Embracing the undefined season of life... It's not for everyone, but it is worth exploring.
As humans, it is our nature to label and define things. In its simplest form, this allows us to quickly asses things as helpful or harmful. Good or bad. Right or wrong, and so on.
When changes happen in our life, by our choice or by an external choice, we do well to start defining where we were, where we are and where we want to go. However, if we embrace the undefined season in our life, meaning we let go of the idea of figuring everything out, it opens up the possibility of us learning more about the things we otherwise would completely miss.
But be warned... It should be treated as a season, not a permanent way to live life. Unless that's your thing, in which case let go and live!

Who am I? That's a question we tend to ask ourselves when life gets shaken like a snow-globe. But instead of a flurry of snow, its pieces of the life we had and pieces of who we thought we were.
Often we identify with our position in family, or a title work has given us. More commonly we identify with what others have told us we are as we were growing up. But what if we took the time to sit and ask ourselves "Who am I?" before life flipped and turned upside-down? What if we took the time to look past what everyone else told us they saw, or projected on to us, and found our authentic self?

It is time for you! The idea that we only pour into others because that feels good or because it is good to be in service to others, is a disillusioned idea. We absolutely MUST pour into ourselves first, otherwise there will be nothing to pour into others. Without taking care of yourself - without loving yourself - you will not be able to sustain caring for and loving others.
Invest in you. Your health. Your heart. Your mind. YOUR LIFE.

Following up from our discussion about Hope & Faith, Joe shares with us how he gained perspective about Hope after hearing his mother give a sermon shortly after we recorded the first interview. Joe & I reflect on that fact that even as a coach, we are always learning and growing - one of the key elements to being a good human.
Our conversation also takes us deeper into how manifestation works, and why taking inspired action is an important component to manifesting. I also ask Joe to share more about why he uses oracle cards and how he first started using them.
Joe Longo is a certified life coach from Lumia Coaching. But that's not all - he's also an intuitive mindset and manifestation coach, podcast host of the Daily Shot of Inspiration, artist, photographer, conscious content creator, and kundalini yoga and meditation teacher.

Discussing Hope & Faith with Joe Longo may or may not be the discussion you expect it to be. But usually the unexpected discussions are the more interesting and thought provoking ones.
Our conversation starts with the topic Hope vs Faith, but we soon find ourselves covering a wide range of life changing topics; from being in a low to coaching and even a handful of religion and spirituality for good measure.

Can you let go and ben in the moment after experiencing a personal challenge or set back? Can you move past the "what ifs" and just be in the present?
In this episode we play with the idea that once something is over - let it be. Once something has passed - let it go. Let's look at the possibility of growing through something and not getting stuck in it. Ask yourself, can you come out the other side of your persona storm and remember there is value in living life and being in the present moment?

Are you taking a break or are you distracting yourself from dealing with the things you need to face?
It can be difficult to discern one from the other, especially when we are in the think of it all. But it is worth asking yourself. It is worth stepping aside from your daily habits and routines to gain perspective and evaluate your use of time.
Yes, take a break. You know I am a big fan of taking a break. But just make sure you are not fooling yourself into believing you are just taking a break with 2 hours of social drinking every day after work or 2 hours of doom scrolling on your phone every evening.

I urge you to approach this conversation with openness and respect, appreciating the diversity of religious backgrounds and perspectives.
Join me in a conversation embarking on a spiritual exploration - let's meander paths of faith, traversing the vastness of beliefs and their profound impact on our lives. No matter if you are devout to a specific religion or a free spirited spiritualist, my hope is that you will find "a place at the table" in this conversation.
There is a discussion around the strength that faith and spirituality can offer in personal development, especially in overcoming habits that don't serve you. I also invite in teh perspective of the science mind that may not connect to faith or spirituality.

Finding purpose through despair and tragedy is no easy feat, but our guest, life coach author and public speaker Carey Conley, has managed to do just that. After experiencing the heart-wrenching loss of both her husband and son to suicide, Carey transformed her anguish into hope. Together, we explore the challenges of entrepreneurship, the necessity of an anchor of hope, and the power of spiritual connections.
Carey opens up about her incredible journey through success as an entrepreneur, her transition to coaching, and her passion for teaching others about the importance of having a written vision. We discuss the significance of self-care and healing, as well as the extraordinary spiritual connection she shares with her son even after his passing. Carey's candid accounts of her own grieving process inspire us to be resilient in the face of adversity.

