Speaking of Diversity and Inclusion: Season One Diversity and inclusion are related, but distinct terms. Diversity is simply defined as the differences and similarities we bring to Mayo. The practice of diversity is ensuring a representation of these different characteristics, and is concerned with such things as the number of people as determined by their race, ethnicity, gender, and many other demographic identifiers. Inclusion, by contrast, is deliberately creating a culture that accepts diversity, one in which people feel comfortable enough, and empowered, to participate and engage in their work and with one another regardless of their diversity. In other words, diversity is being asked to the party, inclusion is being asked to dance.
