That kind of rootlessness can manifest in different ways. You could become someone who has trouble connecting with people. You could live your life with an insatiable curiosity, never allowing yourself to call a place “home”.

You’ll hear about her unique upbringing and how that has shaped the dynamic person she is today. You’ll learn how she gained that rare kind of self-confidence that has propelled her in life and in her entrepreneurial career. This week's guest is Interior Designer Rasheeda Gray. I first met Rasheeda over a year ago when I interviewed her for a project with Architectural Digest. Something about her “always on” business persona stuck with me. It’s clear that her work is very much a part of who she is.

So, wasting no time, I started by asking her what she thought about the concept of professional and personal duality.

Adversity comes in many shapes and sizes. It’s something we all experience and deal with differently. Some face it head-on, others do so more tentatively. Whatever it is, and however you handle it, there’s always a lesson in the things we go through. Sometimes the lesson is easy to understand and other times it takes some serious soul searching. But once we figure it out, it makes everything we went through worth it.

Alex Molden, former NFL player turned leadership and personal development coach, processes adversity by finding an advantage. He believes that our life experiences teach us how to be resilient and grow as individuals. On this episode of the Ginni Show, Alex shares some of the adversity he experienced as a young football player and how he leveraged it to learn about himself and ultimately become a better person. Listen in as he breaks down what it means to be intentional, know your character, and be cognizant of your environment.

In this episode, you will learn:

  • About Alex’s life-changing experience at a bowl game at just 19 years old (2:25)
  • What it felt like for Alex to score a touchdown at the time (4:55)
  • Why Alex came back a better athlete after his adversity (7:08)
  • How Alex trained when physically unable to be on the football field (9:14)
  • How Alex practices being the person he wants to be (11:40)
  • About Alex’s transformational moment after he retired from the NFL (15:47)
  • Alex’s take on the Will Smith and Chris Rock Oscars ‘incident’ (18:12)
  • What an incident with his abusive step-dad showed Alex about his character (19:54)
  • What Alex believes to be the most powerful and unstable influencer (21:31)

Some questions I ask:

  • How did you manage to change your perception of seeing this low point in your life as an opportunity? (6:58)
  • What was that like, the transitioning from one city to another? (12:47)
  • As an influencer, with many people looking up to you, would you say that there are certain things that other people value that you don't? (22:18)

Cynthia employs the same mindsight to designing clothes as she does to traveling: be fearless. From camping in the Himalayas to surfing with sharks in Byron Bay, she maintains that some of the most memorable travel experiences are born from living on the edge. Throughout this episode, we discuss Cynthia’s journey to success as a fashion designer as well as some of her most memorable travel experiences.

Nobody likes having tough conversations – but they’re essential to living a happy life with healthy relationships. So, what’s a tough conversation? It’s one of those conversations where you rehearse it over and over again in your mind before you have it, and you can’t think of anything else until it happens. Maybe they come with anxiety, fear, vulnerability. More often than not, we avoid actually having these conversations, hoping the tension will blow over rather than blow up. Here’s the thing: we NEED to learn how to start having these conversations. According to David Wood – the tough conversations ninja - having tough conversations is the doorway to confidence and success in both work and life, and there’s a big cost to avoiding them. In this episode, David and I talk about the realities of having a tough conversation, from how to initiate them to how to respond when approached with one. He talks through the CARE model and how inmates and CEOs both can use it productively, how to create structure for taking turns speaking, and even how David has applied these tips to his everyday life. Some Questions I Ask: - What’s your advice for creating space for tough conversations? (3:43) - How can the person on the receiving end hold space for a tough conversation? (9:24) - How are CEOs’ and inmates’ conversation styles similar, given the power dynamics at play? (20:01) - What are the consequences of avoiding tough conversations? How are you spending your time during the global pandemic? Before COVID-19 hit, many of us were constantly stimulated. We were always on the go, looking forward to our next objective. At night, many choose to fill time in front of the television or something else. In other words, sitting in stillness is a rare experience. We’ve developed a behavioral pattern of constantly bombarding and distracting our brains with outside stimulation, which blocks out our own thoughts. That’s why I brought Mitra Manesh for this episode. Mitra is a mindfulness thought leader and founder of the Innermap app. Her work is a blend of Western corporate training and Eastern inner-based practices. The result is a unique appraoch, offering knowledge and wisdom in a practical and empowering way. Throughout this episode, Mitra shares her experience of fleeing Iran during war, and how she stumbled into mindfulness and mindful living. She also shares her strategies for mindfully engaging with the past and future – with a strict itinerary – and why we should visit those places. Tune in to get back in tune with yourself and start living a mindful life. Some Questions I Ask: - How were you introduced to mindfulness and mindful living? What are you doing for self-care these days? Now, more than ever, we need to take care of ourselves: our minds, bodies, and souls. Maybe you take a bath, meditate, or allow yourself some time to create a work of art. But sometimes, self-care looks like setting boundaries. On this episode, I talk with Nancy Levin, a master coach focused on helping people-pleasers and over-achievers make themselves a priority and set boundaries that actually stick. For many women around the world, setting boundaries isn’t a common practice – in fact, we’ve never been taught, as a society, how to actually do it. Throughout our conversation, Nancy dives deep into what boundaries actually are, how to maintain them, and busts myths around what it means to cross a boundary. She also discusses how we can reprogram our mindsets and habits to allow ourselves to show up authentically in the world. Take a listen to learn more about setting boundaries, living freely and authentically, and creating a life by your own design. Some Questions I Ask: - When did you realize it was time to start setting boundaries in your life? (7:15) - How do you know when a boundary needs to be put in place? Things are just not normal right now – so why do we expect ourselves to act normally? There’s a bit of societal pressure right now to use your “extra” time to learn a new skill, launch a side business, or do something extraordinary. But we also need to give ourselves a break, time to readjust and create new and sustainable routines to carry us through the COVID-19 quarantine. It’s time to have a conversation about diet culture. I’ve been on many diets throughout my life so far, but I’ve found that almost every reason why people decide to start dieting just isn’t sustainable. The only diet that is sustainable: taking care of your body out of love and respect for yourself. That’s exactly the mindset of today’s guest: Nichole Wurth. Nichole is the founder of Wildly Alive. Her philosophy is that getting healthy isn’t about forcing your body into a certain shape, or to meet a number on a scale, or perfect your summer bod. Instead, it’s about the journey to loving and respecting yourself, and which will lead to a healthier and happier life. Throughout our conversation, Nichole shares about her own health journey, starting from her struggle to comparisonitis to where she is today as a health coach. She also shares about how she developed her effective morning routine over the course of 10 years, about the role that spirituality plays in her personal and professional life, as well as how her childhood influenced who she is today. Tune in to hear about Nichole’s journey to learning to love and respect her body, and how you can begin your journey as well. Some Questions I Ask: - How did you get to where you are today? (2:43) - How can people love and respect their bodies in this day and age? (7:34) - What led you to value connection so highly? (9:48) - How did Surrender Experiment influence you? Hello, my friends. This episode is a little unusual, given the unprecedented circumstances we are currently facing. It’s officially been 2 years and 3 months since I moved from Melbourne to New York City – and it’s certainly had its adjustments. Every day, I wake up to the sounds of the city and the crowds filling it up. But, over the last few weeks, the city’s changed. With COVID-19 pushing the world to make some drastic changes in a very short period of time to keep everyone safe, it’s more important than ever to stay grounded. Take a listen to figure out what keeps you grounded during this time of uncertainty.