In this episode I share my experience in dealing with a "season" in my life where work took over a few weeks of my life - And how I prevented the habits and routines of that season becoming the "new normal."
Being intentional of how I want to live my life BEFORE the tough season hit allowed me to shift back to MY path after I made it through that season. Mindfulness and being intentional are great hashtags on social media. But they are also great real-life actions you can take to live on purpose with purpose.

Have you ever wanted to purse something greater, but then avoided it? Or maybe you started down that path and even seemed to be gaining momentum to only stop yourself from continuing.
The term "Fear of Success" may not make sense at first. I mean, why wouldn't you run towards success and embrace it? Why avoid it?What is there to be afraid of? But it ends up there is a lot more to it than you might expect.

I call it BS.

We tend to understand how our mood and our emotions can influence our behavior. Having a really good day, or a bad day, can influence the music we decide to listen to, the food we eat, and the activities we choose to do, or do not do.
But get this - the reverse is true too. We can influence our mood and emotions by choosing specific behaviors. For example, I often do not feel like doing my weekly run, but once I am out there running, I am loving it and so glad to be out for a run.
In this episode we look at how behavior activation helps us understand how behavior effects and even influences our emotions.

WELCOME TO SEASON 3!
We kick off Season 3 with the reminder that our words have definitions and therefore carry weight. In this case, I am curious to know if you can replace the idea of "good habits and bad habits" with "habits that serve me and habits that don't serve me."
It may seem like a silly and simple change, but research supports that what we tell ourselves impacts us. Thanks to our cultures and the world of language we grow up in, the words we choose matter. So choose them wisely - be mindful and empower yourself!

Stress. It is either all up in your business or lurking around, just waiting to get in the way of what would other wise be a good day. Wouldn't it be cool if you were able to handle stressful times with a little more grace? Imagine what life might be like if stress didn't hit you as hard or linger as long as it usually does.
What if there was a way to better prepare yourself for stressful times?
In this episode I discuss two things you can start doing now that very well may help your future self move through stress, And no, you can't avoid stress nor can you completely manage it with absolute ease. But when you regularly move your body (exercise) and do daily mindfulness (mediation) you set yourself up to better handle whatever stress comes your way.

We had the Great Resignation era. We are in the middle of the "Quiet Quitting" phenomenon. But before all of that, back in 2017/2018 most working adults (70%) that were polled stated they HATED their job. Some would rage quit and cause more challenges for themselves in the long run, while others trudged on hating life.
What's the alternative? Well, in this episode we look at ways you can evaluate what you want to do with the 40 to 50 hours a week you spend at work. We discuss actionable strategies you can create that will prepare you to move into the career that serves you well. And we wrap it up reviewing the structure of SMART goals that will be pivotal in your success of transforming your life in to the life YOU want.
I challenge you to live YOUR life on YOUR terms!

Taking a break is important. Giving yourself permission to take a break is even MOIRE important - I'm looking at you high achievers with high expectations of yourself.
Study after study shows that our brains need to take a break from the work we do. AND that same research shows that we perform our tasks better and more efficiency after a break versus pushing through with no breaks. Oh, and get this, we are also better able to problem solve after taking a break.
So give yourself a break already!

What is the source of motivation? Where does it come from and where does it go? Better yet, how do we get motivated when we feel like we have no motivation at all?
In this episode I try to answer that age old question, "Where does motivation come from?" and I also explore how motivation is described and defined in relationship to psychology and behavior.

In this episode I share with you how a book set my life on the course to becoming a certified Life Coach. That book: Oola - Find Balance in an Unbalanced World.
BUY THE BOOK HERE(Click on BOOKS once you are at the site)
I came across this book after going through some difficult times. I was in the process of rebuilding and restructuring how I was living my life. This book, Oola - Find Balance in an Unbalanced World, brought together all of the concepts I had been studying into one book that actually mapped out the formula. Throughout the book Dr. Dave & Dr. Troy share their stories & experiences, mapping out how the framework of Oola works. The book wraps up with the steps on how to figure out where you are now and how to blaze the path forward, in to the life you were truly born to live.

