Pina Palau’s new single, Patti’s Words, rolls along like a sparkling, crystal-clear stream down the side of a mountain on a muted, misty morning. It’s pensive, it feels light, and the longer you listen to it, the more hypnotic it becomes. By the end, when it finally unravels into something orchestral and sweeping; that’s when you realise that you’ve been getting drenched all along.    The song was inspired by Patti Smith’s autobiography Just Kids. Inspired, meaning that: shortly after Pina finished the book, she stuffed her backpack full of clothes, grabbed her guitar case and flew out to New York. Although, the city she was looking for, with all its grit and decadent glamour, was nowhere to be found, the trip turned out to be nourishing in other very profound ways. First of all, it birthed this song! It also exposed the beauty hidden in the pursuit of the irrational and, with that, the notion that life, like the creative act, is often guided by a hidden internal logic that only reveals itself in hindsight. In that light, Patti’s Words isn’t so much a song about chasing “ghosts” or following in the footsteps of your idols, but a document of an artist coming into own: understanding their purpose and the hidden nuances of their craft. In other words, it’s a song about gracefully accepting “the call.”   Patti’s Words is the second single from singer-songwriter Pina Palau. It was taken from her upcoming debut album titled Illusion, set to drop in 2022. The record was produced together with Mario Hänni (Mnevis and ex-Drummer of Sophie Hunger and Pablo Nouvelle) and is best described as a labyrinthine journey through various shades and inflections of indie folk.

Mountainwater, the debut single, begins with a L$P shoutout to the record label Dubokaj co-founded and where he released his previous albums, Mouthwatering Records misspelling it Mountainwater Records, which is great poetry to begin with! The field recordings capture the sound of the secret Swiss Mountains Laboratory door slamming. The concept of the album is one of the disruptive attention span of the journey from the virtual realm into reality and then back again.

The synth riffs on the Mountainwater single almost act like doorways: they soundtrack the way we turn our computers and laptops on and off, but the main feeling is that we are actually commuting between nature, the Swiss mountains and an indoor space. Maybe we are in front of a screen watching something on Daydreamflix, your favourite Dubokaj & Lee $cratch Perry surrealist broadcasting channel. This could be the last episode of Black Mirror.

True - Close Call by Mouthwatering Records

“Just The Look” is the song you’re putting on to get ready before going dancing on your own. Which is considered a sad and lonely thing, but can be a very joyous, freeing experience. You don’t do it for anyone else, you do it just for yourself.

True’s new album “Made Of Glass“ will be out in November 2019 on Mouthwatering Records.

Blind Boy De Vita’s debut single – an explosive psychedelic / trance / folk nugget entitled Hold The Knight – could be the clarion call that the international consortium of freaks, urban shamans, raw chocolate addicts and lovers of the type of sound that is built to bleed through just about any type of box designed to contain it– ufffff! – have been waiting for, for at least minute and some! The song deals with the poetic mechanisms of self-sabotage and tells the story of a medieval knight caught up in fighting other people’s wars in far-off kingdoms. Sounds familiar? The arrangement is sparse and raw, mostly limited to just an acoustic guitar, a voice – a very, very expressive voice! – and some trippy percussion. But if you listen closely you might hear a bit of a prog-rock inflection, some references to South African Zulu styles such as maskandi, North African trance and yes! even a bit of Slayer.

The single is a prelude to the forthcoming full-length entitled Cumpa, which will be released as limited edition chocolate bar developed by the artist with the help of Schöki, a start-up working with African suppliers to create a sustainable, community empowering cocoa trade blueprint.

“Liberty (Ah Ah)” feels like squinting against the first sun rays after a sweaty night in the club when you suddenly realize how easy everything could be: “The world needs a caress to fill the emptiness.” For a short moment, it seems like there’s no better answer to our time’s burning questions about purpose and identity, than singing the globally understandable words “ah ah ah ah” together, while tumbling into a new day and feeling truly free.

“Liberty (Ah Ah)” features TRUE’s live bassist Martina Berther and guitarist Michel Spahr and is released on Mouthwatering Records. The album “Made Of Glass” and new live dates will follow in autumn 2019.

It’s not easy to do away with the obvious. It’s even harder if you’re batting for mass-appeal. This is why Brain Surgery, the first official song from Bern-based outfit Ja Ja Dickicht, is such a mind- boggling revelation. This idiosyncratic Avant-Pop nugget abandons practically everything that’s formulaic about Pop, leans comfortably into a mildly psychedelic vernacular and still manages to be as addictive as your favourite social media channel – minus the side-effects.

If anything, Brain Surgery sounds the way a kaleidoscope works – as if everything you heard was emanating from its centre and then rippling out in a steady progression of colourful, warm, swirling, geometric patterns. The vocals feel syrupy and hypnotic, as if they were melting with every single crackling, baritone-infused syllable – carried along with all the rest of the pulsating, sonic molasses, by groovy, relentlessly-shuffling, jigsaw like drum patterns. And the lyrics? Well, they’re a call for all of us to break out of our self-referential, lonely bubbles; delivered with a highly affective mantra-like drone: “today I’d like to lose all my doubts..today I’d like to meet someone else...today I’d like to smile at someone else...today I’d like a smile from someone else...but for t hat I’d need a brain surgery.”