What makes you feel good? What motivates you to get out of bed each day? Sometimes it’s the pursuit of your dream job, providing for your family, or just creating space to enjoy that first sip of coffee in the morning. For David Frangioni, it was drumming. David Frangioni grew up blind in one eye. Due to his disability, he was bullied throughout his childhood. But David refused to let them get to him. Instead, he immersed himself in an environment of feeling good. He was in pursuit of being a drummer. Throughout my conversation with David, he talks about how no matter the adversity or differences that you face from the world, feeling good is the key to propel you to happiness. Tune in to hear more about David’s journey and how you can immerse yourself in a feel-good environment each day. David’s Happiness Hack: “Faith gives you the strength that you need. Faith is the engine. We can just say all these words and we can say all the right things and we can talk about all the rah-rah-rah, but it really comes down to action. It really comes down to like, what do you do in your life? The faith that I have — and the strength that I get from that faith — helps me to “do” even in the face of adversity, challenges, setbacks - you know - all the things that happen in life as you’re on your journey. And don’t give up.”Some Questions I Ask: - How did you get to where you are today? (2:44) - What’s your morning routine? (7:31) - What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned from your mistakes? Think about the last time you posted a picture on Instagram. Did you take the picture at a specific flattering angle, add a filter or two, or even edit parts of your body to appear different than they really are? What’s fascinating about this process is that we all know we do it, yet we still judge ourselves critically when it comes to how we look. When we’re not satisfied, we then move on to look at other people’s photos. Chances are, they’ve probably done the same thing—and yet we continue to compare ourselves to that idealized image. Society is focused on showing off young, beautiful individuals; it convinces us that we need the anti-aging cream or the extra filter. But really, aging is a beautiful experience. In this episode, we talk about the gracefulness, beauty, and wisdom that comes with aging. Aging shouldn’t be resisted or feared—it should be embraced and bring you joy. Tune in to start embracing the wisdom that we’ve accumulated in the last 10 years. Some Questions I Ask: - How do we create joy in challenging times? (3:39) - What’s your morning routine? How do you need to grow? Exposing the areas in your life that you need to grow in can be incredibly vulnerable. Society expects that we have all things figured out all the time, but that’s just not how life works. On this episode, I talk with Adam King all about growth. We both share personal stories about learning how to take care of ourselves, set boundaries, and what we’ve learned along the path. Adam also shares the biggest lessons he’s learned from his parents, about self-care, and what makes a great leader. Tune in to learn more about Adam King’s growth mindset. Have you ever taken a leap of faith into the unknown? It’s kind of like standing at the edge of a cliff, imagining all the possibility that awaits you on the other side. Then, you close your eyes—and jump. Moving countries in your adult life can feel a bit like that, too, especially when you’re in pursuit of a dream. You leave behind the environments and cultures that are familiar and comfortable to you, communities you can count on, and you also leave behind some memories and those you’ve grown up with. Of course, you’ll carry bits and pieces of all that with you in your heart no matter where you go, but your new experiences will still totally transform you. My next guest is Aalok Rathod, a fellow podcaster and immigrant to New York City. Aalok is a filmmaker and creative at heart. After living in Mumbai for 20 years, he decided to take that leap of faith in pursuit of his dream, landing him right in the heart of the Big Apple. Throughout our conversation, Aalok unpacks his journey about how he remains grateful, what it’s like living in a new and huge city, and how he navigates the intertwining of his culture with the culture of the Big Apple. As a child, what did you dream about becoming? How does your current reality compare to that childhood dream? More often than not, the dreams we conjure up as children don’t line up with where we go as adults—but sometimes it’s right where we need to be, and it’s what’s best for us and our families. My next guest is Chris Green, host of the Gravity Beard Podcast. Throughout his childhood and into young adulthood, he always said he would never go into a career that had a commission-based salary. Today, that’s exactly where he is. As a child, what he didn’t understand is the level of freedom this would provide him, and the happiness and joy that he would derive from that. Throughout our conversation, Chris shares about his routines that help him find balance in his life, juggling the responsibilities that constantly pull him in different directions, and the mentality that helps push him forward when things go south. He also shares about the meaning of happiness and joy, and what it takes to achieve both on a regular basis. Tune in to hear more about Chris’s story of how he finds the nuggets of happiness and joy in his life.Chris’s Happiness Hack:“If I can look at the way that God has blessed me, which is abundantly over time, and look at the evidence of that, that’s my definition of joy. Having healthy relationships with yourself and others ultimately manifests into a sense of calmness, happiness, and belonging.Yet, in our hectic day-to-day lives, it’s easy to lose those connections and forget about ourselves along the way. What does self-love look like for you? This is a notion I’ve been exploring this year. If you think about it, it almost sounds self-indulgent. But, the truth is, it’s the core of happiness. How you talk to yourself, the boundaries you draw, how you spend your time, energy, and money all affect your view of yourself. It’s about knowing when to say no, and looking after your needs before tending to others. This is the most important type of love you’ll ever experience in your life. In this episode, I talk with Betty Jean Bell, who has embarked on a 20-year long self-healing journey to overcome depression, loss of purpose, weight gain, and so much more. In other words, she’s no stranger to self-love or badassery. Throughout our conversation, we cover the importance of self-love, what it looks like, and what rituals work for Betty Jean. Tune in to learn how to be just a little bit kinder to yourself and embark on your own journey of self-healing. Betty Jean’s Happiness Hack: “Making ourselves a priority isn't a narcissistic behavior. It's not a thing where if you make time for yourself, you're taking time away from other things that are more deserving of your time and yourself.”Some Questions I Ask: - How did you get to where you are today? (2:46) - Why do humans attach to food to cope? (10:45) - Who are the five greatest influences in your life? (22:48) - What does “play” look like in your life? Do you feel like you just don’t have enough time in the day to do what you really want to do? Do you ever feel like you’re just going with the flow, and the purpose of every move you make is just to please others? When we do this consistently, it becomes subconscious behavior. It forms a habit—one that is particularly difficult to break. In this episode, I talk with Dr. Wayne Pernell about the importance of communication between humans—and why it seems to be so difficult to do at times. We also discuss major turning points in his life that led him to where he is today. Dr. P also gives me some on-the-spot laser coaching tips about how the words that I specifically use to talk about myself can impact my growth. Tune in to learn more about how to inspire growth within yourself through a change of language and casting a vision. Dr. P’s Happiness Hack: “It’s really a matter of, ‘What can I do? What do I get to do? How much better am I today than I was yesterday?’ It’s incremental. I always awaken with a smile. I mean, you start there. Happiness is there. It’s created—you’ve created it.”Some Questions I Ask: - How did you go from clinical psychology to breakthrough coaching? (2:57) - What blocks humans from being able to articulate their vision? What does “figuring out” mean to you?We sometimes take ourselves so seriously in our search to figure out what our needs are and what our purpose in life is, that we often get stuck, not knowing where to go forward. Humans are the only species that roam the Earth with the power of choice, and that could be both a blessing and a curse. In today’s episode, I talk with Heather Parady about the power of taking action and choosing to get out and explore the world and play and connect with your inner child. She definitely knows a thing or two about this topic since she is a breathing example of a homeschooled girl that turned from an introvert with no friends, into an extrovert entrepreneur and podcast host.Heather believes that people who are successful at figuring things out are those who are continually moving forward and taking steps and understanding that even though something might not work, it will lead them to discover what the next step should be.So tune in, to learn that choosing to be mindful of what enters your mind and taking actions toward what you desire, can be real cultivators of happiness.Heather’s Happiness Hack:“Even though the circumstances are aligned, you still have to find another level of happiness, which is not what your job is or is not how much money you're making - it's that freedom and that lightness. And I think it's a real spiritual experience - you have to be really connected to yourself and something bigger than you.” (14:20)Some questions I ask: - Where did you find this confidence to be totally yourself and connect with people? What are your strengths? What are your weaknesses? Getting to know the depths of yourself, owning your strengths, and identifying your weaknesses is no small feat. In life, we’re constantly critiquing ourselves and being critiqued by others. It’s all too easy to fall into the trap of focusing on what we’re not good at—and need to improve on—rather than where our natural talents lie. But it’s also equally important—if not more important—to also focus on your strengths. Having that self-awareness to know what you’re good at is a great power that you hold. It allows you to focus on where you can add value, continue growing, and be empowered. In this episode, I talk with mortgage professional and host of the Deposit That podcast: Jeff Van Note. He embodies this concept of owning yourself, focusing on your strengths, and avoiding the pit of comparison. He shares personal stories that led him to achieve his high level of self-awareness, and how this impacts his work in the world. Tune in to hear more about learning and owning your strengths to put you on the path to happiness. Jeff’s Happiness Hack: “Focusing on two to four things that you absolutely need on a daily basis. So if that's stopping and getting a wheatgrass shot, or stopping and getting a protein shake every morning, or meditating before bed, or taking a CBD bath — whatever it might be — you need to make sure you incorporate those two to four things in your everyday life and build off of that.”Some Questions I Ask: - How did you reach your level of self-awareness? (2:41) - What experiences throughout your life have forced you to look within to cultivate your mindset? (6:53) - How did you build up your ability to meditate for over an hour at a time? What makes you happy? Usually, what makes us happiest are the people in our lives. The ones we choose to have in our lives can have a lot to do with our happiness, but sometimes we end up relying a little too much on others to make us happy and feel loved. Do you ever ask yourself, “Where did the time go?”Time is our most valuable asset, yet some of us are too caught up in the day-to-day tasks of life to realize just how we’re spending it. Unlike money or physical possessions, it can’t be saved or stowed away for a rainy day. But, through being present, building relationships, and living authentically each day, our time will be well spent. In this episode, I talk with Libby Moore. She spent 11 years of her time as Chief of Staff for Oprah Winfrey (I’d say that’s a valuable time investment!). Throughout our conversation, she shares her experiences around how we spend our money and time, yet sometimes just give away our power. Libby explains that giving away your power is essentially shrinking yourself down to make someone else feel more comfortable. If you give away your power to someone else, you’re being governed by an outside force. This translates to time spent unintentionally. So take a listen to learn more about Libby’s incredible journey, and how she learned to lead an intentional and authentic life. Libby’s Happiness Hack:“It’s truly being comfortable in my skin, comfortable with who I am and who I’m with, and truly feeling like I’m giving something to the world. To know that I matter, that what I’m doing here matters. It’s creating a positive ripple effect - whether it’s within my family, my friends, my community, and rippling out from there. That truly, to me, is the ultimate happiness. I feel like I’m being of service in some positive way in the world, and comfortable being who I am. Which, I’m very comfortable with who I am now.” (39:17)Some Questions I Ask: - What does your morning routine look like? (3:36) - What has your morning meditation practice brought to your life? (7:34) - Talk to me about your thoughts on not giving away your power. (25:06) - What has coming out been like for you? (30:37) - What is your personal definition of happiness? (38:59)In This Episode, You Will Learn: - How consistent meditation brings clarity to Libby’s life. (7:47) - How the act of surrendering and going with the flow pushed Libby’s career forward. (9:19) - How Libby balances being generous and drawing appropriate boundaries. (16:33) - How Libby uses her innate kind nature to stop the cycle of resentment. Ronita Kalra, from ”Million Dollar Listing New York”, was raised by entrepreneur parents and spent much of her childhood in her father’s showroom on Fashion Avenue in New York City. She is a licensed real estate broker and her energy and passion shine through in her work, as she thrives on being well organized and responsive to ensure her clients’ success. To her, happiness means being well-rounded in your whole life and enjoying what you’re doing, no matter what you’re doing.Join us and listen to this ep of The Ginni Show, where Ronnie and I have a conversation about what it means to be in the real estate industry, as a woman especially. Do you need an attitude change? The way we show up in our everyday lives, and the attitude we put on each day, is a key factor in determining whether or not we are truly happy. It’s not quite that simple, though. It takes a number of steps to get to that state, and the first step is realizing that it’s time for an attitude shift. In this episode, I talk with David Neagle. He’s a bestselling author and one of the architects of the coaching and personal growth industry itself. Prior to his success, David was living a life that wasn’t sustainable and wasn’t making him happy. His days were overwhelming, and he felt likehe just couldn’t make life work anymore. In other words, he hit rock bottom.Hitting rock bottom spurred David on a journey of self-reflection, self-discovery, and a total attitude makeover. Today, he’s choosing happiness.Take a listen to hear more about David’s journey and how he integrated key mindset changes to become the genuinely happy person he is today.David’s Happiness Hack:“If there’s something in my life that I’m not happy with or that is not adding to my happiness, in order to make me happy I will choose to change that thing. I have the power to do that. I’m not going to tolerate something in my life that’s not worthy of it.” (22:43)Some Questions I Ask: - What’s happened for you in the last 5 years? (1:28) - Do you think there needs to be a rock-bottom moment for someone to transform their life? (4:52) - What are your personal routines that keep you centered? (7:57) - What is your definition of happiness? (22:07) - Who are the 5 people that you spend the most time with? (25:46)In This Episode, You Will Learn: - What 3 mindset tools David used to transform his life. (2:25) - Some common barriers to people changing their·attitude. (6:27) - About David’s morning routine that sets the tone for the day. (10:17) - How constantly seeking approval ultimately leads to dysfunction. (14:52) - How gratitude leads to happiness in life. There are 19 days left in 2018. You know what that means like? We turn up the pressure on ourselves even though we are winding down for the holiday season. It's the time we reflect back on the 365 days of the year and set goals, resolutions, and things we want to achieve. It's ironic really. We have 365 days in the years but we wait until the last handful to really think about what we want and what makes us happy. In this episode, let's talk about the pressure we put on ourselves and what makes us really happy.

