April 1918
Even though Russia had withdrawn from the War, the Germans refused, and a battle raged in the small French town of Riez du Vinage. A young British soldier took cover in a cold, dug out piece of earth as artillery shells rained down from above.
The shells - meant for the Germans - often hit their targets, but occasionally, wayward shots refused. One of those shells hurdled down well short of its intended target.
A flash. Defeaning silence.
The young British soldier felt his flesh burn & melt as hot pieces of metal pierced his skin. One even made it all the way to his lung.
He would later go on to recount: “Just after I was hit, I found (or thought I found) that I was not breathing and concluded that this was death. I felt no fear and certainly no courage. It did not seem to be an occasion for either.”
That young soldier, who was left permanently scarred from his own countrymen’s wayward aim, was C.S. Lewis.
Sometimes, despite our best efforts, we don’t realize we are fighting the wrong enemy. Even when we believe our aim to be true, we better be absolutely sure before we pull the trigger.
That’s what this week’s episode is about. Instead of fighting those that are 99% like us, it’s time to rally together and turn our aim against those that want to do us (collectively) harm.

In addition to what we're seeing in the public education sector, we are also seeing it in our churches.
