@wolfgang_tillmans is @Wiels_Brussels for his first large-scale solo exhibition in Belgium.

“Today Is The First Day” presents work by the artist from the past three decades, while opening up onto the latest developments in his practice that include new photography, sound and video works in a spatial constellation, conceived especially by Tillmans for WIELS.

“Today Is The First Day” until 24.05

I want to make a film (2018) is a 9-min spoken word piece, which Tillmans recorded unscripted and in one go on the dictaphone. In it, Tillmans describes, in tone simultaneously serious and amusing, the fictitious project for a film about the ways in which technology has infiltrated our lives, going from the first PCs to the now omnipotent, and omnipresent, smartphone.

This non visual piece is, paradoxically, an invitation to visitors to meditate on how they perceive and inhabit the world.