It's that time of year where we are wrapping up with the holiday celebrations. Whether you celebrate Christmas or any of these holidays, it's a time of year where we can wind down and have an opportunity to embark in the spirit of giving. I just finished the bulk of my shopping this year on the weekend and I wanted to think about how I could contribute to the quality of life and happiness of my nearest and dearest. Regardless of the physical or material gift you buy someone, there is so much truth in the statement - "It's the thought that counts." It's about intention, well wishes and the blessing or prayer you put into that gift that counts. It is in that thought behind the gift that is the actual gift. Let's tune in this Tuesday to the true spirit of giving.

Dr. Chris Zaino was 21 years old in 1998 when he won Mr. America. He was one of the trainers for the Orlando Magic in Orlando and the Xena Warrior Princess; shows we used to have that were awesome. His body healed itself from a terminal disease and he found his way to wellness. Then he went back to school, opened a wellness clinic in 2005 which became the largest wellness clinic in the history of his profession, seeing thousands of people per week, helping hundreds of thousands of people. Winning Mr. America and Mr. Universe, he met that journey as well. Even though things were successful and he checked off the boxes, he thought life was about checking off boxes but he realized that you know life is never about checking off boxes because we are never done. We always evolve, and we are always expanding. On today's episode, Chris talks Ginni through his 5 steps to self-awareness.

It’s important for me to keep a jar of this stuff in my cupboard at all times. But of course, there comes that dreadful moment.I go into the cupboard--the toast is already toasted and ready to go--grab the jar and to my disappointment there’s very little left to eat. Living in New York City can be magical. Not the fairytale kind of magical. There’s no talking animals or wand-holding god mothers, but this city has its own thing going for it.I can easily grab a midnight snack and coffee at the Bodega past 1 a.m. or catch a subway ride to any borough in the city at any given time. That gets some kind of magic points, right? However, at the same time,I’m easily reminded that there are so many people in this city. We all have our goals and dreams and desires. It can be extremely motivating, but it can also be the exact opposite. There’s SO MANY people and SO MUCH going on. It’s hard to stay focus. It’s hard to remember what you’re working towards.

So it’s been 7 months since we’ve caught up.Contrary to popular belief….I didn’t die. I’ve just been settling into a new city, a new home and a whole new lifestyle.I moved house in April, and while it was awesome living in Hipster Brooklyn with cafes and smashed avocado at your doorstep, my appreciation for trees, and laundry in your own home was far more desirable. There's so many things I've learnt living in a new city on the other side of the world - this episode is about happiness and the steps you take to get to this place of happiness. It involves the people in your life, your thoughts and how you invest your most valuable asset: time.

