On today's program

Our thoughts go out to the good people of Baltimore

We discuss the alleged Shohei Ohtani scandal and the affect it could have on baseball around the world. Of course we talked about Pete Rose.

Jordan Montgomery signs with the Arizona D-Backs. The Toronto Blue Jays dodged a bullet.

Then we get into our divisional discussions

The National League:

NL West
Could all 3 NL Wild Card spots come out of the west? Could the Los Angeles Dodgers implode? We know what the Rockies are. Could Bob Melvin be the difference maker for the San Francisco Giants? Did the acquisition of Dylan Cease put San Diego Padres back in a playoff spot conversation?

NL Central
Could the Cincinnati Reds surprise some people in 2024? Have we overlooked the Brewers? What will Craig Counsell's impact be on the Chicago Cubs? Have the St.Louis Cardinals taken a step back or will they improve upon their 2023 with their veteran pitching pick-ups?

NL East
Will it be the Atlanta Braves then the Philadelphia Phillies a top of the division or will it be Phillies then Braves? Who exactly are the New York Mets? We will have to get some insight into the Marlins with Lou Schiff

American League

AL West
After losing Eugeno Suarez and Teoscar Hernandez, who are the Seattle Mariners? Will the Youth of the Texas Rangers get them back into the deep part of the playoffs in 2024? Don't forget Scherzer and Degrom coming back. We will need to see what the Anaheim Angels can do. The Houston Astros are still in the conversation. Oakland well.... you know

AL Central
The 3 of us are taking the Detroit Tigers. With the caveat , that the Central is wide open. Minnesota may figure it out and Cleveland is still in the hunt. Definitely no Wild Cards here.

AL East
Brent says the Jays will finish in fourth place. Dave and Brett disagree. Arguments for both scenarios are pretty good. The Yankees have holes, the Boston Red Sox could be a surprise but the expectations are low. Watch out for the Tampa Bay Rays however it's the Baltimore Orioles division to lose.

Blue Jays expectations

What happens if they don't make the playoffs?

Who stays or goes, Bo or Vladdy?

Could the Jays be sellers at the deadline?

1 team that could surprise us all.

Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame-Presser Recap. Yes . Cardy screwed up. Sorry to Howard Birnie and Rod Heisler for screwing up their names.

Boras corp - Free agent updates.. Nothings changed. Ryu took a deal in Korea.

Cardy drops a Crop Drying reference.

Bob McCown on Chapman

Oakland and Vegas- Sheesh what a mess

29 is not divisible by 2. We discuss some temp homes from the A's.

Relocate Oakland somewhere else and get Vegas an expansion team?

No Montreal expansion. Good luck.

On today's program-

Brent , Brett and Dave discuss the Trade Deadline that will be taking place August 1st of this year. The guys bring 3 trades that they believe could help and not hinder the Toronto Blue Jays as the Jays attempt to march into another playoff run this season.

The guys discuss the barriers that could keep the Blue Jays from making a big splash. We also take a look around the American League East and discuss which teams may go all in and the one team that we discuss really may surprise you.

Who are the sellers? Well we know who a few of them are. The question we discussed was who would those teams be moving? This could be a very busy deadline or a very slow one. It will not be in the middle.

You can follow The Cardy Show on Twitter @CardyBrent or on Instagram @TheCardyShowPodcast. We will be slowing down a bit in August to rev it back up to weekly episodes in September as we welcome Brett Gard back into the fold . Brett was a key contributor back when the podcast started and he will be a key assist in helping Dave and I moving the podcast forward.

Last Week In Baseball (0:11-3:33)

I go through the state of the Major League Baseball standings. We have some surprises to discuss. A lot of very close races. The American League East, West and Wild Card spots are very much still up for grabs. The Braves are building a lead for now in the National league East. While Joey Votto and the Cincinnati Reds are firmly entrenched in the Wild Card Race.

I also discuss the proposed salary floor and how it could affect the future of some teams.

Joe Tilley (3:34- 36:44)

Former legendary Sports Anchor for CTV and current host of the Joe Tilley Sports Podcast joined me to talk about a whole plethora of things. We talked about the possibility of CFTO/CTV in the 80's running their own highlight show to compete with Sportsline and others. We talked about what it's like that the late Toronto Sports are all still competing for viewership.

We talked about how Joe went from the Tilley and Billy show to going on his own. Joe talked to us about how he got Jerry Howarth on a Zoom call. We make comparison for the early 1980's Blue Jays to the 2021 club of today. Joe talks about his favourite episodes on how he handles the nervousness of high profile guests.