In a world where we can find ourselves neck-deep in overwhelm, burnout and event compassion fatigue like we discussed in the last episode - we can also feel our emotions are glossed over with toxic positivity.
In this episode that is a replay of one of the more popular episodes from the first season of We All Have Something, "Toxic Positivity vs Positive Thinking" - It's one thing to look for a silver lining in what may be considered a bad situation. But it's something else entirely to sugar coat a bad situation so much that you ignore and invalidate real emotions.
In this episode we look at how toxic positivity is defined, how positive thinking & negative thinking impacts your daily life and what you have in life that is worth celebrating! So sit back and join me as we explore the balance being realistic and genuine with our positive outlook on life.

Last week I was honored to be part of a panel discussion on Compassion Fatigue and Burnout - specifically for the animal care field. I was very moved by the response. So much so that the next evening I recoded this episode with no outline, script or prep. So forgive me if this comes across a little rough and less polished than previous episodes.
While both compassion fatigue and burnout develop slowly and over a period of time, only compassion fatigue is usually recognized by doctors and therapists. They are similar in many ways, but compassion fatigue also carries with it the weight of vicarious trauma, or the adoption of the trauma from those under your care.
In this episode I offer up some current concepts around how we find ourselves in these situations. I discuss self objectification, the need for boundaries and the concept of reprioritizing all areas of our life.
Compassion fatigue and burn out are more complex that one podcast episode can cover. But my hope is that this will offer an opportunity for those in need the first steps in understanding what they re going through and how they might find their way back to a healthier and more balanced life.

What is mindset and why is everyone talking about it? How do you even know if your's needs to shift? And if it does, what steps are needed to change your mindset?
In this episode I take a look at mindset, a word that is used a lot in personal growth and personal development. And I share a story of a very famous musician that undoubtedly had some sort of major (pun intended) mindset shift occur when life suddenly changed for him. Time to check in on the playlist of thoughts that you have on repeat! Those thoughts leave a path for thoughts just like them to follow, over and over. Are the paths set in place by empowering thoughts or are they the paths of negative thoughts?
In this episode we explore how out thoughts not only leave these paths in our mind, but whey it is important to be aware of them. We also dive into how we can better curate what thoughts we have on our "mental playlist" to make sure it is truly serving us and not just creating a downward spiral.

Postpartum depression can show up in many ways and can be different for each individual. Unfortunately one things that tends to be common amongst those that suffer from it - the stigma that surrounds it. And how many women quietly "deal with it" alone, feeling ashamed or like they are failures.
Guest Rebecca Budig is speaking up. She is sharing her story through a short film that she produced and stars in, that shows postpartum depression through the lens of the person living it. Rebecca also shares how validating it was to be diagnosed and why reaching out for professional help was so important.

The first week of July marks the halfway point of the year - It's Halftime! And halftime means we take a moment to reflect back on the first half of the year, acknowledging what has worked well and reevaluating what didn't. This allows us to make the adjustments and changes where we need to, so we can maximize our potential in the last half of the year.
In this episode I discuss how I use a tool called the Oola Wheel to take a "snapshot" of where I am in my life every December and every July. And, why this practice is important for anyone looking to stay on track with personal and/or professional development & growth.

In this episode I sit down with Jenniffer Weigel, an Emmy winning broadcast journalist who left the "perfect dream job" to pursue her true self. Known for tackling spirituality with humor through her writing , she has written multiple books, hosts “The Spiritual Social Club” where she interviews authors and gurus from across the country once a week on Zoom or in person. And she has even written and performed a one-woman-show “I’m Spiritual, Dammit!” that had two successful runs on the Chicago stage. And she's currently writing the follow-up, "I'm STILL Spiritual, Dammit!" with plans to launch it in the winter of 2022.
Jen & I discuss what made her realize she needed to make the big leap of fait to pursue finding her true calling - and the fears & challenges surrounding the "leap." We also dive into the work she is doing now and how she uses her journalistic instincts, natural curiosity and "show me the way" attitude to bring people together and foster a positive spiritual community.