Hello all! Ah, it's been a couple of weeks since we've caught up hey? We've got a couple of episodes of The Ginni Show coming out - and this one is the last Monday Mocha. Today's Monday Mocha is with someone who I've known for a number of years, but have never met. Remember back in the day when we used to have Pen-Pals? This guy is kinda like my pen pal except we've never written a letter to each other. I used to listen to his morning show on Proud FM in Canada and he used to listen to mine on JOY 94.9 with Adam Samuel. We followed each other on Twitter, added each other to facebook - sent emoji's across the web here and there, but we'd actually never spoken. So, this is actually the first ever conversation we've had, live in person. Not through listeners or any listening device, but an actual conversation. What I love about these chats are they are so authentic - you have so much to talk about and you already feel like you know the person. Similarly to me, Chris recently moved to Phuket, Thailand for a radio job where he is the station manager of Live 89.5. We learn about how a series of events from being fired on air from his breakfast gig, having his TV show canceled and his partner break up with him that forced him to reassess his direction and landed him exactly where he is. Another thing you should know about Chris is that he has Brooke Shield's eyebrows. Take a closer look. It's Monday Mocha with Chris Howson! What is your why?It sounds like one of the most simple questions, but it's so powerful that it can determine any outcome and the understanding behind every outcome.A lot of business leaders and inspirational speakers talk about "the why," behind a product or action and how this is what gravitates an outcome to it.If you can put the time into understanding your why - your personal why and the "why" behind your business project or any project for that matter. You'll find that the more you pay attention to this, naturally, the results and outcomes you desire will happen!

Wow, today's Monday Mocha I could have almost done without the actual Mocha.I'm kidding. Why did I say that? I hope the mochas didn't hear me.The episode had so much fire in it that you almost didn't need a Mocha or any caffeinated beverage to get through it.It's no secret that one of my favorite podcasts is The Gary Vee Audio Experience. Gary talks a lot about hustle, hard work and making content. Dr. Chris Zaino DM'd me on Instagram about my podcast and said some nice things. Checking out his channel, I could tell this dude was the real deal. A true hustler and above all sets his purpose to drop pieces of light, truth, and authenticity in the world. Sometimes with time aligns and the universe presents you with an opportunity in the guise of a person, event, circumstance or place, you just need to be in the flow of allowing it to come through without question. So when I did that, this awesome Podcast came to life! Chris shares his story about beating a terminal illness, his workout regime and morning practice which involves waking up at 5 am, reading, being inspired and, check this out - he has a phone holder, charger, and player in his bathroom. Happy New Year everyone! How did you spend it? I'm guessing most of you made New Years Resolutions? Did you know that stats say that 80% of resolutions fail by February. So we're halfway on the way to failing already! It was New Years Resolutions that actually inspired this episode. The very fact that when it comes to the end of one year and the beginning of the next, we make goals, resolutions, a lists of things we want to achieve by the end of the next year. Naturally, this sets expectations. What I'm more interested in, and where I feel I can bring you some value is, the conversation you're having with yourself around these expectations. It's a lot more important than you think. These words or goals we may put on paper is a promise we want (and hope) to make to ourselves. And when we don't achieve these, or set out to achieve these, this is where it impacts our self esteem and crushes our hope. If you can, be mindful of your micro goals. Focus on the little steps. Break down the big goals into realistic and achievable steps. Now, go shine. Enjoy xo

Happy New Year Everyone! So last week, you got a dose of "The Ginni Snow." I couldn't get the episode out as I was snowed in! But safe to say the actual "Ginni Show," is back on Wednesday. It's been crazy cold weather here in New York. I got my first experience in shovelling show. It was fun until I couldn't feel my hands anymore. The other fun part of snow is knowing how much to layer. It's a catch. If you layer too much, it means that every single establishment you walk into, there's a potential that you have to de-layer and that takes time. Otherwise you can just risk potentially sweating up a storm. Nonetheless, it's the perfect time to warm up with a mocha. This week's guest is filmmaker, podcaster and emergency physician Dr Seku Gathers. You may have heard his podcast - The Truth Prescription which is out today and every other Monday. We talk about money versus passion and legacy, why it's important to audit the closest people around you and an attempt to teach me some "hood," talk.Follow Seku: @thetruthprescriptionpodcast Available on: iTunes | ACast | Stitcher | Google Play Featured Voices: Ginni Saraswati, Dr Seku Gathers & Sam Phelps NEXT EPISODE: Monday Mocha Jan 15 / The Ginni Show Wednesday Jan 10 Photos: Joey Middleton www.theginnishow.com

This Episode is about resistance to the one thing that is only consistent in our lives – Change. My belief is that there are two types of humans – those who live in curiosity and those who take curiosity as a gateway to opportunity, evolution and experiences. Sometimes those who live in curiosity as just happy doing that. They’re happy living vicariously through others and it brings them joy that they can do that. And then there are those who make commentary, judgements and form unhealthy dialogue. Generally it’s because it’s coming from a place of regret or resentment that they weren’t able to live out their dreams for whatever reason.

The point of this episode is to encourage you. If you’re not doing something or living a life that makes you truly happy because you’re worried about what others will say – stop. It’s enough. You’ve lived your whole life this way and nothing is going to miraculously change. Unless you change the amount of validation and weight that you carry in other people’s beliefs about the way you life your life.

Surround yourself with your boldest cheerleaders. That unconditional support you get from your tribe. Fill your mind and your space with those voices, that energy – because at the end of the day, if you’re truly happy doing what you do and many moments of your life hold that joy, everything else, simply doesn’t matter.

Go be you. Go be happy. You don't need mine or anyone else's permission.

Ginni xo

This Monday Mocha Episode is a special tribute. Why I started this particular podcast on top of the usual Wednesday episodes of The Ginni Show is that I wanted to help you start your Monday’s with that extra spring in your step that may or may not have a helping hand from a caffeinated beverage of some sort. This episode is a special tribute to Persis Shanker – one of the hosts of Tomboy Tirade – one of Asia’s biggest girl podcasts. I’m joined by Persis herself and her co hosts Joanna, Raven and Siti. Persis sadly passed away earlier this year and I wanted to hold off on this episode and release it at the right time. The first interview I did with Persis was when I was staying at a friend’s place in Brooklyn. Funnily enough, that place is now my home in New York so it’s only fitting that I release this podcast now. Here’s a special Monday Mocha tribute to Persis Shanker of Tomboy Tirade.

