dirk Nowitzki on reaching 30,000 points.

Kevin Durant is injured. Kyle Lowry is injured. Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons are out for the season. This is a sad, sad week to talk NBA news. But fear not, Calvin and Leif have found a way to laugh about it all! They talk about the rash of injuries, the additions of D-Will and Bogut to the Cavs, Jennings on his way to the Wizards, and much more! Wow! Where to begin? How about New Orleans, where they just landed superstar DeMarcus Cousins to play alongside fellow superstar (and Univ. of Kentucky alumni) Anthony Davis. And that is only the tip of the iceberg in this week’s episode. Joining Calvin and Leif to discuss all the big happenings from this week’s Trade Deadline is friend of the podcast Jonathan. Jonathan is also the creator of our amazing intro music as well. You can find all of his dope tracks on https://soundcloud.com/jbzxii. Jonathan is also a big Celtics’ fan, so we have to talk about all the trade deadline activity juxtaposed to Boston’s inactivity at the deadline. Did they make the right move? Should they have done whatever it took to get that superstar? We also talk about the big shake up in La La Land, with Magic Johnson taking over as President of Basketball Ops for the Los Angeles Lakers. Will he surprise people, or is this more chaos? All that and more is coming up in the Pace and Space Podcast!

We have trades!!! That’s right, Calvin and Leif are breaking down the big news: Serge Ibaka is now a Toronto Raptor. They talk about what it means for the Eastern Conference playoff picture and the near future of the franchise. We also talk about the Kevin Love injury and how the combination of this news plus the Ibaka trade could now affect who comes out with the Number 1 seed in the East. They also talk about the Nuggets/Blazers trade with Jusuf Nurkic heading to Portland and Mason Plumlee heading to Denver. And just when you thought things were turning around…here come the 76ers and another Joel Embiid injury. And, are DeMarcus Cousins and Draymond Green being targeted by the refs? Stay tuned for all that and more on the Pace and Space Podcast!

The two heavyweights had a battle of words over the past week, so Calvin and Leif had to discuss what’s going on there. Then, we ask if we should be worried about the Cavs’ losing January, and look at teams on the rise in the East like Washington and Miami. And to wrap things up, we look at who will be competing during all the events on All-Star Saturday, plus pick our winners and dark horses for each competition.