Focus is what we are focusing on in this episode. When we are focused on what is going wrong, or the challenges in front of us, we only see those things. Taking the time to focus on what is going right and what the solutions are can potentially change the game for us. As a high school photography class teacher once said, "What you focus on is what develops."

Here it is - I am spilling it!!! For too long successful people have kept the BIG SECRET TO SUCCESS all to themselves. Well I have broken the code. I have snuck in behind the scenes. I gained the trust of the successful, break in to their secret clubs and then study all of the details they know about success, but don't share....
Okay. Here's the truth - There is no secret. That's because it's NOT a secret, it's a system. Successful people follow a system. They stay disciplined and consistent within that system. It's a system or framework called Oola and I have been using for over a year now and it has dramatically changed my life. It is a system that I teach each of my clients. And I can tell you it works really well when you work they system. Using the framework you create your own blueprint on how you will intentionally live your life with more purpose and balance.
There. I said it. It's not a secret, it's a system.

There are many things people do to become successful. But honestly, how you define success may not be how others define it. So how does one make a plan that will lead to success if it isn't something that can be universally measured? How will you know when you get there if it can't be measured?
No matter how you define success, there are habits and actions you can adopt that will help move you in the direction of living a successful life. In this episode we dive into 5 habits and actions that you can do to help you along our path to success.

Have you ever looked at those that are successful and wondered how they got there? How did they follow through and make their dreams in to reality? Everyone has their own success story, but you need to start by asking yourself, "What am I doing?"
What are you doing that keeps you in a confined space of, "just making it through" each day?
What are you doing everyday that moves your life in the direction you want it to go?
By asking yourself, "What I am I doing?" every day, you start to shift your awareness and therefore you can start to shift how you live your life. And fun fact - Your everyday actions do NOT need to be big steps! In this episode of We All Have Something, we take a look at how life's everyday tasks and to-do lists can keep us so wrapped up, we end up never really living our life the way we want. And how we cant start taking small action steps each day to start moving towards the life we really want to live.

There is great value in curating what you consume. And as much as that may sound like I am talking about the food you eat, I am specifically addressing the information & media you consume. And no, I am not bashing "the media" - That is not what this is about. It is about you and what you are mentally consuming in the form of videos, written content, spoken content, memes, etc. This can be actual news or opinions. It can be on TV, on-line, on your phone...
In our very screen centric world where the smart phone (an amazing tool) has become an extension of ourself, it is very easy to casually consume information that does OR does not serve us well. We lay in bed scrolling until we fall asleep. We wake up, scrolling to see what might have been posted in the hours were asleep. wake up. We scroll, we scroll, we scroll and sometimes we may not even consciously realize what we are doing to ourselves.
Our looking-to-pass-the-time scrolling can impact our lives. We can start to feel stressed and overwhelmed about things in the world that we have no control over. Most of the content is created to keep us there, to keep us scrolling. NO, I am not saying you need to unplug completely, stick your head in the sand and become ignorant. I am saying that there is value in being mindful of the volume and the type content you consume.

Compassion fatigue can be defined as a condition characterized by emotional and physical exhaustion leading to diminished ability to empathize or to feel compassion for others. Also, a secondary traumatic stress, sometimes described as the negative cost of caring too much. This can happen when you have overextended your compassion for others. We see this in caretakers, in the medical field, mental health field and in environmental sciences to name a few.
With everything we have going on in the world today, it is important to recognize compassion fatigue (and similar traumatic stress) and how to work through it. Possibly even more important, how to get ahead of it so you do not hit compassion fatigue and burnout.

Live life on purpose and with intention.... But what does that mean? Well, life doesn't happen to you - It happens for you. Living with intention means to be thoughtful in what you do, how you choose to respond and interact with the world around you. Yes, it can be rough out there, but that's okay. Give yourself permission to feel the rough days. Give yourself permission to experience what it means to be human. BUT don't let life lead. Don't just bounce around in what happens and do not get stuck in the ruts of stress. Make conscious choices. Focus your energy, thoughts and actions on what you want to have develop.
I know it is easier said than done. I have been there. I have been in those ruts. I have let life happen to me instead of being intentional. I am here to tell you, you can live on purpose - It takes work, it takes time and takes being patient. And guess what - It is worth it. YOU are worth it.