It's December! Can you believe we are finally at the last month of 2017? I say finally because around this time of year, we tend to reflect on everything we have achieved and everything we haven't. Pair that reflection up with the holiday cheer, wrapping up things before the parties and festivities and some of us have to also cram in the shopping, it can feel like a lot of weighing in on you this time of year.

The day I learnt that Butterflies didn't have the ability to eat me was one of the most liberating days of my life. I was 12 and I watched a Cethosia butterfly fly away. Celebrate the wins, people. No matter how big of small they are.I've heard many spiritual teachers say that in life, humans tend to look at things in two ways; out of love or out of fear. When we opt for the latter, we go down a spiral of anxiety and darkness and it's generally a projection of things that don't exist in the present. We spend all this time and energy worry about things that never really happen. That's just how powerful and crippling fear is. It's design to keep us safe and somewhat restricted. Fear does serve a purpose though. Fear teaches us that boundaries are needed to be put in place until we wish to explore what's beyond. I feared butterflies for most of my childhood, and this episode will tell you exactly why. This is one of those fears that when you are brave enough to face it, you can find that what's beyond that fear is something pretty special, innocent and freeing. Whatever your fears may be, if they cripple you and block you from beauty, I hope this episode brings you joy and learning that there is so much freedom beyond fear!Love @theginnishow xDo you approve The Ginni Show? Where's your safe place? Is it a physical place you can go to and know that you feel completely ok to be yourself? Or is a space you go to when you meditate or a feeling that takes you there. For me, the feeling and the comfort that comes when I am in New York makes it my place. It's one of the reasons why I love New York City, and its from this love that lead me to meeting our next guest. Eljay Aguillo was in a long distance relationship with a lady from Chicago who sent him a Joss Stone album request he listen to a song called, "I fell in love with a boy." After realising that it was her way of telling him that she had fallen in love with someone else, heartbroken, Eljay moved to New York City in hope of one day running into his ex girlfriend in the city she loved so dearly. Three years later, amidst the sadness of his break-up, Eljay finally healed enough to gain the courage to listen to the entire Joss Stone album. As a reward to himself, he went to a party with his friends, leaving his credit card at the bar to shout everyone drinks to celebrate this long awaited milestone. In a twist of fate, that night, Eljay's credit card got mixed up with someone else's at the party and this lead him to meet the inspiration behind his amazing photographic turned published book: Why I Love New York City - his wife Maria. Eljay has captured and heard nearly 700 stories of love. One of my favourite Monday Mocha podcasts so far. "There's always a romance to being or doing something for yourself that you've always wanted to do in your life. If you do that, you should look at it always as a positive. Three more Mocha's to go folks. I know I say this about all of the guests, but what I love most about the first Monday Mocha series is the diversity of guests. This Monday Mocha is a story of quite a powerful manifestation. Meet Chris Frederick, a boy from Ohio, middle America. Growing up with the person who left the biggest heart print on him; his mother, he came out to her when he was 17, just a few months before they were set to head out on a trip to New York. The special moment that was awaiting them both turned out to actually be a moment that would not only shape Chris Frederick's history.....but the actual history of New York City Pride. Chris experienced his first pride, in New York, alongside his beloved mother. He was immersed in the colour, community and celebration of what it is to be you. Little did this boy from Ohio know that a decade later, he would be the Managing Director of New York City Pride. I love this story and I hope it gives your Monday just what it needs. I know it feels like a long time between Mocha's. Now that Wednesday's aren't returning until July, our catch up time is down to once a week. It sucks but given the fact that I ask you all to invest in yourselves and listen to your inner child, play time and balance is a part of that so I must practice what I preach. At least that means we get Monday's together right? Now, before you freak out when you listen to this podcast and say, "I've heard this voice before." Other than my dulcet tones, my guest for this week, Australia's Queen of Podcasts herself - Monique Bowley, frequents the airwaves, currently on the Mamamia Podcast Network. Her work is award winning and her witty, quick whips and natural flair for conversation is apparent. What I loved about this particular podcast is that I got to see a deeper side of Monique, even when she told me she "Mutes it when the plop happens." What I loved learning about her was that she is engineered from a place of gratitude; which comes doing what she does....and having a pair legs. Much wisdom, laughter and Monday Motivation in this one, my friends. "I go to mass every Sunday. There is no where in life anymore that tells you not to be a dickhead, as an adult. The one hour on Sunday morning, tells me to be a better person." Just when you thought The Ginni Show was over for another season, I surprise you with yet another Monday Mocha. YAY! Well technically, the Wednesday part of the show will return in July 2017, but we still have quite a few Monday Mocha's up our sleeves. So in episode two, I took a trip to Huffington Post Headquarters where I caught up with Executive Editor Noah Michelson. Taking yet another trip back, I caught up with Senior Editor Curtis Wong. What I love about Curtis is he is so wonderfully genuine in how he answers his questions. I love chatting with him because I learn so much and look at life in a different way. The man has also met Madonna. Just saying. "With as many friendships as you leave behind, you gain new ones." So, it's the last Wednesday episode of Season 2. You'll still hear my dulcet tones on Monday Mocha for the next few weeks but our special time together on Wednesday will be back in July. I love sharing my Wednesdays with you. It's a day I look forward to most and I love that people from all over the world; from places that I've only ever dreamed of listen to The Ginni Show. