Shaped by Faith Special Guest this Week...Angel Welsh

Angel Welsh is the Executive Director of My Sisters Keeper Women & Children's Shelter, in Owensboro, Kentucky.

I have known Angel since she was fourteen years old, working as a life guard at the YMCA. And then there was the Miss Daviess County Pageant when I was the director, my oldest daughter the dance choreographer and Angel just so happened to win that year! I believe her contagious smile, quick witted answers, and spunky personality won the judges over that year!

Angel has always had a positive mind set and is willing to go the distance to help others in need. She is a go-getter, team player, and does what it takes to go after her goals and that makes her a great leader for My Sisters Keeper.

Hope you enjoy listening to our conversation!

Andrea Lende is the author of Life After Lupus. She has battled both lupus and Grave's disease and regained her health using natural methods. She journals her experience from illness to health, sharing exactly what she did to get well.

Andrea writes daily prayers and meditations and offers online Bible studies. She's written over one hundred songs, authored several books, and spoken to many about her recovery. She resides in Denver, Colorado.

As a young person Andrea loved flying planes and was constantly on the go. Up to this point in her life, everything seemed to be going great. After vacationing in Hawaii with her husband, on the flight home, her health began to take a nosedive. She recalls that it was hard for her to breathe on the plane, and this frightened her. She then began noticing other health symptoms that concerned her since she had been healthy all her life.

After being seen by many doctors, an allergist diagnosed her with Lupus, an autoimmune disease. Her labored breathing, intestinal problems, and fatigue became overwhelming as her body continued adding additional symptoms associated with Lupus.

She is so thankful for her mother, aunt, and cousin who also had Lupus, and who became her greatest allies. She talked with each of them every day for support. She is also grateful to the naturopathy that helped with her diet and hormone balance. It took Andrea three years to regain her health, which she did through diet and natural methods. She is most thankful to God, for her renewed health and recovery.

There is lesson to be learned, as we trust God and seek his wisdom, he gives us direction.

Shirley Crowder is an author and freelance Christian writer living in Birmingham, Alabama. Born under the shade of a Mango tree and raised as a missionary kid in Nigeria, West Africa, she is passionate about disciple-making. Shirley is a conference speaker, Bible study leader, biblical counselor, and co-host of a radio/TV program "Think on These Things."

It was exciting for Shirley growing up in Nigeria as a missionary’s kid. She played in the hot African sun enjoying the great outdoors while exploring the landscape with her pet monkey. She was not afraid of big snakes or big lizards that made their appearance most days of the week. Shirley loved watching her parents in action at the Leper Clinic and took note of how they treated everyone the same, with respect. Her parents loved people and Shirley loved them too. This formed the foundation for her outlook on life, that we are all made in God’s image, and He loves each of us the same.

Haley Huskisson is board chair and volunteer for CrossRoads.

CrossRoads is a nonprofit, created to establish an interdependent network of individuals and organizations working together to combat poverty and homelessness in Daviess County, Kentucky.

In 2006, CrossRoads started out as a food pantry and soup kitchen, formerly in the basement of New Life Church, now located at 1631 Breckenridge Street. In 2016, Crossroads to Hope Emergency Overnight Shelter for Women and Children was opened as the only emergency overnight shelter for women and children. Women are provided with a place to sleep for the night, a hot meal, and other basic needs. Clothing, shoes and other essentials can be provided, if available, or we can get donated from the generosity of the community.

CrossRoads offers to help to provide relief from poverty and homelessness…

•Emergency overnight shelter for women and children.

Crossroads to Hope has provided for over 900 Women and their children since 2016.

•Emergency food assistance, commodities (thru Tristate Food Bank -USDA foods) and non-commodities (thru donations from community and Meijer Simply give food donation card program). The food pantry plan is to open a “free grocery” type pantry that will allow the clients to “shop” for their selection of foods listed, instead of being handed a box of food to hopefully restore some dignity.

•Commodities food distribution provides for over 500 Seniors monthly.

•Nana’s Cupboard is helping Grandparents who are raising their grandchildren.

Monetary donations can be made through CrossRoads website, by Paypal or credit card as a one-time donation or monthly donation.

Checks can also be mailed to 1631 Breckenridge Street, Owensboro, KY 42303

My guest, Erik Stephen, is based out of Phoenix, AZ. Erik has been traveling full-time around the United States and Canada with his wife and son for the past 5 years sharing his unique style of hip hop which blends his faith with his love for geek culture (comic books, superheroes, Star Wars, pro-wrestling, Disney) which he has labeled Christian Nerdcore.

To say that Erik Stephen understands what it’s like to be on the fringe is an understatement. Erik had lived in five different states by the time he was in high school, with his first year in high school being semi-homeless. This made it difficult for him to make and keep friends, so he often found comfort in geek culture.