Understanding that life is a process, is the foundation for being able to achieve the things you want to do and reach the goals you have set for yourself. We sometimes set a goal for ourselves (or set out to accomplish something) thinking if we just keep heading towards that goal, we will hit it. Unfortunately, the path to accomplishing something we want to do is rarely (read never) a straight line.
When working with my clients during a life coaching session, we will always discuss the importance of understanding that life is a process. A process filled with plans we make, unexpected events and many distractions And understanding this is key to successfully navigating our way to where we want to be. When we can recognize that life is a process, we are more likely to make smart adjustments as we strive to maintain balance while navigating through life. Being realistic about the ebb and flow of life will allow us to take things in stride and continue to move forward instead of becoming distracted, or worse, feeling helpless and giving up.

Celebrating the wins in your life, even the little wins, is more important than you may think. And no, I am not suggesting you throw a victory party for every little win. What I am suggesting is to take a hard look at what you focus on. Are you focused only on the 1 thing you messed up on today? Or are you focused on the 7 things you did well?
We all have a mixture of good and bad things happening in our daily life. Admittedly, there are days when it feels like the scale is tipped more heavily in one direction than the other. In fact most people respond to this thought exercise stating there is more bad in their life than good. However, studies show we tend to focus more on the bad than the good due to a leftover survival instinct that kept us safe from sabertooth cats, cave bears and other dangers. So it may not be that there is more bad than good, it is just how we look at the world around us.
So what can you do? You can start celebrating your wins - The good things. Acknowledge them. Write them down. Thank yourself fo all you have done, etc, etc. By establishing this habit you create a shift in perspective. It doesn't mean the bad stuff just disappears, nor does it mean you just ignore the bad stuff. It does mean you shift your focus and perspective to allow you to appreciate and celebrate the good stuff more often.

When you hit burnout, do you walk away from everything or double down on your personal goals in life?
HEY! It's the middle of the year! That's right we are half way through and if you are feeling stressed and have hit burnout, you need to listen to this. Burnout is usually caused by stress that comes from feeling life is out of control. Unfortunately burnout can cause us to shut down and walk away from everything that looks like it might be more work.
Fun fact for you: Taking daily action on your personal goals not only guarantees you'll hit them, it also gives you a sense of having control over your destination and your life. It can actually reverse the impact of feeling stressed and out of control, which as we know, is one of the major factors of burnout.

In my part of the world we are seeing the restrictions from the pandemic being lifted. For many of us experiencing this, the shift back to the way things were is a welcome occurrence. For others, it is that uneasy moment of having to decide... Are we going to make the changes we have now realized we need to make? Is this the opportunity to start something new?
For as many people who can't wait to dive back into the way things were, there are just as many looking to keep the changes they made to their life and not go back to how it was. Call it an awakening, a realization or just finally seeing the alternative - For many, the forced changes that occurred due to the pandemic made them reevaluate their priorities. And now, on the other side of it all, the reality has set in - Where do we go from here?

We are critiqued on where we are lacking. We are told to focus on those weaknesses to improve them and get better in those areas. We tend to look in the mirror and focus on what we don't like and what we need to improve.
What if we lean into our strengths? What if we focused our energy on improving our natural talents instead of trying to push perfecting our weakness? Of course this requires us truly understanding ourselves at a deeper level than just the basic daily existence. Do you truly have the self awareness to understand your behaviors? Your thoughts? Your reactions to the world around you?
Self awareness will allow you truly lean into your strengths and grow. It can be hard work, bit it is oh so very worth it. YOU are worth it.

Blockers do just what it sounds like they would do, they block. They block you from moving out of bad habits and into good ones. They block you from making that next big move in your career or your personal life. They can prevent you from completing (or even starting) your next big project. You get the idea, the list can go on and on. And what makes it worse is, they can be pretty stealthy sometimes. We may know how fear can stand in the way of us doing something, but what about that sneaking guilt or that scheming envy? Yep, they are blockers too.
In this episode I pull the curtain back on a few of the more prevalent blockers that tend to stand on our way. Some are obvious and some, well some may surprise you.