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart. This episode takes a little transactional turn in the sense that we look at ourselves and how we interpret love and how we use that to essentially "trade," or interact with out acts of humanity. What's really in our emotional bank accounts? Why do we always deposit and withdraw such emotions to "trade," with? I hope this episode serves you in learning a little more about yourself, what emotions we tend to turn to when we feel an uncomfortable situation and how we can filter out what's good for us to what just is. Wednesdays will be back in July my friends, but until then, enjoy the Monday Mocha episodes. Please be safe and happy :) Love @theginnishow x Do you approve The Ginni Show? This Monday Mocha is a little closer to home. Literally. When I was in my early to late teens and growing in self awareness and learning about myself, it wasn't just Queer As Folk that shone some light on the parts of me that I darkened. I used to hide underneath the covers reading LGBT magazines and newspapers. LOTL was one of those publications - headed up by Silke Bader - ranked the eight most powerful lesbian in the world by CLEO. A powerhouse publisher, event planner and equality advocate here in Australia, it's an honour to have a mocha with yet another person who's indirectly had some influence in shaping who I was today. "When friendships are no longer give and take, when it's heading only in one direction, you realise who you can turn to for support, and who you can give support to." Words are such powerful tools. We use them everyday. In speech. In text. In thought. In almost every human interaction. Yet sometimes we forget just how much we take words for granted and how impactful they can be on others and ultimately shape a belief they have. This podcast is dedicated to everyone who's ever felt a little different. Anyone who's searched for that understanding and may not have received the kind of words they hoped for. On the eight Monday Mocha show, we still continue in Hollywood and chat to someone who has left a heart print on my journey. I first caught a glimpse of him on Showtime's Hit Series, "Queer As Folk," where he played the character Emmett Honeycutt. From there, Peter Paige has gone on to be one of the creators and writer's for the ABC's hit show, The Fosters. One of the many many things I love about Peter is the fact that he always makes time to connect with you. A lot of people reach out to him about the art he creates and how it has impacted their lives - I was one of those people and am better for it. A very special Monday Mocha. "Connection is more important than ever at this moment in time. Despite the fact that we are tapped into the internet, in some ways we are less connected. It's important for me to share a meaningful moment with someone." On the seventh Monday Mocha show, we head to the Hollywood Hills and chat to long time actress, Liz Vassey. I first watched her as "Lou," on Brotherly Love and since then she has graced our scenes playing many a character in Nikki & Nora, CSI and Two and A Half Men to name a Few. "Sometimes the best relationships aren't the longest. You come into this world, find your tribe and sometimes you learn what you're supposed to learn. As kids who enter the world and go through brand new experiences, the memories we form pave the way to our beliefs about ourselves. Generally speaking, a lot of these beliefs evolve around how much we want to be liked - how much we want that fellow human approval. After all, it's apart of humanity to want to relate and connect with our own species. The issues that arise from this need for approval is that we compromise so much of our own inner voice and needs and fill our minds and energies with resentment. Oprah calls it the "disease to please," and when we place ourselves in a position to seek approval or behave in a way just so others will like us, over time resentment builds. This episode goes through the patterns around approval and where these usually form - home and school; the things we do so that our parents and the cool kids at school like us. It's the sixth Monday Mocha podcast show. I have loved the diversity in guests that I've had the honour of spending time with. One of the reasons why I wanted to start this particular series is to help change the attitude and resistance we have towards Monday which is essentially the mentality we go into the week with. By chatting to an inspiring individual, taking time out to have a coffee or a break - it's a good way to ease into your week. "I think friendships can be cyclical based off where you are in your life. True friends understand how I care about them. You may not see them for weeks at a time, but you pick up where you left off. " This week, we take a trip into the finance world and take a trip down Wall Street to have a chat with banker, LGBT equality entrepreneur and founder of Out Leadership - Todd Sears. Find out how he thinks Australian coffee compares to American coffee and how many times he hits the snooze button before he wakes up. It's time for the next instalment in the Monday Mocha Series. One of the reasons why I wanted to start this particular series is to help change the attitude and resistance we have towards Monday which is essentially the mentality we go into the week with. By chatting to an inspiring individual, taking time out to have a coffee or a break - it's a good way to ease into your week. "Every single person that I've ever worked with that I see the light go on and they're more themselves, that leaves a heart print on me each time." Here's our first Aussie who's actually in Australia. In Episode 12 of The Ginni Show Wednesday podcast, I talked about meeting my first spiritual teacher in a body at a Night Club. Now when I say "in a body," I'm not saying that other teachers are body-less per say, but I mean that they are in human form. Being raised a Catholic, technically, Jesus was my first spiritual teacher but he wasn't in a body - I never actually met him in person. This episode we meet my first spiritual teacher - Parvati Sundari. When I met her on the dance floor at The Wharf Hotel in Melbourne, there was an instant connection. It felt like I had known her before. Now, not only is she still a teacher to me, she's also a wonderful confidant, healer, soul coach and mate. I hope the joy in this interview spreads to your day and your week! Are you happy? What are some of the things about you that make you happy? And in your life that make you happy? Sometimes happiness is a projection of what others predicate for us. These others can be anyone from our parents, grandparents, teachers, cousins to our school peers. We find ourselves trying to squeeze into a mould that simply isn't made for us. This applies to almost everything about us. The way we think, the way we behave, what we do and don't do. It's interesting how much this projection is a loud tape recorder in our heads. This episode, we delve into why sometimes what we feel makes us happiness, is the very thing that leads us to unhappiness. We're a month into The Monday Mocha Series. I'm loving the responses we're getting to these so far. Some of you have expressed just how much you're learning from these coffee dates and it brings me much joy! For those of you who have popped by for the first time to have a cuppa with me - this podcast is a chance to have a break from my Aunties, Ammi and 170 cousins featured on my Wednesday podcast and hear the journey of an inspiring individual from some part of the world. As you all know, I love talking. A lot. The reason for starting the Monday Mocha podcast is that through the teachings and lessons I have the privilege of sharing with you every week that have come from my teachers; I am still a student in pursuit of more knowledge, self awareness and tools to cultivate more of the good things we need more of in this world. Each Monday, I'll be having a chat to a guest who has much wisdom to share that we can all benefit from - to light up our day that little bit brighter. It will literally feel like you're sitting right there, having coffee with us. So c'mon, let's have a Mocha! "I love stories. Something that I absolutely crave is listening to people's stories; what excites them, what's their passion and how they've dealt with challenges." The first few Monday Mocha's of this series were all with New Yorkers. So I guess it's about time I had a coffee with a fellow Aussie. Who happens to live in New York. Nicholas Stone is the CEO and Founder of Bluestone Lane; a Melbourne inspired coffee shop raising the standard of coffee palates amongst New Yorkers with the true coffee snobbery we seem to have down under. With already a handful of cafes in New York and soon to be three in Philly, the Bluestone love is set to spread across the country. How are you? No really, how are you? I think sometimes, that phrase is used quite flippantly as a way to start a conversation rather than make it the focus of the conversation. If we were actually using the phrase, "How are you," and paying extra attention to the response, then the need for a day where you ask people how they are and make it your focus wouldn't be necessary. If we're aware of ourselves more and how we feel, we're aware of others and how they feel. It becomes difficult to navigate through our emotions, our day to day thoughts, our pre existing thought patterns if we lack that very thing; self awareness. It's the key to many openings - your strengths, your weaknesses, what you need to work on, what makes you happen, what you need. If you're self aware, you are well on your way to authentic power. In a lot of the podcasts I do, I encourage everyone to take time out of their day for themselves. To spend with themselves. I truly want everyone to get to know the essence of how they are, and that takes time and focus. This can be done through meditation, or if that's not your flavour, sports, reading or just sitting in silence for 30 minutes. It's perhaps the most important tool you will have. This episode is a little different to others. I've taken a more "serious," tone to it because I'm serious about you living the happiest life possible for you. There’s really nothing like a good vent. It’s the start of a process to a solution. But many of us start that process and just stay at the step of venting which can leads to loads of negativity and frustration – especially when others don’t agree with our point of view. In the episode, we explore the themes of the fine line between venting and b*&ching and the ways we can express how we feel in a way that seeks a solution rather than approval. Kicking of the first of The Monday Mocha Series today. It's a chance to have a break from my Aunties, Ammi and 170 cousins and hear the journey of an inspiring individual from some part of the world. 10 No Speak English When door to door salesmen or Jehovas Witness’ would knock on our day, instead of engaging in the conversation and assertively saying, “No, Thank you,” in speaking her truth, Ammi used to just claim that she, “No Speak English.” I’ve found that daily, there are situations that can bring us discomfort and that yucky feeling of unease when the universe presents us with a situation or circumstance to actually speak up in line with our “truth.” Now, people get a little funny and think I’m saying “Thou shalt speak your truth.” I’m not that fancy. When I say, “speak your truth,” I’m referring to speaking up about how you really feel. Assertively, empoweringly and honestly in the context of a particular situation. Last season, you wantedI additional tips would be beneficial to your journey so I’ve included in a few in this episode too. 9 Building Walls Over the past three weeks, the world has been either in a state of shock, fear…some are seeking to be positive and others are just in a total state of W.T.F. I didn’t want to make this podcast about politics, but instead I wanted to use what was going on around us to take time to see what was reflected within us. With the constant fear inspiring rhetoric we hear in our news feeds and from our leaders - of course, it's natural to be freaking the F out. Sometimes the only way to combat such negativity and rhetoric is to start with ourselves. See where it is within us the places we started to build walls around our hearts and our lives. Where did we become intolerant of others out of anger or hate? Out of a difference of opinion or political belief? At what time did we separate ourselves from everyone else? Where did we fail to be the best person we could be and use love, peace and thoughtfulness as the foundation. If each and every one of us begin to cultivate that kind of unity within – what is without will begin to reflect that. It’s the series finale of The Ginni Show and I wanted to say thank you to all of you for tuning in, for inviting me into your spaces, your homes, your cars and your bathrooms - Hola to the toilet phone users out there. Laugh and love that little bit harder and take extra care of yourselves and one another these holidays. I’ll see you in January 2017. We've seen dynamic duos, fantastic friendship groups and the people you call "ride or die." Sometimes, these people come in and out of your life, some of them stay for a season but it's evident that each relationship we have in our life is for a reason. Over the years, I've been blessed to share many close friendships - not all of them are still around, some of them have faded. As these relationships were changing, I grew sad, unhappy and was clinging on for dear life that they wouldn't change. But they unfortunately did. This episode explores the friendships that you outgrow, the friendships that evolve as you evolve and how you form your ride or die squad. It’s an election special….and I’m sure some of us are a little worried? How many times a day do you worry? What do you actually worry about? Do these worries always come true? Sometimes we tend to focus our energy, our thoughts and our times on things and circumstances that don’t actually exist or happen. When we worry, we are taken away from the present and the gift that it is. I wrote this episode on my birthday – a time where most of us reflect on our lives, how far we’ve come and what we’ve achieved. This episode is all about how when we open up the present, the right here and now, we feel thankful, and have more to be thankful for. A massage is a very personal experience. We allow someone into our personal space and are at full trust that they will honour and protect our personal space just as much as we do. Although, from time to time, and hopefully not too often, we encounter those who either do not have an idea of what personal space is and they feel they have a right to invade or intrude because they have merely received an invitation to enter. What I found chatting to my guests this week and with people in general, when an invasion of personal space has occurred, we fear speaking up. Again, guilt is a common motivator but it's also the projection that those who are being invaded feel that the issue is with them. This leads them not to speak up. Join Ilea Matthews, Rachel Fennimore, Jennifer Ariemma and returning favourite Britni Lesha, Tab Wolod and Michele Musso as we all tell you about our massages to remember. Everyone has a a creative streak in them. Some of us either lose it along the way because we become distracted with our 9 to 5 job or career path and some of us forget about that part of us, altogether. When we are in touch with our inner child, our creativity soars. Creativity doesn't necessarily mean artistic - you can be a creative problem solver, a creative organiser...you just have to find where it lies within you! Episode #4 - Living La Vida Creative talks about the fear we have around our creative self and some tools to take that much dreaded leap. The word “No,” is the single most powerful word in the English language. It has just as much power when it’s used and when it’s isn’t used. A lot of us have trouble saying “No,” when it comes to doing things for people we can’t do or particularly don’t want to do. Sometimes we choose to allow things to happen without saying No, and over time we form of the habit of saying No to No.Episode #3 – Saying No to No is the New Black; demonstrates the effects of when you say No to No instead of Yes to No. Know what I mean?