Time to celebrate what we have in life that is worth celebrating!
But before we dive into some positive thinking, let's acknowledge the realities of toxic positivity. It's one thing to look for a silver lining in what may be considered a bad situation. But it's something else entirely to sugar coat a bad situation so much that it ignores and invalidates real emotions.
In this episode we look at how toxic positivity is defined, how positive thinking & negative thinking impacts your daily life and what you have in life that is worth celebrating! So sit back and join me as we explore the balance being realistic and genuine with our positive outlook on life.

Where I grew up, we had fire-drills in school. Meaning, we would practice what we should incase of a fire in the building, so if or when a real fire broke out, we would know what to do to stay safe. Being prepared for emergency situations allows us to navigate the situation a little more gracefully and, hopefully, with minimal challenges.
What if we did the same thing for a personal crisis? What if we had a real conscious thought to create a list of things we can do to better take care of ourselves when a personal crisis occurs? In this episode of We All Have Something, I look further in to the practice of mentally and emotionally preparing for a personal crisis so we can move through them with grace and minimal challenges.

How exactly did I become a life coach? Better yet, why? Well, I saved this topic for episode seven on purpose.
My journey to becoming a coach started with my own struggles and challenges. But it wasn't until I found myself well on the path to restructuring how I lived my life, did I start to feel I needed to do more. I needed to reach back "through the fire" as they say, and support others who are going through the tough times.
So sit back and listen in on how and why this all fits so well into the seventh episode of my podcast.... Enjoy!

Of course, regret and gratitude are not mutually exclusive. They often see others or are even happy to be on their own. But in this episode I explore how we can better live with regret and work with gratitude to better improve our experiences with regret.
Yes, we often see the memes and posts about living with no regrets. But let's be honest, we are humans and we are perfectly imperfect. So instead of pretending we do not have regrets, let's bring those regrets out of the shadows - Embrace them, own them and figure out what we can learn from them. Then, let's show some gratitude for the lessons learned so we may grow and move on.

Imposter Syndrome, is often defined as doubting your own abilities and/or feeling like a fraud in the work you do. It is rarely talked about by individuals that have these feelings, therefore it is very common for someone to feel like they are the lone imposter and talking about it will only reveal to everyone that they are a fraud. Unfortunately this forces the individual to internalize their feelings, compounding the issue further.
However, in this episode of We All Have Something, we find Imposter Syndrome is in fact quite common, even in those that are high-achievers. Diving deeper into this, I found out that those who suffer from it may never really get over the sensations of Imposter Syndrome, but there are ways work through it and recognizer Imposter Syndrome for what it is so you can keep moving forward.

As you become an adult you start to realize there are many things in life that you were never taught in school. And it seems like there is a general expectation that you are suppose to know these things, yet no one can really pinpoint where you were supposed to learn them. Taxes. How to buy a car without getting ripped off. Investing for your future, setting and reaching goals... These are just a few of the many topics that come to mind.
In this episode you and I will dive deep into the missing life lessons of how to realistically set goals and how to reach them. This includes workplace goals that are sometimes set for you by your manager of boss. Oh and by the way, they usually don't know this stuff either, so go easy on them - maybe share this with them.

As we go through life we experience situations that throw us out of balance. Many of these situations are outside forces and some of them are internal due to our own behavior. Nonetheless, is it possible to find our balance again? Can we stay balanced and live a balanced life? Yes and no - it's a process.
You see, we all go through this. Yes, even those who look to have it all together. Yes, those "perfect" people on social media struggle to find and maintain balance . Yes that person you know at work or school who looks to have it all together, them too.
In this episode we dive into what it means to have a balanced life, what steps we need to take to successfully define what a balanced and centered life means to us as individuals. And what it takes to create balance in our life.

Personal Growth requires change. The butterfly & lobster analogy are two different ways to look at the process of growth.
Often we hesitate or resist change, even if we realize and know that if we are going to grow professionally and personally, we need to change. Other times it feels like the Universe/God/the world around us has conspired to turn our life upside down. It can be painful, stressful and mentally exhausting - We ask, why me!? Why is this happening? How can I survive this? But on the other side of it, when we are further down the timeline of life, we can usually look back and recognize it as a time of personal growth.
Looking at all of this through the observation of what the butterfly & lobster go through offers a perspective to helps us through the trials of personal growth.
